Reviews for The Boat And Anchor Inn
Review 1:Sue the proprietor was lovely and went above and beyond with service at mealtimes. The twin beds and room were very comfortable. Although it was near the M5 it was not noticeably noisy either.
Review 2:The pervading air of gloom and misery, not helped by the smell of sewage, the unwelcoming welcome, and the fact that all the guests seemed to be people who couldn't find anywhere better to stay.
Review 3:The canal and the view of the fields. Near Bridgwater.
Review 4:No provision for safe storage of expensive bikes even though previously requested Pub internally could do with a makeover Breakfast limited options Staff not overly friendly on arrival
Review 5:Canal side location
Review 6:NOISE!! Room was so noisy we did not sleep (air conditioning unit) PLACEMENT - Next to the motorway, no other places to visit within walking distance
Review 7:Loved the staff - really friendly
Review 8:Everything felt as if it was done on the cheap, particularly breakfast; the plainest thinnest white bread, small portions and a reluctance to do boiled eggs. The bar staff had no knowledge of which beers were local or not.
Review 9:Good choice of drinks at the bar, especially the ales. The room was comfy and clean.
Review 10:We have stayed at the Boat and Anchor frequently and are always made extremely welcome by the staff . Michael the owner is very friendly and will go out of his way to accomodate you. He even got out of his bed at 12:30 in the morning as our Ferry was delayed from Santander to Plymouth to let us in .The food is excellent and the rooms are spotless and very comfortable.First class full breakfast too . We will be staying there again next year . Thank you Boat and Anchor . Mick & Carol Foster
Review 11:I attended a wedding reception, the carvery meal was SUPERB, the atmosphere and friendly staff helped make it a very special experience. The B+B was excellent as was the evening buffet.Thoroughly recommend a stay. Thankyou Sue and staff!!
Review 12:Happy to iron my own shirt - iron and board could be provided
Review 13:They offered to iron my shirt at no charge Food was good (evening meal & breakfast)
Review 14:sat nav location was somewhat adrift, how ever one found easy to locate again, far enough from town to be country near enough to be convenient
Review 15:Warm friendly welcome and happy helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble
Review 16:I loved everything!
Review 17:The happy, cheerful, and very helpful staff. Very polite. Room was lovely, overlooking the canal. Plenty of hot water and the meals were excellent. I would stay there again.
Review 18:Terrible service - possibly the worst we've experienced in Britain. The manager argued and was very rude; food was late because of "a mess up in the kitchen" and we were locked out of the garden because "we don't know where they keep the key!" Avoid this place at all costs.
Review 19:Location near canal was good, but very remote.
Review 20:Local pub with good access to motorway and Bridgwater. Next to canal, so easy to have a pleasant walk. A bit noisy with the motorway close by, but no worse than being in an impersonal travelodge at a service station- and far better value for money. Accommodation in an adjoining purpose built block, spacious. Good choice of beers in the pub and I understand the evening meals are good pub fare.
Review 21:Hairdryer would have been nice . The bar was closing at 9.45 when we arrived - we nearly missed check in .In hind site should have called ahead .
Review 22:The owner and his team were friendly and helpful.
Review 23:The woman who owned the place was rude And made us feel unwelcome Breakfast wasn't included in the price Although it was described as bed AND breakfast???
Review 24:The rooms were nice
Review 25:We were in room 7. There was a vibrating noise all night. We initially thought this was a washing machine the other side of the wall, but in the morning we realised that it was the cooling unit in the bar. Therefore I think this room must be directly over the bar. It was quite noisy with both the continuous vibration noise below and the traffic from the nearly M5 flyover.
Review 26:Staff friendly. Evening meal good and well priced. We received breakfast even though we came down after the closing time, which we really appreciated. Location on the canal is lovely and the patio is nice. Room was nicely decorated and clean.
Review 27:The bed was extremely uncomfortable ,you rolled into the middle of it.I had a bad back the next morning from it. We had 2 sirlion steak meals ,a pint of cider and a j20 and was charged £42.60 absolute rip off charged for something we didn't have this was just for the steak no starters or dessert.
Review 28:The place was very nice and relaxed, clean
Review 29:In need of tlc. Room was nice but a lot of noise from motorway and due to position of room above kitchens there was a constant noise through night of a very noisy generator / air con unit so no sleep
Review 30:Location convenient for motorway liked canal side location
Review 31:The room was spotless, the bed really comfy and they had an awesome grey parrot and a Rottweiler puppy. It was incredibly bad weather and we were forced to stop for the night, so it was a very welcoming sight! Nice local Cider!
Review 32:On first sight I thought that the M5 would be cause for worry, but from the room I had...No problem.
Review 33:The staff were very cheerful, obliging and helpful. The menu is great pub food, with the Lamb a speciality, get your order in quick, it soon runs out. The Full English breakfast is a great way to start the day.
