Reviews for The Relish
Review 1:I liked the bathroom with a nice bath tub very much. It was wonderful to be offered a complimentary glass of wine or other beverage on the ground floor. Also free bottle of water was very appreciated.
Review 2:No bad experiences.
Review 3:The modern look as soon as you walk into the building ... Many places very old fashioned around Folkestone. The nice touches of proper coffee machine make your own coffee and help yourself yo home made cake as well as wine.
Review 4:not a thing!
Review 5:amazing, greeted with complimentary glass of wine and a friendly smile! room was beautiful. we was at a wedding, we just wish we could have spent more time there!
Review 6:Nothing.
Review 7:Spacious, modern rooms, had a great nights sleep, in the comfy bed. The glass of wine and cake upon arrival was a very nice touch. The breakfast was plentiful and spot on - lots of choice. Superb location, ideal for Leas Cliff Hall, the harbour, bars and restaurants. To top it off, incredibly friendly staff. We would stay here again.
Review 8:Lovely room on the top level, friendly staff. Loved the little help yourself kitchen with cake, tea, coffee, beer & wine. Sat in the sitting room to read while it rained one afternoon, very peaceful
Review 9:The Relish is really well thought through, the facilities are excellent - nice touches like homemade cake and drinks available, and the beds are comfortable.
Review 10:The TV didn't work in our room, and our normal double bed felt very small, most hotel beds are much bigger.
Review 11:The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous breakfast and coffee and cake to help yourself too.
Review 12:This might not be the best choice if one were severely disabled as, in the nature of things, the building is not open to the possibility of a lift.
Review 13:What's not to like? It's always heartwarming to see a vintage building restored to its former glory, and this beautiful Victorian townhouse has been lovingly crafted into a sophisticated boutique hotel. Squeaky clean, and a 'foodies' delight. Home baked bread and complimentary cakes hit the sweet spot; plus a coffee machine to deliver ad libitum. Delightful patio garden and access to the private communal gardens of the square. Exquisite bed and bedding.
Review 14:No bad experience at all. Only downside in my opinion is that because of its old building structure it had no lifts. Please take note when booking.
Review 15:We were so nearby harbour area and and same time could walk into town centre. Highly recommended
Review 16:Very noisy outside, mattress is so rock solid no way you can have a good night sleep.
Review 17:As we only used it for 1 overnight stay it was nice to be close by the tunnel and close by lots of nice restaurants. Hotel room and bathroom although very tiny was clean.
Review 18:The staff are really lovely. Extremely clean. Complementary tea, coffee, cake, wine, bear on arrival. Good choice of breakfast. Will come back again next year.
Review 19:The area outside the hotel when we first arrived was a little disappointing as there was a lot of renovating been done at the neighbouring buildings!
Review 20:The staff were very friendly and the food and hotel were fabulous inside! There was water, beer, house wine, tea & coffee and beautiful cakes at all times in the lobby area.
Review 21:Lovely place. Very clean. Very stylish. Particularly liked the free coffee, wine and cake. Great touch. Big room, great view. Nice outdoor space. Very close to the seafront in a stylish part of town. A little expensive but worth it. Only down side is the lack of a lift... It's a LONG way up the stairs to the top.
Review 22:I d started here before when It was a 5 star- standard hone done alot! New own eres but I d booked still thinking was The same. Cost more too- needs to change its Ratzinger which is on net And on display. Pronto staying again as I had Been used to 5 star service... Not there now in Many aspectos. Disappointed
Review 23:Staff were fríe doy And helpful
Review 24:Room was on 6th floor and was very small although suited me as I only slept there. Would not have liked the room should I have been on holiday with a lot of clothes etc.
Review 25:Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, coffee and tea 24 hrs and with cake!
Review 26:Shame there is no lift
Review 27:Nice surprise to find a courtesy kitchen with tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine and home made cake. Nice touch after a long journey.
Review 28:There is no elevator so we had to bring our luggage up the stairs to the second floor (they would have helped us, of course!). It was no concern to us, but it might be to others.
