Reviews for Farnham House Hotel
Review 1:Bedroom heating a bit too hot and noisy plumbing from other rooms but nothing of concern.
Review 2:Friendly staff, spacious and comfortable room, good hotel fascilities. Ideal venue hotel, good value. Only stayed one night.
Review 3:The room could have been done to a higher standard. Lights not working, carpet needed cleaning.
Review 4:Very friendly staff, amazing location and surrounding, great feel for the hotel.
Review 5:Decor is a little dated in places i.e. bathroom, dining room. With a little spruce up, would happily pay double for our stay.
Review 6:Lovely location. Great power shower. Hotel staff generously did not charge for my breakfast of toast and orange juice on last morning of our stay- thank you.
Review 7:Very friendly staff, welcoming and helpful. The room was comfortable and fabulous power shower. Tea and coffee facilities in the room, great breakfast, free wifi.
Review 8:My partner is disabled and we were grateful to be given a room on the ground floor near to reception. Very pleased with car parking very near to the hotel
Review 9:Mattress was old and uncomfortable. Menu very limited and food quite poor. Breakfast cold meats consisted of 2 slices of Ham and a cut tomato with packet cheese portion. Standard had generally gone downhill from our last visit 2 years ago. Shame as was a really good hotel.
Review 10:The location.
Review 11:Pleasant helpful friendly staff. Peaceful location but the hotel is well positioned for Farnham itself and surrounding towns. Enjoyed our 2 night stay very much.
Review 12:I went for breakfast, I took a seat, I was then initially asked for my room number - the service guy, went away and then proceeded to go to other tables, he eventually came back to me and asked if I wanted tea, which I said yes to. Again he went away and brought back my tea, bearing in mind I had now been in the restaurant for 10-15 minutes without being asked what I would like for breakfast - the room wasn't even busy - 5-7 people in there. After about 20 mins I was asked what I would like - I advised poached eggs on toast with some beans. A further 10-15 minutes had past before I received my breakfast. Well, if you could call over done poached eggs on bread without beans a breakfast. At this point, I had to eat as I am a diabetic, so anything would have done. I would have complained, but I did need to leave for work. Two other guests did complain whilst I was there about the time it was taking for them to get their breakfast also. Overall - poor breakfast service including not getting what I asked and paid for. Very Disappointing!
Review 13:Set back location, Nice looking Hotel
Review 14:Poor food choice and quality. Burger one night, bun was burnt both sides and the burger meat was cold. Second night the chicken pie was freezing cold, Faulty towers...
Review 15:The bathroom was a bit of a let down. The toilet was on a side slope and the shower area had a lot of mildew. The bedspread smelled damp or musty too. Trouser press didn't work..At breakfast we were served by someone in a hoody, and my full English was more like half an English. The bacon was hard and mushrooms shrivelled. We were in the breakfast area 15 minutes after it opened so I can't imagine how they managed that. Come on Farnham House. They are little details and easily remedied..
Review 16:The house itself is beautiful. The room was big enough and clean and the staff were very friendly.
Review 17:traditional english manor that dearly needs renovation. The personel was trying to be helpful, but "friendly" is a different attitude.
Review 18:very nice environement in a park embedded in a beautiful landscape. Outer appearance of the house promisses a stylish place
Review 19:Shower curtain needs replacing. No bath. Only two power sockets in the room. Isolated with no restaurants nearby. We checked-in just before 9pm. First receptionist told us the restaurant stopped taking orders at 9pm and we were too late. Luckily, second receptionist said we could be served if we ordered straight away.
Review 20:Close to where we needed to be. Reasonable last minute booking price. Restaurant food was good.
Review 21:Menu choice was like a service station chips and chicken or burger or ham and garlic bread Poor poor choice
Review 22:Staff www few and far between but helpful
Review 23:The property is old and needs a make over,it tries to be grand which it is not. On the Wednesday evening only lite bites on menu and some of those not available. When checking out was charged for breakfast when it had already been paid on Booking.com.
Review 24:Not a lot
Review 25:TV out of date on viewing poor reception on various channels and broke down completely I was move to another room rather than the problem being fixed
Review 26:the fact that i had to sleep in my car as after 3am when i returned to the hotel the front door was locked and nobody answered the door when i was ringing the bell. finally got in after 7am asked for a refund and a rude "manager" said that she had to speak to her staff first!!
