Reviews for The West Park Hotel

Review 1:Jan 2016 - May not be one of the "grander" hotels in Harrogate (that look imposing outside but are often tired inside), but in my opinion it knocks them all into a Cocked Hat. A great location, ideal size (i.e. small enough to be intimate yet big enough carry a good atmosphere/vibe). Extremely comfortable, great staff, excellent food and standards of service, spotless, modern yet timeless décor, great Bar. Just book it!

Review 2:Great location, everywhere is easily walkable. Very comfortable room with lovely bathroom. Quality of food is really excellent and staff are all friendly & helpful.

Review 3:Nothing. Everything was exceptional

Review 4:Everything was spot on including, staff, service, reception, food, cleanliness and location. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the friendly staff. Would definitely visit again.

Review 5:The breakfast was very disappointing. My partners porridge tasted like ready brek and kedgeree that tasted as though it was a day old. I had eggs florentine. The hollandaise was very vinegary tasting. The food at the help your self bar however was nice

Review 6:The room was really superb. The nicest room I've stayed in.

Review 7:This is a relatively small hotel, which makes it personal, and you are made to feel very welcome. Our room was luxuriously fitted out with good quality furnishings. The dinner we had in the restaurant was second to none. The location was fantastic. It ticked every box for us.

Review 8:A little bit pricey but it is Christmas so we thought we'd spoil ourselves!

Review 9:The hotel was immaculately clean, was conveniently located and the staff were very attentive. The breakfast had a great selection and everything was very well cooked and presented.

Review 10:No negatives

Review 11:Excellent from start to finish! Staff couldn't do enough for you. Proper Yorkshire welcome. Very stylish interiors. Love the 'brew cupboard' and the toiletries.

Review 12:Could have provided more toiletries- a bit stingy for two people and even though they were happy to provide more it would be nice not to have to ask. Pillows rather firm but that's a personal preference.

Review 13:Excellent staff, very friendly and efficient. Superbly comfortable beds. Water provided in room was very welcome plus excellent coffee machine and decent teabags.

Review 14:Nothing!

Review 15:Fantastic on reception desk! Only booked my stay 30 mins before arrival and they had it all organised! Very nice rooms indeed, lots of space and great sized en-suite! Great location, not too close to town but easy walking distance!

Review 16:Only negative is that while we were eating breakfast a member of staff told us that we weren't entitled to it despite us pre paying for it through booking.com . It was very embarrassing as other guests were close by , she eventually apologised and agreed that breakfast was paid for.

Review 17:Friendly staff very clean, food excellent , bathroom and bedroom excellent quality , with tea and nespresso machine in room , would definitely stay again recommended

Review 18:The hotel reception is in the middle of the hotel. The brasserie and bar/coffee lounge are at the front of the hotel. Feel hotel guests' comfort is compromised in order for the bar/brasserie to attract passing trade from the main street. The brasserie lacks atmosphere and seating is too close to the front door, also very noisy in my experience, due to low ceilings/poor acoustics.....and to be nit picky the fixed shower head in our bathroom was rather low; If you are over 5' 8" you'll need to bend your legs!!

Review 19:The West Park is in a great location convenient for the town centre. The room was comfortable with smart modern decor. Loved the fact that mirrors, electrical sockets, etc. were in all the right places! Only sampled lunch and breakfast in the brasserie but the food was delicious. Underfloor heating in the bathroom, lovely fluffy white bathing towels and robes. Great selection of brandies at the bar.

Review 20:Just ok throughout, but nothing great. Quality is lacking. It looks good on the surface but actually there is something missing in the quality in almost every area (except cleanliness).

Review 21:Location

Review 22:Only a very minor point, had to wait 40 minutes to be served breakfast.

Review 23:Great staff, very helpful. Fantastic room, very clean and spacious, great facilities.

Review 24:We didn't like the disabled bathrooms mainly because we are not disabled, it is very awkward especially when you're a tall person.

Review 25:The staff were all vey friendly, and the food in the restaurant was excellent .

Review 26:The breakfast experience was awful. Poor choice of buffet breakfast. I had to ask staff 3 times for more milk for cereal, spoons on the table and tea and coffee. Very poor quality poached eggs on toast which was soggy. It needs vast improvement in efficiency of staff and food quality. The hairdryer was poor as was the hair shower in the bath which didn't work.

