Reviews for Selkirk Arms Hotel

Review 1:Nothing bad- but a little more powerfull light in the Bathroom and few more Hooks. How about Horlicks in the room for us 'oldies'.

Review 2:All the staff; their warmth and helpfulnness. Nothing too much trouble. The food was excellent.

Review 3:The friendliness of the staff, especially going out of their way to give us requested room. The comfort and location of the room. The consistently high quality of the food.

Review 4:Lovely base for seeing Dumfries and Galloway. Fabulous food. We had eaten here in the past but not stayed so this year we decided to include a couple of days stay as part of our honeymoon tour of Scotland.

Review 5:The manager took me (and my luggage) to my room and welcomed me. There was a lovely welcome card and a little box of chocolates in the room. Service at the bar for a meal and drink was fast and cordial.

Review 6:this is the second year in a row we have stayed there. this year we had a 10 month new baby with us. the staff were excellent. the provided a cot in the room. As they knew that we had a baby they gave us a different room for our first night in case the noise of Rugby world cup in the bar downstairs woke the baby and then moved us the following day... which was very decent of them. The staff (and indeed the other guests) all made a great fuss of our little one and he had a brilliant holiday (he only cried when it was time to go home). Food was excellent, high chair provided. I was there to take part in the Dalbeattie hardrock challenge, so was most happy to use the secure bike storage. this hotel is in short distance to 5 of the 7Stanes mountain biking trail centres, so the secure storage is worth taking into account for fellow mountain bikers looking for accommodation.

Review 7:The hot water was too slow to fill a bath and was just a trickle from the shower. Serious plumbing upgrade required. We arrived at the front entrance and thought we'd made a mistake. However first apperences can be deceptive and we stopped an extra night.

Review 8:Very friendly staff and good food. Good location for exploring the area. Nice clean room.

Review 9:Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, calling my mobile to see if we had eaten as we were arriving close to the kitchen closing time and calling in the morning to check if we needed breakfast before the breakfast period ended. Bringing our dogs along was a very smooth process. The location is excellent within a very quaint small harbour town.

Review 10:Very small car park, shower over bath not a cubicle which is difficult for the less able. Quite limited areas where dog can go.

Review 11:Very friendly staff, good food, comfortable bed, clean, garden

Review 12:Food erratic: straightforward dishes very good, more ambitious ideas unpredictable!

Review 13:Nice spacious well equipped room, with thoughtful touches. Staff very attentive and helpful

Review 14:Breakfast service so so slow and quite different to evening service which is a shame. I think more mature people needed at breakfast and maybe 3 people instead of two so one is always in the restaurant as the two girls kept disappearing at the same time and by the time we got ketchup and sweetner our breakfast was cold :(

Review 15:Everything aside from breakfast service, will definitely be back. Breakfast was fab btw just the service lacking or speed of service

Review 16:The WiFi signal was very poor but that is typical of Scotland

Review 17:The food and service was very good hearty meals and friendly service through out the visit nothing was any trouble

Review 18:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service. We were going to a wedding and needed lunch in a hurry on a busy Saturday and they did their upmost to serve up quickly. Food was very good. Comfortable clean room.Comfortable, bright restaurant and bar.Pretty garden area.Well stocked tea tray and a personal welcome note and chocolates. What more could you want.

Review 19:We enjoyed the relaxing homely atmosphere. All staff were so friendly and approachable. We were pleasantly surprised to be given an upgrade on our arrival and our room/s were so comfortable and spacious. All meals were to a very high standard. The hotel is extremely well managed. All staff excel at making your stay the best it can be and are very knowledgeable and proud of where they are and their surrounding areas..

Review 20:We could not fault this hotel. The food was also excellent and the attention to detail such as real coffee in the bedroom and a cafetiere at breakfast were nice touches.

Review 21:very little not to like. absence of small fridge in bedroom. funky music at breakfast - some tasteful baroque or early classical music would be more appropriate at that time of the morning.

Review 22:the garden, the friendliness of the staff

Review 23:I couldn't arrive until 2:30am and the hotel was very accommodating, and the night porter was really lovely! The hotel I really nice with amazingly comfortable beds. There was even a wee book exchange on my level where you could borrow or swap books! The village it's in is quaint looking and I'd definitely like to go back there.

