Reviews for Queens Hotel
Review 1:Great sea view room. Fantastic sunrise. Good breakfast. Really friendly staff. I liked the attentive way they looked after the older travellers in the hotel.
Review 2:The Disco on Saturday evening had no quality of sound and no umph to make you want to get up and dance. It was dissapointing as previous entertainment has been ok. We left early
Review 3:Nice room, warm and excellent view. Good size bathroom
Review 4:Entire ensuite needs refurbishing, broken safety lock on door of bedroom I was staying,so there was no privacy.Bath falling apart, very grubby in bath.No central heating, imitation radiator was in place the size of bow heater, pour lighting.MY OVERALL STAY WAS A DISASTER.DIDN'T GET VALUE FOR MY MONEY.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Too many non guests using the car park, every single day.
Review 7:Room comfortable and well serviced each day. Food excellent and dinning room staff superb although l personally thought their manager was too pushy and too demanding of them.
Review 8:The room was very tired, the carpet was moth eaten and there was a large hole by the window. Breakfast was burnt and there were no sauces available, no butter or marmalade to go with the burnt toast. The waiter explained this was because the table I had been directed to had already been used by some guests and he had not had the chance to replenish the basket. He was extremely busy.
Review 9:the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had a great view of the sea.
Review 10:Only complaint was not really informed about times in the restaurant for booking evening meals
Review 11:The view from the room was superb & for a older hotel the general decoration was A 1 Beds comfy just like the rest of the hotel very very comfy.
Review 12:Nothing at all!
Review 13:The view out our window - the Eastbourne Pier - amazing! Go to the Crowne and Anchor for dinner - yum. We had a pigeon in our room for a short period of time - just visiting I guess!
Review 14:breakfast - very basic, had a feel of a canteen despite being in a very grand room Entertainment - poor and a little sad, maybe does work for the main age group staying here
Review 15:old fashioned hotel that has been updated in character
Review 16:Lots of pensioners leaving at 7am talking loudly in the corridor, banging doors and waking me up on Sundy morning!! Not the hotel's fault!! But how selfish can you be??
Review 17:Wonderful Victorian building with very large beautiful public rooms
Review 18:We didn't think the evening meal was up to scratch although the breakfast was very good. We also found the room a little cold at times as the heating seemed to come on at different times.
Review 19:Staff very friendly and helpful, great location with lovely sea view room.
Review 20:the bed we had was not comfortable not like the last time we there when the bed was great
Review 21:excellent meals with great waiter service, staff always willing to help, very enjoyable entertainment in the evenings
Review 22:Dining room a bit like a school refectory, but obviously there's a high volume and turnover of meals to be served.
Review 23:Seaview room (upgraded from twin to family) was really lovely. Reception staff very helpful when I asked for a room change. Lovely old fashioned hotel. Easy car parking. Very close to the pier and seafront, so not far to walk for the less mobile.
Review 24:The location of the hotel was very good right opposite the pier. The staff were very polite and friendly. Hotel was clean and comfortable, our room was very large with a lovely sea view. Breakfast was very tasty and plenty of choice
Review 25:The mattress on the single bed was only an inch thick when sat on consequently no sleep that night and a bad back. The breakfast was cheap and I have to eat wheat free products, despite informing the hotel, no wheat free cereals were provided. We told the manager of the above who wasn't interested. The man on reception though was nice.
Review 26:too hot stuffy room with hard uncomfortable bed and rubbish shower. creaky floorboards all night and way overpriced at over £90!!
Review 27:friendly staff and nice breakfast and good location
Review 28:The breakfast is very limited/basic.Could dowith a special something like selection or self help with starters .
Review 29:The seaview room is excellent .We enjoy the full frontal view from the 3 bay windows.
Review 30:As we were not with a coach tour we had to wait each morning to be seated at tables, those with tours had same table throughout stay. Quality of breakfast was just acceptable.
Review 31:location of hotel and car parking facility
Review 32:The only fault with the hotel, is that you have to take you luggage up around 10 steps inside the hotel, but if you ask, the staff are there too help.
Review 33:The staff are always there to help & advise you, nothing too much trouble
Review 34:In need of modernisation. Little things like the bedroom window was held open with a bar of soap. Need for parking.
