Reviews for Best Western Clifton Hotel

Review 1:I WAS REGISTERED FOR A TWO DAY STAY --NO ONE MADE UP MY ROOM NOR CLEANED AFTER THE FIRST NIGHT!!!! I HAD TO REQUEST CLEAN TOWELS, ETC. THAT SMOKEY SMELL FROM THE FIRE LINGERS ON - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!

Review 2:THE RESTAURANT IS WELL RUN. THE MAN IN CHARGE IS CONSCIENTIOUS, KNOWS HOW TO RUN A RESTAURANT AND WORKS WELL WITH HIS STAFF. CARES ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS. A GOOD VIEW AND A REALLY GOOD BREAKFAST.

Review 3:I was not happy about the window frame banging loudly all night, due to the high winds. At first I thought it was something to do with the roof of the hotel but it was the bay window in my room. It was so bad during the night that it woke me - I thought someone was hammering on the door! Also, when we arrived I was told that the hotel had a booking for only one room, fortunately I had the printed receipt from Booking.com to show I had booked two twin rooms!

Review 4:I like the location of the hotel and that is why I choose to stay there. It's convenient for the High street and shops and Harvey's bar, which we like. We did not dine in the hotel this year so I cannot comment on the food. My room was very clean and comfortable.

Review 5:The windows were draughty in the room. The breakfast orange juice was watered down, and the continental breakfast had very little choice.

Review 6:The staff were very helpful and the location is very good.

Review 7:TV not working. It was discovered that there was no power in the sockets. This was soon fixed. Didn't like the rather cramped layout of the single room. (Previous visit - very comfortable room)

Review 8:Helpful and friendly staff

Review 9:Room and hotel in general was very hot and stuffy even for November plug sockets where slightly dodgy and was hard to find a parking space even when payed.

Review 10:Nice friendly staff and comfy bed room was very clean and smart bathroom

Review 11:surly breakfast staff, little grasp of the English language. cobwebs hanging from smoke detector in our room, (345) vastly overpriced breakfasts with no menu to view.

Review 12:location

Review 13:The cleanliness of the hotel is very poor. Even the entrance, which is the first impression is dirty and full of spider webs.

Review 14:The location is a very nice one.

Review 15:The room... Bed very uncomfortable & bathroom dirty and when I say dirty, the ceiling was leaking water and by the staining had been for some time. Shower head dirty

Review 16:Food in restaurant & breakfast very good. Staff very polite.

Review 17:I thought there could of been more choice of fresh fruit salad for breakfast the croissant s were hard. Also the waiter didn't offer us a menu at breakfast so we ordered and missed out on some things. Wouldn't mind but breakfast was quite expensive. Heated patio heaters would be a good idea for outside and cushions for seat is outside.

Review 18:I loved the decor and the lounge and bar area. The beds were very comfy. It was clean with lots of space great shower fantastic location The dining area was especially nice lovely decor and attractive bright curtains

Review 19:Very good location for our trip to France the next day. These are old fashioned hotels, so do not expect a Hilton like experience. Opposite a surprisingly nice beach and promenade. We had dinner and a first class breakfast at the nearby Grand Hotel. Which I would recommend doing.

Review 20:Although we didn't have breakfast, we think that £10 for it is quite too much.

Review 21:Excellent location in Folkestone, directly on Leas with an excellent view of the sea. We were quite lucky as our room had a magnificent view. The hotel style itself as quite nice; old but well maintained. It's within walking distance of the beach (via use of lift). Not far from city centre (if you prefer long walks). Very friendly staff that even offered to show us around the hotel.

Review 22:The whole place was a rabbit warren with only one lift and could do with a makeover.

Review 23:The staff were friendly and efficient and the location lovely though not on the front. The hotel had tired grandeur.

Review 24:Parking is street parking on a meter. Room still had personal items from previous occupant(s). A bit expensive for what it was. Should have been a breakfast inclusive price

Review 25:Good location. Friends and helpful staff

Review 26:Very small room in need of renovation lumpy bed, bathroom very small water not very warm W-Lan worked but NO internet in the room Paid for parking but as no space free I had to park on double yellow line.

