Reviews for Dovedale Hotel and Restaurant
Review 1:hotel staff took over on dance floor new years eve last couple of hours not a nice thing for paying guests who wanted music played but DJ was only playing music for staff
Review 2:nice comfortable hotel and decor ,friendly staff, nice room, new years eve dinner was very good
Review 3:Our room was above the kitchen which is not good as I got woken up at 630 with them banging about.it felt like they where in our room with us.it carried on till we got up at 9, so not what I wanted on a Sunday morning.
Review 4:Staff were very busy with Christmas party dining and we felt a little ignored! Also had to use exterior door due to dining table blocking our way inside, and it was very wet and windy!
Review 5:Good location, nice breakfast, well equipped.
Review 6:Found our room outside the hotel felt like we were in a shed! Room was tiny plaster showing on walls . Staff rolling barrels past door at 7 in morning kitchen staff banging pots n cutlery about. Drunks next door banging on door.
Review 7:Location was handy bar area nice
Review 8:Doverdale is a lovely place to stay. The room was very clean and had everything you need. Iron and ironing board. TV .tea making facilities etc. The breakfasts were delicious as we're the steaks we had. Excellent service from all staff. Would highly recommend Doverdale and hope to stay again in the near future.
Review 9:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.staff were very friendly and helpful ,food was excellent and we would definitely would recommend to family and friends ?
Review 10:Went to the restaurant for dinner and it was nice but not as nice as I expected. Also, they didn't replenish my biscuits - 2 biscuits to last 5 days is quite frankly ludicrous.
Review 11:Massive television, nice new clean room. Breakfast was nice
Review 12:Inadequate car parking. It was difficult to drop my wife at the door. She has had a recent knee replacement and finds it difficult to walk very far.
Review 13:The location was excellent. Reception was efficient. The breakfast was varied and most acceptable.
Review 14:Some reviewers had complained about the smell in their rooms, and I found in my room hung a whiff of probably some cleaning agent or something like that. Though I did not find it very bothering.
Review 15:Wifi worked very well. Good location. Very nice staff.
Review 16:Noise room above. Horrible bathroom, toilet grotty. Tired and small room. Extremely overpriced. Very disappointing.
Review 17:Clean and comfy beds, plenty of towels, free Wi-Fi.
Review 18:The bedroom decor was tatty and outdated. The chairs were faded, bed frame marked and rickety and bathroom whilst very clean looked dingy and in desperate need of updating.
Review 19:The staff were amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble and they were always smiling and very friendly.
Review 20:The room although newly renovated was in a house in a road behind the hotel in what was once a garden extension with piles of rubbish in the garden. The door had to be slammed in order to close it which would have disturbed other guests.
Review 21:The room was nicely decorated and comfortable.
Review 22:Very sorry but the mattress on the bed was awful, the only thing to let the stay down.
Review 23:Lovely hotel situated close to the beach, room was beautiful with balcony and jacuzzi bath.
Review 24:our stay was great apart from a resident who woke us up in the early hours of the morning shouting and swearing, we did complain and was told it would be delt with but it still happened the next night
Review 25:all the staff were excellent and breakfast was all good
Review 26:the staff are extremely friendly, they helped with directions, and the fact that we could leave our bag after check out to enjoy the rest of our day without carrying around a heavy bag was fantastic.... we will be making a return visit.
Review 27:Bed a small double and not long enough for my husband. Bedroom a bit small. Ok for a short stay
Review 28:Very good location for the promenade and shops. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Would have liked room with balcony
Review 29:The room we got first smelled really bad someone had been smoking in the room even though it's non smoking. Had not been deep cleaned. Even the room overall was not cleaned to a good standard. Dust everywhere. Our room got changed smelled a lot better but again the cleaning standard was awful. You could see dust everywhere and the bathroom was pretty dirty. There was a chair in the room and had rips in it. Why? Bed was too soft and matteress is old, worst nights sleep we've had in a hotel. TV there was an obvious black mark on the middle of the screen. When watching you could help stare at the mark. Breakfast was ok but there were cob webs in the restaurant. Dirty tables when you got there about 9.30am. Continental breakfast table was filthy and not bowls or cutlery. Also shame that we were turned away from having dinner in the restaurant Sunday night after arriving just after 7.30pm. Apparently last service was at 7.30pm.
