Reviews for Just B - St Elmo Cottage
Review 1:The bed was not very comfortable
Review 2:The location was great. Just a short stroll into town. The room was clean and well presented. It was cleaned each day.
Review 3:Could have done with a little microwave as there were no meals included. Not great access as lots of stairs to get to the room
Review 4:Bed was extremely comfortable. Very clean room. Lovely and warm.
Review 5:Parking can be tricky, but if you cant get a spot in town just use park and ride. Should you have any problem using stairs , this might not be the best place to stay, but if stairs are not a problem then would defiantly recommend.
Review 6:Excellent accommodation and location, would defiantly stay again. loads of good places to eat and drink, plenty of things to do for a long weekend, beautiful coastlines to walk.
Review 7:The shower is rather feeble; everything is very "compact" and the light switches by the bed are unhelpfully positioned
Review 8:The location is brilliant; Lorna, the boss is very caring - she drove out to find me as I couldn't find the property. It is all very sweet and charming and I had a lovely stay. Dartmouth is expensive, so it's reasonable value.
Review 9:The room was too small for our liking & not ideal for anyone with mobility problems due to the spiral staircase.
Review 10:This was a lovely little room but a bit too small for us. The bed was very comfy and to be fair there was everything you needed in a very compact space. Shower lovely although again very small. Liked the flowers & chocs on arrival. Excellent location.
Review 11:When speaking to the owner of the property as to my disappointment of the accommodation. I was greeted with a list of why I should be paying so much for her accommodation and would not accept my disappointment. I would suggest the accommodation is closer to budget rather than boutique. No goodwill gesture was offered.
Review 12:Little bit difficult to find upon first arrival.
Review 13:Modern room and bathroom. Very clean. Room had a fridge, tea, coffee etc. Fantastic location for the harbour and promenade.
Review 14:Hard to get parking close by. Thought that basic shower soap and shampoo and conditioner should be provided. Sign in bathroom said to use sanitary bags provide but none were provided
Review 15:Great location, easy walk to shops, restaurants and tourist ammenities
Review 16:We ran out of tea bags. Being older we drink lots of tea. I would take out the dressing table and put in a couple of chairs. Nowhere to sit.
Review 17:The room was just what it says clean modern smart. We were in the smallest room but this was not a problem. We parked in the square so had a short walk to and from the house. Dartmouth is a beautiful place with loads of eateries. We had an excellent time and would go back again
Review 18:owners/ staff not accessible when tried to contact them re our request (when we booked) for blankets not duvet (hot weather) - and they didn't leave blankets (we improvised). Also, VERY creaky floor above affecting our sleep re lots of walking around late night and 6ish in morning.
Review 19:good location, comfy bed, fridge
Review 20:nothing to dislike but if you are disabled a problem with steps. also be smart about parking. its fine if you anticipate where you will park
Review 21:Excellent facilities, modern decor, comfortable bed, fast wifi,
Review 22:Some shops expensive. If you meet friends from Park &ride it should be possible to buy a ticket to get to their car. Slight intermittent gas smell below balcony exit pipe.I forgot to tell owners. Micro wave would be great.
Review 23:Staff helpful re parking. We managed to use the market parking for the w end.Central location lovely buzz. locals v helpful friendly! Library treasure trail good fun it took us 3 hours with friends . Nice food in Cherub &floating bridge.Sea gulls happy to snatch you fish &chips!!! Staff kindly left a birthday card for my hubby. We were offered a bigger facility 2 bedroom. We didn't need the extra expense. Easy to talk to staff. Fore warned about fridge may be noisy but no problem. Seagulls were their usual noisy selves. No problem. Balcony was lovely gave a sense of more space. It faced the St Saviours church .Worth a visit. Met a wonderful older couple at Bay Ards cove .Regaled stories great fun.The one man boats to the castle were fun &full of local info. Thanks Pinocco! !!! Good meal in Normandy Arms.Excellent taxi service from Darren reasonably priced prompt & flexible &friendly. The boat to Torquay excellent commentary .
