Reviews for The Cliff Hotel and Spa

Review 1:The fact that it was like a building site outside and very dark outside I e not enough outside lights a lot of the internal doors were very dirty and paint scratched off ,the staff at breakfast wasn't very helpful the poached eggs tasted of vinegar over all not very good .

Review 2:The spa facilities were good and the room was comfortable.

Review 3:The small portions in the restaurant (starters and main course). Some areas in the place needed updating badly however the place was halfway through a refurbishment

Review 4:Brilliant spa staff, wait staff and reception staff. Fantastic customer service . Amazing food that was cooked to perfection.

Review 5:Spar was very busy and women's changing room could have done with the floor cleaning.

Review 6:The staff were lovely and the renovations to the hotel are fantastic

Review 7:Fantastic views, very modern decor and the Spa was very relaxing despite large numbers using the facilities at the same time.. The menu choices and meal itself were delicious. Can't wait to go stay again!

Review 8:Food, either over cooked or undercooked vegetables. Weak coffee at breakfast plus not hot. Management need to be more on the ball in this department, always like this.

Review 9:Much improved over the last few years building wise.

Review 10:First time to this area of Wales, was pleasantly surprised of the location. Even though it rained all weekend it did not dampen our spirits. Went out for stroll then returned for a soak in jacuzzi. Breakfast excellent with great views of coast. Would come back.

Review 11:Poor sound insulation. We were on the first floor, not directly above, but close enough to function room to get the noise. Parties Friday and Saturday until 1.00am. so not great nights' sleep. Not forewarned. You can also hear significant noise from the shower rooms and corridors.

Review 12:Lovely location, smart hotel, helpful staff. Very good breakfast. Rooms warm, bright and well equipped. Spa was a bonus. No sea view - but you could see a few sheep beyond the car park.

Review 13:Room not as clean as it could have been, bedside lamp Dusty, kettle had tea , or coffee stains down the outside.

Review 14:Great location friendly and helpful staff

Review 15:Parking a bit of a struggle with car park full but we managed.. An indication of popularity.

Review 16:Staff were polite and helpful. Situation is great for scenery.

Review 17:Frendly relaxed atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, good food and cocktails. left feeling relaxed and stress fee ? Will be staying again and would recommend!

Review 18:The food was very poor and let the hotel down. Changing rooms in the spa were tiny and the lockers were dangerous because of the amount of rust. Shower and hot tap in the bedroom were boiling and the shower could not be controlled. Aware the hotel was under refurbishment but no excuse for this as they were open for business and charging premium rates. Did inform the owner of our concerns.

Review 19:The views were superb and the refurbishment.

Review 20:Bedroom was a bit shabby threadbare chairs, very cheap toilet seat that hit you in the back when you sat on it, sellotape to hold on edging in the bathroom, spa facilities very small for the size of hotel,

Review 21:Downstairs has been developed, good decoration, spacious dining and seating area, breakfast very good with very helpful staff,

Review 22:The room was disappointing, I had booked an "executive" room however I do not feel that the room was of a very good standard. The decor was tired and dated and the requested sea view was somewhat spoiled by the outlook onto the car park and the digger parked outside of the window. The hotel was fully booked so the only other room that was offered did not meet the standards expected either. A couple that we met the evening of our stay had booked the previous week, paid the same amount and were given a newly refurbished room which seems unfair as we had book some time before so feel that the rooms should be offered, in terms of quality, on a first booked basis.

Review 23:The spa area was very relaxing and the overall refurbishments to the majority of the hotel had been done to a high standard.

Review 24:Minor issue but room was above spa and suffered from occasional machine noise in day. But in this part of the world should only be spending a limited time in room and understand being upgraded in New year which will resolve

Review 25:The welcoming staff, especially the breakfast staff, always chatty and seemed genuinely interested in guests well-being. Was exactly what you need to escape the stress and wind down. Remember time moves slowly in West Wales, which is is appeal. Planning on returning soon.

