Reviews for Best Western Plus Cedar Court Harrogate
Review 1:Even though the hotel was far from full, they gave us room 101 which is next door to the public ground floor ladies loo. There was a xmas function on for 200 that night so the loos were in constant use till past 1.00am There was revelry till 4.00am, door alarm went off at around 1-1.30 am. Fire alarm at 8.30 pm. The restraunt did not have any plaice left at 8.30, Even worse my partners pie was hot outside, frozen in the middle. Their solution, take it back and cook it some more, bring it back 15 mins later after I had eaten my meal. Probably the worst hotel stay I have ever encountered in over 50 years of travel.
Review 2:Getting in my car and leaving the next morning!
Review 3:No undercover designated smoking area,
Review 4:booked in no hassle ,staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean & warm. Bed very comfortable . Very quiet.
Review 5:The room was too hot at times and the only way to cool it was opening the window but by doing this you could hear all the traffic.
Review 6:Short walk to town. Cleanliness.
Review 7:only 1 thing but it didn't spoil our stay, we booked a room which was suppose to have slippers and robes, they were not there.
Review 8:The location was excellent, the room was clean and airy and the breakfast was lovely with lots of choice. cannot wait to come back.
Review 9:We checked in at 2.30 but the room was not ready. Not your fault because we were not satisfied with the 1st room. But now running late me and my wife needed to shower and shave. No water went out unshaven and feeling rather scruffy. Toilet not flushed until our return later in the evening. Rather disappointing.
Review 10:The location, the young barman Olly most helpful.
Review 11:Comfortable and clean rooms.Great location for Harrogate. Good choice for breakfast. Excellent value for money. Very welcoming and tastefully decorated for Christmas!! Would stay again.
Review 12:I went with my boss at work and we often go away for business but by far this was the nicest hotel we have stayed in, plus with his dietary requirements they made it so enjoyable and a pleasure to stay. Thank you, please make sure you keep this service and standard as I know we will be back
Review 13:We booked for half board and the food was below standard, this complaint was put towards the manager who said he would tell the chef !!! and nothing else. The food was very poor and for a mature couple unacceptable. The queue for breakfast was very long as the management skills was not good. The toast machine had to use 4 times to brown the bread !!! sorry not good
Review 14:The room was very nice and comfortable and clean
Review 15:For a half empty hotel we couldn't understand why we had a back bedroom with a faulty bath plug such that we couldn't empty the bath . The cleaning staff advised us that they knew about the plug not working - so why put guests in it when there are plenty of rooms available ??. Breakfast coffee was at best lukewarm on both days - suggest the hotel use individual cafetieres rather than coffee pots filled up from a fast cooling urn . Nothing is worse than lukewarm tea or coffee first thing in the morning - very unwelcoming. Had difficulty controlling the heat in the room and even with it switched off and the window opened it was still excessively warm. Checked in Ok but not asked for my credit card so a drink at the bar couldn't be signed for as my credit account was not set up . Easily resolved but surely it is standard practice for hotels to ask for a credit card at signing in so that this sort of embarrassment doesn't occur .
Review 16:Great location with plenty of free parking spaces . Social rooms are large and well furnished . The front bedrooms overlooking the Stray are really good and worth aiming for . The back bedrooms are still Ok but without the view . Breakfast very good with a good choice .
Review 17:I stayed in this hotel between Christmas and New Year last year. I enjoyed it again this year, but it wasn't as good as last year. It was noisier and the food was not as good.
Review 18:This hotel is in an ideal location with free parking.
Review 19:Food staff was not trained in hotel work didn't no what there roll was food was cold and not cooked waiting to be serviced was arrendus
Review 20:Location was good place was clean
Review 21:the food !! we dined in the hotel restaurant, we wish we hadn't, the food was disappointing and not enough, we ordered steak it was so thin like paper with 3 baby roast potatoes he size of a 2 penny piece they were cut in half and displayed as a clock face, artistically pleasing but very very poor insofar as value for money, we would not eat there again we do stay in best westerns regularly, especially mount pleasant in Doncaster, which is far superior to the Harrogate hotel.
Review 22:the relaxed atmosphere and high level of customer service
Review 23:We had a spacious quiet room, and a very good breakfast, and it was lovely to sit in the bar lounge with a coffee on a sunny morning after all the rain over Christmas.
