Reviews for The Portpatrick Hotel

Review 1:No cleaning done, bed change, towel change or even toilet roll refilled.

Review 2:Loved the location. The apartment was large and spacious. Great for 3 year old to run about

Review 3:Value for money - cost roughly twice the equivalent stay in a Premier Inn with similar standard facilities.

Review 4:Location - views across the town and out to sea.

Review 5:Great location. Beautiful view of the village of Portpatrick below. Easy walk into town. We stayed in the 3 BR apartment and it was roomy and clean. Great value!

Review 6:Didn't like the poor decor and fittings in the rooms and the plaster patches and peeling paint and dirty windows. Also the quality of the cooked breakfast's was poor.

Review 7:The staff and the view.

Review 8:The room was small and badly lit. The shower was "controlled from the taps and pretty lethal- scalded or frozen! There was no cut up chilled fruit/ croissants /rolls etc to pick from for breakfast and only cheap sliced brown bread which you had to toast yourself.

Review 9:Nice view across the bay. The cooked breakfast was hot and well cooked.Tea and coffee brought to the table and nice and hot.

Review 10:no where to plug in hairdryer near a mirror. Apartment would be so much nicer with a little lick of paint and some nice scatter cushions and side lamps. Radiators should NEVER be painted anything but white. A lot of draft coming through apartment front door. Chamber maid staff did not pay attention to detail when making the bed, very roughly finished. Breakfast portions for a child 1 egg 1 piece bacon etc. Perhaps designed to suit the older clientele but my hubby would have preferred a bigger portion.

Review 11:public areas, bed and bedding. Staff good but very over worked. Seemed to me there should have been more on duty especially during breakfast service. Lovely public areas. This hotel will be quite something when and if they get to refurbishing all the rooms as well.

Review 12:Apartment was a little cold in the mornings and evenings as heating didn't come on until 9pm at night and not at all in the morning. Additional heaters were supplied but weren't really sufficient. The old external door really needs replacing as the wind howls through the large gaps.

Review 13:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Apartment was spacious. Kitchen and bathroom were well equipped, and bed was extremely comfortble. Bar and restaurant were available as needed and food was good. There were fantastic views from all windows and lovely walks close by. Would recommend.

Review 14:For what we paid £278 for 2 nights the bedroom decor was chosen by someone who must have been colour blind. The shower was a joke. The mattress had seen better days & the breakfast was service station food of 30 years ago.

Review 15:room and kitchen utensils not clean, damp patches on walls, no window in lounge area, rather dreary wall coverings.

Review 16:wonderful views down to the harbour, room was quiet, good bed

Review 17:The web said we could get in at 3 pm, but it was 3.30. Abit of a problem when your only staying one night. Also we had a meal in the restaurant, the food was fair, but the dining room was large, no atmosphere with tables just in lines. It would be nice to have back ground music. Much better with

Review 18:The view from our apartment of the sea was wonderful

Review 19:Apartment could do with some tlc, decor a bit dated , water stains on the roof and paint chipped of in places

Review 20:Great location and great views, apartments very spacious

Review 21:No wi fi connection in the bedroom. Cereal Breakfast laid out in bulk to suit guests on bus tours rather than more homely arrangement to suit independent guests. Would have preferred selecion of fruits to be displayed. Restocking of juices, cereals, bread and bowls not conducted frequently enough until the end of the breakfast service. Hotel should consider altering windows in the reception area or building an extended two storey glass structure to maximise the views over the harbour and encourage guests to linger over coffee/drinks while admiring the view.Apartment guests would have own glass enclosed patio.

Review 22:Room with a view.Friendly staff.Position of hotel. Parking available. Hot breakfast selection very good and delicious.Generous fruit selection available on requestBreakfast restaurant staff very friendly and capable.

Review 23:Housekeeping is patchy - windows inside and out - dirty, spiders' webs and dead flies inside - outside difficult to keep clean as very near the sea.

Review 24:Position and view.

Review 25:JUST WISHED WE HAD BOOKED A WEEK INSTEAD OF ONE NIGHT. APARTMENT COULD DO WITH SOME GENERALY REPAIRS BUT HAVING ONLY STAYED ONE NIGHT THE POSITIVES OUTWEIGHTED ANY NEGATIVES.

Review 26:THE HOTEL HAS A FAB VIEW AND HAS PLENTY OF CHARACTER. THE RECEPTION STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL. OUR APARTMENT WAS HUGE AND WELL EQUIPPED. WOKE UP AND LOOKED OUT TO SEA .... FAB,

Review 27:Bedroom was cold and took a long time to heat up with 2 small electric heaters. Bed was hard and lumpy...very uncomfortable. Hardly any sleep. Hot water took a long time to come through.

Review 28:The view was amazing. The position of hotel in relation to golf course and harbour/town facilities was excellent.

Review 29:Checkout time of 10.00 is far too early. Felt rushed, which was a shame in an otherwise wonderful stay.

Review 30:Helpful, friendly and efficient staff made this a delightful and relaxed break. Stylish decor in the public areas and wonderful views of Portpatrick harbour from the hotel's clifftop vantage point.

Review 31:No bad experiences, staff very friendly.

Review 32:Accommodation was first class and the views were great - helped by the lovely weather of course. We wanted to have a relaxing holiday and that's what we got. Ideal base for a quick trip over to Belfast as well. Unfortunately had to check out early due to our young son being unwell. Definitely recommend this apartment (number 2).

