Reviews for Bessemer Hotel
Review 1:Only complaint is that room was very hot despite it being 2deg C outside. Turned radiator completely off but still woke up sweating with sore throat
Review 2:Hotel easy to find and situated close to main part of town. Only 15mins drive to Brecon Beacons. Staff are all very friendly and happy to help. Breakfast was tasty and served quickly. Evening carvery also really good. Will stay again during next trip to Brecon Beacons
Review 3:We wanted to celebrate a surprise engagement, but the bar didn't have 'fizz' of any description sadly.
Review 4:The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was well decorated and well equipped. Very warm and welcoming in a Welsh winter. The food in the restaurant was superb.
Review 5:we had a little trouble finding the hotel -- probably our poor navigation but it is a bit out of the way
Review 6:surprisingly clean, spacious, comfortable accommodation.
Review 7:I had /have never been to Wales in my life ,I was told of unfriendly people and attitude . I can only say that I was overwhelmed by the friendliness of the Hotel staff
Review 8:Staff clearly not interested in non local guests. Didn't make us feel welcome. No smiles. No friendly vibe.
Review 9:The hotel was fine, room ok, facilities ok.
Review 10:The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was good and the service excellent. We will definitely use this hotel again.
Review 11:The breakfast was good but it could have been improved with the addition of a choice of fruit. Even if tinned apricots/peach halfs or bowl of prunes.
Review 12:The Carvery. The Staff. The Location. The evening customers!
Review 13:Breakfast sausages could do with an upgrade in quality. Not the easiest hotel to find. It is astonishing to be told that, with all the useless signs competing for our attention on the roads today, the hotel is not allowed to put up a sign directing guests to the hotel but they are allowed to sponsor a nearby roundabout. The Bessemer Hotel is near the Bessemer roundabout folks. Councils eh !
Review 14:Nice comfy room with plenty of space. Friendly staff.
Review 15:Although I couldn't hear voices or the TV from the next door bedrooms, their footsteps could be heard very easily (probably they could hear mine)
Review 16:Friendly staff and great food, very good location for the Brecon Beacons
Review 17:Nothing at all.
Review 18:A friendly, clean, comfortable hotel. Food was excellent along with the staff. We have stayed in a lot of hotels, most a lot more expensive, the Bessimer exceeded this!!!
Review 19:Friendly, helpful staff. Made to feel welcome. Lovely spacious, clean room. Breakfast was amazing, and once again friendly, cheerful staff, who made the stay a pleasure. Will certainly be booking up again.
Review 20:Although stayed three nights and on first morning they knew we were vegetarian and would have liked mushrooms with the baked beans on toast no thought to go buy some. No expense spared if you're into sausages and bacon.
Review 21:Friendly staff
Review 22:The squeaky floors in the room next door to ours - room 210 I think as we were 209. We could hear quite plainly every footstep.
Review 23:Good clean hotel with lovely restaurant & helpful friendly staff
Review 24:Very dated decor. Minute TV. Thick blanket on bed in July. Tiny room with creaky flooring. Hair in bath. Bathroom smelled of urine and fan was continuously running. Very odd dining experience (pressing a button to call waiting staff).
Review 25:Wifi worked well. Relatively cheap.
Review 26:The double bed was extremely uncomfortable. We only slept because we were exhausted. Very bad back afterwards.
Review 27:The friendly and helpful staff. The cleanliness of the room.
Review 28:Rooms not sound proof - can hear a pin drop. Saturday music travels into the room - quite disturbing
Review 29:Reception staff friendly and welcoming. Clean and comfortable rooms
Review 30:Average English breakfast We could easily hear the noise from the room above us, I mean when the were walking the floor was making noise to a level woke us up
Review 31:the location, size of the room, cleanliness
Review 32:Odd location, hotel located in the middle of a housing estate, My room looked out to car park and the other houses' bedrooms. Whole hotel was very depressing, outdated decor, plastic shower curtain. Breakfast room divided into sections with dark wood dividers. Very claustrophobic. Needs a complete makeover.
Review 33:Room service very prompt. Clean rooms and public areas. Good basic hotel with no frills.
