Reviews for Penrose Bed & Breakfast

Review 1:So clean and comfortable, and everything we needed was perfectly accessible. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and the whole ambiance was so lovely :)

Review 2:Lovely welcoming home in a very central location. Everything tailored to provide comfort with lots of lovely special touches such as complimentary sweets and hot chocolate in rooms and an honesty box shop for those desiring a midnight feast.

Review 3:Wouldn't change a thing

Review 4:Very comfortable, friendly hosts, lots of little touches like board games, books & good tea & coffee selection in room. Breakfast excellent, vast selection.

Review 5:Cooked breakfast starts at 0815, so I missed that due an early start - .

Review 6:Great family run B&B, very friendly owners. Room was spacious, clean, and well stocked for brews! Home-made marmalade for breakfast :)

Review 7:It is a very beautiful old house, run by extremely nice people. There was every comfort we could wish for and we have no hesitation in highly recommending the guest house.

Review 8:We booked a luxury king room, and felt a little disappointed with the tired decor, road noise, and wonky toilet seat......

Review 9:Comfortable bed, Great breakfast, easy stroll into town.

Review 10:The traffic was a little noisy from the main road, but we got use to this and it did not spoil our break in Cornwall.

Review 11:The owners were very friendly and welcoming and the B&B was in a good location for visiting many different places in central Cornwall.

Review 12:Ordered porridge for breakfast on first morning and was given ready brek, not had that since I was a child, so didn't bother with that again, just has fruit and toast, but my husband had cooked and was happy.

Review 13:Close enough to walk into high street for dinner in the evenings.

Review 14:The bed squeaked a little and the bathroom door handle was a little noisy.

Review 15:The warm welcome, comfortable bed, clean room and very well prepared breakfast.

Review 16:The owner met us as we pulled onto the property he was very helpful even giving us a map of local places to eat. We found The Royal Oak where we had a excellent meal to be a lot more accommodating than the Globe.

Review 17:The TV was small and due to the age of the building the room was initially very cold, took a while to heat up. Lovely small town within walking distance, but little to do and the restaurants/pubs that are available are very expensive.

Review 18:Lovely scenic location and the owners are very welcoming and friendly. Room was very spacious and clean.

Review 19:Chris and Heidi were so welcoming and warm, as was our room. It was clean and homely with lots of lovely touches, apart from an extensive selection of teas/coffees, there was wine glasses and bottle opener, cotton buds and balls even a bowl of sweets. Breakfast was freshly cooked and fabulous. The whole weekend was lovely. Definitely will book again.

Review 20:Could not use fan in loo as it annoyed people in the next room. Water pressure was not good when having a shower also went from hot to cold.

Review 21:Being greeted on arrival in pouring rain with umbrellas

Review 22:Room and facilities were excellent. The village is lovely, well worth the time to look around, and the location is very central to lots of great places. Chris and Heidi are fantastic hosts. Recommend to all

Review 23:We liked it all!

Review 24:We were made to feel welcome immediately and our accommodation was very clean, comfortable and with all the little extra touches and hospitality that made the stay memorable. Excellent breakfast with a good choice of freshly cooked food. The location was perfect for us with plenty of local facilities and the Penrose provided us with an excellent base for our visit to the area.

Review 25:Going home

Review 26:Chris & Hedi were very accommodating, they have a very clean pretty B&B with lots of character , a lot of nice touches ie, sweets etc in the room , chocolate for sale various places just pop your cash on the plate ,

Review 27:Chris & Heidi were so friendly , our room had everything you could wish for in it. There was nothing else we required. Breakfast was superb.Hats off to them both!!

Review 28:Only thing we didn't like was having to use the back outdoor steps into the car park rather than the front door, to enter and exit the property.

Review 29:Beautiful house, great breakfast. Helpful hosts. Good location, nice town with really useful community centre/tourist information centre.

Review 30:pillows slightly hard but obviously this is personal preference

Review 31:Heidi and Chris are fantastic hosts Warm welcoming atmosphere well appointed rooms very high standard of breakfast

Review 32:Very nice B&B, clean and comfortable. Great view of the town from the bedroom. Very good breakfast. The host and hostess are very friendly and helpful.

