Reviews for Le Grand Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is very central and the view from the balcony was fantastic looking over the canals. Would definitely stay here again. Loved the hotel and its decorations.

Review 2:Indifferent welcome and inattentive service.

Review 3:Good location on the quay. Happy for us to bring our muddy bikes into the reception area. Impressive common parts.

Review 4:Bedroom a little tired but reflected in the price

Review 5:The architecture was fabulous in the main areas. The inner courtyard where we ate breakfast had a fabulous ambiance

Review 6:The whole place smelled bad, fusty and of human bodies, though not in the room. The central well had peeling railings which were also very low and in our opinion posed a hazard to health. The room itself was okay, rather sparsely furnished (no carpets), and with a view that was just about passable. The garage was a nightmare to get into and out of, though otherwise fine: a narrow passage led into it from the busy main street and we got used to squeezing our Audi A4 through it. The staff were okay but not excessively friendly. Generally, the place needs a good renovation.

Review 7:The location of the hotel is perfect and it is an interesting old building. The attached restaurant (Quai 17?) is also rather good if a little expensive. Breakfast was good and internet facilities were fine.

Review 8:I found the staff professional but not overly friendly. The parking area was very tight to get in and out of. If we had had a wider car, it would have been very difficult to manouver

Review 9:The view from the window was of the canal which was great. The hotel interior was shabby chic and had some very interesting furniture and ornaments

Review 10:the free wi fi did come and go a bit.

Review 11:Charming hotel and staff. Allowing bicycles in the lobby was cool. The allocated parking for cars gives you the same spot for the duration of your stay.

Review 12:We were warmly greeted by the staff and the check-in and check-out process was very smooth. The hotel is gorgeous and extremely well-situated. The continental breakfast was quite elaborate and of high quality.

Review 13:Room size, but it is typically French.

Review 14:Great location on the canals. Close to restaurants and bars. Staff were helpful. Some great art in the public spaces and a nice restaurant if you don't want to go anywhere.

Review 15:I had to hold the shower overhead while standing in the bath.

Review 16:The views along the canals from the window, friendly staff at the desk always willing to help , great location,

Review 17:The restaurant was closed for a private function which was not advised either when we made the reservation or when we checked in. Unfortunately in January there was not a great selection of restaurants open in the town itself. The bed was not very comfortable as it sagged in the middle and I had advised the hotel that I required a firm bed because of back problems. The car park was a rather seedy, unlit location, when we arrived, for which we were charged €10.

Review 18:The bathroom was very clean and well presented although the shower screen allowed the escape of water partially flooding the floor.

Review 19:Slight problem with the shower but otherwise perfect

Review 20:Loved the view and the position of the room (I had specifically asked for a room with canal view and it was wonderful). A lovely stylish hotel with fabulous period features. The room was extremely clean and nicely laid out.

Review 21:Le Grand Hotel was a pleasant place to stay in Sete, a refuge of quiet in the chaos of August. Friendly staff in the center of town, close to restaurants and shops.

Review 22:I couldn't pick out anything I didn't like.

Review 23:The location is right at the base of the markets so really couldn't get much better while also being on the junction of two canals so offering beautiful views. The staff are helpful and friendly and have great local knowledge. This is a French hotel so make some effort to speak French and you will be richly rewarded. The décor is wonderful. The hotel has been recently renovated and they have managed to keep all the old world charm and beauty while adding the vibrancy of modern art in a way the works really well in my opinion. We will be going back!

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Wonderful location and our room looked over the 2 canals - could not have asked for better. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was modern and very well equipped and one of the best we had whilst in France We enjoyed walking around Sete and found it to be a lovely city.

Review 26:The room was a little to modern to match the style of the rest of the hotel.

Review 27:The canal wiew from the room, the spacious sitting areas and the interior decoration as well as friendliness of the staff and home quality of the breakfast.

Review 28:I can;t think of anything!

Review 29:The locality at the junction of the canals was perfect. The architecture and slightly old-fashioned style of the hotel was lovely - good that it had been retained and no attempt had been made to "modernise". Lovely spacious room and bathroom. The fact that we arrived through the grand entrance doors with our bikes was not a problem and we could leave them in the foyer. Great breakfast!

Review 30:The quirkiness of the art & the atrium hall

Review 31:Have stayed here before and we're happy with everything including " old world charm"

Review 32:We missed a bidet, proper shower and a kettle or coffee machine.

Review 33:Comfortable room, fantastic view and location.

