Reviews for The Ancient Unicorn
Review 1:The floor hadn't been hoovered, and the exterior light on side of the courtyard from where I entered my room was out and as a car blocked light from the other side, I had a bad fall tripping up a step so was left cut and bruised and no concern was given my the staff I informed.
Review 2:Lovely room, couldn't be better. Good food excellent value
Review 3:Lovely welcome by owners, great bar with real ales and woodburning stoves, lots of vegetarian choices, spacious rooms with lovely bathrooms, very pet friendly as courtyard rooms lead straight outside.
Review 4:A great find. Hotel staff were very kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and service were excellent. We will recommend to everyone.
Review 5:When I booked I booked for one adult and one child. The booking confirmation was for one adult only. I clarified that with yourselves and you said that the booking had been amended at no extra cost to accommodate an 11 Ur old (great I thought) On arrival I was told it by owner it would be an extra £20. When I said I'd go elsewhere I was offered the room for 2 for £59, which I grudgingly accepted. The owner took me for a bit of a mug. An 11 yr old doesn't eat a £20 breakfast!!!!
Review 6:Wifi lacking - weak signal from bar, but no password given! Very noisy from above - some guests just don't consider others.
Review 7:Comfortable room. Lovely bath! Excellent shower. Staff excellent and very helpful - great breakfast.
Review 8:Our room was not equipped for the extreme winter temperatures and snow with only one radiator in an ex stable block.
Review 9:We liked the warm winter welcome, the breakfast, the price and the clean spacious room. Close to Barnard Castle and brilliant for touring. Very nice food, well done and a reasonable price.
Review 10:Room warm on arrival, but no heating throughout the night. Wifi only available in the bar
Review 11:A tastefully done, newly refurbished room in the outbuilding with its own front door. Decent sized room,(a double with a single bed). White fluffy towels, comfy bed and great duvet. Excellent power shower. Good breakfast with proper sausages.
Review 12:Slow service at breakfast. New owners still learning the ropes and not all procedures and facilities in place yet.
Review 13:Good food and friendly staff. Comfortable room.
Review 14:'room with a view'? small window, hardly overlooking courtyard 'deluxe room'? 16m2, not even a chair no pegs or hangers for clothing at all

Review 25:Great location just off the A66, overnight stay on the way back from the rugby in Newcastle. Excellent modern room with good facilities, extremely compfy bed and private access to the room which is handy. Breakfast was superb with a great service and a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 27:Out "in the sticks" but well worth the journey. Lovely countryside. Refurbished old world building .Lots of character. Comfortable bed (need slippers for part stone floor in bedroom) Owners and staff cant do enough for you. Excellent value for money. Strong WI FI
Review 28:Toiletries provided were Wilko budget in big plastic bottles and did not match otherwise high standard of presentation and attention to detail. Would have been nice to have some better presented toiletries, even if just budget products in nicer bottles!

Review 32:Lovely building being brought back to life from the doldrums. Friendly and welcoming owners whom have invested a lot of effort - still things to do - but clean, comfortable and great value.
Review 33:The Ancient Unicorn Inn is in a fantastic location if you are visiting N York's or Co Durham. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. The prices for food & drink in the bar/restaurant are very reasonable and the meals I had were exceedingly good, I totally recommend it.
