Reviews for Best Western Frensham Pond Hotel

Review 1:For price of room at very quiet time of year breakfast should have been included. We mentioned we stayed forty years ago on our honeymoon. A bottle of wine would have been nice.

Review 2:Difficult for staff to interject but children were out of control running all around the hotel with little parental control up until midnight.I was accidentally overcharged for my breakfasts but later resolved in on the phone.

Review 3:Comfortable break. Staff polite and efficient. Easy to relax and good walks around the lake.

Review 4:we were visiting a friend who is not well and although this hotel was not near to where they live we picked it because of garden rooms with patio as we are both smokers. But when we got there the room we had booked was under renovation so were given an upgrade to superior room which was absolutely lovely. Had we known this we could have picked a hotel nearer to where our friends live. Although the duty manager was very apologetic and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine.

Review 5:setting of hotel was beautiful.

Review 6:We arranged for our room to be ready at 11.30, so we could get changed for the wedding we were attending at 14.00, but it wasn't ready until 13.20, so a bit of a mad rush, however we weren't charged the fee for requesting an earlier time to check in. There was building work going on, even on Sunday.

Review 7:The location, the staff, the food, the room.

Review 8:The hotel has undergone extensive refurbishment, however the carpets in corridors and entrances need a thorough shampoo (and even a vacuum!) they were very dirty. Bulbs were missing in three lamps in the room and not replaced when asked. The mirrored light in the bathroom also didn't work. The water from the shower was causing extensive damp patches and bulking of the wall paper on the adjacent wall in the bedroom - this will only get worse!

Review 9:The breakfast has plenty of choice and is well presented and cooked

Review 10:The hotel rooms are in separate blocks to the main hotel the block I was in had a strange smell when you entered but I must say this was only in the entrance the rooms were very nicely decorated & presented to a high standard

Review 11:Location was very pretty, staff were very friendly, breakfast had lots of choice

Review 12:The TV didn't work. The phone didn't work. The bedside lights didn't work. ALL reported at the front desk but still no action. I used to come late at night and leave early so didn't matter that much but it is not acceptable.

Review 13:Location, cleanliness and quality of room decor.

Review 14:Charged twice for breakfast (refund given eventually) - poor plumbing -basin tap falling off, shower controls badly placed so you get soaked incold water turning them on, breakfast dull (sliced bread, run of themill Fell Englisg, more interesting options charged additionally) evenif you're only charged once! Nice croissants though, so better tostick to the continental choice.

Review 15:Design, location

Review 16:We were there as part of a wedding party, the transportation to the wedding was booked to leave the hotel at 13.20 however we weren't able to check in until 14.00 so we had to check in at 23.30 when we came back from the wedding. It was a slight inconvenience only because we would have liked to have put a bag away in the room.

Review 17:We booked a standard room with patio but due to renovations we were upgraded to a suite. The customer service and employee knowledge was very good, we were treated very fairly and the rooms were lovely, the bed was gorgeous and the bathroom facilities were also fab.

Review 18:Building work was noisy and disturbed my stay and phones in room did not work to order room service. Breakfast not included and should be for the price of the room.

Review 19:Shower was amazing! The decor was lovely and comfortable and clean.

Review 20:£4.50 room service tray charge is a little steep; limited menu.

Review 21:Great improvement as a result of recent refurb. Nicely appointed rooms, quiet, wifi actually works now.

Review 22:No bath in the executive double room. Bar staff rude in the evening, wouldn't pick up a broken glass off of the floor, rude on service

Review 23:Good location with good views from the bar/restraunt area. big bed, amenities in the room were very good and very clean room.

Review 24:Unfortunately no one warned us that the bar area was in the process of being redeveloped which meant we had to sit in a sterile temporary room. This was not the best environment to meet people and have a reunion. Also the room was poorly cleaned this time.

Review 25:We like staying here because of its location.

Review 26:Didn't like being charged for a coked breakfast when I had a continental and a colleague was over charged for a small glass of wine!

Review 27:Very comfortable room. Excellent bed and bathroom.

Review 28:No mobile signal, no WiFi in room (only connected when in Reception). Totally useless for personal use and more importantly, unacceptable as a business hotel.

