Reviews for The Townhouse Hotel
Review 1:There's no official parking space, so you have to park across the road and have to either pay for parking or risk a fine if you don't move your car before 8am the next day. There's only a shower bath available, and not a full on shower.
Review 2:Good food, quaint. Good facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my stay!
Review 3:No parking should be mentioned heating wasn't on should have been checked tv had to be adjusted and plugs had hair in them which I cleared
Review 4:the heating was pit on once we complained. room was spacious
Review 5:The room was shabby considering the price paid, a curtain was hanging down letting light in, the furniture had been well used and the shower room wasn't a good standard either, think enthusiastic DIY fit. The pinnacle of our trip came in the morning at breakfast, pre-paid and dearer than if i'd paid on the day! It had been reheated in parts, not particularly satisfying and not in my view worth the money, i've eaten far better for half the money in a roadside cafe. Even that was topped off by the cabaret which was another guest (male) in a room in clear view of my seat at the breakfast table shaking his bits at the window of his room! I mentioned it to the staff and was told that it had happened before! I suggested a curtain or blind? It ain't rocket science! I have said all this to the hotel and got a reply which suggested that customer satisfaction wasn't their main concern.
Review 6:The location was good a very close to the town centre. The reception is clean tidy and chic looking. The bar area looks friendly enough but the prices are a shocker.
Review 7:Beautiful hotel, me and my partner had an extremely messy night out and the hotel catered to our needs including our late check out. Would recommend this hotel for the future. Thankyou for your patience :-)
Review 8:Extremely hot room and couldnt find way to nake it cooler even eith windiws open on a not very warm night end of october.
Review 9:Helpful stadf Very clean good decor
Review 10:When I arrived I had seen the room I booked being charged at a rate of nearly £40 less ... My first room had no 'lights' working in the bedroom so I was transferred to another room with not only a similar problem but curtains that didn't close properly because they'd 'derailed' and an ensuite that offered no blind to the massive window which was overlooked ... Obviously dissatisfied with the two rooms I decided to leave given they weren't providing an adequate room and they then charged my card !! I stayed at the Hilton instead that night , fuss free and a much bigger bed and room for the same money.
Review 11:Everything great, except a bit of a sour odour coming through our open window and when we looked out, the bins were below us and there was a bit of a mess on the ground.
Review 12:Room very comfortable and lovely sunny room. Facilities excellent and meals delicious. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Hotel close to everything we needed.
Review 13:The beds were very uncomfortable-single beds pushed together with lumpy springs ! Also the night light was vivid green and illuminated the room making sleep a challenge.
Review 14:noise from street revellers, bed not very comfortable
Review 15:good welcome to a genuine town house, clean and tidy room good selection of hot drinks in the room. welcoming staff
Review 16:shower leaked and clothes got soaked, radiator didn't work when I was trying to dry them. was made to sign agreement when checking in to say wouldn't take food into the room seems a bit over the top (do I get kicked out if I east a packet of crisps in the room?)
Review 17:room was nice spacious, decent quality furnishings
Review 18:The car parking is not simple. Bad smell of cooking in the room at breakfast and dinner. Upolstered chairs and carpet in the room badly stained. Curtains in the room need a serious update. Shower cubicle not fitted properly( door unstable ) why the central heating is switched on only during the week end ?
Review 19:Great location un town
Review 20:NO PARKING. The bathroom - poor temperature control on shower and radiator too hot to touch. The breakfast left a lot to be desired.
Review 21:Good location. Nice decor.
Review 22:The hotel is situated within walking distance of the Railway Stations. The Hotel was fine and clean and tastefully furnished. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 23:I found the staff a bit aloof and could have been much more welcoming. I also felt for the price that a welcome pack should have been provided - local map/local tourist attractions, which is standard in much cheaper hotels!! The hotel was a bit confusing to get around, as there was no signage for the breakfast/dining/garden area, which would be particularly useful for the more mature customer.
Review 24:Extremely clean and modern hotel rooms, great location - close to amenities.
Review 25:booked a double room with bath, as my husband as not long had a heart attack and operation, top floor and shower in the room was not ideal. our fault as we didn't explain fully to the staff.
Review 26:staff very friendly and breakfast was very good. room was very comfortable. ideal location for town centre//bus station. would stay again on our next trip there.
Review 27:Maidstone is not the most beautiful town of Kent..
Review 28:The people were extremely friendly. Hotel is in the centre, we could park our motorbike in Mongers garage across the street. We had superior room which was very comfortable.