Review 26:Lighting in the room, could've done with a light above the mirror for getting ready. Few hairs around the floor of the bathroom and on the shower head.

Review 27:Beautiful location, friendly staff, delicious food

Review 28:We had an old room with sea view and sea breeze as the window had amassive gap with the wind blowing in .Had to call maintenance to comeand tape it up as the radiator had stopped working as well ..I shouldnot have had to pay the full rate for this room as I had booked it for a3 day break for my birthday for spa treats and that was closed for twodays and not told about it until we had arrived and went to book sometreatments !! They gave us a free bottle of wine as compensation for thesea breeze and a plug in radiator for the cold.

Review 29:Location food and the staff are the best and work hard .

Review 30:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and the bed soooo comfy. Food was good, particularly the breakfast. Fabulous views, even in the rain !

Review 31:Our bed was very hard.,!

Review 32:peaceful location, hotel recently updated and it's lovely, we watched dolphins play in the sea whilst eating breakfast, the staff were also very efficient and pleasant, we will definitely stay again!

Review 33:Bit slow bringing food from kitchen when eggs etc ran out, also bringing coffee. Why is the bed so low(must be the lowest ever) in room 137 as you cannot lie in bed and look out of the window to see the fantastic view, just a bit higher please?

Review 34:Friendly efficient staff, great location, wonderfull food? Great spa facilities?

Review 35:Unfortunately we were in the wing that will shortly be renovated( we were not told at booking) the staff were very understanding when I complained and reduced the charge

Review 36:We had stayed before and were impressed by the relaxed layout of the hotel -the attentiveness of the staff and value for money-the restaraunt is excellent and this time I had a spa treatment which was very professional

Review 37:the food was so bad that while waiting with a drink a table of six returned their food, pretty much everyone in the restaurant either had a problem with the food or the bill. My food was white meet that was running with blood. It was so raw and undercooked I left refusing to eat there, sat for over half an hour with no drinks and had to even send the bread back as it was so hard, it must have been there all day, they microwaved it and returned it to the table, it's so bad I would never return. If they offered a free return trip I would not go. We have never stopped at a place like this before, It's just waiting for food poisoning !!!!

Review 38:The Location was great and the downstairs of the hotel very nice, our room was very old and dated.

Review 39:Room was waiting to be refurbished - but price was a bargain. Some issues obtaining correct bills in the restaurant.

Review 40:Location, spa facilities and restaurant manager.

Review 41:The room was small with a low window and the bed was low and not very comfortable. It was not a big problem though. Next time I book I will probably phone the reservation to request a bigger room.

Review 42:Everything was very good

Review 43:bath room could have been cleaner behind the door was thick dust carpet in a bathroom is never a good idea, rest of room was good.

Review 44:Restaurant food and staff great

Review 45:Bed was 2 singles zipped together and no room for any treatments at the spa. Been great in the past though.

Review 46:Nice room and lovely food down in the resteraunt

Review 47:Location - lovely setting. Nearby Golf available. Friendliness of staff. All round ambiance of the hotel and area. Visited here last some twenty years ago, whilst location still unchanged the hotel certainly have.

Review 48:The room was not prepared in advance > Heating was not working correctly we did not sleep well because we were too cold! > Television had not been used for a little while & did not find any stations. > Hangers missing from the wardrobe The hangers & television was corrected on the first night. The heating was only corrected on our 2nd night

Review 49:> Lovely location .> Bedroom was lovely > Very clean > Good food > Catered for Gluten Free diet > Friendly Staff

Review 50:At dinner I was served with a starter course that was not the one I ordered. After dinner I ordered a black coffee which came with milk already added and when I asked for a replacement the waitress disappeared and did not return before we left the dining room

Review 51:It was a quiet location and the room we were allocated had stunning views over the river and estuary

Review 52:Unfortunately we were on the 2nd floor with no lift & my husband had a bad chest!

Review 53:Really enjoyed the spa. The room was lovely. Evening meal was also lovely

Review 54:Room very warm overnight. (where the heat was from is a mystery as the radiators were cold) Poor shower, the only way to get warm water was to have very low flow, increase the flow a little and your scalded.