Review 27:Our booking was last minute for travelling to France and did not research the property. Everything we experienced was more than we expected. The location, the room and the facilities were excellent especially for the price.

Review 28:I arrived at the hotel on Saturday 15th August after a long ride from Munster in Germany. I ate at the hotel, having the steak. Next morning I had coffee and muesli for my breakfast. On the ride home to Weston super Mare I began to feel unwell. By the time I got home I had full blown diarrhoea which has persisted until today. Having just travelled trouble free all round Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic States and Europe, it is most disappointing to be zapped on my return to England. I trust you will compensate me for the extreme discomfort, and inconvenience I have suffered.

Review 29:Shame that the staff were a bit grumpy. And the breakfast was far to expensive at £10.50 per person

Review 30:The location was good the hotel was good. Shame that the staff were a bit grumpy and the br

Review 31:The breakfast took a long time to come and we thought it was overpriced for what you got.

Review 32:The hotel is in a good position, the bedroom is comfortable and the bathroom clean & tidy.

Review 33:Water for shower was somewhat temperamental as was Internet connection.

Review 34:Great location, friendly helpful staff. A lot of history in the building itself.

Review 35:Firstly, I was awoken by the feeling of something crawling on me. Shot out of bed to discover an inch long cockroach in the bed. I managed to capture and gave to reception on checking out. They did however refund the room cost. The shower was tepid and kept cutting out. The cooked breakfast was very greasy and not fantastic quality.

Review 36:Checking out. Staff were friendly.

Review 37:Disturbing noises (Water pump?) in the late evening and in the morning. Not much options taking a continental breakfast (fresh fruits, sorts of bread / cheese / cold cuts / juices etc.)

Review 38:Nice Rooms. Gentle service.

Review 39:Perfect location for Leas Cliff Hall. Really clean, helpful staff and absolutely fantastic sea view. Really happy, will definitely go back and have already recommended to friends.

Review 40:My critism of the bed is that a 10.5 tog duvet in warm weather was too hot and I could have slept better with a softer pillow.

Review 41:The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. The whole atmosphere of the Clifton was relaxing.

Review 42:The room was not very clean, we had no help with bags, lift was tiny, no parking despite saying on website it would be no problem, milk in room was off

Review 43:Convenient for channel tunnel, food surprisingly good, elder gentleman at desk on arrivals helpful and empathetic; junior manager not at all......

Review 44:The hotel is very dated and tired, the room was tiny and the shower poor. It really needs upgrading.

Review 45:Excellent staff, very efficient and friendly. Good location.

Review 46:Staff a little glum and the 1£ parking fee unnecessary.

Review 47:Great location as we have a small dog and there are good local walks. Room was clean and the hotel quiet.

Review 48:breakfast was slow - although busy, other people were complaining about delays - would have been better if tea/coffee offered straight away rather than 20 mins when cooked breakfast arriving also.....only gripe

Review 49:staff very friendly - room clean and comfortable

Review 50:Bar closed at 11.00 on a Friday night. Room (top floor) rather hot (but it was a very hot day).

Review 51:Staff pleasant and helpful. Room clean and comfortable. Pricing attractive.

Review 52:lack of parking facilities (we were able to park for free just round the corner though, so it wasn't a big problem for us)

Review 53:Great location, nice views over garden or to the sea, nice spacious room, nice bathroom with new good showers, very helpful staff

Review 54:Breakfast was too expensive. It would have been good to inform guests before they arrive by car that a parking ticket can be purchased at the hotel for 1 GBP for 24 hours.

Review 55:The location was perfect for our trip. Easy access to the town centre or the pebbled beach and the harbour area. The rooms were simple but comfortable.

Review 56:We didn't seem to be on the right schedule to make most use of the facilities. We were too late on a Saturday night to order at the bar (9:30 pm) and too early on a Sunday morning to eat breakfast (7:00 am).

