Reviews for The Wycliffe

Review 1:Was further away from Embrook than stated on Booking .com

Review 2:Kate a very welcoming helpful host. Would stay here next time I am in Folkestone. Was 5Minutes walk from the bus station

Review 3:I was scared to use the facilities as there were warnings posted about blocking the toilet and being charged for it....There was money taken from our card post stay due to mis communication

Review 4:It was only one night

Review 5:The bed was small for a double, as was the bathroom. 50p for an extra piece of toast... Not that we needed to have one, since there was plenty to eat, but it does look bad on the menu.

Review 6:The bedroom and bathroom were clean and modern. The house itself is late 19th century and there's a pleasant historical feel about it. Good wifi connection. Satisfying breakfast.

Review 7:Breakfast minimal & not included in room rate. Shower recess very small.

Review 8:Very friendly & helpful owners. Room clean & warm. Basic accommodation, definitely no frills.

Review 9:I found the price too high for the value (and certainly for a 1 person traveller)... The ventilator in the (common) shower room was very dusty Breakfast was good, but a bit more would have been welcome

Review 10:Friendlines of staff Quiet location Good breakfast the 'bar of trust'

Review 11:Close location to the EuroTunnel (Chunnel) and to several restaurants. Hostess was very friendly and accommodating our very early departure time. (5am)

Review 12:Not very economical compared to other private hotels we stayed at in the UK. Room very cramped. Beds not particularly comfortable.

Review 13:Good location. Walking distance to the old town of Folkestone. Off road parking.

Review 14:I expected this to be a hotel ! and it wass really a B&B . Yes I cansee why this was classified as such but.. It was the same as B&B allthe rules. Hotels have rules but they are not shoved in ones face onarrival even the poor ones. And there is always at hotels someoneproperly around. My apologies if offence taken but I was expecting ahotel as per booking on the web.

Review 15:We didn't necessarily have a bad time here, but when we arrived it did feel a little like we were children on a school trip with all the rules and regulations told to us by the owner and then all the notes around the room of what we could and couldn't do. I appreciate that it's hard to run these establishments and keep them from getting damaged by wayward guests but it was a little off-putting. We paid £60 for a Wednesday overnight and were surprised to find that breakfast wasn't included. The room was very basic with extremely thin pillows and old towels, there was a bottle of cheap shop-bought shampoo/shower gel in the bathroom so to not have any kind of breakfast made us wonder what our money was going on.

Review 16:The location, free parking and wifi

Review 17:The friendly welcome and help offered was much appreciated after a long journey. The owners were available but unobtrusive. The rooms were comfortable and we all felt safe and secure for the night. Breakfast was great, too, with lots of choice.

Review 18:The seagulls woke me up but that is to be expected. This is the second time we have stayed and on both occasions have had a very early start for the Tunnel. We think breakfast should be optional .

Review 19:Would recommend to anyone wishing to stay prior to travelling to Europe, via tunnel Excellent parking facilities for M/Bike. Extremely friendly hosts.

Review 20:Only stayed for one night as we were leaving for France very early the next morning. So only stayed virtually for around 10 hours by time we got there but was extremely happy with the room and the friendliness of the person greeting us was excellent. Would definitely think about staying here again if i was in the area again.

Review 21:It was easy to find and had a great welcome from Kate. The room was large and clean with a nice en-suite so there was plenty of room for the three of us. The breakfast was very good and the staff were kind enough to give us short - cut directions to the M20. All in all a very nice stop over.

Review 22:Cleaners knocking on the door at 0745. My second stay and the second time its happened.

Review 23:Owners are so helpful and friendly. Great location for the Tunnel and Folkestone. Secure motorcycle parking. Garden to sit in.

Review 24:Very clean comfortable room. Off street parking, walking distance to town. Relaxed homely atmosphere. Helpful and friendly staff. Always my first choice when in the area.

Review 25:What's not to like?????

Review 26:Primarily, the friendly attitude and casual relaxed efficiency stood out. For a small, traditional Guest House, the decor, food and comfort was spot on.

Review 27:The Wi-Fi did not seem to work. We would have liked to try the breakfast, but had to rush for the train at 5:50 AM.

Review 28:The lady of the house was super friendly and also had a dog. The nightly view in the backyard garden was beautiful. And the "honor bar" a quaint touch.

Review 29:Having been on the road on a very wet night had a very warm welcome shown to our room very comfortable , for one night Had good breakfast the next morning ,overall friendly welcoming and clean. also car parking adjacent . good value

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:It was very clean and well maintained throughout. Staff were very good Location very good, easy reach to seafront and restaurants. Very comfortable

Review 32:The flush on the toilet makes such a racket that even other peoplesbathrooms can be heard. The bathroom is very very small but functional.

Review 33:The room was large and well equipped very comfortable except the topbunk that had an uncomfortable mattress according to our son. Wedidn't have breakfast as we were on a very early Eurotunnel. Perfectlocation. Owner friendly and welcoming.

