Reviews for The Angel Posting House & Livery

Review 1:the noise from the high street if windows kept open.

Review 2:Location, comfort (luxury suit and junior suite), historical background / character of the place, efficiency of staff, attached restaurant

Review 3:Extraneous noise of drilling early Saturday evening and again 11am Sunday as we were checking out. On the other hand it's an old building and maybe an urgent repair was needed. Black staining below water line in the loo, was a little disconcerting, would bleach have made a difference? On the other hand... as above. Lastly, just being a tiny bit picky... it would really tick all boxes if housekeeping could a) sew missing rings on the substantial quality curtain tie-backs b) make sure that the TV remote is not hidden ie under the bed. :-)

Review 4:Nicely furnished large room in keeping with hotels traditional style. The large bed had nice linen, decent pillows and was very comfortable. Good sized bathroom , very clean, slightly tired, but of good quality, (bath and shower), warm, and most importantly plenty of shelf and counter space for "stuff". Nice toiletries provided. Good staff! Both managers Jan and Tim gave excellent service, and counter staff in Bill's were happy to supply good coffee to take-away to our room in the morning.

Review 5:Pretty much in the centre of town. Friendly, helpful staff. Exposed beams and nooks. The interesting journey to and from my room! Very large room with an antique look and feel, especially liked the brass fittings in the bathroom.

Review 6:We booked this hotel after doing some Christmas shopping and we were left very dissapointed. There was a generator right outside the front door that was left on all night so we didn't really sleep! Also due to the building being old our bed side table was not level so when I put a glass of water on it it fell off onto my iPhone that was charging on the floor! We told staff about this and they said it was "unlucky"!!

Review 7:Good location

Review 8:Lovely old hotel perfectly located right in the centre of Guildford. Friendly staff, super cosy hall, beautifully decorated for Christmas. I'll definitely come back!

Review 9:Not spotlessly clean, decor a bit tired in places, lightbulb not working, not enough tea or milk in room, breakfast not included so not the best value place I've stayed.

Review 10:Very large room, comfy bed and large bath, loads of hot water, central location, character, very warm staff, quirky and not faceless like the chain hotels

Review 11:Parking is difficult. Perhaps more can be explained on site e.g. When road is open, access to Park & Ride if car parks are full.

Review 12:Comfortable, quiet room and an hotel with a bit of history.

Review 13:Freezing cold room on arrival, torn upholstery on bedroom furniture, dirty carpet, dirty shower, broken fitting in bathroom, staff forgot to book restaurant, Bill's restaurant took over an hour to serve porridge and one scrambled egg for breakfast. A total disaster.

Review 14:Location

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:The location and the fact Bills is on the premises. The hotel is a traditionally furnished and it felt that you were staying in a good hotel. Rooms were a good size (usually in an older building they can be small). We also didn't get any noise, bearing in mind it's central lovab

Review 17:The word when I walked into my room was wow. Gorgeous room. The staff were extremely helpful and nice. Had a small issue with the room and the staff responded immediately to fix it. Immaculately clean room.

Review 18:Room at the front incredibly noises. Asked to be moved. Told that there is a lot of complaints about the noise in that room but would have to pay more to move.

Review 19:The room/suite was appalling. Peeling wallpaper, cracked bathroom floor tiles, tired and dirty looking sofa. Unexpected and very disappointing.

Review 20:Location, hotel.

Review 21:On morning we left Bill's chef was late in - 8 pm which left limited time to eat as had appointment at the University minor issue was needing to ask for more milk capsules for room - this happens everywhere...

Review 22:ideal location for both university visit and exploring the lovely town. quirky and comfortable - I hadn't registered that there were no breakfast facilities before booking but this managed by having Bill's restaurant attached.

Review 23:No bar, hotel dining room not open on the Monday evening we were there, no breakfast - but the linked "Bills" restaurant next door serves these functions pretty well.

Review 24:Nice ambience, comfortable and reasonably spacious room, excellent central location. Character old building.

