Reviews for The Three Horseshoes Hotel
Review 1:Car park a short walk away via supermarket loading bay. No view from room, and room quite small.Check-in slow as a group of three ladies had arrived before us and there was only one person at the desk.
Review 2:Location was handy for town centre, breakfast was very good indeed. Decor of room and bar was very pleasant. Bathroom excellent.
Review 3:Not informed by email or phone that food would not be available during the evening, last order for food was 3 o'clock. Room cold as heating had not been turned on. Noise level from customers from the bar standing outside the room late at night. despite notice on the door leading outside asking them to use an area at the front of the building.
Review 4:Did offer soup or to warm food when asked or to book a meal at another restaurant. This happened to be a drive away though! Barnard Castle a lovely location.
Review 5:nothing,although some people may say there can be a bit of noise at night but you are staying in a town centre pub,not an issue to us and no way a negative on this well run establishment
Review 6:great friendly staff, warm clean room, great ensuite with good shower plenty of room and hot water.nice pub good selection of wines and beers.excelent breakfasts cooked to order and excellent evening food.car park short walk from rear entrance but not an issue.busses run from outside the front on galgate to plenty of places to enjoy a trip out with out the car
Review 7:Nothing!
Review 8:Friendly, helpful staff. Arrived quite late in the evening and the staff dealt with booking in quickly so that we could get a meal. The family room accomodated 3 adults comfortably and had everything need. Food in the evening and at breakfast was of a good quality and servings more than adequate!
Review 9:Toast at breakfast not v good quality but otherwise great.
Review 10:Lovely modern room with luxurious bathroom. Breakfast good. Nice bar and restaurant. Perfect, central location.
Review 11:The staff were very friendly. The room was very spacious and clean and decorated to a high standard. It was the perfect location for us as we were attending a wedding at Lartington Hall. No baked beans available on the breakfast menu but when I asked the staff they were very happy to add baked beans to the breakfast.
Review 12:The weather!
Review 13:Helpful and very friendly staff, beautifully clean room, excellent facilities and lovely food. I used the disabled room and have no complaints at all.
Review 14:Nothing.
Review 15:Great to use as a base to go to a show at the Witham. The place has been fitted to a high standard and everything just so tasteful. The food appeared to be great quality local produce and good value. Staff had us at ease and very warm and friendly with attentive service.
Review 16:Wish we'd booked room next to disabled room as lots of tooing and froing Know for next time
Review 17:Excellent location Good food Staff couldn't be more helpful Travelled with elderly Mam who stayed in disabled room She felt comfortable in room and ease of getting showered was fab for her
Review 18:Just a little noisy but that is to be expected as it is a pub. Unsure with window open throught night as our room was over fire escape (Room 5). Would request room looking over street next time.
Review 19:Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 20:Good was average for the price. Little attention at the table beyond giving you the meal you'd ordered. Awkward parking arrangements caused by poor parking of other residents
Review 21:Large comfortable bed
Review 22:The room was lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly. Loved the decor. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Breakfast good although I would suggest having more butter and toast available (just to save the poor waitress's feet, bless her!) Loved that it is a family business - you can tell how hard they have worked.
Review 23:Can't think of anything only stayed one night.
Review 24:Accompanying up to date and comfortable, parking available at rear. Good food in restaurant and good bar.
Review 25:Nothing to regard as dislikeable.
Review 26:A very nice, well appointed hotel. Care has been taken to use good quality fixtures and fittings, which makes for a lovely atmosphere. Our room was number 7, on the top floor, well suited to our needs.
Review 27:Not a bad experience, my husband would have preferred one of the bigger rooms but he appreciated we got a good rate. He also was disappointed not to be able to have a pre theatre snack in the Restaurant. We had to go to another venue for food.
Review 28:The location was great for us. The staff were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good.
Review 29:Just a few small things - large noisy party in the dining room in the evening. Made us cut meal shorter than otherwise. Then group of noisy smokers at rear door -right outside our bedroom window at 11pm.
Review 30:Lovely hotel in excellent position. Staff were friendly and helpful and facilities excellent.
Review 31:None experienced
Review 32:Lovely area, good alternatives to eat at night, good walking area, good value and well presented evening meals, staff excellent prepared to go the extra mile willingly, difficult to identify family and staff.....that good
Review 33:Breakfast service was a little too slow. It would have been nice to have been offered a veggie cooked breakfast.
Review 34:A lovely little pub right in the heart of Barnard Castle with a warm welcome. Beautifully refurbished and presented. Nice buzzy atmosphere on a Friday night.
