Reviews for The Grosvenor Plymouth
Review 1:Unfortunately I couldn't see how this room was £10 more than a "standard double"
Review 2:The room was lovely. Linens, towels and appliances all seemed to be of a high quality. Breakfast was great and there was a good choice of different things.
Review 3:Absolutely NOTHING
Review 4:Location to Hoe, Barbican and shopping all within walking distance. Room 11 was spotlessly clean, roomy and well equipped, exactly as seen and described on the website...fabulous. Breakfast was well served, all cooked how you wished and piping hot.
Review 5:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 6:I liked everything about this hotel, economical, clean and very comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and friendly.
Review 7:Staff were very friendly and our room was spotlessly clean. The two receptionists we dealt with were both very polite and helpful. Excellent breakfast. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Plymouth.
Review 8:We had no hot water on our departure morning and the girl on reception didn't seem to care about that too much! Hence, we were unable to shower and had to boil a kettle for a wash!
Review 9:Friendly, well located clean and welcoming hotel. Breakfast was a bit 'cafe like' but good and tasty and not too formal. Internet was good and beds comfortable.
Review 10:They used to have very nice coffee, but now it all comes out of a machine and is not that great. Breakfast is okay, but could be nicer. This time I had a room with a tiny TV and the mattress was used up.
Review 11:Hotel with a very nice atmosphere, close to the water front in a quiet area, but only 5min walk to town. Staff is very friendly, tasteful furniture, good showers and beds.
Review 12:just a note - room 34 has over wash basin shelf too low/close to basin - head bang!
Review 13:Always welcoming, especially appreciated after a difficult first leg of voyage, EXCELLENT BREAKFAST. comfortable clean room, hot shower, tea in cosy bed -perfect for overnight between public transport! REAL Christmas tree! perfect price.
Review 14:Just thought the en suite was a bit on the small side
Review 15:very pleasant atmosphere, a good welcome on arrival and a clear understanding of the hotel and parking
Review 16:Paying more by using booking.com. Super noisy plumbing. No soundproofing between floors (and I can sleep through a gale). Souless. Postage stamp sized towels. It could be so good, but fails.
Review 17:Freshly painted. Clean.
Review 18:A very friendly hotel just around the corner from The Hoe.The onsite parking although limited was convenient and there were relaxing areas around reception to sit and read the papers etc. Overall pleased with our stay and would go back again.
Review 19:The breakfast is cooked to order and not hot buffet style. The rooms where vacuumed every day, therefore keeping the hotel very clean indeed. The staff were very helpful and always happy.
Review 20:Double bed too small .
Review 21:Modern comfortable decor. Premises very clean and organised. Staff very friendly. If staying in Plymouth again would definately go back
Review 22:Lots of stairs and no lift. We were on top floor, 5 flights of stairs. If you have breakfast in the basement, 6 flights of stairs. Hotel should make it clearer that this may cause a problem for those of us with mobility problems.
Review 23:Location, breakfast, WiFi. There is on street parking but you need a permit from reception ( £3 per day )
Review 24:unfortunate incident with another guest getting his key stuck in the external lock and then proceeding to batter the door as if he was trying to break in at 12.30 in the morning was quite distressing - my husband was up and ready to go and stop the attempted break in!
Review 25:very luxurious rooms and friendly staff
Review 26:Only one thing we thought was disgusting was the fact that dirty stinking smelly. smokers were. allowed to smoke outside the front enterance door, which ment we had to walk through the smoke to enter the hotel
Review 27:our stay was brilliant, every thing was catered for..The breakfast was excellent and.the staff all had a smile for the whole of our stay
Review 28:It had no restaurant but we knew this when we booked and there was nothing not to like in practice.
Review 29:Immaculate - everywhere clean and freshly painted. Friendly staff, good breakfast and off-street parking.
Review 30:Was a pain to go up 2 flights of stairs to room an even more from breakfast room but I survived maybe a lift would be easier from ground level to upper floors .
Review 31:The staff were lovely.nothing was any trouble.breakfast was very nice too.
Review 32:Parking is limited and on-street charges high.
Review 33:Very clean comfortable great staff and good breakfast. Bar is small but well with local beers at reasonable (for hotel) prices
Review 34:I was told that their website indicated that there is no lift. I had missed that for some reason. I am slightly less able than others with a painful right knee when climbing stairs. I would have asked for a ground floor room if I had noticed that there is no lift in the building.
Review 35:Warm , friendly , clean , modern hotel . I would certainly stay again if my work ever took me to Plymouth once more. The staff were great and offered to carry my suitcase to my room which was a great help.