Review 24:There was nowhere under cover for smokers, just a table and 4 chairs out in the open
Review 25:The position of the hotel, the friendliness of the staff and willingness to please, apart from xmas eve when the beer was flat and the manager on duty didn't seem interested in rectifying it. The room was the basic room but was very roomy, clean and had good facilities and we were very happy with it. Breakfast was good and food in the bar really good.
Review 26:The beds in our room 332 were rickety and we feel need replacement.
Review 27:Great location, plenty of free parking, good breakfast, room size good and shower great.
Review 28:The receptionist who greeted me was not particularly friendly.
Review 29:Ease of booking, location, good sized car park and Comfortable room with feather pillows.
Review 30:Hotel was lacking in atmosphere and conversation from the staff. No children's menu in the bar, all low tables so not easy for eating at, food was pretty average
Review 31:Lovely looking hotel, Good location.
Review 32:breakfast,did not like sausages well under done.Did not like bar food, fish finger sandwich,to much mayo placed on i good not tasted fish fingers.Should be served in a dish seperatley
Review 33:nice location good staff.parking good, easy walking to town
Review 34:Being fobbed off with a room I didn't reserve! Had a skylight instead of a window and I could only see the sky! It was freezing in the room. Staff unhelpful after they messed up our booking
Review 35:Nicely laid out and comfortable in bar area, breakfast lovely
Review 36:Child bed wasn't in room as planned. First room smelled of wet dog. Requested different room with a child bed. Staff didn't seem to know what was going on.
Review 37:Upstairs corridors very disappointing when compared to decor of downstairs. Looks like office corridors not those of an hotel
Review 38:Friendly and helpful staff and room size was good. Breakfast very good value
Review 39:Nothing at all negative. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 40:Hotel lovely, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly from reception to bar staff to dining areas. All staff even when passing you always acknowledged you with a hello or morning afternoon. Nothing a problem for any of them.
Review 41:The staff. Husband left his wallet and after calling them they found it and we collected it on our return journey. Thank you so much. We very much appreciated their honesty.
Review 42:Decor a bit dated and could do reprinting ect. But otherwise very nice.
Review 43:The staff were very nice and friendly although was a busy check in and only one person on reception.
Review 44:Cold room, staff unfriendly at breakfast, iron spat out coloured water room like grand central station when someone walked past in corridor was like they were in your room! Breakfast felt like it was in a canteen - poached eggs arrived on soggy bread - bacon hard with soggy fat bits - sausages uncooked very disappointing. Sofas in bar ripped and looked like they need a good clean!
Review 45:Location
Review 46:All the staff that we had contact with were exellent and very professional. We were very impressed with the standard of our evening meal in the restaurant.
Review 47:Hotel managed to charge us twice for our room, when we phoned to try and resolve this staff on phone were quite unhelpful and very difficult to understand(foreign)....
Review 48:Location and price
Review 49:Inadequate lighting for reading / working and the chair was not the right height for the desk. I had particularly asked for a desk and lighting for working.
Review 50:Comfy bed and clean
Review 51:2 groups of business people made for a noisy evening meal in the bistro restaurant. This was no fault of the hotel.
Review 52:Polite staff. Well appointed room. Very good meal tho' portions too generous for us! Plenty of parking space & within easy walking distance of Harrogate centre.
Review 53:No hot water to have a shower in the morning, poor dinner in their brasserie the evening before and breakfast very poor and staff not very helpful at all
Review 54:Not a lot about this hotel, sorry
Review 55:Lovely staff comfortable room spacious but small bathroom but did not matter. Lounge area pleasant and welcoming location very good. Good nights sleep
Review 56:Very poor choice for breakfast no cold meats or cheese, also my husband had the egg, bacon etc. and said it was all stone cold (we weren't down late either). Would use the hotel again but have room only option next time as plenty of better places to eat nearby.
Review 57:Good location central to town, nice large room.
Review 58:I requested an extra bed as i was travelling with two children and it wasnt in the room. We arrived later than expected and then i had to go back down to reception as no one answered the phone when i rang and chase it up. We eventually got the extra bed but it took the member of staff about ten minutes to put the quilt in the cover. He arrived without a sheet for the bed and when he did arrive i told him id do it instead.
