Reviews for Earl of Chatham

Review 1:excellent location with very friendly staff and locals in the bar. the place itself is a little dated but this gives character as the building is very old

Review 2:The radiators weren't working in our room,so the wife was feeling the cold, so I had to give her a couch.

Review 3:The log open fire, breakfast and atmosphere

Review 4:Rooms are above the pub which were a little noisy, didn't have ensuite which was a bit disappointing. Would recommend for a night away if you are local but not really for business travel. Although staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 5:The room was cold and unaired when we arrived - fortunately the heating worked well in the room but not in the bathroom along the corridor. Room 2 is great, room 1 less so!

Review 6:Lovely friendly staff, good beer and food. We could not have felt more welcome.

Review 7:I was sent an email stating that I hadn't paid a cancellation (we chose 1 room after cancelling 2 rooms booked through booking.com.This was wrong as everything was sorted with the pub, however the owner was a bit brusk with her telephone handling of the situation, perhaps she was panicking,booking.com were at fault I believe, but even so her attitude put us off from staying again as we planned to next year.

Review 8:friendly barstaff,nice decor,average room,good breakfast

Review 9:Our room was not ensuite (not obvious until after we'd booked). Bathroom was along a corridor and down some steep steps. Latch on our bedroom door was broken. Room could do with updating and redecoration.

Review 10:Breakfast was good, and pub served very good food in the evening.

Review 11:The quiz was a bit loud, but it was finished up by 11. The lock on the en suite wasn't working.

Review 12:It's in an idyllic village, it feels very relaxed and the staff do what they can to accommodate special dietary requirements.

Review 13:The staff were incredible and sorted out any problems I had. The cash machine in the town was broken so they sorted me out with money. The bed was extremely comfy and I had such a good night's sleep. A very pleasant stay!

Review 14:Room 1 had musty aroma (damp dog?) and tired furniture. Bed reasonable, private bathroom on landing. Thin walls and floor between room and noisy Bar below, but quiet by 10.45 pm

Review 15:Good breakfast, free parking, room adequate for money for a couple of nights, staff friendly

Review 16:Paper thin walls, if you have one deaf ear and can sleep on it, or can wear ear plugs you will be fine. Lack of a bedside stand and lamp on one side of bed. No shampoo...had already seen there was no hair dryer. Wi fi only worked in hall or parts of lounge. Lack of flat surfaces to put things in bathroom and bedroom. Arm chair was a really small one. More a boudoir chair.

Review 17:Very clean, comfortable bed. Good food in restaurant. Good shower. Good size room.

Review 18:Could not get consistent access to wifi

Review 19:Polite helpful staff who went the extra mile to help solve problems. There during rail strike so they found out about buses etc

Review 20:Bathroom was a little tired but completely functional, even the quirky plumbing

Review 21:Easy relaxing and friendly with a location that is like stepping back in time. Character houses and no fast food outlets. Lovely walks all around

Review 22:Wifi didn't work for us unfortunately bit noisy from people in the bar when we went to bed.

Review 23:Food good and comfy beds. Good facilities in rooms. Good location for stopover.

Review 24:1. Rude staff 2. Extremely tired decor and sub standard room - don't trust the description as its incorrect 3. Would not recommend staying there

Review 25:Food good

Review 26:Bathroom light didn't work, quite noisey- in a pub so it's to be expected, very loud doors.

Review 27:Lovely food, most staff very friendly, nice sized room +huge bed and fabulous shower.

Review 28:Doors were very heavy to open and bedroom door could not be closed without having to be opened with key or someone inside. The bathroom was private but down corridor which meant that you could not leave door closed to go to bathroom without taking key.

Review 29:Quiet for a pub

Review 30:WiFi signal nit that good which suited me but not my 15 year-old!!!

Review 31:Firstly all the staff were great and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was a great way to start the day.

Review 32:Couldn't access wifi upstairs, this was only a problem for me as I had a job interview that I needed to prepare for.

Review 33:The staff and the breakfast were lovely! The facilities are good and the pub is lovely full of friendly locals.

Review 34:Great little place in great location to explore the local area and beyond, with friendly locals and amazing staff with 5star treatment. Could not be more accommodated and welcomed, just what you need for a little get away or more. Can't wait to return as we will be back and would recommend this amazing part of Cornwall to anyone who seeks am authentic stay in this magical part of the world. Thank you once again for a great stay, see you again soon guys :-D

Review 35:When I arrived after long day just wanted to have a shower ready for my next meeting. Advertised as free wifi but only in a couple of spots in bar. No biscuits.

Review 36:The pub and staff were lovely had a nice glass of red wine in front of the open fire.

Review 37:Going to the private bathroom at the end of the hallway, would have liked the bathroom in the room, wife need's the toilet quite a lot in the night time because of the medication

Review 38:The breakfast was Fab.not swimming in grease ,The log Fire was well inviting,The evening meal was very good. Friendly people and NOT FORGETING (MAX )THE GUARD DOG..

