Reviews for George & Pilgrim – RelaxInnz

Review 1:The history of the building is impressive. We were shown the 500 year old tunnel that ran from the Abbey. It was very easy to imagine the monks bedding down in our 'cell' after a night of indulgence. The staff were all very attentive and helpful, bar lively and food good in the evening.

Review 2:The room I had was without any view. There are rooms with views at the inn I would have preferred.

Review 3:The breakfasts & dinners were very tasty. Team of staff friendly & welcoming. Lovely historic inn near to the Abbey. Christmas was a good time to visit. Nice ambience.

Review 4:The George and Pilgrim was one of the worst places I have ever stayed in. The pub is filthy and completely off putting as you go up to your room (that is after making your way through all the men smoking around the entrance and throwing their fag ends everywhere). The bed was incredibly uncomfortable with springs that you could feel right through it - to be fair they offered another room but this was on the ground floor by the bar (the second floor was noisy enough) - you can not sleep until midnight and can clearly hear conversations downstairs. I had to carry my cases down two flights as no one was around to help. The manager had apparently popped out (and the man serving breakfast refused to find anyone to assist with the hairdryer that was broken as in his words "She's a right dragon.") I left the hotel in the freezing cold with dripping wet hair which has made my cold far worse over Christmas. The gentleman serving breakfast was dressed in dirty clothes and had a fag hanging out of his mouth - I declined breakfast. He was rude and unpleasant and made it very clear that no hairdryer working really wasn't his concern. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 5:The service was a little slow, although staff with pleasant enough. The place generally is a little tired looking beyond its obvious historical age. The heating system in our room needing adjusting by us to stop it making a significant noise

Review 6:Our room was lovely and its location was perfect. Atmosphere of the inn and its history

Review 7:My single room had a shower but no bath which I would have preferred, but this was a very minor point. No fruit or yoghurt at breakfast.

Review 8:All of the staff were very welcoming and friendly, a great asset to the hotel. The room was warm, clean and comfortable and I slept very well. The hotel building itself is wonderful - do ask for a room in the old part of the building.

Review 9:Loved the hotel. Great location right in the middle of Glastonbury and run by a lovely couple who had only taken over 3 days before we arrived. I'm sure they'll make it even better and I'm looking forward to seeing how they're doing in a few months time.

Review 10:No one to help with bags as stairs very steep Food very average Breakfast only served for one hour!! No Sunday or evening meals, strange for a hotel

Review 11:Atmosphere Bar

Review 12:I'm a ghost hunter and the staff would tell us there stories and I showed them pictures I had taken on previous occasions being there very interesting pub with wonderful staff thank you for our great stay xxxx

Review 13:The bathroom smelt like dirty cloths had been used to clean it, however this could easily be rectified.

Review 14:The location, the history of the property and the friendly landlord.

Review 15:Fantastic reception by very friendly and helpful staff. Bedroom was magnificent with stained glass windows, antique furniture and four poster bed. Food was lovely. Right in the centre of the town...will definitely be back for another stay.

Review 16:Sleep disturbed by neighbouring bathroom extractor fan several times in the night

Review 17:Loved the atmosphere and new "bosses" were brilliant. Unfortunately missed out on Dennis' promised tour of cellar so will have to go back.

Review 18:Breakfast was a little run of the mill but included so we didn't mind ! Bathroom a little tired - we had a knock on the door telling us the shower was leaking into the bar below, but stall fixed quickly and very friendly.

Review 19:Fantastic location and real character - we booked a four poster room and it was just fantastic. Great atmosphere.

Review 20:Everything was good.

Review 21:We had an excellent 4 poster room with an extremely comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The food at the hotel was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. The location is very central in Glastonbury.

Review 22:Despite a difficult weekend for the staff (kitchen difficulties), the staff did their absolute best! Have stayed there before and looking forward to going back again.

Review 23:I wish they had breakfast later. 8-10h would be great

Review 24:The location was awesome!! The staff was so kind and welcoming. Not to mention the delicious breakfast. Overall an awesome experience!

Review 25:Nothing. The hotel was everything we expected from an historic building and much more

Review 26:Our room was fantastic. Facing the street and with a four poster bed. It was large and full of character. Including the ghost!! Very good en suite with a fantastic shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when one of the guests had a medical emergency. They definitely went the extra mile.