Review 36:There was only two problems one was the bed like sleeping on a plank, and when we checked in the staff gave us a room at the top. climbing four fights of stairs and the hotel was no fully occupied not good for the small saving we made.
Review 37:The room was more than ample well furnished nice white cotton linen, would like to be able to regulate the heat we had all the windows open to try and cool the room.love the short walk to the Hoe.
Review 38:small room .no lift room dark ;dinning room was cold and looked like a school canteen. tables it was like a canteen
Review 39:comfortable bed friendly staff good location .breakfast was good
Review 40:Limited parking facility and as I was a female , it was dark and the street was deserted I had to park quite a distance Away
Review 41:The position of the venue , the breakfast
Review 42:I had a issue with the wifi signal, dropping off often, in my room and in the lobby area
Review 43:Location was very good near the Hoe Park overlooking Plymouth Harbour. Close to historic Barbican section of town. Excellent breakfast included.
Review 44:A real find...great position, very nicely decorated, excellent service from reception staff to breakfast... Service with a smile, nothing too much trouble. Comfortable rooms clean and cosy..will certainly be visiting again
Review 45:Beautifully clean period property, however, to call the room we had a penthouse suite is mid representation. After 5 flights of stairs the fifth of which were very steep, I expected to walk in a room with a wow factor. This fid not happen the room was clean functional, spacious but an attic room not a pentHouse, there was no view and nothing special
Review 46:It's cleanliness, it's position was perfect for the Barbican and the pavilions concert hall.
Review 47:constant hum in the roof area of room 41.... Found it very disturbing...
Review 48:Cleanliness of room and comfortable bed. Great breakfast & very friendly staff.
Review 49:NA - all excellent
Review 50:Excellent staff who have more than just the "job description" customer service -a great crowd with obvious pride in their delivery - I hope they are rewarded with a decent working package of benefits/salary. Breakfast was magnificent - just the right amount but if you wanted more then it was offered!!! Lovely fruit salad with a nice touch of keeping the grapefruit as optional.
Review 51:The staff were excellent and went out of there way to solve any problems there involvement for the hotel shines through I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing stay with no worries
Review 52:There was a bunch of blokes staying in the room above us and they came in about 3am making a huge noise, banging about, shouting, singing. It woke us up and the noise continued for about 30/40 min. Also when parking at the rear of the hotel, you have to carry your luggage around the block to the front of the hotel, or park at the front if spaces are available for £3 a day. Also told that the price should be £10 a night more because of the cost of another person in the room but we booked a double room... Not clear.
Review 53:Location was really handy as we could walk to the pavilion for the show we came to watch. The bed was comfy and the room was nice. The breakfast was also good as it was included in the price and tasted nice!
Review 54:Only bad thing is possibly furniture and chipped bath could be updated considering the price.
Review 55:Staff were helpful, Room was comfortable and had everything we needed and it was in a great location for the Plymouth Pavillions.
Review 56:No lift, but not a real problem unless kids, too many luggage or elderly
Review 57:Great value for money Location Clean, cosy, warm Nice bar Staff friendly and helpful
Review 58:None to mention
Review 59:It is very convenient, not to far from the harbour. The room was very small but perfect for my needs.I would use it again as both my children study at Plymouth.
Review 60:Great hotel closing to sea bay.Large and clean room with a big and cleanwater closet. It's close to railway station and city center.Delicious English style breakfast gave us deep impression. An unforgottenstaying in this hotel!
Review 61:No lift but not a problem for us but could be for some. Lower rooms available on request.
Review 62:Lovely quiet position but easy access to theatre and the Hoe. . Lovely big bathroom with excellent shower over bath. Breakfast very good Parking at rear of hotel but street parking available at reduced rate.
Review 63:The room we were in was up 4 flights of stairs with no lift but not worth complaining about for one night.
Review 64:The room was excellent and the staff were brilliant at communicating and made sure we were having a good time
Review 65:Nothing to complain about.
Review 66:The hotel is pleasant but the staff are really great. The room was compact but very clean and comfortable. Great value for money.
Review 67:There are no phones in the rooms. Ours was on the fifth floor, so if we needed anything we had to come all the way down to reception. The fruit salad at breakfast was mostly tinned so full of sugar. A diabetic disaster! This hotel is slightly over priced for what it offers.
Review 68:FRIENDLY STAFF, CLEAN HOTEL IN GOOD LOCATION CLOSE TO THE HOE.
Review 69:We stayed in attic rooms and they were a bit to hot, even with no heating on. Carpark is only for 5-6 cars so you have to find parking elsewhere if it's full.
