Reviews for Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel & Spa
Review 1:The room was lovely and the bistro food was fab. Nice cosy retreat for an anniversary. Good service and not intrusive so felt private but with a good atmosphere and lovely surroundings.
Review 2:Pool was a little cold.
Review 3:Relaxed atmosphere in peaceful area and very pleasant accommodation.Good spa area which we were able to use at any time of the stay. Helpful and pleasant staff. Good menu and quality of food.
Review 4:The 'pet friendly' room was a little basic although I am sure the others are better.
Review 5:We liked the food, the spa facilities and the fact we could bring our dog
Review 6:The rooms desperately need updating. Our room smelt of wee in all honesty. Don't think it was but something smelt like it. Generally looks a bit dated.
Review 7:The facilities are really good - nice pool, sauna and steam room. Restaurant was amazing. Had hake and it was spot on and my wife's rack of lamb was delicious.
Review 8:Lack of information from staff. Told could book treatments on the day. Then needed to cancel one out of three treatments and was charged, this wasn't explained when treatments booked. Food was poor, I would go for facilities again nut not food or customer service.
Review 9:Comfortable room. Good facilities
Review 10:The soft furnishings were looking a little tired.
Review 11:Friendly staff. Good size superior double room with large comfortable bed. Excellent food in the Bistro. Good selection of breakfast items.
Review 12:We rang for a whole hour for room service and nobody answered. The decor is dated, there were stains on carpet in bedroom and the jacuzzi had part of a seat floating in it
Review 13:The meal was excellent
Review 14:OMG ! The wi-fi is not usable in your room. It can only be accessed if you are in the bar. This is a big problem if you are away from home on business too
Review 15:Friendly staff, comfy room and facilities
Review 16:Very odd rules about food & room service eg no sandwiches available except between 3-5pm, no food served in the lounge at certain times. Really overheated, uncomfortably hot in some sections of the hotel Many of the staff were quite abrupt at times. We were with young kids & were seated far away from the breakfast buffet..presumably to spare other guests from noise but inconvenient for us
Review 17:Stunning location. Delicious dinners
Review 18:Excellent food, especially the evening menu. Excellent proximity for walking, especially for Pen y Fan. Comfortable lounge. Lively bar. Nice staff. Clean? Spa lovely to relax in. Comfortable room. Video library a good feature. Plenty of car parking space. Spa could do with a 'spinner' for wet swimsuits.
Review 19:The evening food was disappointing. Way too expensive for what you got. I had a red pepper streudel which was more like a very expensive Greggs sausage roll with a tacky pink sauce which was supposed to be a 'jus'. Don't think I'd eat there again for the evening meal. Hotel robe provided in superior rooms but I think slippers should be too rather than being an extra cost. No phone signal and wifi only available in the bar area so not ideal for business travellers.
Review 20:The spa facilities were above standard of most places I have stayed. Great pool, well kitted out gym and sauna and stream rooms were great. Shame the hotel didn't reflect the spa standards as everything was a bit tired and outdated in the rooms. The superior room was huge. Felt that maybe the smaller rooms may have been a bit nicer than the bigger rooms from looking through a window. The hotel is extremely clean though which was excellent. Breakfast was good and included. Plenty of choice for the continental buffet and no need to pay extra for cooked breakfast.
Review 21:Only small things...the starter of a handful of sweet potato wedges was disappointing for £5.25 - seemed odd as same price as prawns etc. Better suited as a cheaper side. With a bit of tweaking (flooring/tiles) the bathroom would have been nicer.
Review 22:Really comfortable, quiet & conveniently located for bike park wales. Room was fab - really spacious & lovely solid wood furniture with leather sofa. Nice to see the effort put in on touches like this. Lovely spa to relax in after a day of biking. Nice touches like a lounge and loads of DVDs to choose from. Nice big TV in superior room. Would definitely recommend, especially for value for money. Looking forward to coming back.
Review 23:the spa was nice but unfortunately massages were not worth teh money that was the only down side
Review 24:staff were very helpful and flexible as we had a young baby couldnt have done more to help location fantastic with easy access to national parks and brecon beacons spectacular for hiking and biking . Ease of access to cardiff. Food on restaurant was excellent adn freshly prepared altogether a most enjoyable trip. Would stay again
Review 25:Really fell in love with this visit me and my wife would recommend this place to anyone the staff was very pleasant the facility were very good and the food was out of this world.
Review 26:There is little to no mobile signal and there is only Wifi available in the bar. This means that little work can be done at the hotel if on business, which I was.
Review 27:Room was excellent and in very nice surroundings. Staff were excellent as was the food.