Review 57:The walk along the foreshore in both directions is lovely and the room was very comfortable and learn.

Review 58:The reverse side of the coin is that this large hotel has certainly seen better days as, in fact, has Folkestone. I don't think we'll be returning.

Review 59:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is great for the Tunnel and also on the seafront a short walk from the town centre. The room itself was very good, although the en-suite bathroom was a bit tired. Street parking outside (hotel provides a permit) but ok.

Review 60:Booked pet friendly but it's not true. Room only so had to buy a sandwich out after travelling and could not breakfast before continental travel next day. Misrepresentatation of the description "pet friendly"

Review 61:Clean.

Review 62:The staff was very friendly and always helping out with anything you needed. The hotel is in a very old building so don't expect brand new but was a nice place and well kept.

Review 63:Pillows! So thin & uncomfortable. Windows rattled - manager needs to sleep in some of the third floor rooms.

Review 64:The efficient reception staff and interesting restaurant staff made a lone traveller feel welcome.

Review 65:The pillows on the bed were like lumps of steel. Could not get comfortable.

Review 66:Hotel and staff. Food good. Bar very comfortable. Nice to see locals in.friendly

Review 67:We got nabbed for parking ticket due parking being told free night before by council staff .. also, hotel didn't tell us there was a discount voucher for parking in front of hotel .. its saves £2 for 24 hours, so minor, but a detail we should have been told about. Beds (2 singles due last room available) were very narrow.

Review 68:Location - you can get to the sea front gardens directly from the hotel. These gardens have been restored beautifully by the council, and are a calm and relaxing place to stroll, and just "be". Staff were generally very helpful and friendly.

Review 69:I had a problem with the sewage down pipe from the rest of the hotel which came down in the corner of my bathroom right behind the bed head, water flowing most of the night kept me awake. have advised the hotel of this and they have changed my room for my stay with them this coming August.

Review 70:The fact that the bar isn't open at lunchtime in the week!

Review 71:The lovely, quiet and comfortable room, the food and the civilised bar with Bass on hand pump. Don't change a thing

Review 72:I've stayed in better hotels where you get quality, quantity, friendliness, soft towels , no gone off milk, and better wash facilities for less money!

Review 73:Location

Review 74:Average cooked breakfast, as dire as could be but charged at £10... noise from outside (nightclub on other side of road), rest of hotel a bit grotty

Review 75:Nice, clean and big room, nice bed etc

Review 76:The photo of the hotel gives the impression of a pristine building, but when seeing it in reality it is a yellowing building. I suppose don't judge a book by its cover.

Review 77:Room was small but comfortable and had character. We normally stay in quite expensive hotels so I wasn't expecting anything flash and it wasn't. But we had the most lovely stay. I felt like I'd been transported back in time and although that wouldn't usually be what I want from a hotel I just went with it. Staff are SO helpful, from those on reception, the waiters, bar staff and bell boy- a good team. We stayed for Sunday lunch. Lunch was nice but the atmosphere of the room and the guests stole the show, even a pianist in the corner and the vicar and his entourage, I felt like I was on the set of a Miss Marple episode. Obviously that won't happen every week. So in summery, yes the building is tired, yes the rooms are small, it isn't flash but it is very good value for money and staff are lovely, so soak up the atmosphere and go with it!

Review 78:Room was cold and the central heating inefficient requiring a supplementary heater. Shower was pretty ineffective

Review 79:Good Location and good breakfast and dinners

Review 80:The location to the town centre, station and bus transport are ideal, all within walking distance. The staff are well informed and very friendly. I try very hard to book into this hotel whenever down this way.

Review 81:The reviews were mixed but i was pleasantly surprised with hotel. Clean, worth 3* s and rather splendid in its own right. Beautiful views from cliff tops.

Review 82:Nothing. Liked it all and would always go there when in Folkestone.