Review 29:The furniture was shabby and the carpet was frayed around the edges all through the hotel. The noise from Sainsburys cooling system was constant , enough to drive you mad, couldn't wait to leave. Toilet was a macerator and was very noisy too even when you turned on a tap.... Won't be going back.
Review 30:Near to our destination for our special night out. Staff were all polite and charming at all times.
Review 31:The staff were very welcoming and the room was neatly prepared by arrival time (evening). The receptionist provided a note with Wifi, Door, password upon arrival making settling in easy.
Review 32:Breakfast was limited & pretty basic - crossaint would have been nice. Bathrooms were clean but not to same standard of finish as rooms. Location of room 2 quite noisy with bar & toilets nearby.
Review 33:The style of the room. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 34:The electric toilets in the old building are noisy but I understand a refit will happen. Don't let previous comments put you off.
Review 35:The staff were excellent. The à la carte restaurant food exceptional. A bit on the pricey side for this standard of hotel but they do offer cheaper options, which also looked good
Review 36:Very pleasant overall. It wasn't their fault that it was glass recycling at 5am!!
Review 37:Excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff - and happy! Multi-storey car park next door, £5 overnight - a special rate. Also some limited on street pay parking.
Review 38:Nothing. I liked it all. My only comment is that the hotel is getting a bit tatty in some places compared to my previous visits. It looks as if some areas could do with walls retouching/repainting, there was frayed carpet in my room . Just small housekeeping issues but these make a big difference to the feel of the place.
Review 39:Easy location, lovely property, nicely decorated, comfortable room but slightly basic. I have stayed in other rooms before, this was the most basic (for same price). I did book late though. I had a great dinner in the restaurant, very tasty , beautifully presented. good range of prices for food to suit all pockets.
Review 40:Wifi was quite slow, but OK. No vegetarian options offered on the menu for cooked breakfast. Shame there's no parking on property, but good arrangement with car park next door.
Review 41:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast was fine - nothing exciting, but everything you would expect
Review 42:I didn't like the service given at breakfast. Staff were distant and the buffet was often incomplete
Review 43:I liked the position of the hotel (close to the centre of maidstone) and the overall feel of the hotel - a townhouse with appropriate decoration. Good links with trains service
Review 44:1) Noisy, unsightly macerators on toilets - worried about disturbing other guests when flushing, was disturbed by other guests. 2) Sink taps turned both ways for water - one way for jet, one way for spray, Had to line-up tap perfectly to stop flow. Unfamiliar and surprisingly annoying. 3) No shower gel/shampoo was provided 4) Room decor was not to our tastes 5) Remote control for TV was very slow and temperamental (dying batteries?) 6) There was a ban on eating food from outside the premises in the room, which we thought was overly restrictive and inconvenient. 7) Hotel front door opens directly onto a busy pavement and street with no parking to unload bags.
Review 45:1) Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 46:Breakfast- firstly you pay for a hot breakfast. Thats not as clear as it could be when booking. I waited ten minutes to get a pot of tea- I waited ten minutes to order. I ordered Poached eggs hollandaise. They arrived (again ten minutes later) and were raw. Awful. Told the man at the desk as the waiter disappeared and wasn't seen again. He looked quite disinterested but said he would have a word with staff.
Review 47:The room was big enough, clean, and had a very spacious bathroom. Bed okay- could have done with a more comfy chair, but it was adequate.
Review 48:Wi-fi somewhat erratic.
Review 49:The family room was spacious - more like an apartment! Generous range of drinks - hot and cold in the room and super quality toiletries. Would definitely recommend.
Review 50:We were very disappointed by the fact that when we initially booked, it was only saying room + breakfast. It's only when we arrive at the hotel that we discovered that it was only a continental breakfast and that we had to pay an extra £5 for a full English breakfast. This was very misleading on booking.com part. Room was adequate but nothing special. the bed matrice was far too soft for our liking. We prefer firm bed matrice for better back support during sleep. Very noisy toilet shredder !! Very disappointing breakfast with cheap bread, cheap long life fruit juices served at room temperature, no fresh fruits, low quality cereals...
Review 51:good free wifi. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 52:The room I had this time was very cramped. More about layout of furniture than actual size. bathroom could do with a refresh but believe this is all in hand.
