Reviews for Boringdon Hall Hotel

Review 1:-- expected a traditional room in main house but given featureless room in wing -- shower in bathtub -- cracked washbasin -- getting soaked from too much pressure in washbasin tap

Review 2:-- excellent dining room service -- good food, both at dinner and breakfast

Review 3:The breakfast was a let down as they used budget ingredients, strange thing to do when everything else was exceptional But the staff were really keen to put it right

Review 4:We had a 3 course evening meal which was excellent, It was a birthday treat for myself and the hotel gave me balloons and chocolates in the room:) All staff were really friendly especially the young Man on main reception

Review 5:No lift, which inconvenienced my elderly father traveling with us, especially up to restaurant.

Review 6:Wonderful setting and character. Staff polite and efficient, and excellent value for money

Review 7:The only complaint was the pillows, which I found small and uncomfortable

Review 8:The location is excellent, and the hotel itself has a great atmosphere with parts dating back 500years. The bar food was good and reasonably prices as was the wine. My room was modern clean and on the whole comfortable.

Review 9:Comfy room, great internet, good tea and coffee facilities, had one issue with my toilet which was fixed right away. Had food in the bar, the soup was terrible, they took this off my bill on checkout!

Review 10:Very very disappointed with the room, almost like a Travel Lodge not at all as described on the web site not good value for money.

Review 11:Stunning House and grounds. Food very good, staff very polite .

Review 12:Lack of cotton wool buds/balls in bedroom, TV reception flaky, the hotel pictures (which very poor imitations which spoilt the setting a bit).

Review 13:Wonderful building, helpful staff, good location

Review 14:The fact that I can never get into one of the rooms with a hot tub because they are always booked!

Review 15:Amazing hotel. Staff are brilliant, rooms are luxurious, even the cheaper ones, food is great.

Review 16:Although we were warned in advance there was a function on and this meant a quiet drink in the Great Hall was not very quiet, however this was not audible in our room which was over the courtyard.

Review 17:Beautiful manor house with a history of famous visitors including Elizabeth 1st. Very nice welcoming staff. We requested a quiet room and it was indeed very peaceful. The gentleman who was front of house in the Gallery restaurant was excellent. We would stay again but perhaps midweek and this time will have dinner as it looked lovely.

Review 18:I can honestly say that I loved everything about Boringdon Hall Hotel! The staff were extraordinarily helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was delicious! I have already booked in to stay again!

Review 19:The ceiling overhead our family room was so creaky that our children (who sleep through thunderstorms and smoke alarms) were woken up every time the guests in the room above walked around.

Review 20:The service from the staff was outstanding. So friendly and welcoming, especially to our kids.

Review 21:Food, it was ok but over priced and pretentious, you don't need swirls of this and some dishes were confused. Just keep it tasty , local and simple.

Review 22:Fabulous location and building, friendly and helpful staff, smart and clean.

Review 23:No blind on bathroom window, did not feel opaque glass gave enough privacy when showering. Room was slightly too hot due to lack of air conditioning.

Review 24:Location, room a good size with excellent facilities. Comfortable bed.

Review 25:Problems with hot water and heating in rooms. Whilst lovely, a fair number of staff were new and unfamiliar with equipment and could be very slow. They were very apologetic though!

Review 26:Lovely building, period features, meals good, afternoon tea was lovely.

Review 27:I was very disappointed that the room did not in any way reflect the period features of the House which on booking I assumed it would. I felt the room was very Travel Lodge ish.

Review 28:The staff were very polite and accommodating. The house and grounds are stunning. The supplies of Tea/Coffee etc .were very generous and replaced daily.

Review 29:Could possibly do with having a few more of the more "special" rooms. Will be nice when the spa is open also.

