Reviews for West Rocks Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is just completing the renovations so some areas are still shabby, mostly corridors. The weather was horrendous when we was there and the old sash windows were rather draftee. Having said that the positives far out way any negatives and we will definitely go back !!

Review 2:Lovely Victorian hotel right on the sea front. The food was amazing. We had one of the nicest evening meals we have had in a long time. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially the manager who couldn't do enough. Our room was large and facing the sea. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Review 3:Lovely 1950's features like the beautiful shell lights and classic furniture. Exceptionally clean and the hotel has such a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Review 4:All was fine

Review 5:The location, the view, calmness and very relaxing. We didn't have a chance to try the food at the restaurant because we want to see other attractions in the irea but i must said that breakfast at west rock hotel was fantastic

Review 6:We stayed in room 30, which was supposed to be deluxe, but it was tatty. Broken furniture, water damaged wall, lamps but not near any sockets to plug them into.

Review 7:Excellent location, good breakfast

Review 8:The room was freezing!...We really were cold the first night, and were surprised the management were not aware that the radiators were not powerful enough to heat the rooms sufficiently. We were supplued with heaters for the rest of the stay and the room was warm enough thereafter.

Review 9:The staff were amazing!

Review 10:shower room cold and plumbing needed attention windows rattled in the wind

Review 11:it was possible to eat restaurant food in the lounge with the dog friendly helpful staff

Review 12:It's a shame that the hotel next door, is causing the West Rocks hotel so many problems xx we did have a droning noise at night, which was due to the builders next door leaving their dehumidifiers on when they left?! Luckily the manager delt with the issue effectively and quickly allowing us a very good nights sleep :D xx

Review 13:The staff at the West Rocks hotel were bubbly, warm, inviting and very helpful xx and the food was A* really nice! The best I'd had of anywhere I've ever stayed! xx The room was clean, the beds we're really comfy too, had a really good nights sleep xx I hope to go back very soon!! :D

Review 14:I booked this hotel on behalf of my grandparents who were down for Christmas. This hotel was perfect for them. The room itself was lovely and clean and they really enjoyed the breakfast, but most importantly they couldn't talk highly enough of the friendly staff. The manager in particular was so friendly and took the time to have a good chat with my grandparents about our family etc which they just loved. I won't need to look around for hotels next time they are down as we will 100% be booking at the West Rocks Hotel again.

Review 15:Great location - stunning sea view - recently refurbished room with huge bay window - very comfortable bed Friendly helpful staff, Ian & Emily especially

Review 16:warm comfortable room however shower very small dont drop the soap! some walls were damp looking but i dont think it was damp. Bar drinks abit pricey. breakfast was good but not offered more tea or coffee. Had to ring down for hairdryer which they did bring up to us.

Review 17:The shower tray was a bit grotty. Some of the decor was outdated but there were notices explaining that this is being updated.

Review 18:Comfortable bed. Good sized room. Lounge and bar. Good welcome from the staff. Nice breakfast.

Review 19:Shower/bathroom still requires towel hooks and a place to hold shower gel/shampoo etc.

Review 20:Brilliant hotel within easy walking to the Winter Gardens. Very friendly, helpful and personable staff

Review 21:It was extremely cold in our room (very top room) but when we told the staff this they gave us a heater which solved the problem.

Review 22:Our room was upgraded! Very clean AMAZINGLY comfortable beds!

Review 23:Tiny bathroom and lack of sockets in the room. There was a disco near by that finished at 1 both myself and my quite heavy sleepers so it didn't bother us but you may want to ask for a quiet room.

Review 24:The location is great, comfy bed, the staff were very nice and attentive. The breakfast was also very good.

Review 25:Breakfast was included in the price which is a plus but it wasn't top notch but not too bad either.

Review 26:Very clean, cute hotel, great value for money and in a good location.

Review 27:We had ground floor room which had been refurbished. The bathroom was ridiculously small. It was actually a converted cupboard .If you Sat on the toilet your feet were in the shower!!Shame as the bedroom itself was nice.Really not practical at all .

Review 28:Total was on seafront ,staff friendly and helpful

Review 29:The staff were very friendly and eager to make our stay a good one. They looked up timetables and theatre times and gave us maps. The room had a wonderful view of an angry sea.