Review 27:Location to the town centre was excellent and within easy walking distance. We received a free upgrade to a suite overlooking the stray. Room was spotless. A birthday card left on the bed for my husband was a lovely touch as our break was for my husbands special birthday treat.

Review 28:Dinning room for evening meal was linked to the bar area, which spoilt our dining experience because of the noise

Review 29:We enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying again

Review 30:The restaurant was very busy and a bit overwhelming and noisy in the evening

Review 31:Really warm welcome, staff are pleasant, professional and efficient. Stayed in room 102 which had no view to speak of but was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Hotel restaurant is excellent and gets busy at the weekends with locals.

Review 32:.HAD THE YORKSHIRE BREAKFAST,ASKED FOR THE EGGS TO BE TURNED OVER BUT THEY STILL CAME UNTURNED AND BARELY COOKED ON THE TOP, ALSO VERY GREASY

Review 33:FROM THE FIRST WELCOME, TO THE LAST DRINK BEFORE BED ,THE STAFF WERE EXCELLENT,SURROUNDINGS BEAUTIFUL.

Review 34:We were given a disabled room, which meant the bathroom was far from ideal for a relaxing soak in the small bath. Shower water pressure was poor. Staff didnt offer anything other than an apology, but they should have told us at check-in that we had been allocated a disabled room. we left our cases as the room wasnt ready and returned at 5pm, when we realised it was a disabled room, there was no chance to move. No offer of discount only the assurnace that on a future stay they would ensure we got a 'normal' room. Air con/heating was difficult to control, hot/cold or fan noisy.

Review 35:Nice modern well fitted bedrooms and hotel bar

Review 36:Ensuite in standard room was a bit awkward in that the basin was hung very low and the monsoon shower over the bath was too low to be able to stand under. We are not exceptionally tall!

Review 37:Excellent food and friendly staff

Review 38:The bar & resaurant are combined and on the Sunday night we visited there was live music and not very good live music in the bar, conversation was impossible. Even the waiting staff had to shout to make themselves heard. If you are looking for a peaceful meal in the restaurant. Forget it on a Sunday. Quality of breakfast only average. My Wife had pancakes which were badly cooked. Lack of hotel parking.

Review 39:Bedroom very spacious & comfortable

Review 40:We didn't have time for a third lunch at Bettys !!!

Review 41:Very friendly staff that seemed genuinely happy to help. Best hotel we have visited in Harrogate, most of them are very tired looking inside. The hot water never ran out, even at the busiest times.

Review 42:didn't like the shower was difficult to regulate the tempature and had to phone recepition to find out how to get the main shower spray on

Review 43:nice modern hotel very clean and very upmarket

Review 44:We did have a problem with the bill and when we pointed out that we had been charged for drinks in the bar that we hadn't had they refunded £6 out of the £6.99 we couldn't be bothered to argue but left us thinking do they do this often.

Review 45:This was a an excellent hotel that I would not hesitate to recommend to anybody. We really enjoyed the room and the meal in the dining room.

Review 46:The shower in our room was leaking, and it was very difficult to regulate the room temperature (very warm regardless of adjustments)

Review 47:Excellent location and very friendly staff

Review 48:Customer service is close to non existent. Both the check-in desk and breakfast area staff are inattentive, unaccommodating, questioning customers, mistrusting and made everything in their power to make us feel unwelcome. We arrived for breakfast with only 20min to spare for breakfast because we had to catch the train. Before being seated we informed the staff about our tight time schedule and were told breakfast would not take longer than 5/10min tops to be served. Rather than taking our order straight away we were asked to sit down and had to wait for the waitress to leisurely stroll to our table 5min later. She then decided come back another minutes later to reconfirm it. All-in-all after waiting for 20min for full English in a not very busy restaurant with nothing arriving in that time, not even the toast, we had to leave empty handed despite paying for our breakfast. Upon notifying the staff at reception, the response was "let me check what time exactly you arrived to the restaurant and how long exactly you had to wait", thus pretty much implying they did not trust customer's feedback with no further apology.

Review 49:Absolutely nothing!

Review 50:Perfect location both centrally in Harrogate and for the Game Fair at Harewood House. The staff were, without exception, friendly and courteous. The room was pristine and very comfortable

Review 51:Window didn't shut properly so outside noise easily heard. Smokers outside till after mid night.