Review 35:Very hot rooms but unable to open window as overlooked fire escape and smoking area from the pub so noisy and smoke drifting into room. Quiet after midnight
Review 36:Friendly staff Good prices of food in the pub Good breakfast time Great shower Comfortable bed
Review 37:Restaurant and bar have been made over in faux French cafe rouge style without any local English country inn character.food is decent and decently priced but unambitious- not a gastro pub.
Review 38:Nicely appointed bedrooms and bathroom.helpful staff. Excellent breakfast included in rate.overall very good value
Review 39:A lovely old inn which has been thoroughly refurbished throughout. The staff and the food were excellent. The hotel is well situated in the centre of Barnard Castle.
Review 40:The hotel couldn't have been nicer. It had all been upgraded several years ago and they did a great job. The rooms were spacious and nicely appointed, the bed was comfortable, and the nights were very quiet. Having a great restaurant on the premises was something we didn't expect but thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, a great gem in Barnard Castle. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Review 41:Location in centre of lovely town but quiet room. Breakfast was great. Would have used bar at night but noticed that a concert was on across the road so able to walk to that.
Review 42:The rooms are very warm but there is a fan supplied.
Review 43:The hotel is totally refurbished and very comfortable and the staff were charming. Also free parking on site.
Review 44:Coming in through the back door from parking space with heavy luggage
Review 45:You walk out the front door into History Great walks ,shops and culture and the staff were warm and welcimg
Review 46:Would have preferred to have quiet at breakfast rather than annoying music.
Review 47:We stayed in one of the cottages in a ground floor room with walk in shower. Excellent for someone with mobility difficulties.
Review 48:Breakfast was abysmal. Scrambled eggs cold &unseasoned. I had to send the toast back ,it was just warmed up bread
Review 49:The instructions on how to get there were spot on
Review 50:Would of liked to have a bit more of a lie in, in the very comfortable bed but was woken up early due to a delivery of beer barrels at 7.45am. May have just been unlucky on the day we stayed.
Review 51:Very clean, recently refurbished to a very high standard. Central location. Free car parking. Excellent evening meal and breakfast.
Review 52:The staff were fantastic--really helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, and when I suffered a really bad coughing/choking fit, 2 of the staff provided lots of reassurance and practical help! Hotel and facilities first-class, and food excellent. A really lovely 2 night stay with son and daughter in law, and we will definitely be back!! Thanks to all of you ! Janet Robinson
Review 53:Location of the car park and distance to carry luggage to hotel. At weekend the bar and adjacent restaurant are very noisy due to live music
Review 54:Staff were pleasant and breakfast was very good
Review 55:The location is excellent and the staff without exception were friendly and attentive. The hotel has obviously recently been refurbished to a very high standard and the bathroom was superb. Food in the restaurant was very good with excellent service.
Review 56:had dinner at a restaurant in hotel food was good. but an young woman with glasses had bad manor as a waitrees. I don't fullly recommand the restaurant
Review 57:breakfast bath tub location kind and careful receptionist
Review 58:There was a bit of noise from passing traffic in the main front bedroom but nothing that a glass of wine won't put right.
Review 59:This is a small pub/hotel on the main street in Barnard Castle which has been renovated by the owners to a very high standard. We chose this based on the reviews as it is close to the Bowes Museum where we had tickets to see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition(superb). We were not disappointed in either the comfort, food or value for money.
Review 60:Absolutely nothing, if anything to pick at then the bbq burger was a little dry. Not even worth quibbling over really.
Review 61:The attention to detail with the rooms and the consideration to guests and to customers to make sure as many people were happy as possible.
Review 62:Decor - pseudo, slightly tacky, 'Parisian'. Nothing related to the local area/sense of place, history etc in room or restaurant. No instructions re TV channels, DVD player (couldn't find it!) - annoying since TV reception very poor.
Review 63:Modern, spotlessly clean. And very friendly staff.
Review 64:The breakfast was pretty terrible to be honest !! Rubber bacon and sausage and a dry egg didn't try any of the other food on offer so can't comment on that
Review 65:Style of room was lovely and very clean
Review 66:Bathroom was terrible. We were placed in the number 9 and the bathroom was a disabled bathroom but after showering the water was everywhere all around the toilet and sink. There was a broke squiggy in there but when you pay £85 for a room I wasn't expexting to dry the floor with it. When I went to see the staff they offered me a mop and bucket (which I found amusing) then they eventually give me extra towels to lay out across the floor. Nothing was said in the morning by the staff so they must of just forgot! Apart from the bathroom the room was very nice just a pity about the paddling pool in the bathroom.