Review 33:Chris and Heidi were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic hosts - the whole experience was wonderful - we will be returning. Thank you for a great stay .

Review 34:location - difficult to spot coming into Lostwithiel from the west. Tricky turn just by the escape lane

Review 35:Owners have thought of everything you might want as a guest

Review 36:Chris and Heidi made us very welcome, Beautiful House and surroundings, great breakfast, loads of choice. Plenty of places to eat and drink within 10 minutes walk. Our Room was spacious and comfortable and Filter coffee was a nice touch.

Review 37:Nothing. We had a great time and would happily go again.

Review 38:You know the friends house you love going to because it's all so lovely and they cook great food-well Penrose is just like that. Chris and Heidi were just lovely people who are so accommodating-I was on my own with my 4 year old so this was wonderful. The rooms are really comfortable and homely. Breakfast was fabulous and plenty of choice. We just felt so welcome and it was a lovely place.

Review 39:the location is great & easy to find . The hosts couldn't be any nicer and the room was charming and comfortable. If we travelled to that part of cornwall again we would definately stay here again

Review 40:Nothing to report !

Review 41:Very helpful to the first time visitor, good local knowledge and current OS maps and guide books. The fridge ! The freshly-prepared breakfasts. The huge room and comfortable easy chairs.

Review 42:Very friendly and helpful, room was comfortable: although not huge, quite adequate enough. En-suite WC & Shower, which suits us fine. Lovely breakfasts. Parking can be double-banked so you do have to let the proprietor know if you are needing your car early. We stayed for 2 nights in order to go to a wedding in Lostwithiel. The Penrose was just right for leaving the car to walk to the church!

Review 43:I was in the self contained unit with separate kitchen and bathroom. So much space for me and the dog to stretch out. The place was very clean and welcoming with LOTS of nice little extras like the bowl of sweets and the cans of drink for sale.

Review 44:Location not good for people with mobilty problems as up steep hill, can't do poached or boiled eggs !, coloured towels and bedding ( if you call a room 'luxury' you have to have really good towels and bedding pref white ! ), too many frilly cushions and knick - knacks, temperamental shower ( went cold if other people turned on taps etc ) To be fair this is explained in advance but surely there is a solution ? Lovely house but rather dark and gloomy. Hideous plastic tablecloths in the dining room, road noise.

Review 45:Warm welcome, comfy bed, spacious room, good storage, very generous hospitality basket ( tea bags etc ), helpful hosts, lots of maps etc to borrow, good views, well cooked breakfast with good produce.

Review 46:Lostwithiel a quiet small town, but with several good pubs and restaurants. Owners were very helpful and had many good tips about local area. House is beautiful and our room was large with a beautiful outlook.

Review 47:Chris and Heidi were the friendliest of hosts. They clearly love what they do andClove sharing their huge house with guests. My room was huge and had everything needed. The breakfasts had a large selection of cooked (most locally sourced) and cereals etc. And fantastic value for money.

Review 48:The owners Chris and Heidi greeted us and our pet like we had known them for some time. These lovely people know how to treat their customers. The welcome continued throughout our stay and the cooked food stood up to its reputation, excellent!! We will visit again. Thankyou for a lovely couple of days.

Review 49:The fact that the pubs and take aways shut before we got to them

Review 50:Chris and Heidi were both very helpful, the room was very clean and spacious. They provided us with plates for our dinner. Breakfast was very good, cooked to order

Review 51:my only dislike was the bacon at breakfast, it was very watery and went tough and chewy when grilled, but everything else was great.

Review 52:The room was beautiful, well equipped, and very comfortable, the bathroom was well laid out, very clean and fairly spacious, not at all cramped.

Review 53:The room was a little bit too hot for my liking and the cushions on the bed had zips and decorative knots on them, which made it a bit too uncomfortable to sleep on. Swap the cushions for straight forward pillows and it would have been brilliant!

Review 54:Large spacious room with good views, kitchen facilities and large bathroom. The hosts were extremely pleasant and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent local and home cooked fair.