Review 28:We paid for a superior room and we got two single beds pushed together, different heights. One mattress was so hard it was like sleeping on concrete and the other was soft. The room was very dated. This may sound picky but even the toilet paper was very poor and cheap! Not what you expect for a superior room. The pool facilities were nice and quiet however the jacuzzi was not working properly. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was ok apart from my partners peppercorn sauce came out freezing cold. When we told the waitress she replied 'will pop it in the mic'. While checking out we mentioned all of the above to the lady at the desk and all she kept saying was ''aw sorry about that"....not good enough! Really disappointed with this hotel. It was a disappointing birthday present and we will definitely not be returning again.
Review 29:The breakfast was nice with a lot to choose from.
Review 30:Since visiting here a few years ago I was slightly disappointed with the staff and the general approach/look. We were made to feel a little bit like ' the poor people' because we had booked a budget room - even having to have a discussion about robes only for those in executive rooms in front of other guests. The spa treatments are not as good as they were - lack of class and finesse. Having stayed in the executive rooms before, I couldn't see much difference in what you get for your money. I also think the hotel needs a paint through inside - many of the doors are grubby and chipped - it's all about the little things if you want to be an executive hotel. I will come back because I think it will get better again and the restaurant is brilliant (mussels were great), but it's looking a little tired at the moment. More seating on pool side essential and the jacuzzi needs a bit more oomph!
Review 31:The evening meal we ate in the restaurant was superb. Their food is excellent. Pool and sauna/steam room were great. Our £99 pound room via Booking.com was great. Quiet and relaxing environment.
Review 32:Nothing significant I can think of except if I was being picky I would say that it would be good to have the water on display so that we could have had it overnight rather then finding it in the morning when we went to make tea! But that is me being super picky!
Review 33:Nice room, lovely location, lots of parking and easy to find. Was told we may not be able to book in early but could use the spa facilities to change which was very useful.
Review 34:The Bathrooms need upgrading Disappointed room not ready on arrival wasn't offered a complimentary drink
Review 35:Lovely big room would def recommend an upgrade to the deluxe room Restaurant Food Amazing Pool and Spa Spotless and very relaxing
Review 36:Very hot in the reception on arrival and departure. Children at the bar counter in the pub/restaurant. As I was on business the poor mobile telephone reception and internet facilities were a disadvantage.
Review 37:Comfortable bed and good breakfast. Perfect spot for a break away from work when you don't need connectivity.
Review 38:Rooms were very basic and a bit dated. The hotel décor really needs updating and redecorating as some areas were very shabby and worn out.
Review 39:Good location friendly staff
Review 40:Very slow service. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait and it was an hour. Also staff often ignore you when busy, would be politer to say ' with you in a minute' and at least acknowledge your presence!
Review 41:Good food and nice pool.
Review 42:Bed, too hot, dog friendly, but no where that allows a dog to go? No details of walks in the area.
Review 43:Facilities, location. Food was very good. Treatments.
Review 44:shame Jacuzzi and steam room not working but pool and sauna very good.
Review 45:the location for outdoor activities is fabulous. Evening meal excellent and continental breakfast very good. Nice to have dressing gown in room as easy to nip into pool as room so close.
Review 46:Extremely dated, tired room. Rusting fittings in the bathroom, no shower head holder or shower so bath (chipped) the only option (had to go to the spa area to have a shower - which was dangerously hot then ran for about 5 seconds!), water pressure dreadful, badly stained bedroom carpet, damaged iron brought to room, disinterested staff (the lady who checked me out didn't even ask if everything was ok or if I'd enjoyed my stay, simply took payment and said nothing else).
Review 47:Clean, comfortable bed.
Review 48:Suggest a cooked buffet breakfast at weekends; I note complaints from others for slow service at breakfast; NOT our experience but I could imagine the system coming under pressure on Sunday mornings post weddings. The toaster is very slow !
Review 49:Excellent evening meal apart from a very marginally overcooked sole. Nice pool and jacuzzi too; all looked well managed.
Review 50:The only thing was the shower was not powerful enough but did not matter as everything else was exceptional.
Review 51:The food was 5 star even the breakfast was a joy, the staff where very welcoming on arrival and through out our stay. We stayed in room 8 and it was clean and fresh and good value for money.
Review 52:Spa tired bubble pool not working properly , bitten by bugs, couldn't open windows, hotel too hot, noisy guests next door
Review 53:Buffet breakfast and dinner great
Review 54:Our room could've done with a bit of a spruce up. The diy jobs hasn't been done to the best of standards but it didn't really detract from the experience at all.
