Reviews for Château De Verrières
Review 1:The hair drier is difficult to use. No hand mirror in bathroom. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly but had vinegar water on the plate with them
Review 2:the couple who run it are very welcoming. The historic building has been well cared for.
Review 3:Butter pats! Please use fresh butter. Yoghurt cartons instead of bowls.
Review 4:The Opulence of standards, decor and hosting. With a beautiful setting. Rooms were delightful. Food superb and hosts charming. This is a definitely must visit. The tranquil zone in a delightful city.
Review 5:Having to leave too early to have enjoyed breakfast.
Review 6:From the moment the electronic gates were opened for us and we were greeted by the owners, it was something special. We just wish we could have stayed longer. The centre of Saumur and the Loire were walking distance. A lovely meal on the quay listening to a string quartet on a warm balmy evening
Review 7:Loved the architecture and decor of the hotel. Wonderful old world, charming -- and beautifully decorated. Lovely grounds with onsite parking and great location in Saumur.
Review 8:Beautiful property in lovely Saumur, very well situated, great hosts. Each bedroom has its own theme and is a little gem. The reception rooms downstairs are grand and stunning. The park is lovely for a short postprandial stroll.
Review 9:This was gracious living on a grand scale. The building was imposing and all the furnishings were sympathetic and elegant. There were several areas for guests to use and drinks could be served. There were woods to wander in, and a swimming pool to relax in. The owners were charming and only too willing to help in booking restaurants, taxis and anything else. They also have a lovely dog, Baron...
Review 10:Allit needs is a restaurant and the building and ambiance is there to do it!
Review 11:Hotel is a beautiful late 19th century Mansion with mainly original features set in a lovely garden. Staff/owners very helpful. The pool is great.
Review 12:Two prices for breakfasts would have been more appropriate.
Review 13:The lovely building and antique furnishings. The friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts. Good English spoken. Only a short walk to town centre, good restaurants nearby.
Review 14:This is not a cheap place to stay. If you want a night of luxury, it's a fun place surrounded by Belle Epoque furnishings.
Review 15:The decorations, policies, cleanliness, and staff were excellent.
Review 16:We had the good fortune to find the Chateau de Verrieres and to spend 3 glorious nights in this hotel. It is truly an enchanting hotel with well-appointed rooms and excellent service. For the money, Chateau de Verrieres is one of the best hotels of this kind (Chateau) in France.
Review 17:Loved the room and the feel of the whole chateau. We have visited largetourist chateaus that are less interesting. This place is packed full ofhistory and each room is unique. Liked that empty rooms are left open tosee. Easy access to Saumur.
Review 18:Spacious rooms and old world grandeur. The hosts were charming and very helpful. The Chateau had beautiful grounds and pool in a convenient location to the finest restaurant, Le Gambetta, 1 Star in Saumur
Review 19:Would be nice if they served dinner but understand french law regarding this is rather complex
Review 20:Our host and hostess were genuine friendly and very helpful the building has been restored with great care and attention to detail
Review 21:Sorry, can't think of one item that showed up on my "don't like" radar.
Review 22:When I came through the gate my jaw dropped at how magnificent the main building is along with its glass portico entry. Both our hosts were there to greet us with open arms. When we entered our room my jaw dropped again. It is as if we were in a museum with all the beautiful tapestries, paintings and high ceilings. If you like class, beautiful artifacts and a genuine feeling of being welcomed this is the place for you. By the way, the breakfast room as well as the breakfast itself was outstanding. Tres Jolie!! Burny
Review 23:Very good location to walk into the centre of Saumur. Loved being able to look at other rooms to enjoy the history and antiques, etc.. Swimming pool on premises. Uno the chateau dog was a delight. The owners also were very welcoming and offer help booking restaurants, etc..

Review 26:(Standard) Continental breakfast should include ham and cheeses
Review 27:The chateau is beautiful Standing in it's own private grounds Attention to 'period' detail Large room with private facilities Friendly owners and staff
Review 28:Continental breakfast not included. Room very small (green room) compared with others but I knew that going in and the savings was still worth it to be able to stay here.