Review 24:very small, especially also bathroom and bed. room rate at the upper end considering that there is no breakfast or parking.
Review 25:great location, room nicely done and bright.
Review 26:The room although decorated nicely and clean was so small with a tiny bathroom i can imagine larger than average visitors would really struggle to use the shower. it seemed like we drew the short straw as all the other rooms looked larger with balconies. So if you are given the choice do not opt for room 3. The worse part was the severe lack of ventilation in the room, only one window opened slightly in the bedroom therefore you had to leave the bathroom door open to try and circulate air that way. We didnt want to spend any more time than necessary in the room because it was so stuffy and we struggled to breathe, infact we left the front door open most of the time to let air in, what didnt help is the heating was also left on (mid May) and we couldnt turn it off. we paid £160 for two nights of very uncomfortable sleep because there was no air in the room what so ever. A fan needs to be provided! Also as we had to leave the window open the noise from the pub opposite was pretty bad as there was a band on.
Review 27:the location was great, like all cottages in Dartmouth it was a quaint building
Review 28:Room 3 was very comfortable and furnished well but very small if you are going to spend much time there.
Review 29:Great location in Dartmouth. Parking a couple of streets away in free car park - but might be more difficult in peak holiday periods. Positive response from staff. Outside terrace space and small fridge in the room. Dartmouth has lots of lovely independent cafes and shops to while away the time in.
Review 30:No complaints, maybe breakfast but Al Fresco's just round corner.
Review 31:The whole thing, the room was lovely, loved the spiral staircase up to rooms. Clean, tidy and warm.
Review 32:The balcony is shared between three rooms and the room 'with balcony' is entered through the double doors straight into the bedroom...so if you like your privacy this could be a problem, especially if it's hot and you need the doors open. Also could be noisy if guests are sitting outside chatting etc. The problem we had was, in the details it said the room would be serviced daily to wash up coffee cups, empty bin etc. but this was non-existent for the three nights we were there. No loo rolls, no replacement of coffee, tea, milk etc., and bin was not emptied. The only time we saw anyone was at 7.30 in the evening, on the third night, after we sent a text to inform them that there was a bare wire on the flex of the iron. It was so badly kinked that the wires were poking through and one of them had split to expose the copper wire! The owner claimed she had not received the text and just came up to see if everything was ok. (7.30 at night?) Her reaction when we said we could have been electrocuted was, "Oh I will take that away then." and "We have a PAT test next week." Not much good to us! The worst thing was her complete lack of empathy and no apology. Her reason for the non service of our room was that she had been busy fibre-glassing a roof?! Obviously, at this time of year, there is sometimes some maintenance going on but door frames were painted..no signs. Cupboard door with cleaning stuff etc., outside our room was left open and unattended for several hours...so health and safety not a strong point. We also reported a broken manhole cover at the gated entrance, but no action was taken to replace or prevent people walking on it whilst we were there. It was the complete lack of 'good customer service' which was so disappointing. Looking back at one of their previous replies to a customers feedback (Simon, 20th March 2014) gives a good indication of their attitude to their guests.
Review 33:Initially, we were happy with the room and the location was very good although I would expect in high season, parking would be difficult.
Review 34:The people upstairs were very noisey through the night!! Keeping us awake. But thats no reflection to the property and location.
Review 35:Great location, great price, suited our needs.would highly recommend. Met by a very friendly and helpful staff member.
Review 36:Dartmouth has parking problem with expensive car-parking (although if clever get into Market Car park which is free!!). St Elmo is up a lot of steps so perhaps not so good for the elderly. The duvet provided was incredibly heavy although enough alternative bed-clothing. Basin in en-suite rather small for wet-shaving.
