Reviews for Barnett Hill
Review 1:Breakfast only until 09.00 and until then the breakfast room was full of conference delegates
Review 2:Beautiful grounds in a lovely location. Comfortable hotel with good leisure facilities
Review 3:Bedrooms were adequate but not anything special so staying for one night was not a problem.
Review 4:Friendliness of staff and willingness to please. Ate in the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the high standard of food and price. Breakfast too was of good standard.
Review 5:Out of town , very good value for money compared to the bigger chain hotels . plenty of onsite parking with out the need to pay extra or needing a permit .Evening meal was excellent and plenty of choice at breakfast.
Review 6:The bed was small, uncomfortably soft, and only had a bedside table and lamp on one side. Hot water tap was scalding hot!
Review 7:Lovely old building in beautiful surroundings. Great room, excellent food, very helpful staff. Very Good value.
Review 8:Rooms were fine but compact, some public areas in adjoining building a bit tired.
Review 9:Friendly reception, staff helpful over disabled access, attractive location, interesting main building. Good breakfast.
Review 10:Walls or floor on number 37 a bit thin as had the pleasure of listening to someones call home at 23:30
Review 11:Good room, comfortable bed, quiet location. The breakfast is good, suasage stands the test. Gym well equipeed, bar and games rood well stocked. Good loocation, friendly staff.
Review 12:The room was cold until 3.30pm when the heating was turned on. Also at breakfast we were moved away from the window to make room for larger groups, but none came to take the place, the whole time we were there.
Review 13:Breakfast
Review 14:Room small and in furniture very tatty and too large for the room. One of the receptionist very unhelpful with a don't care attitude.
Review 15:The location of the hotel
Review 16:Shower wasn't that powerful and the room wasn't particularly sound proof so it was a tad disappointing but overall a very pleasant stay.
Review 17:Very comfy bed and a tasty breakfast. Location was great and the buildings were stunning.
Review 18:Full English breakfast was disappointingly average, despite being freshly cooked rather than from the hot buffet.
Review 19:Chosen for the geographic location but a stroll around the grounds in unusually warm November weather was beautiful. Lovely warm and clean room, linen and ensuite.
Review 20:Thought the room was abit small , didn't like how our mates were given a free upgrade which meant we would have had to pay £10 more for same room, argued with the receptionist before she allowed us the same cheaper rate ,marks on floor which looked like dog stains !
Review 21:Breakfast was good , plenty to choose from. Lovely grounds around hotel
Review 22:We really loved the place. The gardens are National Trust properties like and the building also. We had lovely breakfast in a very well decorated and cosy room with beautiful garden view. The room was comfortable. The staff is very kind and helpful.
Review 23:One of the barman in the bar wasn't particulary customer focused and didn't raise a smile, everything he did was just doing the job rather than serving a customer to his full capacity.
Review 24:The reception member of staff on our arrival was lovely and she was very helpful. The breakfast was very good standard and the location was excellent. The free extras on your way out are a first and on this basis i would stay here again.
Review 25:Peace and quiet - the rural location so close to Guildford was excellent. The restaurant (although choice was limited) provided an excellent evening meal at a very good price. The single room in the Stable Block was also very comfortable, if a little small. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 26:Limited amount of hot water and shower did not work properly.
Review 27:Perfect location for a weekend escape. Not easy to find with very narrow access road. The waiter at breakfast was very quick and helpful when we told him we had to leave early.
Review 28:bedroom in a separate block out of the main house which did not feel safe for a lone lady Walls very thin got woken up 2 am by nosy neighbour could hear him snoring and body functions which was very unpleasant could not get back to see. This would be somewhere I would not stay again Food was bland and tasteless
Review 29:lovely building and grounds
Review 30:an initial allocation to a dirty room then a small room with a carpark view, too far from Guilford to comfortably walk, hard to find, really a convention centre
Review 31:beautiful old mansion in park setting liked our third room
Review 32:far from any local amenities, pubs etc do not many other options for dinner. Food in restaurant poor, fish really salty and little choice
Review 33:Beautiful hotel and grounds in amazing setting
Review 34:The bedroom was a little on the small side and dinner was a bit expensive.
