Reviews for Marine House

Review 1:Given the amount of glass in the building and the fact that the windows are a big part of the attraction of the venue it would be logical to keep them clean.

Review 2:Location brilliant in fine weather - could be trying when poor. Rooftop view excellent in fine weather. All rooms very spacious and well appointed - excellent. Parking, access and breakfast arrangements also excellent. Excellent access to walks and not far from good restaurants/pubs.

Review 3:Great for the gadget happy! We're not so inclined that way! Breakfast - homemade jams/marmalade would be nice, also more fruit choice.

Review 4:Location, although it was a v wild and wet w/e. An interesting style of building.

Review 5:Hotel entrance needs a more pronounced sign. That's it!

Review 6:Staff at hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly. Location is quite and picturesque.

Review 7:Decor is probably fine on a summer's day but suggest you check out the photos and be sure that you're into (very) white walls, bright lights and mirrors - we found it a bit off-putting, especially in the bleak mid-winter.

Review 8:Fantastic location if you like a bracing walk (right beside sea on the the path to Hurst Castle) and a friendly and helpful host.

Review 9:Nothing about the hotel & food but the weather could have been kinder!

Review 10:Fantastically different boutique hotel, sympathetically rebuilt by the owner to a very high standard with no expense spared to reflect it's original Art Deco origins. Exceptional food & views in the Blue Horizon restaurant, so good we ate in twice. The owner, hotel & restaurant staff were very friendly & attentive & couldn't do enough for us.

Review 11:A bit cut off for December. No street lighting and it was very dark outside. Breakfast didn't commence until 0900 but the restaurant manager prepared a 'take-away' for me which was nice.

Review 12:All I could expect from the room. Clean, spacious, all the little things were there. The restaurant in the block (different owners) produced a very nice meal.

Review 13:We paid for this room as it had a plasma TV in the bathroom... A great way to relax before going out but we were told on arrival it was not working!. It was a very windy night and so we couldn't open the windows it would have been very noisy so decided to put the fan on as the room was so hot... But this was very ineffective there seem to be a lot of gadgets in the room that did not seem to work! (Music system by door, TV in bathroom, fan and also bathroom pan fan!... Falling apart!)

Review 14:The room was very clean and the view was great. Very tasty breakfast.

Review 15:The room was absolutely stunning (we stayed in the apartment with balcony overlooking the sea). It was spacious, modern and beautifully decorated. The beds were extremely comfortable, the room was quiet so we slept really well. We ate in the restaurant and the food was superb. My friend can't eat gluten and the staff attended to her needs so that she too had a stunning meal. She was very impressed. The atmosphere in the restaurant was simply lovely; really relaxing and with superb views of the sea. Staff were great; especially Richard who really went out of his way to ensure had a great stay. We have already booked to go back to the same room in the summer and we NEVER go back to the same place twice.

Review 16:Unfortunately, in my opinion, The Marine Restaurant, which claimed fine dining, was not of the same high standard as the accommodation.

Review 17:The proprietor was very friendly and helpful and he upgrade my room to the penthouse, which was lovely! Thanks!

Review 18:Nothing to repirt

Review 19:A bit of an odd set up as the rooms are above the cafe and next to the restaurant. However the corridor leading to the rooms is beautiful especially now with Christmas decorations. The room was fabulous, modern and very comfortable. Pity the weather wasn't nice so we couldn't enjoy the surrounding area. Will definitely go back next year. The owner was great, as were the staff in the cafe and the partners in the restaurant. The food was excellent!

Review 20:We liked the location, sea views you could of seen the needles on the IOW if we didn't have 70 mph winds.but we had a good time anyway we had a very nice meal in the restaurant which has a very nice atmosphere and we will defiantly go again in the spring.

Review 21:The location was amazing being able to see the sunrise and sunset on the horizon with the backdrop of the Needles. Unique setting & building, immaculately clean, lovely room temperature, awesome monsoon shower....excellent service and breakfast with a beautiful view of the sea on one side and wading birds in the marshes on the other...what more can we say .....we will be back !!

Review 22:The owner and staff were very warm and friendly and nothing was too much for them. The accommodation is superb and the views from every room are amazing.