Review 29:House and grounds. Well appointed room. Friendly reception and departure. On-site private parking. Easy in/out access. Short walk to town.
Review 30:Entrance hall very grand but didn't think the room lived up to the star rating.

Review 56:Just one member of staff running around covering the breakfast room and reception.
Review 57:The museum feel. Proximity to town centre.
Review 58:Beautiful bedroom Lovely hotel and gardens Pool Convenient location Very friendly welcome

Review 65:location, room, access to house and grounds, pool
Review 66:leaving
Review 67:the owners we very welcoming and made us feel very relaxed. the hotel rooms were very nice,as we were shown around some vacant rooms. we had the cheapest room in the chateaux, and enjoyed the stay!!
Review 68:Nothing it was fabulous
Review 69:This is a very beautiful hotel. The architecture of the building is just stunning. Each room is individually and tastefully decorated and quite luxurious. The owners are also delightful and very keen to ensure that you enjoy your stay. We have been twice and cannot wait to return.
Review 70:Nothing, the chateau was perfect.
Review 71:The chateau was breathtaking. The common rooms were comfortable and beautifully decorated. The beautiful bedrooms were all unique. The location was within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and the castle.
Review 72:Breakfast was delicious it perhaps a little pricey, the mattress was a bit hard.
Review 73:The Chateau was beautiful, after seeing the other rooms we realised we were staying in the smallest room - The Green Room but it was still lovely and we had the whole chateau to use. The hosts were lovely and so helpful
Review 74:The host was fantastic and very helpful, there was nothing to hard for him to make our stay memorable. the Chateau was amazing and the grounds let it self to late afternoon drinks that Thierry was able to offer a great selection for us to enjoy. We would recommend and happily return for another stay.
Review 75:Leaving.
Review 76:We have stayed here before and our hosts including Uno the dog were lovely. Highly recommended for a luxury night in a beautiful chateau, walking distance to restaurants.
Review 77:If I had to really nit pick then the only thing I can think of (and have sat here for 5 minutes racking my brains!) was the hair dryer, it could have been a professional type of one and not a typical 'hotel' one. Really and truly there was actually nothing to dislike about the château or the hosts.
Review 78:The hosts were totally delightful but not "in your face" The ambiance of the château was very tranquil. Short walk into the town with several restaurants Our room was sumptuous and no expense had been spared. The best bath robes I have ever come across (I dropped a large hint but Madame didn't offer me one to keep!!) You must try our the massaging chair in the games room next to the breakfast room - amazing, just what you need after trudging round several châteaux! Beautiful old dog to add to that "at home" feeling - but he was, like the owners, very discreet . Would love to visit again.
Review 79:Nothing.
Review 80:The property is gorgeous and very well maintained. The owners areextremely gracious and go out of their way to ensure their guests arewell taken care of.
Review 81:It was very hot when we were there and it was difficult to keep (our smallest room in the chateau) cool, particularly at night.
Review 82:Luxury, chateau accommodation but very close to the facilities of the town. Owners offered a very personal service and made us feel at home.
Review 83:Their policy of switching off the aircon if the room is empty! Having left it on to cool the room from 35c while taking an early dinner, we returned to find it off and windows open to receive 'fresh air' at 30c+! Didn't pay for aircon to be restricted to opening the windows! Go in spring or autumn - I suspect it might get chilly if it is very cold in winter!
Review 84:Character 'petit chateau' with large rooms, antiques and heated pool close to centre of town. Very friendly and helpful owners.
Review 85:We were unlucky enough to have arrived in Saumur during an unusual heatwave--not the fault of the owners. The rooms are not air conditionedand the portable a/c unit in our room could not cool it down tofeel comfortable. Thus if its extremely hot, I would look foraccommodations with air.
Review 86:Thiery and Yolandie are excellent owners/hosts of this authenticmansion. The building is furnished with the original furniture andpersonal touches you would have expected 150 years ago. The rooms arelarge and our bathroom was updated to all modern features. Location totown was superb allowing us to walk everywhere. A true delight.