Review 35:We liked the grounds around the building and the fact that you grow your own food in the green house.
Review 36:It was very noisy from other guests. banging doors all night. Would not stay in that area of hotel again. Some people have no respect for others. No sleep that weekend. :(
Review 37:Beautiful hotel and grounds. Didn't like the walk back to room as it was dark and not very well lit.
Review 38:Hard to find , slow wifi had a evening meal which was not very good
Review 39:Lovely grounds and great old building very interesting place to stay good parking staff helpful excellent breakfast
Review 40:The interior is generally "tired". Carpets dirty. The staff uniforms are typically, one size too big! The room was tiny and the bed equally so, plus rock hard - one of my Top Ten worst in the world. Too many things have been done on the cheap and / or not maintained
Review 41:The grounds and building are wonderful and the staff friendly and helpful. Bedroom was spotless Breakfast is reasonable in terms of choice / quality, but not to rush out of bed for
Review 42:Our room had an en-suite bath with a hand-held shower attachment. The ceiling in the bathroom sloped above the bath and my husband and I found it difficult to negotiate (being older and less agile than we used to be!). We were advised that next time we booked we could specify a room with a shower.
Review 43:The hotel is very quiet at night, no road noise or noisy neighbours. The staff are very polite and most helpful. The grounds are magnificent and well worth a walk around. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and you can eat outside on the terrace if the weather is fine. The food in the restaurant was excellent and good value - 3 courses for £25. The bar sold draught beer - Hogs Back Brewery.
Review 44:We were in the Annexe (room 41). Near us the hotel "boiler" started approx 5:35'ish. Quite noisy and then constant "clicking" of pipes etc for about 20 mins. Would have been nice to be told our room was "in the annexe" and where that was within the hotel grounds.
Review 45:Position and surroundings were super.
Review 46:Both parties were disappointed with the very small double rooms we were allocated so complained to reception and were both moved to more spacious rooms without hesitation from staff.
Review 47:Convenient for charity bad at Hurtswood Polo Club.
Review 48:The grounds of the property were absolutely breathtaking. The room was quiet and comfortable. My only disappointment was not having a shower option. The bath tub was very nice but for a hotel option I prefer a shower or both..
Review 49:The room was tiny but probably normal by UK standards.
Review 50:The location is fabulous and the grounds are superb. My two dinners were very good with some flavor combinations that I hadn't tasted before (e.g. the sea bass).
Review 51:The room was rather small, and so was the bed, would have thought a king size would be standard these days. There was only one light working in the bathroom. The walls were very thin and we could hear our neighbours talking, hope we didn't disturb them.
Review 52:The hotel and grounds are lovely. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful.
Review 53:didnt like the fact that we have to go outside to our room if it was raining it would be worse also keep hitting my head on wall / ceiling
Review 54:Some staff was pleasant the food was good
Review 55:Whole experience was ruined by a worn out, uncomfortable bed. Terrible nights sleep.
Review 56:friendly staff, good breakfast, and amazing gardens I would have liked to spend more time exploring.
Review 57:We had two rooms in quad, we were not informed of the steep metal spiral stairs we would need to climb to assess one of these rooms and corridor with sloping roof that you had difficulty to walk down. Our room had not even full size double bed and it was against the wall so husband had to climb over me to get in and out of bed. Their was not room for bedside table and lamp but not even over head facilities to switch of light, so had to walk to switch and return to bed in the dark. I did not feel this room warrant same price as the other booked downstairs. I did not feel this room warranted any more but single occupancy. I had to report to reception that the games room had a whole in the wall and lots of mice droppings. This booking was to celebrate my parents 80th birthday and was very disappointed thank goodness they had not been given the upstairs room as they would never have climbed the spiral staircase.
Review 58:Main hotel and grounds were lovely
Review 59:No 'real ale' available in the bar on a busy Saturday night. No umbrellas provided for guests accommodated in the annexe to get to & from the main building in the rain.
Review 60:Lovely setting, lovely building. Good facilities, good food and friendly staff.