Review 29:Grounds

Review 30:There are a lot of electronic gadgets in the bedroom which have a green light on them to show in operation at night they light up the room

Review 31:Great view from the breakfast room. Staff very responsive when things go wrong.

Review 32:Bar staff was not familiar to when food was served until, and even after he was told he did not detail all that was available so we decided against eating our main meal at the hotel.

Review 33:price was reasonable

Review 34:No hot water on day of arrival & a rota system to use showers in another part of building. Dirty stair carpets on way to room filled me with dread, but room was fine. Room decorations not finished. Expensive with breakfast not included. Taxis unbelievably extortionate - they should put a warning on website.

Review 35:Staff friendly and helpful. Newly refurbished room. Fabulous bathroom. Bed and pillows so very comfortable.

Review 36:A bit reliant on having a car to get there and back from Farnham. Taxis work out at £15-22 either way depending on time of day and public transport is absent. We would have stayed in Farnham but everywhere was fully booked but the surroundings were a benefit.

Review 37:Lovely location with a nice circular walk around Frensham Great Pond on your doorstep. Lovely and quiet. In fact there are lots of walks nearby in the heaths and the scenery was lovely. Farnham is an attractive Surrey town and the Castle was a lovely setting for a wedding.

Review 38:Unfortunately when we arrived there was a problem with the hot water - there wasn't any. We were advised that it would be 2 or 3 hours before the hot water would be available as the hotel was waiting for an engineer. As we were attending a function and didn't live too far away we were able to go home and come back again. Others not so. A room was made available in another part of the hotel that had hot water, but you had to book a 20 minute slot and seeing as the hotel was full it was difficult for us as we were against the clock!

Review 39:Beautiful location, modern very clean room with good facilities when working!! Would stay again. Good breakfast choice.

Review 40:Executive suite???? Do me a favour. It looked like a Butlins chalet although the interior was very well appointed. Also we requested an extra bed only to be told that this was a special request and not a guarantee!! Hello - how else do you accommodate 3 people!!!

Review 41:The area, the staff, the food at the reception we attended was excellent. My partner is a chef and he was very impressed with everything but the vegetable

Review 42:Rooms fantastic but the bar was being refurbished. We got a drink in the library but it was so brightly lit it felt like a dentists waiting room. The restaurant did not look appealing, again no atmosphere. There were no other pubs within walking or taxi distance so I ended up driving. Not great after a 5 hour drive. I cannot fault the staff or the rooms though and I'm sure it will be great when the bar is complete.

Review 43:Felt like an elderly home. Breakfast was terrible and staff didn't seem to have had any formal training

Review 44:Renovated, clean although not quite to our taste

Review 45:They are just finishing a refurbishment, and if I were them I would sack the builders as the quality of finish and level of snagging is poor! Also access for disabled, including lighting and signage, needs inprovement.

Review 46:Staff very good. Food good. Overall a lovely facility.

Review 47:We booked one of the cheaper rooms. Unfortunately, the shower didn't work. We were moved into the next room, and upon putting our clothes into the cupboard, the rail collapsed. We had to repair it ourselves, as the staff appeared unable to deal with it. We were not offered a discount or offered another room. Maybe because we were in a 'lower priced' room? If it hadn't been for the above reasons, we would book again as we need to have a good base for future stays in the area. We were not made to feel like valued customers. We will be looking elsewhere now.

Review 48:The hotel was very clean. Polite staff. Overall, a pleasant place to stay.

Review 49:Hotel was recently refurbished with builders still working! Hotel had an empty, impersonal feel, bar had minimal tables & chairs no decorative additions- table lamps, pictures, or music. Decor in hotel needed to be more in keeping with English country location. Bed was big but not soft. Bad mobile signal!

Review 50:Stunning location, opposite a beautiful lake, with ducks & tame swans! Night porter very helpful, opened bar for late drinks & food after a wedding.

Review 51:We were in the executive suits which were not refurbished and set apart from the hotel .Was very comfortable but not as nice as the lovely rooms in the hotel. Were reassured that these will be again the executive suits when refurbished was given a discount for the disappointment .

Review 52:Lovely location, staff were excellent hotel has been refurbed and is lovely.