Review 35:The help from staff. Manager found me a parking space.
Review 36:CREAKING FLOOR IN BEDROOM. VERY BAD!
Review 37:GOOD ROOM WITH VIEW. AND LOCATION AND EASY PARKING. THISWAS OUR FIFTH HOL. WITH LEISURE PLEX AND THE SECOND THIS YEAR. WOULD RECOMMEND
Review 38:We found noting we did not like.
Review 39:We have not visited the Hotel Since the 100th aniversery of the opening of the hotel and many Masonic Ladies night before. The hotel has maintained its wonderful image, external appearance and internally still as we remember it wonderful.
Review 40:Breakfast was cold one morning and we had to wait for a good while to get some toast on two mornings
Review 41:The shower was excellent. The bed is very comfortable and the bar staff were also excellent .
Review 42:not much to grumble about here.....wi-fi only available in bar and reception area....not in guests rooms which is a great shame.
Review 43:clean, comfortable rooms..good breakfast...in a large but unhurried dining room.....served by very pleasant staff.
Review 44:Creaky floorboards, no duvet, dated appearance in room and throughout hotel. Poor breakfast. No wi fi in room
Review 45:Location, good views if you have sea view room? Could not fault staff
Review 46:Breakfast not up to standard the first morning, better 2nd. Bacon ad stood for too long and poached eggs over cooked
Review 47:Frre parking, good room with sea view
Review 48:I do not understand why there have to be so many amateurish or hand written signs stuck on nearly every vertical surface. People are not stupid. Too much, dont do that, dont do this....
Review 49:The service from the staff was excellent especially those handling breakfast and on reception. If you are younger and dont mind mixing with lots of much older guests ( majority 70+) then you will enjoy the stay and the level of service which is good because they know how to look after older guests very well and you get that too. This is the second one of these hotels we have stayed at and we know what we will get. We will stay again.
Review 50:old fashioned decor, rock hard bed, furnishings, like stepping back in time, but was fine for one night. Breakfast is a la carte but comes out so fast and congealed it must all be on hot plates in the kitchen, did not enjoy it all. However, the bar area was lovely, comfy sofas etc.
Review 51:location right opposite the pier, staff, size of the room and bathroom, free onsite parking
Review 52:As a bed and breakfast visitor we are allocated a table in the dinning room, only a time. Breakfast from 8 - 9.Arriving at about 8.30 to find every table taken by those with a given table number, thus there is always a wait, would it not be helpful to give a later time when a table would be free?
Review 53:Unfortunately there was only one lift working a bit of a trek to 4th floor if lift was full
Review 54:The friendly staff and comfortable room with sea view the breakfast was nice too will come again
Review 55:its a shame the breakfast really let our stay down no taste in much of it and so overcooked, also we had a really sqeeky bed.although we did laugh about that
Review 56:Hotel and staff lovely beautiful hotel felt comfortable in all areas and the rooms lovely and big and very warm and cosy
Review 57:Waiting to be seated at breakfast. Different table and waitress all five days . Radiator on full blas in room .
Review 58:Room with sea veiw . Location . Parking .
Review 59:It was quite a bit of a old building the disabled lift you had to keep going to get a member of staff to work it for you, you couldn't get the heating to turn down it was so hot it made you feel sick, it was okay for what we paid.
Review 60:We choice there because they have a car park and my sister lives Eastbourne so it is a way I get to see her.
Review 61:The reception staff could have been a little more friendly.
Review 62:Big comfortable rooms. Friendly service at the bar. Excellent service in the dining room. Good parking facilities. Good reasonably priced hotel.
Review 63:Having to wait such a long time to be shown to a table in the dining room Had to wait for all the coach passengers to be served first resulting in waiting half an hour to be served with breakfast
Review 64:Plenty of parking Good location on seafront close to shops
Review 65:Shower screen didn't meet bath, so flooded the bathroom every time we had a shower Entertainment
Review 66:Nice big room, Comfortable seats in the lounge/bar Free wifi
Review 67:Squeaky floorboards were a nuisance and I would have liked the evening entertainment to be a bit more suitable for all ages including families if you are hoping to attract younger clients to book here.
Review 68:The hotel's handy location for the pier and bandstand where excellent Tribute Shows are held throughout the summer months. All the staff were always so friendly and welcoming.
