Reviews for The Ferry House Inn
Review 1:Its a little out of the way and can be hard to find, but worth it when it is found
Review 2:Very Friendly staff, good beer, good food. Single room was small, but well equipped and very comfortable.
Review 3:Just a small detail but the opening for the shower door was really small and I struggled to get in and out. Also there was an electric noise from the bathroom that was continuous.
Review 4:The room and the view were delightful
Review 5:Superb location, terrific staff, excellent food, wonderful room. Consistently brilliant stay. What's not to like? We'll definitely be back... again!
Review 6:Great place, newly refitted comfortable rooms, Staff & food (evening meal & breakfast) first class. WiFi connection very good. Highly recommended
Review 7:This is no fault of the hotel, but it was a little frustrating to find as Wolsley Road( the higher house numbers) takes a sharp turn. I was trying to find it on a dark rainy night and the sat nav could not locate the hotel.
Review 8:Great room with an excellent en suite. Two good bars downstairs. Evening menu catered for most tastes and was reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful bar staff. Great view from the room.
Review 9:Although it was excellent value I felt the food was a bit limited and there isn't anywhere else in the area without driving.
Review 10:Staff were very good. Room was great; newly furbished and clean and modern with a great view.
Review 11:The owner recognised me from a previous trip. Both owners regularly greet and smile. Nothing too much trouble in this friendly atmosphere, very accommodating.
Review 12:Cigarette smoke in room due to pub customers smoking in the road outside. The breakfast was a bit greasy.
Review 13:The room was surprisingly good. The rooms had recently been refurbished. The owner was very welcoming. Lovely views of the river.
Review 14:Balcony room title was a bit misleading as not really a balcony. Just enough room to stand but views were lovely
Review 15:Great staff and clean room. Great atmosphere in the bar, friendly locals.
Review 16:The bacon was a bit over-done!
Review 17:The room was perfect for our needs, quite small but we were only there for 1 night and very comfortable and clean. The staff were pleasant and welcoming.
Review 18:Great location on the edge of estuary with fantastic views. Outside seating on the edge of the water. Rooms are modern and very nice. Food highly recommended. Owner and staff very welcoming.
Review 19:Nothing really wrong here, except maybe the chef could do with a course in healthy options! Food was tasty but a little on the heavy side.
Review 20:Great view out the window. Lovely fresh decor, and a reasonable price for Plymouth, which is inexplicably expensive usually. Hearty food.
Review 21:I'm a very light sleeper & I could hear the traffic on the Tamar road bridge at night.
Review 22:Chef was very adaptable and cooked breakfast at 7 A.M ( 1/2hr before normal ) and it was very good.
Review 23:Lovely modern room with balcony and seaview. Very relaxing place to stay and there is a regular bus service from outside of the hotel into Plymouth. Thank you Frank & Lavinia from Wigan, Lancashire.
Review 24:!n a supposed deluxe room the bathroom door did not close. The room did not get made up on one morning as other guests also experienced. No apology or explanation given.Did'nt seem to be anyone in authority to speak to in the mornings other than one lone waitress. Thought quality of breakfast was poor, too greasy spoon for us, and the service was also poor.
Review 25:Great view.
Review 26:Hairs in the shower tray, smell of burnt chip fat wafting through the restaurant made my wife's eyes water, she watched the chef triple dip tasting the food, yuk, lack of fruit/ yoghurt for breakfast, room wasn't serviced on sat so no tea/coffee for sun (so that's why we had to pay up front on arrival! )
Review 27:The view over the tamar and the room was comfortable
Review 28:Being picky, my wife would have liked a bath in the room.
Review 29:The location, the welcome we recieved. The cleanliness of the room and the decor. Breakfast was good and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 30:The bedroom was very clean but the bathroom needed a deep clean. Not enough care and attention had been taken re basic hygiene around the toilet, shower and sink and there was an unpleasant build up of dirt on the toilet and for example around the drain in the wash hand basin. The toilet had not been properly cleaned from the previous guest. It looked as if a dirty cloth had been used throughout. Pretty unpleasant and also unnecessary!
Review 31:A great location, the ever-changing view including Brunel's historic bridge is terrific. Friendly and helpful staff, good food and beer and informal atmosphere.
Review 32:If I'm being picky, designated parking. But parking was no problem.
