Reviews for Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel & Resort
Review 1:Room was lovely with beautiful view but had ( a locked) adjoining door to neighbouring room. We could hear everything the couple in that room said to each other as well as their phone calls which they had on speaker phone! Not great.
Review 2:Atmosphere, staff and facilities all really good and the food in the restaurant was wonderful.
Review 3:The hotel room was great, but items such as the bedside light was faulty (light flickered on/off). The shower hose had a leak so water went on the floor and was very stiff to operate. Better when we booked in that someone showed us where the room was; got lost in the maze.
Review 4:Could hear a lot from the room next door due to the door in between the rooms. Restaurant wasn't great for the cost.
Review 5:Location was great and the room was large.
Review 6:Cleanliness of room. For the money would expect a little more modern and better condition. Steps up to room very slippery in rain.
Review 7:Pool, grounds, location
Review 8:We thought the drinks at the bar during the wedding reception were expensive.
Review 9:The staff were very helpful and friendly, they made us feel very welcome. The location was fabulous.
Review 10:No assistance getting from reception to room. Inadequate signage to room. No mini bar and a £5 tray fee. Access to room directly to the outside.
Review 11:Rooms and grounds were fantastic
Review 12:We loved the location and grounds. The staff were really friendly, delicious breakfast, close to walks and cycle hire. Also found a great Indian restaurant in the nearby village.
Review 13:but the price for the afternoon tea was far to expensive for what we had, for £18. 95 each I would expected tongs and frills on the plate, the scones were caught during baking, no pastries and staff moving boxes/bar trays around us during our tea
Review 14:Very helpful staff, the food was excellent. The spa was amazing! Lovely clean resort I took my daughter for a Christmas break.
Review 15:When we got there we found our double bed was two singles zipped together. As soon as we complained the management were great and solved the problem.
Review 16:Staff were very good and accommodating, we were waited on like VIP's
Review 17:There wasn't anything we didn't like, it was all perfection
Review 18:The staff were excellent, and tailored the breakfasts and meals to our needs of a vegan and vegetarian couple. We were really impressed at the option for soy milk being available as this isn't the case for most hotels. The location and the grounds of the hotel were beautiful and with the great sized swimming pool for leisure. We travelled by train and found that Lymington pier station was only a stones throw from the hotel. Also the close by town of Lymington high street is a good choice for dining, and the taxi service is cheap and reliable. The whole stay was a really pleasurable experience, and the room was extremely comfortable and cosy. Also the staff were very polite and well manners. All in all it was an amazing stay, will be recommending to our friends, and would definitely stay again.
Review 19:We would have liked to eat in the bar a little later we had to eat before 6pm or have a 3 course more formal meal in the dining room, we had traveled a long way and opted for the bar as we didn't have the appetite for 3 courses.
Review 20:the peace and quiet
Review 21:I came here 10 years ago, and the facilities had not been updated at all. The breakfast was average at best and no where near worth the price it suggests on the menu. Service was slow, you were lucky to get served at all!
Review 22:Location was great, short walk into town. The room was quite nice and the bed was comfy.
Review 23:A hospital without renovation....old furniture..no fire place in order in the reception...the spa very very old no renovation....since 40 years... The room like a ibis room no charming ...outside big like a big old hospital without renovation. The staff not very smiling ...in stress...bad remenber....
Review 24:Nothing...It is like a hospital for very old people.
Review 25:Didn't like the idea of a door seperating the rooms, you could here them talking, breakfast was cold.bar drink, wine seemed like it was left in the bottle for a while, tasted funny as if it had been there a while.
Review 26:Pool , gym,sauna,steam was good.
Review 27:The restaurant could do with a little better management or staff. Waiting times are a little too long and a few guests were left waiting. Easy to solve!!!
Review 28:Lovely location and facilities.
Review 29:Very slow service in restaurant on first day of stay Advertising Stornoway Black Pudding - which was not - never been near Scotland!