Review 53:I think the breakfast is over priced, paid over £13 for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Review 54:I like the decor it was fresh and different which makes change to your usual hotel setup.

Review 55:Paid for breakfast through booking.com Had to pay again on arrival. In addition, on finally leaving there were multiple double charges.. took them 4 attempts to get the final bill correct and not overcharge for the rooms and the breakfasts.

Review 56:Location

Review 57:I ordered a Cesar's salad and threbwasnfish in it :-( The selection of beers at the bar is rather limited - the English ale was out at 9 pm

Review 58:Recently refurbished hotel, very nice and clean Picturesc environment (nature), ideal for some days away from trouble, business and traffic Nice combination of old and new buildings

Review 59:I thought the breakfast was expensive, I don't eat full breakfast and they still wanted to charge full price just for toast and orange juice

Review 60:Very quite location, helpful staff.

Review 61:Hotel took money as soon as booked and not as described on booking.com site so if you're unsure don't book as you will lose your money if you cancel!

Review 62:nice location with friendly staff

Review 63:Bar area is to bright. To many down lights and as it is all new there is a. Very cliniclal feel to it. Food was ok . But a little bit like a cafe . And I had the cleaner just walk in . To both are surprise , as I had just sowed.

Review 64:Room was very comfy. Shower was good. Room alround was of a very good standard.

Review 65:Builders were burning rubbish on site creating smoke with unpleasant smell

Review 66:Quiet location, with a lovely outlook over Frensham Pond. The recently refurbished room was a good size with excellent facilities. The shower was great.

Review 67:Terrible hotel room, curtains falling down, paint flaking off the walls. Reminded me of a cheap 'motel' room. Our back door had been left unlocked and the chain broken (without us realising) with our belongings inside. Full '24 hour' room service menu but no phone to call and employees at reception unable/unwilling to help.

Review 68:Lovely location, potential for hotel to be lovely.

Review 69:For me the modern bland interior was at odds with the olde world charm of the location and building exterior. Whilst the disabled bedroom provided wet room facilities for my wheelchair using mother, access around the hotel was far from perfect - and would be totally unsuitable for a disabled traveller travelling alone as there was no disabled access to the main entrance or check in area. Access to the dining hall was via a side entrance with difficult sprung double doors via an outside journey from the accessibility bedroom. There is only one accessibility bedroom and one disabled parking space too (which was already taken when we arrived at the venue so we had to park at the back and get Mum into her wheelchair and then walk her round to the front of the hotel (only to be shown round to the side entrance)!

Review 70:The refurbished rooms were roomy and quite luxurious. The staff were without exception extremely courteous and helpful. I loved that an iron and ironing board were provided in each room - we were able to iron our wedding clothes etc.

Review 71:The setting overlooking the ' Pond ' and general location. The quality of the stay and comfort. Evening meal was delicious Location to Cain Manor

Review 72:They always seem to have wedding receptions at the weekend, so a bit noisy and crowded for everyone else. Go during the week! Restaurant was a bit drab.

Review 73:The view over the lake, with geese, swans, ducks and sailing boats, is really beautiful on a sunny day. The room and bed were a good size, with all mod cons.

Review 74:There was a wedding taking place which dominated the hotel and restricted access and facilities for the other hotel guests.

Review 75:Location, food, room, staff.

Review 76:The hotel is in a superbly located in lovely Surrey heathland overlooking Frensham Pond. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the room had recently been refurbished to a high standard.

Review 77:Wedding disco until midnight. The hotel is not yet completely refurbished.

Review 78:We had a newly refurbished room which was excellent. Breakfast very good Location by the lake is beautiful

Review 79:Room service came with a bottle of white wine instead of the ordered redwine. The chain to lock the terrace door did not function as somebody have removed half of the chain. The cold water in the handwash was only dripping and trying to adjust for more it became burning hot and therefore not possible to wash your hands except in the bathtub. Light in the magnifying mirror did not work.

Review 80:I had a few issues with hot water in the mornings

Review 81:Location was perfect for my trip. The terrace overlooking the pond was beautiful for a summer evening, very peaceful

Review 82:Hotel lacked a bit of character, understand has recently been refurbished so maybe a few pictures on walls in bar are to follow?

Review 83:Friendly and helpful staff, good food, lovely location, clean.