Review 67:Clean room and the wifi was very useful when we were there.
Review 68:Nothing really.....very warm and opened window....because room was to the front it was a wee bit noisy.
Review 69:Our room was lovely and spotlessly clean with immaculate ensuite. There was a nice relaxed feel to the place ...and everyone was so helpful .
Review 70:We asked for an early check in as we were at a wedding we arrived at 12.30 and the room was ready. staff were really friendly, whole place was immaculate and very clean, breakfast was ideal after a long day on the drink. Thank you
Review 71:Restaurant seating area, a bit close to other guests, (could hear their conversation as if we were sat with them) but we were happily moved to another table.
Review 72:Staff were so friendly, food lovely and room was excellent. Couldn't believe the value for money - a lovely big glass of Prosecco for only £3.50!
Review 73:This traditional town centre inn/hotel is a modern, clean and friendly place to stay. It has been thoroughly updated with quality materials and good taste, and it is obviously maintained to a very high standard. We had a lovely room overlooking the main street, and our meals (evening meal and breakfast) were delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 74:Breakfast was very disorganised , only one member of staff, previous tables not cleared, slow service. Breakfast not very nice, had salmon and scrambled eggs.
Review 75:Lovely modern decor, comfortable bed, Spacious bathroom Overall good facilities
Review 76:Only small issue was it said our room had a view and it looked out onto a fire escape gantry.
Review 77:Loved everything about the hotel. Very modern and very good bar.
Review 78:OMG everything. We had the deluxe king room and it was amazing. The bed was so comfortable, the room was divine and the bathroom was brilliant. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, decent sized meal and the quality of the food was brilliant. We will be back
Review 79:Difficult to pick faults but it can be VERY busy at the weekends making the courtyard noisy but it did quieten later on. Poor choices for veggie breakfasts did slightly disappoint.
Review 80:This nicely converted Inn positioned in a fantastic small market tow. The attentive staff and great disabled facilities made this the perfect place from which to enjoy the County Durham countryside.
Review 81:Nothing
Review 82:Excellent location in the centre of Barnard Castle with good access along Teesdale. Beautifully refurbished room with everything carefully thought out in terms usability. Excellent WiFi (once logged on you stay logged on).
Review 83:Very well appointed room. A good bar serving fine ales. A restaurant serving fine food! A central location near the castle and a short walk to the Bowes Museum
Review 84:Recently redecorated and modernised, so very welcoming. Bedroom confortable with excellent shower. Staff all friendly. restaurant food and service excellent.
Review 85:The food was very disappointing, one meal had to be returned, while the breakfast was quite tasteless. If you decide to eat here I would recommend strongly that you book in advance.
Review 86:Great staff made us feel welcome. Location for the town centre shops and sight seeing the country side was great. Good car parking. The modern decor throughout the hotel especially the fantastic bathroom made it a comfortable stay. The bar was very lively which added to the good atmosphere.
Review 87:Not what you would call bad but the young waitress at breakfast was a little dizzy.
Review 88:The pub and restaurant was buzzing - really good and the food very good also
Review 89:We had a room which was outside we hope in summer they stick to a reasonable closing time or perhaps would seem noisy with general public in the pub itself
Review 90:The room facilities the bed was so comfy
Review 91:We stayed on a Sunday and there was no food available after 4.00 p.m. This is not acceptable when there are very few alternatives outside the hotel on a Sunday.
Review 92:Modern Style of the decor, friendliness of staff.
Review 93:Access for a mildly disabled person (myself) was not good, though I could not see how it could be improved on that site
Review 94:A pleasant room and pleasant staff.
Review 95:Nothing to dislike!
Review 96:The room was a decent size, exceptionally clean, nice and warm and the bed extremely comfortable. Heartily recommended - I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Review 97:Just one observation - a reading light over the bed would be good.
Review 98:Cannot think of anything that would prevent us staying again - welcoming staff with great food. Dinner was very good.
Review 99:Mattress was a bit firm for our liking ,maybe a topper would help...not ur fault but a few rowdy guests coming in late 3am,making a racket, boy racers also .
Review 100:Food an service was first class
Review 101:Everything! The meal was excellent and although the tomato soup was 'off't the menu it replacement (cauliflower and rosemary) was probably one of the best we'd ever had.
Review 102:We only stayed for one night, but we excellent service, room lovely and clean.breakfast great with plenty to choose from.would definitely recommend and we will stay again .