Review 83:Cosy, spacious room with a wonderful sea view. Tea making facilities. Pleasant and polite staff. Easy parking arrangements just outside. Especially comforting after 4 days in a very spartan Dutch hotel - it felt very English and old fashioned in a good way.

Review 84:Rattling sash windows and not a good shower. Slightly sirly staff on some shifts.

Review 85:Value for money, good location and the general quirkiness of the hotel. Very old fashioned and charming. Always book a top floor room, for views and no creaky floorboards above

Review 86:We ate in the restaurant and I felt the food was 'adequate' as opposed to 'good'. The prawn cocktail was all lettuce and tomato more than anything else and there was no sauce with the prawns and no brown bread and butter. Also the day we left my breakfast was cold but I didn't complain because I wasn't particularly hungry so didn't worry, however many people would not have been happy!

Review 87:I liked the comfort of the lounge - nice and quiet for reading and relaxing. The location suits us very well as close to pubs/restaurants. Bed comfortable and room a nice size. The staff were polite and helpful.

Review 88:no complaints really

Review 89:cosy bar ... quiet and nice location near seaside and town shops.Hotel had parking facility for £1.00 per day opposite hotel in street car park.

Review 90:It needs a bit of modernising. Its a bit tired.

Review 91:The staff were very helpful and attentive. The location was great for our purpose giving us parking facility and good quick access to the centre of town which is within walking distance. The hotel is clean and comfortable

Review 92:It was more like a DSS flat than a hotel room. I am a Diamond card holder and the room I was given was absolutely disgusting. The place is shabby and smelt fusty. The staff are appalling, unwelcoming, not very friendly or helpful and their command of the English language was sadly lacking. The following night I stayed in the Hotel de Paris in Laval France, another Best Western and the staff in that hotel spoke better English!!! and were significantly more helpful and accommodating.

Review 93:Nothing

Review 94:Staff helpful and pleasantv. Though the information on the Web site stated there was " NO PARKING" in fact for a £1 the hotel provides a resident parking card which allows for street parking (plentiful spaces) from 12 noon to 12 noon the next day.

Review 95:Hotel Computer in freezing cold room and problems with keyboard that hotel staff member could not solve even though he tried very hard.Carpets in hallways smell very musty.

Review 96:Very helpful staff..Location is lovely.

Review 97:The bathroom was a lovely size but could do with a make over, the flooring was quite shabby, and the walls need a fresh lick of paint. We also could hear the people in the room above us when they walked across the floor, and when they turned the bath water on it sounded like a waterfall was cascading into our room, however, this would not stop us from staying here again. In fact we have stayed here before and the room we had was lovely but we couldn't remember the number otherwise we would have requested the same room again.

Review 98:without asking we were upgraded to a sea view room. The drinks in the bar were very reasonably priced. All the staff were very polite and friendly, and the Hotel is in a lovely location.

Review 99:Bedrooms seemed very warm, especially the attick rooms.

Review 100:Lovely friendly staff especially Maria. In the bar, good breakfasts cooked very well, good weather!

Review 101:It was smelly nr lift.... Damp which will be a prob in the future I believe... needs refurb.

Review 102:It was in an ideal position and the Romanian Staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 103:Shower over bath had no effective pressure -perhaps because on third floor? Would have been impossible to wash my long hair if I had wanted to.

Review 104:Convenient location

Review 105:The décor is old fashioned and directions not very good for getting around the hotel. The Fire escape stairs were shocking, with difficult steps, handrails not all the way down and not directed properly. The lift only held four adults at a squash and no room for suitcases. whilst checking out we waited for ten or more minutes for the lift and were aware that the same people were going up and down past us unable to get out! Rather alarming. My husband and friend ( elderly) had to carry our cases all the way down eventually as no way of alerting the reception.(from 3rd floor) NOT very good.

Review 106:The staff were very pleasant and efficient. The Maitre'd in the breakfast restaurant was particularly helpful and found exactly the table we requested, at the window.

Review 107:Staff-shorts. Just to collect my keys from the receptions after a short walk outside, I had to wait 15 minutes at the desk.