Review 29:This is a beautiful old home that has been repurposed as a hotel. It has access to a park behind the hotel with a patio to enjoy your coffee in the morning and a cocktail in the afternoon. The breakfast is hot or cold and a good variety. The rooms were comfortable and some have views of the park. You are also very close to the beach and some nice restaurants. I would reccomend this hotel and we will be back again.
Review 30:Nothing to dislike but I suppose for some the stairs may be a problem if your bedroom is at the top of the building as ours was. For us it was fine but there are a lot of stairs to climb!
Review 31:Lovely, friendly staff. Help yourself free homemade cakes with tea and coffee. Complimentary glass of wine or beer which we enjoyed in the garden on the terrace. Clean and modern bathroom.
Review 32:The hot drinks cups handles are hard to hold.
Review 33:Probably; the best independent small hotel in Folkestone. Beds were very comfortable, rooms are well equipped and stylish. Great location with views into a private park.
Review 34:Warm welcome, quaint facilities.... huge room - spotless and very comfortable. The complimentary cake, tea, coffee, water, wine and beer is a lovely touch.
Review 35:The breakfast and the friendliness stood out The central location made all activities so convenient. The large garden made for peaceful gentle exercise.
Review 36:The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The hotel is impeccably clean and there are a number of lovely complimentary items (tea, coffee, cake, water and wine!). The guest lounge and breakfast room overlook the garden and is a lovely spot to relax (& enjoy the tea & cake!). The full english breakfast is fantastic and was included in my booking, they even offer a takeaway for early departures. The location is a comfortable walk into main street or the train station and just a short walk to the Leas beach. I had a wonderful weekend and will definitely recommend it and will revisit!
Review 37:No decaf coffee sachets in room. No bath in 'chimney' room, not an issue just would have been nice to have had a bath.
Review 38:Lovely and spacious room with tasteful decor.
Review 39:Nothing at all - all good. Only drawback was that there is no lift and for the elderly there are a lot of stairs.
Review 40:The position was excellent, the place was spotless and the staff, friendly and extremely helpful. The Relish had free tea/coffee, wine, beer or soft drink for all who stay there and also freshly made cake - yum. Breakfast was excellent - home cooking.
Review 41:There was nothing that I didn't like. I couldn't get the wifi to work in my room but then I wasn't there to surf the Internet. Not that it was an issue for us, there is no car park at the hotel but you can park easily in the roads surrounding the hotel without a problem.
Review 42:What an amazing hotel. On arrival the receptionist greeted my girlfriend and I with a warm welcome. Booking in was stress free and we were given a tour of the communal areas of the hotel. The free homemade cake and drinks was also a really nice touch, along with the glass of wine and bottle of beer when we arrived. We stayed in the Ochre room, which was a large room with a dresser, sofa and comfortable bed in. The enquire bathroom consisted of a large bath and a separate shower and WC. The room was finished to a very high standard with all the normal things you expect. Breakfast consists of tea and coffee, fruit juices, cereal, yogurts and a full English if you want. I understand that you can choose pretty much anything and the staff will make it for you. The hotel doesn't have a manned reception 24 hours but you do get a front door key and are told to come and go as you please. It felt really homely. The staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. They even arranged for a taxi to collect my girlfriend and I to take us to Blooms @1/4. Which you have to try. The food there was out of this world. It's about 4 minutes taxi ride or 20 minutes walk from the hotel. My girlfriend and I walked back, which was quite romantic. All in all, a great hotel, great service and hospitality. I would thoroughly recommend it and we will definitely be staying again.
Review 43:The zipped together mattresses. The wi fi is quite slow. Parking was quite difficult and that was in January, I imagine it will be very difficult in summer. Young enough to get up the 3 flights of stairs but it could be a problem for more elderly, not aware of a lift.
Review 44:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The facilities are very good value for money. The complimentary drinks and cake were very much appreciated. Good breakfast.