Review 53:Genuinely friendly, enthusiastic and helpful staff. great food - even sandwiches are special
Review 54:The breakfast was a big disappointment. Both regarding the food as well as the staff. We came in at 8:30 where the breakfast was 'served' until 9:30. At that time about half of the breakfast menu was not available anymore: no yoghurt, no pastries, no preserves ... just some toast and jam and cerials. When asked about this, the staff reacted as if they didn't really care. Worst breakfast ever! Regarding the room: when water was used, some kind of machine went on that made a insanely loud noise. Never heart anything like it. Oh, and the room was terribly hot. No fan or anything available.
Review 55:Room was OK. Bed was a bit small, but that was clear upfront.
Review 56:There's no air con and there were road works or building works drilling all night it was so noisy not a good nights sleep at all
Review 57:Rooms were gorgeous and staff were lovely
Review 58:Lots of steps with heavy suitcases.
Review 59:The hotel was easy to find and conveniently situated. Very friendly and helpful staff. They even offered to carry our suitcases upstairs for us.
Review 60:parking was a pain and breakfast was average. Shower was a little dirty, windows were sealed with paint and the one that wasn't was difficult to open.
Review 61:Lovely room
Review 62:Breakfast was lackluster. Everyone needs bacon.
Review 63:Comfortable bed, TV, free WiFi instantly connected, quiet nights sleep. Just a no hassle straight forward overnight stay.
Review 64:The only issue we had was that the double bed in our room was obviously two twin beds pushed together, making an uncomfortable ridge down the centre of the bed. Nothing major, just a bit of an annoyance really.
Review 65:Loved the location, it made wandering into the city for some shopping when our meetings finished early very easy. Really quiet even though it was close to the main road and we heard no noise from any other room either which was nice. We really liked that they exhibit local art work throughout the hotel as well, really unique and lovely touch and something nice to look at and talk about over breakfast.
Review 66:Very helpful charmin gentleman on reception. Hotel was not as picturesque or boutique as I had envisaged but according to some fellow guests apparently the food is incredible.
Review 67:Road noise , no parking , no bath , breakfast was very poor , decor needed up dating
Review 68:Staff were friendly , close proximity to our venue , good size rooms
Review 69:Breakfast starts a bit too late - 07:00 would be better. The morning receptionist was very slow at check out - I think he was covering for sickness leave.
Review 70:My room was above the kitchen and could smell food but wouldn't deter Me from staying again..
Review 71:People make an overnight stay and I can rate the staff 100% the Management should be proud of what they have achieved..
Review 72:Expensive drinks poor choice at breakfast on the continental range price should include full breakfast grubby in places ie grout in my shower was black in places and cobwebs on bottom of my curtains very close to my bed. Noisy at night I was disturbed more than once during the night. Staff were pleasant I had asked for Iron which I was told would be put in my room but it wasn't. All in all not very good value for money Next time I will try premier inn
Review 73:Quite pleasant decor
Review 74:Could not have any afternoon tea ie cake and cake or biscuits and cake so went out for meal instead. No fruit at breakfast
Review 75:Really comfortable room and bed Staff very helpful, corteous and friendly
Review 76:The only downfall was that the carpet had not been cleaned. There were bits of fluff and a peanut on the floor.
Review 77:Lovely looking room. tastefully furnished
Review 78:For the price I would have expected a much much higher quality of premisses. Woken throughout the night and early morning with the loud plumbing, TV was a poor (both the location and quality), fire door to the our floor was unpainted, exposed loft access stairs, restaurant menus were in plastic sleeves (making it feel like a greasy spoon menu), shower room although clear smelt damp, signs were printed, laminated taped to the wall (get proper signs), continental breakfast was a huge disappointment. All of these would be acceptable in a place that was £50-£60 a night hotel but for the price we paid not at all acceptable.
Review 79:Staff were pleasant and the place was tidy
Review 80:The bathrooms don't hit expectations of a boutique style hotel. I've stayed 3 times and none of the rooms have got the quality today's visitor expects. The wifi connection is a bit hit and miss
Review 81:Great welcome, genuinely friendly and helpful staff and the restaurant is really excellent - go, even if you are not staying overnight there
Review 82:I stayed here for one night with my wife as we were in town for a wedding. Despite the short stay, we were incredibly impressed with the hotel, particularly the service. We were greeted warmly and the staff dealt brilliantly with every request we had.
Review 83:Breakfast was slightly disappointing since was continental only (or pay more for cooked which seemed excessive given cost of room) and there wasn't very much choice. The food wasn't topped up either so you had to get in quick. Would have benefitted from some fresh fruit which didn't look like it had been there a long time. Wasn't too happy about parking on street but worked out OK in the end.
