Reviews for Hawthorns Hotel

Review 1:The kettle fuse needs a look at but other than that, all else was good.

Review 2:The location is perfect, the owner was very pleasant and accommodating and the little pub cat was a sweetheart! I can imagine what hard work it is to manage not only a pub but accommodation and Simon works very hard. I prefer to give my custom to the independent businesses rather than big franchises. My stay was warm and comfortable overall and people were very friendly and welcoming. Traditional pubs/hotels like The Hawthorns are treasures we should be protecting from being turned into modern, pretentious wine bars. I'm all for keeping our pubs the way they should be :)

Review 3:The room. Cozy and a lot of beds. Very good for the price. The whole family have fun in the same room with extra comfortable beds up in the attics. There are dining table and sofas to watch TV close to windows with outside view. We feel cozy there. The bathroom is new and spacious. Although downstairs it may not look the best because it's also a restaurant, but when getting to the bedroom, it's clean, comfortable. Also, the owner cooked good food. The location is close to bus-stop but not too noisy.

Review 4:The side entrance really could do with a sort out it could be a clear up and fire stairs could be hoovered

Review 5:Location entertainment staff breakfast excellent

Review 6:Room okay but small Some areas of the hotel very dirty and quite smelly could do with a revamp asap.

Review 7:Food excellent especially the curries and breakfast.

Review 8:No parking available so you have to use council ones. Plenty of them but not cheap.

Review 9:Good location. Pleasant staff. Best for younger or more vibrant people. I liked it; Mrs not so keen. Good location. Music pub so be prepared.

Review 10:The only problem was the black bits in the shower which could be rather off putting to people staying at the hotel.

Review 11:Simon and his staff are more than happy to help regarding anything that you need for your stay. The breakfast is very good value. The music is always good at the hotel and I look forward to returning to the hotel soon.

Review 12:The Hawthorns Hotel is basically a pub/restaurant with rooms. You have to go through the restaurant only the first time to check-in and then you get in/out by a separate door. The building is very old but the rooms are clean and the staff is very nice. And the most important thing is that when it's only one person staying it's £55 and not £90 like the website says!! So really good value!

Review 13:Cat being in the bar and staff serving after handling it.

Review 14:Location near centre of town and within walking distance of Tor and Chalice Garden. Good food, friendly staff. Live music

Review 15:They forgot to tell us that there was a party going on until midnight. It did go quiet at midnight though. The room could do with a deep clean but on the whole was surface clean.

Review 16:There was a relaxed welcoming atmosphere. The food was great. The location was brilliant. The room was tidy and had basic facilities for use.

Review 17:I could not access the wifi in my room, so I went downstairs and sat in the office. There was music on two nights, including one late night. They played underneath my bedroom. If you go downstairs, it's no problem. If you want to sleep, that will happen after midnight.

Review 18:The owner is charming and helpful. I loved being in the middle of the center of town, which made it very convenient for the conference I went to. My room was small, but cute, which suit me just fine. It gives a nod to the age of the building, but the bathroom was new. For every place I stayed at that time, it was hard for me to get warm during the unexpected cold weather.

Review 19:The location was perfect at the heart of everything. The food was great if you like a curry you are in the right place it's the curry pup of the area

Review 20:The restaurant food is a very high standard and the breakfast excellent. Non residents had come for breakfast so it speaks for itself. The room was small but adequate. Very clean, modern working bathroom, lovely white towels. Great fun and lively. Centre of town so yes, few revellers about at night but all part of the atmosphere. Loved it.

Review 21:Hotel is very scruffy and dirty. Carpet in the bedroom very stained didn't like to walk on it barefoot. Stairs and external areas very worn. I'm not sure where I should have entered but front door handle was falling off and there was a bowl of cat food in the office. It's like staying at somebody's not very clean house. Also there seemed to be no staff other than the owner and I waited to pay in the morning but no one came.

Review 22:Location fantastic central yet still reasonably quiet. Good food menu although sadly wasn't hungry in the evening to try Simons food.