Review 69:Had to wait a couple of times as the dining room got packed when more coaches came in .
Review 70:Easy access to sea front & town centre . breakfast was good & service great
Review 71:The bed was not of a good quality. Despite arriving for breakfast between the times stated on our registration card there was no allocated table for either days of our stay. The first morning we were asked to wait until one became free (there were empty tables but we were told that they were allocated!). On the second morning we had to share as that was the only table available. It would seem that priority is given to coach parties with scant regard for individual guests.
Review 72:The location was excellent and it was good to have parking on site.
Review 73:Had a sea view room and waking up to a beautiful view on a bright spring morning was magic. Bar staff were very, very helpful and though the dining room was packed for breakfast the staff found us a table, took our order and we were served in no time. Will stay there again when next in Eastbourne.
Review 74:There was no entertainment on the evening I stayed there (Saturday). The night receptionist seemed rather miserable on my return to the hotel after going out.
Review 75:I had a double room to myself. The bathroom was really spacious. The waiting staff at breakfast were very polite and efficient.
Review 76:1. There were squeaky floorboards (both in our room and upstairs) 2. One of us was disappointed in the breakfast (hard cold poached eggs, lot of fat on the plate) fresh eggs delivered but again on the well done side. Would prefer to have an element of self service.
Review 77:View from the room
Review 78:Took ages to get a drink because we were unaware that one had to open an account with reception. Having recently retired after 40 years of running top hotels, we have never come across this before!
Review 79:The fun of finding ourselves in a large sea facing room which used to be the home of a couple 50 years ago who stayed as permanent guests with full board at £25 a week. I know because I made out their bill every week!
Review 80:no hot water, reception told us to run hot water for 20 minutes in the morning. Noise from the cabaret can be heard on the second floor Coaches park at the rear of the hotel and leave their diesel engines running for ages
Review 81:a large clean room car park Location food
Review 82:there was nothing to dislike
Review 83:room very good clean and comfortable, only had breakfast but this was first class.Nicely situated and good car parking, will go again possibly a longer break .will definitely recommend to friends
Review 84:Had to run hot water taps for at least 5 - 10 minutes to get any hot water but was really hot once it came through. Breakfast is very ordinary and few choices but OK although toast on first morning was very well done and on second morning barely cooked. Decoration in all areas of hotel rather tired.
Review 85:Hotel in good position with on site free car parking. Hotel staff very polite. Had room with sea view and was on top floor so was great. Worth paying extra to get sea view. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 86:My 58 year old friend had never stayed in a hotel before, so I took her to the Queens for a night & to do some xmas shopping in Eastbourne. It couldn't have been better It was party night, so we partyed until early hours. Breakfast was also good, the staff were really helpful. will be back
Review 87:one man singer/disco would have prefered live music for dancing
Review 88:Friendly dining room staff & efficient Good Food, excellent breakfast Good check out time Parking
Review 89:Booked in for a last minute work trip.I think I was the only guest staying there under 70 & not on a coach trip. It didn't try the bar as the bingo and turn forced me to venture out and find solace elsewhere. Not too impressed by the smokers who seemed to hang around the entrance, I would suggest they are herded over to a smoking shelter
Review 90:The hotel appeared to be clean, well maintained and value for money, with great views of the coast. That said the staff were friendly and welcoming and got my own table and seen to quickly at breakfast.
Review 91:I wound have liked to stay for more than one night.
Review 92:I liked being on the sea front with good parking for motor bikes. There was plenty of choice for eating out & the pub round the corner had a music evening. The breakfast was very good.
Review 93:The size of the single room The noise from the kitchen extrect fan The scolding hot bath water The very rude coach driver in you car park
Review 94:The look of the old building. The staircase The revolving door The breakfast The sea veiw from the front lounge
Review 95:Breakfast,even though plentiful we thought the quality of cooked breakfast items wasnt the best, cheap sausage etc that let the breakfast down.We would rather pay an extra pound or two and have better quality items.
Review 96:Loved the building itself, vert grand.Staff were friendly and hotel was very clean and comfortable.
Review 97:The reception staff could perhaps smile a bit more and make it look like they actually enjoy working there. No welcome to the hotel, no smile. They could learn a few tips from the bar staff who were so very polite, happy and friendly.