Review 45:Well located and grand old building

Review 46:Great hotel, takes you back in time. Good central location

Review 47:Our large corner room with 4 balconies looking straight up the canal

Review 48:Great location to wander around Sete

Review 49:Bel endroit. Bien localisé. Personnel accueillant.

Review 50:It was expensive for the room

Review 51:Location and beautiful building

Review 52:A beautiful room with a view of the canal.

Review 53:Breakfast choices are limited for the cost

Review 54:The location and the interior decor

Review 55:No fitness center.

Review 56:Near to the city and the staff is very costomer frendly. Near to the Sea

Review 57:no seperate shower and no heating in bathroom

Review 58:very pet friendly, quirky decor but nice, close to town

Review 59:Wi-Fi too slow for Skype. Wind go through windows and door.

Review 60:Excellent bath tube and bed. A convenient location.

Review 61:Modern Decor added to grand design Poor WiFi coverage in room Cheap Pillows

Review 62:Original Style of Building Fantastic Happy Hour Oysters Nice Balcony

Review 63:Nice and professional staff. We had top corner very nice spacious room. Good breakfast. Very good quality and price.

Review 64:The location was perfect...rooms with balconies overlooking the canals

Review 65:After a huge and great lunch elsewhere we went for a light dinner. Which was good but vastly over priced

Review 66:Friendly helpful staff. Good location

Review 67:I like almost everything; the hotel is an old lady keeping her splendor almost intact!

Review 68:Pricey. Artwork sort of clashed with architecture

Review 69:Very central, brilliant location

Review 70:Nothing whatsoever

Review 71:View on the canal Gorgeous Liberty style Elegant atmosphere Friendly staff

Review 72:position central to the city. the views were fantastic. breakfast was great and the staff friendly and very helpful.

Review 73:What a delightful place to stay in Sete. I was fortunate to be allocated a room over looking a canal. A perfect way to start and end a day. Breakfast was very good, if not a little manic if you hit the 8am rush. The hotel has excellent public spaces that could put it up there with other 4 star hotels. It's also an easy 10 minute walk from the station. For me it ticked all the boxes.

Review 74:Excellent location with pleasant staff and clean, comfortable rooms. The room was quiet with a comfortable bed. Convenient, easy to locate parking was nearby .

Review 75:Breakfast was overpriced and basic continental style. Would have expected a lot more for 11 euros each!

Review 76:Historical traditional French hotel, fabulous view from room 104.

Review 77:Everything met our expectations.

Review 78:The room was charming, exceptionally clean and had a wonderful view of the canal. The staff were very helpful -arranged for a taxi, sold us a stamp and then offered to mail the post card for us. We would stay here again.

Review 79:Sete has lots of narrow one way streets which are difficult to navigate by car.

Review 80:Marvellous old world décor , good position overlooking the canal, friendly staff, delicious bouillebaise , sun in the morning, even though it was February.

Review 81:The bedding was dowdy and rather old fashioned, therefore rather uncomfortable .

Review 82:The location was excellent and the hotel was really beautifully decorated .

Review 83:Would benefit from having a bar open to all residents, not just those using the restaurant. Also the facility to make coffee / tea in the room would be nice.

Review 84:Great location, nice decor with interesting artwork. Our room had a brilliant view over the canals.

Review 85:Breakfast is not included and expansive (11 euro per person!)

Review 86:Excellent location! Close to the main sightseeings. Warm and comfort room. Nice decor of the hotel.

Review 87:The room needed a little freshen up and the balcony looked a bit dodgy. It was also difficult to get to. You had to park under the canal and walk up.

Review 88:The view from the room was fabulous. Wecreallybenjoyed the restaurant what a surprise. The old world atmosphere. Great location.

Review 89:Difficult to unload kerbside

Review 90:Great location and views of the old port. Really beautiful historic hotel. Good air conditioning. Newly refurbished bathroom. Many different lounge areas to relax in. Enjoyed breakfast in the lovely atrium. Nearby garage very useful.

Review 91:We opted for a large bedroom which costs us 144 euros a night. Thebedroom and décor were so disappointing. Very depressing furnishings andthe large bedroom consisted of a normal bedroom with an ante room forone other. We were a couple, so of no use to us

Review 92:The location is great and the facilities were clean

Review 93:Why - do a lot of French hotels not have coffee/rea makingfacillities in the room and why do the mimi-bars have only onebeer in them

Review 94:Deceptive from the exterior, quirky and old fashioned interior.Good basic breakfast. Would try for corner room if we stayed again. Be careful of the bath if yiu want to shower - slippery.