Review 37:Total peace and quiet despite location just off the main street and minutes away from the harbour. Room clean and functional, smart combination of long mirror with hanging facilities; standard drink-making facilties; plenty of towels. Iron and ironing board readily available. Small but very effective en-suite with very hot shower. Clever arrangement to collect key . Assistance available over the phone.
Review 38:Would have liked a king size bed. No window to open in the bedroom, only the 1 in the bathroom. No light as you walk up the path.
Review 39:location. Cleanliness. Value for money cheapest room we could find in the area.
Review 40:There was nothing i didnt like
Review 41:Great location..very pleasant with lots of nice people and places to eat and drink with great quirky shops..we liked our stay in dartmouth..
Review 42:the view of a poorly maintained property nearby; lack of privacy because of the shared access and being overlooked on all sides; noise of fridge; difficulties parking and loading/unloading; lots of stairs for accessing with luggage.
Review 43:The area, the room, the bed, the cleanliness
Review 44:Seagulls were very noisy so having windows open as it was very warm didn't help. So a fan would of been helpful for our unusually hot summer, to help keep cool in the night
Review 45:Clean room good to have somewhere to sit outside. Everything you needed even in the room.
Review 46:Very warm nights. No way to cool the room. A fan was needed The situation was made worse by opening the windows to create a draft from the bathroom to the front That meant the flying rats could be heard in full cry Two very disturbed nights We have them at home and could do without them on holiday
Review 47:Decent premises. Great location Good business concept. Would have been excellent but for the heat and avian problem mentioned elsewhere in this review
Review 48:Difficult to park in street below but not really a major issue if you are organised.
Review 49:Great place to stay near centre of this great town. St Elmo cottage is geared up for independent travelers who like a break from more managed properties ie they are staff free. However they are easily contactable and arranged a further day to extend our stay to 3 nights.
Review 50:Nothing!
Review 51:Wonderful place to stay! Loved the church bells waking us up on Sunday!
Review 52:Parking , really struggled to find some where
Review 53:Excellent location
Review 54:Steps to accommodaion very quite steep
Review 55:Excellent location, clean cimfortable well equiped accommodation
Review 56:Parking can be a problem
Review 57:Good location
Review 58:Room 3 is tiny and no way was it worth £80 without breakfast.
Review 59:Could do with soundproofing could hear other guests snoring. Cushions on bed were grubby.
Review 60:Location was good as central to Dartmouth.
Review 61:Central location, comfy if small, did what it promised, will definitely use the accommodation again
Review 62:Location and cleanliness and having proper coffee and lots of milk!
Review 63:- Really beautiful location - Elegant room with character - Good facilities and great information pack about the area
Review 64:No view but we didn't need one.
Review 65:Great location and the studio room provides a good chill out space

Review 87:location
Review 88:Space in studio - furnished terrace - superb location - brilliant value. We will be back
Review 89:Central location. Close to shops, restaurants, bars & harbour.
Review 90:having to sort out the code no as we were given the wrong number
Review 91:the seagulls!!
Review 92:room was very clean! just what we wanted! bed was nice! great place for the town! loved it!
Review 93:Instant coffee, non fresh milk
Review 94:Comfort mattress, daily service, location, no fuss
Review 95:Central locations minutes walk from centre, attractive cottage feel, easy to locate and access. Quiet location.
Review 96:A bit small, but ok for one night, very noisy sea gulls, but that is not the propery's fault
Review 97:modern stylish room, just off main street.
Review 98:Room a little compact but understandable in Dartmouth central location.
Review 99:Whole Just B concept excellent. Convenience, quality, location, facilities. Really liked the sound of the Just B team, great sense of humour just wished we could have met them in person.
Review 100:Maybe it is a good idea to have a separate bin in the room ( not just a bin in the bathroom). Bin is very much needed in both rooms usually... Hook on the back of the bathroom door would be very handy. As the space is so small, there is no place to put the towel in before going into the shower.