Review 27:The shower was not clean everything was old specially the iron and it was burnt under neath which ruined my husbands shirt also the board was very flimsy
Review 28:Thought rooms where very dated and our carpet was awfully stained and marked. To get a drink at the bar you had to go to the reception to ask...... guess it wasn't that busy on the night we stayed.
Review 29:Good position with friendly staff. amazing view from our room and if you wanted peace and quiet you could find that here.
Review 30:Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Room was cosy, but in a good way. Gardens were lovely. It's a little rough around the edges in areas but it's an old building so to be expected.
Review 31:Location far away from bus or trains. Hotel cold and dark. A little dated need of TLC
Review 32:The grounds very attractive country side. Staff good attitude and helpful. Okay value
Review 33:Very limited dinner menu. Decor a bit dated. Room appeared not to have been hoovered.
Review 34:Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely quiet location. Great walk through the country into town. Clean bathroom.
Review 35:I booked a double room and we were given a twin. We complained.....they moved the beds together with double bedding but no mattress topper so had the gap between the two mattresses. Complained again and got a smaller double room with shower only/no bath. All this time we were left waiting on the landing - not offered any refreshments. No real apology. At breakfast.....no staff were present to check us in so we just sat down after other guests suggested we did. All self service including tea/coffee. No eggs available or offered or no signage to inform us. Overheard waitress offering eggs to other guests so we asked.....they arrived when we had eaten nearly all our breakfast. Only cold, white toast available.staff appeared untrained or skilled. The bar was so quiet....no music or radio that everyone seemed to be whispering awkwardly.
Review 36:The building itself was characterful
Review 37:Price of the breakfast. One price whether you wanted small continental or cereal or full English the price was the same.
Review 38:Staff very friendly and helpful and hotel was close to relatives at Alton.
Review 39:The bed was awful! Massive hole/ dip in middle of mattress. Staff did not react quickly to resolve issue and it took multiple conversations to sort- was told that this was their best room...bridal suite and no one else had reported an issue??? However it was so obvious the cleaning staff would have been unable to miss it when making up bed! Breakfast was mediocre and staff slow to clear up tables etc so looked dirty. Crumbs etc on table we were shown to. Buffet food was cold on second day and continental selection very limited. Free wifi in public area limited to 24 hours.
Review 40:The appearance of the hotel and decor was lovely. Staff were friendly. Good views. En suite in room was excellent including jacuzzi bath.
Review 41:At breakfast, we were told there was a technical error, but found out the chef was late for work. So breakfast was not of good standard, no service. The did a few things as buffet. Definitely not as described in their menu. I complained but nothing could be done. Also when I found the (badly dressed) waitress who looked like she slept in her clothes, I ordered brown toast got white toast. Bowl of fruit was not fresh. Such a bad experience.
Review 42:Small cramped rooms Small supposedly double bed Tiny bathroom with very little (2) toiletries
Review 43:Nothing exceptional springs to mind about this very average hotel
Review 44:En-suite was dirty, mould on ceiling & black mould in corners of show; shower hose thick with mould. No extractor fan in bathroom. Lighting very poor in bedroom, low wattage bulbs, difficult to read newspaper. Meal: wine glass dirty & returned, glass of wine undrinkable so ordered bottle.
Review 45:Room was a decent size. Cheese & biscuits good.
Review 46:The hotel is lovely but the rooms like ours could do with a bit of a refurbishment as the decor was a bit tired. A lick of paint and a new shower curtain in our bathroom would have made quite a big difference.
Review 47:The house has a lot of character and the grounds are lovely. The staff were very pleasant.
Review 48:Phone in room didn't work! Despite saying 24 hour sandwich service available there was no food available at midnight!
Review 49:Location, grounds and setting! Beautiful historical building! Lovely country home
Review 50:Very tired sad looking decor inside & not very good value for money. There was no wifi in the room we were told it was going to be installed. Pillows were past their sell by date and again we were told they were on order but that was too late for our stay. Room very small, decor in shower cubicle was like being in a 1950 Formica era. No shower cap provided, told it was a directive from HO not to supply anymore.
Review 51:The surroundings & the character building.
Review 52:can only get wifi in public areas, luckily the bar wasnt busy.
Review 53:Nice hotel, full of character, comfortable room, mine with a balcony. good bathroom and radiator was on in this room which made it very cosy. Food was very tasty, well prepared and presented. the dining room however was somewhat bland. Breakfast was good but nothing special.