Review 95:This hotel is in an excellent location in Sete. We had a suite overlooking the canal which gave us an ideal view of the Bank Holiday activities. The staff were friendly and efficient. The parking was excellent and essential during a busy time.

Review 96:The Restaurant was a little disappointing. Food was quite bland andtasteless. As the restaurant was not at all busy with only 2 othercustomers we got a feeling of being rushed for our order to be taken, and generally rushed throughout the meal. It seemed as if the staff maywanted to finish early once we had our meal completed. Other than thatit was a really good experience

Review 97:Staff at Reception was exceptionally welcoming and friendly andhelpful. House staff very friendly and helpful and a great customerservice ethos. Very clean rooms and throughout the Hotel. Very niceambience in the hotel and lovely old worlde style decor whilemaintaining a modern feel.

Review 98:Sete is a working fishing town, and since we were there in February, it was quieter than we would have liked and not many restaurants open

Review 99:The design is fabulous, and old hotel which has kept it's Grand charm and has been updated very tastefully. 12 feet ceilings and a corner room with three windows and Juliette balconies, and an amazing view of Sete canals. Comfortable bed and modern bathroom. We also loved the market in Sete, where we were able to eat our lunch and have a glass of wine while sitting in the market, a unique experience as we were with all the locals

Review 100:I complained about the evening meal (steak tough and tasteless) and got an apology from the waitress. No follow up from the chef/ maitre d' or the offer of a partial refund.

Review 101:Central location

Review 102:very small bathroom, toilet a little bit smelly, not enough light to read in bed

Review 103:the atmosphere of an old grand hotel, the decoration of the rooms, very nice staff, excellent breakfast

Review 104:The location and view is perfect and stunning. The hotel gave us exactly the room we want. The hotel is located right at the heart of Sete and you'll find shops and boating activities surrounding it. It is only a short 30-45 minutes walk up Mont St Clair, Sète. The incredible French local morning market is 5 minutes walk away and it is worth experiencing.

Review 105:They had the air conditioner set so that it could not go below 20c. Itwas a very hot day, and we would have liked it to be a little coolerin the room.

Review 106:It was a beautiful hotel with a great location. Only there one nightso unable to fully appreciate the hotel or Sete. Would return, planto return.

Review 107:i did not like that there were no toileteries supplied like a bar of soap or small shampoo. I did not like that there was no kettle or coffee maker to make tea or coffee. iI did not like that there was no iron. These things should have been there for the price of €120. Food in restaurant was fair not good.

Review 108:The hotel is a magnificent old building with a great covered innercourtyard where you can sit and relax as well as having your breakfast.Try to get a room on the upper floors and with a great view over thecanals of Sète: as the windows are double there is no risk or noise. Thebreakfast buffet is particularly good.

Review 109:The set dinner menu / la carte menu was rather rich for our taste and we would have welcomed a simple grilled steak/chicken/meat/fish without sauce and with a salad as an option.

Review 110:Great location with a superb view of the waterway. Nearby, safe 24 hr car parking. Excellent/helpful reception staff who were eager to please. The extended breakfast time was much appreciated, good value for money and in splendid decor. We enjoyed the delightful decor throughout the hotel and appreciated the care and attention to detail to make visitors feel relaxed. Certainly worth other visits and we will tell our English and French friends. Our standard double bedroom was very comfortable and the firm bed was a real treat. Given a choice, we would have preferred a duvet to blankets but that was a minor point for a delightful two night stay.We will return.

Review 111:... only the reception area is below the quality of the remainder of thehotel, without style.... A shame!!!

Review 112:The Grand Hotel is located right on the banks of the sete city canal, bustling with fishing and pleasure boats. It is also a short walk frommany restaurants, and very close to city center. It has a secure garage, with video surveillance. The building is xix century, with a coveredcoiurtyard converted into a breakfast patio. Rooms are comfortable, withdouble panes insuring perfect sound insulation. Bathrooms are topnotch... The furniture is period re-creations, and the decorationprofessionnally blends classicism and modernism, with efficientlighting, free WiFi. I will never stay at anothyer place in Sete as longas they maintain the quality and the price (super reasonable...) Thestaff is courteous, professionnal and well trained.

Review 113:Just superb in a fantastic location

Review 114:Decor

Review 115:Quality of the coffee at breakfast

Review 116:Beautiful building

Review 117:Restaurant tried a bit too hard and got some things a bit wrong.

Review 118:Location - right at the canal junction and near a gazillion seafood restaurants.

Review 119:nothing

Review 120:lovely room and bathroom helpful staff very dog friendly great position and quiet
