Reviews for Shamrock Guest House

Review 1:The room could have done with a bedside lamp. Only had a good night's sleep with the help of earplugs, nearby road traffic was loud even with the window closed. If you are a lightsleeper, earplugs are a must. As mentioned by someone else earlier, the top room retains heat well, and in warm summer weather may be tricky to get proper rest, probably the guesthouse could introduce a fan in the room for warm seasons (as seen and appreciated elsewhere). There was definitely something of crawly biting nature on the sheets, I only got asleep after removing all the tiny speckles from the sheet, but I have no idea what are these. Unfortunately cannot not mention, it obviously needs addressing, probably not such an issue if sleeping clothed. Also the water is extremely hard, again dechlorinating shower filter could maybe be made use of.

Review 2:Hassle free service, some self catering facilities are there, i.e. a fridge, a microwave oven, a kettle and basic dishware with cereal and hot drink packets provided. I liked there were no issues with hot water in the shower and the shower cabin size was reasonable, in other budget accomodation it is sometimes too miniature or cant get the shower the way you need. Only hands soap provided, no shampoo or bathing soap. You get one towel and soft tissues are conveniently provided in the room. TV and remote. Not much more one would ask for while travelling and for the price of £34 I paid, too.

Review 3:nth major but staff gave me a towel ( means for shower ) but was no body wash !! whats the point ! otherwise no complain at all

Review 4:Everything was there! parking behind the hotel, comfortable bed, main thing for me was tea, coffee when i wake up, even some extra like corn flakes and a pint of fresh milk, very close to town where restaurants are,had a fridge, and the price for £35 is very good i guess!

Review 5:bed a bit soft for my liking, bedside light not working. Room was smaller than usual (first time stayed in top floor room). Very hot in room, even when we turned radiator off and window was wide open. car parking can be difficult as on a main road so no parking right outside

Review 6:fridge and microwave in room, 5 mins walk from town centre

Review 7:Shower was not great Clearly run on a tight budget

Review 8:Bargain. Friendly staff Free milk and cereal is a bonus The view of the Sikh Temple, causing me to wake up thinking I'm in India when I'm actually in exotic Gravesend ;-)

Review 9:There was no soap or shampoo.i have wash dirty cups in sink next toilet.also fill kettle twice same place. Not heigene.

Review 10:Only thing i like guest house i was easy to get to.

Review 11:The price reflects the level of comfort, its basic but it does the job.

Review 12:very friendly hotel owner; excellent value for money, the fridge in the room was a plus.

Review 13:The room smelled like an ashtray that had been badly disguised with an excess of washing powder. (The bedding was clean, hence the washing powder smell!) The curtains were so dirty and smelly that I felt uncomfortable being in the same room as them. The house was more like a slightly seedy halls of residence than a guest house. Okay for one night, but wouldn't go back.

Review 14:The person at the reception desk was friendly and helpful.

Review 15:Bit noisy from passing traffic on main road as we had a room on the road side but didn't bother us too much, better with the window shut.

Review 16:Friendly helpful owner, very clean, great shower, comfy bed.

Review 17:Didnt like the fact there was only a main light in the room. A lamp would not go amiss for the evening. Also the beds very lumpy springs etc and sore on the back probably cheap mattresses.

Review 18:Facilities for self catering were great and the people were so friendly and helpful. Overall good for the price as most Hotels over £300 :)

Review 19:The first 2 rooms offered had NO WARDROBE. not even any hanging place for clothes. The bedding was very old worn and shabby. The room we stayed in did have a wardrobe but it was shaky and wobbly . Locals we met were horrified when we said where we were staying.

Review 20:Very handy for the centre of Gravesend and close to the temple where we were attending a wedding. Safe parking available. The member of staff we dealt with was pleasant and helpful. He tried his best to please us by offering 3 different rooms.

