Reviews for Rocksalt Rooms
Review 1:Only one small thing. Family room breakfast basket, glasses, cups etc only set up for two people even though three people were booked.
Review 2:Personal touches like leaving us a Christmas stocking. Very enjoyable stay.
Review 3:The "fish smell" just gets worse as this probably our 3rd visit. There also is no room to move in the bathroom and no wardrobe facilities . The shower room is also not getting cleaned correctly.
Review 4:We love the location and we love the comfort of the bedroom.
Review 5:Room was a little smaller then expected, but it did have everything we needed
Review 6:Beautiful place, staff were lovely, food was amazing and surroundings were beautiful! The place really stands out on the Folkestone harbour!
Review 7:This is advertised as a four star and yet it provided no wardrobe, drawers, seating or surface space for anything, let alone work space for laptop if one wanted to work as I had in the evening. There were no hangers and the mirror was so far from a plug socket that I could not use it to dry my hair! It was cramped and their were no means to communicate with the staff other than to walk across the street to the Rocksalt restaurant. I requested an iron and ironing board and was told to leave it outside my bedroom after use in case others wanted to use it, and it then disappeared so it was not available for the next day. Remember, I had no hanging space or hangers! The smell of cooking fat from the fish shop below was overpowering and made me feel sick. The Continental breakfast served in a basket hamper was left outside the room in the morning, but not until 8.30am both days, by which time I was off to work and then there was nowhere to sit and eat it anywhere, other than on the bed. Rant over!!
Review 8:Bed was comfortable and bedlinen good quality
Review 9:As previous of comments have said, the Rocksalt Rooms are positioned above a Fish n Chip Shop and we could smell the fat but it wasn't a major problem. My only small gripe was there was no surface where I could "get ready", even a shelf under the mirror in the 2nd room would have been useful.
Review 10:My husband & I stayed in the family room as it was the only room available at the time. The rooms are compact but had everything we needed for our overnight stay. The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable, it's a perfect location and we'd definitely recommend it! We had an evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning, both were lovely and the staff were very friendly.
Review 11:Room too hot with no AC or ventilation without opening (sea view room) doors, then noisy as room located above fish and chip shop and early morning 'harbour' noises!
Review 12:Quirky small room okay. Not enough storage/hanging/shelves for clothes, toiletries etc. Comfortable bed
Review 13:I didn't like the fact that I'd paid for breakfast but it was only a hamper, a cooked breakfast was extra. The second morning we didn't even receive the hamper
Review 14:I loved the location. I also liked the quirkiness of the rooms.
Review 15:Wifi didn't work though they sent someone to fix it. Rooms are located over other restaurant "Smokehouse", which makes rooms smell a little. For one night no problem, longer period would probably make visitors clothing smell...
Review 16:Very stylish location, excellent restaurant, friendly and polite staff.
Review 17:There is an overall aroma of fish but you are in a working harbour so kind of inevitable.
Review 18:Very handy for exploring Folkestone and the bed extremely comfortable. The room was well designed but snug and the wetroom was also a neat fit. OK for one/two nights but not for a longer stay.
Review 19:The room was very hot, can't sleep the whole night, for anything need to go rocksalt restaurant. Overall that not a kind of 4* hotel where you can spend £115 p/n.
Review 20:Modern decoration
Review 21:Hard to find where to check in (rock salt restaurant, across the road from the accomodation). Shelves too small for all the stuff on them and would benefit with a small fridge.
Review 22:Rock salt bar had fantastic views across the harbour. The cooked breakfast was superb, worth the extra money and the staff friendly and helpful.
Review 23:It was a shame that the milk didn't arrive until the morning, this meant that we couldn't have a hot drink in the evening. There was a great deal of noise from the main door, people coming and going. The door slams very loudly.
Review 24:The decor of the room is lovely. The complimentary breakfast was a beautiful touch.
Review 25:Das Zimmer war extrem klein und verfügt über praktisch keine Abstellflächen und auch über keinen Schrank. Das Bad ist ebenfalls winzig.
Review 26:Originelle Unterkunft, unkompliziert.