Review 27:Alarm bells should have rank when on check kin the member of staff.Handed us the keys along with the television remould. Payment t wasdemanded. Food was poor quality evening meal returned to the kitchenpork chops burn both sides. Manager was requested but was unable tospeak to us at the table offered a free drink on the house. Room wasdirty, Shower room light bulb over mirror broken, shower head separatedfrom pipe.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Food was poor particlarly poor on Sunday evening. Most staff were friendly enough but some were disinterested.

Review 30:Nice central location in an interesting place.

Review 31:Love the unspoilt historic interest and the great atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good English breakfast and lovely evening meal too. Have stayed here before and will be back.

Review 32:I don't like the way people put this beautiful little hotel down people expect the ritz when it's over 400 years old, it's old full of charm it's floors are wonky and creak it's furniture is old but it all adds to your stay.

Review 33:Once again a lovely stay. The room was amazing the staff always very friendly.

Review 34:Hotel had a poor wifi connection but could be some sort of technical problem but overall very happy with stay!

Review 35:Love it there ideal location in centre of town near shops places of interest etc Old and rustic and has charm! Very nice atmosphere staff friendly Biscuits with tea/coffee facilities :)

Review 36:wifi very hit and miss, towels hard and very small.

Review 37:Location was great and the atmosphere fantastic. Food and drink of a good standard and friendly people.

Review 38:Check in time is 14.30 and check oyt is 10.00 the next day, which is very early. Breakfast is included, however is only served between 8-9am, which is limiting

Review 39:The George and Pilgrim is a unique place due to its history snd is located in central Glastonbury.

Review 40:The barman wasn't particularly friendly. He preferred to serve regular customer's than paying guests

Review 41:Loved the room we stayed in. Very clean and bed comfortable

Review 42:Glastonbury high street was run down I suppose when the festival is on it would have a better atmosphere.

Review 43:The hotel was such a nice place to stay with all the history. The room we had was huge and the four poster bed was so comfy.

Review 44:When we wanted to check in the staff member said 'you'll have to wait, I'm busy". Everything seemed to be an effort for them, we felt we were an inconvenience.

Review 45:It is a perfect location to park the car and wander Goastonbury.

Review 46:Massive problems with the room facilities. Lots did not work. Waited 20 minutes to give our order for dinner so walked out in the end. parking a nightmare.

Review 47:Location

Review 48:The staff were really helpful and friendly, the breakfast was great and the location right on the high street was perfect. We stayed in rooms in the old 'haunted' part of the hotel, but all slept well including the little ones, and they loved being a bit scared. We told cider-fuelled ghost stories late in the cosy bar before bed time!

Review 49:- very thin walls prevent sleep if your neighbors are noisy (and an insomniac above us listened to the radio whole night - it's a pub, so you won't sleep till they close down (but we new it)

Review 50:- full of character, old furniture - central location

Review 51:Only problem was stairs as I have bads arthritis - steep, circular and low handrail.

Review 52:Excellent location, very characterful, nice big shower, clean. Staff helpful.

Review 53:The Wi-Fi dropped a lot (but I didn't use too much). The overall was good

Review 54:Staff very efficient and friendly, bathroom very clean and also towels and bed linen

Review 55:Surly and unhelpful bartender insisted he would only check us in when he had time... continued to serve customers at bar all of which arrived after us. Ultimately I dug someone out of the kitchen to check us in. Matress on Four poster bed very uncomfortable. Wifi signal very poor. The only hotel I have ever stayed in where the TV remote is issued on arrival and then collected with room key on checkout. Corridors used as storage for linen in transit to laundry so access with bags tricky.

Review 56:Rooms 9 & 10 are appalling. Filthy stained carpets, broken window panes, decrepit furniture, dirty walls & paintwork, no TV reception, hugely over-priced. Would not want to eat here - we left before breakfast. There are some serious health & safety issues at this "hotel".

Review 57:Externally, the medieval building is beautiful.

Review 58:It was extremely noisy from outside activity into the early hours, and therefore hard to sleep - Then the TV went on loud in the next room - and stayed on from about 5.30 - 8am - If you value restful night, this is not the place.