Review 34:All good
Review 35:Staff reponded quickly and positevly to our rrequest to move rooms as the initial room was above the kitchen. Staff were very helpful and cheerful Excellent value for money.
Review 36:Hard to find as they are not allowed to put up signage after the roundabout. Previously stayed and forgot how noisy it is on a Saturday night. Struggled to get in room on both occasions as door key card wouldn't work.
Review 37:Good breakfast. Comfortable room.
Review 38:Although it is in the middle of a housing development, the hotel is better than it may appear at first. Don't be put off!
Review 39:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was well equipped with comfortable bed. Only stayed for one night as going to a wedding. There was a wedding party going on but it did not disturb us. Breakfast was good, again staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 40:Nothing really, just a bit of noise from the car park, someone leaning on a car horn for a few minutes, but a call to reception got a response and it was sorted.
Review 41:Very accommodating re. Early breakfast as we had to be at the eisteddfod early. Very comfortable room and ensure.
Review 42:Breakfast was minimal, I think I was either the only person, or one of a few staying that night and it felt like the staff begrudged having to wait for me to come down to breakfast. There was a wedding on the Sat night, I asked for a room away from the noise but could still hear every word and feel the bass through the floor!
Review 43:The room was nice, hotel was easy to find and had plenty of parking.
Review 44:The staff were lovely, but that's the only good thing I can say. The bed was so uncomfortable we only managed a couple of hours sleep!! Never again. Sorry to the staff.
Review 45:The staff were lovely, but that's the only good thing I can say.
Review 46:we did find the continental breakfast was abit limited but the full English was perfect.
Review 47:we were very lucky and found when we arrived we had been upgraded. The staff were very helpful, the food was fantastic and the bed was comfortable what more do you need.
Review 48:The fact we were not advised that a party would be going on as thefunction room is directly below all the bedrooms. This went on until12am then there was banging of doors when people were returning to theirrooms plus banging of tables and chairs from the function room as theytidied away. You can hear everything going on in the hotel rooms!!
Review 49:The hotel was clean.
Review 50:I was lucky enough to be given the Honeymoon Suite complete with sunken bath and jacuzzi. Self service breakfast is not my preference, however, the food was continually topped up with freshly cooked.
Review 51:Toilets in lobby didn't flash properly. I think it needs repair.
Review 52:Breakfast was so good. A guy assistant helped us to find a taxi, he called to many taxi companies. He was nice.
Review 53:Couldn't get the WiFi to work, although it didn't bother me since I was going out anyway, but could have easily asked them to help me out with it.
Review 54:Stayed at this hotel for one night. When I booked, only one room was left, so I was hoping I'd get what I asked for (twin beds), so was happy to walk into my room with one single bed and one double bed. The staff were very friendly and were helpful when I asked about a particular location in the town, to which they gave me directions to get there. As other reviews have said, the floorboards were creaky but if that's the only issue, then I was fine with that. I liked that the gates to the car parks were locked at night (once everyone was in of course) for added security. The car park at the back is large. Although the front car park was much smaller, I still managed to park there late at night. Having never been to Merthyr previously, the hotel was easy to find, and was also signposted through the town. Breakfast was pretty standard but good quality; continental and fried breakfast. As a vegetarian, I was happy with the choice available, and was glad it was a buffet breakfast so I could help myself to all the veggie options without having to ask for no meat. Shower was good and powerful. Very central to the town. Only took max 5 minutes to get the retail park/leisure centre by car. Didn't hear anyone in other rooms at night, so got a good night sleep. Good value for money for 2 travellers and free optional breakfast. Would stay here again and recommend.
Review 55:Stayed on a Saturday. No warning on book-in that there was a band playing directly under our room. Finally stopped at midnight. Creaky floors meant that every step the person in the room next door took was audible in ours.
Review 56:Good meals
Review 57:Sign in room saying register with BT cloud using your credit card to use wifi, very dated like an old peoples homeand terrible bed/pillows, no hot water in the afternoon.
Review 58:Squeeky floor boards... why put all residents next to each other when there were very few staying? I was often woke up during the night. Hotel a little old fashioned, so price should be lower to attract overnighters. Please get rid of Elton john at meal times... you must have more than one c.d?
