Reviews for Majestic Hotel - The Hotel Collection
Review 1:Only the wait for food to be served in the restaurant in the evening as the gap between courses left a lot to be desired. The staff apologised profusely and offered us a complimentary drink in the bar afterwards.
Review 2:The room and the friendliness of staff. The welcome when we arrived. The cleanliness of everywhere. Food was tasty and well presented in the evening restaurant. Warm and cosy (it was very cold outside). No pressure to do anything just chill out.
Review 3:Paying £8 for car parking! Room 109 - dated. Definitively in need of a make over, clean & friendly staff though. This Hotel reminded me of the horror film, 'The Shining' with Jack Nicholson. I imagined the little boy on his tricycle cycling down the dated corridor!!
Review 4:Location of Hotel. Friendly staff. The historic building.
Review 5:There was a mysterious noise in the night which disturbed me, but it may have been something to do with the raging storm that blew up that night.
Review 6:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the amenities such as the quality of the bedsheets, the pillows etc were excellent
Review 7:the only comment was that our room was quite dark could have done with a central light . Bathroom quite basic but clean.
Review 8:we thought the food was really nice & the staff extremely helpful.
Review 9:Our room was very small, only one bedside table and this was after we had been moved from an even smaller room with wallpaper on bathroom ceiling hanging off. Disappointed as we have had many happy visits.
Review 10:Close to town centre with ample parking. Spacious reception rooms. Waiting staff very. Good.
Review 11:The staff were great, very helpful and friendly. The rooms and guest areas were nicely decorated and clean. We didn't eat at the hotel as such as we attended a wedding who had outside caterers. The location was good and parking at £5 was also great.
Review 12:Our room was down graded before we even arrived and no courtesy phone call or email the next member of staff was the wine bloke I gave him 120 cash to cover the 117 bill and sed keep the change and walked away no reciept then he sed I was 20 short which I was sure I never made that mistake and on our departure we went to check out and was givin a 5.70 drinks charge which I paid cash althrough the nite so new the was no bill once asked jus what the drink was she then said straight away 'or it doesn't matter I carbt find the reciept ' make ur own mind up
Review 13:The hotel was really nice and very well situated and most members of staff really went out there way
Review 14:We were not happy with our room at first and the staff were incredibly helpful and let us change immediately. We were very pleased with the second room. Good location right where we wanted to be and very close to Lucia which is a lovely bar!
Review 15:Dated bathroom with rust and mold and bits missing such as toilet lid feet. Too few staff thus long queues for breakfast. Breakfast ran out of cereals. Dogs off leads within hotel. Evidence of previous water leaks in bedroom ceiling.
Review 16:Friendly staff. Close to town centre. Health club facilities. Corridors well decorated and all carpets in good condition.
Review 17:Check in was supposed to be from 3pm. Most people's rooms weren't available until after 4 pm. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. Rooms needs updating!
Review 18:The lady on reception was very welcoming, our room was huge & had many original features. The bed was comfortable & our room was spotlessly clean. The hotel is in a great location for the town centre.
Review 19:Checked in at 315. Didnt get my room ready until 530!!!! Had to queue for 15 minutes for breakfast. Had to queue to check out!! Room was very tired.
Review 20:Breakfast was good. After we queue for 15 minutes to get a seat!!!