Review 30:See above

Review 31:It was very nice the staff were excellent the bed was fantastic but the sink was not in the bathroom and the shower was poor and very old but would definitely stay again we were there only 1night so you could get away with no shower

Review 32:Window kept rattling with the wind Whitchurch was exceptional. The lack of bar food crisps nuts etc.

Review 33:Very friendly and very helpfull. Staff. Well managed. Food is great and very clean

Review 34:We were allocated Room 1 on the ground floor behind reception area. The night we stayed was windy and the main bedroom window is not secure therefore moved and rattled all night. Security of bedroom lock is very poor and another guest after midnight tried to enter our room - and we actually thought if he pushed the door hard enough he would gain entry.

Review 35:Room was clean, staff pleasant and the cooked breakfast was amazing.

Review 36:Upon arrival to the hotel we were greeted by a pleasant gentleman who was incredibly helpful. The whole check in process was very straight forward and the room itself was great value for money and exactly what we were after for our overnight stay. All the staff there were very welcoming and friendly and made for a very pleasant stay.

Review 37:No bad experience

Review 38:Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff. Although checkout was 11am I was permitted to stay in my room until 12.30 whilst waiting for my husband to finish at the conference he was attending.

Review 39:The redecoration, the welcome, the facilities and the food were all of a very high standard. The hotel was looking really great after the re-fit and the staff could not do more to make the stay enjoyable.

Review 40:Apart from the problem swiftly resolved, to their credit. The WiFi wasn't great, NOT a deal breaker as its not generally available in the rooms we were just lucky.

Review 41:Staff were always helpful and sorted out little odour problem. Home made yogurts and breakfast in general very good. Our room had a good view (no doubt they don't all gave that. Very convenient for all we needed.

Review 42:The shower was useless (made three complaints which were not rectified), the TV was unavailable, the breakfast was poor because of inferior quality food purchased, the dinner was one good meal (the fish dish) one poor meal (the lamb dish) which was overcooked and dry..

Review 43:The staff were excellent, the service was good, the bedroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. The wine was recommended and good. View was excellent.

Review 44:The location, the members of staff who ever we meet were very friendly and polite and could not have been more helpful. The room was well presented, clean and comfortably.

Review 45:Unfortunately the first room we were shown had twin beds but Emily quickly solved that problem. It was just a shame that the room hadn't yet been renovated. This, however, did not have a huge impact on our stay :-) I would have liked a little more variety for the cooked breakfast.

Review 46:The staff were wonderful! The bed was very comfortable and the view from the bedroom glorious :-) We will definitely be back!

Review 47:Room was a little dated but the hotel is in the process of being refurbished so I expect that will be remedied.

Review 48:Staff were great, really friendly and helpful. Dinner was fabulous and breakfast perfect. The public areas are very well presented.

Review 49:Hotel location is perfect, it's just right opposite to pier, 10 mins walk away. Our room (no.29) is double deluxe room and we have a bay window and seaview is perfect. We had dinner at hotel's restaurant, it was £15 for 2 course and delicious. You don't need to go out for dinner, probably you can't find better place, it was just perfect meal. Breakfast is a buffet and you can eat two three times English breakfast, amazing :) Also they let us stay one more hour than the normal check out time, manager was so kind gentleman. My fiance had a birthday and we enjoyed our time. Thank you.

Review 50:If you want a view of the sea within easy walking distance of the town centre, then this is your hotel. The friendly and helpful staff add to the overall comfort and enjoyment of your stay.

Review 51:A small problem was the lack of shelving in the bathroom, the only space to put your toiletries is on the basin, with two peoples soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and all the rest of the stuff that a lady in her 50's and another in her 80's needs it's quite full, a little shelf would have been useful. Another small problem was the lift, it's a lovely old lift but the doors were far too heavy for my Mum, she would never have managed on her own.

