Reviews for The Angel & Blue Pig

Review 1:The bathroom was a bit chilly and additional pillows would be good.

Review 2:Friendly staff and great location. Nice big room and lovely bathroom. The roaring fire and comfy sofa were great and the continental breakfast was adequate. Parking on site is a good bonus.

Review 3:We didn't originally get the room we booked but were put on the top floor and with a baby that wasn't the most convenient. Fairly noisy due to the old floorboards etc but part of the character of the place. Breakfast could be more all inclusive, it was limited to just a basic continental.

Review 4:The restaurant food was excellent, hotel decor was quaint but modern. Staff were friendly and helpful when advice was needed. Location excellent, parking available was definitely handy. Bar area was cozy and inviting.

Review 5:The only thing that was a little disappointing was the breakfast.

Review 6:Loved the room & the friendliness of the staff, they were very welcoming. Also, the location of the hotel was perfect.

Review 7:It was very hot in the rooms.

Review 8:Excellent facilities in the room including coffee machine, tea and chocolate. Comfy room. Excellent pub downstairs serving delicious fresh healthy food.

Review 9:A fab stylish pub and rooms very tasteful and quirky loved the angel wings!lovely staff very experienced helpful and happy a must for all visitors to lying ton food brilliant freshly cooked and we felt good value we hope to return

Review 10:Low water pressure meant that shower was not great. Breakfast was a bit haphazard

Review 11:Lovely big, comfortable room and great pub atmosphere downstairs. Good food. Good location.

Review 12:Staff didn't really seem to care or want to help from our arrival. Ceiling in bathroom was so low over the toilet which made it difficult for men. Bedroom was really stuffy and quite noisy at night as walls were thin and floors were very creaky. All in all very overpriced and a disappointing new years eve

Review 13:Good breakfast and decor throughout the hotel and restaurant.

Review 14:The restaurant was a bit off on the night we stayed. Poor service.

Review 15:Comfy bed. Very pretty room. Staff were very helpful when there was a misunderstanding about room allocation. Great bar and lounge area.

Review 16:Very welcoming ..a little complicated finding the car park when under pressure in the busy high street . Room very clean but bathroom very small , my husband is 6ft 4 and found it a squeeze .Also since it's an old building floor boards etc very creaky and overlooking the high street can be a bit noisy .Staff were obviously under pressure at breakfast running out of croissanta and lots of guests asking for tea /coffee /coast - perhaps they needed some extra help .

Review 17:Nothing really, it was all good. Maybe the breakfast choices could have been better, but I'm being really picky to take issue with that.

Review 18:Nice place in the centre of town - but with parking which is an advantage here. Great staff - very friendly but also efficient. They have a restaurant but you can also eat in the bar. The steak was excellent.

Review 19:Only comment is that there were a few cobwebs on the ceiling and hanging from the curtain pole. A couple of long dark hairs on the table next to the tea making facilities as if someone had brushed their hair. Also took us a while on the Sat to suss out where the car park was, complicated by the Sat market.

Review 20:Love the decor and room very comfortable. Food delicious.

Review 21:We weren't informed that our room was on the top floor in a meandering floor plan. As an arthritic and sciatic old codger that was difficult to say the least. Cleanliness in the bathroom was also a wee bit lacking. Room had no view. Breakfast was uninspiring and the toast had to be hunted down. I think at these sort of prices I was a tad underwhelmed.

Review 22:Good service, friendly staff, great location. Altogether great potential!

Review 23:Bathroom - nowhere for towels yo dry properly, coffee machine was not working properly and there was a hole in the tiling in the shower room

Review 24:The room decor and cosiness. Accompanied staff, great location and warm atmosphere

Review 25:Not being able to sit around the log fire on the Sat night as they had a private function in the area

Review 26:Position in the high street and the ambience of the Hotel

Review 27:Rather disappointed at how busy the bar was, with no designated space for residents. We chose this hotel as it was advertised as comfortable pub with open fires but we were never able to even find a seat in the evenings.