Review 59:It is a special building due to its history and age, the atmosphere is lovely, the staff on reception functional, but not particularly warm or welcoming.

Review 60:I didnt get a remote control and forgit to pick it up. I think it would be good to have a bell on check in desk as I waited for 20 mins to check in

Review 61:Beautiful room. Staff very friendly. The waiter at breakfast was very lovely and had ecellent manners.

Review 62:This is a beautiful property in the heart of the town, but suffers sever neglect by the owners. They don't need to worry, because the location means the hotel is always full.

Review 63:This hotel was built in the 1400's and has a lot of history.

Review 64:Uncomfortable bed,not enough staff behind the bar or on reception,,glastonbury is very noisy at night even on a weekday,,the smoke from outside smokers wafts into the first floor room

Review 65:Location,history,beer,food,

Review 66:Wifi is free which is great however it wouldn't work in the room. The rooms are pretty much unchanged which is what you like to see but this does mean it isn't in a great state of repair

Review 67:The location is great for shopping and eating, being right on the high street and easily accessible for Street or Cheddar

Review 68:The bed mattress was wider than the bed so if you moved to the edge it you fell off. The flat screen TV was the smallest we have ever seen, looked about 15 inch. WiFI not the best. Very tired decor.

Review 69:Great location right on the high street, sat outside people watching staff were friendly. Good breakfast.

Review 70:The bed was really uncomfortable, springs were stinking in me all night. Not enough parking!

Review 71:I loved the hotel, the staff were friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast

Review 72:Boiler had broke down so no hot water for the stay(a discount was offered). However not being able to shower or wash was not good.Room very dated and carpet dirty and worn. The boiler engineer was not at all happy about the state of the wiring and mentioned it was dangerous!!!

Review 73:Hotel atmosphere good. The staff friendly and helpful(Mark and Paul especialy)The breakfast was excellent and the location good.

Review 74:The parking could be better;3 spaces on a first come first served basis is limited for the size of the hotel. The rear seating area in a little grubby and neglected but difficult to maintain due to it's usage. However, it wouldn't deter us in future.

Review 75:Lovely clean room, comfy four poster bed, great shower, free wifi, good breakfast and friendly staff - all the essentials needed in a great old building, full of quirky details and features that is in a brilliant location. What else could you need?

Review 76:Unfortunately we didnt see a ghost !!!

Review 77:Lovely building, full of character. Fabulous room overlooking high Street. in perfect position. Lovely breakfast. We would definately stay there again.

Review 78:My only issue was the four poster bed was described as being 6-7 foot wide but it was just a standard double. Very disappointed and felt a bit conned.

Review 79:Staff, location, gorgeous old building with beautiful features and lots of history.

Review 80:Old with character; a few chips of paint here and there but it all added to the real old world of the place. Right in the heart of Glastonbury perfect spot, with a little history thrown in.

Review 81:Came down for a wedding...could not of asked for a more pleasant and friendly place....staff and food were lovely very helpful. ..rooms excellent. ...thank you...

Review 82:Being immediately over a function room with a loud band playing. Will check and avoid weekends next time.

Review 83:Almost everything. I have stayed there 3 times in the past. Excellent beer too.

Review 84:On the weekend there was two bands playing in the building. One wasdirectly below our room. We didn't get one of the really old roomsshown on the website.

Review 85:The location was central. The room was comfortable and spacious. Thebuilding was quaint.

Review 86:Some noise late at night from the pub courtyard, but when I complained it was silenced immediately.

Review 87:An ancient hotel full of Glasto charm. It is a bit tired in places, but that was all part of it. Room was smart and clean. Folk singers in the bar were great. Good value.

Review 88:The beds which were crawling in bedbugs, hotel could not provide any other rooms so was forced to drive home in the early hours of the morning

Review 89:The location, decent pub food, atmospheric

Review 90:Bath area requires small repair.

Review 91:Very spacious ensuite room with four poster bed and antique furnishings full of character as mentioned. Fantastic bar area again full of character serving quality food and drinks.

Review 92:The decor is getting just that bit shabby around the edges. Carpet's going thread bare and the more modern fixtures and fitting are looking dated (in a bad way). The windows in our room (7) need fixing as one pane was held together will Sellotape and when it rained water leaked from the ceiling down the wall.