Review 61:a bit hard to locate the first time - does not appear in navigation programs (sygic, offline maps etc). But once you find it - everything is great
Review 62:Liked everything. Not a chain hotel- but in a really good way! Don't choose this hotel if you wish to be near the city center - but otherwise superb! Beautiful surroundings and a really nice place to experience English countryside with style
Review 63:A great hotel, the surrounding, beautiful gardens, lovely lunch, yummy cream tea, delicious diner, comfy bed and lovely breakfast. Staff were freindly and helpful.Would recommend...we forgot we were in Cranleigh. We cant wait to return as found our stay very relaxing.
Review 64:Only thing I didn't like was the very bright display on the digital clock/alarm which really did illuminate the room!
Review 65:Friendly and welcoming staff. The room was spacious and comfortable and fully equipped
Review 66:It wasn't explained when I booked would be in a cottage rather than the main hotel. Also big wedding booked for weekend and restaurant not available on Saturday again not advised on booking.
Review 67:Lovely position, grounds beautiful, staff very attentive, added addition of amazing gardens with plant sales (very reasonably priced). Great restaurant & bar both reasonably priced,
Review 68:Dreadfully inadequate shower and water pressure coming through it. In your endeavour to be ultra efficient with automatically locking room doors at 10.30 a.m. I was forced into wasting much time queuing at reception on three separate occasions to get the locking of the door lifted so I could recover my property, as even the receptionist had difficulty achieving that end. I therefore wasted precious time and was to my detriment late in getting away. I also suggest that at pressure times such as last Sunday, you have more than one poor receptionist on duty. It really doesn't do the Company's otherwise fine reputation a lot of good to stand in a lengthy queue of other disgruntled guests waiting at length to check out.
Review 69:Location and surrounding grounds in particular. Room 32 was excellent, well equipped and comfortable and as already indicated excellent breakfast with splendid staff especially Davide.
Review 70:We got to breakfast about 9 and found that the breakfast being buffet style was nearly all gone and staff were slow in topping up food and fruit juice
Review 71:The grounds are excellent
Review 72:This place was wonderful! The room was large and very comfortable, the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful and the breakfast was terrific. As a light sleeper, peace and quiet is very important to me and Barnett Hill was perfect, being in the middle of a large estate. I was even able to go for a lovely long walk without leaving the property. I would not hesitate to return if I'm in the area again in the future.
Review 73:Wrong room service meal delivered (granary bread when white requested) Room needed modernising, i.e. shower poor. Water supply disconnected for long period of time; this was an area fault not the property. Weak substitute - compensation could have been offered.
Review 74:Excellent breakfast with lots of variety and good quality food. Thank you
Review 75:Bed rather small for two large adults, cistern in bathroom faulty, not advised where to park.
Review 76:Food was good, staff friendly, bathroom huge, grounds beautiful.
Review 77:We were allocated outside the main building, in a courtyard, where the room was very basic and out-dated. I communicated with the hotel and asked if there were bathrobes and slippers provided. A lady on the phone said they usually don't provide those but will put a request for us. Someone else contacted me from the hotel later on to let us know there was a wedding taking place during our stay, I double checked then about the bathrobes and slippers, she said the request is made. On our arrival, the room was disappointing, and of course there were no bathrooms nor slippers. I told the receptionist that the request should have made for us - she was not of much help. Later on, she gave us slippers but no mention of bathrobes, we gave up.
Review 78:Wonderful grounds which are well maintained Dinner and breakfast were both satisfactory Waiting staff both at dinner and breakfast were very pleasant and helpful
Review 79:Room was tiny & shower appaling, phone in room did not work so had to use my mobile but no signal! Many residents could not find their rooms, maybe better signage?
Review 80:Very nice building Location for Guidlford Helpfulness of staff
Review 81:The only tiny glitch was the bed was not very comfy - having said that we stayed in 5 other hotels and b&b that week and none were as comfy as home!
Review 82:The staff were absolutely wonderful and everyone we talked to loved working there. We were late arriving (cycle touring) and the chef still cooked the most tasty and delicious meal. The gardens were stunning, the accommodation was great value and the breakfast room was delightful.
