Reviews for The Chudleigh

Review 1:Wish we'd had time to stay a bit longer!

Review 2:We received a very warm welcome from Carol & Peter before being shown to our very comfortable and well appointed room, there were lots of little extras like good quality hot drinks tray, biccys, a bottle of water on either side of the bed and even a little bar of green and blacks. The room was beautifully decorated with gorgeous linens, plush carpet and a comfy seating area. We slept so well in the huge comfortable bed before being treated to a fabulous breakfast cooked by Peter in the morning. The location is spot on for easy access to the local amenities including the lovely beach and ornamental gardens. Literally less than a 5 minutes walk to the beach and also to the shops. There's plenty of space to park your car at the front of the property. Thank you for a great stay Carol and Peter, we'll see you again in a few weeks.

Review 3:Only having one night there!

Review 4:Comfortable, great facilities, excellent breakfast. There is an old fashioned carpet on arrival which made me wonder initially...but this simply told us that the people running this charming place have old fashioned values. A quality experience from people who evidently care enormously about the comfort and experience of their guests. We travel for around 10 weeks a year on business int he UK and avoid B&B because they can be a bit shabby. If we could guarantee a Chudleigh in every town we'd be converts...

Review 5:I can honestly say nothing

Review 6:Great hotel great location owners carol and Peter were wonderful so helpful would recommend this place to all my friends and family

Review 7:Such lovely hosts! Very comfortable bed with everything you need for a short stay. Even salmon for breakfast served by a smiling young lady. I will certainly stay here again when I have other meetings!

Review 8:On arrival our welcome was fantastic, the owners carol and Peter were the. Best, perfect hosts , we can't express our thanks enough ,perfect in everyway, since leaving on Sunday I have tried to re book already

Review 9:No comment

Review 10:Carol and Peter are such a friendly couple, had a warm welcome when me and my partner when we first arrived, made sure everything was suited for us, our room was perfect number 2, hope to have the same room for next time, breakfast was delightful and well cooked, and is a good walking distance from the town centre and the pier, will definitely be staying there next time.

Review 11:The glass shelf above the sink is to low so you can't have a good wash with out flooding the floot. (Room 11)

Review 12:well presented room, with excellent on sweet, well cooked breakfast

Review 13:Totally fautless

Review 14:Absolutely everything was perfect. Congratulations to Carol & Peter, who have run this delightful B&B for 51 years. They have thought of EVERYTHING for their guests. Cannot wait to return. Thank you very much.

Review 15:It was lovely to be greeted at the door,by a friendly face and hand shake.I asked for a quiet room at that is what I got. Spotlessly clean, lovely white bed linen and towels. Not one complaint. Oh maybe could have had clock radio, but that is the only minus.

Review 16:This is our third stay. The owners are lovely and friendly. The extra touches such as the hot chocolate and bar of chocolate in our room are great and the muffin at the end of breakfast was delicious. We left our phone charger in the room and got an email, via booking.com, to tell us. Luckily we were still in Clacton so we could collect it.

Review 17:A last minute booking to see the air show with my Mum. The owners were so helpful. We had a ground floor room so no steps! Mom was feeling cold on the evening and although it didn't need it, the owner put the heating on especially for us... So I apologise to anyone else who was warm. The breakfast was a delight and lovely service from the girls. Very attentive and also very useful that you weren't fetching your own breakfast, especially for my mum who would have struggled. We hope to return and would ask for the other downstairs room as I understand it has a walk in shower rather than a bath with a shower over, which was no good for mom. The rooms were a decent size and the decor was lovely. The refreshments left in the room are wonderful. Biscuits, block of chocolate, all sorts of teas and coffees. Also good to have parking at the hotel. Its not on the front, but a side road 1 minute from the front. It's near the pier and the shops, so a good place. I would certainly revisit as we didn't get much time in the town.

Review 18:Everything about the Chudleigh was excellent - really nothing could be improved upon. Welcoming and friendly staff, well set up, clean and very organized, lovely room, great food and room treats, quiet setting but very close to pier area.