Review 30:The room had everything we needed. We were looking to upgrade but there were no other rooms available. Staff were great & breakfast - lovely

Review 31:We didn't have a bad experience, the were just very ordinary rooms inside, despite its splendid exterior, we felt it was somewhat overpriced at £160.00 per night with the dog. The bathrooms were shabby and needed re-grouting and a good clean

Review 32:The setting of the hotel was lovely, the food was very good and reasonably priced and the staff were very helpful

Review 33:A bit of a hike from Plymouth , about 25 minutes and not 10 as the advertising suggests.

Review 34:A real sense of history here...... A very pleasant p,ace to be with friendly staff and excellent restaurant.

Review 35:Nothing of note. This was amongst the best places I've ever stayed.

Review 36:Wow! What an absolutely stunning building and setting. The staff were friendly, the accommodation jaw-dropping, the food was delicious, there's plenty of parking and the WiFi works well.

Review 37:nothing

Review 38:the hotel and location is beautiful, felt so welcome and relaxed. The staff are outstanding I have to say, they are friendly and very professional, credit to them they certainly make this place a great place to stay!

Review 39:The whole of the stay was amazing made so by the great staff, stunning location and incredible food I would not look anywhere else to stop if I was in the area again.

Review 40:Water supply was cut of due to a mains burst no water for 9 hours when it did eventually come back on could not get any hot. Given a up grade for second night as an apology, however had no hot water again on the second morning.

Review 41:The Staff very friendly

Review 42:Hotel feels like a business hotel, not much charm or individuality (despite the fine building) Might suit some if comfort is priority over charm. Breakfast was not brilliant for the price.

Review 43:Good set up as business hotel so if you are looking for a good sleep, good facilities, this is a good option well placed for Plymouth and Dartmoor.

Review 44:Staff should be more attentive to guests...we went to order some sandwiches in the bar at lunch time and there were a few members of staff chatting in the kitchen and it took almost 10 minutes for someone to come and serve me! There was no bell to ring or anything.

Review 45:Love this place...it's no wonder so many people get married here!

Review 46:My first room was in main building 3rd floor, no lift, with my ME, bit difficult, spoke to reception, they moved me to room in annex the next day.

Review 47:Building is fabulous, laid back approach, afternoon tea with the best Earl Grey tea, had in ages. Brilliant Reception Manager, dealt with my room problem, moved me to a far nicer and lot larger room.

Review 48:Softer mattress please

Review 49:Genuinely the most polite and attentive staff I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. The staff are what makes Borringdon Hall a place you wish you had longer in

Review 50:Had ordered box of chocolates with prosecco to find in the room, but the chocolates were never there, and we were charged for them

Review 51:Welcoming atmosphere and very helpful and welcoming staff at our arrival, room was very nice and clean and overall beautiful place to stay in. Definitely can gain another star with the spa on our opinion! :)

Review 52:Room was cold A lot of dust either side of bed behind bedside units

Review 53:Overall everything the setting , the interior design and architecture of the buildings the grounds The staff were very helpfull

Review 54:Could do with an extra blanket in the wardrobe. Thin duvet. Felt cold in the night.

Review 55:Interesting history and beautiful house. It added piquancy to follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth 1st. The food was also excellent. It was very quiet at night.

Review 56:If we had to be really picky (and this is really picky). Our poached eggs were over cooked on the first morning. And the pancakes could have been better. If you are having pancakes for breakfast with syrup then your would expect them to be American rather than English style (thin and crispy) in our opinion.

Review 57:Ideal location for the moors. A beautiful building and lovely rooms. Very helpful and attentive staff and pet friendly.

Review 58:The 'hot' water was running at approx. 30C. The hotel was aware of this as they were awaiting a part but we were not told and had lukewarm showers. The shower curtain was also too short so the bathroom floor flooded.

Review 59:Very impressive main building and good location.

Review 60:We liked everything...nothing to complain about apart from we would have liked to stay longer ;-)

Review 61:Beautiful building with lovely grounds. Staff were very attentive and friendly which made our stay even more enjoyable. Was a perfect location for Dartmoor National Park. Which we could have stayed longer. We will definitely come back again and hopefully when they have completed the new Spa which will be a great addition to the hotel.