Review 28:great location near shops and a couple of good eateries

Review 29:Roaring fire in the lounge and lots of Christmas decorations which we loved. Lovely room with nice toiletries and bath robes Good food in the restaurant.

Review 30:Felt a little short changed when a cooked breakfast wasn't included. Wi fi signal was very poor. For the price I would have expected higher quality food

Review 31:Nicely appointed hotel, great location and very clean. Staff were friendly and attentive and bedroom was very comfortable

Review 32:Shower heads were very low if you were tall not good thought the price for cooked breakfast was little over priced

Review 33:Food was good continental breakfast was good

Review 34:Saturday morning had the market stting up very early outside.

Review 35:Great room, great staff and fantastic food. Even altered the food to account for me not being able to eat gluten

Review 36:The 'Michael' room was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and everything was really clean. It was great being in the middle of the high street and having the pub downstairs!

Review 37:Just found the bed a bit firm for our liking.

Review 38:Good location & great look and feel. Excellent, good quality food. Had a delicious breakfast & dinner. Staff helpful and amiable.

Review 39:Didn't have a bad experience but found en suite very small. The sink plug was cheap plastic and tied with string to the tap. The wardrobe was made from rough wood with no door and dressing table was an old door attached to this. The room was cold but found heating behind chair in the morning. We were cold in the bed. The pillowcases appeared clean but very creased as though they may not have been changed from previous time or certainly not ironed. The door to the room had a large gap at the bottom. Could get my toes under it. Had to block with blanket to keep out hall light. Think £130 per night was over priced.

Review 40:Liked breakfast and general ground floor area. Staff were pleasant.

Review 41:The bathrooms, no storage whatsoever, no where to put the towels. Loos, sinks and toilets slow to drain and flush. Breakfast was very poor unless you paid for hot food.

Review 42:The location, the staff and general ambience.

Review 43:Breakfast buffet a bit thin on Sunday. Croissants ran out and no marmalade , no cheese as on the previous day and had to ask for more meat.

Review 44:Location and great bathroom!

Review 45:The shower looked better than it actually was. The water pressure was pretty weak. Also, being on the high street our first night was incredibly noisy. It sounded like bin men were working outside our window all night. Thought it could've been the wind knocking windows etc but the 2nd night was peaceful (thank goodness!!!)

Review 46:We were met with friendly staff and the room was very comfortable and well-decorated.

Review 47:The only slight disappointment was breakfast on my last morning- I wanted to send it back but couldn't find anyone where we were sitting and I was hungover and tired! (Those last two parts are my fault)

Review 48:Loved everything about our stay- especially the staff! very friendly and helpful!

Review 49:When we arrived the male receptionist was rather unclean in appearance, he answered the phone whilst we were in front of him & kept us waiting a long time to check in. The continental breakfast was inadequate, the meat & cheese selection poor & no bread rolls. I asked for some marmalade every day but was told they had 'run out'.

Review 50:The location of the hotel is perfect being right in the middle of the High Street so very convenient for shopping and public transport, also free car parking behind hotel. It's quirky interior has many interesting objects & art and is welcoming & comfortable. Lovely complimentary chocolates in the bedroom & White Company toiletries in the bathroom.

Review 51:Checking in - had to wait for someone who knew what they were doing. Far too hot, mentioned to staff.

Review 52:The room decor and location. Good breakfast selection.

Review 53:Room was unbearably hot - Gabriel room. Bathroom area dirty in places. Staff initially helpful but overheard waiting to pay 'how many more to chuck out?' Not very customer friendly! We feel a full English Breakfast should have been available at that price, not an extra cost.

Review 54:Location was ideal for our purposes.

Review 55:Lovely place, room was excellent. The staff were very attentive. The chef should be commended as the steaks we had for dinner were cooked to perfection. The Saturday market was an added bonus. I would highly recommend you stay here.

