Reviews for Gwesty'r Webley
Review 1:Double glazed windows in the bedroom were full of condensation inside the panes so spoilt the view across the River Teifi.
Review 2:Location, comfortable room and friendly staff. Freshly cooked food in the bar to a great standard and reasonably priced. Nice breakfast room and good range of breakfast items including fruit and pastries.
Review 3:Nothing to complain about, all you could wish for in a break away.
Review 4:My daughter and I enjoyed a magical few days here, enjoying the peacefulness and charm that Gwestyr Webley has to offer. The food and the hospitality was first rate. The room, although facing the estuary, with exquisite views and even with a road running by, still proved extremely quiet and relaxing.
Review 5:It was cold uncomfortable inaccessible. One of the worst places. We've ever seen. With any complaint we had, the manager just put the blame on us ... Not a friendly place that one would like to spend his vacation in
Review 6:Nothing. It was cold uncomfortable inaccessible. One of the worst places. With any complaint we had, the manager just put the blame on us ... Not a friendly place that one would like to spend his vacation in
Review 7:Decoration downstairs a bit tired, shower in room to high to step in to comfdortably, needs hand rail, stubbed toe on step into bathroom a couple of times.Meals didnt come together not much choice for me even though i notified them of dietary needs.
Review 8:Location.Staff were friendly.
Review 9:Rooms needs updating bathroom nice and big bedroom to small husband kept hitting leg on bed it is not worth the £100 a night
Review 10:Views meals in the night very good breakfast in not so good short of staff
Review 11:There was nothing here to dislike for me.
Review 12:Just about everything.Even though we had a cramped room the hotel was so great that it didnt matter. It was clean, warm, amazing seafood and we ate on the lovely old basketweave tables on the edge of the estuary and watched pretty boats and wildlife. I liked the lovely lady who served us at the bar and acted as receptionist too, nothing was too much trouble for her and the same for the owner who took the trouble to ask personally if everything was ok and explain about food and how it was cooked. I also loved the great smell of food cooking as we parked up and just the relaxed lovely peaceful place right by the sea.. It was brilliant made better by the good weather. I ate theeeee best salmon I have ever had here. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is not 5 star but it is very very friendly and worth a visit to eat at least. Excellent seafood.
Review 13:Few niggles with room, ie electric socket not working, kettle cable not long enough
Review 14:Great location . Some confusion at check in which was sorted quickly
Review 15:Although the accommodation overlooked a lake it didn't live up to its billing. It sat on a noisy busy road and was smelly - which I guess is to be expected!!
Review 16:Food served in the restaurant was of a high standard and the staff were very attentive and friendly.
Review 17:Can't say I had bad experience, but from the reviews I was expecting higher standard, it's a. D
Review 18:It has a nice view, friendly staff. It is near the town of Cardigana bit darrrk
Review 19:When lots of people visited the pub and ordered meals there was a very long wait for food. The quality also suffered.
Review 20:The area is outstanding and the views from the accommodation were outstanding.
Review 21:The staff were very helpful we arrived later than expected and the kitchen had closed but the staff offered to cook us an evening meal which was excellent hats off to the chef
Review 22:The setting was beautiful and the breakfast was excellent
Review 23:Had trouble with signal on room television but was not overly concerned as the restof the experience was fab
Review 24:Everything including staff, viewas and food All excellent
Review 25:Rain in West Wales is a bit grim but a smashing hotel! Never been to Cardigan before but definitely back to this hotel!
Review 26:The location, the staff and the food! The welcome from everyone is great and watching the tide come up the Teifi estuary.
Review 27:I appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff to a lone traveller who didn't know that part of Wales at all. Nice meals with some locally sourced food. I enjoyed the views over the water and the birds.
Review 28:A great hotel in a brilliant location, Views over the estuary are superb and the hotel has a very good restaurant menu. Well located for bus services to allow people to walk the coastal paths without having to drive. Our second visit and we will certainly be back again next year if not sooner.
Review 29:no issues.
