Reviews for The Princess Royal
Review 1:This has been our second visit to this hotel whilst visiting family in the area and we had a lovely, comfortable stay. The room was extremely clean and with good facilities. The breakfast was cooked fresh from the menu with a good variety of choice.
Review 2:Extractor for bathroom had been switched off at the isolator so set the fire alarm off with steam. The room smelt strongly of damp.
Review 3:Location and fine ale, large rooms
Review 4:Breakfast tray not collected on Christmas day still there in the evening. Plug not working in bathroom sink.
Review 5:Nice room with a comfy bed and duvet. Good breakfast. Alternative and welcoming staff.
Review 6:The breakfast was a bit slow, with the waiters not paying attention. Breakfast is between 7 - 10 am, but when you come at 9:00am, most of the fruits are gone and there is no replacement. It is a long wait when you ask for coffee or tea.
Review 7:Nice location, close to the venue we attended for a family function
Review 8:The lady at the desk was probably a bit stressed when we arrived and could have been a little more friendly. Other guests found the same.
Review 9:Good room and excellent breakfast. Very nice breakfast staff.
Review 10:Ideal situation for A1M ,as my wife and I with two friends were travelling South to Guildford and stopped off for Bed and Breakfast.. Welcoming reception on a busy evening. Good food even if we had a bit of a wait for main course due to exceptionally busy kitchen. Comfortable Accommodation.
Review 11:The A31 was nearby and one could hear the traffic throughout the night.
Review 12:The hotel was in a good position for reaching Farnham and Guildford. The room was spacious with plenty of storage space. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was more than adequate with a good shower. The breakfast was very good, freshly cooked with good choice as well as fruit, cereal and pastries. Bar was good and reasonable menu in restaurant.
Review 13:pub area was "tired". it needed a good cleaning and painting, and some of the chairs in the bar area needed refurbishing or replacing.
Review 14:accomodation was nice, clean, and comfortable
Review 15:There was one young girl with blonde hair that worked behind the bar that was very friendly and accommodating, but a few others were very abrupt and verging on rude. When I asked about a later check-out the woman actually rolled her eyes at me. The other serving staff need to smile more as well. The hotel is by a very busy bypass, so you can hear the road from the bedrooms. They may need to think about investing in double glazing.
Review 16:The food in the pub was delicious, the pub was cosy and welcoming, the rooms were clean and more stylish than expected and the bed was SO comfortable! The towels in the bathroom were also big and fluffy.
Review 17:If the breakfast wasn't included, it would have been an expensive extra @£10:95 for a full English.
Review 18:In general an excellent pub/hotel. Evening food was excellent.
Review 19:Felt a little 'in the way' at breakfast. Restaurant not cleaned from night before at 9am
Review 20:Spacious, comfortable room with well serviced bathroom
Review 21:The staff wasn't very friendly run by kids. Food was poor frozen roast potatoes on a roast. Breakfast had good chooses but the quality and how it was cooked wasn't good.
Review 22:The room was nice the pub was lovely
Review 23:Booking dot com mixed dates up other guest experienced the same issue . I then contacted Princess royal who Changed booking dates how ever they appear to have double charged me despite email from booking manager who agreed change without charge.
Review 24:Traffic noise from nearby road. Not a very picturesque view from room.
Review 25:Security good, fire safety good, staff very polite and obliging. Excellent breakfast. Proximity to train station and easy access into Waterloo.
Review 26:We only needed a light snack and found them quite expensive.
Review 27:We were attending a wedding so to have the room ready on arrival was a bonus. We appreciated that it was a quiet room.
Review 28:Expensive for £99. Evening meal was very poor, potato curry, more like watery mash with no spice or flavour. Traffic noise.
Review 29:Comfortable spacious room.
Review 30:Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient at all times. Nothing was to much trouble. Duncan went out of his way to make sure everything was well. Hotel was clean, comfortable and the food was great value for money thank you.