Review 62:We had a terrible time finding the hotel. Ended up down scary narrow twisting roads leading nowhere. Insufficient and misleading signage. We almost gave up. Finally were able to connect by phone and the staff guided us in.

Review 63:Beautiful historic building with phenomenal staff.

Review 64:One small item was that the mastic in the shower was showing signs of age and needed to be cleaned/replaced - just detail!

Review 65:Staff we very attentive without being in your face - well trained The food was excellent and good value

Review 66:Building work going on behind that we didn't know about. A wedding party took over most areas late afternoon evening.

Review 67:Excellent location great building superb food.

Review 68:The Bar staff should be advised not to poor the last "dregs" from a bottle of wine into the glass. The building is very historic perhaps a leaflet or something that describes the place in more detail available to read in the bar area.

Review 69:Stayed only one night bedroom facilities and breakfast were excellent. Too short a visit to see more. Staff were very friendly and attentive at the Reception and at Breakfast. Bed and Breakfast deal far superior to that offered by either of the Premier Inns in Plymouth.

Review 70:The bar main course of fish cakes was just that. As a main course I expected at least a small salad or vegetables with this. It was more of a starter.

Review 71:The staff are great. Helpful with a sense of humour. A beautiful building and setting.

Review 72:There was noise from construction of an extension or spa at the rear of the building, but this was not particularly annoying.

Review 73:The character of the building and, for our purpose, the location. The staff were welcoming, friendly but not intrusive. Our room was spacious, clean and well equipped.

Review 74:Difficulty in finding room in a 600 year old building with few signed directions.

Review 75:We were upgraded to a room with four poster which was absolute superb. All the staff wer charming.

Review 76:I was not expecting miracles but the bed (double) seemed particularly small and uncomfortable. The room was extremely hot (but this was probably due to the weather so you cannot control that). It was really noisy (as there was wedding music blaring loudly until I don't know what time but I was phoned and forewarned. Also, we thought that the tv was really small!

Review 77:The location was absolutely stunning and the hotel was very easy to find. Our room (although, the cheapest and most basic one) was nice and very clean. The bathroom was lovely and had beautiful colourful tiles, that shimmered in the light. We both had really long baths, they were relaxing and the water was really nice and hot. We had showers the next morning (when we were leaving) and they were very hot and extremely powerful so 10/10 for that, thank you. The staff were very friendly and willing to help from the second we arrived on the property. We cannot comment on the breakfasts as we had to leave really early to get home.

Review 78:We paid just over 100 pound a night which was done but I had two beds pushed together this should have been a double bed

Review 79:Facilities are perfect the staff and place was excellent made my weekend !

Review 80:Did not sleep until past 1am due to a very noisy wedding reception even though I was promised to be far enough away to not hear. Wedding guests acted like they owned the place and were everywhere. Perhaps a polite request to stay within party areas to all future weddings organised. I get they paid an awful lot more than me.... but still.

Review 81:Superb stunning place. Staff went the extra mile and I liked the extra touches like umbrellas available to use by the doors and the hand signed welcome card from the manager. Very clean, comfortable and well laid out room.

Review 82:The only complaint i have is that their free wifi didn't connect! So I was unable to connect to the internet & complete some business tasks. I didn't arrive until late to check-in (10pm) and then had to check-out early (7am) the following morning, so unfortunately I didn't get to experience much if the hotel which is a real shame.

Review 83:The hotel was beautiful & well maintained.

Review 84:The new spa being built is a work site and does detract from the otherwise brilliant surroundings, but it is to be expected from such a n obviously large investment (just doesn't look good now) but from plans shown it will be great when finished.

Review 85:The lovely open and friendly greeting from front of house, offered a welcome soft drink unfortunately Raspberry (devils fruit), unfazed an iced orange juice was sorted, the staff were really friendly and could not be more pleasant or helpful! Clean picturesque surroundings, quite and a really nicely appointed and furnished room, bed well slept like a log!