Review 83:Unfortunately there was no water supply during my stay. I was informed of this on check in and was told it would be back that evening which sadly wasn't the case. When I checked out the next day it was still cut off
Review 84:Bed terrible. Soft & noisy springs. Room small & a bit dark. Bathroom better. Bar was small & hot but we had our drinks on the lovely terrace. We had no water for over 24hrs. No shower couldn't flush toilet. Not hotel's problem but we only found out through another guest. No additional water offered or any help or information. Reduction made on bill after we complained.
Review 85:beautiful grounds. Good food. Friendly staff.
Review 86:cleanliness of the rooms could of been better. wouldnt want a room in the courtyard in winter as a walk to the main house for breakfast wouldnt be appetising.
Review 87:beautiful house and grounds, very peaceful. felt a bit like being at Downton
Review 88:Room was at top of very steep flight of stairs, and very small, but I did ask for quiet room which it was. Very noisy group of foreign visitors but not hotel's fault.
Review 89:location is stunning. Staff friendly. Lots of complimentary coffee, water, fruit, biscuits etc around the hotel. Free wifi and computers and printer to use.
Review 90:Rooms are a little dated, double bed was a small double. Breakfast sevice was a bit of a sham - buffet food disappeared as soon as it was brought out, they didn't seem prepared for the number of people at breakfast. Take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.
Review 91:Cost of drinks at bar was reasonable and the grounds are lovely.
Review 92:Nothing.
Review 93:Staff very friendly and helpful - obviously happy. Loved the gardens and met JB in your excellent plant nursery. Beautiful reception hall . Thank you
Review 94:Slightly too near the kitchens so could hear noise, especially in the morning. Could hear the muffled sounds of the people in the next room.
Review 95:Beautiful surroundings, quiet and peaceful. The hotel staff were brilliant ... very helpful and friendly, even though very busy.
Review 96:Bed to soft probably an old mattress. Room lovely aspects but a little dusty in certain areas. Some parts of hotel a little tired.
Review 97:Excellent staff. Beautiful grounds. Excellent breakfast. Free bottled water, biscuits and fruit. Having coffee outside with the free newspaper very indulgent.
Review 98:breakfast was ok except for the lack of brown bread; the bar and the room were relatively small and there was no drawing room to sit and relax in case of bad weather
Review 99:nice staff, excellent kitchen and beautiful venue
Review 100:Check out took way too long. At 9am, there was a queue of corporate people checking in and one lady on reception. It was very frustrating. Room 1 is near an external door and staff/store rooms so can be noisy. Had staff talking outside my door at 3 in the morning. Annoying.
Review 101:The location can't be beat. The building and grounds are stunning (as long as you don't mind sharing it with lots of suits on team building awaydays). Would def stay here again despite the annoyances.
Review 102:Kettle lead too short, had to stand it on the upturned paper basket to reach the power plug. Also the TV aerial was faulty, so no TV. View from window was poor.
Review 103:Breakfast was excellent. The grounds, gardens and woods were very beautiful, we delayed our depature in order to walk around.
Review 104:The standard of the room and bathroom is low and clinical at the attic story! The noise insulation and bathroom installation is also very low.
Review 105:The Location (House and Garden) is excellent?
Review 106:The Corporate feel, service, hot rooms: It was quite clear from the moment we arrived at reception, that this was very much a corporate/team building hotel. The first room we were given was full of flies, but the 2nd was fine. Both rooms for us and our children were boiling hot with noisy fans provided.
Review 107:The building and the grounds: Such beautifully maintained gardens and lawns. On the approach to the hotel was very promising, but once at reception, our hopes were slightly dashed. Bathrooms good - clearly money has been spent on these, but nowhere else.
Review 108:What a lovely place! The grounds are stunning, the staff are so kind and welcoming and when in the Guildford area, I would not consider staying anywhere else.
Review 109:We weren't overly impressed with the breakfast buffet. The hot food (although plentiful) was rather over-cooked and dried out and looked like the cheapest possible ingredients were used. We felt rather rushed by the staff who pounced the second we put our cutlery down - even though we'd not actually finished. There doesn't seem to be a comfy lounge available and we missed both that and a king sized bed - but maybe I am being picky!
