Reviews for Grand Victorian Hotel – RelaxInnz

Review 1:Proper Victorian hotel! Warm and cozy, good bedlinen. Limited items for breakfast but those provided were cooked well and tasty. Fruit juice was good quality too. Good value for money. Ten minute walk to shopping centre and beach. Our first visit to Worthing. . .We were not disappointed.

Review 2:The bed was uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have fruit & yogurts offered at breakfast.

Review 3:The building & the Victorian style in the bar & public area. The bedroom furnishings were good.

Review 4:Shower wasn't fantastic, sofa bed was very very uncomfortable (but I suppose that's what they're notorious for!)

Review 5:The breakfast was thrown in for the price and wasn't too shabby, lovely lady on reception.

Review 6:Have to go down to order/pay food and carry up back upstairs but this is just the way it is I guess.

Review 7:Claire on reception very good, friendly, helpful.Rooms warm ,beds comfortable

Review 8:breakfast was help yourself which is fine but no choice, ie only scrambled eggs not fried. run out of breakfast on sunday so had to wait while they cooked more sausages, bacon. coffee was cold so prob there a long time

Review 9:room was comfortable and big

Review 10:In the morning the shower was lukewarm...as was the breakfast. The restaurant has a large tv on which was showing football night and day

Review 11:nicely decorated room. Very clean. Comfortable bed with fresh new sheets. Amazing old victorian building. Generous breakfast buffet

Review 12:Breakfast only scrambled eggs in hot plate, a choice eggs would of improved my breakfast, also the food was cold.

Review 13:The spacious room, not to forget the size of the bed!!

Review 14:This property is a little run down and lacking in charm. It sits over a noisy bar and the breakfast was a self-service buffet with limited choice and Luke warm hot choices.

Review 15:The hotel was adequately comfortable

Review 16:Wasn't enough vegetarian choices in restaurant.

Review 17:Clean spacious room with bar and restaurant handy. Friendly staff. Easy to book last minute online.

Review 18:I didn't like the bathroom, the bath had hair from a previous guest still in the bath itself and the bottom of the shower curtain was brown from soap scum.

Review 19:The room was nicely decorated, plenty of room provided for bags and clean towels.

Review 20:Room is very shabby and dated. Bathroom needs a refit. Bath had enamel worn away and shower head was old and rotting. Window banged all night in the wind. Very tired looking room and bathroom. Mattress was thin and very uncomfortable. Breakfast was poor. We ended up just trying the orange juice, which was poor quality. Child in the restaurant coughing all over the food put us off.

Review 21:Check in process was smooth

Review 22:Terrible bed/mattress - all springy....had my room changed and it was still the same issue. The management needs to invest more in their mattresses.

Review 23:Excellent location and good staff

Review 24:Nothing, but arrive early if you want a car parking space.

Review 25:Beautiful building esp. the interior which was stunning. Lovely room. A proper pub downstairs with good beers and food (enjoyed the tapas). Friendly staff. Breakfast good average for a hot buffet. Surprisingly quiet considering its proximity to the station.

Review 26:Breakfast was very basic. Shower area could do with refreshing

Review 27:Short walk across the road from the station. My evening meal was very nice; generous portions and flavourful. Friendly staff

Review 28:Bathroom needs some tlc, breakfast only served until 9.30 on a Sunday morning so we ended up missing it as we were out until late the night before at a birthday party.

Review 29:Lovely room but paid extra for the superior room

Review 30:The location was perfect. As for the hotel itself, the room was comfortable, quiet and relaxing with very good tea/coffee making facilities. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I hope to return soon.

Review 31:The room was slightly cold, especially in the bathroom.

Review 32:The staff was very nice and welcoming. The location is great if you're travelling by train as it's right next to the train station.

Review 33:The bathroom was very dated but that was just a minor complaint.

Review 34:The staff were absolutely lovely and although the place was old fashioned it hads LOADS of character ... Beautiful stained glass ... Great breakfast.