Review 19:Better than your 'standard' B&B. Some real nice touches - complimentary Green & Blacks chocolate, quality tea and coffee (also organic decaf tea!). Quality breakfast - I had salmon and eggs. Lovely!

Review 20:Cooked breakfast was excellent, but the breakfast room would benefit from a radio, as it was very quiet.

Review 21:Helpfulness and attitude of staff. Felt valued. Right by seafront and pier. Room upgraded on arrival; unexpected and welcome.

Review 22:Upon arrival Carol and Peter were very welcoming and friendly. Such a lovely couple, checkin was simple and easy whilst chatting. The room was lovely, room2, bright and airy and a lovely little balcony. Clean throughout. Very central to shops, pier and beach only a 2min walk. We stayed for one night, but wished had booked for 2, the breakfast was lovely, lots of choice, very friendly staff again. There is nothing I can say badly for this B&B, absolutely delightful, it's no wonder this has been open for 50years! This truely is a typical seaside B&B, takes me back to when I was little. Cannot wait to stay again.

Review 23:I was made welcome straight away at checking in. Room was very comfortable with a gorgeous bathroom. Lovely being so close to the beach and local shops. The owners of The Chudleigh were absolutely attentive, charming and delightful. Look forward to returning again. Thank you.

Review 24:Excellent as ever. I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Carol and Peter are wonderful hosts. I've stayed in hotels all over the world including some of the premier brands but The Chudleigh is a personal favourite of mine.

Review 25:There was nothing we didnt like about the hotel.

Review 26:The friendlyness of the owners. The quality and cleanliness of our room. So many extra touches in the room nothing is left to chance. Breakfast was just outstanding, amazing choice.

Review 27:You always get a warm welcome from the staff. Nothing is too much trouble! The rooms are spotless, mine was a single with plenty of space and everything you could need. Excellent value, pity Booking, com doesn't have higher ratings...

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Friendly welcome, very helpful. Clean room with extras like water and good quality biscuits. Breakfast was excellent, would definatley stay again, perfect location.

Review 30:Dated decor, the rooms need to be brought into the current day. The shower in our room was very poor, nothing more than drizzle, also no therosatic tap, so the water was either too hot or too cold. Seriously dated B&B.

Review 31:Friendly homely service, great breakfast service. Bed was firm, suprisingly slept well.

Review 32:Like a home from home and could not fault this lovely B & B. Carol and Peter could not have been more helpful, but not in an intrusive way. Immaculately clean and wonderfully comfortable.

Review 33:Everything was perfect.

Review 34:The bed and bedding was 100 per cent. so comfy. room and bathroom spotlessly clean, everything perfect. near beach and shops. breakfast was perfect, maybe too much, !!!! but cooked beautifully. Lovely waitress, brilliant chef...Hostess so friendly.

Review 35:The staff were brilliant and went out of their way to look after us. The room was spotlessly clean with huge towels! Breakfast was awesome. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Review 36:Phone as well as Tablet kept loosing WiFi-signal.

Review 37:the welcoming of Peter and Carol felt like a warm embrace and makes you feel at home. Same with the room and the breakfast (Peter as chef - hhhmmmm lovely!) and their lovely girls serving. There is a seperate kind of a living or club room, where you can meet others living in the hotel and spend a nice time chatting.

Review 38:Great location, excellent breakfast, very comfortable room, but the thing which sticks in the memory is the friendliness and hard work of the owners, who have run the place for an incredible 51 years but still seem to retain their enthusiasm. If you are in Clacton this is definitely the place to stay.

Review 39:We wanted a quiet and comfortable guesthouse and the owners provided all we could have wished for. Very friendly, clean and spacious. Breakfast was a treat and we will certainly visit again. We recommend the Chudleigh wholeheartedly.

Review 40:location was great, being able to park up and not need the car until you left the next day. large room with a big bed and couch, lovely bath room.. breakfast was plentiful and good quality. great hosts

Review 41:Nothing. It was simply a great experience all round.

