Reviews for Invicta Hotel

Review 1:very friendly staff. Good facilities, clean and comfortable room. Best thing was that as it was new years day they did a late breakfast. which was very welcome and tasty after the previous evenings festivities!

Review 2:Although Booking.com did not give the hotel important information that we wanted doubles instead of twins and that we wanted rooms on the 1st floor, the staff were very accommodating and able to meet our needs. Breakfast - good choice and cooked well.

Review 3:There was a problem with the heating radiator of the room, it was not working at all. The window of the room was open when we arrived and the room was very cold (5 degrees C outside) and very smelly. The matresses were very dump because of that. The decoration was quite outdated (the remote of the TV was broken with the batteries coming out). The bathroom was very good because it looked recently renovated. We kindly asked them to fix the radiator, but this could not be done since we arrived in the evening. The reception brought us a small electric oil radiator. After 3 hours it was still quite cold. Then they decided to put us in a room nextdoor. That room was very good. It was larger and it was warm and smelled very clean and tidy. It had a smart 32 inch TV and a very nice bathroom with a bathtub. It is an old building and the first room that we stayed requires immediate renovation, double glazing windows etc. In the second floor we probably had the toilet of the third floor right above our bed because we could hear every sigle flash of the toilet, the water coming down the pipes.

Review 4:The personnel of the reception (two lads) is of high value. They were very helpful in all the problems we faced. They brought our luggage to the second floor, since there was no elevator. They brought the electric elevator. They were very friendly and gave excellent directions for Plymouth. The breakfast area is very nice, but the breakfast variety is small.

Review 5:Being told about a wedding reception being held in the hotel after I had paid. Said wedding reception going on until after 11.00pm and wedding guests using car park so having to find other parking spaces away from hotel. Only a few sheets of loo paper on holder for entire stay, but found a box of tissues and used those instead Getting back from visiting a sick relative and having to hunt for hotel room keys at empty reception desk, eventually we found them along with other keys under a newspaper. Rigid rules on eating times so had to walk around to find alternative venue to eat late lunch/dinner

Review 6:Hop skip and a jump from the Hoe and Barbican Catering staff at breakfast and cleaners were very helpful and accomodating, shame about the woman at reception.

Review 7:The menu of breakfast is very simple.

Review 8:It's very close with the Hoe which is the most famose place in Plymouth. At this visiting, I could know the history this hotel has had.

Review 9:The TV screen in the room was rather small. The wardrobe was a good size but there were only five hangers between two! It would be better to either have more hangers or to use half the wardrobe for shelving. We stayed three nights and everyday the cleaning staff removed a hand towel but forgot to replace it!

Review 10:The location was great. The breakfasts were very good. Breakfast staff were very good too. The room was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay.

Review 11:My only complaint was the availability of parking. The parking area is small and on a first come basis. When it was full you had to find parking on the streets which I had to do on one occasion. This should have been clarified on the booking form, not the reserved space nonsense that did not exist.

Review 12:The Hotel and staff were very good. Gorgeous breakfast.

Review 13:Very close to the Hoe and easy to walk to the Barbican. A nice and comfortable Bar in the hotel. Small enough to chat to other guests and the staff Good Breakfast

Review 14:nothing bad, depends on other guests for noise level. Not sure how it would be in winter with no double glazing, but you can't have large windows and dg so worth the risk.

Review 15:Great location by Drakes bowling green ! Walks onto domain a delight. Obliging restaurant and breakfast room in-house, striving for high standards. If dining out choose location before setting out !

Review 16:Nothing to dislike. We were on top floor i.e. 4 storeys up, so a room lower down would be preferred if available next time we book.

Review 17:Excellent family run hotel, helpful and friendly staff, modern & bright room. Great location on the Hoe. Great choice for breakfast. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Review 18:I booked a room at top of hotel - did not realise this meant climbing up lots of stairs including smaller spiral type stairs towards the top. This was a little challenging for my husband who suffers from arthritis.

Review 19:Very well situated and within walking distance to the main attractions in Plymouth.

Review 20:Friendly personable staff. Warm welcome. Excellent location in the city with parking. Good breakfast and comfortable room. Dog friendly. Had an interesting history.

Review 21:Not great if you are unable to climb steps, lots of luggage is not a problem as Phil carried it all upstairs bless him! but there's no lift

Review 22:Extremely friendly & helpful staff Delicious full English breakfast Great location - Rooms 'cosy' Nice relaxed 'home from home' bar area Clean throughout - Such a shame I was there on business & not pleasure, I would DEFINITELY stay again. Thanks for a great stay :-) (We were 3 colleagues who booked & stayed for the same trip)

Review 23:Room a little small and on the top floor with no lift. This was reflected in the price so no complaints - just for awareness.