Review 35:Cobwebs on lampshades in bedroom Some of decor bit worn and tired looking but loved ambience

Review 36:Room very comfortable with good decor food good choice and lunch available when we arrived Friendly staff

Review 37:Although a grea help when booked in, nobody around to advise on the breakfast procedure. Food was very nice though

Review 38:Original decor retained - Bar & Rooms See aove comments also

Review 39:Not so close to town centre. Bad smells (seemingly from years and years of excess smoking) throughout. Bathroom was not totally clean and needed refreshing - shower head was broken and taped up.

Review 40:Near perfect location to Worthing station. Charming Victorian exterior aesthetic. The breakfast was included and was decent enough, which is both good and rare these days.

Review 41:The room was very good and furnishings comfortable - though I missed a chair. I also liked the old town ambience as well as its very convenient location right in the heart of Worthing.

Review 42:Our room was very small and there were no glasses in the room, only coffee mugs. Cooked breakfast was cold and limited.

Review 43:The location was very convenient and the hotel had character.

Review 44:The breakfast buffet food was not hot and the coffee was poor - just a filter jug, no espresso machine.

Review 45:The location was ideal for rail travellers. We were able to leave our luggage in a secure place when arriving early.

Review 46:Some areas showed signs of needing t.l.c.(brass dull, tiles cracked & TV ariel in room had to be repaired as signal insufficient to watch) & TV in bar rather unnecessarily loud

Review 47:period décor mixed with modern comfort, good basic English breakfast , good menu(full meals & snacks), well stocked bar & well kept beers. Problem with Room TV swiftly dealt with. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 48:The toilets in the bar area are really poorly lit, and the shower could have been a lot better.

Review 49:The hotel was really clean, the staff always greeted you wherever you were. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was good.

Review 50:Bed was a bit too soft for my liking

Review 51:The en suites were very spacious had everything you could have needed Staff friendly and approachable and the Buffett breakfast was definitely value for money

Review 52:Breakfast ingredients were of a good standard, but everything had been cooked for an 07:00 breakfast start time and left under lights - so not as good by the time I ate - 07:30. I hate to think what they would have been like by 09:00. Shower lacked water pressure.

Review 53:Good location - incredibly convenient for station on arrival, and fitted in with my plans. Bed surprisingly comfortable.

Review 54:The guys in the neighbour room were very noisy (music too laud).

Review 55:I liked the service and kindness of the staff. The facilities of the hotel and the pub, including the breakfast room, were really good and comfortable.

Review 56:This B&B is a pub, so we had a pass key to get into the hotel. This was very convenient for us as we were meeting friends, and didn't know what time we would get back. Our room was recently refurbished, very clean with the usual onsuite, and coffee making facilities. Parking was no problem, and breakfast was very good. We only saw the manager, who was very pleasant and helpful.

Review 57:Nobody at the receptionist. My delivery also got missing. The hotel should state it as part of their policy if they don't receive parcels/deliveries. Our rooms were not cleaned in the last two days of our stay and even when they were cleaned it was a shabby kind of cleaning. Bins were not emptied

Review 58:handy for the station, pleasant welcome, nicely decorated room, with a quality feel. good breakfast. and an enjoyable stay despite being wary by previous critics

Review 59:Great location, laid back atmosphere, decent sized room, windows you could open, comfy bed, pleasant staff, charming building, OK brekkie. If you're looking for luxury and 5 star services, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a convenient and clean hotel for a quick break by the coast or for a business trip, I would recommend it.

Review 60:The only negative was that I happened to be there on a Monday night which happened to be Kareoke night for the pub. It was a bit loud and some of the singers were a little, ahem, out of tune :) but not wholly unbearable.

Review 61:Proximity to the station Friendly and helpful staff Extremely comfortable bed and sizable room

Review 62:Hotel reception doesn't open until 14.00 which was rather inconvenient.

Review 63:Adjacent to Worthing station with very frequent Coast line trains, so it's ideal for getting to venues such as Brighton Conference Centre.

Review 64:Shower was more of a dribble than a shower.