Review 55:Staff were excellent! It's the little touches like a mini cake for my partner as it was his birthday and a breakfast tray delivered to the room. Fantastic experience.
Review 56:Drinks were a little expensive. I had expected that the buffet breakfast would have have been a cooked buffet style breakfast which it was not and I was expected to pay an extra £4.95 for the welsh cooked breakfast. The shower (hand held) in Room 9 ran for a short period of time and then stopped completely (not ideal!!). Finally, if you want to dine/drink outside in the beautiful gardens which are very well kept, beware the horrendous amount of midges (due to the hotel's proximity to the river) which make sitting outside virtually impossible which is a great shame
Review 57:The staff were excellent. The quality of the food was excellent.
Review 58:My partner dos not find the bed very comfortable (I was busy sleeping comfortably myself). Wifi is not available in the rooms, poor signal
Review 59:Beautiful location, amazing facilities, very friendly and warm hearted staff. We loved our stay... To our surprise, the use of the spa facilities was included at no extra cost! Amazing jacuzzi and pool. We were very pleasantly surprised when we informed staff that a bat got trapped in the pool (it had sneakly entered through a ventilation point)... It took the lovely girls at he reception no time whatsoever to come and help the poor animal set off to freedom. We had no choice but to loudly celebrate their beautiful life-saving action! The hotel is also pet friendly... So our beautiful daughter (a miniature dachshund) was able to come and stay with us too... Which was the main reason why we booked this hotel, as we were travelling from Bershire. Plenty of choice for breakfast (continental). Easily affordable hotel with stunning localtion near a lake... If you are wondering if this is the right choice or not... Be sure you will not be disappointed!
Review 60:The toilet cistern in Room 24 was very poor. It took forever to flush as there seemed no pressure there, also, the tiling around the shower end of the bath needed a overhaul
Review 61:Very comfortable room and very clean
Review 62:Room and corridor plagued with midges. Bathroom window looking onto the corridor - one sign in bathroom states to close bathroom window because of midges other next to it says open it when having a shower - even though there are people walking past!! Breakfast was awful.
Review 63:Location. Spa
Review 64:Well located. Clean and comfortable with a good spa facility. Travellers would enjoy the peace and quiet and the great location in the middle of the beacons. The lack pf WiFi is disappointing in this day and age and the popularity of the bar meals means the bar is always crowded so a quiet drink is not possible. The staff are very professional but could be a little more welcoming.
Review 65:Pillows were rock hard I hardly slept and then deliveries on trolleys at 7 am! Nothing was explained to us,for example towels and where anything was only our room pointed out. Didn't say whats included in our room price and lady in restaurant didn't explain why we weren't "on her list for the discount on a our evening meal as menu states if you have a room booked with spa facility included. She just said we not entitled. In a busy restaurant I wasn't willing to ask for an explanation. Friends have had meal discount when booking Friday evening in the past. Overall poor communication
Review 66:The facilities were lovely and the food was very good, couldn't fault it.
Review 67:The jacuzzi was a little disappointing. It needed a little more power but realised there was a power cut the night before we arrived which is why this was effected.
Review 68:room was a bit tired but TV was useless - completely pixelating , Internet connection not available unless in the small crowded bar - no good for working - no mobile phone connection
Review 69:food & service 1st class - bed excellent
Review 70:Our room was very basic. The toilet was very temperamental as was the shower.
Review 71:The hotel is in a perfect setting. It is the ideal retreat if you fancy a get away but not too far from places like Brecon for a visit.
Review 72:spa facility needs updating, quite worn. carpet in bedroom could have been cleaner. no shower in bathroom. bed uncomfortable. continental breakfast was a bit poor, not much choice.
Review 73:The food is amazing in the restaurant. Regularly eat here.
Review 74:The shower was cold and took 45 minutes at least which was a down side. The reception of TV was always interference even with teresteral tv
Review 75:Lovely surrounding country side with all thee memories you need for a pampering weekend. The hotel is of high standard with the food of high quality.
Review 76:Having to pay extra for a cooked breakfast, limited buffet choice,no meats at breakfast, warm cheese portions and cold hard boiled eggs.Jacuzzi Hot Tub, very weak jets, seating neck rests loose, tiles missing in areas, very tired.
Review 77:Location from Cardiff.Bed very comfortable and robes in the room.
Review 78:It was my anniversary I got an upgrade to a better room. Sadly the room was very basic I thought, and had two single beds pushed together!
Review 79:Spa facility and staff friendly.
Review 80:Was a little dissappointed to be told on arrival that the superior room which we had upgraded too were not available due to the lack of hot water in the rooms.
Review 81:The Weather,Staff,Grounds and mostly the food.