Review 59:The room was spacious
Review 60:The room that we booked was not a bigger sized room for our needs and smelt like a strong chemical smell which ook my breath away as I entered the room.
Review 61:I liked and enjoyed a relaxing drink in the bar lounge at the front of the hotel. The seats were comfy and the staff were freindly.
Review 62:The heating in my room was not working. I reported this to reception but apparently no action was taken. may have been difficult to repair at that time but some communication to that effect would have been welcome
Review 63:Staff were friendly and helpful... as always. Room was comfortable and well equipped. Food service and quality was excellent
Review 64:Couldn't find a switch to just put the standard lamp on its own for some subdued lighting - it appeared either very bright or dark - but not a big problem used the bedside light instead
Review 65:The Staff were very helpful nothing was to much trouble décor was really luxurious quality fixtures - Bath was lovely and large easy to use - we liked the touch of chocolate raisins/snacks etc and quality bottled local water
Review 66:double bedroom room booked, room looked a bit tired and we thought not value for the cost. Inside the hotel looked had rooms which required updating . Room next door to linen storage cupboard very noisy at 8.00 in morning.
Review 67:Location of hotel, Breakfast very good value
Review 68:Disappointed the room was not ready on arrival as we were later than our ETA but the receptionist was very professional giving us her apologies and sitting us down with a drink You can hear all people walking down the corridor so rooms could do with a bit more sound insulation
Review 69:Excellent location close to the centre with free parking
Review 70:Premises a little tired looking and in need of modernisation. Also more options needed for vegetarians at breakfast.
Review 71:Room was a good size, comfortable and clean. Good location close to the town centre. Breakfast was also nice.
Review 72:Extremely hot room, no where to alter temp. Filthy bath mat. Shower temp fluctuating. Harassing housekeeping. Snooty staff.
Review 73:Nothing.,.couldn't wait to leave.
Review 74:We would have appreciated an offer of help with our bags when we arrived. When we arrived at breakfast the first morning we were just shown to a table with no proper greeting or instructions so we had to find our own way around the food. Also the toaster was a little temperamental! Most of the information leaflets were behind the reception desk rather than in the holder provided in the reception area so we had to wait in the queue to ask for them.
Review 75:Most of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Everywhere was very clean and comfortable.
Review 76:Check in staff miserable hardly any eye contact. No offer to carry bags. She just went through the motions.
Review 77:Excellent room clean and well equipped. Check out staff friendly helpful and efficient.
Review 78:Breakfast was poor, some lights in room did not work, to far from town centre to walk, Hotel needs updating and it was overpriced for what it is. It could do with a Gym/pool etc
Review 79:Evening meal was excellent Parking easy and hotel was clean
Review 80:Room was very hot, even though there was no heating on. Car was covered in sap after parking in front car park. But hey, I'd rather be hot than cold & I should have not parked under a tree!!
Review 81:Everything!!
Review 82:NOT a bad experience but not too keen on the small dining room near the entrance.felt not up to the rest of hotel standard.
Review 83:Parking Easy Plenty of space We like large hotels
Review 84:Unpredictable and wildly variable shower temperature. Lack of sound insulation between adjoining rooms. Seating in restaurant directly under air conditioning outlet - uncomfortably cool. Had to ask for it to be switched off. Staff generally seemed a bit remote from customers.
Review 85:Convenient location for Harrogate and surrounding area. Comfortable room.
Review 86:We had difficulty finding the hotel from the directions given on the booking confirmation and the phone numberwas incorrect.
Review 87:We found the hptel suited our purposes very well.
Review 88:Nothing,all was great.
Review 89:First impression were great, staff very friendly and helpful.. Lovely hotel with great grounds..room was fantastic, very big and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, although pricey, you do get a lot for your money and variety is great.
Review 90:Our room wasn't ready when we arrived at 4.30pm, we were promised tea in the bar, none arrived. We had a bath in the room and the water wasn't hot enough and the next morning the same.
Review 91:When we arrived after an 8 hour drive we got told that the executive room that we had booked over a month previous had been allocated to someone else. We where put into a standard double but would be moved the following day if we so wished to. However we were offered free breakfast for their mistake.