Review 21:Dog friendly hotel important to us our dog is 80% blind and deaf.Harrogate is a lovely town.its a really nice hotel excellent location we shall return
Review 22:Receptionist was very rude and slow (waited 20 minutes in a queue of one person to get checked in), room pricing inconsistent (my dad booked the same type of room with breakfast on the same day as we did and paid £10 less than we paid for just a room.) She pointed out that we had booked a standard room so we were getting one of the "rubbish ones" but ours "isn't as bad" as some of the rooms she could have put us in, that booking.com doesn't get you the cheapest rooms at the their hotel and we could pay an extra £26 if we wanted breakfast - we declined and paid much less at bettys tea rooms. What a charmer she was. Room was very hot and the hotel is sadly very shabby now. I'd say it's an adequate 3* at best. Location is fab and pool is ok but very dirty especially the floor and Jacuzzi. Changing rooms absolutely freezing so had to get baby dressed after swimming in the pool area. Showers didn't get warm either so had to go back to room to wash. Be aware you have to pay for parking at £5 a day and our car was damaged whilst there. The hotel promised to call me back after checking for who did it but I've not heard a whisper from them yet. Windowframes were rotten and there was a lot of mould and damp in the bathroom although the sink was clean. They seem to have replaced the old furniture with cheap mdf furniture which makes the place quite sad and the general facilities are old and poorly kept sadly. The hotel is quite poor regarding accessibility. All entrances are up steps and although there are signs for disabled guests, we also need to navigate this with a pram and it was very difficult. The lift access is TINY so you may struggle if you have a larger wheelchair. We managed with our pram but it was a flap about. Truthfully I could have lived with the shabby hotel although it is wildly overpriced for what it is but the service from the receptionist was the big issue here. Very disappointed.
Review 23:Location was excellent and size of room was very good.
Review 24:The shower took 10/15 mins to get hot due to where we were in the building. We had breakfast brought to us in the room, no salt or pepper was provided & there was no sauce (ie red, brown etc).
Review 25:The building & its surroundings were lovely. Room was spacious & very comfey. Food - very nice, the meat was cooked to perfection.
Review 26:With all the foreigners working there it is not possible to have a laugh or ask about local attraction's, they don't have our sense of humour and I found it difficult to understand what they were saying, as did they trying to understand me.
Review 27:The food.
Review 28:no issues with the hotel.
Review 29:the hotel works well for a base for our conference. the pool is a bonus after a day sitting in the lectures. Plus I Adore the massively handsome Grandfather clock on the stairs!
Review 30:The bedroom room was nicely decorated. However, the curtains in bedroom where ripped. And bathroom toilet enamel was badly scratched due to age. Pool changing rooms were a little tired.
Review 31:Great location for Harrogate town centre. Pool and Jacuzzi were great for relaxing. Breakfast buffet was good.
Review 32:My confusion about the parking charges - signs all over saying to pay at a machine inside, barriers which seem to open to let everyone in and out without any validation, eventually finding that the charge would be added to my bill.
Review 33:The building, ambience and décor. A great location near the centre of town. The guy managing the breakfast room was outstanding. Significantly discounted price.
Review 34:They had a function at the hotel so in our room its was very noisy until 1am i tried to call down to reception at 11.20pm but no-one answered so had to go to reception which entailed getting out the lift to be greeted by a noisy gathering as their bar was next to the lift!! even thought the phone was not being answered there was 3 staff at the desk and no-one but me there, nothing they could done about the noise for the cost of £130 a night i had no sleep until the the function finished at 1am then banging of doors for another 2 hours as the party guess went to their rooms!! poor thought as to where guests where placed when a major function was taking place, general manager was of no use at all didn't seen that bothered. Shower in room was poor couldn't get it have a medium temp far too hot.
Review 35:Location
Review 36:The hot water for the bath and shower was not hot but luke warm in my room, not good when you want. Hot soak.
Review 37:The staff were so lovely and accommodating. The food in the restaurant was excellent! The night shift manager was wonderful, friendly and efficient.
Review 38:Our room had seen better days but it is a very old hotel so it is to be expected .The room was clean and warm though and there was plenty of hot water.
Review 39:The hotel was very nice the food was lovely and the service was excellent
Review 40:Double rooms need updating.
Review 41:We ended up satying in a premier room and the double rooms were way too small, very dated and very dark furnature. Would stay in a premier room again.
Review 42:Nothing to dislike
Review 43:Huge room, very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location. Had dinner in the restaurant and it was the best meal we have had out for a long time. At £25 per head for three courses it was also excellent value. Can't wait to go again.
Review 44:My sister was in a wheelchair and there was no access to the Regency bar there were 5 steps up to bar! Also one of the lifts was very small scraped the wheelchair on both sides to get into the lift then quite tight once inside. Couldn't understand this for such a huge hotel. Overall I felt the hotel was a bit tired looking.