Review 24:Location - between city centre and the hoe; nice area. Breakfast was very good. Would recommend and use again.

Review 25:This is a traditional, family - run hotel, with the modern comforts we have come to take for granted. All the family and staff were very friendly and I witnessed them "go the extra mile" for several guests. The only trade off for me was the age of the building meant there is no lift, however the exercise was good.

Review 26:Shower head multi way fitting, and mechanical sink plug required minor maintenance, which, despite making 2 requests, nothing was done. A pair of pliers and a screwdriver was all that was required. Shower head would not stay in position so using it hand held was the only option.

Review 27:Good location

Review 28:The room was well-decorated and very comfortable. It was close to the Hoe and within an easy walk of the city centre. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was also good, particularly the scallop and black pudding starter.

Review 29:The room I was booked in was at the top of the building, up such a small staircase it can barely be navigated. No lift. Room was ridiculously small. The bed filled the room, the bathroom was a shoe box, sitting on the toilet one reaches for the toilet paper on the opposite wall, that is how small it was. The paint work was scruffy and scratched. It was essentially a corner in an attic that they are cashing in on at usual rates. One can get a better room at a Travelodge and pay less. I felt stuck up in the roof with an uncomfortable climb where it was claustrophobic and impractical.

Review 30:position is good.

Review 31:We were on the top floor found the stairs a bit of a struggle, after our breakfast. Our door was sticking and it was a struggle to get in, i did report it. We felt it was ok for one night but no luxury in the bedrooms which was too small for luxury chairs.

Review 32:Very central for the Hoe and going to the theatre. Good selection at breakfast and staff most helpful. It was a really lovely period house and we would stay there again.

Review 33:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Perfect location for an overnight stay before taking the Plymouth ferry to Santander. we didn't want to spend the evening looking for a restaurant so ate at the hotel. It proved to be a great decision and we enjoyed a good quality meal with very friendly staff.

Review 34:Room/bathroom was a bit small but I am aware most British establishments have this problem.

Review 35:Great location, perfect for walking around Hoe Park and adjacent attractions. Breakfast every morning was lovely.

Review 36:Very friendly staff especially Roy thanks for getting us the sausages we like even though we were pulling his leg, good location , clean rooms , towels changed every morning , comfy bed and nice crisp white bed sheets , lovely breakfast with plenty of choices , enjoyed our stay and would go back thank you for looking after us love from the welsh people x

Review 37:The walls are paper thin and the noise from all rooms is unbearable. You can hear TVs, talking all night. We could even hear our neighbor snoring.

Review 38:The location was excellent.

Review 39:Lack of blackout curtains meant the room was very bright after dawn. Insufficient breakfast tables and delays for second morning breakfast.

Review 40:Very friendly helpful staff. Fantastic Breakfast the first day. Great Location. High ceilings light and airy rooms.

Review 41:The hotel is very noisy with creaky flooboards and doors, plus more annoyingly the sound of other rooms bathrooms, our baby was woken twice in the night with a very loud running water sound

Review 42:They were very accommodating with the bed set up we required for our family of 5

Review 43:The staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and during our stay (3 nights). Our room was was a lot better than we expected from a small hotel and as good if not better than some of the national chains of hotels.the food was excellent including the evening meals.breakfast was better than any hotel we have stayed in and was always cooked to order and freshly cooked.parking is limited if hotel is full but reception can supply on street parking tickets for £2.00,which is a lot cheaper than the metered parking.all in all an excellent hotel to stay at.

Review 44:Dreadful attic stairs to a garret- poor maintenance of the building looking tired- requires a lift.

Review 45:Friendly staff, clean room, good bedding, excellent breakfast

Review 46:The shower was a bit of a pain, over bath shower with mixer taps took ages to get right temperature!

Review 47:Lovely stay, breakfast was really good, hotel room was big and very clean. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Plymouth!!

Review 48:A little bit of noise from the outside at night as our rooms gave the street - comes with the great location

Review 49:Owner and family ( and rest of staff) very friendly and helpful. Great advice for where to go, and the best cream teas!! Breakfast was fabulous.

Review 50:There was no safe, the cooked breakfast was cold, the TV remote did not work and the staff were having personal telephone conversations whilst serving us. It was extremely expensive for the service and room that we had.

Review 51:The bed was comfortable

Review 52:Water pressure with the shower was a little low - but we were on the top floor.

Review 53:Staff were excellent - always happy and friendly Great to have free parking also Excellent location

Review 54:There was nothing that we didn't like about the Invicta.

Review 55:Really friendly, cheerful staff. Beautiful piping hot breakfasts with loads of choice. Free room upgrade. Extremely clean & well- appointed room. Comfortable bed with cotton linens.