Review 33:Great atmosphere and nice people. Room was excellent and food was traditional pub, good stuff.
Review 34:Only issue was not enough milk and sugar provided in the room for 2 coffees in the morning
Review 35:Very friendly staff, lovely views over harbour, nice quiet location, beautiful rooms, bed large and very comfortable
Review 36:Can't think of anything
Review 37:The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very good. Great view over the river Tamar and bridge.
Review 38:Shower a little erratic in terms of fixings, but good when not leaking
Review 39:The view! Underneath Brunels bridge but quiet, peaceful even. Boats on water! Easy drive into town. Like staying in your local pub.
Review 40:Nothing.
Review 41:Superb location, spotless room, excellent en-suite, and raised well above normal expectations by the warmth of the welcome and the attentiveness of the staff.
Review 42:Our was not long enough. We will be back.
Review 43:Great location with seating outside for the nice weather. Food was fantastic, lots of choice with generous portions. Wide choice of bears on tap. Rooms very nice, modern decor and nice and clean. Owners and staff were very friendly really made you feel welcome.
Review 44:Rooms stank from kitchen below room furniture inadequate limited suppermenu poor breakfast choice inadequate guest information poor accountingSTAFF DRESSED LIKE TRAMPS
Review 45:Waterside location generous food portions
Review 46:Nothing, loved it here.
Review 47:Everything was superb in the Ferry House Inn. Room 10, Views 10, Staff 10, Wi-Fi 10, Parking 10, Food 10+. These people know what they are doing and are doing everything right.
Review 48:The location was beautiful with views across the River Tamar and of the bridge. Boats and canoeists on the water when I arrived. The food was delicious, seemed homemade and lots of it. All enjoyed with a lovely pint.
Review 49:We enjoyed everything thank you.
Review 50:The whole 1 night experience and the friendly staff and scrumptiously clean bedroom and linen. Well done to the owners,
Review 51:i think the bedroom doors were poorly fitting as they were fire doors with big gaps under them and some draught excluder missing. The existing floors were sloping but no attempt to close the gap under the doors. I would send photos but how ?
Review 52:We paid on arrival which is unusual but did not know if any payment had been taken before our arrival. nothing is said on the booking form.
Review 53:We have stayed in a lot of short stay hotels, the rooms in the ferry house inn are great with beautiful views from the small balcony, down stairs still needs to be refurbished but is comfortable and the food is great. Thank you for a lovely weekend.
Review 54:Can imagine it might be a bit difficult to get to bedrooms when checking in late because you would have to pass through a busy restaurant area.
Review 55:Clean, almost brand new look to bedrooms. Comfortable and reasonably sized bedroom with a small balcony. Great view.
Review 56:If I had to say anything, hotel the only thing was that wifi signal fluctuated
Review 57:Friendliness of staff and relaxed atmosphere. Modern upgrade to residential area, providing comfortable and contemporary setting.
Review 58:Freshly cooked breakfasts and evening meals, no heated precooked food. Stunning views from bedrooms. Lovely outside seating overlooking the river and the Tamar Bridge.
Review 59:The meal was slow to arrived but the staff always indicated how long it would take by updating the time on the bar. The food was great and worth the wait.
Review 60:Rooms were very comfortable and newly finished, Food was great and location ideal for the view.
Review 61:There is absolutely nothing that I didn't like about this place!
Review 62:When you see monogrammed bedding in a small out-of-the-way pub/restaurant with B&B rooms, you just know that this is a place that prides itself on quality. Spotlessly clean, modern room with underfloor heating, superb bathroom, fluffy towels (not those threadbare crispy ones like most hotels), the lot! I chose a dinner which for two good sized courses and a bottle of wine came to about £26. For that you can expect 'average' food & drink but this was terrific. And with a view of Brunel's bridge over the Tamar from my 16th century Inn bedroom window, a silent riverside setting, exceptionally friendly staff and a hearty breakfast ...I absolutely cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Review 63:The pub area is a bit tired and could do with a refresh.
Review 64:The rooms were nicely decorated and tasteful with a great view of the river and Tamar bridge. The breakfast choice and quality was excellent and the beer kept well in the pub
Review 65:-
Review 66:Bedrooms were fantastic. Clean and well equipped. Restaurant area needs renovating (which I am told is next on their list) but food was excellent and well priced. Huge breakfast choice in the morning makes this great value for money!