Review 54:Room was a little noisy with kitchen/car park activity Communal areas, especially dining room, would benefit from a more stylish but simple look would try and keep cars off very front of hotel and put tables /chairs there
Review 55:Although the room was small the bed was comfy and it had everything Loved the hotel building/arts and crafts and the setting.
Review 56:The hotel were worried re food requests even though we gave advance warning of the party numbers. Also, the boiler broke down on the morning of our wedding so none of the c.40 guests had any hot water on the day.
Review 57:We were a wedding party also celebrating my fiancée ' s Birthday and the hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating to our large party on both counts. Thank you!!
Review 58:Nice quiet surroundings. Peaceful. Great for reading a book out on the lawn with a cool drink on a Summer's evening. Fell in love with this place. Will definitely go back. Rooms spacious and comfortable.
Review 59:We had to go look for bar staff. no breakfast included in the £95 room cost .curtain was hanging of the rail, TV didn't work properly, no BBC channels, other channels kept freezing. At dinner although there was a side plate and knife, no bread roll was offered. We were given a wine glass for our water. in the grounds the pond was almost dry and smelly, you could see the septic tank amongst thr trees and was very smelly. The water feature was also dry
Review 60:Bed and pillow were so comfortable shower was very powerful lots of hot water, building was wonderful set in nice grounds
Review 61:Asking to pay bill on arrival. Why? Already guaranteed payment as card used to reserve. This not a good welcome. Just needs more staff to prepare rooms better. Our rooms dusty and soulless. Main function room at entrance in chaos and not used to its full potential. Just a general air of desperation. Both meals in room poorly laid out. Tables in rows again why as could be so much nicer with no cost involved. Both meals very average.Breakfast area already prepared at dinner. Large adverts everywhere making place look cheap which it isn't. Lovely place but management appear to have lost their way,it's 2015 not 1970.
Review 62:Staff though minimal were polite and attentive. We requested to change rooms and this delt with professionally.
Review 63:Breakfast was a little basic although the hot selection was fine and there was a wedding party from evening before so staff were busy Also cannot understand why breakfast is not included in price
Review 64:Nice location with helpful staff and very quiet even with wedding party
Review 65:Shaby and dated decor, creaky floors, wifi in bar area was unreliable, glasses for juice at breakfast were dirty and had to staff hard to find for help during breakfast.
Review 66:the garden was quite nice, and I was given a room upgrade when complained about the stale smell in the room, and I had only asked for air freshener, so that was nice. Bed was fine, and French toast with berries for breakfast was nice.
Review 67:we did not like having only one mug in the bedroom and that the window stay was missing which made it difficult to keep open.
Review 68:We liked the location being off the main road it gave serinity and quiet. The grounds were kept to a high standard and the hotel was very grand externally. We would reserve another booking if we visit again and would recomend your hotel to others.
Review 69:On entering room, i found a pair of womens knickers on the chair. Room was very dark and tv did not work. Given all sorts of excuses ie previous occupants didnt get back til late....not good enough. Definite first impressions were bad. Moved to another room and was told its much less noisy here. Erm why not give us this one when we arrived then?
Review 70:Location
Review 71:Only complaint is that the bed wasn't big enough so had a bad sleep, the quilt and pillow could have been better. No complaints about cleanliness.
Review 72:The staff and surrounding was exceptional beautiful gardens. I found out on returning home I had left a diamond bracelet in my room, phoned the hotel and they are going to post it to me. Shower was fabulous.
Review 73:The bacon and sausages were spoilt. Need to report this to the Public health department. Slept in my jacket as the room was freezing, no hot water to wash our hands, my toddler slept in 2 jackets. Nightmare experience, would not recommend this hotel to an enemy.
Review 74:Nothing whatsoever.
Review 75:Room too hot during night, room next to double door in corridor which slammed very noisily as people used it and woke me up. Should say when booking that restaurant isn't a proper one but Farnham has lots of eating places.
Review 76:Friendly staff, good breakfast.
Review 77:Expensive food and drink. Poor breakfast. I asked for only bacon and scrambled egg with, what they described as, "roasted" tomatoes. The tomatoes were barely warm; the bacon was under-cooked and the eggs were a small portion.
Review 78:Great bed. Pleasant gardens. Easy parking (secure for motorbikes)
Review 79:The general. Theme seemed to be I will ask someone :-\
Review 80:Lovely gardens, lovely staff but young and in my opinion inexperienced. We asked for afternoon tea, after checking with chef , were told not possible, but we could have a scone with jam and cream and sandwich menu was out ?!!!!! We had it elsewhere.
