Reviews for Balmoral Hotel

Review 1:The stay was great in every respect, the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. The room was very comfortable with everything at your finger tips, plenty of tea and coffee and nice hot shower.

Review 2:Friendly staff, evening menu had a good choice, food was plain but very good, breakfast - porridge is definitely worth trying. The room, single, was very cozy with all the usual facilities, tea, coffee and an generous supply of biscuits, very good bathroom and especially the shower which was great and overall cleanliness was excellent. Overall a comfortable stay and good value for money. Moffat itself looked worth another visit but didn't get time to look around. The surrounding countryside looked good too.

Review 3:lovely spotless room, fresh jug of milk in fridge complimentary bottled water, and lots of biscuits to go with tea and coffee, huge breakfast and plenty of choice I enjoyed porridge and toasted soda bread with scrambled eggs, staff very friendly as were the locals in Bar

Review 4:Can't fault anything, our 5th visit & we booked again before we left. Clean, friendly & a great breakfast...Traditional Scottish hospitality.

Review 5:Nothing.

Review 6:Everything, the bar area is warm and welcoming, the bedroom we had was wonderful, comfortable, warm with a great array of toiletries and snacks even a fridge with fresh milk.

Review 7:Only stayed one night! Would have loved to stay longer.

Review 8:Very welcoming. Room had a separate lounge which was an unexpected bonus. Spotlessly clean. Incredible value for money. Food simple but excellent.

Review 9:Bar was busy and was unable to eat in the hotel on evening of arrival. Plenty places to eat round about though.

Review 10:Room 6 was really nice. It's good to get a comfortable sofa in the room and two TVs! The bathroom was really clean and well fitted. There was everything you could need, biscuits, tea, coffee etc.

Review 11:NO REAL ALE IN THE BAR

Review 12:GOOD STAFF AND A GOOD SIZE ROOM, THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS EXCELLENT WITH COMPLIMENTARY BISCUITS AND GOOD SIZE MUGS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE CUSTARD CREAMS WITH MY MUG OF TEA AFTER A LONG DRIVE.

Review 13:Didnt have any becks or peroni in bar or we would have just stayed at hotel for something to eat , breakfast was 1st class & a throw on back off couch would have looked better , Room 7 , Dressing gowns very small but lovely touch.

Review 14:Room was big , quite like a studio flat , tea coffee and sugar in jars and even had a biscuit barrel !! fridge in room big 2 tvs 1 large couch very home for home , ex room and very very clean , staff were brill def be back , breakfast 1st class even got 2 eggs !!!

Review 15:The bed was exceptionally hard

Review 16:The hotel is conveniently situated in the centre of Moffat, just 1 mile from the M74. Our accommodation consisted of a lounge with settee, TV & fridge and a separate bedroom with double bed and TV.

Review 17:Very spacious and comfortable room, including settee to lounge on to watch one of the two tvs in the room. There was also a mini-fridge complete with fresh milk and mineral water. Lots of choice at breakfast was appreciated as not everyone wants a cooked breakfast.

Review 18:The staff couldn't be more helpful , we were given the 2 bed cottage in the coach house as it was available the owner thought we would be more comfortable rather than the family room . Exceptionally clean and well stocked with big piles of fluffy towels and flannels . Breakfast was really tasty too , I'm Gluten free and everything on their menu is either totally gluten free or adapted easily at a moments notice ...someone's spent a lot of time thinking about catering for every eventuality . We actually felt that nothing was to much trouble we will defenatly be staying there again .

Review 19:Two spacious rooms with excellent facilities and spotlessly clean. Friendly staff and a delicious freshly cooked breakfast. Located centrally with plenty of free parking. Cosy bar with real log fire.

Review 20:Check-in is a little disorganised and doesn't give the best first impression.

Review 21:Well presented and comfy rooms, with thoughtful added extras to make you feel at home. Delicious breakfast by the wood-burning stove with local ingredients in the food.

Review 22:Didnt dislike anything.

Review 23:The cottage was beautiful. Very friendly and polite staff on our arrival and throughout our stay. Breakfast was amazing. Staff went out of their way to provide an iron and iron board for us in one of the cottages.

Review 24:Great welcome, superb room, we were given a cottage that was spacious, clean and very welcoming, down to including a jug of fresh milk for a cup of tea.

Review 25:It's about our 6th stay at the Balmoral, everything was perfect, staff, food, room. If there is anywhere better on this planet for £65 a night with all the trimmings let me know . It should be impossible

Review 26:Fantastic staff, nothing was any trouble for them! The room was large & clean & the hotel is in a great location, right in the centre of town. Great food. Would definatly recommend.

Review 27:Nothing comes to mind at all.

Review 28:Staff very helpful. Room was great as were room facilities. Value for for money was exceptional, cannot fault Hotel at all. Other Hotels were available but will return to the Balmoral. Thank you

Review 29:The room was so nice, spacious and comfy with lots of special little touches, like a biscuit barrel with bourbons. The bar was good and the food was exceptional!

Review 30:Excellent room, great lounge to relax in, plenty of space to move about and keep your bags etc. I would stay there again and recommend it highly. The meals were nice as was the breakfast.