Review 56:This stay was a gift for my parents. They had a wonderful weekend and said the food in the restaurant was excellent. The accommodation was superb and the staff were very attentive.

Review 57:Noisy room on street, broken tap in shower. New shower doors required. Grout falling out and mouldy. Breakfast was not a highlight.

Review 58:The bed was extremely comfortable with nice linen.

Review 59:Our room was nice but very warm even with the window open. This resulted in an uncomfortable nights sleep. For the price we paid you would have thought this included a cooked breakfast but it didn't!

Review 60:The area of Lymington was lovely. The hotel was lovely and the food was gorgeous.

Review 61:we were disappointed with the breakfast and not enough staff on to do the breakfast.

Review 62:the rooms were nice and clean , it was nice to see bottle water in rooms

Review 63:Continental breakfast not replenished fully and quickly enough. Had to wait for fresh food to appear. Not many staff around to ask.

Review 64:Lovely room comfortable bed.

Review 65:Noisy room, the room was next to the staircase. Also the room was far to hot to sleep in! You couldn't open the window as the road was to noisy.

Review 66:Friendly staff.

Review 67:Parking nightmare no bath no wardrobe no draws inch gape under door no heat until asked for it stood a reception 15 minutes before booked in guy on phone took no notice of us

Review 68:Good position in town

Review 69:We had lunch when we arrived, it was poached salmon in ciabatta, when it arrived the bread seemed hard and stale with a few skinny chips thrown on the plate. Also the breakfast was not well arranged, need more staff and ran out of croissants by 9 am Sunday...with a tesco next door?

Review 70:The room was lovely and comfortable.

Review 71:We didn't like the bathroom,it was very small,more of a cubicle.

Review 72:lovely shabby chic hotel. Food was excellent. Roaring fires and super dining area.

Review 73:Let down by some details - no hot water in the shower on the evening of our arrival, our Sunday newspaper arrived minus the supplements (the best bits!) and the coffee jar in the room was virtually empty. At breakfast we weren't offered toast or the cooked breakfast option and had to flag down the waiter after we heard other tables being asked if they'd like these. One or two of the staff could do with a bit more customer service training.

Review 74:Loved the historic building, our room (Canterbury) was beautiful and a good size. Ate a very nice dinner in the restaurant and the continental breakfast was pretty good. Friendly staff and we really liked the town itself.

Review 75:Not a 'bad' experience, but the restaurant staff didn't in any way acknowledge my comments about my pork being extremely salty. We ordered drinks prior to the meal, but arrived mid-meal, despite being asked twice if we would like drinks. My bottle of wine went to the wrong table. All seemed a little out of control.

Review 76:The town of Lymington and its location for the IOW ferry, the 300 year old coach-house has been wonderfully kept. Friendly atmosphere and staff. Very clean. Comfortable beds, linen etc. Parking. High street location, ideal for shops.

Review 77:No Soya milk was available, despite having requested it when making the reservation. Tesco is just a few yards away!

Review 78:Very pleasant atmosphere all round. Good continental breakfast. Comfortable room.

Review 79:Service was a little slow at times, particularly at breakfast. My room was at the front of the hotel on the High Street and the delivery vans at 0500 were more than a little disturbing as was the fact that the blind in the bathroom was behind the secondary glazing making it very difficult to access, curtains would spare the blushes of the people in Café Nero opposite......

Review 80:Good food and nice selection of Real Ales. Room was spacious, well appointed and comfortable

Review 81:The service was a bit hit and miss. Due to the refurbishments going on while we were there, The paint fumes were a bit overwhelming.

Review 82:The room was comfortable and had a lovely view of the Solent. The food was very nice.

Review 83:Of course I have a couple of niggles, nothing dire and they would not stop me from staying there again. The net curtain in room 7 needs a good wash. Despite contacting the hotel about preferring to be gluten free, when I booked, and mentioning it to the manager and waitress, who appeared to be helpful, in reality they had little on their excellent menu I could safely eat. Its something the chef might want to think about in future.

