Reviews for Best Western Moffat House Hotel
Review 1:Slightly uncomfortable bed. Expensive breakfast (cost deterred me from having breakfast at the hotel).
Review 2:Friendly, welcoming staff who were keen to please. Lovely, large clean ensuite double room with tea and coffee making facilities. Caters for special diets - The Chef provided a choice of vegan dishes (not on the menu). Free WIFI. Offstreet car parking.
Review 3:Nice big family room in the cottage, which was nice and warm. Staff friendly and attentive. Ideal location and pub/restaurant on site for ease with children. Good food for breakfast and tea. Reasonably priced, would recommend especially for families.
Review 4:We had a very disappointing stay this time. The bathroom heater was on full and a metal plate was screwed over the controls making them completely inaccessible. We spent a very uncomfortable night and made a formal complaint at reception next morning before we left. Two weeks later and the hotel has still not bothered to get back to us regarding our complaint. Very poor service.
Review 5:Although the breakfast was faultless, we thought the advertised price of £12.50 was very steep.
Review 6:Stunning elegant building. Engaged and intelligent staff who clearly wanted us to have a good time, and the breakfast...the breakfast was really well cooked and we looked out at the beautiful grounds feeling very peaceful.
Review 7:Room 22: 1 Dated avocado bathroom suite and decor in poor condition. The shower screen ill fitting with obvious stains from water leaking down the side of the bath Pine bathroom fittings as dated as the rest of the bathroom 2 Room located in a converted annexe with an ill fitting door exposed to the elements with the wind whistling through it 3 Tatty ill fitted curtains 4 Asked for a double bed - got two singles 5 Wi-fi is advertised as available in all rooms. Not in Room 22, where the manager said their router equipment didn't support Apple products!!!!! In general: To be fair, we got a bargain last minute deal through Booking.com, so perhaps we shouldn't complain. Maybe so, but if we'd payed the advertised rate, the same faults would still have been there. Can I recommend staying there? Disappointingly, despite the cheap deal - no. The whole ethos of Booking.com is providing great hotels with great deals. This particular hotel is just a case of you get what you pay for.
Review 8:Lovely location
Review 9:Nothing
Review 10:Cottage was warm , cozy & good value. Beds very comfortable. It's right next to the hotel, so you can eat there if you don't want to cook.
Review 11:No bad experiences, but the staff appeared to be somewhat 'skeleton'! No doubt due to the low number of guests in late October. Also bar prices very expensive.
Review 12:Excellent hotel & location. Very clean and good value for money. Would certainly recommend it to others. Despite its central location it has an open aspect at the rear, with a lovely garden.
Review 13:Nothing.
Review 14:Easily found. Warm welcome from the Polish girl, who couldn't have been more helpful, and friendly. We had a lovely bar meal. The bedroom was particularly well appointed, and very spacious, the four poster very comfortable.
Review 15:None
Review 16:All the staff were friendly and attentive and showed an interest in their guests. The food was excellent especially the fish pie and , of course, the service was second to none.
Review 17:Received really helpful advice about where to play football with the kids! Hotel in easy walking distance of Moffat High Street Great breakfast in the morning
Review 18:We had to wait rather a long time for the waitress to take the breakfast order and then another while for it to arrive. Other than that everything was great although the drinks seemed a bit pricey.
Review 19:Great food.
Review 20:Horrible old washed-up bed-linen, less than useful shower, no mirror light in bathroom, peeling wallpaper in bedroom
Review 21:Location, friendly and helpful staff
Review 22:Despite having booked 2 months before we arrived and the hotel phoning to confirm the room we wanted, we arrived to be told that the premier room we had booked was not available. The room we were given, tho' very large had a smaller bed than we had booked and the very large bath/shower was so high to get into I slipped getting in - no damage done but added to our dissatisfaction.
Review 23:We've stayed here several times before and always find the staff friendly and helpful; food very good and very comfortable beds.
Review 24:The price of the meals, we didn't even look twice at the menu after seeing the headline price and the "extras".