Review 98:Stayed in double twin sea view room, on the corner of the hotel, it was wonderful, overlooking the pier and the lights stretching up the road at night. There was evening entertainment which my mum enjoyed (it was her 80th birthday). The food in the restaurant was delicious and served quickly and efficiently.
Review 99:Not so much didn't like - just observed. The room had a "tired look" to it (for instance part of the wallpaper was beginning to peel in the passageway in the room).
Review 100:The sea view was excellent as was the servicing of the room.
Review 101:the weather... but it's something we can't change in almost winter time, don't we?
Review 102:Everything! The hotel itself is a masterpiece of the Victorian time, very well preserved and conditioned to the 21st century. We couldn't imagine where we were going, and our surprise was immense once we saw the Hotel in front of the beach, just few minutes away from the town centre. Very clean, big room, great facilities, fantastic breakfast,... We will definitely come back!
Review 103:breakfast was awful!!!!!!! staff should carry note pad and pen so they can remember what you ordered, twice it was wrong. would be nice if beds had duvets and not just a sheet and thin throw...was quite chilly in the small hours given it is october. And the hotel recepionist really needs to brush up on her PR skills....found her very abrupt and quite unhelpful on two occasions, and on the last morning of my stay i was inquiring about a return trip but felt i was not getting any where fast as she decided to answer the phone in the middle of the conversation, which is very rude, so i gave up and left.
Review 104:Great location lovely room with sea view
Review 105:The squeaky floor boards we only staid one night so that was ok
Review 106:The hotel his right on the promenade and close to the town shops our room had a sea view with plenty of room.
Review 107:The Wine, or at least the cheaper reds. The first two I tried were almost undrinkable. The third was not too bad but I wasn't tempted by a second glass - which is very unlike me. Think it's cheap cash & carry, rather than chosen by someone who knows.
Review 108:Friendly staff, wonderful location, comfortable lounges and bar, entertainment every night, comfortable beds (my sleep doesn't count, I NEVER sleep well). Oh and the fact there was a car park. Would certainly go back again.
Review 109:Minor gripe the furniture in the bedroom could be of a better standard but was ok for us.
Review 110:The location could not be better, opposite the pier. Ample free parking always a bonus. Fantastic room with double aspect windows (508)..great sea and pier views. Room and bathroom were huge. Fantastic breakfast. We will rebook in the summer.
Review 111:Being woken up by cleaning staff banging on door at 8.30am!!!!! Breakfast being set for between 8 - 9am, staff not understanding what you say. Not a happy customer.
Review 112:Room was nice and so was hotel location
Review 113:Waiting staff at breakfast suggested we needed to sit at 3 different tables dotted round the dining room. When we saw a table for 6 with 1 used place the waitress reluctantly laid a 6th place. It was sorted out but we had to wait to be seated.
Review 114:Very good value for money. Reception allowed us to book in early to enable us to change for a wedding. Parking free for guests.
Review 115:We booked very early and had only one wish: to have a room on the 1th or 2nd floor. The hotel didnt listen and arranged a hotel room on the top (!!) floor. As far away from our wish as possible! Not very good service!
Review 116:Hotel really needs to be renovated. Room was clean but clearly run down, smelled really funky. Restaurant was very full and loud, service was not good and food was average to poorquality. Wifi only available in the lobby area and very unreliable.
Review 117:Hotel location is great, staff is friendly.
Review 118:being an old hotel the soundproofing was poor. guests in rooms above seemed very loud.
Review 119:spaciousness staff were very helpful. dining rooms were spacious food good
Review 120:Room 405 had the creakiest, noisy floors we have ever walked on - hope it wasn't too noisy for those in the room below! One good waiter, one not so good waitress. Spacious bathroom had room for a bath - would be nice.
Review 121:Great view over the sea and pier, very spacious bedroom and bathroom, good breakfast food, free parking. Excellent central location for shops and restaurants. Interesting historic building
Review 122:not alot actually.
Review 123:The room was really great, the beds nice and firm, clean and tidy. The staff friendly and helpful and even walking around the hotel, they said good morning or afternoon and was I enjoying my stay, and I did. We had a special request and it was accomodated, I have already told people to stay there.
