Reviews for Quality Hotel St Albans

Review 1:Swimming pool was closed :-( which was very very sad - I cried.

Review 2:Lots of parking and they let me leave my car there the next day for a few hours which was good.

Review 3:Despite reporting the radiator thermostat in our room was broken to reception, nothing was done which meant we had an uncomfortable nights sleep. Our room faced the main road which was noisy when the window was open to alleviate the heat.

Review 4:The location was ideal to walk in to town and the breakfast was good. The hotel has free parking and a pool.

Review 5:Hotel is dated. My first stay was in room 209 and I had to ask reception for a heater as it was very cold... second stay was better, room 219 (I think). I had to ask twice for some coffee with my breakfast. Staff not very warm or welcoming.

Review 6:Breakfast being included was a nice touch and it was very tasty, good selection too.

Review 7:Mattress was hard and dipped in the middle. Heating was on high throughout the hotel, the bedroom was therefore too hot. Windows wouldn't open. Breakfast poor

Review 8:Location, room was OK for the money

Review 9:The double bed mattress was full of hard lumps, extremely uncomfortable and difficult to lie on; so bad that that I put the duvet on top of the mattress in order to soften the lumps and get some sleep. A very loud function next door went on until midnight Breakfast was a disaster because there was no service. A pot of tea arrived when we had finished breakfast. They ran out of bacon and eggs so had to wait for some more to arrive.

Review 10:Did not like this hotel and not an experience I would recommend to anyone.

Review 11:Had room on the side of hotel on the main road, this road was busy into the early hours!

Review 12:Staff where very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a lovely spread of fruit to full English. The staff serving breakfast very helpful and nothing seemed to be to much trouble. Seemed as if more staff would have helped it run even more smoothly!

Review 13:What we do not like, is the fact that it is up for development and to make way for elderly accommodation.

Review 14:Everything, the breakfast one of the best we have had. Lovely thick white towels in shower room.

Review 15:Combination of a busy railway line just meters away, inadequate double glazing (soundproofing) and excessively creaking flooring (especially outside the room in the corridor). Not best pleased, especially at £93.00.

Review 16:Staff & food were superb, as were cleanliness standards.

Review 17:No thermostatic control on the radiator. Shower water scalding hot with no warning notice. Shower plug hole blocked. Poor lighting in room and only one chair in a double room.

Review 18:Quiet room. Good checking in and out service

Review 19:1st room was over the disco. I asked for another room, & was lucky to be moved. I was told they can't stop people from having a good time - virtually to stop complaining.

Review 20:Breakfast OK, nothing else.

Review 21:The hotel is situated next to a road with heavy traffic day and night. So if you happen to get a room facing the road expect some major noise. But even that was nothing compared to the actual nuisance: Right in the middle of this hotel is a big party hall and on certain nights this hall is rented to people who want to... well, you guessed it ... party! On Saturday the music was so loud that the floor and walls of my room were really trembling. I could have sung along every song and sleep was impossible. Okay, the party was over at midnight, but after an exhausting day of travelling you might want to go to bed earlier than that. Guests complained at the reception desk. Without avail. What I want to say is: It would be great if the manager of this hotel could sort out his priorities. Either he wants to earn money by renting the hall in his hotel to party people or he wants to run a hotel where guests can actually sleep! Both isn't possible! I will never stay in this hotel again!

Review 22:- excellent breakfast - friendly staff

Review 23:Just a short walking distance from City Centre, Abbey and Railway Station. Was very sad to hear from my friends that planning permission has been sought to pull hotel down

Review 24:Unfortunately we were on our way to a Christmas event and needed a quick check in. When we arrived someone else had been booked in my room in error. However the situation was rectified and we got our room ok in the end.

Review 25:comfortable room , good breakfast

Review 26:Internet connection overly complicated, and with us it only worked properly with one device.

Review 27:Very comfortable, pleasant staff, and a superb English breakfast.

Review 28:Bathroom was clean but a bit basic. Room was cold when we got in but warmed up quickly enough when we adjusted the radiator.

Review 29:Friendly staff. Mostly quiet at night. Lots of quick hot water for the bath.

Review 30:The single beds in the twin room 224 were flimsy and uncomfortable - a very basic room

Review 31:bright clean and friendly staff and a good breakfast. Good price.

Review 32:On checking in I asked if I could pay my bill on departure with a different card from the one I booked the room with and I was assured I could and that the new card did not need to be authorised . On departure I was told by a different member of staff that I had to use the card I had booked the room with which I duly did.

Review 33:Once again the brilliant breakfast choice with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Good parking facilities and walking distance into the city centre. Best breakfast choice in the area.

Review 34:Good location, staff were lovely and welcoming, breakfast was great. The little helpful extras like booking us a taxi to the station really made a good impression.