Review 25:Location, good sized bathroom
Review 26:wifi not great, bit noisy at night. lost my nighty when changing sheets .
Review 27:Very nice hotel, good location food good, clean. nice staff generally.nice old building
Review 28:We had only the room for the night and found a lovely breakfastelsewhere in Moffat a lot cheaper than the £12 at the hotel.
Review 29:Central location, ample car parking, and the evening meal in therestaurant.
Review 30:Felt the menu on the dining room could have been extended. Lounge bar was very tired with stained tables which looked more like a public bar.
Review 31:Welcomed by a very efficient and friendly young man. Self catering cottage was comfortable, with excellent central heating.
Review 32:Some might call the hotel quaint, I'd call it ramshackle. Typical Scottish hotel stuck in a time-warp. Everything was only about average, nothing to make the place stand out or to maker you rush back.
Review 33:Convenient location. Ample private carparking
Review 34:The hotel was very nice and the staff very friendly, the price overall was really good, the room was really really nice and the free wifi was a good extra, the bed was very comfortable and the bath and shower was just perfect
Review 35:Water pressure in the shower was insufficient. Internet was very poor in general but non existent in the bedroom. A staff member did explain they were aware and plans were going ahead to upgrade the Wifi.
Review 36:Excellent location and large comfortable room.
Review 37:We did not have a bad experience but decor dated and tired. The room was cold but heating was available. Reminded mr of growing up in the 60s,
Review 38:Very quiet. Easy location near M74. Lovely little town to explore. Loved we could park our car right outside our room
Review 39:Bar meal very average, breakfast room was full so we were told to get our cereal and wait in the bar - 10mins later still waiting so they had to set up a table for us in the bar, lots of the food / drinks had already gone 30mins before the end of breakfast times and was not replaced, staff very over stretched.
Review 40:Nice big family room cheerful staff good location
Review 41:Was not ready at check-in time! That was however quickly rectified by helpful, cheerful and polite housekeeping staff! Wifi was in hotel and was very intermittent in cottage.
Review 42:Convenient location, open views at back, relatively private.
Review 43:Room was really warm, then noticed that the staff had left the radiator on in the room. Bathroom was ok could do with updating, shower was really poor, no matter how hard you tried you couldn't get the temperature right!
Review 44:Location of hotel was great and free parking right outside was another added bonus.
Review 45:the booking .com website did not have a correct inventory of the available hotel rooms. The hotel had to contact me directly to update the booking
Review 46:excellent high street location
Review 47:Decor of room rather shabby, not up to standard expected of Best Western at this price.
Review 48:In pleasant town with easy access from motorway. Good car parking available. Staff very helpful and meals good.
Review 49:Room was quite out dated, wall paper ripped off on corner of wall which was a little unsightly
Review 50:Very friendly staff, beautiful grounds lovely breakfast
Review 51:Slightly dated decor but comfortable enough and nothing offensive! Breakfast would have been steep at £12.50/head!
Review 52:Hot chocolate sachets, and biscuits-lovely extras for children. Moffat itself is lovely little town, great stop gap on our road trip!
Review 53:expensive beer, understaffed (girls obviously worked over 12 hrs),hotel is scruffy and needs full refurbishment, very old shower. Couldn't get full cooked breakfast as the cook only started at 0730 and we wanted to eat at 0700.
Review 54:comfortable bed, bar meal quite good
Review 55:The toilets cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired and the staff shortage was appalling. Need to man the hotel far better.
Review 56:Staff were friendly and very helpful
Review 57:Breakfast for two £25 ? Pint and half Peroni £8.45 ? This is Scotland not Switzerland! Bedroom decor was very tired and bathroom very poor - badly lit, low mirror, and tiny sink in large space?
Review 58:Great location, helpful staff, free wifi.
Review 59:The mattress (room 7) had seen better days, and offered minimal support; the bedroom was otherwise acceptable. The bedding had a smell of ammonia which, upon reporting to staff at checkout, related to a change in the hotel's launderer which had apparently become problematic. While this is a building of character, so naturally decor etc is not new or up to date, the bathroom was dated with cracked tiling and mould around the shower; which is unacceptable in a hotel of any age.