Review 23:Highly recommend the Hurst Suite at Marine House. The owner Richard was super helpful and also very kind to leave breakfast in room as we were leaving early before official breakfast times. Room is spectacular with great sea views. Clean & fresh, contains everything you need with small kitchenette, dining area, bathroom, lounge with large flatscreen, two large double beds, balcony w table & chairs and great lights ;-)

Review 24:it was a birthday and wedding anniversary, as we checked into our room, the Marine House, had kindly provided chocolates and fizzy wine on arrival, what a lovely touch, thank you soo very much, we stopped in the dolphin bank room, it was great, we enjoyed a long walk to hurst castle, and visited the smugglers inn for dinner, excellent food

Review 25:The price was higher than we would like to pay and it was almost off putting when selecting a place.

Review 26:The location was the main reason for our stay because it has both a beach and a countryside element.

Review 27:Didn't like the Futon style bed. We had dinner in the restaurant. Starters were excellent but the steak main was was quite bland.

Review 28:Loved the spacious and modern Hurst Suite room which had a great view.

Review 29:Very relaxing, clean and comfortable. Breakfast times were very flexible allowing a bit of a 'lie in' when on holiday. Staff were excellent and very pleasant and helpful. A bit 'quirky' but suited us fine

Review 30:Loved the location with a perfect view of the sea. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms are so upto date and stunning that non of the previous places I have been to compare

Review 31:Lack of instructions for controls. Couldn't control room temperature. Breakfast could have started earlier 9.00 a bit late for early starters. All minor complaints!

Review 32:Very large modern room. Location. Views. Excellent breakfast. Would stay again.

Review 33:NOTHING all was great

Review 34:I liked everything, Staff, Hotel, Location. Staff - were so friendly that nothing was a problem. Location - was on the seafront perfect - . Hotel wow!!! so clean so comfortable

Review 35:Not a bad experience however we thought that breakfast starts too late. The staff kindly provided us with an earlier simple breakfast when we explained that we had to get to a wedding that morning.

Review 36:Window only tilts so could not open wide to enjoy the sound of the sea.

Review 37:Quiet and restful. Modern and great location with outstanding sea views from terrace

Review 38:Nothing major to complain about ,it is as described. However I would expect more little extras for the price.this was no frills similar facilities to a premier inn. I presume the location gives the owners a reason to charge a premium. My view is that they should look at the overall experience of the guest and not rely on the location. The lady that met us when we booked in was great, very, friendly and helpful. When we left in the morning at about 10.30 there was no one around to say goodbye or ask how our stay was(this must be why we had to pay before we were shown to our room). The breakfast was very good, in a room overlooking the sea. This was spoilt by the fact that during breakfast someone was being shown around the restaurant with a view to a group booking . This meant our server was distracted we were not offered more coffee and struggled to get more toast . I found it annoying that a business meeting was in progress whilst I was having breakfast. These are small gripes and if it was just the one issue or if I had been asked by the Marine House about our stay.I would not be posting this. For £140.00 I had higher expectations and was disappointed . With more care and attention this place could be excellent.

Review 39:the location if you like being near the sea .Good breakfast . Spacious clean room. Great shower.

Review 40:The lack of fresh fruit salad just a random collection of pieces of fruit was a let down considering the cost of a nights stay. The atmosphere at breakfast was rather unwelcoming and one felt one was intruding rather than a welcome guest.

Review 41:The location is unbeatable but you pay a hefty price here and there's little else to back it up though the rooms are well appointed.

Review 42:The weather but I will forgive Richard as I don't thing he could have done anything about the rain.

Review 43:The whole experience was great, very friendly staff, room and view was also great. The room offered everything it said on the tin and more. The breakfast was well cooked and hot, I had the big breakfast which set me up for the day.

Review 44:Shame the restaurant wasnt open on a Monday and Tuesday evening when we were there as this meant we had to drive out somewhere to eat. It's a bit remote and there's not much around but this is just what we wanted. Staff were really helpful and chatty.

Review 45:The location was fabulous right on the beach. Shame we didn't have the weather to enjoy it more. Close to the forest too. Breakfast was nice. We had the dolphin suite which was on the side. It was wonderful waking up to the sound of the sea every morning. Loved the huge windows and the fact that it was pouring with rain made it much more cosy!

Review 46:Could not open our bedroom window as curtain pole in the way. Need to replace existing blinds with blackout blinds.