Review 23:it was incredibly dirty on entrance, there were cats who had been sick and excreted on the carpets in the entrance. The hotel smelt of moth balls and although a breakfast was offered given the apparent lack of cleanliness in the entrance area we did not feel we could have ate food in the establishment. Expensive given how dirty it was.

Review 24:location

Review 25:Could do with updating. Decoration in room and carpets need refurbishing.

Review 26:We love location you are near to town, Tor etc. staff are friendly food is excellent.

Review 27:creaky doors! Some late night noise from town but to be expected if you stay in a town over a bank holiday

Review 28:Friendly staff, clean comfortable accommodation and excellent staff and customer service.

Review 29:don't really have any negative remark to make.

Review 30:I loved the location, the place itself has a lot of carachter which i really liked, room super clean, amazing bathroom, warm, staff really nice, cooked me breakfast before the start because i couldn't make it at the normal breakfast hours.

Review 31:The breakfast was poor as it had been cooked earlier and was under lights. As there is a chef in situ I think cooked to order would be preferable. No private car park but a public one close by, payable every day.

Review 32:Excellent location right in the town. Bed extremely comfortable. Served Guinness and the food looked good. They have live music but not on the night we stayed. If I had travelled with my dog he would have been welcome.

Review 33:Parking was limited which was no problem out of season, however there is a pay and display car park close by.

Review 34:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location perfect and parking was available. Food was excellent, good choice and well priced, rooms were clean and well equipped.

Review 35:Beds were not comfortable, wifi didn't work, party in the pub downstairs forced all of us upstairs to the twin beds. The shower was very bad, with no water pressure at all, and difficult to keep the hot water going. Furnishings were old and a little shabby.

Review 36:The room was large, with a double bed downstairs and 4 twin beds upstairs. Breakfast (full English) was included and very good. Staff very helpful.

Review 37:Leaving the next day.

Review 38:The people I met. It was as if I had arrived on different planet. Every individual: a character in their own right and yet so friendly, to a man (and woman). Glastonbury has a unique quality, if you get it, you get it. Oh, I got it alright and The Blues Jam Night, which was the hotel's entertainment that Sunday evening, captured for me the essential spirit of Glastonbury perfectly. Loved it. RPS.

Review 39:Room and pub was very grubby, really needs carpets etc cleaned or replaced. Little expensive compared to another place opposite!

Review 40:Laid back atmosphere, friendly staff. Food excellent

Review 41:Stairs could present a challenge to the elderly or disabled.Hawthorns has the glastonbury Vibe and we loved that. Will returnsoon as possible.

Review 42:Cuisine exceptional. Pub bistro and weekend live music events. TheLandlord is fantastic. Easy come and go environment.

Review 43:The grubby carpet and genuinely grubby feeling of the whole room....it needs repainting, the floor in the bathroom needs replacing

Review 44:The location was very good

Review 45:Room 1 a double en-suite. A very small, cramped or 'cosy' room, whichever way you want to put it. Bedside cabinets, a small TV in one corner on a small unit & a 'wardrobe' which I feel was a converted unit because it wasn't deep enough to hang your clothes, they stuck out a couple of inches so the door wouldnt close until we 'angled' the hangers. Now this is a very basic room. The worst thing is.....dust lay everywhere, on the wooden headboard, on the TV, behind the TV unit it was as though it hadnt been moved in years! The skirting boards were black with dust & grime. The blinds in the window were caked black, behind the bathroom door was black grime and HAIR!! The ledge between the WC & washbasin is caked in dust, also the ledges on the doors were white with dust!! One of the bedside lamps didnt work and the top of the hot water tap in the washbasin was broken. The only mirror is a wooden oval mirror on the bathroom window sill, no full length mirror. Only 1 towel rail, nowhere to store toiletries, not even a shelf. This Hotel needs a good Housekeeper who will clean properly. I can do 'basic' anytime but thats no excuse for dust, dirt & grime! It is a very neglected Hotel needing some TLC. Simon's reputation could be at stake as a Hotelier.I have stayed in many Hotels and this is the dirtiest room I have every stayed in. With hindsight I should have spoke to Simon but I 'put up & shut up' for just 2 nights stay. Would I recommend this Hotel to stay over in?......NO!!