Review 103:Myself and my husband decided to eat in the restaurant on Saturday evening the starters were good but when our main course was served the waiter (manager) dropped the bowl of chips on to the table so there was glass and beer all over including myself . Although he apologised there was nothing done about it . I went to the room to change and returned to the restaurant 20 minutes later and was served the same meal that was brought earlier and was told it had been under the grill yes I complained and was told they would take the food off the bill . This was an accident but the way it was dealt with by the staff in the restaurant that evening was totally unacceptable we won't be returning but I also would not recommend thie three horse shoes to anyone looking for a nice evening out
Review 104:Room very comfortable and clean
Review 105:Newly refurbished hotel with a friendly welcome. All of the staff were friendly and professional. Rooms very modern, clean and beds so comfortable.
Review 106:Dissapointed that there was no vegitarian cooked breakfast on offer.
Review 107:Tasteful decor. Comfortable. Well situated for all local ameneties, bars, shops, cafes and restaurants.
Review 108:The reception, as with other similar establishments, is unattended. The bell received no response. No difficulty going into the bar for attention but other visitors might not like this.
Review 109:Excellent accommodation, very clean, well designed. Probably the best En-suite I have seen. Rooms very nice and comfortable. WiFi very good although having to use codes for each device was a hassle. Breakfast was very very good, well served and presented. Didn't have the opportunity to have an evening meal as food stops early on a Sunday. This was notified in advance. There are plenty of good restaurants close by. Staff were all very friendly.
Review 110:Although only yards in distance crossing the open courtyard and getting to/ from the car park meant we had to wrap up well against the winter elements. Would have preferred a walk in shower to one over the bath.
Review 111:Good sized, quiet and warm room with a large comfortable bed and reasonably sized bathroom.
Review 112:Unfortunately on one night of our visit the central heating did not come on. I reported it to a member of staff but the problem was not resolved. There was already an electric heater in the room which we managed with and extra heater was offered
Review 113:Handy for shops. Good centre for sight seeing. Hotel excellent with good food Recently modernised to a high standard
Review 114:The annexe in which the room was situated is attached to what really is a very traditional town "hotel". Hence smoke from the smokers area in the courtyard permeates into the room so a non smoker will want to keep their window closed or suffer a very unpleasant smell of smoke from cigarettes. A great shame as the room would be hard to beat in Barnard Castle otherwise!
Review 115:The room was excellent. The food is fine although service could improve substantially.
Review 116:We booked into The Three Horseshoes for three nights last week and were delighted we had done so.The accommodation was very comfortable, the food was excellent and the service was friendly and helpful. Steve and Linda Green have done a fantastic job restoring and refurbishing this old property and deserve to have a great future there. Our thanks to all concerned for a very enjoyable stay.
Review 117:Room too hot! Also window was overlooked so curtains had to be drawn whilst changing.
Review 118:Friendly staff, good dinner and breakfast. Room well furnished and comfortable.
Review 119:Lovely comfortable room and bed, beautifully presented and also a great bathroom. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff very attentive.
Review 120:Not really a dislike at all: the hotel does not serve dinner on Sunday evenings, but recommends three nearby restaurants. We tried one and were delighted with the food and service.
Review 121:This hotel has been very recently renovated with care and a flair for design throughout. The hotel section: the reception desk and the rooms are kept separate from the pub part of the building. Our spacious room was beautifully furnished with a very large bed! The bathroom was very tasteful and the shower was huge! The staff were very efficient, cheerful and friendly, and the food, breakfast and dinner was well cooked and the menu varied. Overall a superb hotel we would definitely use again.
Review 122:Nothing, all good!
Review 123:Lovely new rooms, the old façade of the building on the historic street belies the luxury within! The food was excellent - the steak were superb.
Review 124:there wasn't anything I didn't like
Review 125:Central location very convenient to places of interest. The feeling of relaxation about the place, the size of the room.
Review 126:Everything about the hotel was 1st class - the position, the staff, the cleanliness, the food, the room, parking (including full directions) - well worth a visit.
Review 127:i booked 4 rooms for an overnight stay as we attended a wedding. i can honestly say everything - from the friendly welcome on arrival to the tasteful decor and (most important to me) the cleanliness of bathroom facilities - was perfect. the breakfast was excellent with quality produce and very well cooked. thank you so much - we will definitely recommend to everyone!
Review 128:Light from the main building shining through the curtains at night - blackout curtain would help this and improve the quality of sleep.
Review 129:This family owned hotel has clearly undergone considerable refurbishment/investment resulting in a quality establishment - would certainly recommend to others.
Review 130:Nothing to dislike.
Review 131:We broke our journey north here and were delighted with our welcome, well appointed room and lovely evening meal. The breakfast was top notch, fresh local ingredients cooked to order. It was the best of our whole trip!