Review 30:The location was beautiful, really peaceful. The food was excellent (lobster was perfect). Met new people from the area who were really friendly.
Review 31:The food: Excellent dinner (fresh fish) and breakfast. (+ loganberry jam!) Welcoming but not intrusive people The view over the estuary. The breakfast room ambiance.
Review 32:Rather inadequate breakfast considering price. Overall slightly lacking in imagination.
Review 33:Great view of estuary from room. Very comfortable bed for a good night's sleep.
Review 34:No service for mobile laptops or tablets but this wasn't the hotels fault it seemed to be a problem for the whole area.
Review 35:Great location friendly staff hotel a little dated but very clean.
Review 36:The decor in our bedroom. The outside appearance of the walls.
Review 37:The location evening meals and the bed. The friendly welcome. The relaxing chairs outside looking at the view with a glass if wine.
Review 38:Simon was a great host , very friendly. We enjoyed our break , the westher wasnt very good, but you cant do much about that. We had a good breakfast, thought the evening meal was a little expensive.
Review 39:Friendly, warm, attentive host who made us feel really welcome. The location is stunning, with a great view from the room we stayed in. Food was excellent, great breakfast.
Review 40:We stayed during the bank holiday weekend. Simon is a fantastic host. He gave us great input on trails to walk in the area. The food (dinner and breakfast was fantastic). They wen out of their way to make us dinner after the kitchen was supposed to be closed. Simon was extremely friendly, and accommodating to our questions and needs. The hotel location is excellent for access to some fantastic trails and views of Wales. Would definitely stay here again. Exceeded our expectations.
Review 41:Patchy wifi. Property still needs renovation.
Review 42:Excellent location for walking on the beach and the start of the coastal path. Quiet location in off season Friendly staff
Review 43:Our host, Simon, could not have been more accommodating! Peaceful, wonderful view, very welcoming. Excellent breakfast! Hope to be able to return one day!
Review 44:Our host Simon made us feel comfortable in any way he could have, generous and friendly in this no-fuss small hotel with views and quiet all around. Some of the restaurant dishes were excellent. All good value for money.
Review 45:No bad experience but our room was very cold and the bar facilties are dated and a little uncomfortable.
Review 46:Simon, our host, was very friendly, helpful and accomodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The estuary location is very beautiful and handy for the coastal path.
Review 47:The bar area is a little tired. We had a fabulous view from our window of the estuary but I had to clean the window to appreciate it.
Review 48:The location was one of the best I have ever stayed. The hosts were incredible. They worked liked Trojans. They were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent.
Review 49:Wonderful location. Superior room overlooking the River Teifi estuary; excellent and filling breakfasts; huge and well-appointed bathroom; comfortable bed. Good beer and food. Extremely welcoming host, attentive and unfussy service.
Review 50:Condensation in windows affected view a little bit
Review 51:The location; the proprietor Simon was very attentive, friendly and hard working; the bathroom (en suite) in room six was amazing- bigger than the bedroom- with bath and separate shower, robes and slippers ; lovely food.
Review 52:The bar was very 1980s in style and needs a serious upgrade to compliment the rooms I understand the owners are working on improving the hotel throughout and I wish them every success with this.
Review 53:The room and the bathroom was brilliant well presented very modern the upper floors very well decorated and comfortable. The food not fancy but well prepared flavoursome and plenty of it
Review 54:Simon was extremely welcoming, home cooked food excellent, clean spacious room ( room 6) with a perfect view of the estuary and Cardigan Bay... For this time of year the room was lovely and warm which is important to me, room spotlessly clean, Bed comfy... Worth visiting !!! We Love supporting independent buisnesses to continue to thrive :)
Review 55:A small family run hotel. that sadly needs a coat of paint on the outside.. but that does not take away from the excellent location, service and atmosphere you get from a family run hotel.. Everything else about it is wonderful
Review 56:One thing is for sure- you could not get closer to the coast line.. a couple of meters from the front door.. I was the only guest as it was very early in the season and the proprietor could not have been more friendly, helpful and willing. he promised come Easter it will be packed- but the solitude suited me. The Fish and Chips were the best I have had in many a year.. breakfast was stunning..