Review 55:Location, parking and efficient reception.

Review 56:The room, but we did have one of the older rooms so when you consider the price it wasn't to bad. Would definitely pay the extra and stay in a new room next time.

Review 57:The spar and breakfast :)

Review 58:Nothing that I can think of.

Review 59:The location was perfect. The staff were excellent. There was a lot going on at the hotel while we were there, but it didn't interfere with service in any way. I was most pleased that my need for gluten free was catered to even at the dinner meal.

Review 60:Had a little difficulty in finding the hotel so a better directional information would have been appreciated.

Review 61:We were upgraded to a superior room which was lovely. An evening meal taken at the hotel was good.

Review 62:Just a little more work is required on the updating of certain area's. One or two members of staff perhaps could do with a bit more training.

Review 63:Everything about the cliff hotel is excellent. It was a most enjoyable and relaxing break.

Review 64:Unfortunately this time the bedroom was horrendous. Asked for sea view, last time we stayed we had a fabulous refurburished bedroom with a stunning sea view. This room was small with views of walls and pipes. Paid for upgrade.

Review 65:As always the hotel is a great, spa good. Refurbished areas lovely. Staff really helpful.

Review 66:Was disappointed that we were unable to play 9 hole golf course due to hotels lack of hiring equipment.

Review 67:Superb location. Good value. Staff friendly, professional and efficient.

Review 68:Nothing!

Review 69:It was just perfect lovely room and location. The view out to sea from restaurant was stunning and food delicious. Spa was lovely. Already booked to go back .

Review 70:We were staying in the extension side of hotel. Room in need of updating. Very poor ventilation in large window so sun makes the room very warm in the afternoon.Bathroom on the small size. Can hear noise from upstairs and each side.

Review 71:Beautiful views from our room overlooking Cardigan Bay. About 20 minutes Outside of Cardigan town. Good choice of self service breakfast and good food. Spa treatments available.

Review 72:Initial room not what was expected, staff excellent handling of the situation. New room quickly found

Review 73:Overall attention, friendliness, professional staff.

Review 74:Arrived late in the evening and drive way was very dark.

Review 75:Everything, fantastic hotel with great facilities for a relaxing break. Breakfast was the best I've had in years

Review 76:Work being carried out in room above has no place all day. Then in evening our room felt like a corridor for everyone going past all night to early hours. No sleep again!!!!

Review 77:Views

Review 78:They are in the process of updating the hotel and the rooms that have yet to be done are a little tired but still perfectly ok.

Review 79:The location of this hotel is excellent. The views from our room was fabulous.

Review 80:The hotel was being done up but had no affect on our stay ! Will be amazing when completed .

Review 81:The staff was amazing went above their job role to make our stay outstanding , the spar was out of this world , can't wait to go back again .

Review 82:The hotel is excellent. The location is amazing, fantastic scenery overlooking a bay with cliffs opposite and occasional dolphins and seals. Having been renovated the rooms and communal locations are attractive and comfortable, and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The spa is good with reasonably priced treatments and the atmosphere inside is relaxing with soft lighting. The dining area is comfortable and well laid out with an outside terrace that overlooks the grounds and the bay and the food is very nice.

Review 83:It was disappointing to be unable to enjoy the view from room 12 as the windows were so dirty. The wallpaper was coming away from the walls and the whole room in need of renovation. The bathroom light pull switch was poorly positioned and caught on the door. We were disappointed to have paid £95 pounds a night for such a poor standard of room.

Review 84:We enjoyed the breakfasts.

Review 85:Nothing

Review 86:I have used the Cliffe many times before but with excellent alteration being carried,or completed it has enhanced the value for money without doubt. The staf are very welcoming and always very helpful. All the changes are excellent. Spa is very good.

Review 87:The only thing that let it down was the state of the kettle, it looked like someone had brewed tea in it.