Review 45:wrong address on the site breakfast only starts at 8.30 Noise of upper room Bathroom ventilator doesn't switch off Bathroom tiling is dirty In the morning all was very cold also bathroom !!
Review 46:Staff was friendly
Review 47:Shame they don't have a small library of DVDs. the full breakfast lacked something: I think it was just TOO healthy. Crispier bacon, proper (Heinz!) beaked beans please? But overall, really, I had a fantastic stay and if I had to go to Folkestone again, I would stay here.
Review 48:Very welcoming staff. Great modern feel and design. Open, spacious room. Beautiful bathroom and comfy bed. Love the idea of helping yourself to a free glass of wine and some cakes!
Review 49:The single room was very small
Review 50:Location, the double room was lovely with great views. Excellent food with gorgeous breakfast. Yummy cakes for afternoon tea. Really really helpful staff will most definitely stay again
Review 51:The room was nice, saying we had the most expensive room and it was 5 star I have stopped in better for cheaper, ie Jacuzzi bath and multi jet showers plus mini bar and trouser press.
Review 52:You could help yourself to complementary drinks and snacks in the lobby area, also the staff was friendly and arranged our restaurant reservation.
Review 53:Oh the stairs bit much if you getting in to your antique years and carrying a bit of timber
Review 54:The staff were lovely nice breakfast glass or beer or assorted tea or Very pleasant staff good breakfast glass of wine beer coffee or variety of teas on the house a nice touch
Review 55:The staff went to great lengths to make us feel cared for, upgrading our room, offering tea and cakes, finding an open restaurant, etc. The overall feel of our stay was one of comfort and care.
Review 56:Everything really have been before so that says a lot the fact we came back! Enjoy the homemade cake and bread. Neat modern clean rooms. Great location. Staff couldn't be more polite or helpful.
Review 57:Very small thing but better complimentary bathroom products would be good!
Review 58:Coffee, tea, water available all day. Complimentary wine/beer each day Delicious breakfast
Review 59:The prospect of a nightcap from hospitality area dashed by empty fridge ! but this may have been because other guests had been over-generous - but would have been nice for it to be kept replenished ! And a small suggestion = would have been lovely to have weekend newspapers in drawing room... Both minor points . Our stay was lovely.
Review 60:Lovely staff, warm welcome, good hospitality area ( tea, coffee, cake, beetr, wine), comfortable drawing room. Good mattresses and bedding
Review 61:The relish is one of the most loveliest hotels that I will always stay in. No complaints. It's the only hotel in folkestone that I feel safe and I'm garunteed a wonderful nights sleep. Rooms are beautiful, staff are very welcoming and breakfast is a bonus!! I recommend this place to anyone! Nice quiet location, tucked away nicely. What more do you want! :-)
Review 62:The stairs
Review 63:The complimentary wine, beer, tea coffe and homemade cakes Homemade bread at breakfast The cooked breakfast The room The tour and friendly welcome Sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine
Review 64:Would like to see Soya Milk available at breakfast. The non salted butter wasn't to our liking.
Review 65:The size of the room/bathroom. Drinks and service. View. Thank you for booking taxi.
Review 66:The best hotel in Folkestone I have visited so far! Excellent place, excellent staff with outstanding service attitude. Bathroom facilities were superb and the location near the Leas just excellent.
Review 67:Limited on street parking ?
Review 68:Helpful friendly and informative staff, clean and comfortable B&Bwith well presented rooms, very close to Folkestone harbour and beacheswith easy access to Eurotunnel, highly recommended. Limited on streetparking may be an issue for some but wasn't for us.
Review 69:Our 'compact' double was attractive but a very tight fit. However this was the lowest tariff and next time I would pay more for a larger room.
Review 70:Quiet location. Delightful helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Guest kitchen with complimentary homemade cake, teas and coffees of all kinds.
Review 71:We stayed at the relish with our one year old son visiting family for three days. Wonderful staff and a beautiful room which was spotless. The breakfast was always perfectly cooked and the complimentary wine, beer & cake went down a treat. We have already made a booking to go back in Dec!