Review 27:Staff, one Hungarian young lady and one Austrian were very polite, helpful, and friendly. Situation close to the harbour in an historical setting. Area known to us from 40 years previously. Rooms unusual but clean and comfortable and well presented.
Review 28:There was a super flashy coffee machine and cups tea bags and sugar , no milk , the restaurant opens for breakfast at 8.30 so we had to have black coffee and tea in our room. Not a massive issue and I'm sure if Rocksalt had been open it would have been remedied very quickly just bad luck we didn't notice the night before
Review 29:The staff were helpful and polite , nothing was too much trouble
Review 30:We had booked rooms at Rocksalt assuming the rooms were in the same building as the restaurant. It was our second anniversary and I wanted to wear something nice with heels for our meal at the restaurant. When we checked in, we were told to follow the lady, who took us outside, across the road, down an alleyway and in through some doors. Our room was great, but was above the fish and chips shop. As the roads were cobbled, I didn't feel in the mood then to wear my heels or nice dress, as the area itself was pretty average and run down looking. I think the description when reading about the hotel does not avail to the fact that the accommodation and restaurant are separate. Also, the location of the rooms means you are in quite a noisy area, especially from 5am, where I was awoken from noise from the street and it didn't stop. Definitely not very relaxing Our experience with the restaurant wasn't great either, so all in all our anniversary evening was ruined due to the bad service there. What we did have as appetisers and the Oysters were tasty, but we were sat so disappointed with the experience, that we decided against having our main meal there. Inexperienced staff and all quite young. Even when we complained about the lack of attention, it was pretty much met with raised shoulders. Shame
Review 31:The room was quirky and nice. Bed was comfortable and we had a nice view of the Harbour from the patio doors that faced the street
Review 32:We booked two rooms and dinner for a family birthday which was perfect. from arriving in Folkestone for pre dinner drinks through to brunch the following day the staff looked after our every need and the food was excellent and served perfectly.
Review 33:for the room we had to go trough a small ally and the room was very small as was the bathroom. very noisy in the morning.
Review 34:good food and nice view of the harbour whilst dining friendly staff a nice bar with excellent cocktails and atmosphere. the hamper was a nice attention
Review 35:We really couldn't fault our stay at the Rocksalt rooms. Everything was spot on, from the location, the complimentary breakfast, the service......couldn't ask for more. Thank you to all at Rocksalt for making our stay such a wonderful experience
Review 36:Very tight bedroom and bathroom. Very cramped with 6ft 2" husband. Room was above fish and chip shop, so there was a strong smell of frying fat. Outside lane too noisy at night to leave window open to disperse smell.
Review 37:Staff were good.
Review 38:Lack of usable wifi, shower a little tight, whole bathroom gets drenched, but really that's not a big problem, bathrooms were very cute.
Review 39:Very cute rooms, right by the harbour, kettle, coffee maker. Brought fans as soon as I asked.
Review 40:The bed was very uncomfortable and pillows were too thin for both of us. I didn't sleep at all and got up with a bad back.
Review 41:The location over looking the harbour was lovely, andthe staff were very accommodating.
Review 42:Nothing bad, mall really good. Would have preferred a sea view room but none were available.
Review 43:Excellent staff, and very comfortable room. Really convenient for Rocksalt, which was superb, and for the sister "Chippie", Smokehouse.
Review 44:You can hear everything from every other room. Excellent location but zero view from La La Room - I wouldn't mind this too much if it had been made clear in the room description.
Review 45:Style, exposed brick, small but perfectly formed.
Review 46:WiFi didn't work the entire time we were there. It seems it's not set up to cope with more than a few devices - definitely not with a house full of guests. For a hotel in this price category, this should really be addressed. When checking out, we were charged the full price rather than the discounted one that Booking.com had offered us. When we went back to complain, the staff wasn't able to deal with it on the spot. We had it sorted later over the phone, so no big deal - but I hope they don't blame the poor staff for this because really, they should have been trained properly in how to operate the booking system.
Review 47:Rooms are beautifully done - cute, modern look and very comfortable. Having a breakfast hamper delivered to the room (included in the price) is a really nice touch - and very yummy on top of that.