Review 31:We turned up for early check in as agreed and the room still want ready. The was obviously work being done on another room next to ours and it was very loud and woke me up about 6 o'clock after being at my sisters wedding the night before.

Review 32:The room was massive and very clean for only £65.

Review 33:The room was excellent. Was great to have a large supply of tea coffee and biscuits. Lovely to have fresh milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. Food very good. It could be described as home from home.

Review 34:Had one of the 'stables' cottages out back. Very clean and all that you could want. Spacious and well-appointed, with all that you need for a self-catering (although with good breakfast included) break. Shame we were there for just one night!

Review 35:Great welcome and very friendly staff and service. Room very well presented and appointed. Two TV! Excellent breakfast. Great value for money.

Review 36:Stayed in a lovely Suite which was very clean and comfortable. Nice touch having a little jug of milk in the fridge and also bottled water. Enjoyed an excellent Evening Meal and the Breakfast was first class. The staff were extremely helpful - Thank you.

Review 37:Not a bad experience, but the courtyard twin room is a little basic. Obviously meant for the kids with parents sharing the double! In particular a small bedside table with a bedside light would be nice.

Review 38:My friend and I shared the courtyard accommodation, which we found excellent.

Review 39:Bar downstairs very busy with serving food...as a result I never did get the wi-fi code for free wi fi that I was promised when I arrived. Breakfast was served in the bar area which is ok. Staff could be a little more helpful and the lady who served breakfast should smile...just once would be fine.

Review 40:Room 9. Small apartment...living room with kitchen facilities, bedroom and en suite shower room. Plenty of space and only a few stairs to negotiate. Usual tea & coffee facilities ...with a biscuit barrel full of biscuits! All clean. 2 flat screen TVs of good size. Scrambled eggs vere obviously free range and well seasoned. Delicious.

Review 41:This hotel is a beautiful old coach house inn, the room we had was sensational as it was virtually an apartment. Clean, tidy and they serve a great breakfast.

Review 42:the road brush at 6am on sunday morning but that is not the fault of the hotel

Review 43:every extra was there for us and the place was so clean and comfortable we were absolutely delighted the place was much better than expected

Review 44:Nothing to dislike. Would like to spend more time in the hotel and the area.

Review 45:Recent refurbishment, good food, excellent breakfast, good size rooms, friendly staff, very good value.

Review 46:Love Moffat we have been once before. My mother was an evacuee during World War II so we wanted to find out where she stayed at that time. We could not fault the Balmoral and I would think it would give the Balmoral in Edinburgh a run for its money!!!

Review 47:We looked out on the main street which was good until late at night. Customers leaving the hotel were VERY noisy. The lady who served us breakfast was very busy, and was on her own and did very well but she wasn't that friendly - maybe it was because she was so busy?

Review 48:Nice large room and decent breakfast. Evening meal was plain but tasty.

Review 49:Last 7 steps up to 2nd floor room did not have a hand rail which made it difficult for my somewhat disabled wife.

Review 50:Recently refurbished bedroom suite was very tastefully decorated and furnished, including 2 seat leather sofa, large flat screen TV in sitting area and smaller one over bed.

Review 51:There was no fresh fruit at breakfast (and I don't drink fruit juice) but this is not the only Scottish hotel that doesn't have any.

Review 52:Really well equipped comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 53:Three young members of staff looked after us during our stay, and Sean even came out to the car to carry our cases. Cassie, the sole waitress, manged to remain cheerful in spite of the pressure of dealing with about 12 tables. The food was well presented and tasty. and the room huge with enough tea, coffee and biscuits to feed the five thousand.

Review 54:If anything, the bed could be more comfortable but only a minor gripe

Review 55:I've stayed here many times over the years and what a fab & reliable place it is too. Book room 10 if you can, it's a suite with a great view of the market place.

Review 56:None

Review 57:Room was a 2 story , 2 bedroom large apartment at rear of hotel with Kitchen and lounge Very nice and quite. In main easy access to shops. Excellent.

Review 58:Nothing

Review 59:Room was very spacious , more like an apartment . All newly renovated, quality fittings, excellent heating, comfortable leather lounges , great little fridge/freezer. Extremely helpful & friendly staff.

Review 60:Builders banging in adjacent room during daytime. Can't be helped I suppose.

Review 61:The room, nice bar area, good beer, secure motorbike parking in courtyard. Very helpful staff.

Review 62:The lounge and kitchen area, in addition to the bedroom and ensuite were all clean and spacious. The tea, coffee, water and biscuits are an added bonus. The early bird packed lunches are really good (enough for breakfast and lunch!). The hotel is in a great location, close to the motorway but not at all noisy.

Review 63:the room was very spacious, the tea making facilities fantastic just like being at home. Fresh flowers in the room as well, we had a lovely stay in this hotel. We had dinner and the service and food where very good, breakfast was great all very freshly made

Review 64:Great value for money, in cottage in grounds sleeping two couples. Ate in hotel in evening - good home cooked food and breakfast next morning good as well

Review 65:Free wifi was fine in bar/lounge area but poor signal in bedroom.