Review 82:Hotel was far too hot, guests kept their windows open and this was in April. WiFi only available in certain parts of the hotel, not in bedrooms. No mobile phone coverage.
Review 83:Restaurant area is very nice. River room 20 was lovely, staff always friendly. we were able to book a Value Deal on Booking.com.
Review 84:The shower in the room was poor, the head was to big for the water pressure !!... It was the only let down .. Shame really ..
Review 85:The food was excellent , especially the Welsh lamb ..
Review 86:Staff mostly uninterested in the customers, Felt like they just couldn't be bothered. Place also felt a bit tired!
Review 87:Nice pool and fab views. Enjoyed dinner although service could have been more engaging.
Review 88:Bedroom taps not secure, some bath pipes rusty.Bedroom in need of upgrading.
Review 89:Excellent staff.High quality dining .wonderful location. Spa an attractive facility
Review 90:Room 8 had the worst shower I've ever used in a hotel. The water dripped out
Review 91:The fire and the food were the highlights, pool & jacuzzi were great for relaxing as long as it doesn't get too busy.
Review 92:If you are there on business, and need phone and email/web access, the o2 coverage was non-existent, and the Hotel wi-fi kept on dropping in and out. I managed to get O2 coverage by putting my phone outside the window on the ledge outside
Review 93:Excellent place to stay, meals were great and staff were fantastic.
Review 94:Have stayed numerous times at Nant Ddu. But after new owners the service is appalling, hotel looks tired, lights not working, rusty towel rails. Good memories ruined. £99 for a double, stay if you can get a room for £65. Nothing more. A real shame. Ps just spotted they charged us £13 for a panini!
Review 95:The location is perfect for Bike Park Wales.
Review 96:I am gluten free and the food throughout was just right for me. It was really varied and good value. The hotel is situated near to Pen y Fan and other mountain walks. The wet suite is lovely and relaxing too.
Review 97:Hotel needs a bit of updating rooms and especially bathroom was out of date
Review 98:nice hotel excellent location and excellent food have been to Nanty a few times over the years
Review 99:The swimming pool and Jacuzzi water were only slightly warm could havedone with being much warmer esp the Jacuzzi. Although the buffetbreakfast was included in room price the cooked choices were chargeableit would have been nice to be able to choose.
Review 100:The staff couldn't have been more helpful they even managed to finda dog bowl(we had forgotten ours). The fillet steak I had was cooked toperfection. The massage was really nice.
Review 101:weather raining but it was dec.
Review 102:warm friendly staff, good food , enjoyed the spa as weather was bad,but looking forward to going back in the summer to enjoy the beautiful countryside it is set in ,lovely walks and waterfalls close by.
Review 103:Our TV didn't work. It transpired that the batteries in the remote control were flat. We used the batteries from the DVD player to remedy the problem. Service in the restaurant was slow on the Friday evening, with about an hour's wait between starter and main. However, this is not our usual experience. I hope the recent take over by Lester Hotels means that the high standards of the hotel are being maintained.
Review 104:The food is always excellent with a wide and varied menu. The spa facilities are good and never too busy. The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. The location, inside the Brecon Beacons National Park, but easy to reach from the Cardiff area, is very convenient for us.I had a lovely facial on Saturday morning, which was good value, at £50 for 50 minutes. The breakfast buffet is good, with lots of baked goods and fresh fruit salad and compotes avaiable. Serving until 11am is obviously a real bonus for guests, as it never gets too busy and allows time for a swim beforehand.
Review 105:Had already paid for the room, spa treatments, champagne and chocolates before I got to the hotel as it was for a birthday gift for my boyfriend. They then they tried to charge me for it again on arrival and said it was not possible for me to have paid before arrival. I was quite offended as they persisted, despite me knowing I had paid for it over the phone five days earlier. Also I had to request the champagne and chocs, they should have been in the room on arrival. They sent up, I think the Manager with the champagne and chocolates and then he also persisted in telling me I could not have pre-paid, I had! Took the shine off the stay a bit. The room key card did not work on arrival and we had to have it reporgrammed before we could get in and the spa mens foot treatment was not as described in the brochure but the massage was nice. I emailed the hotel my grievance when I got home on their contact page, I have had no response which I do not think is acceptable. Such a shame as the hotel was lovely.
Review 106:Lovely scenery and surroundings, nice spa, good food.
Review 107:Room we stayed in only had a hand held shower over the bath but couldn't have a bath as the plug didn't fit. Also TV reception very poor.
Review 108:Food is excellent and staff extremely helpful and polite.
Review 109:Restaurant very busy and service was a little slow.