Review 25:No parking facilities - had to park in a public car park. No TV in bedroom - in the sitting room area of the suite.

Review 26:City centre, 5-10 minutes walk from train station. Super-sized king bed. Powerful shower; hot water Good bistro (Bill's) within, but not part of hotel, for breakfast and dinner, with excellent selection of background music.

Review 27:Could have done without the fairly constant noise of the pneumatic drill from the construction work in the building immediately next to my room. Surprised also that the bathroom did not have a 'stand up' shower over the bath and did not have a shower curtain or screen to stop the water from flooding the bathroom floor. Overall, I didn't think this hotel offered good value for money.

Review 28:The noise in the middle of the night from deliveries to Marks and Spencers, along with garbage collection lorries early morning would put me off staying here again unless I had a room away from those two street noises. I would like to understand why this can't be prevented

Review 29:Worn out furnishings, not comfortable bed or sofa, bathroom supplies not replaced, tea bags only sometimes replaced, lack of view and grey net curtains, high cost, very hot, heavy duvet

Review 30:Location, staff, character, size of room/suite and size of bathroom, hot water plentiful, nice tea bags delivered when I ran out but had to phone and request them

Review 31:Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice room, very clean. Room was at the back of the hotel so quietish but I imagine rooms at front might be quite noisy because the hotel is on the high street

Review 32:A little faded, rather impersonal. Restaurant which has outside franchise (Bill's) was too full on Sunday morning to offer breakfast in a reasonable time, people were queuing from the street and hotel guests had no precedence.

Review 33:Setting, olde worlde, comfort.

Review 34:Absolutely delighted with our stay at this hotel. It's got this very authentic English feeling, with very spacious rooms and bathrooms, very friendly and helpful staff, and superb restaurant, Bill's. It's very central and I will stay there again when I'll be back in Guildford.

Review 35:The rooms were amazing with lovely touches such as toiletries, fluffy dressing gowns and speciality teas. TYhe staff were friendly and not invasive. The location was fantastic. Right in the heart of Guildford.

Review 36:Free internet was not working. too noise at night ( from 11 till 2 o,clock at night there was unloading packages with beer from big track to the restaurant ) Telephone was not working in the room, the water was running very slowly in the bathroom

Review 37:Location,the old building

Review 38:The design of the shower which do not have door or curtain. The water come our if the floor and all get wet.

Review 39:The location is excellent. Right at the town centre and very convenient. The wifi also very good.

Review 40:No breakfast. Noisy.. No double glazing and facing main Street. Room on 2/3rd floor no lifts.

Review 41:It is not a hotel in my opinion. Boarding house more appropriate. It has no bar and no breakfast facility(next door restaurant but you need to pay separately). Quaint? Shabby more like.

Review 42:- Bed dipped in the middle a bit - Parking can be difficult there.

Review 43:- Great central location - Very good looking hotel - Staff were friendly - Good breakfast in Bills (Restaurant attached to hotel)

Review 44:none what so ever

Review 45:couldn't fault our stay in any way, the staff were very helpful, the room was superb, stayed at the angel 3 times now and it gets better with each stay, would definitely recommend to friends and family

Review 46:No lift but we managed.

Review 47:The hotel is charming! Unusual historic ambience and so quaint. Great location on High Street. Fabulous bathroom and the most comfortable beds. I would return to the UK just to come back to this hotel. The young lady at the front desk couldn't do enough for us (we were in a wedding party)

Review 48:The staff here are always so friendly, and were extremely helpful in helping me track down a lost mobile phone. I have cause to stay here every couple of months and certainly will again.

Review 49:No bad experience. I would have liked to have the option of a breakfast being offered. I did not see such an offer . . .

Review 50:Location was very central, and the little passage ways, with restaurants, and pubs all in a short walk. Particularly, Sir and Madam, a Thai restaurant down Jeffries Passage was a very real experience of good Thai food, and service.

Review 51:WiFi signal very poor to non-existent.