Review 101:Very very clean place with high quality linen and towels. Room had everything we needed and more ( little extra touches like chocolates on the bed were very much appreciated). Everything works, furniture is comfy, place is super clean and cozy-perfect. The things I have listed in "what didn't you like" column are just small suggestions. There was nothing during our stay I did not like. We'll come again and again soon. Great place.
Review 102:The climb for 2 70+ people was difficult and we didn't know about it in advance and the steps were not clean. the shower was so small we could hardly manage. We could hear neighbours, gulls and outside people as you warned in the literature.
Review 103:NO BATHROOOOOM!!!!!!!!! IT SAID EVEN ON THE FILE THAT THE STUDIO 4 HAS ACCESS TO A LARGE BATHROOM, WHICH IT DOESNT AND ONLY HAS A SHOWER.. THE BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT AS WE WERE REALLY EAGER FOR A BATH!!!
Review 104:Modern feel Open plan The Patio Very Clean and maintained Well furnished Very nice and friendly location
Review 105:Parking was a bit of a hassle but we were warned in advance and it wasn't an issue, just a nuisance.
Review 106:The cottage has character and we liked having two adjacent self-contained rooms (Rooms 2 & 3). Good standard of decoration, towels and linen. Proper showers and no issues with hot water etc. The fridge was an unexpected bonus. Proximity to shops and restaurants and freedom to do our own thing for breakfast. Appreciated the courtesy call before arrival.
Review 107:Full info regarding entry to property not received in time so unable to enter after very long drive. Had to leave 2 phone messages before owner deigned to respond with entry code. No mention on website of additional spiral staircase to rooms, on top of steep steps from street - very awkward with luggage. Also, the bed was made in peculiar way with pillow under the sheets - very uncomfortable.
Review 108:Room/bathroom looked good with nice furniture/fittings.
Review 109:Great location, great service, excellent facilities, what more can I say. I am sure that everyone would have the same pleasurable experience as I have had during my stay. Paul.
Review 110:The seagulls! but i guess thats part of being by the seaside? :o)
Review 111:Very friendly team, we stayed in Room 3 at St Elmo cottage one of their smaller rooms but adequate for what we needed and was the cheapest room we could find in the area. Location is superb, handy for everything! highly recommend.
Review 112:The bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever, too small for a couple andbecause it was memory type mattress, the mattress was permanentlycompressed on the outside and the middle had a hump.. And both of uskept rolling half off the bed on either side, legs rolling off etc..worst bed we've ever slept in! The shower stall filled up &flooded all over the floor. Even tho they fixed it later that day, itwas still another issue to contend with. The location was good &convenient, however the stairs up to the building were difficult withlarge suitcases & 2 bicycles. No Parking and No wifi was a majorproblem for us.. Since our work is internet based & one of us has aCdn phone, wifi is necessary to communicate with anybody. In our opinionthe room was far over priced, based on these negatives. Would we staythere again? If there was a new mattress, wifi & a bit of a betterprice.. Since parking is also an additional cost.
Review 113:The owner/manager was lovely & sweet. When we asked about afridge, or lack there of.. It was arriving a day later and she gave us acomplimentary bottle of wine. She was also very sweet & helpful withour bike issues, providing a spare tire tube. The private & sharedterrace are very pretty. The room was cozy & clean, yet much smallerthan we thought. It was a good location, walking distance to allrestaurants, marina etc.
Review 114:Nice room in the centre of Dartmouth . I liked the self service approach to the set up. Lots of places nearby for breakfast.
Review 115:Good location close to the town centre.
Review 116:Room got quite hot during the day!!!
Review 117:Great location
Review 118:No parking available, but we found a place nearby.
Review 119:Very good located to city center and harbor.
Review 120:Not enough towels also in need of a bath mat and some more wine glasses .
Review 121:We loved it all. great location fab style ,home from home
Review 122:lots of steps to room. unclear if we could use outside space.
Review 123:Location was brilliant.
Review 124:steep steps too location . shower is dangerous . no bin in room.
Review 125:room was nice and cosy. location was good for town,