Review 67:Great welcome, lovely staff, excellent food, good beer. A very clean up to date property with fair sized rooms clean and spacious en-suites . Lovely views of the river and Tamar Bridge. There was also a huge selection of paperbacks to borrow.
Review 68:if you order breakfast at 7.30, be aware that it will take about 25 minutes before you get it. Very bad braekfast service, the lady didn' even know I came in the breaksfast room, after 5 minutes she appears, she askes me what I want but she didn't gave me the menu. She comes back with coffee, disappears again for 5 minutes, in the meanwhile gave the cook the order, another guest comes in and two minutes after I get my eggs benedicte, this man gets his breakfast served. That really pissed me off. And on top of this, the eggs benedict were served with baked mushroom OMG, what a splendid way to ruin these eggs. Two minutes later I dissapead not to come back ever again...
Review 69:Would have liked less bulky pillows and duvet. The bed linen covering them was nice and a good quality.
Review 70:Great view from room. Staff friendly and extremely helpful. Food delicious.
Review 71:Can't think of anything!
Review 72:The room was of an excellent standard. Whilst in a pub, the atmosphere was lovely and we didn't need to go anywhere else! The food was great in the restaurant too.
Review 73:We've tasted better coffee! No marmalade to go with the toast! Sliding bathroom door seemed to have a mind of its own!
Review 74:The view from the balcony, The ambience of the pub (great photographs and model ships, nice log fire.) Bedroom warm and comfortable. Nice food at dinner.
Review 75:We were unable to experience the evening meals as the dining room was fully booked the 3 nights we stayed. Book ahead if you plan to eat there!
Review 76:The friendly and helpful staff. The comfortable room. Lovely views of the river.
Review 77:The door to our room had a large gap below it . I stuffed a towel along it for a bit of extra privacy. Also when we arrived we had to walk through a very busy restaurant with our bags , I think they could do with using the side door as the b & b reception there is room .
Review 78:Staff were very helpful , it has recently been done out to a very good standard, very comfy and clean , breakfast was lovely and evening food looked amazing too, shame we didn't have time to try it out . restaurant was packed every time we walked through. we will be staying here again .
Review 79:The double bed might be a bit small for a couple but was no problem for me on my own.
Review 80:The room was well equipped and very comfortable. Food and breakfast was good value too. Friendly staff.
Review 81:We liked the high standard of the room which had all the facilities you would expect. Good was also spot on. This place is a little gem by the harbour and we will be back.
Review 82:And downstairs the pub restaurant needed some redecoration. It's still an authentic traditional and welcoming place aimed at the locals.
Review 83:The bedrooms were modern and comfortable. It's like a brand new sparkly hotel upstairs.
Review 84:Dining area needs a bit of a refurb, think they are getting round to it as new bedrooms have been created upstairs, work in progress
Review 85:the location on the riverfront is lovely altho a bit difficult to find.Food good & staff very helpful
Review 86:Lights in room a little dim with the black shades.Would have liked curtains as well as blinds to shut out more light.
Review 87:Clean comfortable room with good selection of hot drinks and toiletries. Great breakfast choice hot and well presented good pub menu plenty of choice. Friendly welcoming staff and owners. Bus to Plymouth right outside door good for none drivers like myself. Fantastic views over river to Tamar Bridge.
Review 88:The pub itself is worn and tired, in desperate need of a refurbishment to bring it up to the standard of the accommodation.
Review 89:Great views across the river Tamar. The rooms are clean and spacious.
Review 90:no downside to my stay
Review 91:A very clean, comfortable room with new en-suite with good pressure shower. Bed was very comfortable and I had an excellent night's sleep, waking to a beautiful view over the river. Excellent freshly cooked hot breakfast. Friendly welcoming staff. I will definitely stay here again when in Plymouth.
Review 92:Check in was done in the bar of the pub and the pub was busy when we arrived. However a friendly welcome
Review 93:The ferry house has everything; river view, traditional pub , modern accomodation and great food and friendly, helpful staff
Review 94:The only small critism was that the location of the 240v plug in relation tk the mirror, my patner couldnt use the mirror whilst drying her hair. A very minor issue.
Review 95:We stayed for a single night for my sons passing out at Rayleigh, would have happily stayed a few more nights.
Review 96:Mattress was very firm Could have done with some directions to the rooms and back down again - got a bit lost!!