Review 31:So many hotels have terrible facilities for doing hair and makeup but there was a good size mirror, an angle poise lamp (no hotels I have visited ever have enough light to do hair and makeup), good powerful hair drier which wasn't fixed in the bathroom and comfortable room overall. Great breakfast too.
Review 32:the sat nav had problems finding the exact location, so perhaps a warning or note that it is near Kei's restaurant would help on booking
Review 33:parking near the entrance to the hotel which was secure; plenty of milk and teabags
Review 34:The window at the room 16 is not able to close nice so there is a lot of noise from the outside in the room from the traffic.
Review 35:Excellent feeling of being at home.
Review 36:We went into the restaurant for our evening meal the restaurant was quiet our first course arrived in an acceptable time and was very nice, then all went wrong the service was a shambles with an unacceptable wait for the main course we watched while others were served that arrived after us and had their starters after us. I complained to the manager who finally got our dinner to us but mine had to be returned as it was cold. A meal was cooked for me again but we had sat down for dinner at 7.15 and it was now 8.45 and we had been travelling all day. The under manager John was very apologetic and sorted things out the next morning with a discount and explained it was a staffing problem if not for this I would have scored more.
Review 37:nice looking pub. The rooms were very nice and comfortable and separate from the pub which was very good as it kept noise levels down in fact very quiet.
Review 38:Make sure you either have a car or plan what you want to do and book taxis ahead as its difficult to get a taxi to take you to town or bring you back unless booked in advance.
Review 39:Nothing
Review 40:Friendly, helpful staff - nothing too much trouble. Very comfortable room. Good quality hair dryer compared with the usual hotel underpowered hair dryers.
Review 41:2 X needles on bedroom floor carpet. Menu for evening meal. Selected Mediterranean bubble & squeak which turned out to be bland risotto rice. No explanation of dish contents on menu. Water would not stay in sink to enable washing. Bathroom mirror had large crack & dressing table surface large scratch. TV remote difficult to operate to right channel.
Review 42:Bed was good. Room ok. Car parking good.
Review 43:The room was very cold at night, I could not get warm, and consequently couldn't sleep. I tried to put the wall radiator on - without success, and the thermostat on the wall was not working either.
Review 44:The facilities were good,. The bed was comfortable..
Review 45:Rooms are far from reception and bar - bedrooms in separate block and not covered to get to main building. Not wheelchair/ crutches friendly. A drive from Farnham.
Review 46:Staff and food. Quiet room and comfortable.
Review 47:Rude management, not very helpful...( having young children we thought eating earlier and getting out with them would be best) asked to the take child's desert to room as it was included, after asking and waiting 20mins.. we asked again and were told by the manager guy "we do have other customers you know" why did we bother to be helpful...!!!! And at breakfast no apologie from a lady manager who was very abrupted in the first innstunts.. Staff looked very miserable... And our room was very damp...
Review 48:1/2 hour delay in getting breakfast order due to a breakfast meeting taking place in the dining room, made my day start late, A 10% discount was given for this
Review 49:Location and hotel room were good
Review 50:Staff were a bit forgetful but they were very busy, but the are always very helpful and curtious
Review 51:Friendly hotel with a family atmosphere, great rooms and facilities. Food and drink excellent, true country pub feel
Review 52:Breakfast was good but could have been a little warmer and I'd have liked a pot of coffee instead of having to ask for refil
Review 53:The rooms were excellent and staff very friendly
Review 54:Attentive and friendly staff. Satisfying evening meal, excellent wine list. Room was a good size, bed comfortable and good wifi connection. Superb breakfast, highly recommend the creamy scrambled eggs and smoked salmon option!
Review 55:A fairly standard room but had all you would need including iron, hair dryer and tea/coffee. I left a jacket in our room and a cleaner ran out with it as I had a phone call from reception trying to catch us before we left, excellent customer service in that respect. Breakfast was excellent!