Review 34:The toilet had a macerator and above the toilet there was a message saying that if you blocked the toilet you need to pay £30 .As I saw this message I point out to the manager who told us sometimes people trow in it things that shouldn't and they block the toilet including face wipes. It so happened that to flush that toilet properly i need it to flush it 3 times. If the owners want to offer this type of toilet why they don't take responsibility of what happens? The sink was tiny and the shower pedestal base wasn't empting the water enough. In this hotel when we payed we weren' t given a receipt or a breakdown of our payment.

Review 35:Good location for getting the Eurotunnel

Review 36:The room obviously used to be two rooms and no consideration to noise when both rooms are occupied. I felt very embarrassed when, after listening for a long time, I had to ask the couple in the next room to keep the noise down, to be fair to them we could hear every word they spoke and they were obviously not raising there voices.

Review 37:It was my second stay at The Wycliffe, it's perfect for a short stay near the sea, the people are very friendly and helpful, and the full English breakfast is great!

Review 38:Got very poor reception for Wi-fi and not sure about the 30p for extra toast!

Review 39:Extremely friendly, gave us information on how to get to the town and what to do and see when we got there. Would stay again

Review 40:Too many notices about what NOT to do Pillows too soft which spoiled a really good nights sleep

Review 41:Friendly, clean & centrally located, ideal for Euro Tunnel. We were well looked after.

Review 42:How helpful the staff where the way they accommodated for my disability needs and straight lines of communication all the way through to the time we where due to stay. I would like to say a big thank you to them for a friendly stay.

Review 43:Complete crampedness of the room, the bed had a hard mattress & thin duvet covers, the extremely cramped bathroom, other people slamming doors into the late evening & early morning.

Review 44:The member of staff who received us was efficient & the room we were given was clean.

Review 45:The breakfast seemed a bit overpriced at £6.50 per person. I'm sure it's lovely, but we didn't get tempted. Ended up going to town instead.

Review 46:The room was comfortable and clean. We have been greeted by the lovely owner on arrival and shown to our room. Very good value. Would stay again.

Review 47:No dislikes!

Review 48:Close to restaurants, italian, chinese, english. Ate fish n chips in the lovely pub. Walking distance from the coast. Very friendly land-lady, nothing too much fro her!

Review 49:Very helpful with information. Comfortable quiet location with delightful view towards the church. Very easy access to Chanel Tunnel. It was only ten minutes drive.

Review 50:The room we had (no 8) was very small and in August extremely hot (no air con or fan) The en suite bathroom would be too small for a small child, let alone an adult. The bed was probably the hardest most uncomfortable one I have ever slept on (well we didn't) A real shame because I researched the options and based on the positive reviews chose this hotel as my base for a 4 day stay, a trip planned for me to propose marriage to my partner. Unfortunately after 1 night checked out and relocated, had to write off cost of second night which made this experience a very expensive one (well over £140 with breakfast for 2 nights) Found an excellent alternative in Folkestone and I am now engaged, so not a total disaster. The owner was lovely, just got the wrong room I guess.

Review 51:Nice location and freindly staff

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:Nice location, clean, convenient for eating out and Folkestone. Not far from Shuttle. Owner and staff very pleasant. Breakfast good, sensible rules/guidelines about noise etc.

Review 54:Very clean, points you in the right direction for food, not to far out from dover ferry, did't have breakfast, left early to catch ferry, not expensive

Review 55:Bed in a room 9 might have had a softer mattress but I guess that's down to personal preference so it's not a significant criticism.

Review 56:Excellent evening meals; great value for money compared with eating out. We liked the quiet ambiance of the dining room. Situated in a good location in relation to the town.

Review 57:Ordering breakfast the night before. Many places do this, it's just not my preference.

Review 58:The location is very central, yet, even sleeping with the windows open, we heard no noise. Parking off road, for about ten cars.

Review 59:Walls seemed a bit thin- noise travelled from other rooms easily.

Review 60:Comfortable room, friendly welcome from owners. Off road parking, convenient location for Ferries/eurotunnel.

Review 61:Only the number of stairs I guess but the view was worth the daily climb.

Review 62:Large room. External bathroom. Lovely cooked breakfast. Very impressed with laundry ability. Made my day knowing my clothes could be washed for a small fee. Thank you Kate.

Review 77:Friendly welcome and helpful when I needed to change the breakfast.

Review 78:Very close to the Eurotunnel terminal. Friendly landlady. Comfortable room.

Review 79:The location, the owner was very helpful from the time we booked.

Review 80:room 8, bathroom small, shower pressure weak

Review 81:good location, walking distance to restaurants, good parking

Review 82:none

Review 84:The bed was very hard.

Review 85:Pets not allowed in room alone during breakfast

Review 86:It was very hot in the loft!
