Reviews for Imperial Plymouth

Review 1:Perfect hosts always friendly, welcoming & nothing too much trouble, room decor is modern, fresh & clean, breakfast has vast choices & cooked fresh to order, high quality. Location is perfect, 5mins walk to local Hoe, Barbican & shopping

Review 2:nothing not to like. For a small hotel, the customer service was great and breakfast was lovely, a refreshing change to the usual low quality food you get in Plymouth guest houses and small hotels. Not necessarily a bargain but Plymouth is now getting pricey so I would recommend this.

Review 3:customer service and facilities Better than the usual boring guest houses and small hotels in Plymouth

Review 4:Nothing - all beyond our expectations.

Review 5:Excellent welcome on our late arrival and outstanding breakfast the following morning. The room was spotless, very well equipped, and comfortable. We were delighted with everything following a recent and far less successful stay at a 4* hotel in Venice! Highly recommended and would stay there again without hesitation.

Review 6:This is a well-kept private hotel, but there is some wear and tear.

Review 7:The kamers are lovely and made me feel very welkome. There was parking in the street and the hotel was an eaay walk away from restaurants etc.

Review 8:The parking was a little tight in a larger vehicle, but that's a minor gripe. Our trip the wifi was broken (not the hotels fault) but there was adequate 3G coverage on the upper and ground floor.

Review 9:The hotel staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the place was nice. It's close to The Hoe and Barbican which makes it easy and simple for dining, drinking or shopping. Breakfast at the Imperial was really well laid out and delicious.

Review 10:If I had to be picky why are the plug sockets in room flat against the floor? So unless you have plugs that have the wire coming out of top it's a struggle to get wire in without bending. Also the walls are paper thin and you can hear every noise. Toilets extremely nosey also. My room had a tiny shower just about enough room to turn round.

Review 11:Very friendly family run hotel. A very nice greeting on my arrival and my checkout was prompt and professional, including rearranging the car park so I could get off :-) Great location right by the hoe. Clean reasonably modern. Historical building. I didn't have time for breakfast as I had to leave at 7. Also didn't have time to check out bar etc but it looked ok.

Review 12:WiFi was out of action but this did not adversely affect my stay as I had an effective signal anyway.

Review 13:The location is excellent. The staff were efficient and welcoming. Facilities and breakfast were great too.

Review 14:Great place to stay very welcoming. And very knowledgeable, about the surrounding area. Made my a my partners stay very comfortable. And great a tasty breakfast menu. Keep up the good work.

Review 15:Leaking basin onto electric towel rail, plus loo seat very loose!

Review 16:The feel of the place and its decore! Great location near to Hoe and Barbican. Defiantly visit again

Review 17:I think breakfast service finishes way too early specially if you're having a night out. I would extend service until 10am and check out until 11am. And maybe push check-ins to 3 or 4pm.

Review 18:Room very cozy and comfortable, hotel very well located.

Review 19:We had to go to Plymouth for a funeral, and the hotel and the staff couldn't have been better. Friendly and helpful as we are elderly and have mobility problems. Plus the breakfast was first class.

Review 20:Only complaint is personal preference but cheap sachets of sauce are very off putting at breakfast. Bottles of ketchup please.

Review 21:Great location and friendly staff. Great breakfast

Review 22:That we only stayed for one night -wish it could have been longer!

Review 23:The room was a lovely surprise. It had the feel of a small establishment in regards to the attentiveness of the staff, but also embraced the modern grandeur of a more contemporary hotel, highly recommended!

Review 24:In a basement room so no view but didn't matter too much because of the time of year. They had put a pot of colourful cyclamens outside the window

Review 25:Really friendly clean hotel . Very quiet and comfortable room

Review 26:Really friendly staff, super clean! Good breakfast. Good advice given for lovely restaurant, Plymouth gin in the Barbican area, really close to the hotel.

Review 27:Absolutely perfect. Only regret is not arriving earlier to make more of our stay The level of service also was outstanding Will definitely stay here again

Review 28:None

Review 29:Excellent hotel lovely room staff and owners very friendly and helpful. Everywhere clean. Hotel good position for city centre Barbican and Hoe. Would highly recommend.

Review 30:I wish we had upgraded to a room on a lower floor ,the staircase to the top floor is quite steep..

Review 31:a very central location ,we were able to walk everywhere . The room was lovely and had a good nights sleep in the comfortable bed. The breakfast was outstanding with plenty of choices to choose from. All the staff were very friendly and helpful..