Review 30:Beautiful location Excellent room Comfortable bed General ambiance
Review 31:The wifi didn't work, the service in the steak grill was very slow and not hugely helpful. The pool was closed on one of the day's having a new filtration system put in.
Review 32:The pool and food were wonderful. The room was comfortable but a little dated. The fresh fruit was a nice touch
Review 33:Bed and breakfast go together, so it now seems odd that there is a room only rate, with hefty charges for breakfast.
Review 34:Spacious rooms and good-sized swimming pool. Excellent breakfast buffet.
Review 35:Most of the double rooms have interconnecting doors - Booking.com does not tell you this and we were kept awake most of the first night by a young family. Hotel did everything they could to resolve this so can't fault them but it should really be stated on initial booking information.
Review 36:Staff very friendly and helpful when we had an issue with our room. Pool a good size for a sensible swim and open early. Breakfast good and served early which is great when working. Great pub just down the road does really good food and is excellent value for money
Review 37:Not good soundproofing could hear noise next door and upstairs. Staff could have smiled more. Rooms could have been a bit cleaner, especially toilet. Noisy plumbing!
Review 38:Rooms separate from main building. Nice breakfast.
Review 39:The leisure facilities need updating with a breakfast room made separate from the leisure Club.
Review 40:The separately located rooms from the main building makes for a more relaxing break from the normal Hotel.
Review 41:We both feel the accommodation was excellent, the food in the restaurant was superb and could not fault any of the staff. We had been recommended to your hotel and would have not hesitation in staying again and indeed recommending to our friends.
Review 42:We found all the staff gave excellent service but would like to point out one in particular, Colm in the restaurant was excellent there exactly when needed but not overbearing like some places.
Review 43:We asked for a twin room and were given a double. We waited well over half an hour for our breakfast.I hurt my leg on a low wall outside our room due to very poor lighting.it was overpriced for what we got.
Review 44:It was near a good pub.
Review 45:Wasn't impressed with the purpose built rooms away from the Manor House itself. When booking was unaware that I wasn't staying in it. The breakfast service was disappointing with at least a half hour wait for tea and coffee! The drinks prices on top of the stay prices were horrendous! Nearly £50 for one round of drinks for 5 people is disgusting!
Review 46:The location and grounds were breathtaking. The building was beautiful.
Review 47:The staff gave poor service and everything was overpriced. We had a meal at the hotel and one of our group didn't get served their food, after a while she went and asked where her meal was. They told her then that they had run out of the dish she had ordered. They hadn't thought it important to tell her before everyone else's food had come, she had to actually go and ask where her meal was to be informed it wasn't coming. On top of this it was extremely expensive.
Review 48:The building could be considered luxury.
Review 49:We went for our ruby wedding anniversary, on arrival they tried to charge us again, we had to wait 55 mins to be served our breakfast on Sunday morning, plus electric appliances in our room didn't work.
Review 50:First impression we thought it looked like a great place to stay.
Review 51:1) No complimentary Water in room provided - had to complain. 2) Bed / mattress very uncomfortable and thin - resulting in back ache. I suggest the Manager should test it himself for a couple of nights! 3) TV channel 24 not working - no good for World cup Rugby on Saturday!! 4) Service (Saturday night) in the Steak Club very poor we gave up after the main course of our Dinner. 5) Breakfast (Sunday) in the Steak club took over an hour i.e. 10 minutes eating more than 50min waiting Complained to the Manager upon leaving to provide some feed-back for improvement.
Review 52:Good WiFi (rare in large hotels) and dinner in the Waterfall restaurant (Friday night) was good. A pity that it was booked up on Saturday night. Good position and quiet - staff polite
Review 53:On the web site, it said White company products. In the bathroom there were none such products,in place some poor quality shower and shampoo. Thankfully we had own products. Very disappointed .
Review 54:We ordered room service on our last night . It was brilliant. Top quality.
Review 55:Waterford restaurant in the main building a little stuffy (atmosphere-wise) for our liking and staff not very helpful. Food not very hot - as a result, only ate there once. Generally attention to detail sometimes lacking - probably due to our perception that it was understaffed - especially in the restaurants, leaving those that were there running around like headless chickens trying to do the jobs of three people.