Review 52:The staff at this hotel are all wonderful, we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was really good, help yourself to full English, fruit, toast, tea, coffee, apple and orange juice, cereals and the staff were quick to clean the tables. We had a side sea view room, beds very comfortable, tea and coffee in the room. Hairdryer available from reception. Nice shower with plenty of hot water. The reception wasn't 'manned' all the time but there was a number to call and somebody would appear in a trice. Make sure you use The Chanel Restaurant it's available to use even if you don't stay at the hotel, the food was delicious and at a fair price. Parking was easy, ask at reception for a permit, they cost just £1 a day. Also the temperature in the hotel was perfect all the time.

Review 53:The location being right on the beach and in easy walking distance to the theatres and town centre. The staff are enthusiastic and friendly. The breakfast buffet is delicious and fun.

Review 54:Only thing wrong, cold plate for breakfast, not good

Review 55:Very good location, room clean with good view of the sea, easy walk into town for shops etc, breakfast good.

Review 56:Room was a little small.

Review 57:Staff were all pleasant and helpful, Manager very polite and was very understanding when we had to cut our visit short by a night which was a shame!

Review 58:The big mugs for breakfast. No disabled access to hotel.

Review 59:Lovely comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Real old fashion building but homely too. Lovely breakfast.

Review 60:Wish u could choose how u wanted eggs .. Plus crusty fresh bread n pasteries would of been nice n cheese n ham be nice to have a good selection breakfast very standard otherwise

Review 61:Nice n cosy

Review 62:The room had a lot of damp patches in which the management to be fair addressed us what the problem was. Bedding was to soft for my liking but maybe not others. The shower was much cop just a mere dribble I have stayed in the past and the experience was a lot better.

Review 63:The room had a see view

Review 64:Didn't appreciate that the young woman who checked us in looked annoyed and flustered as she was clearly helping out with serving tables welcomed us by shouting from the restaurant "your check in is at 2!!!!"

Review 65:Excellent location a beautiful view and large clean and comfortable bedroom

Review 66:The staff were brilliant, very helpful with instructions on where to go, bringing in luggage and having plenty of time. The breakfast was such good value, one of the best Ive had

Review 67:No bad experience but no hair dryer in room. Would have liked breakfast served in dining room with view of sea not in the basement.

Review 68:Able to accommodate our dog. Good service from Reception. Excellent sea view

Review 69:Renovations made our stay a little uncomfortable. Unpleasant odours at times. The wet room did not drain properly, unfortunately

Review 70:Location was perfect. Staff were friendly and cooperative.

Review 71:We had a deluxe double room (number 17) and it was perfect. The view was amazing and the bed was lovely and comfortable. Staff were helpful and efficient. Room and hotel very clean. Near to all local amenities. Breakfast was fantastic and perfectly cooked.

Review 72:Just gutted the booking didn't go to plan due to hotel side

Review 73:Booked a seaview room for a one year anniversary get away with booking.com and arrived at the hotel and found out that it wasn't booked in with the hotel, got downgraded to a back room over looking the carpark instead. Gutted the staff where good about it but still, my partner and I both live in London and never get to see the sea, so the whole point was coming to Eastbourne to be next to the sea.

Review 74:Room is very poor We had to change theroom from double room(very small) with see view as heater was not working but the familyroom was Much better

Review 75:Staff are very good Location is very good

Review 76:Receptionist smoking on arrival. Room not as advertised or booked. Tiny bathroom with small shower and erratic water pressure, no bath, no loo roll holder, nowhere to hang towel. Not a room to relax in. A disappointment.

Review 77:Breakfast and location were good. Room was clean and quiet but very small.

Review 78:"It smells like at grendparents house" my daughter said. Some air freshers could help downstairs.

Review 79:Welcome at reception with smile and full package of information. Nice, clean and big family room. Breakfast quite good with excellent service.

Review 80:The staff at this hotel were so accommodating and helpful. When we needed a phone charger they kindly lent us one. There was a kids firework display on that evening and as we were leaving to go to a family we were offered a seat and table on the terrace that had been reserved but nobody had turned up. These were two simple things that were kind and thoughtful and go a long long way! We stayed with our two year old and all the staff were very attentive to him too which we also noted

Review 81:The room was awful bathroom was soo small the door hit the toilet, the shower had cracks in the tray, no toilet roll holder, nowhere to hang towel. The 3rd bed was in separate room & smelt musty room was for 3 people only 2 chairs?? Breakfast was a shambles the fried eggs were so hard you could bounce them on the floor and hash browns were chewy and all cooked food was barely warm!!