Review 93:Perfect location right in the middle of the town. Beautiful old building with tonnes of character and staffed by very helpful and friendly staff. Food was good and reasonably priced. Had a solstice selection of mead that we enjoyed sampling. Great breakfast.

Review 94:i liked everything!

Review 95:Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed the stay! We were both amazed by how well maintained the hotel is! Will totally stay again if we ever get to go to Glastonbury again! So close to all shops, abbey and Tor! Highly recommended!

Review 96:Room 10 Smell of sewage in en'suite that comes and goes. No running cold water, both taps where hot water.

Review 97:Breakfast/gluten free and the service was of good curtious quality:)

Review 98:Rooms outdated dust on the extremely high light fittings, windows didn't shut on one side there was a big gap at the top (good job it wasn't cold) other windows had no netting up.

Review 99:Had a wonderful stay only problem was the bed was uncomfortable and rooms could've been updated, especially as we paid a high price in my opinion. Breakfast was lovely staff were excellent couldn't do enough for us.

Review 100:The Bar is effectively A very separate area from the Hotel which is a good thing. Glastonbury has been wrecked by " New Age "Travellers. The High Street is horrible ! Beggars, Hippies, and the drop outs. It,s time for the Citizens to regain control.

Review 101:Hotel staff did their best in difficult circumstances.

Review 102:I have found it frustrating that there is a strict rule for breakfast serving times 8am earliest, which is not good for business trips

Review 103:I have stayed at this hotel a few and found it to be clean and very welcoming and would recommend for a short stay.

Review 104:Whilst the bathroom was clean, the room had a dirty carpet. The common areas were filthy, with cobwebbed windows, and there was ripped wallpaper everywhere, with ripped carpets on the common area circular staircase. Plaster was falling off many of the walls and staircase. Not sure which decade the hotel was decorated or cleaned in the common areas. There was no lift and the stairs were very steep in a circular staircase.

Review 105:The hotel is in an excellent position in the centre of the town, and is full of history and character. The breakfast was good. The staff were friendly, helpful, and definitely alternative, and mostly ageing hippies. Which is fun and good.

Review 106:We were allocated in room 9 which is a family room although there was only my wife and myself. Even making allowances for the age of the building, our room was nothing short of terrible. The carpet was stained to such a degree that rugs had been put in "strategic" places i.e. were the worst of the staines were. The bathroom ceiling was covered in mould and there were cobwebs in abundance in the pellets. The service was ordinary, the breakfast was just about passable - none of the crockery matched. The level of noise transmission from room to room is not acceptable. We unfortunately paid £134.00 for a single night's stay - this is a total rip off. They have a fantastic opportunity with the age and history of the building to make a stay memorable - they certainly did achieve this for all the wrong reasons.

Review 107:The location

Review 108:Parking - paid car park out the back - convenient but you had to pay to stay during the day.

Review 109:Beautiful building full of character and charm, with wonderful friendly staff

Review 110:single bed very slightly on the small side for me but then im 6 feet 5. stairs are rather tight.

Review 111:location and convince of location friendly staff and great food.

Review 112:Staff attitudes, breakfast, rubbery scramble eggs, tinned mushrooms, very cheap low quality sausages, no Gluten free or dairy free options, despite it being on the booking request, dirty rooms, no mattress covers, Broken bath panels, threadbare towels, threadbare carpets, uncomfortable settees, windows that cannot be closed, bedside lights you have to get out of bed to operate, a t.v. that cannot be viewed unless you move a heavy settee, broken windows. pidgeon muck inside the room. main light out in bathroom. no room to shower comfortably as the shower curtain is too close. Only tea or coffee as drink options, no herbal teas or hot chocolate. Window blinds that did not reach the cill.

Review 113:Leaving

Review 114:I'm sure it was a one off but there was only one member of staff on arrival and she was too busy in the bar to check us in.

Review 115:Location and the building itself.