Review 81:see above. Shower mouldy, bits falling off in bathroom, toilet wobbly, blanket absolitely filthy, cold in the evening and couldnt turn heat on, tea pot and milk jug dirty at breakfast. Hotel stank of salmon. Shabby!
Review 82:Staff were mostly friendly & helpful (eg brought milk to room and helped me with traon enquiry)but when I asked for heating nothing happened and when I complained about filthy shower and blanket got half hearted spology. Location was beautiful & rooms decent size.
Review 83:The hotel is two miles off the Pligrims' Way, high up over the M31, adding four miles to the Alton- Farnham stretch. No vegetarian chouce on the dinner menu. Free WiFi only on the ground floor. Ten pounds for it in room.
Review 84:Staff were pleasant.
Review 85:WiFi in room very expensive, not really good enough for today's business traveller. A bit tired in places, but relatively quiet and nice garden. Staff did their best to help but now in the hands of a liquidator, so not sure of their future and it showed.
Review 86:Gardens
Review 87:On arrival we were given our key but upon entering the room the cleaners were in there although this was an hour and a half past the 2pm check in time. The shower was very temperamental and hard to get the right temperature. Breakfast was poor, the hot food was lukewarm and we had to ask for plates which had run out as well as tomato sauce which wasn't already put out. The tea also had run out and was very poor. If I ever stayed here again I would probably give breakfast a miss.
Review 88:Room was clean and spacious. Hotel grounds are lovely and the Hotel really could be something special with a bit of investment. We stayed there for a friends wedding in Farnham so the location was good for us.
Review 89:The manager could do with a little coaching on bringing some gravitas, rather than embarrassing a guest who simply wanted to order wine for the table
Review 90:Grounds and surrounds
Review 91:My only negative was that turning into the hotel driveway was tricky. This may seem very minor and its not really their fault but it was a right hand turn, off a national limit dual carriageway (A31) with a VERY small run-off area. Having a car driving up behind you at 70mph in the "outside lane" while you're slowing down to stop from that speed into a central reservation only a couple of cars lengths long was not particularly fun. If they could sort out that entrance by extending the central reservation it would be 10/10 from me!
Review 92:I was attending a wedding at a nearby venue and this served its purpose very well. It wasn't the cheapest but was well located for my needs. Very helpful and friendly staff and 24hr reception.
Review 93:Room was basic but good value. Glasses and stuff at breakfast all dusty and bar closed early for dinner so had to travel an hour to eat . Shower was broken and staff where a mixed bag of excellent and rubbish .
Review 94:Location and period features where lovley
Review 95:Bit old fashioned but that's in keeping with the building anyway.
Review 96:Quiet, tucked up a long driveway and nice view from window. Staff helpful. Everything I needed.
Review 97:Not really criticisms but something the owners need to consider just from a financial point of view. I like being warm but the heating was over powering and set far too high, couldn't turn radiator down , heating was on ALL night and so had to sleep with windows open! Seems such a waste. Food - evening meal only, ok but 'masses' too much.
Review 98:Close to Farnham, nice grounds, interior cosy (if a little tired in places). Staff very helpful.
Review 99:The shower was extremely powerful (room 9) it would not stay in the holder and we discovered this the hard way.
Review 100:The room was good value for money. We loved the balcony! The hotel was beautiful and the staff friendly.
Review 101:The only thing I could fault was the mattress on the bed dipped in the middle so found ourselves falling into the middle
Review 102:I loved the peace and quiet the staff were amazing and helpful. And the food was amazing. I am even thinking about renewing our wedding vows here .
Review 103:Luke warm water for the whole stay they did give a refund and were very sincere about it.
Review 104:The staff are lovely , the room was warm and comfortable. This is an charming, eccentric, character packed hotel if you want chain hotel facilities and amenities look elsewhere.
Review 105:The room was plan very old the mattress on the bed was a nightmare thesprings were digging in my back and very soft as the bed was very old nosleep at all ,,the breakfast I had to send back awful there'snothing else to say apart from being in pain now from the bed my back isin pain and now off work for two days ,,not happy at all I would ofrefused to pay but they took payment as soon as I got in the doir if thehotel ,, never have I paid for a hotel as soon as I get there alwaysbefore u leave after your stay,,, this trip has cost me money being offwork now ,,,
Review 106:needed more beans on my poached egg, beans on toast.