Review 97:View from my room Friendly staff Bathroom (recently refurbished)
Review 98:Great accommodation but the food let it down a bit- average pub grub, the breakfast didn't have a continental option (no fruit, pastries, yoghurt) and no fresh coffee!
Review 99:Amazing location- could look at the view for hours watching the world go by. Really clean, beautiful décor in the rooms with attention to detail. Couldn't fault the accommodation side of things.
Review 100:Nothing bad about this place
Review 101:Nice location, views of Tamar bridges. Harbourside eating area. New and nicely decorated accommodation, friendly staff. Great food too. A great place to spend a night or two.
Review 102:Nothing
Review 103:We stumbled across The Ferry House Inn on the internet, looking for a Saturday night stay and we certainly found a little gem. This is a genuine locals' pub with excellent accommodation above. The pub itself is yet to be refurbished, but the rooms have only recently been built and are to a high standard. Reasonable parking too and in a nice area. The landlord and staff were most welcoming, the regulars friendly. The menu is surprisingly wide, but the food is of good quality and reasonably priced. We ate outside, enjoying the fabulous river view to Cornwall. Although the Tamar Bridge is close by, the pub and surrounding area is surprisingly quiet. It’s also easy to climb the hill to the bridge and walk into Cornwall and back, which we did in the early evening. Sunday morning saw us off with a well cooked full English (included). This is certainly a place we look forward to going back to when we are next in Plymouth.
Review 104:Having to leave!!!
Review 105:We were fortunate enough to be one of the first guests to stay at theFerry House Inn which in recent months has undergone extensive buildingworks to provide excellent bed and breakfast facilities. Our room wason the top floor tastefully decorated with quality furniture, fixturesand fittings. The enormous bed was very comfortable with themonogrammed bed linen giving that feeling of extra luxury. The viewsfrom our balcony overlooking the river Tamar were nothing short ofstunning especially when we watched the sun going down behind both theBrunel and Tamar Bridges. Having stayed in a number of b & B'sover the years the breakfast was certainly one of the best we havetasted with good quality produce being used. Our hosts Claire and Neiland all their staff made us very welcome I would not hesitate inrecommending this little Jewel which rests lazily beside one of themost beautiful views of the River Tamar.
Review 106:Very friendly and welcoming hosts and staff. Stunning location overlooking the River Tamar and the refurbishment of the bedrooms has been very tastefully done. Breakfast was excellent and I'm sorry I arrived too late for an evening meal as the menu looked very appealing. Delightful all round!
Review 107:One single 'negative' was the lack of wifi in the rooms, which was at best intermittent and predominately not available at all
Review 108:Location, Quality, staff helpfulness - Just a really nice place to stay
Review 109:Not a problem for me but is some way out from Portsmouth centre. at rush hour this may take some time
Review 110:On the water front New rooms mine was spacious friendly staff
Review 111:All the lanes you have to go down to get anywhere.
Review 112:The location, nice and quiet. The staff were very polite and helpful, and the amount of food you get is incredible. I would recommend the ferry house inn.
Review 113:How to reach the Inn. You really need a TomTom.
Review 114:Remarkable location on the bank of the river Tamar. Nice view on the river and the prominent bridges. Very friendly staff. Newly decorated. Nice pub and restaurant with good local food.
Review 115:Don't want to tell everyone how good it is in case they're fully booked next time we want to visit........
Review 116:The staff and owners were relaxed friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious and huge (probably too huge for us). The room and bathroom was as good as any good hotel, but with excellent views of theTamar and the bridges - absolutely loved our stay. Sorry we weren't able to try the evening meals on this visit, but we'll be back again.
Review 117:Quiet location, views across the Tamar river, friendliness of staff, lovely rooms and cleaned to high standard...Big breakfast for a big appetite and the staff were happy to downsize breakfast to suit. Will definitely book and stay again.
Review 118:l had a single room presented will, but my only concern was the compactness of the entry into the room & shower unit.
Review 119:Accomodation block new and only 1 'day old' !! staff really made an effort to please, with excellent room facilities
Review 120:Great place. Staff very friendly, good food, good beer's and ciders ,great bedrooms, would definitely stay again

Review 129:The very comfortable bed with the very beguiling view of the river Tamar from my bed. Very friendly staff and very good food.