Review 72:People smoking outside
Review 73:Courteous helpful welcome, large room with good aspect onto garden. Very convenient for Tunnel, excellent breakfast, free WI Fi complimentary glass of wine, good advice re local restaurants.
Review 74:Breakfast was too early for those of us wanting to relax - up till 9 on weekdays and 10 at weekends. Just another half hour later would have been good. Our room was a bit pricey for what we had - no chest of drawers was a problem as we stayed for four nights. Some of the lamps were a bit temperamental - for the price they really should work perfectly. We stayed at the Sofitel at Gatwick for two-thirds of the price. The hotel is probably ready for an internal lick of paint and spring clean - just things like dust at the top of the tiles in the bathroom. Not a major issue but could be easily rectified. Our shower was a somewhat slippery until we realised the bath at was meant for it - unusual to have to use one in a modern shower cubicle. Though the bed was great the pillows could have been better but not a major issue. The garden furniture was very basic and let's the place down. Needs replacing with more comfortable and better looking stuff.
Review 75:The staff were great, very helpful and efficient. Our room was lovely with a great view over the beautiful gardens. Really good location near to amenities and some nice places to eat especially Copper and Spices (fantastic food). There was free coffee, wine, beer and bottled water. Really nice offer. And the homemade cakes on offer free we're delicious. Really nice touch. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The breakfast on offer was very nice. The cooked breakfast was good and you're able to mix and match the things you like - the poached eggs were particularly excellent. The gardens at the back of the hotel are beautiful and great for a pre or post breakfast stroll. The bed was really comfortable and gave us a good night's sleep. Free wifi was good - it's always difficult to have the fastest connections in hotels but it was good.
Review 76:Very little that wasn't good. Seagulls a bit noisy! but that was a very small price to pay.
Review 77:Lovely staff. The room was very comfortable. We had wine, tea, coffee and cake available in the kitchen, which was a very nice extra. The location was very central.
Review 78:Hotel's location is let down by neighbouring properties with many looking run down. Not their fault but not the nicest location for a stopover. This is the only negative comment.
Review 79:Staff very helpful and friendly Rooms compact but very comfortable with all mod cons you'd want. Great selection of complimentary drinks and snacks. Excellent breakfast in nice surroundings.
Review 80:The noisy seagulls
Review 81:Excellent relaxed stay.. With very friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you.. The complentry drinks and cake an added bonus.... Especially the wine
Review 82:Sash windows that wouldn't stay open - it was very hot! Last serving of breakfast at 9.00am - far too early in this day and age, even if you are working!
Review 83:Coffee machine available all day, complimentary drink & cake in the evening - very civilised!
Review 84:Could hear the floor creek as the upstairs neighbours came in after their night out, wasn't too bad but it woke me up.
Review 85:Very comfortable bed, and complimentary wine, beer and bottled water.
Review 86:Decor is on the turn. 'Box' room walls are showing signs of damp and bathroom floor is 'bubbling'.
Review 87:Atmosphere and service are good. Complimentary drink and cake was a first. Rooms a clean and well provided for.
Review 88:Noisy seagulls outside! Our room was on the top floor, which had about 5 sets of stairs to get to it. No Lift and no AC in a 5 stars Hotel !!!
Review 89:The friendliness of the staff, the location and the hospitality- cake, wine and tea-coffee.
Review 90:Very pretty hotel with lovely rooms. We wish we had arrived earlier so we could take advantage of the beautiful outside area. Complimentary drinks and cake were a very thoughtful idea and the breakfast was well presented with a good selection and tasted great. What really made the hotel however was Yvonna! she is absolutely lovely, so charming and professional, a real asset :)

Review 93:I lost count of the times I drove round the block trying to find somewhere to park. Eventually had to settle for a space some distance away so it was a long haul there and back with the bags. On reflection I thought it was a tad expensive for what was offered.