Review 21:FRIDGE THAT MAKES A NOISE AT 3 AM ROOM NEEDED SOME COMFORT TOUCHES, FURNITURE OBVIOUSLY SECOND HAND, NO PICTURES, NO PERSONALITY. EVERYWHERE SMELT OF SMOKE

Review 22:STAFF - HELPFUL

Review 23:did not find any problems with our stay

Review 24:availabiltyto city center, close to seashore and park, very good value, staff very helpful with information, would stay again

Review 25:half the shower head was dirty and grubby which was not good but it was on ly half dirty so tip clean shower head bed bit small for being when your tall but it was comfy on a pos This cant be helped but on main road so cars going thou all night but youths shouting taking loud all hours of the morning out side not good

Review 26:Microwive and frigde in the room the space in the room good loo and shower space great tv ceral in the room tea and coffee you even get given a pint of milk not little things but a full pint each awesome bed was comfy so total 9 OUT OF 10 which is a good rating and great cost and near to town centre

Review 27:No coffee, wardrobe falling over, main railway Linetwork out side windows, plumbing in the bathroom misaligned water on the floor from the basin.

Review 28:Cost, easy booking in, easy to find

Review 29:The mattress was rather thin, and the bed springs made their presence known whenever I moved. Our room was directly next to the road, which is pretty busy. After closing the window, noise was acceptably reduced. There were a couple of other issues, but as I left in the morning before the owner was up, I could not raise them with him, so it would not be fair to raise them here before giving him a chance to respond.

Review 30:Within walking distance of the town centre. Very pleasant and polite owner. Adequate parking. Enough room for my 13yr old son and me to relax. Free wifi in the room. Double glazing helped reduce the road noise. Decent flat screen TV. we were supplied with milk for the plentiful choice of cereals. Tea bags, coffee, kettle and spoons were all supplied.

Review 31:The noise from the mosque at 5.30am was a bit much that early. The ventilation was poor in our room with no access to a fan.

Review 32:Very friendly place to stay. Clean room and lovely staff.

Review 66:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel was situated very close to town and the rugby club where we were attending a family party. The price was good,

Review 67:didnt like the stairs as thet are rather awkward at the top just outside my room, I found them difficuly to negotiate with my luggage.

Review 68:I liked the privacy of my room, the private toilet and shower, the quietness, and the nice walcome.

Review 69:Don't judge a book by its cover. Outside leaves a lot to be desired, however perfect inside for a 1 night stay and great value for money. Clean basic room.

Review 70:Very smokey atmosphere. As a non smoker not good. Noisey, my room was situated right by the railway, bed wasn't comfortable, mattress was old and very soft, every time I moved the springs would sound. Personally, it was too hot and no way of increasing ventilation.

Review 71:Friendly owner

Review 72:Stale smell of cigarettes Mold cloakroom Tea & coffee cheap & nasty

Review 73:Clean & Comfy bed Friendly, helpful staff Clean carpet Nicely tiled cloakroom

Review 74:Parking was a worry but the owners were so helpful and we were within yards of the premises.

Review 75:Excellent novel idea for cheap stopover. Although no hot food where do you get a microwave, cereal kettle and tea. Brilliant for the money and a good size TV.

Review 76:the premises stunck of smoke the moment you walked through the front door. our first room smelt even worse, we moved to a second room, this was slightly better, BUT there where hairs in the bed, bathroom door had to be kicked to open it, and room had cobwebs and dust

Review 77:The bed was rather old and the furniture in general a bit tatty.

Review 78:It was good to have a table and a fridge in the room. The ensuite shower room was nice.

Review 79:Perfect place to say at a very reasonable price. The attending manager (possibly also the owner?) was extremely friendly when we arrived late. Room is simple, but has a fridge and breakfast cereals + milk. Parking is perfect behind the hotel (we could leave our car there after checking out). Location is perfect for central Gravesend and the waterfront.

Review 80:Off- putting from outside, not a very high class area, but good, clean value for money.

Review 81:Location exactly right for my weekend activities. The staff very friendly and helpful. The accomodation although very basic was clean and comfortable and just right for the price.I would stay there again.

Review 82:1.The room corners had too much accumulated dust, with nail cuttings from previous guests. 2. No hot breakfast. 3. The BED was creaky - not good for young couple. 5. Only handwash provided - No body wash in bathroom.

Review 83:1. The shower was clean.

Review 84:Even for someone who is young and athletic such as myself, some of the steps going towards the middle floor were really steep to a point where I wouldn't realise the drop - I am not sure how less mobile people would cope with this.

Review 85:Free wifi Modern en-suite Plenty of tea/coffee supplied to last a few days. Microwave and TV.

Review 86:Beds need to be replaced, as does some of the room furniture, a chairwould be nice

Review 87:Closeness to the town centre, quiet despite it's location, showerreally good