Review 34:Very difficult to locate this Inn. Sat nav was not wrong as it did take me to the right postcode but with no access to the Boat & Anchor !!!!
Review 35:Staff were nice. The property was in the middle of decoration so lacked a bit of style.
Review 36:The noise from the plumbing and the M5. The bouncy floor that made my bed shake.
Review 37:The staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was well presented and tasty. There was a large car park. The parrot was amusing.
Review 38:we arrived after the kitchen had closed and landlord did us dinner speciallY. Overall fantastic and the comfiest bed ever especially after five nights in a tent at Glastonbury
Review 39:The grumpy landlord the other staff were lovely.no hairdryer or iron.
Review 40:Room was clean and comfortable. Hotel is undergoing refurbishment our room had new bathroom and comfy beds.noise from motorway due to location.nice to stroll along the canal.food pub grub.
Review 41:To be fair they do say modern rooms. Though it may have been nicer to overlook the canal. Breakfast was adequate though strangely only jams, no marmalade. The orange juice jar spout looked dirty.
Review 42:The Shower! Newish rooms, motorway noise not too bad. Between this and the travel lodge opposite I would have to say here, for the canal and restaurant. Though paying double is a bit over priced.
Review 43:Service could have been better (although staff were friendly) breakfast also could have been better although the breakfast room was pleasant (conservatory). We were disappointed that despite it being a pub the bar shut around 9pm so we were unable to get a drink when we returned from our night out
Review 44:Location was great for us, just off the M5. Room has been recently refurbished and it was very nice, bathroom also great with a nice roomy power shower (no bath)
Review 45:Stairs and corridors tatty and a bit smelly. If I had paid full price I would have given a poor review.
Review 46:Comfortable and clean room. The WiFi was easy to use. Quiet indoors in spite of proximity to motorway.
Review 47:There was a fusty smell in the hallway to the rooms. I think there may have been a slight damp problem?
Review 48:Food was excellent and huge portions. Friendly staff. Room was clean and tidy everything you needed for a good nights sleep.
Review 49:Lovely people , really good food an in a peacefully location , the room was small but it had everything I needed an was very comfortable highly recommend it
Review 50:To many keys & a key code for me to deal with but i do understand why the necessity.
Review 51:Only a one night stopover. We had a warm welcome on our 10pm arrival. Nice clean rooms, The TV worked, we had no use for the wifi therefore can't comment on it. Breakfast ok. I liked the Canal location and close proximity to the Town & M5 Ideal for Travelers stopping en-route. We loved the Parrot it just loves to laugh, brilliant! Wouldn't hesitate using the Boat and Anchor again.
Review 52:The sat nav will not take you anywhere near the place and there should be a warning about this. The owner did phone me to say the restaurant part of the hotel would be closed. But when we got there the whole place was closed and my wife and I were the only guests. Ended up in Bridgwater at a MacDonalds. If you like to sleep with your bedroom window open the Hotel is no more than 100 yards from the M5.
Review 53:The room and the bed were good
Review 54:You Can't see the Key Code Numbers to press for key Code to Get In when Dark. Took an Hour to Get in as I couldnt See.
Review 55:The Staff were very Friendly and Helpful.
Review 56:East check in ,helpful staff took us to our good sized clean room with all the expected facilities. Good choice of tasty fare for breakfast after a really good night's sleep
Review 57:Room was cold when arrived - room 9 - however once the heating came onthis warmed up.. This was not the case within the on suite bathroomwhere the light switch actived an extractor fan - htis took all theavailable warmth from the bathroom which was cold to start with.
Review 58:Food was ok..
Review 59:I booked to stay at The Boat and Anchor Inn on Friday 31 October 2014 & Saturday 1 November 2014. Which I was charged £198.00. I stay in Room 7, where there was no Hot Water in the Shower and the Shower was not working. Also, other people have stay at The Boat & Anchor Inn.where there was no Hot Water in the Shower and the Shower was not working. I left a note on the Reception Desk on Saturday Morning, to no avail. Therefore, I did not get what I paid for and require a fully refund. In the meantime I look forward to your reply.
Review 60:Only one slight comment, the annex door was spring loaded, to ensure it closed. If guests were leaving early, the slamming of the door woke us up.
Review 61:The location was tranquil, yet close to Bridgwater. The Staff and Owner were very chatty and helpful. The Inn felt comfortable with a relaxed style about it. Meals were good. The Annex bedrooms were ideal. The Inn and bedrooms were clean and comfortable.
Review 62:Don't use your sat nav ..... It took me to a totally different place .... Thank you to a community officer who help me
Review 63:Both ladies were really nice and made me feel very welcome .... They couldn't do enough for me .... The fried breakfast was freshly cooked and yummy ..... Shower was lovely and hot ......