Review 52:Vibrant hotel/pub. Staff a plenty and helpful.

Review 53:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms beautifully decorated. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent. Would recommend to anyone

Review 54:Recently remodelled and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpfull would be very hard to justify any serious complaint the facilities were good and so nice to have a bar in such a small hotel to relax in. Popular with non residents who use the restaurant and bar which all adds to the buzz. Our room was in the back (in new extension) and was nice and quite with lift to upper floors and climate control, good size bathroom and large bath and shower. Great location in Harrogate overlooking the park with outside seating for al fresco dinning or drinks and watch the world go bye.

Review 55:Very clean, friendly and luxurious hotel within walking distance of the town centre. Lots of little extra touches which made our hotel stay a fantastic experience and s definite place to return to.

Review 56:Our food was appalling ! I had lobster which equated to 3 fork full ofmeat , we were not the only table sending food back . . 7 of us in total! And the chef would not appear , we are from Lancashire surrounded bymitchellin restaurants . . Very very poor reflection of the Hotel Sackthat Chef !

Review 57:The staff were exceptional Clemence and duty manager

Review 58:When I mentioned at check in that we were celebrating 10 yrs of marriage we got upgraded to a suite!! The hotel was beautifully decorated & staff, food & service were excellent.

Review 59:Breakfast service was unacceptably slow and of poor quality for the class of hotel. I will never book "bed and breakfast" again at this hotel, just stick to the lovely hotel and take breakfast next door at Weetons is exceptional and so so much better, and only 10 yards away. The car park next door getting locked at night.

Review 60:Location, great bar are and restaurant in the evening, Certainly go again (but without breakfast!). New system for paying £2 for overnight parking in the muti-story next door is much better than the old method of paying for the day,

Review 61:Our room on 3rd floor had a noise Air con and in the morning the water noise was quite annoying. The worst thing was being told at breakfast our pre auto had run out and we needed to pay cash - very embarrassing in a full room. Also 15 continental breakfast was poor , just breads cereals although the eggs benidictcwas good. When pointing these thing out got a reduction. Overall nice place but they need to fine tune

Review 62:Newly decorated to high standard, good location, easy off site parking. Dinner very good indeed, good range of drinks esp Brandies. Staff very attentive with out being intrusive.

Review 63:Bar/ restaurant was very busy, but to be expected on a Saturday night. I felt that the restaurant staff were trying hard to make it look effortless, but weren't quite pulling it off. The food was acceptable, but I've had better in similar style hotels and felt they were trying a bit too hard with the menu. Don't let this put you off though, there are plenty of great restaurants nearby, and a much better breakfast at Weeton's, two doors down for half the price.

Review 64:High quality boutique hotel where the staff and management were very keen to ensure we were happy. Our suite was spotless and very well appointed. Based upon the previous reviews it was exactly as we expected it to be, and we weren't disappointed.

Review 65:Dessert was not fantastic but the starters and mains wonderful.

Review 66:Pleasant and helpful staff. Rooms very clean and well stocked with towels gown toiletries etc their chunky chips are superb!

Review 67:Found the bed a bit hard. Bit of a pain not having a fridge in the room.

Review 68:Very friendly staff, good food in the restaurant and superb selection of brandies!

Review 69:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable; lots of lovely little touches like the coffee machine and I especially liked the rubber duck in the bath! The food in the restaurant was fabulous and the waiter was very attentive and friendly but not intrusive. If I were to visit Harrogate again I would definitely stay here.

Review 70:The price was inflated because of trade show usual price for room 99 stg the price I paid was 160 stg with no breakfast. Room a little small for price paid. No off street parking

Review 71:I would love to have this night back. Terrible service. Depressing vibe. No parking. No one to help with luggage. You have to drag it in through their restaurant while they stare at you. Curt, indifferent desk reception. Their advertised "high-speed" internet wouldn't even load a page. When I asked them to re-set the router, the desk clerk said, "My colleague will help you turn on your computer." My computer isn't the problem not is my ability to turn it on. The problem is your hotel...Language problem. Service problem. Hospitality problem.

Review 72:Nothing was a problem, called for an Iron and it was in the room within 10 mins. Friendly and helpful receptionist advised on easiest and quickest way to travel due to Great Yorkshire Show.

Review 73:We unfortunately had a room next to the industrial air con unit so it was noisy all night. Staff dealt with our complaint very well and so we will go back.