Review 86:I had booked the hotel myself on line for my two mature guests paid upfront so i thought. when they arrived they were asked to give their card details and told the amount payable, which they paid on arrival a little bit stupid for me Graham French but i did sort the problem by phone later i booked the same couple in the Imperial Hotel Torquay with no problem.

Review 87:A little bit picky, but I would have preferred to eat off white table cloths for dinner, rather than on wood, from my breakfast sitting.

Review 88:The drive up to the Hotel was very impressive but not overly so to the point it looked fake, as with many other five star Hotels have become! The staff made you feel welcome and relaxed, whilst keeping professional on all levels. Bedrooms nicely done and beds very comfortable.

Review 89:Well appointed, comfortable, excellent price. Thoroughly enjoyed my short stay and would have taken advantage of staying longer if work commitments had allowed. Hotel was beautifully decorated and well situated with both the Dartmoor countryside and city of Plymouth only a short drive away, though making use of the hotel's facilities is high on the list of things to do during the stay!

Review 90:No walks around hotel suitable for dogs. Rooms functional but no style. Very uncomfortable pillows.

Review 91:The restaurant food was really excellent despite the rather dingy and old fashioned decor.

Review 92:This was all and more we had hoped for. We had booked a room with a hot-tub and it was simply lovely. Since the occasion was a birthday we were very appreciative of the staff's efforts in decorating the room. Fantastic!

Review 93:There was a lot of noise all evening from a widening party but worst of all was the bed. My husband couldn't get to sleep because of poking springs and saggy mattress edges. He asked to sleep in another room, and it was hard as a rock. We were to stay two nights but checked out after only one. Dinner was pretty ordinary, too.

Review 94:Friendly, helpful staff and beautiful view for miles

Review 95:I found Boringdon Hall by chance and will now continue to use the hotel whenever I am in the area. The hotel is wonderful and the staff very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere allows me to work quietly in superb surroundings as well as being able to relax and enjoying the history. The food is great and I look forward to the new spa facilities next year.

Review 96:The hotel looks stunning as you arrive and enter the reception area. There are ancient paintings, massive fire places and even the archers windows are still there. The room was spacious, comfortable and warm. Shower and a bath in a good sized bathroom.

Review 97:The car park felt quite far away from the room which made carrying in and out or stuff a bit difficult. The wi-fi cut out at times.

Review 98:Great staff who were very attentive to our needs with our little one. Amazing food served in the gallery restaurant for our evening meal and good breakfast with lots of options. Nice clean room with free wi-fi. The staff found our daughters favourite toy when we thought we had lost it.

Review 99:As mentioned would have been nice to know about the building work directly behind the room with unexpected wake up call when builders started.

Review 100:The service, food & accommodation were all very good.

Review 101:Finding the Hotel. Could be better signposted. Stairs to dining room. Difficult for people having difficulty in climbing stairs without a lift. Later discovered there was an option to eat downstairs for people with difficulty climbing stairs.

Review 102:Space and comfort. Friendly & helpful staff.

Review 103:My only negative was hearing about a promotional offer whilst there that many of the guests there had taken advantage of! We did think our stay and food were worth what we paid though.

Review 104:Our four poster room was stunning as were the great hall and gallery restaurant. The staff were attentive throughout our stay and really added to the enjoyment of our stay. The food was excellent and we dined exceptionally well. The spa will be an excellent addition.

Review 105:The heating was on overnight and you could hear the rushing of water through the pipes...

Review 106:The ambience of the venue, it just exudes class and history Easy check in/check out. Customer service of all staff is first class Service first class all round Food - excellent

Review 107:Some clouds appeared in the sky on our last day

Review 108:Great property, good atmosphere, well maintained. Good service, excellent value, friendly staff and helpful.

Review 109:The only negative point is that the interior walls of the rooms are not soundproof. However it did not bother us mid week as the occupancy level was not high.