Review 64:Basic facilities but you get what you pay for. Shabby and in need of a re-furb but nothing outrageous Weak shower
Review 65:Good location being just off the Motorway and clean rooms
Review 66:On arrival the member of staff made us feel welcome. Our room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We were able to have a drink in the bar and make use of the lovely garden. Glad we chose to stay there.
Review 67:Stopped over on my way home from Newquay with our new/old bug, great location, friendly staff, lovely food,I had the steak and a good drinks selection at the bar.Nice beer garden, motorway is a bit noisy but you do get used to it and windows in room see off most of noise, good stay
Review 68:Doors are very noisy and kept us both awake with people coming in the evening.Hard to find with a sat nav but very easy to see from the .M5.
Review 69:The setting on the canal is very nice.Rooms are a good size.Nice size shower.Food good.
Review 70:Didn't find it value for money with an overnight stay and dinner and breakfast at £130 it's to much
Review 71:It only took four minutes to find from the m5 motorway and got us away quickly in the morning
Review 72:Wifi!!!
Review 73:Great welcome 1st experience of the ever helpful Sue showed us our firstGuinness surge thank you x Michael and Amanda were veryaccommodating. The food was great, service was excellent. Thanks all for agreat stay over. Love from Paul & Steph.ps looking forward to going back.
Review 74:The outlook from the rooms was poor expected to look out over canal. Noisy location near railway and motorway. No air-con so had to have windows open. Choice at breakfast was disappointing.
Review 75:Bed was comfortable and shower was larger than average.
Review 76:Dark smelt of damp on way to rooms, furniture was junk, room full of old spider webs and both dead and live spiders, bathroom had mould, really small and carpeted! The bedroom carpet was badly stained. Got charged twice on my card and had to go to card company to get refund, was sworn at by staff when calling for refund.
Review 77:value for money. Not
Review 78:the owners allowed for the fact that the hotel is right under the noisy M5. could not hear any noise from inside the room unless the windows were open.
Review 79:The unwelcoming staff.....we booked in (signed a piece of card) and told rather smugly that breakfast was not included....but we could have a breakfast each for £7.99! We were given a set of jail keys (I mean room keys). The bar attendant then proceeded to show us with as much gusto and enthusiasm as a kid being told it's got to go to bed which keys opened which door. The bathroom shower was so tiny and narrow that my size 10 frame touched all sides and my nose brushed against the wall when turning round to get the shampoo. Slight bit of advice take a bottle of 'one-does-all' as the combination of the misty spray and compact area means you have to fumble about with your eyes shut unless you don't want to see for the rest of the day.I'm all for minimal waste and recycling but don't really feel that to finish the previous guests bottle of miniature shampoo is that hospitable. The bed was clean and a nice decent size for two.. Width ways.....However I could waggle my feet off the edge whilst rubbing the top of my head against the headboard. The hotel advertises a TV in every room. That is true. However it fails to inform you that you only get to watch half the TV as the screen has also given up the ghost....probably joined the other half of the bottle of shampoo! So we decided to have a drink in the bar to relax. My partner chose a pint of cider but didn't order the 5 inch hair complete with head scab attached that came with it. Unfortunately this was discovered post first gulp and retrieved like a magicians hanky from the back of his throat! As for the food....either take your own packed lunch or drive out.On leaving we handed the key back to not so much as a thank you or enquiring as to our stay and proceeded to pack the car to make a hasty retreat only to be greeted with the sight of a woman towelling herself down in one of the rooms through the not so opaque glass.
Review 80:The canal side location sells this hotel online. It appears for all intent and purposes the ideal booking at a decent price. It is easily found even though it is down some country lanes. The room was clean. It's only major advantage of being very close to the M5 is that next day we were up, packed and away post haste!
Review 81:The breakfast although good could have been hotter. The noise of the motorway nearby, although you did get used to it eventually.
Review 82:The location on the banks of the canal. The room was very good and clean with a lovely view over the canal.
Review 83:emphasis on us paying rather than welcoming us on arrival. indifferent food. NOTE building work didn't help appearance or atmosphere.
Review 84:We were on a canal walk so its location on the canal was crucial. Comfortable sitting areas in the pub.
Review 85:Shower controls were broken, staff didn't smile on arrival I was greeted rudely. The landlord closed the bar early. Internet didn't work.
Review 86:Bed was comfy, good was ok
Review 87:Bar closed at 9pm as there was nobody drinking in the bar :-(
Review 88:Lovely location right by the canal, rooms were clean, nice furniture and beds really comfy, food was very nice
Review 89:I had advised of late arrival yet the place was in darkness when we got there and I had to phone to gain entry. The whole place seemed a bit "tired" and could do with a bit of modernisation. The wifi code I was given didn't work.
Review 90:The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Plenty of car parking. Friendly landlord. No disturbance from other guests, the motorway or railway line.
Review 91:Friendly staff. Quiet. Great food and parking facilities. Nice location, on the canal bank.
Review 92:Very friendly staff, have re-booked to stay again.