Review 70:Really good location for the Barbican and Plymouth night life. Lovely staff, clean rooms, breakfast was great and lots of it! Late check out available.
Review 71:The fact that the bar (open to non-residents) was just under our bedroom. And walls were paper-thin.
Review 72:The facilities and staff were excellent and very professional.
Review 73:Cheap rooms on 5th floor and no elevator. . . puff puff !! Guess you get what you pay.
Review 74:Liked, position, ammenities, friendly and helpful staff, breakfast, decor, atmosphere
Review 75:Our rooms were on the top floor and the stairs to get up to them were steep and hard to carry suitcases up. The bathroom was small. I would recommend to invest in an elevator
Review 76:The friendly receptionist and the reception area had nice decor.
Review 77:The only negative point was there were stairs to the restaurant but no hand rail - my father being 83 struggled a little with this and would have felt safer with a rail in place
Review 78:The welcome was good . I was staying with my father to attend my sons graduation and requested a lower level room for him which was given. The staff were helpful and luggage was stored with no problem after check out to collect following ceremony
Review 79:The smell of the breakfast in the morning up the stairs and into the bedrooms was not nice, we were on the 3rd Floor and it was still very strong.
Review 80:great location to the Plymouth Hoe
Review 81:Expensive for a small single room With tiny single bed. No views Staff grumpy I was told to come back for room but others were allowed to check in.
Review 82:Great location on Hoe.
Review 83:One day, there was no room service. The next day, my towels did not get exchanged, although they were on the floor- but I got them after I asked. Fire alarm through drunken person after midnight - no reset possible for over 30 minutes (it is not the staff's fault)
Review 84:Reception rooms, bar facilities, tea in room, nice helpful staff
Review 85:Parking is a little difficult. The hotel has some spaces round the back, but otherwise you can park in the road at a cost of £3.00 a day for a 'resident's permit'.
Review 86:Great location near the Hoe. Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Good breakfasts. Unpretentious. We would stay there again on any return to Plymouth.
Review 87:Could hear the occupant in the room next door but luckily he wasn't that noisy!
Review 88:Very comfortable single room with an excellent en suite shower room. Both very clean and, I think, newly decorated/refurbished.
Review 89:All to like!
Review 90:A wonderful sanctuary after a turbulent crossing from Santander but an even worse exit delay from the ferry port caused by "temporary" traffic light.
Review 91:Walking up 4 floors to room. No chance of any food in the evening except snacks, no phone in rooms. Rather archaic. Although staff were great they can't hide the basic problems.
Review 92:The staff were friendly
Review 93:Nothing, could not fault this hotel.
Review 94:We had taken our son back down to Plymouth as he is a student here. We have done this trip on a few occasions now and this was our favourite hotel so far. Great location, modern contemporary feel (good size room with high sealing) very helpful staff and great value for money.
Review 95:We visited the area to see my son who is based here . The hotel was a few minutes walk from Plymouth Hoe. The hotel was a lovely place to stop . Breakfast was good and plentiful. The staff were all helpful and friendly . There was a small bar and a couple of nice areas to lounge about in .
Review 96:Hot water not immediately available for late night shower, this was disappointing. However staff explained that it takes up to 10 minutes to come through in evening. Morning shower was okay.
Review 97:A middle of the night fire alarm apparently set off by a drunken guest fiddling with the fire panel took 40 minutes & a visit from the alarm company to reset. Protect that fire panel from drunken idiots. It was a case of 'apart from that Mrs Lincoln how was the play ?'
Review 98:LSophie checked us in and was brilliant. Bright cheerful helpful. As were all the reception staff. Location was brilliant for easy walk to Hoe and Barbican. Stayed an extra night.
Review 99:If I had to find what I didn't like I'd probably mention the size of the tv, which in my room was tiny (but there were three massive mirrors - not quite sure why but probably to make the room look bigger). Also the walls are super thin, I could understand every single word the couple next door were saying.
Review 100:The public areas as well as the room are beautifully decorated. My room was absolutely spotless, don't think I've ever seen a cleaner bathroom. Staff were amazing and very helpful. I loved the possibility to get snacks&drinks at the bar.
Review 101:Would love more shampoo/soap/shower hat in the bathroom, especially in the suite which has a gorgeous bath.
Review 102:Loved the suite, absolutely stunning
Review 103:The eggs for breakfast, was a little undone for our liking.
Review 104:Brilliant location, near the hoe, barbican, Plymouth Sound and Dome. fab room!! Great staff, and the car parking was brilliant.