Review 35:I was told when I check in that breakfast was included, however the following morning I was told I would have to pay for breakfast as it was not included in the rate ??

Review 36:We booked for a child's bed as per booking.com and got a travel cot for a 9 year old. The rooms weren't big enough to accommodate a child's bed

Review 37:The breakfast was very good and the staff helpful

Review 38:we stay here quite often and we can see its looking a little tired. The breakfast is good value for money but can be a little over cooked i.e. bacon is hard.

Review 39:the staff were friendly and helpful

Review 40:Thin mattress and the rooms are definitely in need of an overhaul, but for the money, it was good.

Review 41:Good breakfast, lovely smiling staff. Good location for us that night. Great value at £76.

Review 42:Hotel was a bit cold made worse when doors opened letting in a draught. Bedroom was ok but needed redecoration. Radiator was barely on. Worse was the bathroom which was like a 1970's DIY disaster. There were cracks everywhere, toilet seat was at an angle, sink tap was loose, lino on floor had a large dent. Overall it looked like the bathroom hadn't been refurbished in 40 years. The bathroom didn't seem to fit the rest of the room with avacado suite.

Review 43:Location was good. Car parking was ok. Shower looked simple but worked well. Food was good.

Review 44:20 min easy walk to city centre (bus/taxi alternative), tv/shower all worked, single bed ok, very good breakfast, efficient reception, car parking fine, easy to find, quiet - no complaints at all.

Review 45:Room was tiny, bed noisy and against wall, road and train noise depending which side of hotel you were on. Bar/ restaurant had no atmosphere

Review 46:Quality of food was excellent , staff were friendly and helpfull

Review 47:The bed was really uncomfortable and the noise during the night by the other residents was very loud. When I informed the front desk they just shrugged their shoulders!!!!

Review 48:The location

Review 49:Decor is very tired and the bed extremely uncomfortable. There was also a bad smell in most parts of the hotel.

Review 50:Convenient location with parking and free WiFi. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 51:The lack of soundproofing to external and internal noise. Always dislike hearing what the next room is doing in the bathroom and what they are watching on the tv. Wide band of light shining under door. Poor room layout. Not sure where "Quality" comes from. I promptly cancelled my next booking with them

Review 52:The very friendly waitresses who looked after me well, Enjoyed the food

Review 53:Nothing to complain.

Review 54:The breakfast was my favourite. The staffs were also really kind toallow us to be in the hotel till the next morning as there were no roomsavailable for another extra night that we wished to put up. Thanks somuch to the management and staffs, you guys the best. :)

Review 55:I could have done with plumper pillows but really no faults otherwise.

Review 56:I just needed a bolt hole for the evening and night and this was just the thing.

Review 57:Hotel was very warm and windows did not open. There was aircon but this seemed to turn itself off during the night and when you left the room. Leaving a very warm room to return to.

Review 58:Staff were helpful. Room was a good size and facilities well presented.

Review 59:Only a very slight thing..... There was no hook on back of bathroom door..... Which would have been nice!!!

Review 60:The person who tended to us on the first evening meal and subsequent two breakfast, was caring, efficient & so welcoming.....it made the stay so memorable.

Review 61:the bar staff were not at the bar when i enter the bar and had to be called by a waitress to come and serve. the bathroom floor seemed very slippy room 232 not sure if they are all like that but could be dangerous unless looked at.

Review 62:very clean and quick check in

Review 63:Bathroom window in bad condition. No toilet brush. Tiny washbasin under shelf, awkward. Bathroom floor poor. No housekeeping, other than being asked if towels required.

Review 64:Excellent breakfast, very pleasant restaurant staff. Good location close to bus stop. Quiet.

Review 65:Room tiny, badly laid out, uncomfortable bed (even just looking at itwas painful), mattress and bedding overworn and poor quality. The roomfelt like it was 2 metres from the busy, 24hour railway line, which wasincredibly loud, made worse only by the fact the window couldn't beclosed to shut out the noise. Felt like not a wink of sleep all night. The shower head was broken and flooded the room, the light in the toiletdidn't work, and breakfast was subpar. The noise in the room reallywas terrible, prohibitive of decent sleep. The hotel cannot fail to knowthis, and yet they still let out the rooms. Really really poorexperience. Uncomfortable and did not provide an environment for rest. Not even that much cheaper than the really posh hotels in the centre ofSt Albans. Save your money and book somewhere better. Very bitter tasteleft in my mouth about the Quality Hotel brand, I will avoid in future.

Review 66:Customer services manager did follow up diligently with my complaint, though not to my satisfaction as regards a resolution. Reception staffwere courteous, and did accommodate some last minute changes to mybooking, which I was grateful for.

Review 67:The bathroom was very dated and not very clean. Mattress was of a very poor quality to say the least. Time and money needs to be spent improving the rooms.