Review 84:Was put in a butlins style chalet very dated and needed a good clean spiders webs everywhere, bed was like bricks never slept, door to "chalet" would open with a decent push

Review 85:Used my debit card to secure room when I checked in. When I checked out I paid in Cash. 2 days later saw that the hotel had also taken the money from my card. I've ended up paying for the hotel room twice and despite being told the money would be back in my account in 10 days, 4 weeks later it still hasn't been returned.

Review 86:Very pretty location

Review 87:The bed was a little too soft for us and there was no top sheet. My husband was too warm with the duvet and too cold without it. A top sheet would have been the solution.

Review 88:We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The grounds are beautiful and restful.

Review 89:Booking was in wrong name and a bit annoyed as breakfast went up by £5 if you didn't book the night before we weren't sure if we wanted breakfast when we checked in .

Review 90:The room was very clean and comfortable .

Review 91:Far too expensive for what it is. Everything is so expensive, which thestandard didn't meet up to. I missed breakfast and they told me Icouldn't get a refund, even though I paid extra.

Review 92:I loved the location and the bed was unbeatable but that's it. Thestaff were lovely if you could find them.

Review 93:No grap rail high up for elderly in shower phone not working in executive bedroom very slippery bath bed was so so facilities for disabled guest non existent- rail needed on steps/ SEEMED unfinished and bleak in design No proper comfortable lounges Breakfast usually NOT included. At this very high price it should have been

Review 94:the manager changed my bedroom to one which was excellent.WHY WASNT I GIVEN THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE? Was given complimentary breakfast Outlook

Review 95:Too many to list but including: - Unable to contact reservations for a whole week prior to arrival. - Renovation work everywhere. - No locks on bathroom doors in room and public ones. - 9am drilling outside room. - Probable health and safety issues with the fire doors. - Cold water in room on 1st day. - News paper ordered but only delvered 1 day out of 3. etc etc

Review 96:The location

Review 97:Booked for nature. Got room with view on kitchen ventilation turbines. Extremely noisy!!! Receptionist said we had been upgraded (!!!). Asked for downgrading to get silence! Got explanation that turbines would be turned of 10h30 pm. True. But they started again 04h30 am. Kitchen must learn how to make Hollandaise (melted butter) and Panna Cotta (heavily overdosed gelatin)!

Review 98:Didn't pick up on major works, was a bit out of the way and as we had travelled from Scotland we were a bit concerned when we arrived at hotel.

Review 99:Two rooms we had were excellent as rest of hotel was under construction, breakfast ws fine, in the main staff were pleasant.

Review 100:The main guy on reception, it is literally a building site!!!!

Review 101:I complained to the receptionist, he really could not be bothered with us but he went to a colleague and we were moved in to the main hotel, this place is a building site and when we originally booked we were not informed of this.

Review 102:Heating in rooms was not working although portable heaters were provided. We walked through a building site to get to our rooms.

Review 103:Great location, room very good standard. Would maybe go again AFTER the building work is completed Staff were very nice and although the restaurant was closed the bar meals were nicely cooked.

Review 104:The building site. The hotel is very modern, despite the views shown of the now unused old building Menu was not as described, only bar meals available

Review 105:Location. Very quiet

Review 106:The hotel is trying to do it'so best at the current time but the evening meal was limited

Review 107:Although the hotel is currently being renovated it was isolated and comfortable

Review 108:The suprise that the hotel was a complete building site spoiled the visit from the outset. Booking.com have put the fact there is renovation work going on in the fine print of the booking page and when complained they seem to think that this almost hidden information was acceptable. The price of the breakfast was also wrong as the hotel wanted to charge £13.95 for breakfast in a makeshift restaurant. Overall it was one of the worst hotel stays that I have experienced.

Review 109:I was lucky to be in a newly renovated room, but the rest of the hotel and route to my room was shockingly poor. There was also a very bright night light in the ceiling of the room that couldn't be turned off.

Review 110:Real. Ale needs some attention. Pint I had was far from at its best!

Review 111:Friendly staff who were very helpful when I forgitt my toothbrush! Ate in bar which was good.