Review 48:The wifi isn't great... Bad signal and almost non-existent. But it did force us to enjoy our break rather than check emails.
Review 49:Absolutely loved our mini break to Folkstone and staying in the room at Rocksalt. We booked a family room and were pleasantly surprised to find it had two bedrooms. The shower/wet room is small but perfectly formed. The staff were really great too. Very happy! Would stay there again.
Review 50:We stayed in La La room and the smell was constant from the Fish & Chip shop below and in the morning we left the room early do to the overwhelming smell. Such a shame as everything else was just great.,
Review 51:Great Bar and restaurant , staff were fantastic and very welcoming.
Review 52:The room was so tiny. There wasn't anywhere to put anything, no drawers only 4 pegs to hang clothes. The bathroom had a small shelf under the mirror for toiletries. The mirror wasn't anywhere near a plug.
Review 53:The staff and the bed were first class
Review 54:We didn't find any details about the room either beforehand or in the room. It would have been nice to know the breakfast arrangements.
Review 55:Good position and sea view and very near to Rocksalt restaurant.
Review 56:The smell of cooking oil, you notice it when you walk in, the room is located above fish&chip shops. The lack of table surfaces to place things.
Review 57:The view of the harbour. The breakfast hamper is a nice touch, you can have breakfast in bed.
Review 58:Nothing bad!
Review 59:We stayed in 'Valentine' apartment all named after historic fishing families, it was so beautiful, clean and comfortable( think instagram/ Pinterest) the food in the restaurant was amazing! We were leaving very early so the staff made us a wonderful hamper for the morning. Such a friendly place.
Review 60:The overwhelming smell of fish in the room probably from restaurant below room! Loud banging of front door by others. Wonder what room with the view would have been like!
Review 61:The breakfast hamper delivered to the room. Restaurant was great.
Review 62:We did not get to sleep till early hours of morning due to hearing other guests noises so hardly got no sleep. Thank goodness my young son was not there to hear it as it was a family room we stayed in You can hear other guests conversations movements etc it was not what you expect for the money we paid. The facilities are basic there is no storage for belongings at all. Milk for tea was given in a bottle so went off after a few hours soon milk for morning cup of tea or coffee. The price that was charged is too over priced & we never got any compensation or offer of free breakfast to make up for the fact we got no sleep even though we told a member of staff.
Review 63:Comfy bed nice location
Review 64:the internet service was not great in the room although fine in the restaurant and bars. The room lacked storage space but for a one night stay was ok.
Review 65:Friendly service, great location and food. The room lacked storage space but for a one night stay was very nice having a very comfortable bed.
Review 66:Funnily enough I wasn't impressed with the food!!! Which is the main selling point in theory!!!
Review 67:Staff and room lovely. Folkestone Harbour is great and room so close to it. Great views.
Review 68:Nowhere to put anything - no shelves or stools in bathroom and because it's a wet room you couldn't put your toilet bag on the floor either! All surfaces were covered in bedroom and there was nowhere to hang clothes except on coat hooks. There could usefully be lighting in the passageway outside the bedroom block.
Review 69:The view from our room and lovely style of decor plus friendliness of staff on arrival and at dinner We enjoyed ourselves thank you
Review 70:Can't fault Rocksalt - rooms or the restaurant. The staff are incredibly friendly, the room just right for a night away and the food - dinner and breakfast was exceptional.
Review 71:Not enough nespresso capsules in room. Couldn't stay longer than one night as there is no hanging space or drawers to put belongings away. Shower room lovely, but shame no bath and water pressure low.
Review 72:Great room with very comfortable bed. Good facilities and lovely touch with the nespresso machine
Review 73:Parking would be a pain if you arrive early or want to leave late. Street 2hr free parking but can't return for 1 or 2 hrs after. In summer this would probably be near impossible to find a park anywhere nearby. Room was small, photos make The rooms look spacious than they are. Very nice though.
Review 74:Great view, I paid £10-15 extra for a room with a view. Nice spot
Review 75:Not the largest room but big enough. Stairs and doors are very noisy- we were woken by footsteps of a couple leaving at 6am.
