Reviews for The Studley Hotel
Review 1:Breakfast was slow, along with only 2 staff on who seemed more interested in clearing the tables rather than serving waiting guests. I had to ask 3 times for my poached eggs. There was no evidence of the breakfast buffet being temperature probed at any time. At night when I returned there were numerous staff at the restaurant bar, having an end of shift drink, sad to say that not one of them greeted or spoke to me on the several occasions I passed by them.
Review 2:The bar staff in the early evening were excellent and very good at their jobs, Alex was very good as was the other young man, whose name I did not get. Usb chargers in the bedroom were a great feature.
Review 3:The room was a little chilly, and bath/ shower was fine for me, my wife found it a little awkward owing to the depth of the bath.
Review 4:The staff were excellent.
Review 5:Staff were very pleasant, and helpful ensured our stay was perfect for the short getaway break we had. Excellent hotel. certainly stay at the hotel again and pass on to friends and family.
Review 6:One complaint, our room was 39, low ceilings my husband is 6'2 I'll remember for future booking
Review 7:Location great, clean room, sheets smelled amazing
Review 8:The only thing was the price of the room for one night
Review 9:The room was amazing, loads of space, clean and well decorated. The bathroom was great, with the deep bath, very modern. Restaurant was amazing and the location was perfect for a trip to harrogate
Review 10:Mattress could have been better - a bit hard.
Review 11:Sockets with a usb port! Fresh milk in the fridge in our room. Separate sitting room. Friendly staff made us sandwiches late in the evening. We didn't have time to try the restaurant but we will next time.
Review 12:Bed was so hard and uncomfortable. We asked if we could change room for the second night. Got offered another room or a topper for bed we currently had so we settled for topper rather move belongings. Topper made no difference. So hard. This was room 26. Other than bed, pleased with everything else.
Review 13:Shower cubicle looked good, shame the water pressure let it down. Waste paper bin was not emptied each day although full, and I had to ask for new batteries for TVs remote twice.
Review 14:The Orchid Restuarant was excellent and this was the main reason for staying at the hotel.
Review 15:One very minor quibble - the pillows were like lumps of concrete
Review 16:Location was very central. Staff were very helpful. Food was excellent, both in the restaurant at night and the breakfast. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Room was nicely furnished.
Review 17:You have some very strange rules. For example, we returned from the theatre just before midnight and my wife said she would like a cocktail as a nightcap. For some unfathomable reason the barman wouldn't serve me a cocktail because the rule is that no cocktails as sold after 11pm. I'm not sure what that's all about. A bar in a modern, 21st century hotel won't serve cocktails after 11pm, bit of step backwards methinks. Can you imagine a hotel on the continent refusing to serve a cocktail after 11pm? I would respectfully suggest you look at some of your odd policies and get into the 21st century.
Review 18:Location
Review 19:Noise in room from other rooms. Cold in afternoon/evening with no heating on. Radiator red hot during the night.
Review 20:Reception very polite on arrival Had meal in the restaurant first night which was fine.
Review 21:car parking was super tight breakfast was average bedeoom and bathroom very small
Review 22:Internet in room and charging points location Value for me net Priority dinner reservation at the restaurant
Review 23:Specifically asked for bath and got one so really happy about that - unfortunately it was a small square one and I couldn't stretch out at all. Room was also far too warm at night even after we turned off the radiator and constantly kept the window open. Everything else great.
Review 24:Free upgrade in room was great. Barman was brilliant (Alex?)! Still made me breakfast when I came down late! Reception and restaurant staff lovely.
Review 25:Car park is too small, but did find good spot on road and parking permit was provided. Bed was a little too soft for my liking.