Review 110:Excellent food which was reasonable priced. Lovely location. Relaxing spa and pool. Very comfortable room which was large in size. Good continental breakfast.
Review 111:Steam room was not working. Bedroom was a bit tatty with peeling wallpaper on ceiling and water marks on the carpet. Windows could be cleaned.
Review 112:Quality of the food at dinner - excellent. Pool and sauna were very nice.
Review 113:Beautiful place, and a beautiful bedroom. The evening food was fabulous although they were very busy that ment we had to wait a while for our food but because of this we were offered free desserts. The spa is lovely although there wernt many spa treatment available on the day and they were all fully booked so I would reconnect booking the spa treatment in advance.
Review 114:Nothing serious at all - although a spent bathroom bulb and failed TV remote could have been spotted before we came. But that's no reason not to return!
Review 115:Relaxed feeling, excellent chef, modern spa and comfortable, well-equipped, room.
Review 116:The receptionist on arrival didn't greet me or give me any information. I had to ask her where the room was located. All the other staff were excellent.
Review 117:The restaurant. Evening food is superb. Breakfast staff are great.
Review 118:The room was quite warm at night as there was no air conditioning. I would have thought such a modern facility would have this
Review 119:The friendliness of the staff. They were very accommodating especially in the restaurant. The stay was very relaxing. Excellent food in the restaurant with plenty of choice. I would definitely stay again.
Review 120:no shower in the room only a bath.& you had to pay extra for a full English breakfast
Review 121:The Facilities swimming pool sauna steam room and hot tub are one of the best I have been too. Room was clean and comfortable and a new carpet had just been laid.
Review 122:No mobile signal if you're on O2 or Vodaphone. Not the fault of the hotel, but poor internet access means wifi available only in the bar and restaurant. Difficult when you're travelling on business. Definitely need wifi in the rooms.
Review 123:The food is excellent, superior rooms are very good, staff are very helpful and welcoming.
Review 124:The bedroom, sparse, wedged between the linen containers and the car park immediately under the window. Felt like a cheaper annexe to the main building.Very disappointing!
Review 125:The meals, the service, and the staff
Review 126:Pillows were like bricks and mattress lumpy. Bedside lights looked very pretty but impossible to read by. No shower Breakfast mediocre especially considering how good dinner was. Reception check in is in the spa, which necessitated a very long wait as 3 spa guests were haggling over their bill. Disappointing
Review 127:Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic with great food and helpful staff
Review 128:The it leaves a lot to be desired. I fully understand that the poor 0rnon-existent telephone reception is not their fault but no wifi in thebedrooms rooms could be tackled i'm sure.
Review 129:The food is excellent - varied and interesting menu, speedy service, nohassle. Rooms are great.
Review 130:The jacuzzi was out of order when we went to use the spa. There was a note of apologies but we were very disappointed.
Review 131:The room and food were lovely. Location excellent for what we wanted.
Review 132:The jacuzzi wasn't working.
Review 133:Very comfy bed Relaxing in the pool/sauna/steam room The MOST delicious meal in the bistro. Generous cooked breakfast. Helpful and professional staff.
Review 134:standard of the room compared to our friends who had a better room and bigger we had to pay the same price Bit of a damp odour in the corridor from reception through to the dinning room
Review 135:Food surroundings Staff attitude Good customer service
Review 136:Had two beauty treatments by two different therapists. One was very good, the other was very rushed and not v relaxing. They were very busy but....
Review 137:Friendly and helpful staff Lovely food Location Large swimming pool
Review 138:Nothing
Review 139:I go to Nant ddu on a regular basis, especially when I'm feeling stressed! The staff are all friendly and so helpful. I usually have a treatment, which is a great way to unwind, and love to relax with a swim, and a lovely meal afterwards, the rooms are always clean and so comfortable, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who just wants a bit of time out!
Review 140:The attitude of the personnel, almost rude at times. With memories of former stays, this seemed a different place. Rooms were only partly cleaned, beds remained unmade. The included buffet breakfast is a very simple affair but the "full Welsh" at extra charge is very tasty!
Review 141:Beautiful location. Gorgeous garden, plants and flowers. Friendly receptionist.
Review 142:l'm afraid we were disappointed with the two rooms 13 & 14. Beds hard, fittings tired and just lacked a warm atmophere. It felt a bit 'funny' as they are semi outside if that makes sense. I am sure if you did them up and the corridor leading to them (ie carpet) they could be made much more attractive and warm feeling.
Review 143:Location & Staff were good. Enjoyed the lounge and had a very good evening meal. Swimming pool good, gardens very pleasant. Ideal for getting to the Welsh Show.