Review 65:Perfect location next to the station easy to commute to Brighton. Quirky decor, friendly staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere

Review 66:Friday night very noisy due to bar entertainment. Very little hot water and the shower was very poor, ran with very little pressure and temp fluctuated a lot! Non working light bulbs in main light and bedside lamp. Stay was short so it wasn't too bad. If the stay had been longer would have mentioned to staff.

Review 67:Staff were very friendly. Location was good. Room was pleasant.

Review 68:Strong smell of detergent and cleaning fluids in the bar/ breakfast area.

Review 69:Comfortable bed, quiet room on the top eastern side of hotel. Parking available surprisingly, as it had been listed as none available.

Review 70:The room was excellent with a four poster bed we had an excellent night sleep, the food in the bar in the evening was superb great value for money , and the breakfast was 10 out of 10 superb.

Review 71:I have stayed here many times. This time I had a lovely huge 4 poster bed that was very comfy. The hotel is well situated across from the train station and a 10 minute walk from the town centre. The staff were very helpful, the hotel was very clean and tidy and the breakfast was lovely. I would recommend the place and will stay again.

Review 72:I booked the Grand Victoria Hotel for 1 night as my usual place was fully booked for the 3rd of my 3 night stay. Goodwood Revival had meant all other places were fully booked. I was given room 2. The shower curtain had a rusty coloured stain, 4 inches deep along the bottom and several hook were broken. A dresser draw had screws and tv base fittings and dust balls in it. I was being charged 109.00 pounds for this!!!! The receptionist kindly changed me to room 3. As I was attending an event in town and had other appointments I didn't pay much attention to the room location ..... until I arrived back at 10:30pm. Music was belting out of the bar - under my room. When in the bathroom I could feel the sound vibration to the top of my head. Watching, or rather listening to tv was impossible!! I went to the bar and had to shout above the noise to be heard by manager Emma. There were only about 6 people dotted around - locals, not residents. When I asked what time the music - with DJ - went on until she said 'midnight'. She refused to turn it down and the DJ belted out the last song at midnight, increasing the volume even more. Emma, DJ plus another were talking loudly in the bar and then on the pub bench under my room until 4:10 am. The bedroom double glazing windows were jammed open half way up - no way to eliminate noise. Very expensive not to sleep

Review 73:The bed and linen were comfortable. Room 2 cleaner than Room 3

Review 74:I was disappointed that the breakfast window was only from 8-9.30. We had to be away by 8am so unfortunately didn't get a chance to have the breakfast we had already paid for.

Review 75:Easy access arriving late evening. For the price in the centre of town, excellent value, nice & clean & fully functional good bath shower/ensuite.

Review 76:1-Toilet not attached to floor 2- Toilet seat attachment loose. 3-Barely a trickle from the shower. 4-Hair dryer location too far from mirror. 5- Very noisy Saturday night. 6- Breakfast pathetic.

Review 77:Proximity o to railway

Review 78:It is really expensive for the service !£89 for a very old bed and accommodation. I will not recommend this place as a solo girl as you do not feel really secure with all this men drinking alcohol in the pub. And the breakfast was really bad quality and taking place in the pub were people was hovering and puting some chemicals...

Review 79:The lady was nice working as mad. Evening taking care of the pub and morning cleaning everything.

Review 80:Unfortunately the entrance to the hotel and the pub area let it down. The room was nice, but the shower was not very good at all. The public toilets were not very clean.

Review 81:Location was fair, not too far from the sea front. Parking was better than expected.

Review 82:We arrived early not all rooms were ready but staff gave us a room for us all to get changed in and allowed us to check in other rooms as we were going straight out for the day and night.

Review 83:Our party was split over two floors. The wifi only worked on the lower floor. The member of staff I first met (not the owner) was not very friendly however, the owner was very accommodating.

Review 84:The close proximity of the train station was fantastic. The sea front was only a ten minute walk away. Extremely cheap 24hour parking nearby.

Review 85:I booked a triple room for business purposes, on coming down for breakfast, was then told by the owner that only two breakfasts were included in the price!! In addition to that, the actual food looked very unappetising, so we promptly left.

Review 86:The location was ideal for the purpose of my visit, the room was clean and well lit

Review 87:Room was very small, bed ok but not the best. Hotel in a very run down area,Somehow I didn't feel secure.