Review 32:As affordable hotels go this is by far the nicest I have stayed in. Fantastic selection for breakfast all freshly cooked. Room was clean with a nice powerful shower in the ensuit. Friendly staff, brilliant location as close to the hoe, barbican and town. Really do recommend this hotel for an affordable, clean, convenient, friendly and comfortable stay

Review 33:Room was to the rear of (and separate from) the hotel. It was a 'suite' with en suite shower room with WC and basin ( very small). No hot water in shower. Bed not comfortable.

Review 34:Friendly and efficient staff. Good breakfast. Good location. Clean and well decorated.

Review 35:Was not keen on the room is was small and down on the lower ground floor with no view at all. Was not very happy with the room as had part taken up with the ensuite and one of the beds looked straight at the wall. The TV was hard to use as you had to use two remotes - think they could have had an up to date TV really.

Review 36:The staff, location and cleanliness were excellent. Breakfast was really good value. This was an excellent for everything if you wanted city centre.

Review 37:Nothing to complain about.

Review 38:Pleasant and helpful staff, central location yet quiet. Well appointed room, including a shampoo dispenser and decent shampoo.

Review 39:Nothing could be described as bad but parking was very tight and in the end it was easier to pay £2 for on the street parking.

Review 40:The staff were so friendly and helpful. As we are both coeliac & dairy allergic we were glad of the care the Imperial offered. The special breakfast menu was excellent and we felt very safe. Staff were really well clued up.

Review 41:Bed was small with a wall at the foot and on a slope! Spoilt what was otherwise a good choise for a night in Plymouth

Review 42:Nice fresh feel to the hotel. Good staff. Quality breakfast

Review 43:From the first contact staff seemed genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. We as a group felt instantly relaxed and appreciated the professional, unintrusive attention from those looking after us. The breakfast was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - Bill Bailey wasn't bad either :¬)

Review 44:I was situated at the front of the hotel which was noisy & the water was luke warm at 'peak' time.

Review 45:The staff were very friendly. Breakfast service & choice was very good.

Review 46:Parking dreadful, they say there are limited spaces which is fine, but don't tell you , you will be blocked in ! I had to leave early and there was no one about to get cars moved, had I known this I wouldn't have stayed. Too much hassle at that time of the morning !;

Review 47:Comfortable clean room friendly staff good service, a good filling breakfast and good quality loo paper! What more do you need? Satnav directs to the rear of the building, which is good as this is where the car park is, however this is not immediately apparent, as satnav seems to lead you to the Drake hotel car park next door. A solution to this would be a "satnav" photo on the website or a larger sign for the carpark. However I will look forward to my next visit to Plymouth and overnight stay at the Imperial.

Review 48:room small, but suited our needs found the shower facility excellent staff and owners very helpful and friendly. breakfast was also excellent, staff very attentive

Review 49:All staff were welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 50:Hotel is opposite a refuge centre manned 24 hrs for abuse and violence.2 Police cars and 1 Police van called the night we were there,to calm things down. Saw a car being damaged..won't be going back in a hurry

Review 51:Place was clean, friendly and tidy.

Review 52:The building opposite houses a bunch of chavs. Had to witness in the early hours of the morning 6 police officers arresting a loss delinquent whom lived there.

Review 53:Staff and closeness to the station.

Review 54:A more comfortable mattress and pillows were my only complaint.

Review 55:Ability to leave luggage prior to and after checkout - helped us to extend our stay a bit longer. Lovely and quiet guesthouse, door key to come and go as you pleased.

Review 56:Nothing!

Review 57:Superb location for the city, Barbican and the Hoe. The rooms, breakfast and communal areas are to a high standard. The staff are very friendly and keen to help make your stay a good one.

Review 58:We could hear everything that went on in the room next to ours. It was not pleasant when the couple next door decided to have a fight at 3am in the morning. Definitely not the fault of the hotel though.

Review 59:Friendly staff, very clean, fantastic breakfast and lovely decor.

Review 60:bathroom needs upgrading, plenty of room for a proper shower. Bath has no antislip measures and no grab rails

Review 61:efficiency and friendliness of proprietor

Review 62:The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The generously proportioned breakfast was delicious and freshly made to order! We had a lovely stay.

Review 63:We felt there was nothing at all to complain about.

Review 64:Outstanding service, our room was very comfortable with plenty of space , spotlessly clean, and restful decor.

Review 65:Could do with some more plugs in the room (mostly taken up with the TV and lamps!); WiFi has been recently upgraded but it was still quite slow; TV signal kept losing many channels so had to be regularly returned.

Review 66:Great location next to the Hoe, clean and modern decor.

Review 67:The staff was great. had a great time here. Only stayed a night but will plan another trip and make this our base traveling around the area. Have already recommended to friends and family.