Review 45:Staff polite and helpful
Review 46:Its a very old hotel and the rooms show it. The room was very cold and only one radiator in the room. There was paint peeling off the wall next to the window. I went to reception and asked for a heater and some extra blankets - neither arrived. We ordered breakfast in bed and we were a little disappointed in the presentation of the breakfast to say it is a 4 star hotel. No bottled water in the room.
Review 47:Great location, ideal for visiting Harrogate. The staff in the bar were very friendly and the food we ordered in the bar was excellent.
Review 48:It was discovered that it was poor value for money our booking through booking.com and we would have obtained a much better deal if we had contacted the hotel ourselves, especially for the single room which we needed as there were 5 of us.
Review 49:Hotel was very handy for the conference centre and shops. Staff were lovely, the rooms were fine although the single room was small and of need of tlc. Overall we had a good time.
Review 50:paying for car park. cigarette holders out front overflowing, therefore people throwing on the ground. one bar never opened all weekend, what is the point of having it?? shower was hot and cold
Review 51:breakfast good, treatment rooms and girls nice.
Review 52:I feel the as a guest hotel parking should be free. Some non guests appeared not to be charged for parking. There was also a lot of noise from the next room.
Review 53:The location of the hotel was perfect. Breakfasts were very good.
Review 54:Very tired in every department. Decoration badly done and messy. Room was very dated and poorly furnished. Balcony filthy with grass and weeds growing. Lifts to floors are tiny and old. Breakfast barely warm and delivery of replenishment food was slow. Staff served themselves first in back rooms. Bars had no atmosphere.
Review 55:Good convenient location for town center. Spacious room. Reasonable parking price and helpful staff.
Review 56:Felt the hotel was expensive for what it was and would have liked to have been offered a dinner bead and breakfast rate.
Review 57:Warm comfortable room with plenty of space and storage so I could work in the evening.
Review 58:Booked twin room, was allocated a single room at check in without being told, so only once I got to the room did I discover this... I had to ask for a reduction in the rate, despite is being only a single room and had reserved twin. Felt this was an underhanded money grabbing tactic. Queue for check in, queue for breakfast, queue for check out (thus late for business appointment). Drunken guest running up & down corridors until 1am, no staff to deal with this, terrible nights sleep on a very springy and soft mattress Bathroom was tiny Tea in the room was not Yorkshire tea (this hotel is in Harrogate!)
Review 59:The breakfast was reasonable and the breakfast staff friendly and helpful if a little rushed. Room service was ok
Review 60:The room we were allocated was terrible, the beds were beyond uncomfortable, they had some thin quilts on and when I complained another one was added, I complained again and a board was put on the mattress. Far too uncomfortable for a decent nights sleep and we both ended up sleeping on the floor. After complaining again we were given another room and a partial refund. However, the staff must have been aware how bad the beds were and I find it astonishing that they were allocated to anyone. For a hotel of your calibre it is very poor indeed. Very disappointing!!
Review 61:The staff were great. If you want photos of the beds we have them.
Review 62:On the first night my main course arrived cold and had to be sent back, I also felt that the portions were small for the cost of the meal. for the remainder of our stay we opted to eat out at locally were we got better portions for in some cases half the cost.
Review 63:We had our dinner in the large function room. Sadly the sound system didn't work at the back of room so we couldnt hear anything of the entertainment
Review 64:Without exception the staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 65:Beautiful hotel, great location, great food and helpful staff. We watched them cope in the restaurant when a party of 25 became 40. The guests were of the complaining sort and were pushing for faster service but they weren't organised themselves and were trying hard to get up the nose of the staff as a result. The staff took it on the chin and got on with things. The restaurant manager sorted things out for them, unfortunately having a go at the member of staff who was the most helpful so she didn't deserve it.
Review 66:The room was a little tired but clean, lots of sockets and totally fit for purpose.
Review 67:This hotel lives up to its name at first impressions and it felt welcoming. The staff were friendly and efficient too. I really cannot fault the hotel except to say the room seemed a little tired. But for the price it was good value. Breakfast was really good - lots of choice, friendly and efficient staff and large time slot to give you a lie in if you need it.
Review 68:Staff in the restaurant at breakfast. Said that it was £14.95 for everything on the menu then said it was an additional fee for eggs benedict yet it stated the supplement was only for those with breakfast included. We didn't revisit the restaurant for breakfast on the second day. The spa on the Internet makes it look large but limited slots.