Review 56:Didn't use WiFi, but put top score anyway Very friendly staff at bar, housekeeping and breakfast. Luxury, but with character - not a large plastic chain hotel! Would recommend it to anyone and stay myself again if event in the area.
Review 57:The windows in my room did not fasten properly so the road noise was really quite loud.
Review 58:Room was quite large, plenty of tea and coffee provided. Breakfast was nice.
Review 59:We had to go out of the building where the rooms were to go into the pub for breakfast so we got a bit wet with the rain. Apart from this it was all good!
Review 60:The breakfast was very good.
Review 61:I know they can't really do much about this, but there is a lot of noise from the traffic on the adjacent road.
Review 62:Friendly welcome and all staff were attentive and helpful. A relaxed and quick service in the restaurant and hotel.
Review 63:Distance from town meant a £10 taxi each way! Staff welcome was brilliant, when I returned at 9:45 they couldn't care less and were only interested in closing up (despite the fact they were open until 11:00).
Review 64:A nice bistro pub with an outbuilding that help the rooms, better than you would expect and quite adequate to work from as well. Ideal for a pied a terre business travel. Good beer and a good breakfast (not taken together though!)
Review 65:Fold out sofa bed for the kids rather than beds, I paid for a family room and expected beds rather than an uncomfortable fold out sofa.
Review 66:Breakfast and evening meals were wonderful, the staff were lovely too.
Review 67:We needed to leave early and unfortunately we had to wait for the staff to arrive so that we could hand over the key. We therefore did not partake of breakfast and thought that perhaps this could have been deducted from our bill
Review 68:Our booking was made for the purpose of somewhere to sleep as we were attending a function at another hotel.
Review 69:The only thing I didn't like you had to arrive before 11pm other wise you weren't able to get in your room because your hotel isn't manned after 11pm and I know it's likely not to happen but the fact there was no one 24hrs we thought was a bit strange, also unfortunately you could here the traffic on the motorway
Review 70:Liked how nice the room was, very spacious and clean, the most comfortable we've ever slept in whilst away, we would stay again
Review 71:Rudely awaken by a fire alarm at 9am! Subsequently possibly saw the culprit a man smoking outside :-)
Review 72:Good location for business and great attached pub / restaurant. Didn't eat there but did have wine and very nice.
Review 73:Generally this was great for an overnight stay while visiting family however the shower grout and mat were quite mouldy. we had to ask twice for tea at breakfast because it had been forgotten and after asking for no black pudding, we got black pudding.
Review 74:Nothing to report
Review 75:Comfortable room and very helpful staff. Great food, manager was on the ball. The place was busy with several functions, but we were looked after. Thank you Duncan.
Review 76:The carpets some of the décor was a bit outdated and could benefit from a touch of paint and refurnishing.
Review 77:The Hotel had a pub at the front which was quite handy as it was a way out into Farnham though a taxi would not put you out of pocket.
Review 78:The terms and conditions of the free wifi connection would not open on my phone. I could therefore not decide whether or not I agreed to them and so did not use this service.
Review 79:The rooms and bathrooms were beautifully presented, spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were extremely polite and accommodating. Overall an excellent hotel. We would certainly consider staying again.
Review 80:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 81:Staff were excellent, polite, professional - from the welcoming receptionist to the attentive (but not overpowering) waiting staff in the dining room. Delicious food in the restaurant, good breakfast, comfy room, lovely flowers outside!
Review 82:The food was excellent and I can highly recommend the steak and ale pie and the peanut mousse with caramelized banana - it was to die for! The staff were really friendly and the room was perfect!
Review 83:The early closing of the bar as we got there late and just wanted a drink and off to bed but we were told drink it up as we close now. Didn't think it nice as we just arrived and didn't know thar
Review 84:Location of rooms
Review 85:Not s seperaye reception and you can only check in up till 11pm as sometimes i have 2 travel down at night
Review 86:Every member of staff do helpful and rooms r very clean
Review 87:Traffic noise. Its really not that hard to soundproof a room that is next to a busy dual carriagway. We did not realise this until check in and there isnt any real let up with passing traffic during the night struggled with sleep which spoiled what was otherwise a good hotel.