Review 84:Rooms are modern and comfortable with good range of drinks and decent beds and bathrooms. Staff are very welcoming.
Review 85:Bathroom a bit cold couldn't control towel rail to get it heated up.
Review 86:Bedroom stylishly decorated & comfy bed. Staff very friendly & helpful.
Review 87:The bathroom was very small, which is fine but the grouting in the shower cubicle needed attention as it had mould growing on it, which was off putting and the basin was badly cracked.
Review 88:Staff were really friendly and very helpful. Room was compact but comfortable with a neutral décor. Cooked breakfast was very good.
Review 89:Fittings and fixtures are falling off bathroom wall. No explanation of breakfast options on arrival. From 7 am there was banging and crashing from cleaners. The walls in our room was an awful choice of off mustard / custard. Horrid room and nothing like what was displayed on website. No free parking.
Review 90:Didn't really like much apart from the comfy bed.
Review 91:Restaurant. Breakfast is poor. Not wanting large variety of food, but some basics like a decent piece of bread or buns and some fruit are lacking. Dinner: pre-cooked meals from the microwave.
Review 92:Hotel, facilities, location OK
Review 93:My en-suite bathroom was cold and although attempts had been made to upgrade the building it was rather sad in parts, with worn carpets on the stairs and old-fashioned wallpaper in some areas.
Review 94:The hotel is in an attractive building and small enough to enable personal attention. The food in the restaurant is of high quality and much superior to that found in most budget hotels. The central location of the hotel was also very appealing.
Review 95:Service at Breakfast no offer of Toast we had to ask.. A comfy sofa in the room would have been nice.
Review 96:Size of the room The bed was Comfy The Bedding was nice
Review 97:The old building has single pane windows so room did get quite cold (but very comfy bed made up for it)
Review 98:Brillant staff, marvalous breakfast and handy location.
Review 99:We stayed on New Year's Eve. Of course we didn't expect a noise free night. The noise was not from people coming in the hotel. Between 2am and 4am the noise was like they were tidying up in the hotel. We only returned to the hotel just before 2am. I informed the hotel staff at check out but they didn't seem bothered. Also at breakfast the service was poor no one to greet you on arrival they were too busy having a chat at the front desk. Will not be staying again a travel lodge would have ensured a good night sleep for less money. You also have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. I think for £90 a night you should get a cooked breakfast. Disappointed with the hotel.
Review 100:Room was okay.
Review 101:Hotel position but can't be helped, nor lack of parking. Quite good arrangement with the local store car park. Suggest "Hi Guys" to pensioners is a bit inappropriate but person was very helpful and well mannered.
Review 102:Restaurant menu and presentation excellent. Staff very helpful, cheerful and well turned out. If we visited the area again would happily stay in hotel .
Review 103:whole place smelt of chip fat, we were sick all night as the stench in our room was so intense. Safety didn't appear great someone booting door in middle of the night, someone roaming around courtyard shouting middle of the night then someone creeping around outside my room... no sleep and no apology...I did not pay for my room was offered £10 discount ...joke!!
Review 104:location and quaint rooms
Review 105:No shaver socket
Review 106:This hotel is ideal for us when visiting Maidstone. It is personable, friendly and well kept. It has a central location and the room has most of the facilities we want, including wifi. The cooked breakfast was very fresh, high quality and cooked to order. We will stay at the Townhouse again and I don't think anything speaks better than that.
Review 107:Noisy - could not get to sleep due to the proximity of the room to the reception/bar area which also woke me in the morning. This is the second time I have staed her and was happy with the first visit. I will give it a third go. Breakfast was good but service poor with no milk, butter or sugar available. The tables were poorly prepared.
Review 108:No Carparking and Had to move my car twice and I got a parking ticket, Thank you Maidstone Council for the welcome!!
Review 109:The Staff went out of their way to make our stay welcoming and the food was great to.
Review 110:Wifi didn't work at all, connected but nothing worked. The carpet in the corridors was really dirty it definitely needs changing
Review 111:We stayed one night in the hotel, the room was quiet and comfortable and smelled nice, the staff was friendly and helpful
Review 112:Limited free parking meant that I ended up in a public car park further down the street. I got a £50 parking ticket as the machine wouldn't take my coins! Limited spaces wasn't mentioned on the hotel website.