Review 56:Extensive grounds for a stroll. Staff at the "Scottish Steak Club" were very good - especially the F&B Manager. Food there very good to - my wife particularly liked the steaks. Had a massage at the spa - excellent!! Rooms unusual - which made them very good!!!!
Review 57:Really minor really but the bar area could do with a bit of a freshening up.
Review 58:Very friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely big and comfy bed, lovely location.
Review 59:The offer indicates that you are staying in the main building but in reality you are staying in a accommodation block out the back overlooking the other accommodation blocks. The staff are children with no apparent parental supervision and we were directed to have drinks and meals in some soulless block and not the main building as expected.
Review 60:The location
Review 61:Finding upon arrival that we were not staying within the hotel but in a specialist built bedroom approx 200 yards from the hotel and the same distance from the car park. Dirty pillows Litter in bed side drawer from previous guests
Review 62:Quality food
Review 63:poor check in, cot in room dangerous, no answer when rang reception, room quality poor, not good value for money.
Review 64:close to ferry terminal for trip over to Isle of Wight
Review 65:We booked the hotel expecting to use the spa facilities. We were there for 2 nights and on the first day we turned up and asked about the availability of the use of the spa and it was completely booked over for the next week. So I was disappointed we could not use the hotel for the reason we booking it for the spa.
Review 66:Lovely location, good clean rooms and the staff were very good. Breakfast is well worth it!!
Review 67:The restaurant and staff were just appalling. We waited for over 2 hours for a fishcake which was clearly Findus, and my husbands curry was out of a packet (or jar), and the kids tomato soup was spicy. We then waited a further 40 mins for a very disappointing banana split. The room was clearly last decorated back in the eighties and there was that constant musty smell you get from a damp room. At £200 per night it was probably the worst hotel I've stayed in for some time.
Review 68:Location
Review 69:This was a present to my boss, who took her daughter. The only thing they mentioned was they had a really noisy family of children, so spent little time in their lovely room. If they had been there longer they would have asked to be moved .
Review 70:The spa was lovely, friendly staff & fab treatments.
Review 71:I booked a twin and rang beforehand to confirm that a twin was what was made available. However on arrival it was a double! This has to be rectified!
Review 72:That the pool had no children for the first 2 hours!
Review 73:The Steak House was very run down and the food quality was poor and boring. They could really work on the presentation and be more daring when it comes to flavour. The staff was not attentive and we had to remind them to serve our drinks that we ordered. The food took 40 minutes although the restaurant was empty. Our room was run down and needed a make over.
Review 74:The main house looks amazing and the receptionist was welcoming and friendly. The pool facilities are great for families.
Review 75:Spent £260 for one night (last minute booking), couldn't get intothe proper Restaurant. The alternative restaurant was more like a sportscentre facility which whilst ok for breakfast the next morningwasn't very inviting for an evening meal.
Review 76:Hotel looks impressive, lovely location and great facilities for youngfamily holidays
Review 77:we had a winter duvet on our bed and it is summer time! could not sleep was sweating all night. Indoor swimming pool was not very warm. The CAFE restaurant was very expensive. Lodges a bit dated.
Review 78:I liked the location, Indoor swimming pool, position of hotel.
Review 79:Prefer to have electricity socket near bed, awkward that across the room. Bed firm. Prefer feather pillows. Breakfast not included and a bit of a shambles
Review 80:Great location enjoyed facilities Good meal in the Restaurant
Review 81:The bed was a bit hard and lumpy.
Review 82:The fitness facilities (indoor and outdoor pools) were very good. The chalet was a good size, of a good standard and quiet.
Review 83:Three people walked in room. Noisy trollers every few minutes. Room not cleaned when out for 5 hours. Breakfast and evening meal too expensive
Review 84:Toilets at restaurant dirty only two one no lock on door the other wouldn't flush staff said waiting for it fixing? Long wait to be served breakfast went out for dinner after paying £11.40 for a pint of beer and a small glass of wine
Review 85:Grounds and location
Review 86:The toilets in the leisure building near the restaurant were not in great condition and one toilet needed cleaning urgently!