Review 108:When I drew the curtains of my room, I saw sea only. It was so romantic. In the night, I saw the other side of the coast, saw the light in France been lit. The town itself is so clean and quiet. No crime. I would definitely do this again.

Review 109:Lift a little slow, small, and old. Attic bedroom 437 much too hot even with fan on.

Review 110:Good food, very comfortable rooms, friendly staff, Maria behind the bar was a delight with her cheerful friendly disposition , nice bar meals and reasonable prices, would stay again.

Review 111:The bathroom could have been bigger and could with updating.

Review 112:The hotel was great value for money. The was great and bed was very comfortable. Paid extra for breakfast and it was worth it lovely breakfast.

Review 113:The breakfast was not up to standard. I have recently stayed in the Best Western Argyll hotel in dunoon and their breakfast was excellent. Maybe a visit from the appropriate chefs or managers would help.I do not like being told my minimum characters should be 200.You asked me to do this. Am I back in school doing a punishment ?

Review 114:Its location is excellent.I originate from this town and there is no better location.

Review 115:Parking in proximity of hotel sometimes a problem. Hotel was as hot as a sauna. Lift too small and claustrophobic for me.

Review 116:the location was good. Period hotel full of character. Helpful staff. Good value for money. Nice view over garden and sea.

Review 117:Hotel feels generally dated. Needs modernisation as next time I would use a more modern hotel as the price difference was not that big.

Review 118:Good location, cheap parking offered, big en suite, clean room and good sizes room and bathroom, good tv, wifi reliable.

Review 119:The whole place was tired and badly in need of complete refurbishment. The whole fabric of the hotel was not up to the standards one expects from a Best Western. Breakfast was good but expensive.

Review 120:The staff were friendly and helpful and it was clean. Good location.

Review 121:There is a pub across the road which is noisy on Friday nights.

Review 122:Clean room and I had a sea view. Staff were friendly when I needed taxis. Was able to change my booking easily.

Review 123:a bit outdated

Review 124:excellent location and parking facilities in front of hotel, great breakfast, nice terrace, walking distance from centre, free wifi (but a bit slow)

Review 125:Nothing really, we were there for two days, and ate out.

Review 126:The hotel was an old building and was authentic and had character. Our room was on the fourth floor and so lots of opportunity to walk up stairs for exercise if you did not want to use the lift.

Review 127:Pavement outside needed regular cleaning. Breakfast food was poor quality including yogurts which had sugar as main ingredient, bread was standard sliced and coffee was weak. The evening meal took 1 hr. to serve as food ran out and some items were unavailable.

Review 128:The staff were excellent It was clean Guest lounge was v.good. Excellent location

Review 129:Very poor shower and dated room decor, poor choice of drinks and dated meal choice. Poorly trained staff and lack of attention to detail.

Review 130:Staff friendly

Review 131:Parking is non existent!! Had to leave car on a street a short distance away and walk in the dark to the hotel. Had I not been leaving very early I would have had to get up and move the car!! Put in a single room at the top of the building that was like an oven!! The heat hit you as you opened the door. I was moved to a better room that was a bit cooler, but no air con!!

Review 132:Comfort of room that I was moved to

Review 133:the noisy restaurant over the road, a shocker, plus a drunk patron coined our rental car bonnet, and possibly others facing the sea...

Review 134:a bath, good sized room, situation as in views

Review 135:Reception unable to find booking, despite email confirmation. Lack of parking. Right by pub/club

Review 136:Old fashioned bathroom, but plenty of hot water .Good breakfast

Review 137:Some things could do with modernising especially the showers which were poor. Breakfast was a bit expensive.

Review 138:The location is wonderful, lots of the rooms have gorgeous sea views. The hotel has some lovely original features and has a nice cosy feel. It has character!

Review 139:There was a lot of confusion over car parking facilities with conflicting instructions by Reception!

Review 140:Loved the location, the room was nice and airy and well furnished. Next visit we will eat in the restaurant - recommended by several fellow guests.