Review 68:This was the disappointment of our entire 3 1/2 week driving tour in England and Wales because we ended up with a "box room" in the attic up extremely narrow stairs that neeed "climbing". For bathroom think aeroplane toilet dimensions where everything including getting into the room needs to be done sideways. The attic was divided into 5 rooms and the only indication is that this was a "double bed room". There was no mention of the variability of types of rooms when we read previous reviews even though many other places quite openly advertised their varying accessability and size of rooms and varied their prices accordingly. Two nights here was 2 nights too long which was such a disappointment. Great staff but owners need to look to great clarity in their advertising and honestly our room was so small I can't understand how the owners thought to squeeze in such a small extra room into the attic in the first plalce.

Review 69:Food very good this time, only thing can think of is fruit juices tasted a bit cheap - everything else at breakfast was excellent and well above par. Cleanliness is faultless in main areas, in fact all surfaces you are likely to come into contact with are not only clean but highly polished but oddly there are quite a few hard to reach nooks and crannies here and there that haven't been cleaned in a very long while, and there is a touch of shabbiness to the decor - I think this is reasonable to keep it cost effective and can easily be seen as part of the charm. As long as you expect an excellent B&B and not a 5 star hotel experience, you will be happy.

Review 70:A good quality B&B. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Fruit salad very fresh and everything ripe. Cooked breakfast well cooked. Plenty of staff at breakfast so served quickly. Clearly trying hard. Main areas are spotless and highly polished. My particular room (family room) much bigger than expected - with a vaulted ceiling, a full sized kitchen and open plan lounge - essentially a self catering flat within a B&B.

Review 71:Superb b and b . Beautifully presented décor throughout this refurbished period property. Exceptionally helpful, professional and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 72:Naff pillows, and no soundproofing from room above 'Land's End'. I feared the occupants above were about to come through the ceiling!

Review 73:Clean accommodation with great shower, good Wi-fi, good breakfast and helpful staff.

Review 74:The seagulls. I realise the owners have no control over them but the local authority need to get a grip on discouraging these birds who seem to have no idea about sleep. Maybe they should (the authority) consider turning street lights off at night?

Review 75:Friendly staff, pleasant surroundings, good food. Overall a good choice I would go again.

Review 76:Had a good think about this and really can't think of much, kettle steam in our room had damaged the walls slightly, ceiling in the dinning room needed attention, but these are very minor issues.

Review 77:Choice of breakfast was the best I have come across, left feeling full but had eaten healthy Kedgeree so best of both worlds. Staff were very accommodating, professional and friendly. Really enjoyed the art work.

Review 78:I had expected to go be staying at an Hotel and was greeted with a Guest House! It was clean and the room size was good, however very basic and would suit an older market, not business!! I paid £100 and would expect to pay this at a four star hotel with better facilities. I could have booked direct with the guest house and paid far less. I feel that Booking.com has been very naughty with advertising this place!!!

Review 79:The staff and Breakfast were lovely.

Review 80:Nothing - everything was excellent.

Review 81:Very reasonable price. Free parking. Close to harbour. My room was very comfortable and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 82:Only bad point was we stayed downstairs so couldn't make any use of wifi in the room. Apart from that, very happy. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

Review 83:The staff were polite, helpful and attentive. Breakfast was very good. Room was clean, tidy, uncluttered and comfortable.

Review 84:staff was extremely friendly and helpful quality of the breakfast location not far from the Hoe and the centre of the city cleanliness of the room very good value for money

Review 85:We were first to arrived early for breakfast, but did not even have chance of a second cup of tea as we were asked to leave the breakfast table ASAP as they needed the 2 seater table we were at for others as they were full. We were very disappointed at this request.

Review 86:The lady on then reception was extremely helpful at all times.

Review 87:Leaving

Review 88:The location Very clean. Lovely quiet room. Great free breakfast very good food and wonderful selection. Fast WiFi. Comfortable beds and great water pressure. A perfect stay

Review 89:The room was very small for two adults. The decor in the bathroom was in a poor condition with mould on the ceiling, damp smell and tiles loose around shower. Excessively got in room.

Review 90:The staff were friendly and the building is beautiful. Location is excellent.

Review 91:interior décor slightly dated

Review 92:Polite and friendly staff great location - a stone throw away from the Hoe Bacon and sausage sandwich to take away if you're in a hurry - you don't get this service anywhere!

Review 93:We had a twin room called Fowey, it was far too small for a mature couple like ourselves. We booked early enough so I don't know why we didn't get a better room. Beds poor.