Review 26:Great Location to walk into town center. Good Cooked Breakfast. Rooms have been refurbished with modern fixtures. Staff Very Friendly and helpfull
Review 27:The breakfast was a buffet and was dried up. We eat at Betty's cafe on the second morning to avoid another poor breakfast. We were told on entering the Restraunt at 5.30pm that they needed the table back at 7.00 pm for the second sitting. Had I been told this when I booked the table I would not have booked it. When spending £160.00 plus on a meal I don't expect to be ushered off the table when my son is still eating his desert.
Review 28:The Restraunt which we have visited before
Review 29:Car park small, and difficult to to use. Sunday morning breakfast buffet cold, but better on the Monday. And please get a new toaster. BUT the big negative was room 14 (12 would be the same) the Wild restaurant is directly below these rooms, don't expect to sleep whilst the restaurant is open, since you feel like you are sharing your room with the Wilds customers!
Review 30:Location was good and the restaurant was very good Staff were friendly
Review 31:The service was excellent and the facilities very nice, the staff went out of their way to ensure an early check in too, overall an excellent stay we hope to repeat
Review 32:A little too expensive we thought
Review 33:The room was excellent. We personally thought Owen who worked there was particularly professional and welcoming. It was a little expensive but overall very good
Review 34:Standard tipping charge to meals. Should be optional as they could end up getting more. It takes the pleasure away from rewarding good service.
Review 35:Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent Asian cuisine.
Review 36:We had one issue that I won't be specific about, but the Night Porter & Front of House Staff dealt with swiftly.
Review 37:Very welcoming staff, who offered help during a bit of a problem, with fairness, understanding and proactive behaviour. Great bathroom, comfy bed, big modern tv and generally clean room and facilities.
Review 38:Room very small and crammed with furniture. Decor and linen needs upgrade. Breakfast quality not great, the very cheapest jam, bread, butter etc.
Review 39:Great position near Valley Gardens, good outside seating. Charming staff. Lively bar.
Review 40:No lift to third floor with a bad knee was troublesome however staff helped where they could
Review 41:Location is excellent very central to local cafes bars etc Roman baths Staff keen to serve with a smile
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff. Great bar and superb restaurant. Comfortable bed and immaculate bathroom. Lovely breakfast. Faultless.
Review 44:No lift to small double bedroom floor but helpful staff carried the bags.
Review 45:Location, price, breakfast, staff. Accurate description on Booking.com of "small double" . The bathroom was good. High quality fixtures and fittings throughout.
Review 46:booked executive twin which was a double which my friend and i had to seperate.revealing dirt and rubbish i had checked before hand and was assured there would be plenty if space between the beds.
Review 47:sunday buffet brekfast
Review 48:Not applicable.
Review 49:The staff were friendly, the food was excellent, the decor was top class, the beds were comfy, the location was excellent. Cannot fault.
Review 50:Nothing to dislike
Review 51:Warm welcome from friendly staff. Very accommodating to the needs of our little one including a free upgrade to a larger, quiet room. Superb restaurant. Good atmosphere in bar and lounge areas. Excellent location.
Review 52:I had a bad leg and found it a little tricky to get around, but that was a minor issu!
Review 53:The Thai staff and great food! My wife is Thai and it's not often she likes English Thai restaurant, but she loved the orchid restaurant!
Review 54:Kitchen extraction fan below bedroom window! As nice as the meals looked the smell from freshly prepared deep fried food was just too close for comfort on a hot summers night when you needed window open in early evening when restaurant open. no probs at other times and it didn't really spoil experience too much and they would have upgraded us if we wanted but not worth hassle for our few nights stay.
Review 55:location was close enough to amenities and town but far enough away to walk evening meal off! ;-) Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Good base for going to other towns etc.
Review 56:We could hear people in next room and above when we were in bed.
Review 57:The staff were very obliging . Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very good as was dinner in the Orchid.
Review 58:There is very limited parking in a small lot behind the property. We had to get a permit from the desk and find a place on a nearby road.
Review 59:The outside of the building retains its old charm, but the inside is modern and recently refurbished. The pancakes with maple syrup at breakfast were actually crepes and very tasty!