Review 47:Location, the facilities and atmosphere

Review 48:Hands down the most disappointing hotel I've ever been too. After paying on arrival we were taken to our tiny, very basic room, with two single beds pushed together. The bed had no headboard and the mattresses were incredibly uncomfortable. We arrived on a Monday for a three night stay to be told that the bar and restaurant close at 7pm on a Monday and a Tuesday, so after two nights spent cooped up in our room trying to watch films on the minuscule television we decided to call it a day and head home a night early. Also, I'm guessing 'air conditioned rooms' refers to the cheap noisy fan that was put into our room on our first day. All in all extortionately overpriced, had I been paying £60 a night for the room I would have been relatively happy, but £140 is disgusting...but on the plus side, the poached eggs were pretty good. If you want a tip for what you can get for your money locally then we spent the day at christchurch harbour hotel and spa which was beautiful and only £10 more per room even with access to incredible facilities, restaurants, bars etc. You've been warned people - do not book!!

Review 49:Lovely location by the seaside, staff were friendly and helpful. The room we had was clean, quiet and comfortable. Like the big bathroom with rain shower. When Greg (the staff with several 'hats') found out it was my birthday, he treated me to double-scoop ice cream which I enjoyed whilst strolling along the beach with my husband at 9pm! Such an impromptu and lovely gesture!

Review 50:no coffee machine which would expect for price of room. No tissues/cotton pads/shoe cleaner/shower cap/slippers. Early closure bar/restaurant on nights we stayed.

Review 51:friendly staff, great location, good room.

Review 52:No food served after 3:30pm at short notice the same day restaurant was closed. Window latch broken so couldn't be opened and aircon not operating in room.

Review 53:Great location, clean, comfortable with friendly staff.

Review 54:Breakfast little slow to arrive. Ordered cream teas on roof terrace scones arrived but had to chase for teas. (Staff very helpful though).

Review 55:Lovely location, stunning views. We had the suite and it was pure luxury! Great breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Review 56:Perfect location an the view from the room was lovely. We arrived late on the Sunday so we missed the restaurant, however Richard the owner was very accommodating and opened up the bar, serving us a complimentary drink on the balcony which was perfect.

Review 57:We were not notified that the restaurant was having a refit on the day of our stay meaning unable to eat there. This was on a Monday when many other restaurants locally were also closed.

Review 58:Proximity to beach and great views over to IOW

Review 59:I loved the decor of this hotel, lots of thought had been put in to making it bright, modern and sophisticated. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional.

Review 60:The only thing was no reception to book us in, at first we though we was at the wrong place until we see a very small sign say to check in at the cafe

Review 61:Room was very nice, bed was comfortable and breakfast very nice. Staff was all very nice to,,,,

Review 62:Excellent location. Amazingly clean. Loved the modern approach to art deco design. Staff really enthusiastic about their hotel. Bedroom creatively designed, very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

Review 63:Nothing to dislike - it was just a tad expensive!

Review 64:All of it! The staff are lovely people and made us feel very welcome so thank you to them, the penthouse suite was wonderful and the food was excellent.

Review 65:Staff were all excellent. Every where spotlessly clean. Breakfast as good as we have had anywhere and we have travelled all over the world. All over Perfect. Hope to come again

Review 66:Café downstairs serves as the reception for the b&b, which is often busy, but staff generally quick and helpful. WiFi is too weak in the room.

Review 67:Very friendly and helpful staff. Owner was very kind to give me a lift to my friend's wedding venue as I was running late. Great panoramic views from the roof terrace.

Review 68:I feel it would be good to have a bar or some area you can sit in evening there was only the resturant so for me to stay longer than one night wouldn't happen.

Review 69:The modern and very clean bedrooms the location and view

Review 70:Nothing we didn't like, except maybe the ease of finding the premises. Poor signage from the village meant it took a while to locate, but it was worth it!

Review 71:Loved the drama of the location. The construction, décor, lighting and ambience of the building were a joy and the views of the coastline and over to the Needles on the Isle of Wight, especially from the curved glass façade of the restaurant and from the rooftop seating area, were stunning. Loved the simplicity of the bedroom, and the beautiful en suite. Art Deco curves but with a minimalist feel. Most comfortable, huge bed ever! Ample storage. Friendliness of owner, bar manager and breakfast waiter all enhanced the pleasure of our stay. Evening meal in restaurant was excellent, as was the breakfast. Loved our stay here!

Review 72:We thought the rather flimsy blinds would not keep out much light, and so we were worried that we would be woken very early in the height of summer. Also, there seemed to be little noise insulation at the door to the room. We could clearly hear conversations of people in the corridor outside. Understandably we were charged for the room, but the amount was so close to our insurance excess that it wasn't worth claiming.