Review 82:Not really a sea view as was sold, had to lean out of window.!. part of the building still under repair but they explained that so no real problem but another couples room didn't seem to have reached that stage yet.. especially their bathroom.. so they were not so impressed! So be sure to check which room you are getting!

Review 83:Location, friendly welcome, good room, (small bathroom..) good breakfast.

Review 84:Hotel was very good considering the owners took it over last year and it then had a very bad press. They have had to carry out major repairs to the property when they took it over and the improvements are continuing. Very enjoyable stay and I would recommend it.

Review 85:Had to ask for our tea with breakfast. My mug was chipped and cracked, only fit for the bin. Breakfast was certainly not yummy as advertised, had been sat under the hot lights for too long.

Review 86:The view and comfort of the bed.

Review 87:Very old premises, not suitable for children with pushchair or disable access. Old fashioned room with single glazed window, no bath as promised, The room was clean reasonably but there was still some spider nets around the lighting. We feel the hotel is running by very limited staffs as same person were working on front and kitchen, hence did not get response on phone.

Review 88:Nice location, friendly staff, ample break fast.

Review 89:Parking on a weekend evening was impossibe. We circled the area for a half an hour and ended up parking at least 1/3 of a mile away at the edge of town. When we got to the hotel the clerk was clueless and kept saying there was parking in front or nearby. No help.

Review 90:The location is excellent. The staff were so eager to please which is so refreshing. The twin side sea view room was large with two big twin beds which were extremely comfortable. dinner in the hotel was very good value for money and the wine reasonable priced. We look forward to going again.

Review 91:Ensuite tiny- I'm six months pregnant and struggled with the size of the shower! Ensuite also very tired and not that clean- needs improvement

Review 92:Downstairs areas nicely re-done. Bedroom quite spacious Staff friendly and polite Good choice at breakfast

Review 93:Hotel fairly tired and in need of a thorough restoration. We were asked to take breakfast at 09.00 to avoid the coach parties but the food on offer had probably been kept warm for over an hour. In most hotels the buffet is normally routinely changed so that it is fresh.

Review 94:Nice sea view

Review 95:Very small room (you can't swing your cat ;-) Tiny double bed (approx. 1,35 cm x 1,85 cm) WiFi only works in the lobby, not in your room 89 GBP per night (inc.breakfast) for such a room / bed doesn't feel good value for money.

Review 96:Friendly Staff Everything clean and working properly Good breakfast buffet Nice to get a voucher for public parking for 1 night for 1 GBP (however one really struggles to find a free parking slot)

Review 97:In our suite B, room 37, The bathroom was TINY. A bigger person would have been uncomfortable. The shower flow was light too. And there was only one towel hook behind the door, nowhere to hang hand towel or put toiletries. The balcony could have been made useable. The room was quite expensive for what was in there. No wifi in the rooms.

Review 98:Great location, across the road from the sea and we had a sea view. Breakfast seemed plentiful and what you expect for an english breakfast was all there. Very dog accepting, including a doggy coffee morning once a week. Bed mattress was OK, the room was quiet and didnt hear any noise from the nearby streets. Modern decorated rooms.

Review 99:Timing of our holiday was wrong as coach party seemed to take over everything

Review 100:Lovely hotel with great staff, loved our room which was very comfortable, restaurant was good overall great place to stay

Review 101:Too many eggs cooked at once, so a bit firm.

Review 102:The position on the front, breakfast was fine, tea & coffee good. Food, especially the fish, in restaurant was very good. Everything we expected from this level of hotel.

Review 103:Only problem our room was at back of hotel on the night we stayed a group of young lads were drinking and talking quite loud into early hours, I must say the it was not the hotels fought because it came from property opposite but this did spoil our stay.

Review 104:New beds very clean linen. Nice room.