Review 94:Clean and tidy, good breakfast.

Review 95:Parking was a bit poor not many spaces. Didn't state that you could use the faculties at the hotel next door on the info page.

Review 96:Rooms laid out very nicely. Food was good.

Review 97:The hotel is right next to the city centre but just distant enough that you don't get the noise. The room was perfect for my needs and was very comfortable. The staff were lovely and helpful. One of the best hotels I've stayed in, highly recommended.

Review 98:Only down side is that my husband found the bed uncomfortable, it was fine for me

Review 99:Great location, big room, friendly staff and freshly cooked breakfast. I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon, very well cooked.

Review 100:Attractions just a few minute walk from the hotel. Reception staff went out of her way to help me with onward travel arrangements. Would definitely stay here again. Lovely

Review 101:No lift, but help offered with bags.

Review 102:Great central location very close to Hoe. Welcoming & helpful staff, great breakfast including fresh fruit salad and interesting choice of cooked options made especially for you.

Review 103:First impression of the hotel doesn't do it justice, the neighbouring property is currently being renovated which distracts from it's frontage. I hope this looks better once completed.

Review 104:Walking distance to the City centre, great base for business, excellently friendly staff, very helpful and cheerful. I didn't have any problems whilst at the hotel but felt had I had an issue the staff would have gone over and above to assist.

Review 105:In an ideal location, with friendly staff and a great breakfast. Every member of staff we met was really friendly and helpful. They made our stay and we will definitely return.

Review 106:Excellent Room/staff/food/ position/price in fact this is one of the best hotels I have ever used. I arrived on the Saturday, I was given lots of information where I could eat that night. After a good nights rest breakfast was very good. Then more information on what to do and where to go for the day. great hotel try it you will be glad you did.The Hotel is only 100 meters from Plymouth Hoe just a five minutes walk away.

Review 107:The staff where very friendly and seemed very knowledgable about the surrounding areas. They went out of there way to be helpful, with great choices for breakfast.

Review 108:Liked everything

Review 109:Liked everything about the hotel. The hoteliers are really friendly who keep their staff happy. Only stayed for one night while waiting for the ferry to Spain but would enjoy a longer stay. The location is ideal. Only a short walk to the Hoe and the Barbican. The building is full of original features but also has an updated feel. Spotlessly clean as well. Oh, and a good hot breakfast was served with attention to detail.

Review 110:Friendly staff, the breakfast was extremely good, something to suit everybody. We had the one bedroom apartment which was lovely and quiet, situated at the back of the hotel we didn't cook , but everything there if you wanted to.

Review 111:Loved everything nothing to dislike.

Review 112:The Swain family were very personable and friendly and professional. Staff are very accommodating and friendly and it really makes the stay special. Fantastic breakfast selections. Cooked breakfast was really tasty.loved the power shower.

Review 113:The location was great easy to walk to anywhere - city centre or the Hoe etc. All the staff were fantastic they were all so helpful and friendly was really lovely and pleasant.

Review 114:The only downside was the creaking floorboards above when guests arrived late at night.

Review 115:ideal location as we were attending the Theatre Royal. Easy short walk to the Hoe, Barbican or the shops. Although having B&B we were in a self-contained compartment, so very useful if staying for a few days. excellent hotel and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Review 116:Breakfast (full English) whilst very nicely presented, wasn't very hot, it was supposed to have been cooked from fresh, so why not piping hot?

Review 117:Very comfortable bed, very friendly and helpful staff

Review 118:I'd asked for decaff tea/coffee in my room & they were supplied. When I was shown to my room, I was offered a jug of fresh milk (which I'd been planning to go out & buy). The breakfast decaff coffee was freshly made in a cafetiere, rather than instant which is usual for decaf drinkers.

Review 119:Our room because they were full, was small and had damp on the wall (the roof is being fixed) mould in the shower room. because of the scaffolding the price should have been reduced. When we commented they gave us a discount. would use this hotel again

Review 120:location, staff lovely building was nice and although cramped there was parking

Review 121:Nothing- it was all wonderful.w

Review 122:A lovely residence with a very warm welcome and service. Rooms and breakfast both great. Very good value and lovely owners and staff.

Review 123:Lovely comfy bed and bed linen which was heavenly. WiFi signal really good strength. Loved the Clipper tea and biscuits - perfect to arrive to after long journey down to Plymouth

Review 124:Great location, parking available, within walking distance of the main attractions in the city, quiet street, pleasant rooms, very fast Wi-Fi, good price. What more do you need when visiting a City, you want a comfy base to return to and recharge the batteries ready for the next day, the Imperial ticks every single box with great ease.