Review 110:The setting, building and grounds are stunning, what a lovely building with an interesting history. You wouldn't know that you are only about 10 minutes from Guildford, it's really quiet. The games room was a nice distraction from an otherwise busy weekend.
Review 111:All of the larger first floor rooms were set up for conferences. It would be nice to have at least one living room in which we could gather. Maybe we missed it.
Review 112:We loved walking the grounds from one beautiful garden to another. All in full bloom in late May. The ensuite bedrooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was good.
Review 113:It needs some updating. There was a lot of staff around to be seen by us that should be kept somewhere else
Review 114:The gardens, the building. Very good service in the restaurant
Review 115:Nothing!!
Review 116:Third time at the Barnett Hill within a month and we couldn't have chosen a more peaceful location with friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, outstanding food and service.
Review 117:Stunning Victorian gardens, in immaculate condition, flowers bursting with color everywhere, lovely walks around the grounds. Quiet location, friendly relaxed staff, I was made to feel very welcome. My room was in the courtyard, the decor was a bit dated, but I was very happy with the room - it was very large and bright, with sunshine flooding the room. Very comfortable bed, warm at night (the gas radiators worked well). The room had everything you could need, hairdryer, tea, coffee, kettle, milk, biscuits. I slept really well due to the comfy bed and absolute quiet at night. Breakfast was very good, a buffet with eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit etc. and the price was superb, I will most definitely be back again soon, it felt like home :)
Review 118:The hotel was very clean, accommodating and suitable for all. There were couples with children and without. Well catered for all, lots of activities to engage in, within the hotel and on its large grounds too. The selection of food was spot on as I have a picky partner so cant fault them.
Review 119:more choices should have been offered for snacks in the bar extremley limited on first night for choices. ended up in their expensive resturant due to lack of food.
Review 120:the beautiful flowers outside and scenery
Review 121:The bed was very soft The breakfast was cold and not replenished The shower leaked The room upstairs woke us at just after 6am.
Review 122:The hotel and gardens was amazing. The evening receptionist was lovely and very helpful. The evening waiter was professional. The evening food was very well cooked and was lovely
Review 123:To improve the facilities the gym could be upgraded and in a bigger location.
Review 124:Location and setting was lovely and our room was very good for the price we paid and the bed was extremely comfortable so had a very good nights sleep. Breakfast was very good too. We only staid the 1 night as we were in the area for a family party. Will definitely go back to Barnett Hill for a longer stay.
Review 125:Wasn't many alternative options for dining other than the hotel however the food at the hotel was good.
Review 126:Lovely county house good for people who like walking and just generally want to relax.
Review 127:The pillows very not to comfy so it hampered me getting a good night's sleep
Review 128:It was very peaceful and picturesque. Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 129:There were no bad experiences, only good.
Review 130:Delightful area with accommodation in peaceful surroundings. The accommodation was laid out rather like a small apartment. The food was an unexpected bonus with high-class chef. Such friendly staff everywhere too.
Review 131:The bedroom was supposedly 'double', but was a queen bed, against the wall. The decor was shabby and tired. No mirror larger than a few inches in either the en suite or the bedroom itself
Review 132:The setting, the leisure facilities and the food
Review 133:The brown carpet in the annex could be changed for something that is cheerier and doesn't show scraps.
Review 134:The staff couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Though they were fully booked, they were able to work in two extra days for us. Efron, at breakfast, anticipated what we wanted for breakfast and had it ready before we could even request it!
Review 135:Set in besutiful peaceful surroundings, a very relaxed environment, staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Comfortable clean rooms, fantastic food and service. Great value for money. Welcoming of pets and assistance dogs.
Review 136:The service in the restaurant was a little slow as there was a very long wait from ordering to the food being delivered. A 45 minute wait from order for main to be served and a long gap to desert. Thee restaurant was not particularly busy, but when it arrived the food was very good and the dinning room staff were good.
Review 137:The building and grounds were fantastic. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 138:The room was a little small, and the bed wasn't as comfortable as I would have liked.
Review 139:The location and staff were excellent. I wasn't in the main building but in the courtyard where there was ample parking.
The Fine Print