Review 76:Stylish room with harbour view. We stayed here as we wanted dinner at Rocksalt without having to drive home afterwards. Meal was excellent as was cooked breakfast in the morning. Enjoyed a bracing walk along the seafront.
Review 77:No storage at all.. Couldn't stay more than one nite.. No parking-although on website it said parking- this resulted in a £35 parking fine in the morning! (Was very misleading!) Hair dryer needs cleaning as only blew out cold air- filters were filthy! Wi fi was rubbish- kept losing it Wet room wasn't the best.. Was nice and comfy although next door and upstairs guests -noise was horrendous, sounded like they were in the same room, and that was just walking across the floor and tv on!
Review 78:Room was nice Bed was comfy Location was good Breakfast hamper was a nice touch
Review 79:No where in either of the rooms we stayed over our 4 night stay to unpack clothes. There were coat pegs, one room had hangers in but the other didn't. Our 1st room was beside or above a plant room which made a loud & recurring noise from a generator perhaps. This affected our sleep 2 nights in a row so had to say something. The did move us. However although not as loud the noise was still noticeable. On our last morning we decided to treat ourselves for a full English. Presented ourselves at the bar to be told it wasn't served till 11am. The lady was surprised we were guests at the hotel! Not great customer service.
Review 80:Liked the look of the overall finish on the room. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast hamper with croissants, jam, yoghurt & muesli, fruit juice was a treat. The staff were understanding about out complaint, changed our room & didn't charge us more (apparently it was a more expensive room, did have a sea view but not much bigger). When we did have a full English breakfast in the bar, they allowed 4 friends to join us.
Review 81:Bedside tables are very small, could be made a little bigger, without compromising space! I know it sounds petty, but when you put a drink down in the middle of the night, you are taking a chance that it actually hit the table. Unfortunately for us, it didn't, so we was cleaning up glass. Still a fab little room though, and would definitely be returning!!
Review 82:Rooms were very nice although a little on the small side. Bed was really comfortable and room was spotless. Right on the harbour with a 2 minute walk from the restaurant, and the local pubs, great location! Restaurant was Fab, look forward to our next visit!!
Review 83:Someone obviously took a lot of trouble designing the look and feel of the room (La La) but obviously hasn't actually stayed in it. The comfortable bed takes up most of the space with no room for a chair to relax in, so fine for an overnight but not a longer stay. My better half would not appreciate the lack of a mirror in the bedroom for the usual titivation. Wet rooms are great when space is ample but when it's more of a wet cubicle, not so much. The shower head needs fixing or replacing. Almost great but falls short on practicalities making it feel over-reaching and over-priced. (But the restaurant makes up for most of this.)
Review 84:The bed was comfortable. The location by the harbour is great but might be an issue in busier times - I was there in early December. Not all rooms have sea views, which is fine if you know ahead. The rooms are close to the fabulous Rocksalt restaurant (highly recommended).
Review 85:Couldn't dry my hair and look in the mirror due to location of mirror and plug sockets. Shower head needed de-scaling and sprayed across the room. The view wasn't that good.
Review 86:It was near the restaurant the bed was comfy and the room was nice an warm.
Review 87:Bathroom (inc toilet!)had not been cleaned since last visitors use. Unfortunately also no basics in bathroom eg shower cap, shampoo. Disappointing.
Review 88:Fantastic location, staff very friendly and helpful. Comfortable stay.
Review 89:wet room and toilet rather small and cramped but for an overnight stay just acceptable!
Review 90:incredible food and service in the quay side restaurant, with amazing views across to France.....and a very keen breeze! Comfortable bed too.
Review 91:The room didn't come with any shampoo or soap and also the heating did not come on at all which at the start of November I can tell you was much needed. Luckily the duvet was good quality so we didn't freeze. Although when getting up in the morning it was a little shock to the system.
Review 92:It was in a great location with stunning views of the harbour. The room was modern and clean.
Review 93:Upstairs bar totally spoilt by awful rubbish music- far too loud & destroying the ambiance despite the great view - shame
Review 94:Great location of room with superview.Restaurant superb with good choice & excellent service. Had good Puglia White wine
Review 95:Great location on the harbour front , beautiful boutique rooms , friendly welcoming staff and fantastic food with fabulous cocktails . Our favourite place to escape .