Review 60:Well located in the centre of the village with easy and plentiful parking, and only a mile from the motorway. Well priced menu when compared to the other restaurants, so you may as well dine at the hotel.
Review 61:The 2 young girls serving breakfast were clearly unexperienced and uninterested to provide good service. We had some special requests that were carried out with much delay and inaccurately and with an air of "don't bother me with this" The matras in my room was quite uncomfortable, I guess it is time to replace it by one with modern comfort
Review 62:The hotel is a nice building in a beautiful town
Review 63:This was a return visit on our way home from the Highlands. The situation is excellent with very friendly staff. We had a great meal in the bar. Our room was comfortable and well equipped.
Review 64:Not to say I did not like, but the rooms need a little T.L.C. This is not to say I would not stay again. The breakfast was great.
Review 65:Great Location, great parking, good attentive staff.
Review 66:Bedroom in need of re-furbishment, wallpaper peeling back, Bathroom, mould around bath/shower screen, windows hard to open, therefore windows running with condensation. Asked if music could be put on in lounge, but were told 'not possible as there was a wedding in the function hall.' Too quiet, so went elsewhere for dinner and drinks.
Review 67:Good location in High Street, Breakfast good. Lounge nicely decorated.
Review 68:The night porter was very rude and allowed a resident of the hotel serve themselves , when we were told the bar was shut as he was left on his own !
Review 69:The comfort of the room
Review 70:There was a problem with our tv that was not solved while we were there.
Review 71:the location was in the town so handy to walk out and go shopping or have a drink. We needed to get on the road early and we found an excellent bakery that did take away breakfast
Review 72:Requested a ground floor room but allocated a first floor room - changed at no extra cost when pointed out walking difficulties. Bar is very expensive - 2 pints beer, 2 whiskies and a coke was £24!!!!! £12.50 each for breakfast is a rip-off for what you get - most of it burnt!!
Review 73:The location is great!
Review 74:Dated, scruffy and dirty, especially the bathroom. Taps dirty with timescale, shower screen damaged and dirty, flooring in bathroom had a obvious hole in it and shower was full of hairs.
Review 75:The building is lovely from the outside.
Review 76:There is no elevator, so if you have difficulty with stairs, this is not the hotel for you.
Review 77:The staff were delightful and very helpful even allowing us into their office to print our boarding passes.
Review 78:The room we had was a little small, as was the bathroom, but that no doubt was caused by the age of the house.
Review 79:Very accessible in the main street of Moffat with plenty of parking. The building had the look of a modest period house.
Review 80:The service in the bar suffered due to under staffing, just 2 girls to cover reception, bar and serving bar meals on a busy Friday night and yet all people present were staying at the hotel therefore the numbers must have been know in advance.
Review 81:Our room was fine. The evening bar meal was excellent particularly nice batter on the fish and nice cripspy chips. The breakfast was good.
Review 82:Old tired hotel, free wifi only in the reception area not in the rooms A repeat router would cost 50 pounds max and this is indicative of the lack of investment into the facility.
Review 83:Location
Review 84:Drinks and breakfast are far too expensive, £4.50-£5.00 a pint when the next place no more than 100m away was half the price. At closing time there was an exodus from there of guests staying in Moffatt house bar was empty. Breakfast at £12.50 when directly across the road was a selections of excellent cafe's offering high quality food for half that price, again many folk staying in the Moffatt house were seen in these each morning. Typical of a large chain whom really don't care what the charge customers, bad business practice in my opinion.
Review 85:The staff were friendly and helpful, the food in the bar and the resteraunt was good. Location is good
Review 86:No 24 hr desk service, also I was charged for two meals and breakfasts as it was a double room. As it was booked through booking.com they were ynable to change it or refund any money
Review 87:No night porter service with bar closing very early and some staff not very friendly. However the manager on check in was very helpful.