Review 30:The location was good close to the beach and free parking. Prior to arrival requests were in the room on arrival. Thank you.
Review 31:Very tight staircases and as our family room was at the top of hotel carrying heavy luggage made things quite awkward.
Review 32:Excellent location very convenient for the beach.
Review 33:no drawers in bedroom and only 4 coat hangers for 2 of us, when I asked for more was told that's all we get.
Review 34:the hotel was good friendly staff food excellent, would go back and stay again.
Review 35:To charge 1.20 for a packet of crisps in the bar is ridiculous. It's day light robbery even the bar staff agreed.
Review 36:Everything the location The staff how friendly and helpful they were.
Review 37:The only downside was our room was over the exit to the kitchen and the staff didn't hold back with their language outside. My daughter is only 12 months old so not too much of a problem but wouldn't want her hearing it as she grows up.
Review 38:All staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a little small to have a travel cot in but there was still enough to move around and we spent most of the time on the sea front anyway. The breakfast wasn't outstanding but nothing wrong with it dinner on the other hand was lovely. So close to the sea front it got a little noisy at night but to be expected.
Review 39:I had used this hotel on two other occasions...but feel on my last visit I booked a room for two nights and was really short changed. I paid £79 per night for a room which was not as nice as the rooms I had before without breakfast as part of the package (I paid less money on two previous visits for a better room and breakfast served). Regardless of the fact the room was advertised as £79 per night without breakfast on booking.com, as a customer I still expected breakfast and a room which justified the payment of £79 per night. I will not be visiting again.
Review 40:Food was excellent both breakfast and main meals. Although no sea view the frontage is a large attractive and sunny outdoor area, very pleasant to eat and drink in. Don't have to check out 'til 12:00. Breakfast served 'til 10:00. Free wifi in all areas and comfortable rooms.
Review 41:didn't feel very welcomed by some staff members. Requested a single bed rather than a bunk bed for our 3 year old which they couldn't provide...this made our £94.05 1 night stay a waste as our little one couldn't settle.
Review 42:great location, fab breakfast
Review 43:Very noisy late at night, the outside seating area was directly below our room. The bedroom was very hot, no aircon but there was a small fan provided.
Review 44:Great location, just seconds away from the promenade. Very friendly and helpful staff. Superb food. Very clean.
Review 45:Room too hot. Shower was a dribble. Lady at breakfast was lovely but the rest of the staff need to learn to smile. I've stayed here twice now. In my opinion the hotel is overpriced for what you get. I won't be returning.
Review 46:Great Breakfast
Review 47:On the second night of our visit there were several people using the outdoor seating area. These people were making lots of noise, no one working in the hotel was on hand to ask these people to quieten down as this was occurring after 1am. We then heard someone in the room adjacent to our turn on their spa bath again after 2am in the morning. There were no instructions anywhere in our room stating that the spa bath should not be used after a certain time.
Review 48:The room was nice & clean the staff seemed friendly.
Review 49:Waited almost an hour for breakfast, not enough staff. Some areas of the room are looking very tired and repairs/painting is well overdue, which we think for the cost of the stay this would be more of a priority
Review 50:Location is good, and the off street parking is a nice to have.
Review 51:Need some maintenance in bathroom. Smell on back staircase. Very worn chairs in room and restaurant. Not a very friendly welcome, kept waiting after a VERY long journey. No safety matt in Bath or handle on wall to help you get in or out of shower/bath
Review 52:The bar area was nice, as was the outside space. Ladies who served breakfast were lovely, very friendly and cheerful.