Review 92:The location is fantastic just a 10 minute walk into town.
Review 93:Unfortunately the interior (rooms, hallways) in no way reflected the beautiful exterior of the building and the breakfast hall. Room was small and very ordinary.
Review 94:Very pleasant location, across from green parkland, although difficult to get into the property.
Review 95:We always check our hotel bill..... we found that we had been over charged for breakfast but this was immediately rectified by the staff member, well done. The room was nice but didn't feel it was value for money. The WiFi was complimentry but the signal was so poor in our room that it kept crashing or left us being unable to log in.
Review 96:A good location with plenty of parking at the front and to the rear of the hotel. This was handy as there was a wedding being held on the Saturday. Staff were friendly. The facilities were fine, to turn on bath/shower, a bit tricky but once u've mastered to get it dead centre it was good. Slightly pricey and would look for a hotel less expensive. At the right price we would stay again as overall an enjoyable stay.
Review 97:The bathroom is not like modern feelings in 2015 and small / impractical. The executive room is less ´grandeur´ than the roomname suggests. Although the reception and lounge look high quality like in previous years. The room does not give than feeling. Be prepared in special wishes for more senior and less-abled guests.
Review 98:The help of the ´technical´ employee Ben in keeping the room more fresh / less hot.
Review 99:No View although i know this sometimes cant be helped. Bathroom could have been cleaner although i dont like to complain or fuss when i get a hotel room, i assume its tip top. Quite bar and lounge in evening which reflects on todays growing prices in alcohol and beverages when peoples wages have not increased in over 7 year. It would make sense to lower prices and bring back them busy hotel bars in the evening with possibly some live or background Jazz.
Review 100:Friendleness and being able to aquire food later in the evening at affordable prices when paying for more than one person in your group. Comfy bed and relaxing room although not totally sound proof . Overall a pleasant stay
Review 101:Serious issues with breakfast we asked repeatedly for a gluten free breakfast and was assured there were options. This turned out not to be the case. No real effort was made to sort the issue out. I wouldn't mind them not having the option it's just the fact they had assured us it was ok before. The normal breakfast was average anyway I would advise going to a nice cafe in the town. The attitude of some staff members wasn't the most inviting. The room was not value for money. Only minor things wrong. But the issue is more that it was an expensive room listed as superior and it was mediocre.
Review 102:The location was great 5-10 min walk tk the centre and surrounded by parkland.
Review 103:The hotel is very aged, most of the light fittings were not working in the room and reception did not pick up the phone for about 5mins. Gave up trying to get new bulbs into the room. Fitness room door was jammed, could not lock the room after I was done. Equipment looked about 30-40 years old. Breakfast was disappointing, food did not taste fresh. The free wifi was speedtested at around 0.20MBPs, just about enough to view a few emails an hour. Not enough to browse the news etc.
Review 104:Bedroom was too warm no thermostat to turn down. Otherwise perfect
Review 105:We could only get 1 night it was so nice we would have liked longer so we will come back
Review 106:No happy medium in bed between heat from duvet and removal of duvet. Availability of a bed sheet would have been welcome. Noise from fairground on The Stray on night of 28 August until late kept us awake and thereafter the heat from duvet meant hardly any sleep for us.
Review 107:The décor and magnificent interior decoration of the main rooms. The view from the bedroom across The Stray. Friendliness of the staff.
Review 108:The location was excellent, not to far from the town centre, within easy walking distance. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Food excellent and nice lounge and bar area.
Review 109:The food was dreadful - the evening meal was tasteless and nothing like its description. B'fast was old, cold and overcooked despite us attending 10 minutes after service started. Hotel has contacted us to apologise and offered a free meal if we return
Review 110:Location was excellent and the building beautiful
Review 111:Outside seating facilities were totally inadequate and more thought should be applied to changing present system.
Review 112:Staff extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 113:Breakfast was very disappointing, fried eggs was very very small and overcooked, not what we were expecting from your hotel .too hot in the bedrooms
Review 114:Overall we were so dissapointed,so nothing in particular we just expected a better hotel for the price we paid £99 B&B per night ,we have stayed at other hotels in Harrogate and this is not the best sorry to say that,we but we were expecting so much more,my husband stayed here a few years ago and the memories are that its not the same.