Review 88:Clean and good food.
Review 89:I had a single room. It had everything I needed. The bed was comfortable but the room could be described as "compact" and looked on to someone's back yard.
Review 90:Town centre location. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nice public areas. Good food. Outside seating area in beautiful gardens.
Review 91:The twin bedroom was dark and felt dismal. The very heavy wallpaper added to the dismal feeling. The toilet roll in our ensuite (didn't use another other toilet in the hotel) was arguably the cheapest on the market! The canned loud pop music whilst eating breakfast was very inappropriate particularly as the average age of the guests was around 68years. It was a shame because the breakfast room was pleasant and it would have been good to have some relaxing music if music was played at all.
Review 92:The location was ideal for a one night stop.the staff were very friendly.
Review 93:The only slight worry was that I was in one of the rooms in the courtyard buildings. The outside doors were always open I kept closing them as this is not great from a security point of view.
Review 94:Excellent location great price
Review 95:The room was very comfortable and clean with good facilities. The bar staff were very friendly and enjoyed our meal and drinks although I found beer price somewhat higher than normal.
Review 96:Room had several stains and signs of damp. There was around 7 wasps in the bathroom when I left the window open to air the room. Breakfast was poor value for the £12.50 charge.
Review 97:Staff were friendly and helpful. Bar food was good value for money and offered at reasonable times. The rear garden is lovely in good weather.
Review 98:Bed was too soft for my personal taste, that was it
Review 99:Visited the hotel for an overnight break and got a good deal. Staff were brilliant and we stayed in room 10 which was very comfortable. We didn't eat at the hotel but the food in the bar looked very nice. No complaints whatsoever, highly recommended
Review 100:WiFi was a bit weak in our room. Found the breakfast too expensive so we ate across the street in a nice breakfast place.
Review 101:Very nice building, large comfortable room, good dinner.
Review 102:Restaurant meal. When I arrived in the restaurant there was 1 gentleman eating his main course and a couple ordering their meal. After I ordered a roast chicken dinner (main course only), I waited approximately 20+ minutes for it to be served. Unfortunately, it arrived cold. It took a further 15 minutes for the 2nd meal to be served, but this time it was hot and delicious.
Review 103:I found Room 2 (small double) to be a quiet room, despite overlooking the car park and main road. It is restful and warm and well equipped.
Review 104:The kettle is a little too large for the sink, so filling it takes a bit of careful jiggling, maybe a smaller kettle would help as you are unable to fill it up to capacity anyway as the water comes back out when you try to remove it from the sink.
Review 105:The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 106:Room size was very small and amenities poor. A single room but not a drawer in the room. There was a cupboard able to hang things but basically had to live out of my suitcase.
Review 107:Location good. Staff very good. Breakfast good.
Review 108:The single room really needed updating, the kettle was full of old water and the lid kept falling off. The bathroom door was falling off - on a runner Not enough milk, had two cups for a single room?
Review 109:Free parking TV worked
Review 110:Four Poster Bed in so called Deluxe Room was very hard. There was a gap between mattrass and bedframe which made it difficult to get in & out of bed without the wood frame hurting the back of legs and had to suff a pillow down the gap at the top to stop draught. The deluxe rooms are also not in the main hotel, they are in a side annexe which mans you have to gou outside across the courtyard to access the main hotel for means! Inconvenient during bad weather. There is no indication of this on website or in leaflets. The noise from the room above is also bad. You can even hear people talking as well as every move they make! The decor is described as Contemporary - maybe it was 30 or 40 years ago!
Review 111:Great location in centre of Moffat. Free Wifi. Superb food.
Review 112:No working heating in bathroom of room 22 wing room and one glass was dirty before use.
Review 113:The room size, heating in room, staff very polite and free parking.
Review 114:Dinner: great starter, but then my steak came out very bloody medium rare when I asked for medium well, then came back burnt on the outside when I sent it back, albeit it was then we'll done. I then had to eat alone as my wife's dinner wasn't also taken away for simultaneous service. Then the kitchen closed as it had taken such a while, so dessert was somewhat limited, although the waitress was as helpful as she was able. Spoilt what was otherwise a fantastic stay.