Review 88:Hotel in a great location for railway and nights out. Breakfast was fab. I like vintage and the hotel was full of interesting things.

Review 89:There was karaoke on in the evening and the noise was heard in the bed room until late. This could have disturbed young children.

Review 90:Breakfast was good, as long as you remember to ask for the eggs, as they are prepared fresh.

Review 91:I don't have any complaints.

Review 92:Fantastic location opposite the station, I expected it to be noisy but it wasn't. The staff were kind and helpful. The room was spacious and well-equipped, the bed had nice white linen and there were spotless white towels in the bathroom. Around the hotel and adjoining pub there were lots of interesting features, stained glass doors and light fittings etc.

Review 93:Breakfast was a car crash. One lady trying to cope on her own.We had to wait for the cooked breakfast to be replenished. When it was there was enough for one person so yet another wait.I had to ask for juice, bread, filter coffee. Then we discovered the toaster was not working. The filter coffee never arrived. The member of staff went to the kitchen to get us coffee and came back with two cups of God only knows what it was,it was out of a packet,as filter coffee does not have an inch of froth on the top.So we gave up on breakfast. Please do not treat customers as if they are stupid enough not to know the difference in coffee. Why was there only one member of staff working and so many discussing who they didn't want to work with etc.As soon as it was 9 30am they suddenly sprang into action to get there breakfast.Disgraceful.

Review 94:The two friendly members of staff, one being the receptionist, the other the lady attending to breakfast.

Review 95:Entrance to nightclub tatty and litter strewn. There was intrusive noise on one night of the stay - in fairness you are warned in the hotel details.

Review 96:Good location opposite railway station. Nice sympathetic decoration combining up to date fitments etc whilst retaining character of traditional building

Review 97:Breakfast , no one overseeing, tables not cleared, not enough choice. Needs a bit of TLC in corridors, feels a bit rundown.

Review 98:Very friendly & helpful staff, lovely building, lots of potential. The bedroom we were in was great, functional & comfy.

Review 99:bath was not clean, there still was hair in the bathroom from previous guests and grubby shower curtain. 1 bed had a new and very good matress, the other one was worn out and hubby ended up sleeping on floor! Spotlight directed right to the room window and turned off only at 12:30am Expected to hear music from the pub, but it was so loud that you couldn't even talk to each other in the room. First morning they ran out of coffee and no staff to be found to ask for more.

Review 100:room size was good, rooms okay, unfortunately no new matresses, at least not in all beds. Room and beds were clean. Convenient location opposite train station, but then again, when you can't sleep due to light and noise...

Review 101:It's above a pub that does karaoke until late so it is noisy in the evening. Unfortunately I arrived as two very drunk customers were basically passing out outside and one being sick all over the floor at his table at the front of the hotel. Staff members were standing at the entrance door smoking. I still don't understand why smokers stand by a door... They must do it on purpose to send their smoke indoors to share with non smokers... The decor is very old fashioned and needs a revamp. It's expensive.

Review 102:It's right opposite the station which is why I returned to this hotel, as I had to catch a train in the morning and I found it very convenient to be close to the station rather than on the seafront. But I will not do this again when I return to worthing.

Review 103:A very drap hotel best suited for people who want a good cheap drink defenatly low standard .

Review 104:The best thing was we didn't have to stay there very long

Review 105:All good really, location is convenient as near the train station, but is not near the waterfront (which we knew prior to booking)

Review 106:The staff were welcoming and the hotel had character and rooms were clean, comfortable and felt spacious enough. Nice beer garden.

Review 107:did tend to get hot at night even with a fan.

Review 108:Thought the decor was authentic and the hotel had a good ambience. Good food in the bar and a friendly staff

Review 109:Car park. A bit secluded and very small. Rooms are a bit tired and could do with modernising.

Review 110:Staff were very Welcoming. Didn't have my choice of food but it was not too bad.