Review 87:The pool was lovely for our young daughter. The separate box room was perfect.
Review 88:Outside the room one could see cobwebs on the hand railings. balconies could do with a coat of paint.
Review 89:Location. staff, quality of breakfast and dinner. Space.
Review 90:We stayed here after our wedding for a afternoon and evening of relaxation. We were hoping the spa would be a proper spa, but the pool and jacuzzi were both cold. This was a real disappointment as it was one of the main reasons we were staying. Bar staff were not friendly at all. There were 3 standing behind the bar, none of them said hello what would you like. They all had heads down and looked fed up. No please and thank yous. Heard other guests saying the same.
Review 91:The bedroom was very comfy and the view from the garden was lovely. Nice breakfast.
Review 92:Bathroom very pokey and a bit tired. Service in the Scottish Steak Club slow at times. We stood for a good 5 mins or more with staff knowing we were waiting to be shown to a table and no-one came over. That happened on two nights.
Review 93:Good location, peaceful and relaxing. Great facilities. Delicious food in the Scottish Steak Club.
Review 94:WE had a problem in the bathroom with water coming through the ceiling, we were offered an alternative room and our drinks in the bar free. Excellent service.
Review 95:The fact that the accommodation was in separate areas and a walk away from the main building. Fortunately it didn´t rain but if it had I would have got rather wet.
Review 96:An excellent meal in the Waterhouse Restaurant on the night of my arrival and a wonderfully organised wedding the next day. Also a very quiet and pleasant stay with beautiful grounds to walk around.
Review 97:The only downside to this hotel was the wi-fi. Couldn't access my apps, and internet was really slow. This could be due to the location of the room.
Review 98:The staff,we're friendly. The hotel was lovely and the surroundings were beautiful. The rooms were also very clean and comfortable.
Review 99:Room was not in the main building as expected from picture on the website but a chalet type room, up steep stairs, out in the grounds. It was a hot glass-walled box, with no air con and it wasn't possible to get fresh air at night as there was no window. The fan supplied was noisy as were the wedding guests who roamed the grounds - one even attempting to open my bedroom door at 3am. Not an enjoyable experience.
Review 100:Wherever u go & stay the toilets are never cleaned properly around the rim. Not very hygienic! Bed nice & large but a bit hard & lumpy. One restaurant very expensive the other did not have much choice!
Review 101:Room good & spacious with tea coffe on tap. Enjoyed use of swimming pools, very nice. The gardens surrounding were lovely too. Staff very helpful too.
Review 102:Breakfast very expensive and some bits like bench and kettle needed replacing - a bit worn in places
Review 103:Location and environment at Elmers Court. Love all the space.
Review 104:It could perhaps benefit from a better place for an evening drink after food.
Review 105:My husband and I had an excellent stay the Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel. The facilities exceeded our expectations. As the weather was good we even utilised the oytdoor pool. We were also upgraded on arrival which was a great surprise. We will recommend this hotel to family and friends. A great find for a country hotel retreat.
Review 106:Food seemed expensive & a few items on the evening menu were not available.
Review 107:Staff were very helpful & understanding of the joys of staying away with toddlers! We passed a member of staff that had served us breakfast earlier & they handed the kids a pack of sweets. Very happy kids = happy parents
Review 108:Welcome from check in team was excellent, the grounds and main hotel building are breathtaking. Chalet style room was comfortable. Spa and breakfast facilities looked superb, but not tried. We paid very little for a one- night midweek stay, would definitely come back and pay more!
Review 109:The breakfast was a bit expensive, if you had everything £17 would be ok, but when you only have some then the full rate is very high.
Review 110:Couldn't say enough good things about the hotel.
Review 111:Initial arrival confusing with poor signage so my advice is check in before unloading bags. Main issue was the so called 'free wifi' yes free but did involve giving info to iCloud and agreeing to receiving further marketing material. We didn't, so effectively had no wifi
Review 112:Well appointed room with comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. Good facilities esp if you are sporty! Easy to get to and travel around from.