Review 60:Friendly, helpful staff couldn't be more welcoming or accommodating. We had a small room & although it was a bit of a squeeze, it had everything we needed & it's not like you spend all your time in it!
Review 61:Perfect location, was here during the time of the Great Yorkshire Show and so expected the price I paid for a last minute booking. Superior room was excellently appointed, clean and spacious. Bed was excellent and slept well. Air conditioning worked a treat.
Review 62:Our room was small Although the bed was comfortable the duvet and cover had seen better days The Venetian blind was full of dust Could not get the shower to warm up at all and halfway through the automatic light went off Not really good value for money Breakfast bar was lean - Cooked food was good
Review 63:The staff were friendly and helpful and a problem with the bill was sorted very swiftly and professionally
Review 64:No gripes at all......
Review 65:Fabulous hotel in every way. Great location for a lovely stroll to RHS Harlow Carr. Staff all friendly and helpful. The on-site Thai restaurant is very excellent. We booked an executive room and were very happy with it.
Review 66:The bed was very comfortable. The little touches made all the difference like the fresh milk in the fridge/complimentary milk and the biscuits on the hospitality tray.
Review 67:Over efficient staff at breakfast. Food was ok but waitress too eager to snap my plate away which resulted in her knocking my toast out of my hand. This was rude and unnecessary. All other aspects of our stay were excellent.
Review 68:Very genuinely friendly staff. Orchid restaurant, although slightly overpriced, was awesome. I would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant despite my negative comment about breakfast.
Review 69:Standard throughout was not outstanding. Conference chairs left outside the property is your first impression in the car park. Paintwork and carpets are tired. Gym at nearby hotel is awful
Review 70:Location Breakfast and service was good.
Review 71:Stayed in room 37 with shower only.. Shower cubicle could do with a small shelf for shampoo and soap. Window too stiff to open not good if you're elderly.
Review 72:Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Review 73:We paid full price but 1st floor bedroom was extremely noisy from extractor fan from kitchen, looked out of filthy windows onto flat roof and was very small. We were charged for a standard not a small double. The extractor fan caused the window to noisily rattle all the time and there was also noise from nearby reception through walls. When we mentioned it to reception, there only response was "We are aware there is an issue;ask for a different room next time." Disappointing.
Review 74:Food in the Thai restaurant was very good. Hotel is conveniently placed for shops, restaurants, valley gardens.
Review 75:The parking was difficult in their small car park although they did provide parking tickets for street parking. There were a great many stairs to negotiate with our luggage as the lift only went up to the 1st floor
Review 76:The oriental evening meal in the restaurant was excellent.
Review 77:The breakfast was not good. It was self service and cold. We asked for toast four times, to finally be informed 'we only have two toasters in the kitchen'. Not good. This was a dissapointment as the restaurant has such high ratings.
Review 78:The room was quite small, we were in the eaves! But the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. However, the wardrobes are very low and we were unable to hang full length dresses. This room was £144.00 for one night which, considering the access, size and the wardrobes was a bit overpriced. The lift does not go to this floor and my friend is slightly disabled so it was difficult sometimes.
Review 79:Location for the town and for travelling further a field, by bus and train. For ourselves an ideal hotel which was well organised and with excellent staff
Review 80:the car park is first come first served and is also small and quite difficult to negotiate in and out though staff only too happy to help if asked.
Review 81:from arriving to leaving the staff were friendly and helpfull. all areas and room were spotless and the whole visit was totally relaxing we cant wait to return.an added bonus was the brilliant orchid restaurant where we had a superb evening out.