Review 42:Peter and Carol the proprietors couldn't do enough to ensure I was well looked after. Friendly, helpful and it was lovely to go to a hotel where I felt welcome and looked after. It was lovely to have a proper served breakfast - cooked to order and not one of those ghastly self serve jobs! It was as a proper caring hotel should be and I will definatley be back very soon. Highly recommended. Room was large airy and very comfortable. Spotlessly clean and well catered for with bottled water each day, tea, coffee, biscuits etc.

Review 43:Just a very small point, we stayed in room 10 and i think the boiler is next to that room. At a about 6am it would turn on and make a bit of a noise, i slept through it but my partner who is light sleeper was awoken by it.

Review 44:The bed and pillows were amazing. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and set us up for the day.

Review 45:I if I pick just one thing the breakfasts were exceptional. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the bathroom recently refurbished to a high standard.

Review 46:Only the free wifi was a bit slow and shower was a bit small and not much waterpressure, but I experienced that more times in the UK :)

Review 47:Absolutely lovely people, felt very welcome and I can just highly reccomend this. Absolutely great value for money. Nice clean room in and old fashioned but well maintained and very clean house. Good old fashioned service provided. Loved it. Breakfast was fantastic , you can't get any better really.

Review 48:There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this place.

Review 49:I loved everything! Spacious modern room with partial see view (2nd floor, no.1), impeccably clean bathroom, amazing breakfast and lovely hosts.

Review 50:Everything was great! Not a single thing to complain about. If there W's anything at all I would not hesitate to say so...

Review 51:Everything was way beyond expectation, as if my neighbour and I with my Staffin were the only guests - made to feel right at home in very high standards of cleanliness and peacefulness.

Review 52:Nothing to dislike

Review 53:It was like home from home, you could not find any faults , mine hosts could not be more helpful, My room Number 1 was so comfortable and was very very clean Breakfast was first class, plenty to eat and grilled as well, I will definitely be going back

Review 54:Parking was OK for us but space is limited Street is not completely residential as pictures might indicate. Hotel has a garage opposite and other businesses. OK on a Sunday but might not be so in the week

Review 55:Rooms comfortable and clean Newly refurbished bathroom Good breakfast quality and quantity Relatively quiet as on a side street from main promenade. Staff friendly and helpful

Review 56:Lovely people. went out of their way to make the stay comfortable even though it was only for 1 night. Excellent location near to everything.

Review 57:We were greeted by a very warm and friendly couple who were charming! The Chudleigh is immaculate and in a perfect location. Couldn't have wished for a better stay! Would definitely recommend staying here:)

Review 58:Lovely, professional, friendly but never intrusive owners, assisted by Emily who was also great. Such a great comfy bed. Our second stay - his time over Christmas. We will definitely be back

Review 59:I liked everything, it's like home from home. Peters breakfast, but then he's been practicing about fifty years, it's first class. The bed, the towels, the shower, it's all great, and spotless, can't wait for our next visit to Clacton. Oh, and there's free parking bang in the middle of the town centre. Like I said, can't wait for the our next visit. See you soon.

Review 60:The staff/owners go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and that your every need is addressed. The food is delicious. A lovely place to stay. I will stay nowhere else while visiting Clacton.

Review 61:nothing

Review 62:Welcoming friendly staff Nicely decorated room with very comfortable bed and nice extras like biscuits and a chocolate bar provided. Unfortunately because of work hours was unable to try breakfast.

Review 63:Welcoming friendly staff Nicely decorated room with very comfortable bed and nice extras like biscuits and a chocolate bar provided. Excellent choice for breakfast which was well cooked. Excellent location being a short walk to sea front.

Review 64:There is nothing not to like. It disturbed me to see that someone wrote a negative review of this place. Totally uncalled for, goes to show you can't believe everything you read.