Review 84:This is a very pleasant little hotel, well, more of classy pub with an excellent restaurant and cosy rooms above. Its well located on the high street and there is good parking behind. The staff were very helpful, both in the bar and restaurant despite it being hectic, and (a real deal breaker for me normally) the wifi was fast and free. Had it not been for the niggles I would give the place 5 stars.

Review 85:The restaurant staff could be more attentive, we had to ask twice for a glass of wine and some tomato ketchup.

Review 86:Friendly and welcoming staff, free bottled water and The White Company toiletries in the room. The food we had in the evening was delicious!

Review 87:Terrible customer service in the restaurant, terrible food, slow and uninterested in customers.

Review 88:The room was nice and great location. Assistant manager helpful

Review 89:Nil.

Review 90:Good food. Character property. God choices for continental breakfast or cooked. Thoughtful extras. Our room under the rafters had sea view over rooftops of High St. Some rooms very small.

Review 91:A little noisy in the morning as our room was above the main street. We had a poor and expensive meal in the restaurant and breakfast was only continental.

Review 92:The hotel is over 500 years old so don't expect perfection. It is very well done up and comfortable. The staff were great and even took our bags up and down the three flights of stairs. A good stay in a historic building.

Review 93:Was not happy with the top floor room needed revamping very small shower also the breakfast was ltd unless you wanted to pay for any cooked which was expensive. Stayed last year same price much better room

Review 94:The location was very good in the town with just a short walk to the quay the bar was very friendly

Review 95:First room was ex noisy, manager agreed . moved to second room quiet, but the bathroom had foul smell. Probably why when we went into it the window was wide open. Felt let down.

Review 96:Liked the location

Review 97:It's slightly noisy as the floorboards are creaky and its in the town centre... However that's what you expect when you book to stay in an old style pub in a town centre :)

Review 98:The hotel has a really cool character, it's very comfortable and quirky.

Review 99:We struggled to gain access to the car park and find a complimentary parking space on arrival.

Review 100:Staff were friendly. Room was nice and clean. Cooked breakfast option was very nice.

Review 101:The room was cold with no way of us turning on the heating we had to go to reception to ask for the heating to be put on. Egg on toast at £5.00 was way too much money

Review 102:loved the room. Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 103:Challenging flight of stairs to the top floor for the older customer.

Review 104:Friendly staff. Good food. Interesting location on the High Street. Nice bedroom kept clean throughout our stay.

Review 105:Paint peeling off walls and ceiling in bathroom. Water or similar stain on bedroom wall. Carpet hanging loose off step into bathroom. Power point by the mirror blanked off.

Review 106:Room size was good.

Review 107:Evening meal in restaurant was very disappointing .Steak tough. Breakfast,no attetnative to dairy produce.ie butter .Had to visit Tescos for sunflower spread.

Review 108:Room very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Lovely view over Solent.

Review 109:Room nicely decorated but there were stains on carpet and skirting dusty. Lime scale on basin tap and stains on basin stand. For £130 per night i expected a better room. Food wise, starter excellent but let down by mains and dessert which were average, at £78 for 2 at dinner again i felt it was overpriced. Although Staff were friendly and welcoming, room was not what i expected and bathroom needed a good limescale removal clean!

Review 110:Great location staff friendly

Review 111:We were there for two continental breakfasts. On each occasion the hotel ran out of croissants. We had to wait about half an hour while more were purchased and warmed. A slow start to the day!!

Review 112:Car parking was convenient, with a coded barrier.

Review 113:Bit of an issue with first breakfast very slow service and untrained staff.this did improve on second morning (after complaining first day) be aware that Sat morn is market day so noisy if room at front woken at 4.30!!!

Review 114:Quirky room clean with nice bathrobes atmospheric pub with good menu. Good location in town and on site parking.

Review 115:The room we were given had many defects but it was changed as soon as we complained. However we should not have been given such a room in the first place.