Review 82:Thought £128 was too expensive for the room/hotel Around £90 feels more fair based on my travel experience! Staff on the bar were slow on Saturday night and mistook then forgot our order Breakfast service was a bit slow with a long wait for missing bacon, sausages, toast etc however it did taste lovely when we got it all
Review 83:Great location Lovely comfortable bed and room All the facilities you need in the room Free car parking and wifi
Review 84:We managed to get a parking space but did speak to some people that had struggled
Review 85:Great location. Restaurant and bar are excellent. Rooms nicely decorated. Beds really comfortable
Review 86:Bed was not comfortable at all but didn't bother me for 1 night
Review 87:Food in the restaurant was great and waitress even suggested to go smaller probably seen people like me ordering like I was at the local Chinese before which turns out the small portion was more than enough. Great shops and location of shops close together
Review 88:Great staff who managed to sort out a table in their busy restaurant an hour before start of service. Room very comfortable with excellent wifi and chargers for all my electronic devices
Review 89:Heating system. It was difficult to locate the switches bathroom's heating. No fridge in the room and non availability of soft drinks even cold water in the room.
Review 90:Size of the room
Review 91:Only negative point,no lift in hotel and we were on top floor..and at time of booking we weren't asked if this would be an issue..thankfully we aren't disabled but would have preferred lower floor or lift!
Review 92:Very helpful,friendly staff,especially Dario,great barman!Had great meal at Orchid restaurant..amazing menu choice.
Review 93:Superb smallish hotel, exquisitely comfortable, and a great place to relax and unwind. Great location. Decor throughout is impressive and has delightful design features. Rooms are everything a four star hotel should be.
Review 94:We were on the top floor in the eves and my husband being well over 6ft had difficulty moving around in the ensuite as having to be careful when using the staircases.
Review 95:Helpful staff, good breakfast. Will recommend it to my son who lives in Harrogate for other visitors of his.
Review 96:Unfortunately our room was located on the ground floor near the bar and above the restaurant and we had a disturbed night as a result of this
Review 97:The Orchid restaurant was excellent
Review 98:Room was a bit small and wasn't very warm took along time for it to heat up Shower wasn't very good low pressure
Review 99:Helpful friendly staff,great breakfast
Review 100:Breakfast was self service not offered anthing else cooked ie poached eggs or egg benedict just the basics, would expect better breakfast due to the hotel being quite expensive.
Review 101:There was nothing I didnt like
Review 102:We liked everything. Nothing was to much trouble. All the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. We ate in the orchid restaurant on the Saturday night and the food, service and setting were perfect. Our room was out of this world there was everything you could want. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 103:The breakfast wasn't great. It had been sat for a while, I've had much better breakfasts with more choice at cheaper hotels.
Review 104:The room was lovely and staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 105:There didn't seem anything not to like. The bar was great, the room was great and the restaurant was great!
Review 106:Just a lovely place in a great location can i move in please
Review 107:The person who took our booking for dinner was a bit rude. The suite wasn't very suitable for a leisure stay as it was more suited to a business stay.
Review 108:The hotel restaurant - The Orchid - is very good.
Review 109:Shower over bath. Motion sensor lighting. Lack of shelving in bathroom. Bathroom mirror. Towels. No robes. Limited in room drinks choice. Breakfast. Dust!!!
Review 110:Comfortable bed. Location. Quiet.
Review 111:The car park there was a skip taken up two bays and we had to park the car on the roadside a five minute walk away.
Review 112:The staff made us to feel very welcome and couldn't do enough for us would recommend.
Review 113:Only the stairs up to the reception & rooms...but there is a lift.
Review 114:The hotel is lovely & brilliantly located. I stayed in the Orchid room which was gorgeous. The bed was huge & so comfortable. The room had a walk in wardrobe with a safe. The bathroom was fantastic with a walk in shower & an amazing mirror with a radio. The staff were so friendly & helpful & booked us a table in a restaurant at short notice. I would stay there again.
Review 115:Not being able to park in car park we thought was going to a problem. We were soon given an all day pass to park on street in front of hotel. The carpark is very small
Review 116:We spent New Year's Eve here and I have to say we were greeted and helped by friendly staff throughout. The Orchid Thai restaurant is one of the best we have visited-food is delicious. Rooms are very well equipped and the bathrooms are superb.