Review 24:We didn't like the power shower over a bath with limited curtaining - everything in the room was filmed with spray. The music in the bar / dining room was irritating (mostly yowling female singers), but that's just personal taste.

Review 25:This is one of the most well-maintained hotels, inside and out, that we've ever stayed in. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and talked like real people rather than programmed robots. The food was exceptionally good.

Review 26:Lack of off enough off street parking and noisy floor boards in the annex cottages, especially at 2am!

Review 27:Warm welcome and convenient, we have returned again and again. Excellent food and service.

Review 28:We stayed in the budget room and while we didn't mind the winding stairs we felt the heating and bathroom facilities could do with modernising. We could have done with a softer bed as well but all in all it was a lovely stay and the regular rooms which the the couple we traveleled with was very nicely done.

Review 29:The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Dinner in the evening was faultless and breakfast was very good as well.

Review 30:Warm welcome, shown to room by assistant manager who was very friendly and helpful. Food very good and service friendly and attentive. Comfortable accommodation and central location in town.

Review 31:Everything at Selkirk was great. The staff were extremely helpful, the food in the restaurant was exceptional. The bed was very comfortable. Great location for exploring my families history.

Review 32:We didn't want room 12 which is up two flights of stairs, but "Al" kindly offered us a ground floor room which was just OK - not what we expected from looking at the photos of other rooms.

Review 33:Very central in Kirkcudbright, but also found much nicer places to stay in close proximity to the Selkirk Arms.

Review 34:Being woken up early with the birds singing! The shower was a bit puny but worked.

Review 35:The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. Asked for quiet room. Given a room in the annex next to Hotel - very quiet.

Review 36:Attic.bedroom.bit.cold.little insulation in attic.space I would presume.that's my line of business.btw

Review 37:Great.breakfast.accommodating my early start.even on Sunday

Review 38:The noise from next room's shower at about 7 o'clock in the morning!

Review 39:A good, comfortable, well run hotel with "old fashioned" personal touches in reception and bar/restaurent.

Review 40:there is complementary wifi however we struggled some times with the signal in our bedroom.

Review 41:staff were all very helpful, breakfast was delicious and we had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was one of the best steaks we have had in our life, all locally sourced produce. comfortable and clean room.

Review 42:There was not a lot we didn't like, maybe the lighting in the bar was a little bright!

Review 43:The staff were all very helpful, smily and attentive. The food was excellent, very well cooked and reasonably priced. The room was very comfortable and welcoming and the bathroom had all you needed. I am sure in the summer it would be great to sit in the garden.

Review 44:Can't realy think of any thing we didn't like

Review 45:The people of the town very friendly the hotel and food excellent very obliging staff will recomend the hotel to family and friends

Review 46:I think the dinner menu could offer a wider range of options. It is a bit American in style with steaks. Not really any lighter options in the evening and steak pie with haggis is just odd. We ate out on two nights out of three but would have been happy to have dinner there if we could have found something to our taste.

Review 47:Bedroom very comfortable - good bathroom. Very nice public areas. Quiet Location. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Review 48:Everything about the hotel was excellent. My room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff were all pleasant, helpful and accommodating of any request I made without any fuss. I would heartily recommend it to others.

Review 49:The stairs leading to room poor bed was comfortable room a bit awkward hand basin in room shower was small was not impressed

Review 50:Staff friendly Room Clean

Review 51:Our room was a little noisy during the day as sounds could be heard from a nearby kitchen and occasionally from the corridor outside. However, the overall impression was positive.

Review 52:The staff were very friendly. We forgot a couple of pullovers in a drawer and they were posted promptly to us wrapped most carefully. The hotel has a very good restaurant.

Review 53:Unlucky room 17.. above kitchen couldnt sleep with window closed and staff closing kitchen then opening early , Breakfast was very poor. sausages were vile. bacon burnt ,bread untoasted

Review 54:Friendly staff and management , clean and comfortable hotel liked garden area and sports bar

Review 55:We were a last minute booking and took the last room, which was fine apart from the narrow staircase. No problem for us as we were informed on the booking form. Would be a drawback for anyone elderly or with walking difficulties

Review 56:Excellent throughout. Very efficient friendly staff, delicious food and nothing was too much trouble.

Review 57:We were made most welcome on arrival, the staff were excellent especially the youngsters serving in the restaurant, bar etc.Food very good, everything about the place first class