Review 59:Quiet area, Large modern room, good selection for evening meal... loved the carvery.. Fast Wi-Fi in room.
Review 60:Just stayed for two nights, staff were very friendly and helpful. I had asked for a special room and a bottle of champagne in our room as it was my wife's birthday...room 214 was stunning and the champagne was nicely chilled, many thanks to all the staff
Review 61:A wonderful view over the valley below, excellent car park, friendly staff, restaurant served a carvery even on a Tuesday night and was very popular with local people. A bubbly and warm atmosphere. We will go back whenever we have to take our dog to Royvon kennels. A real gem and 5 mins from the kennels!
Review 62:We only used the hotel to sleep really but evrything was fine apart from walls are very thin and there was as private function til 1 o clock very noisy. the breakfast was very hit and miss to get the whole fried breakfast as there was continually something missing waiting to be cooked.
Review 63:twin beds could do with renewing but not bad for price
Review 64:great value basic but comfortable room.lovely spotless bathroom..great value breakfast and friendly staff
Review 65:Food was not great
Review 66:The staff were very helpful. Let me store 2 expensive bikes securely and even let me change a tyre. Would definately book again for bike park wales.
Review 67:if you didnt want a cavery or grill there was nothing else to eat. smaller snacks etc would have been goods i.e. jacket spuds. toasty sandwiches etc glass of win expensive for size
Review 68:The Cavery was a great facility Breakfast was good enough parking friendly staff
Review 69:Walls and floors very thin so sound travels and you can hear people walking along the corridor or moving around in the next room.
Review 70:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Nice food in the restaurant.
Review 71:I cannot recall anything I did not like.
Review 72:Liked the staff who were very friendly. The carvery was excellent so was the breakfast. The hotel in the evenings has a nice family atmosphere with people enjoying themselves. Always somewhere to park the car and an excellent location for the Brecon Beacons.
Review 73:Parking was a bit tight, there was obviously a private function going on that evening so could not park to begin with and had to move the car gone 11pm. and then managed to squeeze in between two vans.
Review 74:Very easy to find, very friendly staff ideal being able to get an evening meal and a drink without leaving the hotel.
Review 75:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was extremely good value for money and of a high standard. A very comfortable bed and a clean room with smart decor. Bar prices were very fair considering it was a hotel. An excellent location in which to explore the beautiful Brecon Beacons nearby. An extremely enjoyable experience all round and I would have absolutely no hesitation in staying at the Bessemer hotel again or recommending it to my friends and family.
Review 76:Noise from other guests mainly due to doors slamming shut because they don't have silencers on them. Was woken up at 4 am by inconsiderate guests who were talking at the top of their voices and slamming door numerous times. The bath had no bath mat which when you have a bad back is very necessary to avoid slipping. Also no hand rails.
Review 77:Room was good size with new bathroom and great shower. Restaurant was very good with individual cubicles and thought the bell system was great. Staff very helpful and very well organised management of the hotel in general.
Review 78:It was difficult to find despite satnav. Unmanned reception on arrival so hard to get in and get attention. Decor of the bar and breakfast area not welcoming.
Review 79:Friendly staff. Large, comfortable room. Located safely away from traffic jams.
Review 80:One of the main reasons for choosing this hotel was the propsect of being able to get a hot meal on arrival at the advertised carvery or grill. However there were no restaurant facilities available on arrival on a Sunday evening about 7pm. I was told that the restaurant closed at 6pm. This information was not provided on any details of the hotel on accomodation search websites. The guest information in the room suggested that meals were available up to 9pm. The hotel was not situated close to any alternative restaurants.
Review 81:Booked this hotel and turned up within 3 hours. It was 22.00 hours when we arrived and the staff friendly and gave our key and we went to our room. The room was large and clean. There was a lost of space to put bags and hang clothing. There were tea and coffee with kettle and a hair dryer. There was a trouser press also and TV. Bathroom has is very nice with large head shower. The breakfast was included in the room and this was very nice and eggs cooked to order. Overall it was a nice hotel and worth the money and located near to Brecon Beacons for walking.