Review 117:Nothing I didn't like, really enjoyed our stay
Review 118:Location great, room and bathroom were lovely, food in orchid resteraunt was lovely. Fab room service as could order off resteraunts menu not just the sandwich menu! Staff very friendly and accomadating of my 2yr old even tho it doesn't seem or look like a family hotel. Breakfast was also good.
Review 119:This was our 2nd visit to the Studley Hotel. Its location is a 5 minute walk into the centre and exhibition centre. The hotel is clean, the staff are helpful and friendly and the breakfast is superb. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
Review 120:Excellent service and comfort at this hotel -with central location and car parking nothing us too much trouble and the staff make sure that you are made to feel very welcome - I would certainly recommend this hotel.
Review 121:Excellent location really handy for town centre and we managed to get a parking space which was great. Hotel really nice and we were upgraded so room was lovely and spacious, staff were helpful and friendly. Restaurant very good both evening meal and breakfast. Would definitely go back.
Review 122:Water for shower on the first evening wasnt as hot as would have liked, also hotel felt quite chilly no radiators on, but was corrected next day, couldn't fault anything else.
Review 123:A short walk from railway station to hotel, room ready upon arrival. Evening meal in The Orchid Restaurant was a fantastic meal. Very enjoyable breakfasts, 1st class service from waiting staff. Will be back.
Review 124:Noisy room above the kitchen area- sound of door opening and closing was constant background noise. "Invisibility" factor of waiting to be seated at our reserved table while large group arrived later but were ushered in before us.
Review 125:Very friendly helpful staff. Took our our concerns about the noisy room seriously intending to investigate it.
Review 126:Poor lighting in room, always the same!
Review 127:The friendliness and efficiency of staff was exceptional.Breakfast very good. Location, near to the centre of Harrogate but quiet. Orchid restaurant excellent. Not a luxury hotel but good value, worth paying a bit more to get a bigger room though.
Review 128:Nothing to dislike.
Review 129:Relaxing hotel which is very nicely decorated. The staff were all very polite and helpful. Lovely cooked breakfast, with the added touch of the waitress going around each table at the end of the breakfast period asking if anyone wanted anything else from the buffet before it was removed.
Review 130:Nothing really its a great place. Has a very small car park (10 cars or so?) but given its location in Harrogate at least it has a car park! If you stay the w/e follow the road out the back of the car park and there's lots of free parking on a sunday.
Review 131:Very Modern hotel, lots of sofas! Well priced bar, good breakfast (Orchid restaurant smells were amazing but unfortunately we had other plans -maybe next time!). Orchid rooms are very nice, lovely bed, dressing room, big TV.
Review 132:Heating was very poor, there was a electric heater in our room so we could not have been the first to complain, the bathroom was very cold as the towel rail would not stay hot. I did mention this 3 times & we were given fresh dry towels but no discount on our invoice
Review 133:Orchid was great
Review 134:The bathroom sink and mirror were a little too high for me , I'm only 5ft 1" and I was unable to use the mirror for makeup. We were in a room at the back of the hotel by the car park and the guests were rather noisy leaving the restaurant at night but that's not the fault of the hotel.
Review 135:Lovely décor, spacious and well fitted bathroom and great breakfasts. We booked a meal in the restaurant for Friday evening, it was very busy but the service and food were excellent. There is a small car park at the back but difficult to park, however, the receptionist gave us a pass to park on the main road.
Review 136:The rooms were a little noisy, coming mostly from the central extractor fan that ran from the restaurant up through the hotel. The lower level room we initially had, room 10 was so bad we requested a move straight away and were accomodated.
Review 137:The location was perfect, centrally located and easily accessible for rail travellers such as ourselves. The orchid restaurant was excellent and whilst pricey offered a fantastic meal.