Review 116:Characterful hotel in good location. Staff were willing to change our room when required and carry our case from 3rd floor (due to steep and curved staircase) Food good if not exceptional.

Review 117:Appalling lack of food and service at breakfast. Several other guests just got fed up with waiting, so they got up and left angry. I ordered poached egg and sausage, and 45mins later, I got served scrambled egg and bacon. By this time, I was the last person left in the dining room, but was hungry, so ate. I would suggest that management speak to staff, and ensure that whoever is rostered for early morning shift service actually shows up. It is unfair on those who do turn up, to be left holding such a disappointment on what is otherwise, a lovely product.

Review 118:Location is brilliant, right in the centre of the town. Rooms are well decorated, stylish, and a nice touch is having fresh ground coffee and a cafetiere in your room ready for the morning.

Review 119:Car parking facilities-cramped-not enough car park spaces Slightly noisy from the road Outside court yard was undergoing refurbishment during stay

Review 120:Great location, Style of property, nice bedroom furnishings and King size room was perfect. Bath and a shower with fluffy robes.

Review 121:sleep disturbed by noise from room above and early morning deliveries outside. Room was tired and needed to be redecorated, cracked basin, mould around the shower and cleaning was average.

Review 122:Good location and a comfortable bed

Review 123:not alot to dislike other than the menu which im sure was very high quality was a little above our budget and as with drinks we thought that £10 for 2 standard baileys was a tad pricey. overall though a great place.

Review 124:friendly staff and close proximity to everything.free and secure parking was great too.large screen tv was nice and the complimentary tea, coffee, chocolates, bottled water and biscuits was a nice touch.

Review 125:Great spot on high street. Nice room with added touches of tea/coffee etc. Lovely, welcoming staff. Good continental breakfast, lots of choice. Would have been even better if hot breakfast included but still very good selection included. Good value for money in area.

Review 126:Although the bed was big it was two pushed together which isn't the most comfortable thing (in the middle). Bathroom was a little run down as there was peeling paint by the window.

Review 127:Great location and friendly staff. The bedroom was quirky and had lovely selection of teas, cafetière coffee and chocolates.

Review 128:The breakfast bar wasnt re stocked suffciently in terms of speed and quantity ( fresh fruit was limited and could have been wider range of pastries etc)

Review 129:Nothing

Review 130:Fabulous place to stay. I let the female staff know we were arriving after closing time and she stayed up for us and stayed open while we had a drink and unwound from travel. So friendly and helpful.

Review 131:The breakfast staff were a little too eager to clear up on our second morning. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious but I shouldn't have eaten all of it.

Review 132:The bedroom was spacious and well decorated. Wifi was good and room extras like toiletries etc were to a high standard. Lovely chocolates.

Review 133:The shower was a little edgy. Drinks expensive in the bar

Review 134:Loved the king size bed although it was a little soft for me. Food was good quality. Cosy surroundings

Review 135:Only continental breakfast included in £125 one night rate. Seems a bit mean for a provincial hotel. Only given one slice of toast each. Where I come from, you get a toast rack.

Review 136:Lovely old building, view of Solent from top floor, imaginatively and freshly decorated room

Review 137:We had the burger in the restaurant and it wasn't as good as I would have expected from this hotel. We didn't try anything else but the continental breakfast was good.

Review 138:The hotel was well situated and well laid out. The bar was excellent with a good range of beers. All the staff were very attentive and good humoured.

Review 139:Breakfast advertised as included which is misleading, as you need to pay extra for a cooked breakfast as only a continental is included.

Review 140:Rooms are really nicely decorated.

Review 141:Bedroom next to v noisy extractor fan providing ventilation for the pub. Local supermarket wheeling huge lines of trolleys from the car park to the store under our bedroom window at 6 in the morning - don't see why they can't do that just before closing. Restaurant service quite slow - but we were given complimentary nibbles to compensate.

Review 142:Friendly staff, good decor. Food good in the restaurant.