Review 52:Period property with lots of charm located in the centre of Guildford's high street. Comfortable, well appointed and spacious rooms

Review 53:Very very noisy location, woken in night by delivery lorries directly outside Hotel & according to the staff, this is every night ! Bathroom fittings very substandard, poor shower, lighting faulty & flickering. Wifi faulty & not working !

Review 54:Lovely historic building,

Review 55:Booked this room for my son who reports that the room was wonderful: great bed, clean bathroom, extremely friendly and helpful staff at reception, and a terrific atmosphere overall.

Review 56:Parking was fiddly as the road is pedestrianised during the day. Our room had an open downward staircase which wasn't ideal with a toddler!! Lots of loud noise from the alley which ran just beneath the room.

Review 57:Bed was great, rooms were comfy and a good temp. Shower was great as was bathroom. Great location, friendly helpful staff.

Review 58:There was nowhere to hang the shower head in the barhroom so you literally have to hold it over your own head! Very weird. No proper bar in hotel either, just a restaurant.

Review 59:Location smack bang in the centre of town close to railway station too.

Review 60:Noisy guests above and to side of room. But hotel is old so creaky floorboards everywhere. Could hear two televisions at once! One above one next door, different channels!

Review 61:Excellent location and lovely hotel. Convenient for bars restaurants shops etc Reception staff very helpful on day of arrival.

Review 62:Room was clean but old breakages and damage were evident with poor fixes in place. Such as shower door had come off the hinges, the hinges were still there but they'd just tied a shower curtain up in place. The curtain had clearly been there a long time as was damaged too.

Review 63:A lovely hotel but looking very tired and in need of a refurb.

Review 64:The curtains weren't great so the room was not very dark, which might bother some. The showerhead in our bathroom needed de-scaling (the staff were good when we pointed this out on check-out).

Review 65:Character-full room and building Nice finish in the bathroom Centre of town, very near restaurants and shops Staff helpful and friendly

Review 66:None,.

Review 67:This Historic Hotel The Angel is full of charm,I had a lovely bedroom,Bills eatery has some lovely food, right in the centre of town, near all transports, will stay again,..

Review 68:Absence of in-house catering Extensive corridors & staircases & lift out of order No shaving light in bathroom or fan or openable window. Settee about to expire!

Review 69:Spacious bedroom & bathroom Suitcases carried to our room on arrival (fortunately)

Review 70:NOISY - PEOPLE OUTSIDE "BILLS" UNTIL 11.30 DRINKING AND SMOKING UNDER OUR WINDOW. TOO HOT- SOME WINDOWS COULD NOT BE OPENED STAFF NOT EXACTLY FRIENDLY OR HELPFUL

Review 71:CENTRAL FOR SHOPPING IDEAL IF YOU LIKE DINING AT "BILLS" - NOT TOLD IN ADVANCE THE HOTEL RESTURANT WAS SHUT.

Review 72:couldnt sleep a wink due to deliveries from lorries all through the night on cobbled high street with four floor to ceiling single glazed windows.

Review 73:Lovely old building, beautiful room four poster bed

Review 74:lift not in use and hotel cannot say when it will be in operation. An old English inn with no bar! Hotel restaurant does not provide breakfast nor Sunday evening meals, relying on Bill's integral restaurant

Review 75:Very large and comfortable bedroom

Review 76:We had a large suite - 221 - with city rooftop views, a four poster bed, and plenty of room. Staff were excellent. The dining facilities were of a very high standard

Review 77:Price too high as no breakfast provided and also the hotel has been ruined by trying to be too clever and creating 'shabby chic'. Painting over panelling and ruining an historic place in the manner in which it's been done is awful. Please put it back and I'm sure it will rise in value.

Review 78:The Staff, always helpful and kind

Review 79:We had hoped for the price we paid that breakfast would've been included . There was nothing available not even continental for the price of £125 for an overnight stay.

Review 80:The water pressure was lacking. That's literally my only complaint.