Review 46:This Hotel has great character, atmosphere and fantastic food. Simon is so popular for his evening meals, the staff had to turn people away. The staff don't 'stand on ceremony' they wear jeans, shirts, trainers which is the great 'down to earth' atmosphere me & hubby liked very much. Simon & his kitchen staff do delicious meals, so I would recommend The Hawthorns for meals. Sheets & towells were spotlessly white, the bed & pillows comfortable.

Review 47:cleanliness was worst than poor, the whole room smelt unpleasant. the bathroom had mould on the grouting of the tiles around the bath. The shower curtain that was supposed to be white was orange and mould spotted around the bottom. I couldn't get the shower to work. This was room 5, we were very disappointed.

Review 48:lots of hot water. Location very good

Review 49:The front door was a bit difficult to open - you need to get the knack of it.

Review 50:I found it to be a lovely place the staff were great and very helpful. The breakfast was substantial. Lovely food served. Comfy bed.

Review 51:Hawthorns is a typically busy village pub with the bonus of high quality international food. Therefore we have nothing major to declare.

Review 52:Breakfast was delicious and we booked an evening meal which was equally outstanding. This busy Glastonbury bistro pub is very relaxed and ideally situated for walking around Glastonbury's attractions. Live music or entertainment on a Friday night/ or Saturday. Call Hawthorns for info.

Review 53:Bed rooms need a lick of paint, rooms need to be cleaned proper, ie cobwebs on walls and ceilings, bed was hard, walls was dirty and needed painting.

Review 54:Friendly staff and good food

Review 55:this is probably the first time that i am so disappointed with booking.com. The rating of this hotel is really misleading. i have been traveling in somerset for last 6 months for business. I have not stayed in any other hotel which is less suitable for business travellers. my room had a dodgy door which led to the owners pets bathrooms. The hotel is a one man army with an office which looks like it is from the 1850s. the rooms are creepy and old. The bed sheet and everything else has a dirty feeling about it. The 3 nights I stayed here were probably my worst hotel stay in last few years. After staying in this hotel I have no idea how it can have such a decent rating.

Review 56:Nothing get about this bed and breakfast. The owner was friendly. It had some restaurants close by. I can't think of anything else which was very positive.

Review 57:You can hear people coming and going to their rooms.

Review 58:The Hawthorn is a few doors from the very centre of town. Breakfast isexcellent as is dinner, and the owner and staff are friendly andhelpful. The room I was in was comfortable, though if you are afterluxury, then this isn't for you. I really enjoyed my stay and itwould be my first choice if I were to visit Glastonbury again. If you are lucky, you'll hear some music from the bar downstairs, but by 12 it is as quiet as a mouse!

Review 59:Can't fault this place at all! Central location, great food, clean and comfortable room. Really made to feel welcome. My wife had a curry and claims it to be one of the best she has ever had! I really can't say much more as it was just a great place to stay. Good value and worth every penny!

Review 60:The pub area beneath the accommodation area. There was an unpleasant odour and I wasn't informed about meal times etc, as a result I was unaware of arrangements for breakfast. Put this with the state of the place causing me to believe that it was being refurbished, I went out for my first breakfast. Only when I went to pay my bill upon departure was I then told about breakfast. To be fair, I was cooked a decent breakfast. However, I won't be going back.

Review 61:The room itself and ensuite were fine. Small but very comfortable and the ensuite was lovely. All very clean.

Review 62:staff were very helpful and i liked the laid back easy going atmosphere. curry night on a Thursday was a treat and i was just disappointed i couldn't stay for the live music on Friday evening. lovely courtyard garden. Great breakfasts.

Review 63:Everything about the Hawthorns Hotel was beyond my expectations: The staff couldn't have nicer, the room was very comfortable, and the food was superior. I can't wait to go back and stay longer at the Hawthorns Hotel.