Review 87:Breakfast did not start until 8:30 which is a little late if you want to have an early start.
Review 88:The accommodation was excellent and the owners were very welcoming and happy to arrange dinner reservations at some excellent restaurants. They were very knowledgeable and freely shared their knowledge. We would highly recommend chateau verrieres.
Review 89:Location was good - far enough out of the town centre for it to be quiet, yet close enough to be able to walk into town in ten minutes. The chateau was beautiful, inside and out, with comfortable rooms and elegant furnishings. It also had a pool!
Review 90:This is a fabulous chateau on several acres of land right at the edge ofthe city. A 10 minute walk to the center of town and two excellentrestaurants within a block. Thierry and his wife speak excellent Englishand are extremely hospitable and helpful. The chateau itself ismagnificent and well decorated...how about textured walls using theleftover fabric from Napoleon's Army Uniforms. This is a"gem"!
Review 91:Breakfast was expensive, for that price would have expected cheeses and cold meats. Should be included in room tariff.
Review 92:Beautifully furnished old chateau with very friendly owners. Upgrade to a bigger room was very nice. Lovely swimming pool.
Review 93:Sumptuously appointed with helpful and friendly owners. Easy stroll to excellent restaurants and shops. Really made the first night of our honeymoon something special. Felt like Lord and Lady of the Chateau!
Review 94:That we couldn't stay longer.
Review 95:The owners, Yolaine & Thierry, are the most welcoming, charming and gracious people we met in France. They really went out of their way to be sure we enjoyed our trip and were accomodated in every way possible. They even recommended France's annual National Esquestrian performance, Le Cadre Noir- a wonderful experience we would never otherwise have known about. Their property is an elegant late 1800's manor home located within walking distance of all of downtown Saumur with many excellent reataurants nearby. It is an exquistely furnished home for those who want a truly luxurious experince in the Loire Valley and is a good central base for visiting the many castles in the area.
Review 96:The chateau and grounds are stunning. The property has been beautifullyrestored by the owners, who are friendly and welcoming hosts. The roomsare tastefully furnished with comfortable beds, good size bathrooms anda well stocked mini bar. Next time we visit Saumur we are statying here.
Review 97:We stayed at the Chateau on 6/7th October 2012, on the way back from a fortnight in the Dordogne, it was a special treat as a Silver Wedding anniversary celebration and we were not disappointed. The Chateau is very beautiful and the room we booked - Eugene - was very comfortable with a lovely view over the front garden and a spacious bathroom, with lots of goodies. The hosts are very welcoming and booked a meal for us on Sunday night at L'Escargot which is a very nice restaurant within walking distance. We also ate in the restaurant La Gambas which was memorable. The breakfasts were served in the dundeon and were very good with everything you could wish for from a Continental breakfast. The Chateau is full of wonderful paintings, and lamps probably not a child friendly place to stay though. We plan to visit Chateau Verries again next year but earlier in the year so that we can sit out in the beautiful garden.
Review 98:The staff were very friendly and made us feel like special guests. It was clean and comfortable and was only a short walk from the city centre. We loved it and will certainly return next year.
Review 99:It was a bit chilly in the room.
Review 100:If you are on your castle tour, this must be the place to stay. You can soak up the atmosphere of an old castle in here. Staff, room, garden,, everything was fabulous!
Review 101:Since the owners of the chateau are your hosts you will find them there at all times. You will not get the anonymity of staying in a regular 4 star hotel.
Review 102:It's central location gave us a great starting point from which to go on day trips to other small cities to see the sights. Large spacious rooms that were very comfortable and clean. The chateau itself is a marvel of old world construction and decor. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about sights to visit and restaurants to enjoy.
Review 103:Pretty much everything, from the minute we arrived and were personally greeted at the front door by Yolande. The location is perfect, only 5 minutes from the town centre. The chateau proudly displays its awards and clearly is deserving of every one.