Review 111:Yea we arrived on Monday 20th July at 2045 at pub hotel to the sound of Karoke was told goes off at 11 o'clock yer did go off at 11but from 9- 11 it was like having Karoke in the room and after it had finish theie were people running along The bed rooms till 1.30 -2 o'clock so don't go on a Monday

Review 112:The hotel was near the bus stop to go in to town and the traine station was a cross the road .and the breakfast was fine don't get choice eggs just scramble I think it the same every day we had the same twice you help your self .

Review 113:I was in Worthing to see a play at the Connaught theatre and the hotel was located a short (5 mins) walkaway. The hotel's close proxity to Worthing station was a plus point too.

Review 114:Not really anything...as it was also a pub and it was Saturday night I expected some noise and there were some people who did oblige with that- well into the early hours too..!

Review 115:V. handy for the train. The staff were helpful and welcoming. Obviously the building is old so some of the fixtures and furnishings looked a bit tired. They were very accommodating when we requested an early check in and have somewhere to store our bikes safely overnight..

Review 116:Two single beds not double as required. Dirty surfaces/poor cleaning standard. Cracked tiles/Missing fittings/Grubby shower curtain/ Shave light non functioning in bathroom. Small and thin towels. Limited breakfast and staff unable to keep up with demand. Warm coffee.

Review 117:Near station

Review 118:the beef sunday lunch was very poor as the beef was too tough and full of fat so could not be eaten and a glass in the bathroom would have been appreciated

Review 119:large bedroom, good breakfast ,staff friendly and parking quite good in the street

Review 120:i will return x liked it all

Review 121:The manager was so helpfull right from the telephone booking (as i had a query ) EVEN .the cleaners were friendly to the breakfast which was basic but plentyfull and delish !! and basic not in a negative way ,i would of liked black pudding mushrooms ,then i am a butchers daughter and eat masses :)))

Review 122:Rooms are fairly well presented but could do with a bit more tlc and thorough clean. Given that this is also a pub, loud music on Friday and Saturday nights can be an issue.

Review 123:Convenient location right next to the station

Review 124:It's summer. It's hot. There was a small desk fan but you couldn't adjust the direction it pointed as the hinge was broken so that it pointed right up or down at the floor. The windows were also painted shut. Far too stuffy in there as a result.

Review 125:Big bath. Constantly available hot water. Great shower.

Review 126:It needs a bit more cleaning. For example the bathroom fan is full with black dust and doesn't look nice.

Review 127:Nice and friendly stuff. Location. Authenticity and real british air.

Review 128:The hotel is also a popular pub, so evenings are likely to be noisy

Review 129:Good location opposite main railway station and a short walk to town centre and sea front . Breakfast served in attractive conservatory restaurant.

Review 130:Friday night was disco night in the bar of the hotel. We had to be up early on the Saturday morning but extremely loud music was booming through the hotel until finally at 11.45pm Frank Sinatra sang 'New York, New York' and at last peace!!!

Review 131:Very pleasant and spacious room

Review 132:However, if you have young children do be warned - there were a lot of 'potty mouths' around the bar area - not only belonging to customers but off-duty staff as well!

Review 133:Hotel is only 7 minutes walk from the town with an extremely cheap multi-storey car park nearby. Lovely seating area outside the bar and drinks were competitively priced.

Review 134:The hotel is above the pub and is very noisy in the evening however, we were staying on a Friday night and the music was turned off by 1am. While the hotel is ok, I don't think it's worth worth more than £40-£50 per night, if that. The bath was old and needs replacing. They do supply towels that are clean and nice but they are quite small if you are planning on having a bath or shower. As advertised there is no parking at the hotel which is a pain but, after 4pm you can park on the street (if you can find a space) until 11am the next day.

Review 135:The over-all look of the hotel was nice and the rooms were fine. The breakfast was very good and the staff were helpful. Good quality ale in the bar.

Review 136:i did not feel like it was very clean and it had a smell. Getting our bags up to the third floor was difficult and there was no phone in the room, and no one at the desk except at check in time. The water pressure in the shower was very poor.

Review 137:I liked that it was located right beside the train so it was easy traveling. There were taxis nearby also because it was by the train.