Review 69:The location was great.
Review 70:The staff were polite and helpful on both check in and out. The room was better than expected. Breakfast was well presented and of a high quality. There was plenty of choice.
Review 71:The room was a bit pokey and bit old-fashioned. Queuing for breakfast
Review 72:Dinner - one of the best meals I have had. The ambience. The staff are terrific.
Review 73:The hot water in the room was not very reliable and i couldn't control the heating.
Review 74:I loved the pool and the fact that it stayed open so late in the evening. This was the reason i chose The Majestic. I also loved the facial i had in the morning.
Review 75:Some of the decor was tired especially in our room. Bed a little uncomfortable. Heating in room difficult to control. Hot water or heating pipe noisey throughout the night
Review 76:Location Polite stagg
Review 77:The pool and that sauna were disappointing. The pool felt oppressive and was unable to share the sauna with my husband. We didn't spend long in there.
Review 78:The ambiance of the hotel and it's history. A beautiful building.
Review 79:Where to start??? Completely dated decor - room pictures on booking had nothing to do with the room we stayed the night. Smelly bedroom... No way this was worth what they charged for that room (£150 for 1 night). Noisy (but really noisy) plumbing system, woke up 3 times with next door or floor above flushing the toilet/using water or something. Really disappointed with overall condition of this hotel.
Review 80:Location is spot on. And they refunded 50% after complaints on check out.
Review 81:only one bar open, the second bar should have been open as it was warmer, cold in public areas. the evening meal was not good value, chips hard and steaks poor quality.
Review 82:position was very good and breakfast was good. Room had a nice view.
Review 83:The bedroom was shabby and in particular the bathroom was, it seemed in a state of disrepair.
Review 84:The entrance to the hotel is beautiful, but the rest of the hotel very disappointing.
Review 85:The rooms were nothing like the ones shown on this website. Outdated, Dirty(mould) and scaffolding outside window Pool was cold and full of sand.
Review 86:Good location and polite staff
Review 87:Cobwebs on ceiling ( very high ceilings ) and black mould around bath of room 105 . Also hot cold end thing missing off sink tap and big dead crane fly in lamp .not a nice view
Review 88:Spacious bedroom and bathroom with plenty of storage . Breakfast nice .
Review 89:Breakfast felt a little disorganized and whilst i appreciate that breakfast can be extremely busy, i felt we were rushed to an un laid table we were then just left and forgotten about.
Review 90:I loved the grandeur of the hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and we were made to feel welcome. The hotel's facilities were of a good standard and the grounds were very well kept.
Review 91:As always the breakfast service was a mess with items not being replenished One of the staff advised me and another customer that they would not be bringing more food out even though service had 40 minutes to run then mumbled something about staff breaks ?? Anyway as he saw more people coming in he thought better of it and 20 minutes later thee were eggs and bacon though no mushroom, beans or tomato
Review 92:Party of four of us.We love this hotel and have stayed several times. Perfect location for the International centre and the theatres, restaurants, etc
Review 93:I was placed in a disabled room, one member of staff was rather rude, and I found we didn't have any bottles of water in the room.
Review 94:How clean the room was, how friendly and helpful the majority of the staff were, how nice breakfast was. How the corridor was wallpapered.
Review 95:the hotel has obviously seen better days, the decor was old fashioned and everything looked very tired and dated, we had scaffolding outside our window, crumbling paintwork and stained furnishings, very poor
Review 96:very nice town, hotel was close to town
Review 97:Black mould around shower tray, and bath outlets. One lift not working. was also told Sauna and Swimming pool out of action. Rip off bar drinks
Review 98:Comfortable bed, good shower
Review 99:Swim pool was closed for work when we stayed -- looked nice tho..... Evening meal was very reasonably priced - but a bit weird .....
Review 100:Amazing vast rooms. Soooo comfortable and elegant. Very close to town. Amazing gardens surrounding hotel. Very peacefull with super comfy beds.