Review 115:Friendly staff, a majestic and historic location, and a great room.
Review 116:Our room was freezing, there was no heating. Night said they would fix it while we were out. They DIDNT!!!! Day staff were apologetic after. We had no feedback from the nightstaff.
Review 117:Friendly staff.
Review 118:Family room with real beds and not camp beds or sofa beds. This is a huge plus to us and I wish more hotels did this. It keeps the costs down to have the family in one room but all family rooms should have proper beds like Moffat House.
Review 119:Normally the food is beautiful on this occassion the evening meal wasnt as nice and the sausages at breakfast were cold in the middle
Review 120:Stay here a lot its a lovely hotel
Review 121:While one makes allowances for the structure of a very old building, no room should be as cramped as #9. Its claustrophobia was offset, however, by the modern and spacious bathroom. I presented my membership card on arrival but it was glanced at apparently without interest and handed back to me. Whatever the hotel's status in a town where there are six other hotels nearby, it is pretentious and absurd to indicate (in the information guide) that guests should not wear tee-shirts or shorts in the dining room in the evening; it was a Basil Fawlty-ish gaffe, and a silent reproach to any guest who had no previous experience of the hotel.
Review 122:The exemplary cleanliness everywhere, the beautiful location and surroundings.
Review 123:The room was a little dark and the décor a bit ornate for a former coach house. Still, it was warm and clean.
Review 124:The position was sublime. Right on the bustling but well-behaved high street, with gardens that gave onto fields and a view of hills at the rear. The staff were attentive and helpful.
Review 125:Gravel drive, impossible to get from my room to reception or the dining room. Staff are not aware of issues for disabled guests. I would not have booked this hotel had I realised there would be such very difficult access problems. I am disappointed as I phoned the hotel before booking and was assured accessibility was in order. The meal wasn't good value for money & the chips were not proper potato chips.
Review 126:The bed was really comfy. The staff were friendly.
Review 127:Why dont they fit a slow shut mechanisim on the front door...this is a problem.
Review 128:Everything apart from the front door slamming with the loudest of bangs room 2 gets the noise...
Review 129:Over-priced food and drinks. Bed very hard. Noisy (slamming doors, noisy water pipes). Room decor old, tired and basic (single room)
Review 130:Staff friendly and helpfulness, location great
Review 131:A reserved room was given to someone else and we were forced to climb 3 flights of steep stairs But a am registered disabled hence the pre booked room on the lower floor not happy given a free drink As a sorry
Review 132:The hotel and out look are great
Review 133:£12-50 for a coffee, and a slice of toast at breakfast is expensive. Window above bed in room 20 did not fit properly due to ivy growth-hence a draughty night. Outside badly needs some paint.
Review 134:Location could not be better. The room price was good. The staff were excellent and fish and chips at lunchtime were the best I've tasted.
Review 135:Bed really old and uncomfortable, shower room little more than a large cupboard, dark and old fashioned. Lovely old house so NO LIFT!
Review 136:Food good. Staff helpful and gave us a different room, which although smaller was 100% better.
Review 137:Although wi-fi was supposed to be available there was never any reception.
Review 138:Easy to reach from the motorway. Lovely staff, good restaurant and bar. Comfortable beds.
Review 139:Couldn't pick up the free wifi in the cottage,
Review 140:Cottage was very comfortable, everything you needed, food in the hotel was excellent, drink was pretty cheap for a hotel.
Review 141:duvet and pillows poor quality and flat we did not realize dogs were allowed ( its the last line on booking.com web page) and were disturbed 2 of our 3 nights by barking. The room door closures do not work so doors bang. Our deluxe 4 poster room was ok but we had to cross the car park to get to hotel facilities. we mentioned all this on the hotel questionnaire on departure and were promised a phone call from the manager and are still waiting.
Review 142:location