Review 68:The friendliness of the staff and the breakfast was excellent

Review 69:shower was on the weak side and could have been hotter.

Review 70:Pleasant welcome, clean room, good breakfast. I attended a wedding reception for which the facility was excellent.

Review 71:In the bathroom of room 211, the shelf (under the mirror) does not leave enough space above the washbasin. Said otherwise, the washbasin is too small.

Review 72:prefer a double bed but hotel was full not their fault not a complaint so excuse my bed marking

Review 73:Staff really friendly I would recommend this hotel breakfast excellent

Review 74:This hotel always has a friendly atmosphere, the staff are smiley and cheerful. It is a 15 minute walk into the city making it an ideal more affordable location.

Review 75:Hotel website says hotel is five minutes walk from city centre. This is very untrue hotel is more than twenty minutes walk from city centre

Review 76:Very clean hotel very clean rooms great staff who are always happy to help. Breakfast is included in room price great quality food lots of choice

Review 77:Room was very hot when we arrived and window did not open, air conditioning was good and didn't take long to cool the room down.

Review 78:Very good breakfast, lots of choice and good quality.

Review 79:Loud noise till 0100 am in the morning. Didn't provide a silent room as requested. Had no courtesy to let the customer know before that it would be noisy because of a party and give option of choosing another hotel

Review 80:The bar / restaurant was closed until 5:30pm and as it's quite far from any shops you can't get a drink or anything to eat until 5:30pm. The coffee etc in the room is hidden the draw we didn't find it until too late.

Review 81:The hotel was clean and staff friendly.

Review 82:Only slight criticism would be that the room we stayed in was quite small, but this is only a minor point, because it was a one night stay. Plus, the room was comfortable and well presented.

Review 83:Nice hotel with friendly staff in a good location. Tasty buffet breakfast in the morning. Good facilities with a bar & pool etc. Comfortable, well decorated room.

Review 84:The room was spacious and we unexpectedly had a four poster bed. However the mattress was awful. The springs creaked and dug into your back. So we got very little sleep. It may be that we were just unlucky with our bed but would be reluctant to stay there again.

Review 85:Very friendly comfortable hotel. Ideal location for what we wanted. It was a little tired but very clean and tidy.

Review 86:The room being a single was like a shoe box and the single bed was very uncomfortable. Did not find the tea makings in the draw until it was time to leave - maybe they do not want you to find them.

Review 87:The breakfast was good. Guess you get what you pay for - and the hotel overall was cheap.

Review 88:The bed in room 206 was extremely uncomfortable for both of us, therefore we had little sleep.

Review 89:Breakfast was fantastic Staff were friendly, parking was good. WiFi was good.

Review 90:No coffee/tea making in rooms Got the impression when booked it was nearer the town centre.

Review 91:Very nice hotel. Bedrooms very spacious. Friendly staff. Good breakfast

Review 92:The bed was terrible both myself and my wife didn't get much sleep with the springs in your back. None of the electrical items in the room had a in date portable appliance sticker on them. The bar opening hours wasn't very good for a Saturday we was staying with friends in a different room and had to go to a local pub to meet up.

Review 93:Breakfast was good value for money. Friendly staff.

Review 94:Breakfast was very meat orientated and a bit greasy, but there was a lovely fruits salad on the Monday. Leisure facility needs up dating, I got stuck in the sauna as the door jammed, but a second panicked shove opened it!

Review 95:Lovely staff, clean and modern room, Parking available. Will stay again.

Review 96:•Bed was hard. •Bathroom needed updating. •Sloped ceiling hit our heads a few times (we aren't very tall either).

Review 97:Hotel was better than expected.

Review 98:Bed is not that comfortable and interior is out of date.

Review 99:Facilities are great for the price. Indoor pool and sauna are included. Breakfast is nice and tasty.

Review 100:Room tired and a bit run down. Bathroom ready for a refit. But all clean. Lack of fresh air due to window not opening.

Review 101:Great staff. Helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely. Nice bar area.

Review 102:The bed is worn out along with all the fixtures and fittings. It is in desperate need of a refit. No air con and no table fan. Too hot!

Review 103:The hotel location is good with just enough parking. Staff are pleasant. Room linen all clean along with the room itself.

Review 104:I called 3 prior to reduce my stay from 4 days to 3 days due to me not arriving until the next, providing ample time to change my reservation and I was told I would still be charge for 4 days. I did not have wifi in my room and had to sit in lobby everyday for access. I was completely dissatisfied with my stay.

Review 105:No air-conditioning. Not enough space in room. Needs a complete refurbishment.

Review 106:Plenty of free on-site parking. Near the railway station.. Great breakfasts.

Review 107:Hotel sandwiched between a busy road and a busy railway line. No air-conditioning.

Review 108:Good breakfast. Wide choice of items. Plenty of free on-site parking. Near the railway station.