Review 101:The room was a very awkward shape and layout. The double bed was pushed up against a wall so only one of us could easily get out of bed. There was no room to have the cot beside the bed without blocking the exit/narrow path to the toilet. It also had a step inside the room which was awkward with a pram. I suspect we were put in an old room at the end of a corridor because we had a baby with us. The bathroom also felt very dated with very grimy tiles. Not what you'd expect for over £125 a night! We did happen to see some other rooms as they were being cleaned which looked much more modern and spacious. If the hotel continue to use these type rooms I'd suggest they offer a big discount on them as they are by no means up to scratch for full price.
Review 102:Enjoyed taking our little boy for his first swim in the pool. The hotel grounds and grand exterior are also lovely.
Review 103:The rooms are bigger than those of most hotels at this price and the whole building had a spacious feel to it. It was good to have traditional armchairs and desk in the room.
Review 104:An extremely tired hotel that needs huge investment, wouldn't class as 4-star, extra charges of £5 per night for car parking, also £5 for an ice bucket Staff surly at best, not very customer friendly
Review 105:Location to town centre is great Breakfast was good.
Review 106:had to change rooms as builders were outside first room, rooms were not that clean, pool was out of use for the duration, internet was intermittent as they were having problems, bar was closed at night
Review 107:good location
Review 108:No negative points scored.
Review 109:Splendid Victorian hotel in central Harrogate ; glorious function rooms and comfortable bedrooms. The "back" of the building reminded me of a old Victorian hospital, whilst the front facade does the Majestic bit. Situated in reasonable, spacious grounds, it's handy for the town centre once you get your bearings. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Didn't do breakfast in the hotel ; opting for the standard Betty's Tearooms instead - had to be done. The hotel has been kept in reasonably good condition and presumably bolstered by annual conferences held in the locale.
Review 110:The rooms were awful and in need of serious repair. After complaining we got moved to a more modern room..obviously trying to fob people off with the run down rooms first. Even then it wasn't clean and not comfortable at all
Review 111:Staff were very helpful
Review 112:Breakfast was fab, but watch your hands on the sides where it is being served as there is no signs to say you will be burnt if you touch/lean on it!!!!
Review 113:It's a very grand building, that is a little tired looking in some areas. But on the whole lovely. All the staff were nice and helpful. Room size was good for a twin.
Review 114:The bathroom was really run down. Crack in sink and cracks on back of the door. Carpet on stairwell old and worn and held together with sellotape in places!
Review 115:The service of the food it was cold. and it took a long time to come to the room. reception didn't answer our calls as well as room service.
Review 116:Getting woke up at 4am due to the fire alarm going off due to someone leaving a hairdryer on in the spa. But at least the alarm worked and it was better to be safe than sorry although a bit in convenient.
Review 117:The customer service was very good and the meals we had were really nice.
Review 118:Stayed in a fantastic room a few years ago. Booked the same standard room this time through booking.com and we were given a horrid room in dire need of modernisation. Water stains on curtains, paint peeling off walls & ceiling, depressing wallpaper & a bathroom that was 100 years out of date.
Review 119:The breakfast was good
Review 120:Could hear some noise between rooms but not intrusive. Wi Fi was problematic upstairs - virtually nil reception. Part of the side of the bathroom door looked like someone had just stopped painting it and didn't want to carry on, but wasn't planning on staying in a hotel room to stare at a door. Builders who were doing something to the car park on the Health Club side started drilling about 7.00am which didn't help. One reception staff member (possibly American but she didn't speak enough for me to work it out) didn't bother to come to the desk to deal with a question and conducted the conversation from about 12 feet away. Its an old hotel so a few squeaky pipes is to be expected.
Review 121:Don't believe all you might read about this hotel. I was cautious when I read some of the reviews on here, but most of the hotel is typical Victoria splendour, chandeliers, stained glass windows up the staircase, thick carpets and spacious. Room was up on the fourth floor; bathroom almost bigger than the bedroom with plenty of walking space and water was always hot with good pressure but not scorching. Single bedroom enough space for one person as I was there on business and not sitting in the room all day. Excellent central location with 5 minutes walk to the Harrogate International Centre and into the main town. Lots of well laid out parking even with some building work going on in the health club area that took some spaces up. Even at £5 a night the parking is cheaper than anywhere else I could find. Breakfast on the 2 days I had it was well organised, hot, fruit was fresh and plenty of room in the dining room; staff efficient, attentive and enough in numbers to cope on the Saturday that was really quite busy, in particular Amrita (I think, not sure about spelling - apologies) . Megan on reception was welcoming and helpful. No real noise issues and WiFi was fine as long as you were downstairs. Would stay again if I come back to Harrogate.