Review 88:First time in a long time I slept the whole night through in a hotel, well comfy

Review 89:We had an awkward moment which rather spoiled it for us, we paid for our evening meal with cash and were due almost £7 in change. None was brought to our table and we waited 15 mins and then asked by which time it was obvious as we were seated beside the till, that the money had been put in the "tips box", with some shuffling and sorting out we did eventually receive our change. We like to choose how much tip to leave and we didn't get the best service, although we had booked a table we were kept waiting, no one seemed to be aware of whether we had ordered or not, there was no salt and pepper on the table and it wasn't clean. Shame because the food was really good but the restaurant staff need to be more professional, have their own stations, not ignore customers clearly looking for service and be aware of what is going on around them. Our bedroom had a great view but lacked in style and quality.

Review 90:The staff at reception and the view from our room was great. The quality of the food was excellent for both the evening and lunchtime meals. Eirlys made us feel very welcome at breakfast. We had a Thalgo mud wrap which was lovely and the Spa although a bit tired looking was relaxing and clean.

Review 91:Could'nt find anything not to like.

Review 92:Our room, 215, having been recently decorated, a lovely view looking out over the estuary, comfortable chair and sofa. Brilliant, however if mobility affects you this room is not for you as no lift.

Review 93:Some of the staff could be more welcoming. The cleaning staff were lovely, really friendly and made time for my little grandson. The reception and bar staff were nit particularly welcoming but the staff at breakfast were FANTASTIC

Review 94:The location and views are spectacular

Review 95:The overall Dinner experience was not good value for money. Quite expensive and choice shown on both menus not to our liking and limited.

Review 96:The accommodation, staff, and facilities at the hotel, were excellent. View from hotel breathtaking.

Review 97:Le spa fait un bruit d'enfer de 7h à 22h. Impossible de dormir ou seulement de se reposer. Spa makes a hell of a noise from 7am till 10pm. Impossible to rest.

Review 98:Bedroom was large with all facilities working and included, but lacked character/ boring decor. Also mattress needed replacing. Coffee in restaurant and bar was disappointing. Weak and tasted reheated. Spa needed to be booked ahead....no slots available during my stay.

Review 99:The sea front location is fantastic. Recent redecoration/ revamping suits the location. Restaurant experience is enjoyable with fabulous sea views.

Review 100:The spa was good, only let down by groups of noisy women chatting loudly. This was not relaxing and should be addressed as it does not follow your spa etiquette.

Review 101:The spa, the breakfast and the view

Review 102:Room was a little too warm for our liking but the window opened so it worked out OK. No air conditioning.

Review 103:Great location. Great view we had a cliff view from the bedroom window. Amazing sunsets. Great food. Reception helped with organizing laundry. Easy parking. Found out how to pronounce Gwbert.

Review 104:The spa facilities are absolutely excellent, the price was fantastic value considering spa access was included. Lovely location on coast, staff very helpful, accomodating and efficient. I was upgraded to a large room which was very spacious and clean. Would highly recommend :)

Review 105:staff not very friendly except reception staff when i booked in, not one member of staff said hello or good morning, the Spa area was opened 10 minutes late, no apologies, then had to wait another 20 minutes for the Sauna to warm up but was good eventually.

Review 106:Location could not be better very good room and food good

Review 107:The noise in our room disturbed our sleep, I think it was the air con. The huge cover on the bed was heavy and cumbersome. Our window looked out on some scruffy areas with rubbish strewn about.

Review 108:Nice location, very clean ,nice breakfast. comfy bed.

Review 109:If iam honest, was disappointed with comfort of the bed. The bed was two mattresses put together my side wasn't very comfortable!

Review 110:Really enjoyed our stay. Lovely food really enjoyed the spa. Staff really helpful.

Review 111:We booked two nights to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Which coincided with the first concert, in modern times, at Castell Aberteifi. 9bach are not to be missed ! nor were Bellowhead. From the smiles and welcome at booking in to the handshakes and warm wishes when we left, there was a sincerity which is missing in other big hotels. The views are some of the best anywhere worldwide, breathtaking ! The food was very good from breakfast to Sunday lunch, with reasonably priced bar snacks too! You may guess that the perfumed one and i hope to return soon. Thank you and well done to all at the Cliff...