Review 74:All looked new and pristine in the room, as was the rest of the hotel. Staff were very friendly, always had smile and were helpful. Right next to a good multi storey car park that is not expensive. Easy walk to the shopping and restaurant areas. Good bar

Review 75:It was a surprise birthday stay for my husband. The hotel, staff, food and location was the best we have experienced. We will all be definitely returning to the place which made our weekend extra special. Thank you.

Review 76:Good location, very helpful and polite staff, well furnished, tastefully decorated room, nice breakfast with plenty of choice, spotlessly clean everywhere.

Review 77:Nothing

Review 78:First time at this hotel and need to think of a good excuse to stay again! Clean, beautifully decorated room with a large bathroom and view over the stray (Derwent room) and we could not fault the hotel at all. The live music in the bar also added to drinks when we met family for dinner! Just book this place, HdV doesn't even come close to this place... Book The West Park, you will not regret it!

Review 79:We were spoilt with a room upgrade on our arrival which made our stay really special and unexpected. We thought the staff were so friendly and went over and above to make sure our stay was a happy one, thank you, we will come back!

Review 80:Small issue but the safe was fiddly and hard to use as at a bottom of a cupboard but can't really fault the hotel.

Review 81:Good well appointed suite with two bathrooms and recently refurbished to a high standard. Great service from the staff especially Jenni and breakfasts excellent. Good location just a 5 minute walk to Bettys and the centre of Harrogate!

Review 82:Having to make own toast, it was busy so always a queue & they ran out of bread for the toaster. Gave up in the end.

Review 83:Thank you so much for the upgrade to the Penthouse Suite, which made the stay not just great but amazing. Would consider this option in the future, as it has a guest bathroom & sofa bed would be good value if shared between 4. Staff were efficient & welcoming Quality décor Next time will stay longer

Review 84:Nothing to dislike or complain about.

Review 85:Far enough away from the centre with a great view of the Stray (common grassland). Lovely, helpful staff throughout. Can't recommend this hotel enough. This is our 3rd visit & each time we stay longer.

Review 86:Room was ready an hour early and we had a free upgrade from a standard double to a suite (which was gorgeous). We ate dinner at the hotel which was a bit pricey but worth every penny and then some! The staff were fabulous, friendly and attentive and very good at what they did.

Review 87:Loved the West Park hotel, but thought it was quite expensive for a standard double room.

Review 88:Really friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious and the hotels location was brilliant.

Review 89:what can I say what an excellent hotel. From start to finish the staff are so welcoming from reception to housekeeping bar staff and Resturant and will be coming back for sure thank you

Review 90:Nothing to say here!

Review 91:We had booked a superior suite but on arrival were upgraded to the Penthouse. It was beautifully furnished, over two floors. Huge bathroom with an enormous bath and mood lighting. Lovely l'occitane bath products. The bedroom was really comfortable with a nice big bed. Upstairs space with bar and coffee machine was great. We had room service for our evening meal at our dining table. Food was fabulous, particularly the seafood sharing platter.

Review 92:long wait for dinner because the restaurant, food was vastly over cooked when it finally arrived will not eat in the restaurant again but breakfast was nice

Review 93:Clean, friendly staff

Review 94:Nothing to not like! Perfect place! Definitely recommend!

Review 95:What is there not to like? Has everything you could want and for £100 it was definitely money well spent!Absolutely loved it. Can't wait to go again!

Review 96:We loved everything about West Park from the moment we stepped through the doors we were so impressed!! The staff are a credit to your hotel so professional so pleasant all had a smile on their faces. When we checked into our room we had a beautiful card from the receptionist lovely Adriena & staff wishing us a happy anniversary nice touch!! We can't wait to return to West Park Hotel . Thank you all.

Review 97:The prices of some drinks and restaurant food was a little pricey, but it was very good quality. For a special occasion this is not so important and you can see the menu on there website before booking

Review 98:All the staff made our 10th wedding anniversary feel really special. They really look after their guests and the hotel is centrally located with everything within walking distance.

Review 99:We dined in on our second night but unfortunately the food was very disappointing and they didn't really cater for vegetarians, however Chris the catering manager did his utmost best to put things right and reassured us that when we return the menu will be much improved so we are looking forward to going back for a second stay.