Review 66:Great facilities, large room and bathroom. Great choice at breakfast and food was of a high quality.

Review 67:Nice little hotel ideally situated to break up our journey to the Scottish highlands. Friendly staff, good atmosphere in the bar, suited our needs perfectly

Review 68:Moffat is a delightful small town and the hotel is right in the centre with parking in the middle of the broad street. The accomodation is very generous (our room had a separate sitting room) and and comfortable. The staff are delightful and the bar serves great pub grub. To cap it all, it's very good value.

Review 69:The room we stayed in was really a mini suite with a lounge & ensuite bedroom. The facilities were excellent with good stocks of tea, coffee & biscuits. The fresh flowers in the room was a nice touch.

Review 70:Room size was impressive and facilities within the room were good. I liked that they had included bath robes and biscuits in a tin. Small things but a nice touch. Food was well presented and overall very good value for money, especially as breakfast was thrown in as well.

Review 71:My husband and I use this hotel either together or on our own on our frequent trips between Kendal and Arran, particualry if we know we will not catch the last ferry. The reception from staff is always warm and the food excellent and good value for money..

Review 72:Too few coathangers,(perhaps some have gone missing!)

Review 73:Everything,friendly staff,great food,great location,rooms are excellent,clean and comfortable,would definitely stay again.10 out of 10.

Review 74:Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 77:Nil.

Review 78:The hospitality of the hotel, the staff & the cleanliness and size of the rooms would put a lot of other higher grade hotels to shame. Great stay & definitley recommend to anyone.

Review 85:The hotel was excellent value for money. Our room was spacious and warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was filling.

Review 86:Downstairs bar, where we had breakfast was a bit tired looking. Breakfast was basic, but to be fair ,the price reflected that. Would've been nice to have a bit of fruit, ( ok, it's a lady thing) even just tinned grapefruit would've been nice.

Review 87:Nice obviously recently refurbished bedrrom and en suite bathroom. Friendly staff

Review 88:We always try and stay at the Balmoral on our frequent trips to Scotland. We find all the people very friendly and helpful and the rooms lack nothing and are so clean and homely. Very good value for money.

Review 89:This is the second time we've stayed at the Balmoral on our trip to Dundee. The hotel is in the middle of Moffat. Free parking outside and free Wi-Fi. Our room ( no.2) consisted of two rooms - a lounge with two settees and TV, a fridge with 2 bottles of water and fresh milk + tea, coffee and biscuits. The bedroom has a second TV. Good breakfast and excellent value for money at £65.

Review 90:We have stayed at The Balmoral on a number of occasions.Always satisfied and as we pass throu Moffat on our way to St Andrews we wouldn't stay anywhere else. Kathleen and Robert Fage. High Peak derbyshire

Review 91:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 92:Spotless. Leather sofa in lounge area, two televisions, tea/coffee facilities, with complimentary milk in fridge and biscuits. Branded shower gels/soap in bathroom - heated towels. The little touches that make a difference!! We would most definitely recommend the Balmoral.

Review 94:Quality of room excellent & much better than price suggests. Food & service also excellent. Very warm welcome from friendly staff.

Review 102:The bed in my room on the second floor was a bit creaky.

Review 103:Very nice meal on a sunny July evening in the beer garden. Friendly welcoming staff. 2 very nice rooms. Nice to have a small fridge with fresh milk in the room. Lovely bathroom. Very nice village of Moffat. Nice selection of local shops.

Review 104:Can't fault anything.

Review 105:Way exceeded our expectations. Bedroom was spacious with plenty storage and flat screen TV. Separate huge lounge with recliner leather sofas, flat screen TV, fire, and small kitchen area with tea, coffee, milk and LOTS of biscuits. Also complimentary bottled water and lots of Fox's Glacier Mints. Ensuite was spacious and had fluffy robes. The whole place and everything in it was spotless and smelled of fresh laundry. Breakfast (and the choice available) was first class. All this and the hotel sits right on the Main Street so very convenient. Solid walls so didn't hear a sound through the night. Highly recommended and we'll definately go back.

Review 106:Could have done with a larger bed in room 9.

Review 107:Hospitality, good staff, totally unexpected comfort to the maximum - we had en-suite bedroom plus an extra sitting room with extras - what a welcome to Scotland - tea bags. full biscuit barrel, fresh milk in fridge!

Review 108:I can find nothing to make comment on here.

Review 109:For the tariff we were on our facilities ticked all the boxes and quite a few more that are not listed, this hotel exceeded my expectations by a mile.

Review 110:The accommodation consisted of a lounge/kitchen area and a bedroom with an ensuite shower room. There is plenty of space and a biscuit barrel stocked with fresh biscuits. The packed lunch was very good - we were given sandwiches, drinks, crisps and chocolate biscuit bars. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The parking outside is free and opposite the hotel.

Review 111:Although we enjoyed our evening meal, breakfast was very average and the bar where it's served could do with a bit of a revamp.

Also caddies full of teas, coffee, sugar and biscuits instead of a few sachets - nice touches! Also large reclining leather sofas - an unexpected treat! TV in sitting room and bedroom.