Review 56:The location was brilliant and the staff were first class. Even though there was a concert on at the hoe(MTV crashes Plymouth). When you got in the hotel there was no sound. Nothing was too much trouble and any special requests were catered for . Lovely breakfast .

Review 57:We were on the top floor - up 58 steps, which was a bit of a trek after walking round Plymouth all day. Also the room was wonky - I fell out of bed at one time because the floor sloped!

Review 58:The location was great and the staff very helpful

Review 59:Mould in the shower. I requested a double bed but got a twin. As we were only staying one night we didn't bother to complain.

Review 60:Good breakfast. We only used the hotel as a late night stopover on the way home from France.

Review 61:Perfect location, excellent value for money, very comfortable room, great view on the city, delicious breakfast, gentle staff ready to satisfy each request…. a very English experience!!!

Review 62:The room, although very nice, was at the very top of the building with the last flight of being very difficult to climb with luggage.

Review 63:The location is perfect, close to the Hoe and a short walk to the Barbican

Review 64:The room and bathroom were rather small - bathroom in particular. Sligjtest noise from other rooms could be heard - would have liked a miniature bottle of shampoo/conditioner/body wash.

Review 65:It was very very clean.

Review 66:It could be difficult for more eldery people to reach rooms on the 3rd floor which are the cheapest.

Review 67:very clean and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent.

Review 68:The room had no double glazing so it was very noisy, from traffic and loud music from an event on the Hoe. No way of locking the door from inside and there was a balcony outside the window, so it felt a bit insecure. Staff were friendly but not overly professional.

Review 69:A good location just off the Hoe, well furnished rooms, friendly staff, clean, good breakfast.

Review 70:My single room was £85 and more than some quality chains charge for a generous double. Stretching both arms out you will touch both walls, so there's no chance to swing a cat. The chinz decor is old fashioned and outdated unless you're into your dotage, which most reviewers seem to be. Lose the chinz, use the single room I stayed in as a store cupboard and provide butter at breakfast and I'd be happy to stay again. Or leave everything as it is and drop prices by 20%. Until then I'll stick with the contemporary decor and double rooms at the national chains.

Review 71:Friendly staff. Perfectly clean. Breakfast was pleasant though serving transfat margerine instead of butter, is penny-pinching and too disappointing for words.

Review 72:Just a minor point. The bathroom had obviously been recently retiled but many of the floor tiles were cracked.

Review 73:Friendly staff. Great location, just a stroll to the Hoe and Barbican areas. Smallish but Airy room. Bed was very comfortable with good quality bed linen and fantastic pillows. Fabulous breakfast. Small off street parking at rear of hotel.

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:It was clean, big comfortable bed, friendly staff and great location. Unfortunately we had to check out before breakfast but have no doubt it would have been good, looking forward to going back and trying it next time!!

Review 76:Shower had nearly no pressure and water was mainly cold

Review 77:Very nice hotel at quiet location near park and sea. Pubs and restaurants in walking distance. Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming.

Review 78:Sound insulation between us and adjoining room not good. Could hear more or less every word that was spoken and the people in that room were not noisy at all.

Review 79:Staff were excellent, very helpful. Room good.

Review 80:Could have done with help carrying a large case up three flights of stairs

Review 81:Room was comfortable even way up at the top. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice

Review 82:3 flights of stairs, not all staff spoke, sewage smell in the bathroom, a rather sad little shower, a few grubby bits in the room & I REALLY didn't like having to hand the key in every time I wanted to go out which actually put me off going out to explore.

Review 83:The location was good & the staff in the breakfast room were lovely.

Review 84:Accommodating and friendly team Felt 'part of the family' when we arrived and left Great breakfast and small bar Very close to hoe and restaurants

Review 85:Chose this hotel due to the good reviews and they were not wrong, lovely hotel, with good views and a short walk from the main town, friendly staff, clean and comfortable and a good variety of choice for breakfast.

Review 86:Only criticism are bar prices I thought over £8 for 2 jack Daniels with a shared bottle of diet coke rather steep!!!

Review 87:Hotel was in an excellent location for exploring Plymouth Hoe! Friendly staff, comfortable room/beds, very clean & excellent breakfast with plenty of choice if you didn't want traditional English! Smoked salmon & scrambled eggs was huge.

Review 88:There was nothing we didnt like

Review 89:Everything - position, facilities, and staff - family run place where nothing was too much trouble to us it is the onky place to stay

Review 90:Room was a little tired, carpet in need of replacing, soiled !

Review 91:Great location, short walk to the Hoe and Barbican, parking although tight. Great breakfast.

Review 92:Bed was small for a double and moved a lot if you leant against it. Window was small. Stairs leading up to the room was slightly in predictable. Could do with a make over and lick of paint.