Review 100:The lovely classy room and enormous luxury bathroom. The location which was only five minutes walk into the centre of Harrogate and the friendliness of the staff who tried to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We also had an outside terrace which was an added bonus.

Review 101:nothing at all

Review 102:Friendly, efficient staff. Live singer on the Sunday night. When I arrived and entered through the bar, laden with bags, one of the waitresses came over and took my bags, then led me through to reception. Every member of staff I met went out of there way to be helpful. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and spotless.

Review 103:No parking in site but a quick call to the front desk gave me lots of helpful information about where to park. The staff all very pleasant, attentive and polite. As a business traveller a good bar and restaurant are key and they were excellent.

Review 104:The fact that we only stayed one night, we wish we coild have stayed longer, it was that good!

Review 105:The staff were welcoming and professional. Our room was upgraded at no cost to a suite. Nothing was too much trouble for the team at West Park.

Review 106:One has to be young and strong to gain access to the contents of the toiletries. I'm old and frail and could access only the bath gel.

Review 107:Suite up-grade; good food;friendly service and efficiency.

Review 108:Hard to find anything bad to say. Best Hotel we have stayed at in Harrogate

Review 109:Location/friendliness of Staff from Reception through to Waiters/ Bar Staff

Review 110:Humming noise in ceiling from AC unit or similar in another room

Review 111:We liked the attention to detail in the room, like the toiletries, robe and towels etc. lighting was tasteful and thought out. Breakfast was nice.

Review 112:The hotel is situated 5 mins walk from the town centre. We had a noise in our room and were moved to the penthouse at no extra cost, which was fabulous. When we requested extra supplies in our room they were delivered promptly

Review 113:The restaurant. It was in the bar to the open street. Really loud. We had to shout at each other to be heard. Bar staff didn't have a clue how to make a simple Harvey wallbanger or a piña colada!! Unbelievable. The bar was buzzing and fine but the restaurant for the guests should be separate and a lot more private.

Review 114:When we arrived we were upgraded to the grand depart suite and it was gorgeous. The bedroom was upstairs along with a dressing room and bathroom. Downstairs was another guest bathroom and a large sitting area. 4 tv's with one at the end of the bath! Luxurious. Could not fault it.

Review 115:Nothing at all. Ant fault it,made our visit to Harrogate even more enjoyable.

Review 116:Location great. Bedroom big, very clean and lovely decor. Bathroom high standard. Loved the coffee machine in bedroom, a treat. Staff helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough for u. Breakfast excellent. Brilliant hotel, highly recommend it.

Review 117:The bath took a long long time to fill, no bottle opener in room or cork screw, no nibbles supplied. No bin in our room so had to squash everything in the small bathroom bin. Clock not working in the room. View from terrace.

Review 118:Good location, good food (I had two of the burgers and enjoyed them), friendly staff, nice and clean, nice decor.

Review 119:The team of staff are obviously very well trained (I really don't mean that to sound patronising!). They are helpful, attentive, polite, well informed and very welcoming. The rooms are comfortable, the food is superb and the table service is second to none in my experience.

Review 120:No parking! Not to much of a problem tho, as there is a multi storey car park right next door!

Review 121:The rooms are nice, clean and fresh, beautiful bar and restaurant down stairs with classy outdoor seating areas, ( please do not hesitate to stay at this hotel ) staff are on the money!!!

Review 122:We had a wonderful stay for my partner's 30th birthday. When we arrived, we were provided with a complimentary upgrade and a birthday card, which gave it an extra special touch. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly. We will definitely visit again!

Review 123:Very clean hotel and modern comfortable, clean and relaxing bedroom. Really helpful reception staff and friendly bar/restaurant staff. Good breakfast and evening meal.

Review 124:The evening meal was bland and my husband had the lamb which we were told would be pink and when it came was still bloody and gave him stomach ache. There was a noisy party going on in the next room and it felt more like a gastro pub atmosphere than a hotel. I don't object to staying in a pub B&B but for the price we paid I expected more.

Review 125:Room and bathroom was clean and spacious enough. Staff polite and friendly.

Review 126:Prices for food . . Noise outside in the court yard late on. Shame Our room was right above the court yard so could hear it all going on.although it didn't spoil our stay . .

Review 127:Everything . .

The Fine Print

Please note that the West Park Hotel operates a strict no-smoking policy and anyone found to be smoking on the premises will incur an additional cost.