Review 112:Room could have been cleaner Spa changing room not clean, look under the bench seat and mop the floor on a regular basis.

Review 113:Spa and reception area Good food Great views Nice staff

Review 114:There was a very noisy airflow pipe outside our bedroom window, felt there should have been a reduced charge because of this.

Review 115:The location was fantastic and also the food and spa facilities.

Review 116:Although the drive from Cardigan to the hotel was pleasant enough with delightful views, the final approach to the hotel was rather ugly as it was past the back of the hotel with bins and rubbish on display. At reception the staff were efficient but not very cheerful. Maybe they were tired but it makes a difference to first impressions.

Review 117:The hotel public areas looked newly refurbished in a fairly modern way and our room was similarly so. Location is wonderful, right next to the coastal path with great views of the estuary, cliffs and Cardigan Island. The buffet breakfast was comprehensive and fresh, and the restaurant staff friendly and helpful.

Review 118:Everything. Eirlys who was serving the breakfast was so welcoming and helpful, she was exception but all the other staff were good too. Lovely views and setting, and the food was good. Would love to go back again.

Review 119:the bedroom, we were given (223) which was over the kitchen, so you had kitchen fans and also the lift was in the room so you could hear it when been used

Review 120:the amazing views, the new part of hotel

Review 121:Late check in

Review 122:Location is ideal for us to visit family and friends lovely spa and great views but next time we check in could be a bit earlier as we were left till 4pm think they forgot to tell us and I did request an early check in.overall great stay thank you.

Review 123:We had room 21 and room 213 I(I think) which are located at the rear of the hotel above the hotel spa. Unfortunately you have a compressor running every 20 minutes, which wakes you up. Not Happy!!!

Review 124:Excellent location, with great food.

Review 125:Messed up our evening meal order..seemed overstretched. .had too many functions on..one a school leavers. ..noise till 2am...breakfast cold.

Review 126:Lovely surroundings. Staff very attentive

Review 127:Still has some rooms that need to be refurbished, promised within the next year

Review 128:Great location, friendly staff, the hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard.

Review 129:Room next to lift continual Disturbance in evening unable to get to sleep until early hours. View from bedroom window looked like a junk yard. Bedroom needs some TLC room 132 old tatty shower

Review 130:Excellent food, bit expensive Pleasant staff Superb location

Review 131:Not a bad experience but we all thought the evening meal rather expensive. The room wasn't cleaned on a daily basis but maybe that was because we were only b & b.

Review 132:The staff were all happy in their work which is a really good factor. The foyer was good - welcoming Excellent position on a fine day the views must have been spectacular

Review 133:In our opinion the room was unfinished as balcony door was locked as balcony was unfinished. Had to stand on chair to open only opening window. Shower room fan stayed on for long time after use. Priority should be given to guests when booking tables in dining room. Have stayed here recently and this stay was not as good.

Review 134:Excellent location, friendly staff, comfortable bedroom with lovely views. Excellent food.

Review 135:Not a bad experience, but an observation I hope may be helpful. We come from kent. There's a strong emphasis on eye contact with clients, so when this doesn't happen elsewhere is feels a bit negative.

Review 136:Love the location as we used to have family there. Hotel- great- very relaxing spa and excellent massage from Katie. Great dining room staff and welcome on arrival.

Review 137:My first room was near a source of noise disturbance; my second had a broken light bulb and a blind that did not work properly. Such issues should be reported by the housekeeper and remedied immediately. Also the hotel is not yet finished.

Review 138:Friendly helpful staff; good food.

Review 139:No issues apart from overheating within the dining area and bedrooms.

Review 140:Great views from property. Staff (especially Amy in reception who kindly changed a room due to mobility issues) were very helpful. We loved the lounge area and I enjoyed the spa area.