Review 122:The hot water takes ages to come (around 15 mins) so a massive waste of water. The décor is dated and paint is peeling from the ceilings though it does not look unclean just a bit tatty .
Review 123:The room was spacious with an extra single bedroom which was useful to get ready in while my husband watched the F1 on the TV
Review 124:How noisy it was. We had to keep the windows opened regards how hot the room was. But the first night we were kept awake by a domestic close to the hotel . Plus we were close to the front of the hotel so heard lots of coming and going.
Review 125:The pool area with available seating to relax
Review 126:Check in was a joke ...lots of angy customers but staff didn't seem concerned there excuse 'check in was AFTER 3! At 4pm lots of us weren't checked in..one young couple who were late for a wedding were advised to use the changing rooms in the pool changing room! My sons room had several flys flying abt - when I looked out the window there were remnants of someone's sick ,could even see that they had beans for breakfast ..disgusting ..also windows and frames were filthy room
Review 127:1 room was cosy and satisfactory cleaned .... Lovely breakfast everything u could think of
Review 128:The main parts of the building are very well maintained, the room we stayed in was not - damp stains on ceiling, peeling wallpaper, a radiator with cracked and peeling paint, an anti slip rubber bathmat with mould underneath. They also charged £5 for parking even though that was not mentioned on booking
Review 129:The location
Review 130:Bad parking facilities. The hotel was very expensive for the quality of the room i was given which was slightly noisy. The bathroom was tiny and shower pressure was none existent and the shower mat had mold on it.
Review 131:Great location and nice gardens. The hotel has a very grand feel about it.
Review 132:Although our room was ready on arrival alot of our wedding party couldnot check in and had no room key until we arrived back from ourwedding party at allerton castle so therefore had to check in at12.30pm. There were mix up with rooms one of our party were even toldtheir room had been cancelled due to a flood??? Another was told thereroom had a hole in the ceiling but no rain was coming through andgiven £50 off as there were no other rooms available. It didn'tspoil the day but I've never stayed in a hotel with so many mixups....and my opinion overall is the hotel looks impressive fromoutside but has a tired feel and needs updating inside...in thebreakfast room there was a broken window hanging on for dear life andit's such a shame felt like the interior in certain areas needsalot of attention. Both of my sons had to use my room to change intowedding suits and were not given or allocated their rooms till wearrived back but still charged full price which we paid but thoughtrather unacceptable given the circumstances of our stay. Wouldn'trush to stay again ....much nicer places in the area. This is anhonest opinion and although my room was okay the rest of our weddingparties wasn'T....so I'm basing my review on that.
Review 133:We had a larger room than others in our party....which was a bonus.
Review 134:Spa and pool needs updating, sauna in changing rooms so have to go in seperatley!
Review 135:Fantastic location! Rooms modern and very clean! Staff very friendly! Beautiful grounds!
Review 136:House keeping standards very poor. Dirty toilet. Floor dirty, with hair left on the floor from previous clients, which was not cleaned up in our three days. Black marks on the tiles. Plug full of dirt. House keeping knocked once and did not 'announce they were house keeping' and didn't wait for an answer before immediately opening the door when we were still in bed. Did not replenish the toilet paper. Bedding not changed in the three days despite them needing to be. The House keeping standards really let this hotel down.
Review 137:The outside of the hotel is lovely, with well maintained garden. I like the old feeling of the hotel and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 138:Charged me over £500 for 3 nights, no breakfast included (my fault, I failed to note that when I booked), but that could have been remedied on my arrival by the check in staff. £14 for a breakfast.Sending me lots of emails to stay for £35 per night now...I bet blown light bulbs in dining room R still unchanged.
Review 139:Very handy for walking into town.