Review 116:We expected, having paid that amount of money, that we were definitelyable to have a meal, unfortunately when we went downstairs at 7.30 pm,we were at first told there was a wait until at least 8.30, then aftergetting a drink were told we couldn't have a meal as there was aparty of people who arrived so they shut the kitchen to the peoplestaying, which we found quite disgraceful. Not much of an apology fromstaff. Paying guests should come first, we had to find another pub toeat in,(not much around for eating in) the pub should be able to copewith extra people or say no to them, not us, so won't be riskingthat again. The bar area was so packed struggled to get a drink, manywere already drunk and didn't move and staff didn't help ornotice. The window in our room did not stay open as it was broken and itwas a hot night, should have been checked by staff, by the time werealised it was late. Cobwebs on ceiling near bathroom fire door, notnice and floor of bathroom so slippery it is dangerous, we managed tosave ourselves many times,AWFUL,no slip map, but tiles were cracked andneed to be replaced by different type of flooring. We managed to find alovely pub at the back of this one with amazing friendly staff and openkitchen, food was delicious and there were lots of other guests fromThe George who were having a meal as they were turned away from there, they were not happy that they couldn't eat in the pub they werestaying in.

Review 117:Staff were lovely, pleasant and helpful most of the time. Breakfaststaff were lovely.

Review 118:Apart from the warm welcome, the generosity of spirit shown by all we met, the great comfort and delicious food we were so intrigued by this ancient( and spooky!) Hotel we will return!

Review 119:Don't expect modern luxury. The bed was not very comfortable. If you need the window open, there was traffic noise at the front.

Review 120:The ambience. The room had a 4 poster bed. Breakfast was included and good. Evening and lunchtime meals were good.

Review 121:Although an old building (and one where you would expect it to look a little tired) it is no excuse for really shabby cleaning and standards. The bed linen looked clean but on closer inspection was blood stained and the kitchen and dining area was so filthy we left without eating breakfast the next day. The place needs a good clean and/or a health and safety inspection! Really disappointing and overpriced.

Review 122:Tired, shabby, overheated rooms. Decoration like dirty protest in Maze prison. Management running lovely old hotel into the ground. Don't pay more than 40 pounds for room, not worth a penny more.

Review 123:Staff friendly but complaint about overpriced, dreadful room directed to Relaxinnz who hide their contact details. After ages tracking down email complaint still not replied to. Avoid Relaxinnz.

Review 124:Can't think of anything worth mentioning.

Review 125:Medieval interior and exterior. Staff are pleasant and make you feel welcome. Breakfasts are freshly cooked and are credit to the hotel trade. Not the kept warm buffet affairs you get with some large hotel chains.

Review 126:Wonky Floor (my wife loved it though), initially didn't have my reservation.

Review 127:The quirky period features, staff, location. Although they initially didn't have my reservation they sorted it within 10 mins.

Review 128:We couldn't find the ghost!!

Review 129:We loved the array of Glastonbury characters who worked in the hotel. Very friendly and helpful. Good beer and good food.

Review 130:Although it was an enjoyable experience there are some improvements that could be made. The restaurant staff could be a little more attentive and a bit more professional. Handing mayonnaise from the jar with no spoon or bowl to put it in was a little sloppy as well as not finding out prices when asked. I would have liked to see the staff also go the extra mile a bit more, it appeared that if it is not there then it is not available. The.The sliding window in the bedroom was broken. The hotel offered breakfast from 8am to 9am. For leisure customers this was a bit early and somehow felt an hour is rather short. 8am to 10am would be easier for the guest to choose. Breakfast could also be served in the room for an extra fee? It was all good but something fell short here and was not the usual hotel style that we are used to where staff are a little more attentive. The WIFI hardly worked, it was terrible.

Review 131:We both enjoyed the laid back feeling and the friendliness of the staff and the history of the building is fascinating and the four poster room we stayed in was delightful. If you want a friendly easy going and relaxed style of service then this is great choice but if you are looking for the tiny extras then this hotel falls short.

Review 132:Having to pay for parking in the public car park as you can only park for a certain length of time and not return within two hours. Ok if you are driving out for the day but if you don't want to take your car you are stuck

Review 133:Everything lovely old building full if character great staff

Review 134:we stayed in the King Henry vIII room. Holes in carpet, Most draw handles broken or missing, shower hose leaking.

Review 135:good location, pleasant and helpful staff and the rich history of the building.

Review 136:I had paid for 2 nights in advance but was called for work duties after only 1 night. I had to forfeit 1 night. No refund

Review 137:I love the feel about the hotel. Was my 3rd stat in one year.