Review 55:Nothing to complain about

Review 56:Spotlessly clean and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast with great choices. Made to feel very welcome and nothing too much trouble

Review 57:Everything - friendly, welcoming hosts who gave good advice as to where best to eat, etc., directions to places in town. Lovely room, comfortable and spacious

Review 58:I spent two nights here in an extremely comfortable and cosy 'flat'. I was collected from the train station by Chris and welcomed at the door by Heidi. They are a very friendly couple and I felt very well looked after. The breakfast was cooked beautifully, the housekeeper was lovely, my rooms were spotless and there were lots of imaginative touches such as toiletries, sweeties, biscuits and plenty of teabags! I would have no hesitation in returning here and would recommend this B+B to anyone visiting the area.

Review 59:Everything, room was perfect, hosts fantastic, house is amazing, nothing is too much trouble, price was great and location beautiful for mid winter short break, definitely stay there again.

Review 60:That we were only there 1 night. Highly recommend

Review 61:Friendly welcome from Hosts Chris & Heidi. The accommodation was very comfortable with all facilities. The breakfast was first class, all at an excellent price.

Review 62:I'm nitpicking, slighty better internet coverage, and maybe a heater in the bathroom.

Review 63:you can see the owners take great pride in their hosting their guests. The B+B has to be the cleanest place I've ever stayed, very high standards all round. Not only did we have a big room, but a large kitchen and bathroom. Good english breakfast with locally sourced products. Great attention to detail.

Review 64:Disappointing that the ensuite did not include a bath when booking details specifically mentioned a bath. Asked the owner but got a curt reply and no apology. Unfortunately there was a horrible smell of blocked drains in the ensuite bathroom and this drifted through to the bedroom. Being at the front of the house, road traffic was noisy all night but this was made worse because of the rain. Breakfast was disappointing - chosen cereal was damp (I guess it was a packet which had been sat there in a while) and my cooked veggie breakfast was very small and filled a quarter of the plate.

Review 65:Location was great. Room was comfortable and warm and very clean.Great value at half the price you would have to pay if booking directly with owners.

Review 66:Chris and Heidi make everyone very welcome to their home. We had a lovely break to see Eden with lovely meals in the local restaurants. Penrose was excellent value for money.

Review 67:The Fog on our week away !!

Review 68:Everything, faultless and spotless. Chris and Heidi have a beautiful property and we were very privileged to be allowed to stay in their 'home'. Everything from the welcome to our departure was never a chore for them. We will certainly return in the near future and have no problem recommending Penrose to friends and family.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:Chris and Heidi very affable and welcoming. Loved Lostwithiel and surrounds. Lovely breakfasts. Beautiful old house fully restored and lovingly maintained by hosts.

Review 71:We originally booked for two nights but had to cancel the first at the last minute. Heidi and Chris were very helpful and managed to relet the room, saving us money. Our one night with them was very comfortable and the breakfast very good. A lovely B & B.

Review 72:We thought Chris and Heidi were lovely and so friendly, they really made us feel comfortable and welcome. We came away for a break whilst doing mountain biking. We will definitely be coming back :)

Review 73:The parking was quite difficult.

Review 74:Chris and Heidi were very welcoming and helpful. I especially liked all the extra touches such as a selection of teas in the bedroom and being able to borrow OS maps of the area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were freshly cooked and delicious.

Review 75:Chris and Heidi are a lovely couple and very accommodating. Our short stay was very relaxed and the little town centre of Lostwithiel is a hidden gem.

Review 76:We chose the Penrose because it was near to the places we wanted to visit and it was lovely. The room was gorgeous with everything you could possibly need, the bed was the most comfortable bed (except ours) we have ever slept in. Breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you

Review 77:Tricky to locate as the address didn't show on the NAV.

Review 78:Lovely place. Friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are beautifully decorated and there are some lovely photos around the B&B.

Review 79:We can't think of anything !

Review 80:Friendly and welcoming B&B run by owners Chris and Heidi who obviously take great pride in maintaining an excellent and well deserved reputation.

Review 81:Although at the beginning we easily missed the turn to Penrose. After phoned them, Chris was really helpful with the direction. We had a great time in Lostwithiel. Really comfortable room, fabulous breakfast and great host. Would love to come back again.