Review 82:There was not anything to complain about realy we were more than happy,!
Review 83:The hotel is just off the heads of the valleys road & realy easy to find. The brecon mountain rail road is just about 2 miles up the road. Our room was clean & of a good standard check in was smooth & we were allowed to check in early as we had to be at the church by 2:30. We had a fulll breakfast on Sunday morning wich was of a good standard & well presented.
Review 84:Combination of thin walls & squeaky floorboards meant I could hear every footstep from the next room. Not a big selection of places to eat within walking distance: Chinese takeaway and (good) Indian restaurant.
Review 85:Friendly staff, quiet area, clean, location easily accessible by car (though about 2 miles from centre of Merthyr Tydfil)
Review 86:Stayed with my partner and 2 young children. Good value for money, great food and very welcoming staff. Both kids slept through the night, which rarely happens at home!
Review 87:No negatives at all.
Review 88:All the staff are friendly, very helpful and I felt at ease from day one. The food was very good and plentiful. The rooms clean and linen fresh and crispy.
Review 89:The location appeared to be on a housing estate. Having said this did not have time to explore the area fully. The doors on the bedrooms are very heavy and tend to bang shut.
Review 90:This hotel is excellent value for money. Clean and very comfortable. Good food and facilities. Would highly recommend it.
Review 91:Squeaky floorboards and beds. Noise from next doors TV could be heard.
Review 92:Responded quickly to problems, when I got in the bath, after about ten minutes the floor flooded, they staff where straight up to clear the water and by next evening the plumber had been to fix it. Excellent carvery.
Review 93:Fairly noisy until after midnight when wedding party finished. Party rapidly dispersed and quiet thereafter
Review 94:Good breakfast, clean and well appointed rooms, free wifi
Review 95:Breakfast was cooked well and kept piping hot.My only gripe is I would`ve liked my egg to have been freshly cooked to order.
Review 96:The friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the hotel and the comfort of the room.
Review 97:Was made most welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Clean, spacious and modern Hotel. A top notch breakfast to start the day with, was included in the price
Review 98:The side of the bath was too high and no hand rail was provided. Not a problem for us but older people could find it difficult. Continental breakfast was poor.
Review 99:Good location. Management and desk staff were very helpful.
Review 100:Although staff were quite helpful, on three occasions within a couple of hours the desk was unmanned and I had to look around for someone for help. @£65 for the night in this area I did expect a bit more finesse. From rear car park you got to entrance through smoking area, this is not something I looked being a non smoker.
Review 101:Clean, (dust on top of wardrobes though). Quiet during the night. The breakfast was cooked to order and was good quality.
Review 102:Hotel is worth the money for comfort and location.
Review 103:Excellent value for money, very easy, brilliant staff
Review 104:Comfortable and cosy. Also very nostalgic for me - I was born and bred in those streets. It was where I spent a very happy childhood.
Review 105:Friendly staff, very helpful
Review 106:Room smelt of smoker's. Towels bedding
Review 107:In house food.
Review 108:Nothing
Review 109:Friendly staff and very welcoming. Nice food.
Review 110:Staff where very helpful and always cheerful.
Review 111:had room above disco for a wedding no sleep till after midnight
Review 112:Friendly staff, good meals,
Review 113:The blonde girl behind the bar needs to learn how to smile.
Review 114:Quiet, comfortable room
Review 115:Poor tv signal, creaky floorboards
Review 116:Comfy Bed, tasty-breakfast, hot shower, roomy
Review 117:Great hotel lovely staff food brill will be staying there again
Review 118:Bed was a bit soft for our liking.
Review 119:Staff very friendly, good food.
Review 120:Friendly helpful staff
Review 121:Lighting at bedside
Review 122:Staff could not have been more accomodating or cheerful. Very welcoming hotel
Review 123:Difficult to find. TV was a bit unreliable and small.
Review 124:Convenient for Brecon Beacons National park
Review 125:It's a bit isolated.
Review 126:Friendly staff, nice breakfast.
Review 127:Staff very pleasant and helpful.Bright airycomfortable rooms. Well appointed good clean bathroom/shower.