Review 81:Gorgeous historic building, fantastic location in central Guildford, very pleasant staff.

Review 82:Furnishings were a little shabby. Bathroom mirrors useless after shower used, misted for ages. Little steps up to bathroom. Electric point not convienient to use hairdryer by mirror but then found an extension lead with the kettle which I could have unplugged. The real downside of our stay was not the noise from drunks outside going home at 3am, the street cleaning vehicle or the cars which we were prepared for- but the number of pigeons continually sitting on the windowsills. The noise was really disturbing and we had to close the window to stop them putting their heads in! Guikdford council needs to act now to eradicate this nuisance.

Review 83:Stayed in 'luxury' suite so lots of space. Quaint hotel with beams and history right on the cobbled High Street.

Review 84:It would be helpful for the info you receive on booking to advise the hotel is not accessible by car between 11am and 4pm and to direct you straight to a public car park. Also, as an old building, it would benefit from having scented candles or sticks in the hallways to freshen the air.

Review 85:I liked being in the heart of the shops and restaurants as well as not far from the station.

Review 86:Our room didn't have aircon on a hot night which made the stay a little uncomfortable.

Review 87:Rooms were nice, location was great. Staff we're amazing.

Review 88:Decor of room bit scruffy, dated. No parking. Room not easily accessible - right at back, lift not working.

Review 89:German man on reception incredibly helpful and friendly. Location. Characterful building, good atmosphere.

Review 90:no door on shower, so there was a lot of water on the floor, also the large tap arrangement on the bath made it slightly awkward to get in and out. was expecting bath robe and slippers and also if a room has a bath a sml bottle a bubble bath would have been nice.

Review 91:the shower is a good size, to have a separate bath was good, nice to have complementary toiletries, very clean.relaxing.

Review 92:Very bright, curtains not closing fully and very noisy late at night and from 7 in morning with cafe outside.

Review 93:Single travellers upgraded to Bridal Suite, very nice and spacious.

Review 94:Can be noisy in morning as city wakes up. Staff could be more attentive at times, e.g. replenishing water in rooms.

Review 95:The suites are large and each one unique. Very central for Guildford town centre.

Review 96:breakfast doesnt start until 7:30 which is bad for business use. Hair dryer in room was broken and my room was next to an alleyway which drunk people made a lot of noise down all night long. Wifi signal was very poor.

Review 97:decor was lovely

Review 98:Charming friendly staff. Sadly this was literally an overnight stay for us, arriving at 10 30pm and leaving before breakfast so comments limited to what we actually experienced!Son's

Review 99:shower had low pressure. some noise from the court yard in the evening as bottles put out, but then quiet through the night and in the morning.

Review 100:central location. interesting rooms.

Review 101:The location of the room. The traffic / late night revellers' noise was dreadful unfortunately, spoiled the stay for us. We didn't get much sleep at all !

Review 102:Hotel in great location, excellent service, very clean

Review 103:We were told it had an on site car park but it did not. The rooms were extremely hot and there was no fans. It was incredibly noisy until very late.

Review 104:The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean.

Review 105:I was looking for a relaxing place to stay in a town with walking access to the countryside. Guildford High Street is perfect -- easy walks in gorgeous countryside, quick train from London, wonderful, comfy, charming hotel. Great bath!

Review 106:I mistakenly thought breakfast was included in the booking. This was not clear from website. The Bill's restaurant was full so we had to leave without breakfast which spoilt the sunday morning.

Review 107:The suite was spacious and full of character

Review 108:Stayed in a Junior Suite, lovely room, well presented, well stocked with tea/ coffee choices, water, lovely toiletries. Wonderful location. Bills breakfast was lovely as were the staff. The hotel is in a fabulous location and we parked right outside overnight (once the road was opened). Would definitely stay there again.

Review 109:The restaurant downstairs, Bills, is intrusive as the cooking food smells and the general noise permeate through the hotel. The lounge/waiting area is therefore too noisy.