Review 96:Secure parking wasn't available, but there is a good one just the other side of the harbour at £5.00 for overnight.
Review 97:Rooms were well decorated and a view from the juliette balcony was over looking the harbour The rooms are a short walk away from the restaurant....Which has a fantastic menu and decor too
Review 98:Seagulls were a bit noisey in the morning!
Review 99:The rooms are very tastfully decorated and the breakfast hamper a fantastic idea for a light breakfast. Food is perfect as usual from Rocksalt. I would reccomend a stay in the rooms to anyone.
Review 100:the light to the accommodation door was not working
Review 101:rocksalt is a great restaurant and bar would recommend for family's celebrating an occassion and a bonus that you can also book rooms to stay over
Review 102:We got ours cheaper via booking .com and even then over priced, tiny wet room for bath room, small bedroom, no storage or wardrobe rooms, more eye appeal than substance, over a fish restaurant very hot and very distinctive smell..entrance down a small smelly dirty alley, windows over looked..looks fab but not worth it.would not recommed the rooms but the restaurant and bar fantastic.
Review 103:Bar and restaurant fantastic.
Review 104:The room smelt of fish. The room very small and cramped. With windows open very noisy from ally way below. Despite two persons in the room, the breakfast basket contained only one cereal portion.
Review 105:Building is very stuffy and fans are needed in every room. Very little storage space. Noise and smells from the Fish warehouse below.
Review 106:Friendly staff. Very good restaurant.
Review 107:Don't be fooled by the amazing pictures on the website. The rooms are small, not well equipped, no toiletries as stated, not a choice of tea/coffee and no where to put any of your luggage so you live out of a suitcase. The noise from outside and the rest of the rooms was terrible. Also was a shock that our room was above a fish and chip shop. Rooms were very hot. Parking was terrible. Breakfast was in the restaurant and not hampers in the room as expected. No choice for breakfast, just cooked and that was not that good and the bread was stale. Considering what we paid not the best place we have stayed. Would not return.
Review 108:The bed was comfy and the room clean
Review 109:Even though its located overlooking the harbour the area is quite run down. The room is lacking in space so there wasnt anywhere to sit apart from a couple of wooden stools.
Review 110:Very comfy bed and lovely decor. Staff were FANTASTIC. One of the best restaurants I have ever dined in !
Review 111:We both found the dual shower in the room was difficult to operate, some pieces fell off and the water continued to run despite our best efforts to turn it off! We got soaked getting to the restaurant from our accomodation building as it was raining heavily and it involves a walk round the corner.
Review 112:Nice location overlooking a small harbour. Hotel restaurant was stylish and the food was of a good standard. The staff were efficient without being intrusive.
Review 113:We liked the breakfast basket
Review 114:This property is in a good location for the centre of town and for Rocksalt restaurant.
Review 115:Beautiful rooms, amazing helpful staff. Great food, breakfast was really good.
Review 116:Room very small
Review 117:Location good
Review 118:No external lighting to outside door area which was in a dark alley.
Review 119:Breakfast hamper in room. Coffee machine.
Review 120:So convenient for Harbour and Rocksalt restaurant
Review 121:Amazing hamper in the morning with fresh pastries
Review 122:Everything about the place great atmosphere Kool quirky room
Review 123:Great location by the harbour and next to the eponymous restaurant which is great for fish.
Review 124:Very helpful, welcoming staff
Review 125:No smoking was permitted on outside bar.
Review 126:The bed and attached restaurant were amazing.
Review 127:Couldn't get Wifi and no where to put anything. Building had a funny smell.
Review 128:Comfortable bed
Review 129:Staff were lovely. Food was excellent.
Review 130:The contemporary decor and the surprising quirkiness. very helpful staff wonderful aspect on the harbour. Well done, we loved it!
Review 131:Noisy seagulls
Review 132:The view was lovely and the staff very cheerful and friendly
Review 133:Shower , difficult not to get water all over the plsce
Review 134:View to the sea.