Review 112:the hotel is a buildings site under renovation . temporary reception. small area for meals. twin room was a family room one double one put up bed. food quality poor breakfast poor. leisure centre closed view from the room builders skips they only have a few usable rooms and are charging full price stay away until at least may 2015

Review 113:nothimg

Review 114:I stayed here twice, in different rooms. The room away from the carpark was great. The room next to the carpark was rather noisy - cars and the main building door slamming throughout the night. Not enough to stop me staying here again though!

Review 115:Comfortable bed, good food and welcoming staff.

Review 116:Once again hard to review, as most of the dinning facilities were being ripped out, but if they are done to the same standards as the rooms, will I am sure be spectacular.

Review 117:It was hard to review, as hotel under-going a full referb, but we were given one of the newly referbed rooms, absolutely fab, when the whole project is complete will easily be four or five star. well done best western

Review 118:Did not want a big meal so restaurant not visited, bar area not very inviting for a bar meal offered. Hopefully this will be addressed in the pending refit

Review 119:Nice warm room waiting for us on a cold winters night. Fabulous view from the breakfast room over the lake, and a good breakfast too. Notified of the alterations in progress, but was not a problem

Review 120:Lack of style. Breakfast was old fashioned and nothing special. For eg coffee came in China pot not cafetière

Review 121:The friendliness & can do attitude of the staff. Location and views.

Review 122:They are in the middle of a refurb and are trying to run down stocks on everything before shutting. The Bar Menu was limited (a few things off). Wifi was a bit flaky in the room dipping in and out which made working very hard. I gave up in the end. It will be great once the refurb is done.

Review 123:Attentive and helpful staff Decent room Comfy bed Great setting

Review 124:Poor wifi, very slow connection. Not the hotel's fault but location meant on 3 mobile network had no signal, for business in the area unfortunately would have to stay somewhere else. The hotel is quite 80's.

Review 125:Very nice and helpful staff, very comfy room/bed. The lake view is stunning!

Review 126:Shower hot water did not work TV did not work... Which with young one was tough

Review 127:Staff were excellent - attentive and efficient. Location was fine Ease of parking

Review 128:Nothing. We will certainly return to the hotel.

Review 129:We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were excellent - efficient, cheerful and friendly - both on Reception and in the bar and restaurant. We did have a couple of issues to start with, but I could not fault the way the staff dealt with the problems and sorted them out. There are refurbishment works going on, but these did not impact on our stay at all. Finally, the chef was very good and we had some excellent meals. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 130:Nothing!

Review 131:The friendliness and care given by the staff to their guests. The situation of the hotel is beautiful by the 'pond' which is an understatement for the lake. Very relaxing and carefree.n

Review 132:See breakfast..old dishes..room Had odor ..bathtub worn out. Was disappointed.

Review 133:The bed and pillow. Breakfast staff were too quick to take away dishes. Hovered too closely checking for empty plates

Review 134:the bed was soft and we sank into the middle

Review 135:the hotel is about to be refurbished so comments now may be irrelevant shortly. We were only there for sleeping so cannot comment on rest of hotel

Review 136:Staff team did not speak English very well, didn't actually meet any English staff! Pipes make loud noises during the night. Bed just ok, bit hard and cheap feeling. Wrong paper delivered in the morning, I say delivered, as it was raining they just left in reception so "it didn't get wet"! Hmmm.

Review 137:Bathroom was great! Breakfast was good, but pricey.

Review 138:bed and particularly pillows like concrete...also upgraded to "executive suite" not quite sure why and would not have liked to have paid extra for what looks like a butlins holiday chalet....no control over heating in bathroom...

Review 139:polite and attentive staff...breakfast good....evening meal a bit too nouvelle cuisine for my taste...tasty but not for the hungry

Review 140:the road we had to take to it was narrow, but it was fairly easy to find. There is a better road from another direction, but was out of our way if we took it.

Review 141:the view from the dining room, overlooking the lake with all the different birds on it. We had a couple of minor mistakes due to my partners food allergy, but the staff were very quick to rectify.

Review 142:No elevator, however, staff promptly carried the cases up to the room for us and when checking out.

Review 143:Excellent restaurant, reasonably priced. Small but comfortable bar area. Beautiful views of Frensham Pond. Rooms well thought out and comfortable. Staff extremely friendly and courteous.