Review 65:Everything, especially the wonderful inn keepers! Carol and her husband Peter are simply wonderful people. I stayed 2 nights and I feel like I am part of the family. The place was very clean and tastefully decorated. Nice restaurants nearby. A beautiful seaside inn!

Review 66:The kind and personal touch, very friendly with an amazing cooked breakfast thrown in, clean and warm rooms, big bathroom, comfy bed and a free bar of chocolate : ) To me it's very good value for money, my 3rd year of staying here

Review 67:Arrived to a warm welcome from Peter and Carol, peter showed us to our room, carol arranged a taxi for us to go a wedding party at Clacton golf club, got back to a bed that gave the most fabulous night's sleep. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic cannot fault it in anyway Excellent we will definitely be back

Review 68:There were NO faults in my opinion.

Review 69:Victorian House well decorated to the standards you would have expected back when the home was built. The modern facilities did not intrude on the overall Victorian theme. So although Victorians would not have had en-suite these have been added in the beat possible taste. A great experience! The mature couple that own and run the place should be used as examples for others to learn from.

Review 70:Nothing.

Review 71:Everything We arrived early and still received a very warm and friendly welcome . Breakfast was excellent ,we were made to feel very at home . Would certainly stay again . Situation was excellent with close access to sea and shops. Parking a real bonus

Review 72:Parking is a bit tight

Review 73:Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room. Excellent service and a very good breakfast. I'll be back next time I visit the area.

Review 74:Best hotel I've stayed in in terms of cleanliness and service. Great location near the beach and restaurants. Would highly recommend this lovely family run hotel.

Review 75:There really wasn't anything not to like.

Review 76:The great welcome, unfailing helpfulness from all the staff, the super room and its comfort, superb breakfast and attention to detail. And everything is spick and span.

Review 77:The towels were just a little bit wet. We never had proper dry towels and they should provide things like a tiny toothpaste tube as we discovered that we had left ours at home.

Review 78:This place is so neat and tidy. There is a breath of fresh air and the bathrooms are so clean you just enjoy your bath. The bed was so comfortable me and my partner slept like babies. The staff was excellent especially Peter. The breakfast was very good and the place is just a few yards from the beach. What else would one want? I will definitely go back to stay at The Chudleigh one day.

Review 79:Nothing all good.

Review 80:We stayed at The Chudleigh as a group of friends visiting another friend. We have stayed many times and are never disappointed. Always a friendly welcome. Lovely clean and well kept rooms. Plus a fantastic breakfast in the morning. Thank you Peter and staff. We will see u again.

Review 83:leaving

Review 84:nothing more to add really, first class accommodation, carol & peter lovely hosts, stayed here last year, and will possibly stay again next year, breakfasts to die for, all in all, another week well spent at the chuleigh.

Review 85:Only one small thing. The landlady was a bit, shall i say , vocal. a very pleasant lady with a very loud voice, which we found a bit distracting when eating our breakfast.

Review 86:Good location, close to the front and pier. Nice clean, comfortable room with a massive 6ft bed. Good breakfast with lots of choice and all with the added bonus of off street parking which is quite rare in seaside accomodation.

Review 87:We stayed for one night and the room was clean and comfortable. We particularly liked the selection of teas and coffee and the extra touch, the bar of chocolate!

Review 88:A personal thing , I like my towels less conditioned.but that is all. The chudleigh is fab and we shall go again,

Review 89:Second visit.Lovely hosts , lovely room , Sumptuous breakfast served with a smile ( no getting up and down to serve yourself ) .Right in town but peaceful. Great quality throughout . Nothing is too much trouble . Its a . haven .

Review 90:Parking. Got a parking spot on site but was not confident that it would always be available on return. 6 spots for 10 rooms on site with overflow on other property across the road.

Review 91:Central location with easy access to shopping and beach. Felt at home in hotel. Friendly owners and staff.

Review 92:There was nothing we did not like.