Review 53:The noise from the kitchen extractor fan was unpleasant in our room but fortunately it was turned off at 11pm each night
Review 54:the location is great and the staff were very pleasant and helpful
Review 55:We returned to the hotel on Saturday evening at 9 pm expecting to eat in the restaurant unfortunately it was closed this impacted on our overall positive experience
Review 56:We ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening the food was excellent
Review 57:Where do I start ?? Through being a professional drummer I have beenvery fortunate to have stayed in countless hotels in England & allover the world for the last 30yrs.. This hotel was by far the worst!!!.. I kid you not people ! Well.. For our well spent £178.00 for 2nights this our experience.1).This hotel made my wife & me feel totally un-welcomed upon arrival. When checking in, the young lady at the desk couldn't or didn't even be bothered to explain where the restaurant/bar was, nor did she explain what time breakfast was being served or where the restaurant was, but instead passed us a small card & said "read that". She never even said "enjoy your stay" !!2). When my wife opened our "Superior Room" door, the first thing we immediately noticed was how pokey the room was. We also noticed the 4 poster bed that took up all the room had a huge stain on the side curtain.. not good at all. The radiator in the bathroom was covered in rust from top to bottom & looked like it needed replacing... immediately. No shower cap in the bathroom.. Yes, this might sound small issue, but this is the most basic protocol for good hotels.3).On the evening we ended up eating at Jamal's Curry house. The food was great & they were very good hosts, something we hoped Dovedale was.4). At breakfast my wife & me walked through to the restaurant, with a smile & hello mentioned to the lady could we would have breakfast, only for her to greet us with a " sit there". Not a hello,no smile..nothing.... just a "sit there". All this for £178.00 remember !!They lost me at that point !!To be fair to the chef the breakfast was good. When leaving the restaurant the lady who served us was talking to 3 other ladies around the front desk. Not one of them ask if we enjoyed our breakfast. We made a point of looking straight at them!!
Review 58:The bed is comfortable.Wi-Fi is good. And the beach is very close.
Review 59:lovely welcome, fabulous rooms great bar and staff reasonable prices all round good experience lovely on the leafy terrace will defo be going again. the beds were so comfy and the breakfast was really nice. we all loved it
Review 60:Last part of write up in like box.Heavy Urine stained mattress both sides, worn out carpeting .Not caring for the rest of the place could do much better and be talk of Cleethorpes as you to be.
Review 61:Front outside area was good but maybe that's to give a good impression to outside patronage, breakfast come dining area, was o.k and clean , But at £98.00 was a real let down to lay on a very urinated mattress both sides (photos taken) which smell as it was 2 warm days , My opinion is the owners have let them selves dwn by not caring for the rest of the hotel , bedrooms, landings, and worn carpets bedrooms and stairs .We had a standard room so tiny the wardrobe was a tiny broom cuboard, and shower we couldn't use it. Owners you need to get it sorted please check your mattresses !!!!!!
Review 62:As above and not enough towels provided for two people x
Review 63:As above and the gent running the hotel at night looked more like a guest, he was sat down drinking and treat us poorly. Morning ladies were brilliant x
Review 64:The bridal suite was quite tired, the bath area very tired and radiator rusty. I expected better wash products. Had to ask for sweet menu. Had to ask for the salad as this was forgotten with the meal.
Review 65:Evening meal was excellent, bar staff fun and friendly Breakfast was ok Towels very good and bedding clean Staff were very helpful, chatty friendly
Review 66:I paid 125 for honeymoon suit, four poster bed with jacuzzi, bed falling apart held together by shelf brackets and sheets of wood under the mattress, the bathroom was extremely tired and water damaged, the room was awful I went and complained and asked for a different room but they was fully booked they gave us a £20 discount, my husband was on leave from navy and we booked a night away, I wish we never bothered thanks to them our night was ruined. I would never call this a 5* hotel more like a 2* b&b with a restaurant.disgraceful.
Review 67:The seating tents outside and the location
Review 68:Television did not work so felt like we had to be put all the time for entertainment.
Review 69:Bar and restaurant good. Food lovely. Hotel overall a good one and would definately stop again.
Review 70:The taps were to short in the wash basin, parking could be a problem if you do not get there early
Review 71:Everything abut the hotel was nice. The staff were helpful and happy.
Review 72:The state of the bathroom was shocking light wouldn't work shower cord broke tiles lifting behind sink cracked tiles on the floor when approached staff they acted like they didn't care we go away a lot all over the country and Cleethorps is a favourite of ours but we would not stay here again
Review 73:Colour scheme
Review 74:Staff weren't really sure what to do when we first arrived - she didn't tell us any details about anything! Can't understand why you need to pay £3 supplement for a large breakfast if you've already got breakfast included.
Review 75:Comfy bed - being able to watch TV too, good wi-fi, easy access to bars (recommend barracuda £1.50 a pint!) and good breakfast!