Review 39:not the most comfortable bed; ancient sash-windows drafty and rattling in the breeze with only a venitian blind when a curtain would have stopped the draft; WiFi so unbelievably slow as to be non-existant; no 3G connection

Review 40:friendly welcome, cozy pub, good traditional pub-grub and some fine local ales; pleasant fresh decor of the room; fluffy towels; a good breakfast; convenient location for nearby attractions and short walk into town

Review 41:Furnishings in room dated. Expect noise as rooms are above the bar.

Review 42:Staff very friendly. Nice comfy bed and warm room. Lovely deep bath. Great breakfast.

Review 43:Party going on in the bar and sound travelling through the old building, but I understand that was probably as busy as its ever been - especially on a Sunday night.

Review 44:Snowy white sheets, comfortable bed, lovely staff and friendly locals in the bar. Excellent atmosphere. Very welcoming towards my dog.

Review 45:Room and shower room a little on the shabby side and cold

Review 46:Very warm welcome Dog very warmly greeted and genuinely welcome Lovely food Food very economically priced Lovely atmosphere in bar Can eat in bar and have dog with you

Review 47:wifi was poor - had to perch on the stairs landing to get connected

Review 48:everything apart from the wifi signal - although gave me an excuse not to do any work

Review 49:we found the accommodation very clean and comfortable and the food was homemade and delicious, we could not fault it at all and the portions were very generous. The hosts were very friendly and we found the local people who drank at the pub very friendly to talk to as well would consider another visit in the not too distant future

Review 50:Poor internet connection. Slightly noisy but no more than we expected as it is after all rooms above a pub

Review 51:Convenient location. Comfortable beds Excellent food

Review 52:Very friendly and helpful staff, we enjoyed our short stay very much. The 'local' atmosphere of the pub was excellent, all in all a lovely stop over.

Review 53:Very basic room for the price, hardly room to swing a cat. Described as on-suite, well it almost was! The toilet was down the corridor. The photo of the room on the web-site was nothing like the room we stayed in.

Review 54:Pleasant staff, good breakfast

Review 55:The bed was up against the wall on one side, with no room for a bedside table and light.

Review 56:Excellent food, both in taste and presentation. Great breakfast. Very friendly mother and daughter team in charge who create a hospitable atmosphere. Smart shower and good- sized bathroom.

Review 57:Sound carried from the Bars and the outside patio area. It would probably be fairly noisy on a busy weekend

Review 58:Typical pub accommodation, good food and a decent choice of locally produced beers. The room was comfortable with a good sized bed and a very large private bathroom. The Eden Project was just 10 minutes away. also handy for exploring this part of the Cornish coast

Review 59:Wi-Fi intermittent including unable to use card on leaving - had to go to ATM for cash.

Review 60:Very friendly owners and staff. Good food. Comfortable room/facilities. Easy stroll into town.

Review 61:I can't say I didn't like it but be prepared to travel bytrain if you don't have your own car with you as it's a bitout of the way.Another alternative is bicycle hire for the week.

Review 62:In a lovely wee village that hasn't been hit with touristattractions etc yet.CAR PARK: At rear of the property. FOOD: The breakfast and meals at the Earl of Chatham were tasty with some inventive dishes. In Lostwithiel there is one local shop (a Co-op), one fish & chip shop (closed on Sundays) and one Chinese takeaway; a few nice wee pubs that do food and noticed one bistro. STAFF: Couldn't have been more helpful. NOISE: Website had said there would be noise from the pub below especially on weekends. This didn't bother us as we were up late and are both heavy sleepers anyway.

Review 63:Window in bathroom had very little privacy as overlooked and only short net curtain. Maybe blinds would help.

Review 64:Lovely area, very friendly helpful staff. Very good value for money. The locals are friendly too.

Review 65:Wifi wasn't particularly good, dropped in and out.

Review 66:Fantastic food Excellent welcome, the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Would absolutely stay again. Would suggest no good for family with young children as it was noisy as the rooms are over the top of the pub, but we didn't mind, when in Rome,..... Etc

Review 67:Nothing

Review 68:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was very clean and tidy, the facilities were very good, the location was good for the surrounding area. Would definitely stay there again if in the same area.

Review 69:It is above a pub so don't expect it to be quiet. Comfortable and clean but don't expect luxury for this price!

Review 70:Lovely staff! Really central to get to places in cornwall. It's well worth the money, lovely evening meal and breakfast was included had good choice.

Review 71:No bath in our room as described. Requested bottle of wine for rm, request was not met.

Review 72:Beautiful stone walls, wood beams lots of character. Very friendly staff. Lovely food. Will go there again.

Review 73:The bar below the rooms could be a problem on nights when visitors were less than exhausted I imagine. This was not a concern on this occasion

Review 74:Character and friendly service combined with good facilities and good food

Review 75:NOTHING TO NOT LIKE

Review 76:Location excellent for getting to all of Cornwall's attractions, very good value for money both for room and also in the restaurant, food ecellent and very good portions, locals very frendly and warm as were all the staff nothing was to mutch troble.

Review 77:The mattresses could do with replacing. Wifi was only available in one corner of the room and was not accessible in the main area.

Review 78:The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Meals were generously proportioned and very tasty. Rooms were a good size and very clean.