Review 124:Squeaky floors but to be expected in an old building. Worried we would keep those below us awake
Review 125:Location with good views from the sea facing rooms and wide sweeping staircase Beautiful Victorian building with large rooms Good shower Friendly and efficient staff Tasty packed lunches Car park
Review 126:having to leave and go home !!!!!!!!
Review 127:the standard of hygiene in the breakfast room in setting up the tables is of the highest standard that I have ever seen, if it is that good this side of the kitchen doors then it must also be so in the kitchen its self a big well done to all the hard working staff who were most helpful and polite to all of us senior citizens. We had a lovely room on the top floor over looking the burnt out pier and a big bathroom
Review 128:* Nothing really. I suppose the only minor thing I could pick up on is the fact that blankets are still used on the beds here. I would have preferred a duvet but it was no real problem.
Review 129:* The friendly welcome from the staff. * The excellent breakfasts and evening meals, always served fresh and hot in an impressive restaurant. * The excellent service from the waiting staff at meal times which was efficient but not rushed. * The bar lounge which was a very relaxing place to sit. * The cleanliness of my bedroom and the hotel in general. * The location of the hotel, right on the sea front.
Review 130:Quality of food at breakfast has deteriorated since our stay last year. Hotel requires air conditioning in bedrooms, dining rooms and lounge.
Review 131:Hotel room was a great size with fantastic views. free parking. Room kept very clean. Staff respectful.
Review 132:Did not stay long enough! no air conditioning.
Review 133:Staff were pleasant and helpful, room with sea view and pier. Large and spacious room with a good size ensuite good information folder. Nice relaxing bar / lounge areas. good location and short walk to shops.
Review 134:being a disabled person , a easy chair would have helped in the room, rather than an office chair.i did asked for one but nothing happened. designated tables numbers for private guests at breakfast. most guests are coach people, and take up all the tables. didn`t get breakfast the first morning due to no tables.
Review 135:nice large spacious rooms. very clean.
Review 136:would have preferred bath rather than shower.
Review 137:Excellent location, superb view of sea and pier. It's good to find a hotel that has proper single rooms at the front, elsewhere you have to pay for a double room to get a sea view.
Review 138:Practically everyone staying was on a coach holiday - three coaches at any time. We had bed and breakfast and intended to eat dinner in the hotel. The first night the food was almost inedible and more went back than was eaten (by most guests). The car park has been made into a public pay & display area so if we went out we were not sure there would be a space left for us. The lower part of the car park was blocked off and was used by coaches before their day trips. This used to be a lovely hotel - what a pity it had to change, no doubt in order to keep going,
Review 139:Only the location of which we were aware
Review 140:Hotel exists largely on trade from coach parties. We only ate breakfast but very much prepared to a budget e.g. my cranberry juice was diluted, the ingredients of the cooked breakfast, although ample, were not of the best quality (e.g. economy sausage, hash brown, bacon). Having said that, the hotel does offer a choice of breakfasts. The bedroom had everything we needed but carpets, wallpaper, bedding was mismatched which spoiled what could be a nice room. Maintenance on the cheap was evident - sash windows past their best, most electrical sockets/light fittings were crooked, a couple of cracked bathroom tiles, no effort made to disguise electrical leads. My advice is to pay the extra for a sea view, some bedrooms look out over the backyards of neighbouring hotels.
Review 141:Grand imposing building alluding to a previous life as a destination luxury hotel. Prime seafront location near pier, shops and restaurants. Free car parking. Helpful and polite staff. Free entertainment (albeit catering for a mature audience) most nights. High ceilings and ornate decorations in public areas (restaurant, lounges etc) create a sense of occasion. Very clean throughout.
Review 142:The smell of the hotel - horrible. Housekeeping preparation - putting clean bed sheets on dirty corridor floor (while going to breakfast we saw full corridors with clean bedsheets on the floor near each door). Staff smoking just next to the entrance - couldn't believe my eyes. Customer service does not even exist, I felt like guest doesn't mean anything. Breakfast just one hour and a half! Breakfast manager does not know how to deal with guests for sure. I would really not recommend this hotel and I would not say that I had a pleasant time there. I am upset that I spent so much money for this hotel.
Review 143:Location is really great - in the city centre. Gentleman who was serving breakfast for us was really polite and nice.