Review 57:My only complaint was I was cold, but I do live in a hot country
Review 58:We were treated really well. Simon was very warm and welcoming the room had an amazing view and was well fitted out with an amazing bathroom, the bar food was good and the breakfast was lovely. Simon was very accommodating and helpful very keen o meet all our needs.
Review 59:nothing
Review 60:location great hotel really nice and comfortable owners couldnt do enough for us food was really nice and value for money would recommend this hotel for quiet relaxing breakaway
Review 61:I can't fault it.
Review 62:The location is beautiful, the room was very comfortable and homely, the breakfast was delicious with local ingredients and the staff couldn't do enough for us. We loved it.
Review 63:Only thing was, that we had read(a review) it was a short walk to shops....this was not accurate for us( 45 minute walk to cardigan.)There is, however a nice little pub which does lovely meals just a 10 minute walk away...
Review 64:We loved our free upgrade on arrival and being allowed to check in earlier than stated. The room was a very high standard and the views spectacular! I'd highly recommend the evening meal as we ate there twice and loved the taste and presentation. The staff were friendly and helpful too.All in all a super 3days break xx
Review 65:a little small thing the windows weren't clean, I know it's small but if it helps them with first impressions then we hope it helps. It didn't spoil anything for us, we just noticed it.
Review 66:cleanliness, view and the staff at the hotel which made us all feel very welcoming. thank you, we were there on a sad occasion but they helped make it really pleasant for us. thank you
Review 67:Premises were badly in need of up-grading, cleanliness was poor. Ambience in pub was disappointing, we only ate there once for dinner. Overall, an unsatisfactory experience!
Review 68:position of hotel
Review 69:Anything not quite perfect would not be worth mentioning.
Review 70:liked everything about the place but location is perfect, beautiful and quiet. My husband and I travel a lot UK and overseas and I would like to put on record that this hotel during our stay put on the best breakfast of anywhere we stay in (Hotels or B&Bs), that the majority of the food seems to be locally sourced, very fresh and cannot be beaten on the variety of what is on offer be it cereals, cooked breakfasts, bread/croissants/fruit in season (raspberries largest ever seen anywhere including Scottish soft fruit growing areas and as if hand picked that morning), plus other fruits bananas/melons etc., preserves from local farm, yoghurts, nice touch the wrapped butter and tea bags were Welsh! To someone who has learned some of the language it is good to hear Welsh spoken there. We had meals on all evenings bar one at the hotel and some lunches and menus were imaginative and again obviously where possible every item locally sourced and that is a winning asset to any hotel. Almost immediately I knew we would want to return to this hotel. Work is being done on the exterior but this did not interfere with our stay and the bedroom (not one with sea views but we were not concerned as elsewhere the views are super) was large, cosy, very clean, bright and comfortable, and the bathroom modern and spacious. Extremely good value for 5 nights BB& EM. We already knew well the Pembrokeshire/Cardiganshire area but not this particular spot and feel when next travelling to West Wales the Webley is where we shall be staying. Thanks to Simon & Co. for everything, and p.s.wi-fi worked for us!
Review 71:This is an old building in a harsh seaside environment and which is not viable to restore. Consequently, things will continue to go downhill.
Review 72:The situation, the friendliness of the management
Review 73:The room we had was desperately in need of renovation, with a shower hose that reached half way up my body and a second shower that was not connected and loose electricity wires to name just a few. However our friends had no complaints about their room.
Review 74:The staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful. We had a meal there and the food was fantastic, and the location was second to none.
Review 75:Bedroom decor a bit tired. Bathroom and shower very small.
Review 76:The view - stunning. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The Restaurant food was excellent.
Review 77:A waterside delight, a must if your into paddle boards or canoes. The owner Steve a charming man. The restaurant a real surprise a match for any four star hotel. Will visit again when in Wales
Review 78:An beautiful situation and easy access to Poppit Sands . Excellent meals the quality and variety was superb . Mine host could not have been more welcoming and helpful .