Review 110:The bedrooms are gorgeous, the location fantastic in regard to shopping and wandering about Guildford.

Review 111:The bed mattress was tired and not very firm. I could not even get a beer there. I could not have breakfast in the hotel. The toilet was badly maintained. Did not flush easily and there was a leak.

Review 112:The mineral water in room . I did enjoy a good hot bath

Review 113:No parking! However, the staff were extremely helpful with helping me to find parking

Review 114:The room was beautiful, the service was fantastic & the location was ideal. Would 100% recommend & would definitely return!

Review 115:No lift for top floor Dirty walls with peeling paper Dirty carpets Dated bathroom Couldn't open windows due to pigeons - very stuffy

Review 116:Location Bill's restaurant Bed

Review 117:The flush on the loo didn't work very easily. The mattress - although we slept well - was a bit tired.

Review 118:Welcoming helpful staff. Attractive room with huge bathroom. Interwoven with a branch of "Bill's" which made hotel feel lively and it was easy to get good food.

Review 119:Parking in the multi-story was expensive for the brief time used. Luckily managed to park on high street over night. Bill's breakfast whilst very trendy, was lacking in substance and not good value - a one inch sausage is not a sausage!

Review 120:Lovely hotel full of character and great value.

Review 121:Maybe the worm water could suffer some adjustement as I ran immediately out of it while I was taking a bath.

Review 122:The hotel is located in the center of the town and it is absolutely beautiful. I had a junior suite and it was absolutely great.

Review 123:We had a suite and the sofa was very pokey. It was like something you would find in a retirement home

Review 124:Huge bed, The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the heart of Guildford.

Review 125:No parking, except overnight in High Street (free, but move on before 08.30hrs!). No breakfast included in price, no hotel breakfast provision. Worn carpets on stairs & corridors, torn net curtains in suite.

Review 126:Location, historic town and hotel building. Suite spacious, well decorated (suitably over-the-top with mirrors & guilt everywhere!) Relaxed feel, unpretentious.

Review 127:The en-suite facilities. The hot water takes an age to get through to the shower. A couple of lightbulb a needed replacing making it a bit dull in there. The flush mechanism on the toilet was difficult & practically broken.

Review 128:Great location, centrally placed. Great for shops. Although there's no breakfast facilities, Bill's, which is attached to the building, is a lovely place to eat.

Review 129:it would be great if you could offer breakfast as well

Review 130:the hotel is actually an old inn which was build during the XIV century and was used since then in different functions. The building is charming and I think that by the looks of it still has many original elements of the old structure. the furniture is chosen tastefully and the concept is to have a very nice blend between the old and functional new. The location is perfect close to restaurants and shops however I did not have any issues with street noise. The staff was very helpful and nice, I was ill and they made an appointment for me at a local practice. Many thanks for that!

Review 131:Receptionist was more interested in chatting to his girlfriend than checking us in, leaving us standing there for over 4 minutes before I had to interrupt him. Room was extremely noisy and did not get much sleep.

Review 132:Good location and room size was good with a good bathroom.

Review 133:We had pre-warned the hotel by telephone and by email (correspondence with charming girl called Karolina) that we were visiting for the purposes of a wedding. We therefore would appreciate being able to check in early (before the 2pm check-in time) as the wedding started at 1.30pm and we would not be returning to the hotel until the early hours of the morning. This facility was not made available to us and we had to leave for the wedding without being able to check-in. My husband changed in a toiled. We had a super wedding party and returned to the hotel at 1.30 am -ish. We went to sleep and thought nothing more of it until I was woken by a hammering on the door in the morning. The staff membered claimed they had no credit card details for us and didn't know who we were. He treated me as though were about to do a runner and waited outside our room until we could give him a credit card. Since my husband was in the bathroom, this was a good 15 minutes. Our stay was completely ruined by the staffs inability to communicate with one another. We would never visit this hotel again and would advise any potential visitors to reconsider their options.

Review 134:Great sized bedroom and bathroom.