Review 110:Excellent service in a historic location. Wi-Fi superb. Would definitely stay again.

Review 111:Having to check out.

Review 112:Boringdon Hall accommodation was a refreshing pleasant surprise and we loved every minute of it. I have told everyone I know about this wonderful hotel.

Review 113:Drinks slightly on expensive side.

Review 114:The accommodation was amazing. We stayed in the Royal Suite which was fantastic. Our own hot tub on top of a turret, deep tub bath, double shower, comfy bed, what more could you ask for! Oh yes, the amazing food.

Review 115:Approach to the hotel through a large residential estate and some narrow roads was at first a little disconcerting as I wondered where it was leading me to, but hotel located just on the outskirts of the residential area that you did not notice it.

Review 116:Lovely old building with open fires and comfortable lounges. Accommodation in a new extension which provided a spacious room with comfortable bed and nice ensuite facilities. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Currently undergoing a large extension at the rear of the building to develop a quality spa and health facilities which will further enhance this hotel.

Review 117:The room was cold and in order to get warmth I was downgraded to a box room. They also appear to turn the heating off at 9pm to save money therefore take warm clothes if you are a late arrival.

Review 118:Breakfast

Review 119:Insistence from the staff that we hadn't already paid for our breakfast quite loudly in front of the other guests Also incorrect historical references at the entrance to the property shows carelessness on the part of the owner

Review 120:No phone signal therefore making phone calls is impossible

Review 121:The location of the hotel which is a castle is awesome. Downside is there is no phone signal on the property but they offer free wifi

Review 122:English Breakfast on first day hadn't appeared after 25 minutes. Had to leave. Apparently no chef but waiting staff and manager attempted to carry on but unfortunately didn't succeed. Second day was superb!!. Unfortunately false fire alarm had gone off at 03.30 so very tired at breakfast.

Review 123:clean, very comfortable, staff friendly and efficient

Review 124:I was given a room in the old part of the building which had a 4 poster bed (I think I was upgraded and having driven for 5 hours to reach the hotel it was lovely to have a nice room).

Review 125:My Wifi access was a little flaky at times, but that's a minor niggle.

Review 126:Really enjoyed my stay. Bed was comfortable, the room was lovely. Food was great.

Review 127:The fact that I couldn't stay longer !!!

Review 128:The excellent restoration of the Elizabethan mansion. The Great Hall with its huge fireplace is superb. Meals are served in the Minstrel's Gallery overlooking the Great Hall, where a roaring fire was burning during my stay. The bedroom, although in an old part of the building, was very modern and extremely comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Review 129:It was all wonderful , having to leave was the worst thing

Review 130:The staff were friendly , welcoming, attentive without being intrusive , polite without losing the friendly touch, they are a genuine assest , the cherry on the top of a very nice cake , Surroundings and building are wonderful

Review 131:Excellent customer service from all staff we encountered. We found the rooms extremely well appointed and so quiet! Would love to return once the Spa is built as I think this would add so much to an already great hotel.

Review 132:On my prior nights in the UK, I was disappointed to be in a new hotel considering the deep history of the country. So, when I arrived at Boringdon, I was pleased to be greeted by a suit of armor and short doorways. Yes, I hit my head but this place was not built when people were tall. The room was cozy and the bathroom was clean and modern. I really enjoyed the stay.

Review 133:The floors creek and are very thin meaning you can hear voices from the people above as well as them walking across the floor.

Review 134:Large rooms, clean and well appointed

Review 135:The fit out of the rooms was corporate and dull but the great hall was bizarre - what persuaded the designer to furnish a great space like this with cast off furniture from a brothel catering for extra tall clients? Also having a fire in the grate was a good touch but be generous - a few logs wouldn't go astray !

Review 136:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Buildings were wonderful, food was great

Review 137:Bed was good size but duvet too small for it.

Review 138:We had a lovely couple of days relaxing at this hotel. reception staff very helpful and restaurant staff were excellent food superb and very good value for a four star hotel