Review 64:Room decor a bit tatty but clean. Service not very efficient but friendly. Not the place to go if you are in a hurry

Review 65:This is a real pub with rooms, friendly service, good beer, great curries and live music. I stay in a lot of "corporate" hotels and it was a real pleasure to stay somewhere so personal and friendly

Review 66:Carpark at rear fine, but allow yourself abit of extra time if you have a large car to reverse out as it's tight. There is an alternative Pay & Display one close by however.

Review 67:Staff very friendly & welcoming. Very clean throughout. Nice ambience/atmosphere. Comfy bed & room nice & light. Breakfast good.

Review 68:Maybe the reception /entrance area could be cleaned up and made more inviting. Had to wait around till early evening to get hold of owner to let us in. Entrance way smelt musty.

Review 69:The hotel was very close to town and also the free parking out the back. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The history within the hotel is unique also. Room was clean and comfortable and the full English breakfast was good.

Review 70:A fantastic find which will now be our only place to stay when visiting Glastonbury. Wonderful staff, great value and the home cooked meals are amazing. The bar is friendly and great to end the night off. A good shower with plenty of hot water and a wonderful full English breakfast meant everything was perfect.

Review 71:The building is old and does have a soul, as so to speak. Unfortunately the walls are rather thin and we got woken up extremely early in the morning, around 5:30 a.m. with people banging doors in the corridor, which just happened to be outside our room, or it sounded like it!. The bed I must say was a bit tired and my husband and I tended to 'roll' together inwards.

Review 72:The staff were great, very friendly and accommodating. Below the rooms is the pub, which does superb food. There is a lovely courtyard at the back and they have live music playing with a lady singing rather well. There is parking out the back behind the courtyard and if space can park there. Otherwise there is a main carpark behind the hotel and this is free from 6 pm until 9 am. So all good, as we had a rather large van! The breakfast is superb. Wonderful tasty buffet full English breakfast. The room was ok in size with a nice view out to the courtyard below. The shower was large and modern. I would recommend this hotel but please note about the noise in the morning and the rather rolly bed!

Review 73:The bedroom was a bit shabby and could have done with a good clean, but the bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep.

Review 74:The fact it takes dogs, the food which was excellent and the very friendly and efficient staff.

Review 75:Good breakfast

Review 76:Poor shower that went cold, broken remote control and a bit noisey, broken lock

Review 77:Lovely welcome and brilliant food, dogs were made very welcome too

Review 78:nothing.

Review 79:The unique atmosphere The welcome The outstanding, home cooked food

Review 80:Comfortable bed good en suite good breakfast just right for one night.

Review 81:Friendly welcome, comfortable room, great central location. Good breakfast with strong coffee! Couldn't this time, but curry highly recommended.

Review 82:Weekend nights the pub patrons can get a bit noisy if you have a room that faces the street.

Review 83:Convenient to everything in the town center.

Review 84:Staff exceptionally friendly helpful and put themselves out for you.

Review 85:The hospitality, the location.

Review 86:Shabby and non too clean. In serious need of an update. Bathroom had mould and accommodation has a musty and dusty appearance.

Review 87:Location and staff

Review 88:Friendly staff good location. Lovely pint of Thatcher's cider

Review 89:The stairs and landing were in need of a good hoovering and the decor in the room looks a little tired.

Review 90:The location was excellent

Review 91:Noisy pub goers late at night.

Review 92:Weekend staff were very helpful and carried heavy suitcase upstairs. Excellent breakfast. Friendly owner.

Review 93:Very friendly staff, music on, relaxed and a great breakfast just what I wanted for Glastonbury festival

Review 94:Great entertainment on an evening, menus very good

Review 95:room was poor, a table in the room was unstable, definitely needs decorating and a good freshen up

Review 96:it was convenient location wise

Review 97:Grubby rug in room, no on site parking.

Review 98:Location, friendly staff, comfort of bed, super towel quality.

Review 99:noisy till 3 am

Review 100:Location. Big bathroom with a bath. Breakfast. Laid back ambience. Friendly staff.

Review 101:It could have been cleaner. We spotted several cobwebs.

Review 102:A fantastic warm and friendly place.great location & a perfect family room on 2 levels.