Review 93:Room was on the top floor. Nice view but from a small window. Great location just off the Hoe. We stayed for one night for a wedding on the Hoe so was perfect for us.

Review 94:Bed was too soft for my personal preference. Parking was limited.

Review 95:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Refurbished room was clean. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 96:We were in bedroom on top floor which was not owners fault as we did not notice this when we booked on internet,

Review 97:The hotel is lovely old house, beware there is no lift so do a phone booking if you want lower floors otherwise lots of stairs. Lovely experience, recently renovated and very well done

Review 98:We was on the first floor and the people in the room above from what I could hear were walking around in circles all night which kept waking us up, also could alway here the toilets being flushed as pipe is next to the window.

Review 99:The staff were really helpful and couldn't do enough for us and the breakfast was amazing. Room was lovely and had a lovely bath (jacuzzi jets in it)!

Review 100:Stairs to third floor were a bit of a trek. Window would not shut (thankfully it was mild). Shower was a bit pathetic but didn't expect much more considering the price.

Review 101:Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, good selection and well cooked. Car park at rear was a bonus as was the free wifi.

Review 102:Great value. Hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. Close to sea front. Premises clean and well maintained. Great breakfast and included in the price! Small car park at rear.

Review 103:Not a corporate cold type of hotel. Floorboards creak a bit and stairs to top floor are steep. However building lovely and owners and staff really pleasant. Good breakfast

Review 104:Shower room was a little small.

Review 105:The location of this hotel makes for a really lovely walk along The Hoe and down to the Barbican. The staff and proprietors were extremely helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 106:its a long climb up to the top floor and the mattress was not very comfortable

Review 107:the hotel is very close to the Hoe and the Theatre Royal, which was the reason for our visit. The whole place was spotlessly clean.

Review 108:No complaints.

Review 109:This is a friendly family run hotel where they listen to guests. I requested an easily accessible room and this was provided. The hotel was clean and warm and the food was good. Appreciated the fact that room lighting was good enough to read by.

Review 110:Parking. Few places in off street parking so had to hunt for something on street.

Review 111:The staff were incredibly welcoming & the room was one of the cleanest I have seen for this price level. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 112:unfortunately had a couple arguing in the next room at midnight which was an unwelcome first for any hotel I've stayed in. maybe the walls could be a little thicker

Review 113:very friendly and welcoming, a lovely hotel which is well presented throughout. great location for eating out in the Barbican, city centre shopping or visiting the university and the Hoe.

Review 114:Long climb to the room, heating not working but supplied an electric radiator. Advertised a restaurant but not operational at this time of year.

Review 115:Good location, nice view, clean, friendly staff. Good selection of restaurants near by.

Review 116:Room was a disgrace if it wasnt nearly midnight i would of left,i would rather of gave the room money to the nearest tramp.the place needs to be flatened.it would take me to long to describe this dross.

Review 117:when i left.

Review 118:Our booking, although confirmed to us on email, had not been entered into the system for the hotel so they had no record of our booking or payment. Thankfully there was room but it could have been an issue.

Review 119:The receptionist was helpful and friendly

Review 120:Reception, Lounge area, Food was excellent, People there were all very friendly and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone either on business or pleasure.

Review 121:Had to walk out the front door and round the hotel to get to car park, situated at the back of hotel. But this I see is a minor issue

Review 122:I like the fact the staff did not have a problem with me arriving early. As such they moved my room . An upgrade to ensure I was settled before my meeting in the city.

Review 123:My room was at the very top of the hotel and no lift available. 6 flights of stairs.

Review 124:Nicely appointed Hotel with parking. Staff made an effort to get me an early breakfast. Good breakfast.

Review 125:Noisy staff ( chatting loudly ) when not around to help.

Review 126:The location being so close to the beautiful Plymouth Hoe and yet very close to the city centre and all amenities . Excellent breakfast .

Review 127:Room we had was terrible wallpaper hanging off, a big slope across room (wierd) pillows like paving slabs. Not worth the money, use the Drake instead!!!

Review 128:Wifi, breakfast & staff really nice

Review 129:Made to feel welcome, Betty, Roy and little Roy and all there staff made it a lovely stay for us, nothing was too much trouble for them, will definitely stay here again. Thanks guys

Review 130:The Invicta was a really nice change change from my normal chain hotels. The room was a joy with a beautiful high ceiling and great decor and while the dinner menu was simple but very tasty. The free Wifi was a bonus, being good enough to stream live football, unlike many other places I've stayed.

Review 131:The other members of staff should to take note of Carole's customer service. The room needed some TLC on the decorating side, but couldn't fault the cleanliness.

Review 132:The room had everything we needed. Member of staff, Carole was very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast couldn't be faulted. Location and parking was excellent.