Review 76:nothing
Review 77:staff,food ,room all good ,the place is nice and cosy would stop again thankyou all ,we went in march so bit cold and windy, will try in summer again
Review 78:Battered chairs need recovering or throwing. Customer service training for all staff so can all be consistent. some better than others
Review 79:Easy access to town centre, food ok, pleasant bar area, room clean
Review 80:A domestic quite a violent one in the room next to us, phone not working in our room, had to go down stairs to report it, twice the last being 2.15 in the morning. So this did make a very uncomfortable nights sleep. It has put us off going... carn't stop thinking that if our Grand Children had been with us to witness it would have no been very nice at all
Review 81:We have stayed there on our own, and also with our Grand Children, near the sea and other facilities, always enjoy.
Review 82:Front of house, bar area etc is good.
Review 83:This hotel is one of the more expensive in the area but is looking a little tired around the edges. Bannister is loose, taps are worn no chains on sink or bath plugs, tiles in bathrooms are dated and bath panels are blistering and need replacement and not just in one room.Could do with a bit of modernising in the bathrooms in general. Most bedroom furniture has cup rings on, and the four poster has had some curtain poles removed and no side curtains.all in all slightly dissapointed.
Review 84:Nothing to dislike at all great price nice staff excellent breakfast
Review 85:Lovely one night stay lovely room excellent breakfast great reception staff beautifully presented for Christmas had a lovely stay
Review 86:It was all fine. But if I had been staying with my partner more than one chair in our room would have been nice.
Review 87:Very friendly and polite staff. Ease of access from local railway station. Excellent free WiFi. Very good shower with straightforward temperature controls.
Review 88:Room basic and bathroom very very basic with peeling corners on bath edge.
Review 89:Staff extra helpful when teenage daughter didn't make breakfast on time.
Review 90:I think there was a plastic sheet on the bed
Review 91:Friendly and helpul staff and a good breakfast. We were on a tight schedule and allowed access to the room a bit early which was a god send.
Review 92:we only had a standard room but would have liked somewhere to sit other than the bed, we should have upgraded our room, this was offered at an extra price so that was our fault really
Review 93:Staff were excellent and very friendly, we only had bed & breakfast but the breakfast was excellent too
Review 94:Would have expected the coffee to be a bit stronger - especially from somewhere open to non-residents as a place to have a coffee - but, that's the only down side -
Review 95:Stylish room, balcony, bar area very nice/comfortable/welcoming - good English breakfast
Review 96:Not sure on fire safety in top room - did not feel safe immediately on the basis of a fire. Room numbering is random and no signs so hand to wonder around with baggage before finding the room. room was mostly clean but fittings old so in some places looked dirty especially in bathroom. light switch very dirty which made me squirm - looked forward to getting home to have a shower. No soap or conditioner provided and nowhere to purchase any (that I could see) liquid soap provided but the bottle looked so filthy that I didn't really want to touch it. For the price I would have been much happier in a premier inn. Drinks were expensive in the bar given location but my mistake for not checking before buying
Review 97:Food was good in the restaurant, wifi access good as free.
Review 98:Room was very small and at £99 I had expected better facilities . We thought expensive for Cleethorpes in October. Asked for a quiet room and were put over the car park.
Review 99:Good location near the sea front. Breakfast very quick and tasty.
Review 100:Reception staff 'twin room way to small loose banister not good when you need it for steep stairs. Charged for two nights when leaving not asked why .
Review 101:Food and waiting staff excellent
Review 102:The room was damp especially by the entrance door. The bathroom floor was dirty and the room smelled foisty.
Review 103:The location of the Hotel is quite good. The main Hotel was quite nice and tidy. The Restaurant was compact but the food and the staff were good
Review 104:Parking not as advertised, had it use public car park and be out by 8 am... Hard to get a booking in the restaurant, very busy....
Review 105:Room clean, staff helpful, restarant food excellent, good breakfast
Review 106:Our room didn't have a bath just a shower but I should have checked before booking , not really a problem just something I would have liked . The hotel was full or they would have moved us to another room with a bath,
Review 107:Very nice hotel close to amenities , food was good, room was modern looking and had everything you need, would defiantly stay there again
Review 108:The only thing wrong with the whole place was that the bed was very uncomfortable... We didnt get one good night sleep!!!
Review 109:The staff were waiting to great us as i had my guide dog with me. they were very welcoming. The food at the Hotel is highly recommended. The bar is great he outside seating area is spotlessly clean, (No sticky tables) Afternoon Tea was fabulous but i felt they could have provided a pot of coffee rather than just a cup as they had done so with the tea...
