Reviews for BEST WESTERN PLUS Philipburn Country House Hotel

Review 1:Absolutely no complaints at all

Review 2:the very friendly welcome after a slightly fraught end of journey, an amazing well equiped room. Excellent food. The hotel was able to change our booking at short notice which enabled us to spend more time with our son and his wife

Review 3:The only negative we had was that the shower wasn't as powerful as we would have liked. Also the heated towel rail didn't work so found the bathroom very cold but just got round this by leaving door open as the bedroom was lovely and warm

Review 4:Spotlessly clean hotel and the staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing-the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were especially delicious!

Review 5:We would have preferred a separate shower cubicle for ease of use. The bath did get slippery when you were showering. Some modernisation of the bathroom was needed.

Review 6:The hotel is in a quiet location. Our room was large and comfortable. There was a good choice of food at breakfast.

Review 7:Room needs a wee bit of updating. had a split level room, would have liked a tv on the bedroom floor. Country house hotel, does what it says on the tin.

Review 8:Staff very helpful and friendly, nice little get away hotel for a quiet break. If your wanting a nice lazy, quiet time, it's the right place

Review 9:I'm surprised that for a 4 star hotel many of the standard rooms only have showers not baths. I was told that to guarantee a bath it is necessary to book a deluxe room although they will try to cater for requests in advance for standard rooms.

Review 10:Lovely hotel. Great location. Very well presented.

Review 11:We arrived back to the hotel just after 10 intending to have a drink in the bar but it had closed at 10pm The brochure stated 11 Bathroom door wouldn't close

Review 12:The breakfast was excellent Served by lovely staff

Review 13:The only fault we found was no milk in our room, everything else was fantastic.

Review 14:Lovely room, beautiful setting for the wedding we were attending and very efficient, friendly staff.

Review 15:Nothing really, the car park is lethal for motorcyclists like me, apart from that, all very good.

Review 16:Room was excellent, food at dinner and breakfast was not fussy but very nicely done. Much of the hotel seems quite newly refurbished. I will stay here again.

Review 17:The mattresses are due for replacement, and the duvets were obviously old, quite heavy and rug-like - it was not a restful night

Review 18:Lovely food in the restaurant, and very pleasant, welcoming staff. The hotel had a warm and homely atmosphere

Review 19:The only thing I can complain about was the noise of neighbours coming in drunk and waking us up but this is out of the hotels control. It would've really topped it off to have a little complimentary mini-bar in the room with some drinks and snacks.

Review 20:Amazing jacuzzi bath, comfortable bed, food really good, good TV.

Review 21:Although it has only two floors there is no lift and the stairs are a bit of a climb.

Review 22:The staff were very helpful and it is in a very beautiful location. There is a bus stop nearby if you haven't got a car

Review 23:Liked the service from all staff but a particular commendation must go to the young catering student who was our waitress for lunch on arrival, dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning !! Excellent food

Review 24:Very comfortable and spacious room with plenty facilities. Hotel appeared very well maintained. The staff were friendly, attentive, efficient and low-key.

Review 25:I can't say anything negative here.

Review 26:Warm and friendly staff. Very clean and everything you need within this hotel. The breakfast was second to none good choice of food and good quality ingredients. Would definitely stay agin highly recommend.

Review 27:I was not happy with the room as the bed was upstairs (Mezanie) but toilet and TV downstairs. Would have preferred a room all on one level .

Review 28:The hotel was very nice in an old fashioned way very comfortable. Food was excellent

Review 29:the lodge we stayed in was loely but the wardrobe smellt of damp. after one night my clothes were smelling of this.

Review 30:The staff and owners were fanastic as was the food. really good.

Review 31:The place was soulless. Managers were polite and efficient but had no personal touch. Staff were well meaning but untrained eg cooked breakfasts arrived at the table before guests had finished their fruit or cereal.

Review 32:Building and gardens were in good condition and being improved.

Review 33:Limited choice at Breakfast.

Review 34:Good Hotel with a very reasonably priced restaurant. Very comfortable and well appointed room. Breakfast ok but nothing special with a limited choice of non cooked items. Would still not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Review 35:Lovely warm hotel and staff. Would be nice to have some kind of spa availability.

Review 36:Very friendly welcome

Review 37:Everyone was really friendly and keen to be of help where help was needed..

Review 38:Location, staff, management, catering, comfort. Overall a great place to stay.

Review 39:Breakfast wasn't early enough for me

Review 40:very quiet and peaceful. Helpful staff

Review 41:Room and Breakfast both good

Review 42:Great service, very friendly

Review 43:Main course pheasant was dry.

Review 44:General ambience was good. Staff excellent. Nice place and grounds.

Review 48:Beautiful room with balcony. Great selection of food both evening meal and breakfast.

Review 49:The staff were really friendly, the food in the restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast. Lovely big comfy bed.

Review 50:Everything. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful yet never obtrusive

Review 51:Very Friendly Staff

Review 52:No swimming pool. Weak Wifi.

Review 53:Peroni on draught. Tasty mushrooms.

Review 54:Toilet door wouldn't close and shower tray sealant needs replacing

Review 55:Excellent breakfast choice

Review 56:No lift, but we coped and tried to minimise going up and down two flights of stairs.