Review 33:The apartment was lovely, plenty room, all the rooms were clean, the bed was comfy and room well equipped. We had 2 rooms and the other looked great too. The outlook from the window was glorious we had a sea view, and a view of the village definately would visit again.4

Review 34:Breakfast was ok. Had full English which had obviously been cooked much earlier and kept warm.

Review 35:Clean room, nicely decorated and sea view. Lots of hot water and nice touches, bubble bath, soap etc

Review 36:Nice to see an older style hotel being invested in. The common rooms feel like they have been recently renovated and all is clean and modern. Bedrooms are serviceable and pleasant enough. Breakfast OK but surprised at no haggis or back pudding on offer!

Review 37:Very spacious and well appointed self catering apartment. Contemporary decor which was very much to my taste. There were a couple of minor glitches which I took up with the management and they are very happy to sort these out Apartment 1 (of 3) I think is in the best position at the end of the building. Great access to the beautiful outside space and picnic table and benches for just soaking in the incredible view. Weather was also superb!!!!! 5 mins walk from great golf course. Enjoyable bar food which I could eat in the reception area as only real area for me to access wifi.

Review 38:apartments could be amazing with a few small upgrades, bedrooms lovely but main seating area very poor and dark due to little light from front door, bring the theme from the main hotel into the apartments and I would return.

Review 39:location, view, friendly staff, main hotel lovely

Review 40:Disappointed at first with breakfast on day one. Rectified on day 2 by asking for 2 of everything. Oh and not keen on their scrambled egg! Still a great hotel.

Review 41:Great location and view. All the staff we had contact with were excellent from check in to check out

Review 42:The shower is just an attachment to the bath and I could only get the temperature scalding hot or freezing cold, quite disappointing.

Review 43:Great location, didn't get to make the most of the view due to thick fog unfortunately :(

Review 44:Food in diningroom poor. Ordered chefs specialty which turned out to be Scampii from frozen packet and was monkfish not Scampi. Then asked for salad of blue cheese, walnuts , pear and rocket which is a favourite salad of mine but the one I got was blue cheese, walnuts, tinned pear sliced (!) and little gem lettuce (not rocket)

Review 45:The décor was extremely depressing. Very disappointing to see black and grey everywhere - we wouldn't sit in the lounges - not welcoming at all. We had a superior room but the wall behind the bed was either black of dark navy blue - this needs to be addressed. The hotel is such a magnificent building but first impressions are so important. The poor staff, however, had the most garish lime-green shirts on! The dining room tables could do with covers on.

Review 46:The situation of the hotel is perfect and the view we had of the harbour and the sea was brilliant.

Review 47:Room 109, above kitchen and expel air fan was on for most of the day, it was noisy and disctactinf

Review 48:The complimentary upgrade, the very kind receptionist moved us due to the kitchen expel air below room 109! Very greatful......

Review 49:A particularly unprofessional gentleman on reception desk could not work the technology and was far too informal and inappropriately chatty. He said he couldn't work out the prices, some were paying £50, £52 - then he looked at my bill and said I owed £59!. Seemed to be the main guy which was concerning. The bed needed a mattress topper as the mattress was fine but you could feel the ridges. I was pretty staggered that the restaurant served sweetcorn from a frozen packet as one of the side vegetables in the evening meal. In the morning breakfast, the scrambled egg tasted of literally nothing which suggests it was powdered egg. I can see that there has been investment by the owners but the outside and upstairs looked really dodgy. I arrived in the dark, had I arrived in daylight - I wouldn't have stayed there at all.

Review 50:very efficient friendly girl on reception, who doubled up as a very good waitress. All waitresses were good. The room was clean with great views.

Review 51:Arrived very late in The evening because of bad weather. Staff went out of their way to ensure my dad and I had something to eat and drink. Lovely location. Handy stop for Irish ferries.

Review 52:There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Review 53:The hotel was lovely. It was modern in decoration which I wasn't expecting. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I had a single room which was a true reflection of the photo's on the website.

Review 54:The shower in our room was unreliable and the towel rail didn't work

Review 55:The staff are so pleasant and helpful all guests have to do is relax and enjoy their surroundings

Review 56:The rooms overall were very good but were let down by a couple of details. First impressions are excellent but details like the state of the rotten window frame. It could at least get painted to disguise the rot not left black. The peeling ceiling also needs sorting. And the mattress felt very thin. But the overall standard in the room and the bathroom were good The breakfast was OK. Felt the portion size a little on the small side for a 'full' breakfast. one sausage, one bacon, etc, is a bit mean. For price of room expect a full Scottish, couple of sausages, 2 rashers bacon, tattie scone (we are in Scotland - hash brown ain't scottish), mushrooms. These two points improved and the stay would have been excellent.

Review 57:Location. General décor.

Review 58:We could not fault the hotel or staff as they were very friendly and helpful we had an excellent couple of days in Portpatrick .We would stay their again excellent staff. We would give this hotel 10/10

Review 59:Obvious signs of previous water ingress in our room. It was raining heavily and caused damp smell, no way of ventilating room. Hotel is very big and a bit sole less.

Review 60:The views, friendly staff

Review 61:The food was really poor. We ate dinner in the restaurant both myself and my husband were unhappy with our meal. I sent back my main course and both our starters were burnt. The restaurant reminded me of a school dinner hall. Despite the hotel being less than half full we were in a very poorly furnished old fashioned room with very little view. The bed was very uncomfortable.

Review 62:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The entrance and corridors and the bar in the hotel were modern.

Review 63:Room tired and required facelift.Bathroom shower poor and hair drier and iron in the same category.

Review 64:Very good value good breakfast and evening meal.. enjoyed your free pitch n putt facility.

Review 65:Some of the staffs people skills, or the lack of ........