Review 73:Unfortunately one of us broke her foot after we had checked in (nothing to do with the hotel - it happened elsewhere) and so we decided to go home after visiting the local minor injuries unit. So our review is based only on a short visit to the room, but not an overnight stay. The room was very modern and well equipped, and the bed seemed comfortable. The location is right on the sea, but it is further from Lymington than we expected.

Review 74:Every thing closed far to early. No where to get a drink after 6.30/7pm. For £150 a night thought that was pretty poor.

Review 75:The room was clean and tidy. Bathroom and shower room dece. Bed comfy

Review 76:Restaurents and cafe open hours

Review 77:Great location and views, modern well equipped and great staff Still a relatively new enterprise so plenty of upside potential

Review 78:The breakfast needs improving. No fresh fruit or even dried fruit to go with cereal. No choice of breads, croissants or pastries although cooked breakfast choice very good.

Review 79:Location, facilities in room, fantastic shower and bathroom, the view from our room and from restaurant.

Review 80:Breakfast was a shambles. Poorly organised, had to ask for juice, slow service and overlooked cold poached eggs. Car vandalised in car park .

Review 81:Decor style technology bathroom

Review 82:We both found our mattresses a bit uncomfortable but ok.

Review 83:Impressive sea views from room and restaurant. Spacious room with high spec ensuite. Excellent food. Very attentive and friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. Mum has mobility problems, a lift provided easy access.

Review 84:Breakfast needs to include fruit and toast or croissants. by the end of our stay it was a bit more organised.

Review 85:Our room Dolphin was very attractive and well appointed above average I would say.

Review 86:Nothing

Review 87:Richard and Team were very helpful and friendly, even though we arrived so late! Spacious rooms, quiet and lovely breakfast. We wish we had more time to explore the surroundings. Great walks.

Review 88:Electronic gadgets in the room seem to not work (ie) heating ? Room service didn't bring clean towels just took the hand towels and left the other old towels stuffed on the towel rail ? But other than that really nice !

Review 89:Staff , food , location , a really nice place run by really nice people the food was good and service was fair ! Hurst castle is spot on defo visit again ! And the marine is spot on as well !

Review 90:Pity the restaurant was closed Although the bedroom windows had blinds, some curtains would have helped keep the early morning light out.

Review 91:Nice setting, very well appointed bed room facilities

Review 92:It would have been nice if the Bar was open in the evening to have a relaxing drink.

Review 93:The lovely location overlooking the sea and the Isle Of Wight. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Greg was a true Gentleman and treated us to a drink on the house to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. He even at breakfast took time out for a friendly chat at our table.

Review 94:It appeared that the staff who checked us in were restaurant staff who had limited knowledge of the rooms. I booked a twin room but it was made up into a double they didn't know where linen was kept so we're unable to make up as a twin.

Review 95:The location was very nice and the hotel was interesting! Staff were very pleasant and tried their best to help

Review 96:There was nothing I didn't like about our stay, other than we were dissapointed that the restaurant was not open for dinner on the night that we stayed (understandable as it was a Sunday in low season), but we had heard some good local reports about the food. Perhaps we will have the option the next time that we stay.

Review 97:The syle of this building and the way that it has been renovated to a high standard. Whilst the deco isn't everyone's cup of tea, as there is very little soft furnishings, I like the clean cut none fussy element of this building with its nautical feel which fits extremely well into its location

Review 98:Combination of restaurant, bar and accommodation unusual. Only side view of sea

Review 99:Decor of bedrooms and particular bathrooms was first rate, right up our street

Review 100:Menu in restaurant attached needs to have more choice as specials we're fab & tasted great but if it had not been for specials I would have had found hard choose any dish I fancied

Review 101:Stylish rooms great views relaxing location.

Review 102:Unfortunately I do not feel at all that the hotel is value for money. On arrival it is very confusing. It took us about 5 minutes just to find the front door!! The staff were relitively friendly, however the first man that showed us to our room clearly did not know what he was talking about. He did not know how to work the shower or the lights in the bathroom and could not reccomend any of the local restaurants which was a real shame. (However we found out for ourselves that the Britannia Thai is amazing!!) Our breakfast the next day was disgusting!! We had hair in our scrambled egg and no bacon, even after requesting it specifically! We wanted to tell the staff about the hair, but no one bothered to clear out table. We sat with dirty plates infront of us for 30 minutes whilst the staff flirted and messed around behind the bar. (There was only one other table in the restaurant). We quickly paid and left as we were already very angry. £120 for one night stay in a okay-ish pretty grubby and in need of TLC room is most definitely not worth the money. I would not reccomend this place and would not stay again.