Review 57:Friendly, helpful staff. Great location.

Review 58:Rooms were 'outside' (ok when dry)

Review 59:Size of room Clean and tidy hotel Good food Lounges/reception rooms TV

Review 60:No complaints at all.

Review 61:The staff, the evening meal, the room and the breakfast.

Review 62:The staff and service we very good. I would recommend this hotel.

Review 63:not much

Review 64:Hotel, garden and its quietness

Review 65:Rooms were spacious and very well looked after.

Review 66:Spacious room; peaceful & beautiful setting; courteous staff; lovely food

Review 67:Peaceful, very clean and comfortable, huge bed, good breakfast, close to many attractions/activities.

Review 68:Not easy to find. Directions need to be clearer as hotel is not visible from the road. Hotel sign is utilitarian and doesn't reflect the good quality offered.

Review 69:Lovely location of hotel, friendly welcome, good all round.

Review 70:Little further than expected from main area of town. Very quiet but that may just have been time of year

Review 71:Lovely garden and tranquil setting. Friendly and courteous staff.

Review 72:Disappointing food. Shower not working and told a frequent problem in room 8 so why hasn't it been sorted?

Review 73:Brilliant staff and very comfortable, excellent service

Review 74:There were no aspects of our stay we did not like.

Review 75:Thoroughly enjoyed stay. Room was excellent and very clean, food was lovely. Good choice at breakfast. The whole experience was very relaxed and comfortable.

Review 76:There appears to be a lot of places closed down possibly due to the downturn in the economy, it is also happening more and more in many areas.

Review 77:I liked Selkirk as a base for travel around the Scottish Borders, easy access and within 40-45 minutes from other towns to visit.

Review 78:Overpriced for the size of the room. Would have expected to pay about£90 - £100 for the size of the room that we had.

Review 79:Very well run hotel. Staff and owners very helpful and friendly.Standard of food very good indeed. Spotlessly clean through out.

Review 80:Booked a room with the bedroom on a mezanine floor. This got very warmduring the night.

Review 81:Staff were very friendly. Took every chance to make our stay a plesantexperiance. Bar prices were very reasonable. Meals were excellant.Plenty of choice. Only down side to meals was that there was too muchfood on the plate. So if you like a lot of food after a buisy dayPhiliburn is for you.

Review 82:Could have done with a tv in the bedroom no matter what size. A litllebit overpriced with vat - £180! Creaky floors woke us up when one of uswent to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Review 83:Easy to find and located in a lovely part of Selkirk. Unfortunately wewere only staying overnight as we were passing through so didn'treally see the town. The lay out of 'upstairs downstairs' of ourbedroom /sitting room area was very spacious and nice. Evening mealwas delicious and lovely presented. Choice of breakfast very impressed. And excellent.

Review 84:The room was very comfortable and quiet when we were there but it was situated at the side of the new function suite with a view of the wall. I doubt future guests would be able to enjoy the peace when weddings receptions are taking place 2m away. The food was always beautifully presented but I had a problem digesting one of the main courses.

Review 85:The staff quickly responded to minor problems without any fuss. The hotel was ideally placed for visiting Abbotsford and the Borders. The gardens were lovely and would make the ideal backdrop for weddings.

Review 86:We felt our hotel room was not very well designed. The room was a suite with a lounge area when you initially walked into the room and we found that the bathroom/shower/toilet was located downstairs in the lounge area. The bedroom was upstairs and was reached by a curved staircase with a large rope to hold on to as a bannister. We found it was most unsuitable when having to get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet when it was dark. There were two steps at the bottom of the stairs, which when trying to manoeuvre in the dark were easily misjudged. My husband and I are not elderly but we did wonder how elderly guests or people with knee problems would manage with the quite steep staircase and only a rope to help you up, and we think they would have more problems than we did having to manoeuvre the stairs to get to the toilet in the middle of the night if needed.

Review 87:We have stayed at this hotel before and really liked the location of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. The breakfast and evening meal were very good and the evening meal particularly was very well presented and the choice was interesting and varied. The room itself was very comfortable and clean and we liked the lounge area and the TV facilities with tea and coffee making also. The hotel itself is well decorated and inviting when you first arrive with a very nice lounge area which we enjoyed after dinner and partaking of a very nice whiskey!

Review 88:Lack of lift for infirm guests but compensated for by the personal attention given to new arrival. Room 12 comfortable but a shade cramped.

Review 89:Reception excellent - most helpful in our physically infirm condition. Excellent cuisine. General ambience and peaceful situation.

Review 90:Pretty, peaceful countryside location. Staff were friendly, food was excellent. Room was cosy, comfortable and well maintained. Would liked to have stayed for longer.

Review 91:Nothing really..

Review 96:Clean, well furnished. Overall very nice.

Review 97:Evening meals were a bit expensive.

Review 98:Location, not far from town, but secluded and near lots of lovely walls. Wonderful breakfast!

Review 99:There was nothing not to like about the Philipburn Country House Hotel

Review 100:The hotel was excellent, very clean and the staff very friendly.

Review 101:No bath in room No spa /swim facilities