Review 79:very good location, with super views, good choice at breakfast. Very quiet for peaceful nights sleep. Easy access to the beach and coastal path, very useful bus the Poppit rocket, which connected the beaches so you can walk and catch the bus back.
Review 80:Nothing
Review 81:The room was excellent. Bathroom as big as the bedroom. Really well appointed. Lovely view of the estuary in the evening, drinks al fresco, all very relaxing after an hard day.
Review 82:standard not as expected from internet pictures table was really low down where you made your tea & coffee also the kettle smelled windows were really dirty we had 3 windows in our room looking onto washing, bins & looked like flats, carpark
Review 83:Good location
Review 84:Many items from the menu were not available. Poor overall finish of rooms, definitely not superior as booked. This hotel could be stunning but is tired and in desperate need of a refurb
Review 85:fabulous views and friendly staff
Review 86:Some difficulty with mobile phone reception but can solve this by standing in the outdoor seating area to get reception.
Review 87:The staff, the location, the bedroom and en suite, the menu of all meals, the bar area, the outdoor seating area. All the staff were really approachable, friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome.
Review 88:The light on the next building shining through our window
Review 89:The location was fantastic, so quiet and beautiful, the area is breathtaking with so many pretty towns and villages. The hotel is warm and the staff are very hospitable, Food was world class
Review 90:Evening meals not available due to fire in the kitchen. WiFi not working during stay. Both things were important to us because of bad health just wanted to return after day out and relax, drink, eat but we had to go out and search for somewhere to eat. These along with the setting were the main criteria for my booking so I was a bit disappointed to not be offered a reduction. I was made to feel that it was more of a hinderence to the owner due to list revenue than it was for the inconvenience to ourselves. Hotel needs some basic redecorating to spruce it up and the bar area needs re vamping. I would definitely stay again though
Review 91:Location was excellent
Review 92:First impressions were to turn around and leave. The whole building looked shabby. After parking the car I could see that the hotel was actually in the process of being redecorated on the outside. First impressions over, I must say I would liked another night or two.
Review 93:The bedroom, large comfortable bed, spotless bed linin and towels. Bathroom amazing, walk in shower and a bath. The bedroom had two windows overlooking the estuary. Wonderful views. Outdoor seating arranged to take advantage of views. couldn't fault it. Evening meal was really nice and the breakfast included yogurts fruit as well as a large welsh breakfast
Review 94:The owner was friendly and welcoming, the local views were amazing, the food was local produce and very good, the bed was comfortable, the bedroom clean and comfortable.
Review 95:Disorganised albeit pleasant but stressed staff. Very quirky facilities(bedhead, electric fitting - very heath robinson!- Staff notsufficiently confident to take the initiative, overworked manager whodid not delegate, not 4 star and barely 3 star, had to ask for light inbathroom, and get manager to operate handrail from the corridor, bizarreand complicated tv facility - to the extent that we gave up in the end
Review 96:Position and location
Review 97:I hour delay each evening for meal, unable to order in advance. Menu a little limited. Building requires attention, some work in progress.
Review 98:Views and superior room. Food very good .
Review 99:Management and staff went out of their way to answer our needs., e.g.for early supper before theatre and late coffee and croissants to make up for the breakfast we missed. Superb setting on the Teifi estuary.with tables set out on the foreshore. Plenty of parking space.
Review 100:The wonderful view across the estuary from the beer garden, the food and location, with New Quay and Fishguard within easy reach. Lovely breakfast served quickly and efficiently.
Review 101:Walls seemed quite "thin" so transfer of noise could be a problem.
Review 102:Wonderful to have friendly and helpful staff, great to hear Welsh spoken so freely. Beautiful location across from the estuary.
Review 103:Just needs a bit of paint here and there. Think WIFI would be a good idea.
Review 104:The staff are really friendly and very helpful. The location is stunning. The breakfast was fab. Unfortunately we were at a party the night before so we didn't eat there but the food looked fabulous. Very comfortable bed.