Review 110:Was offered upgrade room for first night of two, our std room was bit snug, but spotlessly clean and comfortable.
Review 111:Great staff, good breakfast cooked exactly as ordered.
Review 112:Room average aroma from kitchen wifi hit & miss
Review 113:The staff were friendly helpful all worked well as a team, location was great, food very good & reasonable price
Review 114:The hotel location was great and the food excellent, but the staff were not friendly, they all looked fed up and tired ,they were not helpful in the slightest, didn't even ask if we enjoyed our stay at check out and never even said hello to my small children, I was very surprised to not even get a good morning to us at the breakfast table. It's a shame as that put a dampener on out trip! I advised them that I'd noticed one of the banisters was not stable and they didn't seem to care! On the plus side the food was excellent and the location brilliant. But a shame we will not be returning purely based on the fact that the staff were so unfriendly.
Review 115:Location brilliant hotel nice and comfortable beds. Food excellent.
Review 116:we stayed in the twin room no 28 kept awake all night by we assume a fridge which was so noisy either in the restaurant or the store room which was a shame as the beds were so comfy it had a double and a twin bed which was a bit much for two single people would of been better to have a chair put in the room so not to have to sit on the beds to watch tv
Review 117:the hotel was lovely clean, helpful staff, excellent food would stay there again
Review 118:rather small room, carpet a bit jaded, was quoted free toiletries, but was only a dispenser of wash liquid at basin and in shower. no lift.
Review 119:very clean, great terrace garden at front of hotel with seating with umbrellas and tables, and two beach type huts with heating, lighting, seats and tables. Friendly staff, good choice of food, well cooked and served hot. Nice position, not far from front.
Review 120:We booked our table for the restaurant for 8.30 we didn't sit down till 9 and waited till 10 for our food room was very small
Review 121:The food was really nice in the dove dale staff friendly
Review 122:Had to leave main hotel building to access room at the back of the hotel (only a few rooms were like this).
Review 123:Close proximity to train station, town centre and beach. Off the main street, so no traffic noise. Helpful staff.
Review 124:I emailed the hotel with a question before my stay and was dissapointed that nobody got back to me with an answer i ended up phoning the hotel for my answer
Review 125:Staff are very friendly the food was very nice
Review 126:Had a double room over the kitchen and it was a bit small. Every morning about 6 o'clock when the staff came to work they would be shouting and laughing and making general noise. Will not stay here again.
Review 127:Friendly staff always pleasant. The food was quite good but a bit expensive if you did not have two for one. Breakfast was very good a good choice.
Review 128:It was my wife's birthday and we had invited 2 local guests. We booked a window table for 4 people for 8 pm. They gave it to some other people and we had to wait til nearly 9 pm to be seated. We ordered 3 steak meals on the £24.95 2 for 1 special plus fish and chips for 1. They charged for 4 steak meals PLUS the fish and chips. And the steak was not worth 25 quid that's for sure.
Review 129:Not a lot, except the staff were friendly and helpful, but not very focused, and we had off street parking.
Review 130:The fact we had two little cartons of milk 5month out of date in the room, only noticed whilst I made my daughter bottle of tea.
Review 131:The place is well presented and tidy, the staff were helpful and the restaurant was beautiful. The food was fantastic maybe a little pricey but u get what u pay for. The room are comfortable and are equipped with everything u need.
Review 132:instructions on arriving to the hotel were not very clear and the welcome from the staff on arrival was'nt good after all a smile costs nothing
Review 133:the room was beautiful as was the bar area
Review 134:Our second stay at the Dovedale. We would recommend it to anyone, staff were great, rooms clean spacious and well appointed, wifi free and decent, good breakfast excellent position.
Review 135:Room decor tired , staff noisy on a morning , creeking floorboards above our room
Review 136:Location is excellent ,would recommend purely for location staff friendly ,
Review 137:Did not receive a warm welcome, however that was just one member of staff.
Review 138:Room respectable for price, good for comfort, lovely bathtub
Review 139:We stay in cleethorpes often , but the Dovedale is sometimes to expensive !
Review 140:Location , food out standing
Review 141:Room smelt of smoke. Rooms too small. No bath. Not a nice view.
Review 142:Situated in the centre of cleethorpes. Clean. Freindly staff, lovely breakfast.