Review 103:The hotel is located on the beach front in a fantastic location. It is quiet and friendly and such an amazing view to wake up to in the morning.

Review 104:No dinner was available on Sunday Monday and Tuesday evenings but we understand this is under new management and this situation may well change.Art deco

Review 105:the hotel was in a stunning location and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom shower was great.

Review 106:Wind noise due to extreme weather.

Review 107:Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and Richard the owner was very helpful. Big bonus they have a lift up to rooms.

Review 108:We really liked the position right by the sea. The whole place has been very well styled, with excellent facilities. Breakfast was very tasty, and overall it was a good break. No doubt we will be back.

Review 109:Nothing we didn't like, but it would have been nice had the restaurant and bar been open. Will have to stay again during the summer.

Review 110:Staff were very helpful and friendly. The owner, Richard, made a point of introducing himself on our arrival and checked that everything had been to our satisfaction on leaving. Location is fabulous, as was sea view from our room, Christchurch Bay. Probably the cleanest room we have every stayed in. Excellent bathroom!!

Review 111:The only fault was that the window in the bedroom was sealed (probably as still winter season) but would have liked a little fresh air and the bath towels need to be bigger if not offering bath robes

Review 112:Exceptional location. Fantastic Food. Helpful and friendly staff. Immaculately clean. All mod cons. Will definitely go back again

Review 113:Nothing, we would recommend this place to everyone. It's a pity they don't have more rooms. They only lost one point as the restaurant was out of action being refurbished.

Review 114:Fantastic location, and the roof terrace is amazing. Richard the owner was friendly and welcoming.

Review 115:Nothing to note!!!! At all!

Review 116:Loved everything about our stay, took my Mother for early Mothers Day treat. Location, staff, rooms -all amazing. Breakfast was great and there is a lovely friendly but not overpowering welcome.

Review 117:Out of season the restaurant was closed in the evening, which we didn't know until we got there.

Review 118:The room was great and the shower was amazing. The breakfast was very good. I loved it here

Review 119:The window blinds let too much light in even in the February mornings. In the summer it would be much too light from very early.

Review 120:The staff were welcoming and friendly and the room decorated to a very high standard. Jugs of milk in a little fridge in the corridor very welcome! Good view of the sea from the windows.

Review 121:Soft mattress and the fact that windows could not be opened (although there was a 'climate control' mechanism in place, it felt a little hermetically sealed)

Review 122:The location, (although it was a drive away from amenities), cleanliness and quality of the inclusive breakfast

Review 123:We were unable to open the window which meant the room became stuffy and a little too warm.

Review 124:The staff were very helpful. The room was very clean. The food was good, although the menu was limited.

Review 125:Tiled floors in bedroom and in corridor which meant it was very echoey; noise of other guests arriving and departing could be heard.

Review 126:Good location for coastal walks. Room was spotlessly clean and staff friendly.

Review 127:Nothing.

Review 128:Location was spectacular and the room had a nice view of the sea ( Room was called the Needles ). Breakfast was very nice and staff were extremely friendly.

Review 129:The bed was very comfortable but low. Not a problem for us but may be an issue for some visitors. I think the proprietor may want to highlight this.

Review 130:Great location, amazing room. Good breakfast, nice staff, good value. What more could you want

Review 131:Early closure and not open on the Sunday evening however completely understated. Will return.

Review 132:Greeted by owner and other cafe staff all very friendly. The owner showed us room and talked us through the rooms gadgets. Spotless room. Cafe closed on Sunday evenings so went out to local pub. Would have been nice to eat in. Breakfast super as was the cheery lady who served. Good place to walk and relax although no lounge/bar area. Summer here must be lovely for walks and just sitting on roof terrace enjoying the sea breeze.

Review 133:The only thing I didn't like was getting in to the hotel. But was explained to the owner and is going to be changed in the future.

Review 134:The location was amazing. Roof terrace looking out to sea and the isle of white. Had a great nights sleep with the sound of the sea. Staff very helpful !!!