Review 93:Everything was perfect. Carol and Peter and their staff were very welcoming, the service was excellent and the breakfast delicious!! The Chudleigh is very near to the pier and other facilities in Clactonl

Review 94:Nothing - we loved the Chudleigh

Review 95:The staff were very friendly - and the rooms were very nice indeed. A charming old building -- fronted with a full flower display. The breakfast was very good - as was all the amenities.

Review 96:It was just great;] Maybe the shower pressure could be a little stronger..but honestly that would be a quibble as we would like to come back and stay when we visit our friends again:]

Review 97:The hospitality of the charming owners who have run this business since 1963! The professional organisation of everything The facilities in the room..number 10-lovely The service at breakfast and the choice at breakfast The fact that there was parking there The bed in room 10 is just so comfortable!

Review 98:just one hour for breakfast between 8.30-9.30, despite I love birds, the seagulls in the morning can wake you-despite shut windows (maybe just in our room)

Review 99:newly decorated rooms, very clean hotel and rooms, breakfast choice, friendliness and service from staff

Review 100:Absolutely outstanding care and service to their customers. Breakfast, variety of choice and quality of cooking, was amongst the best I have had at any hotel or guest house. I loved the mix of traditional decor, with the deepest skirting board I have ever seen, with very modern blinds in the dining room that swayed in the breeze, maintained lots of light in the dining room but maintained privacy when viewed from outside. It was all in keeping with the period of the building but right up to date where it mattered. The customer care was of the highest order. On my journey home I received a call to say I had left my mobile phone charger and where would I like it sent. I had it in the post by the following day. Super. I would recommend The Chudleigh to anyone who appreciates the good manners that my parents tried to teach me!

Review 101:The owners make you feel so welcome from the moment you arrive. The tea trays in the room had lovely little extras like chocolate & tasty cookies. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had. The choices are brilliant & all freshly cooked with quality ingredients.

Review 102:We liked everything

Review 103:attention to detail by owners good choice at breakfast décor in bedroom, bathroom and main areas helpfulness of owners and other staff

Review 104:Nothing not to like.

Review 105:We were pleasantly surprised by the size and brightness of our room. Bed very comfortable. Weather was very hot, but there was an oscillating fan provided which was welcome. Many extra's on tea-tray including biscuits and chocolate. Lovely size bathroom with toiletries provided. Breakfast excellent with various choices, staff very friendly. Off road parking. Very close to pier and seafront. We will definitely be returning.

Review 106:There was nothing at all that we did not like.

Review 107:The place its self and the staff were lovely, comfortable beds, very clean everywhere, food was excellent with lots of choice, all our needs were met to a high standard.

Review 108:The Abba songs on Pan Pipes at breakfast - then again I was smiling all the way through breakfast!!

Review 109:It was like a trip back to the 70's, and frankly I loved it. This is a traditional seaside hotel. Like home from home. Clean, compact, has everything you need. Quiet and calm. The breakfast - included, honestly one of the best English Breakfasts I've ever had. Friendly people. I'll use it again.

Review 110:Clacton centre!

Review 111:Lovely B&B. Spotlessly clean. Very friendly, helpful owners who make you very welcome. Large bedroom with very comfortable king size bed. Tea and coffee making facilities in room with great biscuits and chocolate! Excellent! Plenty of choice at breakfast with freshly cooked food.

Review 112:The owners are superb, i can best describe them as being as crazy as a box of frogs, they were the most chattiest, polite fun people to talk to. If you have chance check out The Chudleigh then do so, if you are disappointed then you really do need to adjust to being on a planet with an oxygen environment.

Review 113:A spider on the ceiling .lol

Review 114:Rooms very well decorated. Towels in bathroom thick and fluffy .Breakfast was cooked to perfection. With such a lot off choice. Nice and quite location. Tea coffee and biscuits had a nice selection, with a bottle of spring water as well.

Review 115:Could not close the bathroom door

Review 116:Owners welcome ,location,breakfast,very clean

Review 117:We were made very welcome. The accommodation was excellent with lots of nice touches. Breakfast was excellent.