Review 105:The pillows were not comfortable along with the mattress I suffered back pain. And a safe in the room would have been a bonus.
Review 106:The location was superb, Staff very helpful and informative. Where the food were concerned our needs were accommodated. The cleanliness of both the room and shower room were excellent, the shower was superb.
Review 107:Car parking is cramped and its based on a first come first serve policy, it is easy to park else where thou but you need to either move your car or pay between hours 10 & 6.
Review 108:Central location, friendly staff. Hotel was clean and cosy and with large areas to sit and relax in. Bar was well stocked and prices were reasonable. The room was large both living / bedroom area and bathroom had a window allowing fresh air into room (Room 2, G/F). Breakfast was very enjoyable and fast.
Review 109:Parking, limited free spaces. Needing to park on the street have to pay 10am-6pm
Review 110:The room was amazing and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was lovely too with a good choice of cold and hot breakfast.
Review 111:First class service. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Ideally situated for visiting Plymouth Pavilions, which is just a short walk from the establishment.
Review 112:I usually travel On my own for buisness but this time my husband travelled with me. I was a little disappointed when I arrived to find that there wasn't any evening meal That I could have at the hotel, I wasn't so keen on my bedroom, I found it a little cold feeling and the bed was so low.! As my husband was with me, it was ok to go out and find a restaurant.! The cleanness of the hotel was amazing and liked the entrance living room bedding towells etc.... That was great.' However if I was on my own I wouldn't have enjoyed my surroundings of my room for the money I paid. £82.50
Review 113:Very clean !
Review 114:Difficulty getting wifi and little mobile signal in the lower room. Limited parking which makes it expensive to park during the day.
Review 115:Quiet location but close to the sea and old quarter. Near a good variety of eating places.
Review 116:Several premises nearby are in the process of being renovated. At 5.45 am on 4th August was awoken by very loud hammering noises this persisted intermittingly for ten minutes. My room was a single with en suite which was adequate if a bit cramped, whilst the window faced a wall.
Review 117:Staff were cordial and breakfast v. good.
Review 118:Bed was hard.
Review 119:This hotel is in a great location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. All rooms are upstairs, this is made known at time of booking. Rooms are neat and tidy. Breakfast is fantastic.
Review 120:Feel breakfast should be available until at least 10am. After all we are on holiday. Would have liked somewhere comfy to sit in room.
Review 121:Loved the property. Homely feel. Thought it was really good that we could bring our own food and drink and utilise the sitting room especially as we were a group of 9
Review 122:All staff were very helpful. When we arrived there was no water-at all, but was on within an hour so no problems. Complimentary drink at the bar so happy customers!
Review 123:Street Parking Meters; Breakfast A Little On The Small Side
Review 124:The Friendly Staff The Clean Basic Rooms, With Good Comfy Bed, Cheap Hotel Street Parking Fees
Review 125:Only let down was the size of the single room on the top floor. The decor and bathroom were above average it was only the room size that was a bit disapointing. Would use the hotel in the future but maybe pick a different room
Review 126:The whole stay was excellent. location could not have been better.
Review 127:The reception staff member was unhelpful, and I had to persist to get the kind of attention that every guest deserves ("the customer is always right" principle). The facilities are modest
Review 128:To me, VFM is a key ingredient in all of this, and I gave the property a top rating for this. To me, I was happy to overlook the things I normally expect because of this overriding principle
Review 129:We were on the top floor, which was quite a climb at the end of an evening as there was no lift.
Review 130:Freedom to come and go as we pleased. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 131:I loved the location of this hotel, I loved how the hotel was immaculate and the breakfast was fabulous. We stayed one night and I would highly recommend this to anyone
Review 132:Very thin walls. People in adjacent room talking loudly at 7:00 am on a Sunday morning and woke me. Totally wrong. Shower in my room (24) was difficult to access and dangerous. I slipped getting in and could of hurt myself.
Review 133:Lovely engaging staff and spotlessly clean.Location was good too.
Review 134:Not enough parking. Front door closes at midnight. No night staff. Very bare, spartan rooms. We were unlucky because there was a very noisy couple below us, rowing all night. But no soundproofing at all (could hear every word) and no staff around to ask them to keep the noise down. More a B&B than a hotel, really, in a very run-down street.
Review 135:It was all spotlessly clean. Breakfast was freshly cooked, with a fair choice.
Review 136:Nothing very nice place to stay except they run out of kronenburg
Review 137:The staff were very friendly and efficient great location and the hotel was very clean and comfortable will definetly stay again.