Review 113:Rooms. Good and Staff. Cosy atmosphere. Great for lone travellers.
Review 114:No parking(parked at shopping mall, £8 overnight), poor wifi (slow/not working properly when I tried).
Review 115:Breakfast, room, staff, décor and location all good.
Review 116:Smell of cooking oil/fat in bar area in middle of afternoon. No shelving in bathroom Lack of privacy glass in bedroom windows. Lead for kettle tool short to reach wall socket. Wifi not working initially. Continental style breakfast horrible - no cold meat or cheese and no bread rolls just ghastly sweet pastries and soggy toast.
Review 117:Dinner menu fantastic, food wonderfully presented - art on a plate. Good quality fluffy towels. Friendly staff.
Review 118:View over sainsburys car park and a full rubbish skip. Decor (carpets inhallways) needs a bit if renewing.
Review 119:Small but pleasant room. Nice toiletries. Great cocktails in friendlybar. Good meal in restaurant in a relaxing atmosphere.
Review 120:The rooms are tiny and hot - even with the window open it was hot and stuffy
Review 121:The staff were lovely and friendly, and very helpful. The location is superb, just a couple of minutes from the town centre and 5-6 minutes walk from both Maidstone East and West stations.
Review 122:the hotel inspector would have field day, someone needs to go around with fresh eyes and correct a lot of little things, not that impact the visitor particularly but just to display a certain attention to detail that is lacking. like the safe in the room is still in its grubby cardboard packaging. not really inviting me to use it is it? everything about a hotel should be inviting.
Review 123:nice little hotel with delightful staff and great on site restaurant
Review 124:i travel a lot with work and this was the best room i have had in an hotel. The dinner i had in the restaurant was michelin star star standard. The staff were attentive without being overly attentive.
Review 125:There was quite a bright light on the smoke alarm and a couple of spotlights came on for a short time in the early morning.
Review 126:The hotel has been refurbished since I was here 2 years ago and is much improved. I stayed in one of the new rooms at the back - pretty much standard. Breakfast was well worth the extra £10.
Review 127:Double bed room and bathroom was very small. Lamps didn't work. Breakfast was good, however had to wait too long until order was taken and until we were served.
Review 128:Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. Location and overall impression was ok. Decoration of dining room was lovely.
Review 129:the room did not feel 'boutique', the toilet was smelly and noisy, there was no bath, the furniture was IKEA, the window was directly above the restaurant so I was disturbed every few minutes by clinking china and then the guests arrived so very noisy until midnight, for the same price one would be better in a bigger 4 star hotel with better design, comfort and quiet ...
Review 130:location
Review 131:No shampoo, condition or shower gel in the room until I asked for it, was told there was a supply problem. A bottle of shampoo & shower gel were left outside my room much later. Poor customer serviceI'm afraid, these lovely staff need training. Not offered a seat at breakfast, when I asked if we should go in the dining room & take a seat I was told "go for it" neither was I explained how breakfast at the hotel worked eg. "here's the cooked menu, help yourself to cereal & juice, would you like coffee or tea" we were left to get on with it which I was disappointed with. I was not offered a high chair. There was no phone in the room to call reception. Expensive at £150 for room only and had to pay for breakfast on top of this. I would have liked an iron & board in the room or a phone so that I could ask reception for one.
Review 132:The room was clean & looked newly refurbished. Decore was lovely throughout the hotel.
Review 133:Very noisy at night. Doors banging, keys rattling. Rooms not very sound proofed. Could hear toilets flushing, tvs and talking.
Review 134:Restaurant and bar area very nice and cosy. Food excellent. Room nice.
Review 135:overcharged in restaurant without an apology when this was questioned on settling the hotel bill following morning. Area a bit rough and lack of onsite parking with worry of need to move car from local pay and display car park by 8am not needed when on a break away.
Review 136:welcoming staff.
Review 137:Old building with no ventiation on the upper levels. Only an issue in very hot summer weather. to hot to sleep even...:-(
Review 138:Wonderful staff and great food
Review 139:As it was a hot evening we had the windows slightly open but being on the main road the recycling lorries were very noisy at 6:00 am so maybe next we would ask for a room at the back but this isn't the hotels fault and wasn't a major issue . The bathroom did have a slight sewage smell which was a bit off putting when we opened the bathroom door for the first time
Review 140:We chose this hotel as it was different to all of the big chain hotels we could of stayed in around this area . The room was nicely decorated in a boutique style.