Review 88:Free parking, comfy bed, good breakfast choices including vegetarian full english and the good strong wifi were all pluses
Review 89:Couldn't connect to Wi-fi. It might have been nice to have an elevator.
Review 90:During our stay at the Lodge staff were helpful and courteous, giving us travel suggestions and ordering taxis, etc. Not to mention the breakfasts were very substantial and delicious!
Review 91:The beds (both sofa and normal ones) are old, too soft (used too much) and there were lots and lots of moths. The carpet was already eaten by them... and they were hanging on the ceiling and flying all over. I kill almost a dozen. That was quite unpleasant, also because I did not want them to get into my suitcases. They did not change the towels one day although later on they did when I asked them. I guess it needs more care with the cleanliness and appearance of the room. Fumigating will be a good thing.
Review 92:The staff are nice, very pleasant, they will go out of their way to facilitate your stay. Very nice atmosphere and a quiet place to be. Good food at the restaurant, although at breakfast there were few options. Also both days we had to ask for pastries for all were gone after 1 hr of service. The last day they did not have any but they managed to do some pancakes instead. Like I said, the personal will try to make it the best for the client.
Review 93:the only thing I would say was that the lighting in the room was too dim and I found reading in bed difficult. This is true of many other hotels I've stayed in and not just the Princess Royal
Review 94:The staff were very helpful, friendly and made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. They even chuckled when I had to call someone over as I couldn't turn the hot tap on only to discover I was turning it in the wrong direction!. breakfast was amazing. Great place
Review 95:A couple of bits in the room weren't clean. If we had noticed on our arrival we would have asked for a different room, and I think they would have been able to provide us with a clean room.
Review 96:Everything we needed was provided. It was a good stay in lodgings next to the pub (rather than in the same building). The food at the pub was great!
Review 97:location wasn't suitable for older persons with mobility issues
Review 98:I liked the staff. I liked our room...Everyone was very friendly. I felt they had been trained really well
Review 99:It was all good. Perhaps the tiling in bathroom could have been a bit better (there was a bit of black mould) but not so bad that it would affect your stay. Also perhaps needs a warning hot water in basin tap very hot very quick
Review 100:Clean and comfortable
Review 101:The receptionist was a little abrupt on arrival, probably due to pressure but could have been more welcoming. The service at breakfast was a little lack lustre and tables could have been cleaner.
Review 102:The room was spacious and clean. Overall very good .
Review 103:a lot of road noise from nearby dual carriageway
Review 104:really spacious room with all the facilities you could want. great dinner and breakfast. friendly staff
Review 105:Staff were all mostly very approachable but the Sunday morning breakfast rush seemed push the limited staff to the max and we waited to be served for 30 minutes.
Review 106:The location was ideal for what we required and the room comfortable and of a good size.
Review 107:location of our room 11 next to front entrance with smoke bins outside, being constantly woken up by front door banging and loud talking by other residents due to location of smoke bins .
Review 108:loved the room layout, comfortable bed,air con, trouser press, lovely bathroom .excellent food and service, clean and tidy
Review 109:Only downside was the shower...weird half swinging door meant that the floor was soaked by the time I was done. Also some moldy bits in the grout that need attention.
Review 110:The staff were fantastic, always helpful, went out of their way to answer questions and provide excellent service. The room was spacious and the building is located behind the pub, so was quiet through the weekend. Would definitely stay here again, the pub food was also great. * Special mention to the free breakfast. There's the usual croissant and yogurt, but they also have a hot menu to choose from at no charge. Bangers, beans, mushrooms, egg,s whatever you like. Excellent.