Review 115:Poor quality of the breakfast
Review 116:Excellent location, spacious car park, very clean well equipped room, very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent brasserie.
Review 117:Only minor was the rooms was very warm
Review 118:Staff was excellent especially the bar staff , very accomedating for my 2 young boys Loved the grounds for our wedding photos
Review 119:Allocated room smelled awful but we were moved for 2nd night to a much improved family room. The hotel was tired a lot of rooms obviously need updating
Review 120:Staff VG 2nd night room excellent
Review 121:We arrived at 10.30 and let reception know we would check in later. The check in time was 2.30. We arrived back to check in after 4pm. We were then told only one room was ready and it wasn't ready until 4.30. This is unacceptable when the check in time is 2.30.
Review 122:Good location, nice hotel.
Review 123:I had no internet service for the entire stay of 2 days despite movingto the Bar/Lobby at the suggestion of the front desk. Other guestshad problems. The only ones with service were the ones who had paid 15gbp for priority access! Second problem was large number of bt OpenReach Vans & engineers staying at the hotel. I counted 14 in thefront car park each night. One parked so close I could not get in mydoor and had to climb over passenger seat. Suggestion to management youask large Vans & Coaches to park, drop off and pick up around theback which had a larger car park and you could allocate an area for themto minimise disturbing non bt and non coach party guests.
Review 124:Apart from the view of the Stray...nothing. I have stayed here beforeand was disappointed that the elegant good service hotel had disappearedunder the flagship of Best Western.
Review 125:We arrived for my sister's wedding on 14th Aug which was to be held at 3pm. My parents aged 84 & 86 had booked a disabled room which wasn't ready when we booked in. Neither was our's, or our son & daughter in law's. Fair enough we thought, when we were told they would be ready in 10 mins. Our's was, so we put my parents luggage in our room. After repeatedly asking when it would be ready, having been unable to relax with our friends & family I eventually asked the housekeeper when room 106 would be ready & he asked me pleasantly if I would like him to do it next - he was working his way down from the opposite end to my parents' room (odd, the disabled room being located right at the end of the ground floor with, incidentjy a bath with shower over whereas our's was first). The receptionist had done nothing to hasten the cleaning of their room. They eventually entered their room at 2.45 & had to rush to get to the ceremony in time for their daughter's wedding. This was quite stressful for them having to walk slowly with sticks anyway & no apology was made. The staff at reception made all the right sounds but in my opinion could have easily escalated the cleaning of the room but they could not be bothered to do so. Good job the food & surroundings were good.
Review 126:Location. Breakfast v gd. Nice building.
Review 127:Lovely twin room with plenty of space, even with the added bed for my daughter. The staff were excellent, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Great value too, just £75 per night.
Review 128:Not applicable
Review 129:Excellent from beginning to end. The room was superb, good value for money, bedding was clean & fresh. Bed was sooooo comfy! Tea/coffee facilities available in room Staff were all very pleasant & were more than willing to help with anything.
Review 130:The bed was a little uncomfortable and the fan in the bathroom was a little noisy, will try an executive room next time.
Review 131:The location of the hotel was easy to find and close to the town. The friendliness of the staff was excellent, even when there was a queue they did not rush you.
Review 132:The heat in rooms and corridors was uncomfortable a fan for room was given on request but was to weak and small to be much use
Review 133:Friendly Staff very helpful food in restaurant was very good breakfast was good Mercedes our bartender was very helpful friendly
Review 134:Room was too hot, no air conditioning in the rooms only in public areas. At a minimum fans should be provided during warm weather.
Review 135:Location. Spacious and pleasantly decorated room. Good bathroom and shower facilities
Review 136:Overheated corridors - why was the central heating on full blast in August? Bistro restaurant used for dinner - Food good but overpriced for portion sizes.
Review 137:Good quiet location, easy to find. Breakfast was excellent value for money.
Review 138:food--- pancakes and waffles cold, scrambled eggs much too salty.Filo pastry too dry also chickpea chips.
Review 139:location, friendly and helpful staff. My husband enjoyed his full English breakfasts and evening meals. I liked the fluffy bathrobe and slippers. Liked fact that it was only a short walk into town.