Review 105:Clothes storage was limited. There was a huge wardrobe but very few hangers. I asked for more, but only a couple were found which was insufficient for our needs. The heated towel rail didn't work and despite asking a couple of times it was not repaired and no explanation given. Consequently, we regretfully had to use all the chairs in the room to hang wet towels and clothes that couldn't go in the wardrobe. The Breakfast buffet was not kept adequately stocked up, for each of the first three mornings we had to ask for bread/yoghurt/eggs/fruit to be replenished. After that we decided we just had to get up very early, which was not really desirable.

Review 106:The room was lovely, a high ceiling, good views and the bed very comfortable.

Review 107:The staff let this place down. The night porter shut the bar early (around 9:30pm) because he wanted to make a personal phone call. Breakfast staff spilled coffee all over the table. Receptionist made us pay for the room in advance. Generally the staff were unhelpful and verging on rude.

Review 108:The hotel was clean. The room was modern, large and comfortable. Views were lovely.

Review 109:Put in ground floor room, where disabled shower/wet room had no barrier for water so it filled the whole bathroom. Staff - Please note special needs does not always mean physical disability. Budget mattress not very comfortable, needs upgrading.

Review 110:Warm and friendly staff, helpful and pleasant Breakfast was abundant and lots of choice Wonderful position on sea front.

Review 111:Had to pay £20 extra for the disabled room as it had a 'sea view'.

Review 112:Staff were absolutely lovely. When my dad was unwell in the morning they allowed me to take breakfast up to him and my mum and were so helpful and accommodating.

Review 113:Was not told that I needed to book a table in the restaurant so it was fully booked for dinner and we had to eat outside which was disappointing.

Review 114:Easy parking, comfortable room, good breakfast, nice view

Review 115:Bathroom wasn't very clean, toilet dirty, and the toilet brush was disgusting!!

Review 116:Staff very friendly, excellent location, breakfast was really good, lovely view from the room of the sea. Would definitely stay there again

Review 117:Nothing

Review 118:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great choice for breakfast. Overall very happy with our stay at west rocks and even though going through refurbishment it didn't really notice

Review 119:The hotel need urgent cleaning, our shower had many cracks in the tiles shampoo stains from previous users.. Corridors are dark carpets old and dirty, halls ways spelt of bad grease like from frying

Review 120:The hotel is urgent need of refurbishment .. Breakfast area was dirty table we sat on was a tressel/ painting table that was wobbly.. Had to as 3 times for tea and coffee..

Review 121:The only thing I would say is that the bathroom was a little dated and needed an update but I am being very picky!! the location was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was first class. Beautifully comfy bed xx

Review 122:I would like a bin in the bedroom and a clock on the wall. We missed wifi in the bedrooms but I'm told that'll be sorted for next year.

Review 123:The view of the sea from our bedroom was lovely. The manager Ian has such a brilliant attitude to delivering great customer service and clearly enjoys his job. Breakfast in particular was delicious, fresh and great value; cooked breakfast buffet even had runny eggs! ie they don't just put the eggs out at once so no concealing!

Review 124:Didn't like we had no access to WiFi in rooms

Review 125:We loved our room we booked a room with a sea view and that's exactly what we got weather looked out the bathroom window or front

Review 126:The free WiFi in tea room areas was very weak and pretty unusable, free WiFi in all areas of hotel would be great.

Review 127:Amazing view from our sea front view room, and a comfortablely large room. Manager of hotel was very friendly and helpful.

Review 128:NOTHING TO DISLIKE,MAYBE WOULD HAVE PREFFERED TO ORDER AND BE SERVED BREAKFAST INSTEAD OF THE BUFFET STYLE BUT NO BIG DEAL.

Review 129:BOTH OUR TWO ROOMS BOOKED WERE COMFTABLE,CLEAN EXCELLENT BEDDING AND SOFT TOWELS PERFECT LOCATION ON SEAFRONT.STAFF ALL REALLY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.

Review 130:No WiFi in the room as only available in the lower ground floor, hotel needs repeaters placed around on each floor so guests have access to internet at all times, other hotels do it so time the West Rocks hotel did it too! Some of the rooms need renovation as the hotel is in the middle of this and there were signs up iin the halls that redecoration was part of an ongoing process!

Review 131:Very good bed with what was an excellent quality mattress! Clean sheets and pillowcases and also clean towels were all laid out in a very decorative fashion on the bed which was a nice touch!