Review 111:It was very busy at breakfast so took a while to be served but was good once got it. Also the bathroom smelt like smoke.
Review 112:Rooms were well equipped and spacious. Staff were very helpful.
Review 113:Breakfast was disapointing really. Had the big breakfast and it was a single egg, baked beans, tomatoes, black pudding and a basic sausage, just lacked a bit of thought and love. I was hoping for perhaps two eggs and a somewhat more interesting breakfast. Getting coffee was unclear got served one small cup but not offered a refill so had to find it myself.
Review 114:Location, ease of parking and comfortable room with wifi
Review 115:no complaints
Review 116:The staff were very helpful and efficient . we had a meal on Sunday for 10 persons which was 1st class. Once again the service was very good
Review 117:On arrival ( early , but only wanted to know surrounding area We were met with as only can be described as ( Madam Grumpy ) very rude to the point that we did consider not coming back. However on our return 4 hrs later staff had changed and welcome 100pc better. The place could do with a good head waitress / waiter to run the food side , we found this very sloppy and slow and no real personality , only doing a job. would make the experience a lot better.
Review 118:Location and comfortable room , management very good , food is good.
Review 119:The bathroom tiles are dirty and have mould growing within tile grout. In addition, there was a smell of drains/ sewage coming from the wash basin. This was also noted by colleagues staying in adjacent rooms
Review 120:Nicely decorated room with good provision of tea, coffee and water. The bed is very comfortable with nice soft furnishings
Review 121:The rooms do not contain a fridge which is a significant issue for us as we needed to store my husbands type 1 insulin. The staff however happily accommodated storing it in the owners apartment on the premises for the first night but not the second night due to logistics. I think a fridge behind the bar that's easily accessible to guests and staff after hours will be beneficial and will make the property even more accommodating. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Sara and Ben xx (from Sydney)
Review 122:We stayed there for a wedding in Farnham this weekend. Very comfortable bed and lovely location for a weekend away in Surrey. Breakfast was included and the staff were so lovely.
Review 123:Very squeaky floor boards, we were on the first floor. There is some traffic noise.
Review 124:for our journey convenient with a clean and tidy room. The breakfast was superb.
Review 125:No double glazing so you can hear road noise, some mould around shower screen
Review 126:Comfy large bed, nice room, large bathroom, great breakfast an tentative staff
Review 127:Super staff, great food and top class rooms. Not often you can stay in a hotel that knocks premier inn into a cocked hat for £30 less per night than the nearest premier inn. Can without doubt recommend this hotel.
Review 128:Horrendous road noise from busy 'A' road right next to hotel, particularly evident from 4am onwards ! Breakfast took an eternity to arrive, and staff looked disinterested.
Review 129:Lovely pub and super accommodation.
Review 130:A good stay. Nice comfy bed - everything I needed. I booked two hours before I arrived. Slick check in. Arrived, went to bed, got up and had great poached eggs and bacon for breakfast.
Review 131:With the SatNav of TomTom it will send you to the wrong part of the A31 road on the other side of the roundabout, in Farnham. If you fill in 'Runfold' instead of Farnham this will not happen. Otherwise it is well worth just taking a look on google maps for 1 minute and you'll understand how 'Guildford road' is not an ordanary road wit a beginning and an end.
Review 132:Courtesy of staff and the breakfast
Review 133:Nothing!!
Review 134:Location comfort cleanliness and excellent welcoming staff, nothing was too much trouble, will definitely stay there again, I highly recommend it
Review 135:In the hallways there was a smell of smoke. Maybe guests were smoking outside with the door open??
Review 136:We stayed here after a birthday party in Farnham. We were surprised at how nice the pub and accommodation was. The breakfast was lovely and the staff very accommodating.
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel's reception is located in the bar/pub area and closes at 11 p.m. If you do not arrive before this time, you will not be able to check in.The hotel parking is at the rear of the property. Take the second exit to access it.