Review 113:We were room only and could have done with a few facilities in room, eg microwave
Review 114:Loved all the outdoor space, walking, outdoor swimming pool (although a tad cold), indoor pool and leisure facilities were lovely.
Review 115:There were two used plasters in the bathroom when we arrived.breakfast was not included and would have been very expensive if we had paid for this as an extra
Review 116:Rooms were spacious and well equipped. Peaceful location and attractive setting
Review 117:price of breakfast exorbitant, £35 for 2! Limited choice of food in steak bar with short evening opening times. More choice and value in lymington. No one asked if any problems with room[ only a few minor].
Review 118:Beautiful grounds, swimming, tennis , table tennis and shot & putting green available.Size of room excellent, fridge a very good idea.
Review 119:Could have been a walk in shower but as we were only there for one night, we managed to get in the bath
Review 120:Bedroom was really nice, water in the room, you could order ice if needed. TV was very good, nice size. Very quiet location, we had a good nights sleep
Review 121:The rock hard bed! The bunk bed that couldn't fit a 14 year old! No fridge in your room, and being charged £408 although the cost was £359! This didn't include breakfast and was London prices for a 3 star accommodation in my opinion! In addition it took me over my limit on my credit card and I will incur a charge, and I spent my lunch hour on my mobile to bookings.com trying to sort out a refund! Not very happy! Last but not least I think a room booked for 4 should have 4 large bath towels, we only had two, so had to use wet towels after our children had used them. Bit of a poor show! ( the restaurant only seemed interested in spa party or wedding guests! Nobody else got served! Not run to the normal standard of a McDonald hotel!)
Review 122:The outdoor pool although it is freezing! And the location.
Review 123:quality of evening meal main course and wrong information given about finance before arrival that caused a dispute at final reception. Although asserting my rights I apologise if that assertive response became rude
Review 124:Environment and room
Review 125:The outside swimming pool was closed due to repairs, this was one of the reasons we chose this hotel for its outside swimming pool.
Review 126:Indoor swimming pool, which is why we booked. The Restaurant service and food was excellent.
Review 127:Booked a king size bed, got two singles pushed together, both at different heights. Room was missing item, when I asked staff for them ,was just given a replacement while in the middle of the lawn. Staff did not appear to care that much and not enough staff on during meal time in the evening
Review 128:Location cleanliness of site
Review 129:The restaurant was understaffed during our evening meal. There was an unacceptably long wait between courses and the waiters did not have time to give individual service.
Review 130:The hotel location and grounds are stunning
Review 131:Having to sign up to The Cloud for free wifi. Breakfast good but very expensive especially if you are with kids who don't eat that much.
Review 132:Fantastic location, grounds buildings views etc. Loved the pool, play areas etc. A little run down in places but nothing to worry about.
Review 133:No umbrellas available either in the room, reception or spa despite rooms being open to the rain! No fish on the breakfast menu.
Review 134:Excellent main building superb banqueting hall Fantastic view of the sea
Review 135:It was all good. Nothing bad but if I had to think of something it would be the room was a tad tired looking. Nothing major.
Review 136:Leisure facilities were a welcome bonus to our fabulous break as was the comfortable accommodation, great food and great location
Review 137:Breakfast slightly expensive, but it was nice.
Review 138:The room was spacious and very comfortable. It had French doors leading out onto a balcony entrance. Use of the swimming pool and gym was a big plus.
Review 139:Being on the ground floor with people walking by or clanking up the steps. Suprised there was no mini fridge. Pool too busy as we had overlooked it was half term. Suprised we had to pay for tennis.
Review 140:The size of the bed!!!! Lovely evening meal in restaurant although quite pricey. Beautiful surroundings.
Review 141:I would like to see stated on the on-line booking whether breakfast is included or not - this did not become apparent until after the process has gone through.
Review 142:The swimming pool was lovely and the location was superb.
The Fine Print