Review 107:Despite everything independent hotels like this have had thrown at them in recent years, such as Travelodges, Premier Inns etc., these guys are hanging in there. It's a bit tired but overall I liked the place and all of the staff seemed positive and willing to be helpful.
Review 108:We had booked a superior room for which we paid but because my husband has difficulty with stairs we couldn't access it as there is no lift. A fact we were unaware of. We were shown into a basic downstairs room. We were the only other guests apart from a wedding party. Because our room was downstairs we were kept awake by the revellers celebrating their friends/family marriage.
Review 109:The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast.
Review 110:There was no Sky not necessary in the rooms but at least in one hall or bar. The main hall smelt stale.
Review 111:The warmth of the accommodation and staff, very helpful. Full English breakfast was well made and staff were relaxed with guests
Review 112:Steak and chicken was off menu which didn't leave much. Bedside light not working in room 10. Very hot and stuffy in room and heat didn't seem too controllable.
Review 113:Check in/out easy; room (upgraded to double) comfortable and well appointed.
Review 114:Overall it's tired, a bit bleak and in need of some serious investment; lighting, as so often in hotels, is dreadful.
Review 115:Lovely garden; balcony with great view; pleasant and helpful staff; comfortable bed.
Review 116:the only downside was we were woken up at 6.22 by a loud noise sounding like someone drilling
Review 117:We had a superior room was quiet and comfortable everything you need lovely setting staff friendly and helpful
Review 118:Needs a bit of investment. Shower worked but difficult to get correct temperature + not much flow. Very restricted selection at bar. A little expensive for the offer.
Review 119:Fantastic building, setting and character. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room. Have stayed before and would stay again.
Review 120:Our room was in the roof space and we had to watch our heads continually! However the room was comfortable & away from the noise of the wedding below which made up for it. We would have liked to have had more choice at the evening meal.
Review 121:The Staff were pleasant and very helpful. The location was lovely - it was just a shame that it was raining which preventing exploration of the grounds. The Manager made sure I was catered for being gluten and dairy free.
Review 122:The room was so hot it was very hard to sleep, there's no air con at all, and this was in November. I'd hate to think what it's like in the summer!
Review 123:I found the remains of a flying insect under my fried egg whilst eating my breakfast. Waitress didn't respond in any way when it was highlighted.
Review 124:The room was very nice and the bar staff were very sociable
Review 125:quite a modern looking bathroom considering the layout of the much older period room.
Review 126:A secluded place with an appropriate number of guests maintaining the peacefulness of the hotel and its surroundings
Review 127:4.00am, scratching sound coming from above ceiling room 5, moved across room and continued for 15 mins, small 4 legged friends I'd say! Also, wi-fi should be free everywhere in hotels nowadays especially when paying these hotel rates!
Review 128:Breakfast was good
Review 129:The menu listed on the website was completely different from the 'pub' menu in the restaurant, which looked dated and was just a white piece of paper. We were also made to feel guilty by one member of staff for eating our both nights. I have to say I may have chosen another hotel if the menu was listed correctly. There was a thick layer of dust by the bathroom door. We'd paid for a superior room and the bed wasn't massively comfortable, nor were the pillows. There was a ladies top in one of the drawers - it was not ours.
Review 130:The female owner was very helpful and understanding about. We had lovely views from the rooms balcony The hotel was nice inside
Review 131:It was a very noisy room a boiler beside was extreamly noisy even though I was tired from traveling I did not sleep a wink there was lipstick on the bathroom walls and on floors therfore it had not been cleaned doors of cupboards were falling off
Review 132:Breakfast ok staff helpful
Review 133:There was a wedding at the hotel when we stayed and we could not have a hot meal as the kitchen was busy with the wedding. Sunday morning breakfast was only served until 9.30 am
Review 134:Staff were very welcoming, breakfast was good, hotel was toasty warm.
Review 135:The room was very basic, and decorative wise it looked rather tired. No tissues in room (small thing, but for the price we paid, I'd expect them). Breakfast was very disorganised. Waiting more than 5 minutes for a clean plate, and then longer for food.
Review 136:Plenty of parking space. Close proximity to our wedding venue. Nice exterior to buildings, and decent sized grounds.
Review 137:The barman drove me crazy with incessant chat and you had no beer worth drinking
Review 138:The check-in staff were friendly and efficient. breakfast was brilliant
The Fine Print
All bedrooms are now non-smoking.