Review 105:En-suite shower room was tired and dated - shower not very clean - black mould on grout, soap holder in shower had no dish in it an was falling off the wall, flexible hose to shower was too short, in fact the height of the shower unit itself was far to high for some one of under five foot six - it was a struggle to reach. The bed sheet had tears in it and the Quilt cover had holes in. Obviously the chamber maids aren't paying much attention to detail.
Review 106:Location was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nicely decorated and clean.
Review 107:the property is a little run-down and uninviting, especially from the outside but don't let that put you off. Simon and Ewan are excellent hosts and the hotel is right in all the places that matter (comfortable beds, cleanliness, food). With a facelift, this hotel would be hard to beat.
Review 108:the location is superb, staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room, though a little uninspiring decor-wise, was very comfortable, clean and we were well supplied with all the usual things - good quality towels, bedlinen etc. Breakfast was excellent. Well kept cellar with a good selection of wines and beers.
Review 109:a very small and personal point really but as a user of skimmed milk I didn't like the whole milk supplied in the bedrooms - semi-skimmed would probably be more universally acceptable.
Review 110:the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room we stayed in had wonderful views over the estuary and we loved watching the tide going in and out. A jug of Pimms in the late afternoon sitting outside in the sun was a real plus point. Our bed was super comfortable with plenty of pilllows and our room and bathroom were spotless. We ate in the hotel bar every evening because the food was great. Perfectly cooked fish and scallops to die for.
Review 111:nothing really!
Review 112:Webley is a simple hotel in a beautiful situation; peaceful with views of the estuary and the wildlife and walks along the coast. The owner of the hotel is anxious to please and give really good service. His staff likewise. The cuisine is excellent and can be compared to more expensive restaurants.
Review 113:most amazing food. Restaurant quality meals in a friendly pub location.Steve and Sandra our hosts were friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wished it had been for more than one night. Would definitely recommend it and return if we ever visit UK again
Review 114:breakfasts were a bit of a let down -both mornings we overcooked sausages and bacon, fairly dried out beans and not free range eggs. However a good selection of cereal, yoghurt and fruit
Review 115:Evening meals were exceptional. I had the tastiest , most beautifully presented salmon ever. Stunning location. Room was plain but very comfortable beds and all the facilities we needed. Initially we were disappointed as didn't have a view of the bay but to be honest - we only were in the room late and it was dark.. Plus, unlike most places, the mirrors were all large enough and high enough for tall people
Review 116:Friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. Nothing was too much trouble. Interesting and varied menu. Comfortable rooms. Beautiful location. Excellent value for money.
Review 117:We had the last room available, room Nine. It was a bit small with an even smaller TV. But the bed was comfy. The Bathroom was in need of an ungrade. The Shower was complicated, I heard another guest complaining to Simon about the workings of their shower unit, so it seems it wasn't just ours. The cubical had a soup dish holder but no soap dish ? and when you undressed you found there was no coat hook ? The Bar, while very friendly was also shabby & in need of a male over. So for £85 per night a bit disappointing. Come on Simon, time to spend a bit of money on your lovely pub !
Review 118:Wonderful location on the estuary. Simon and his staff were very welcoming and helpful. Evening meal was a delight, plenty of choice, particularly shell fish & fish.
Review 119:Unfortunately the only view from our bedroom window was a roof! Disappointing to say the least. Bed was very comfortable but difficult to get in and out of because of wooden bed frame. As we are not so young chairs in the room would have been better to relax on.
Review 120:Excellent food. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Cosy ambience and views from river bank were breathtaking! Very nice to have been able to converse with staff in Welsh.
Review 121:the room was in a poor state ceiling paper starting to come off just very dated
Review 122:the location was very good
Review 123:the pretty location.Helpful host.
Review 124:Views and staff
Review 125:Despite being the only guests, we we're made to feel very welcome. Excellent Welsh breakfast.
Review 126:Would have preferred room with sea view.
Review 127:Superb location, relaxed atmosphere, pleasant staff, good food
Review 128:Really really friendly and helpful proprietor