Review 104:Nothing--we liked everything.
Review 105:We liked everything about this wonderful Chateau. The owners are just marvelous hosts and have opened their beautiful home to guests like us with such friendlyness. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The common areas were so very fun and you were welcome throughout the large chateau. The front doors were generally open wide, welcoming us home after day or evening excusions. Breakfasts were wonderful with a large selection of pastries, fruits, and other wonderful items. The gardens and lawns were gorgeous and relaxing, and one afternoon we had a cheese, fruit, and wine picnic lunch. There was even a heated swimming pool if you had the time to take a dip. The host and hostess were very knowledgable about Saumur and the surrounding area and were most helpful in making suggestions and reservations. Their recommendations were always great. The downtown restaurants and shopping we an easy and enjoyable walk. We totally enjoyed Saumur and our stay at this delightful Chateau. Our stay was too short but it was one of the real highlights of our two weeks in France. We highly recommend this wonderful spot.
Review 106:The rules and regulations in the hotel information folder, make sure you read them!!!.
Review 107:The decoration downstair and that's all. I picked the hotel after reading the raving review from some previous guests. But it was not as I would expected:1/ make sure you tell them that you don't want the breakfast otherwise they will charge you even if you don't eat there. 2/ If you are out all day visiting the chateau in the Loire region, then it is not worth it to pay that sort of money. The service and facilities are average like any other hotels in that class.
Review 108:Nothing, just a recommendation maybe: Ecological products for breakfast would make a difference.
Review 109:The authentic atmosphere and historical renovation of the house as well as the extremely friendly owners who who were welcoming and also very helpful in planning our city trip by e.g. recommending and booking for us tickets for the opera where we spent a smashing evening. Apart from that we liked very much the old friendly dog.
Review 110:Friendly hosts, city location within walk-able distance to many restaurants, shops and wine tasting venues, beautiful and grand interior, clean and luxurious room with good amenities, excellent sitting areas inside and outside of the Chateau, wide selection of beverages available at hotel prices but still acceptable given the ambiance in which to enjoy them, pool is well kept but still a bit chilly at 26C because of the poor weather Definitely allow at least 3 nights to fully enjoy the experience.
Review 111:We stayed in the Green room. This room is very small, and with 170€ per night it is highly overpriced! We stayed in nice rooms for almost half of the price. If you like to stay in this castle, we recommend to take one of the larger more expensive rooms to avoid disappointment. The hotel has too many rules (no food in the room, rules on the luggage, rules for the swimming pool).
Review 112:A beautiful castles with some very nice rooms. Very nice hosts.
Review 113:Nothing - all excellent
Review 114:Beautiful hotel and an excellent location. Owners have made the hotel very welcoming and friendly. All the rooms have been finished to an exceptionally high standard. First class.
Review 115:It is rare that you visit a place and find it pretty much faultless.
Review 116:It is the most magnificent house that has been beautifully restored withgreat sensitivity and understanding of the original building. We lovedthe fact that the walls in the main hallway were covered with cloth fromNapoleons army. All the common parts were beautifully furnished and thebedrooms were fantastic, very romantic. We were warmly greeted by theowners who could not have been more friendly, gracious and thoughtful. We arrived in a vintage car and they had gone to the trouble of making agarage available for us. They were really helpful when advising what todo and where to eat. We had the most fantastic dinner at La Gambetta, aMichelin restaurant within staggering distance of the house. A verypretty pool and gardens too.
Review 117:Absolutely superb hotel in great location with nice swimming pool. Very comfortable spacious room and plenty of secure parking. The family owners could not have been more helpful and friendly. An overall excellent stay and would go back anytime. Strongly recommended.
Review 118:A little expensive. The breakfast was fairly basic continental but noreal complaints.
Review 119:Its a unique hotel. I paid more to stay in a chateau and I wasn'tdisappointed. The house and gardens were beautiful, the staff/ownerswere very welcoming and helpful. I also liked being in the town ofSaumur with all it had to offer.