Review 82:Chris and Heidi who own Penrose B & B could not have done more to make our short stay more pleasurable. Our bags were in our room before we knew it and having shown us all the facilities, we were provided with a map and recommendations for local places to eat in the evening - they were spot on! A lovely well prepared breakfast and then guidance for visiting the local Restormel Castle showed a caring couple who wanted to meet the needs of their guests.

Review 83:Parking a little tight but host did valet parking so okay.

Review 84:Rambling old building but well maintained in a very traditional way. Solicitous host and hostess. Lovely breakfast. Perfect.

Review 85:A little bit of traffic noise, which was not a problem when we shut our window

Review 86:The room was very cozy, the breakfast was superb, the sausages were the best I have ever had and the hosts made us feel very welcome and at home.

Review 88:professional service, nice breakfest room, lovely house, hospitality of the owners and their knowledge on places worth to be seen, close to the town center /good restaurants, pubs and antics shops

Review 94:Very spacious room, great amenities and great hosts! Breakfast is great!

Review 95:Very friendly and welcoming as within 30seconds of pulling in the car park was shaking hands with Chris and Heidi . Bags taken to room and shown around, also a map of what the town has to offer.

Review 96:nothing

Review 97:Everything to like. Chris and Heidi were excellent hosts, very welcoming and nothing too much trouble for them. Beautiful large room with all creature comforts and more. Delicious choice for breakfast from cereals to a full English, including Heidi's home made marmalade. Highly recommend staying here and will stay here again when in Cornwall

Review 98:When we arrived we were met by Chris who took care of our luggage and Heidi who was welcoming and attentive to any needs. Chris recommended a lovely pub for us to have an evening meal. The room was spotless and comfortable and breakfast was excellent, catering for all diets. We would definitely recommend the Penrose and won't hesitate to stop there again when visiting Cornwall.

Review 99:Breakfast was great, our room was lovely, nice hot showers and comfy bed! What more could you want! Owners very helpful when we had no signal to use our mobiles and had to make a call. They also recommended local eateries for us to try and also provided us with a map of the town. Every base was covered! :-)

Review 100:Absolutely nothing at all to dislike.

Review 101:Everything about this B&B was exceptional, from the lovely warm welcome from Chris and Heidi to the quality and comfort of the room - and the excellent breakfasts. An outstanding base for travelling around Cornwall.

Review 102:Parking a tight squeeze - need to plan ahead to use car. Room would have been a tight squeeze for two people in this double. Only a shower, no bath and very small bathroom.

Review 103:Attentive and friendly hosts Location for places of interest Good full English breakfast Attractive-looking property

Review 104:There was nothing not to like. Parking is interesting but well organised, so is no problem.

Review 110:nothing, it was just perfect

Review 111:The best B&B from a list of very good ones on our roadtrip. Chris and Heidi are just welcoming and helpful great people. Coming home to Penrose at night made our stay in Cornwall even better. Great breakfast and clean rooms.

Review 112:Everything !! This was a beautiful B&B and the lovely couple who ran it were delightfully accommodating. If we had not stayed there I am sure we would have missed out on all the wonderful sights that this side of Cornwall has to offer- Chis &Heidi told us to visit Fowey (rhymes with Joy) and Pol Perro 2 lovely fishing villages that haven't changed much from the 15th century!!! . The room was very large with a comfortable bed and an updated bathroom that was very clean. I would recommend this B&B to anyone!!

Review 113:one thing only: there is no good light to read in the bed!

Review 114:over all the good breakfast (great offer) Chris and Heidi create a familiar atmosphere in their home penrose is quite good located to see many nice spots in cornwall

Review 115:Room was facing main road, which is noisy. Also, was just opposite the dining area, so some extra noise from inside. Might be much nicer with a better room, but I would avoid room 6 if possible.

Review 116:Nice and friendly hosts. Lots of local information. Nice breakfast. Good quality products (shampoo etc).

Review 117:The rooms were a good size. Very clean, with good facilities. We had a room with a kitchen, which had everything you would need to do your own cooking. Close to town. Were given a map with all the eating places marked, which was a nice touch.