Review 109:I had no problems during my stay.

Review 110:I stayed in a twin room with my four year old son, having travelled to attend my grandfather's funeral. The room was clean and presentable and had more than enough room for my son to play with his toy cars. The staff were all so kind and helpful to us, even getting some cereal for my son for his supper which I requested when we got back to the hotel after the funeral. When he was asleep I ordered room service which arrived quickly and was tasty. We enjoyed a really excellent breakfast both mornings. The lounge was spacious and we watched some tennis for a while and I used the wifi. I would definitely stay again. Thanks to all staff.

Review 111:Single beds could be larger. My wife hit her face on bedside table when turning to switch off alarm. End of table rather angular and she had swollen and black eye afterwards.

Review 112:Easygoing and enjoyable stay.

Review 113:The heat in the bedroom was unbearable with only 1 small window with a safety lock on so hardly any ventilation was possible and being 6ft3 with the eaves of the roof cutting the room in half it wasn't very easy to move about in the room :/

Review 114:Closeness to the centre of town

Review 115:Room did not have a hairdryer in the bathroom which was a shame. The WIFI did not work during our stay. Breakfast was a bit confusing due to the limited room and staff. The bain marie used to store hot items of food where awkward to use. You have no where to put the lid. You have to put the lid on other bain maries just to get your food. When having large queues of people this proves difficult. It would be better to invest in bain maries where the lid lifts up and you can close it again.

Review 116:Clean Room, had what we needed.

Review 117:No armchair - but in single rooms space is often limited.

Review 118:Cleanliness. Business-like but pleasant staff. Speedy reaction to a problem of heating in the room.

Review 119:Bath and bathroom put me off. The gymnasium didnt do anything to improve this opinion. The showers and cleanliness in general were poor. The water tepid which is dangerous at the best of times.

Review 120:Breakfast and personell were good but for London 0700 AM for breakfast is just too late. Getting anywhere in London means being out by 0630.

Review 121:Reception not very helpful or talkative. The exterior is in need of repair, which is a shame as the interior is lovely. Not well situated for walks etc. Food expensive but good!

Review 122:Room cleanliness & comfort. Restaurant/bar staff were lovely. Pool and sauna.

Review 123:The pool and change room areas were dirty. The showerheads were covered in limescale.

Review 124:Good breakfast and lovely breakfast staff, particularly the lady with the short blonde hair.

Review 125:Manager and staff were very polite and helpful. I was well informed about the local attraction and how to find them. The restaurant provided a good range of dishes. The items I chose were well cooked and presented.

Review 126:The bed was incredibly creaky, just sitting on it or placing bags on top the bed creaked and equaled. The room keycard didn't work the second time it was used even though we had only been booked into the room about an hour previous, however staff were very quick to sort this out and only took us a few extra minutes to get into our room so can't complain about that, just a little mention.

Review 127:Reception staff were incredibly helpful, polite and gave us a lovely welcome after travelling for such a long time, they took care of everything even though they were incredibly busy. Cleaning staff were also very lovely!

Review 128:Unfortunately a very uncomfortable bed and the room was hot so had to have the window open which was then a bit noisy with the road traffic but this did die down later on.

Review 129:Even though there was a problem with our booking in that the hotel had no record of it (booked through booking.com) the receptionist sorted the room immediately. We asked for a travel cot which was supplied. Very friendly staff, especially with our daughter.

Review 130:creaky bed! windows (2nd flr) cannot be open so air con only (noisy even on low fan level). Toilet seat had a small (pea sized) dried fluid mark on it that I cleaned. Bedding smelled a bit dusty. Room was not dusty. but bed sheets fragrance can be changed

Review 131:Attentive staff. good breakfast. flexible on checkout. room reasonably clean and well kept (2nd Flr).

Review 132:Windows in room too high. The bed was a bit hard for me. My only gripe was that the evening meal was very fatty.

Review 133:Room good size. Smiling, friendly and helpful service! Nice pool. Easy car parking. Good breakfast

Review 134:No teasmaid! No wifi in room. The place could do with a lick of paint and lightening up a bit. The food was ok,basic but tasty in a home cooked kind of way.

Review 135:Decent service, helpful staff

Review 136:Complex wifi setup, restaurant closed during the day (only open for breakfast & dinner), some front desk staff didn't quite know much about the hotel and facilities available for guest

Review 137:Sauna, indoor pool and the breakfast

Review 138:There was a function on and our room was directly above it!! We felt they should've pointed this out and maybe give our room to people who were at the function.

Review 139:Polite staff who let us check in early. Pool was lovely, perfect temperature in and out of the pool. Lovely shower.

Review 140:Found unsavory looking 'stuff' on quilt cover when turning it down before leaving Was going to inform receptionist but she was intent on moving on to next person so just left

Review 141:Staff and nice breakfast
