Reviews for St Elizabeth's House

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:I have done a very positive Tripadvisor review but staff, food and bed all top drawer. Both breakfast and evening meals were superb whilst our beautiful bedroom enjoyed a lovely outlook. Good parking and broadband. As ever the staff were central to making this stay so complete.

Review 3:Our room was located at the front of the building, above the traid entrance, so I was worken up a bit earlier than I'd of liked but I'm just been picky, the room it's self is very good,

Review 4:The location was ideal for us just out side of Plymouth, very welcoming well trained staff, the hotel was warm and clean and very well maintained,

Review 5:There were many smaller details that were overlooked and felt uncared for. i.e. the superior room - missing fixing on the bathroom wall that had yet to be plastered, slightly loose light fitting by mirror, broken leg on side table, welcome pack was unreadable as the writing had stuck to pages, chipped cup at breakfast and we were not the only couple asking 2-3 times for toast with breakfast - especially as my wife ordered scrambled egg on toast with salmon and the toast came separately.

Review 6:The restaurant was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and professional. (apart from breakfast)

Review 7:Breakfast was due to start at 07:00, nothing was ready on time and I was unable to order a cooked breakfast as I needed to leave work for 07:30. breakfast times are not really suitable for those travelling on business.

Review 8:Location, setup and welcome were brilliant from start to finish.

Review 9:Only one staff member (night)was less than helpful on ordering a taxi, but thankfully a young dark haired lad sorted everything out.

Review 10:All excellent, food, room, bathroom & the best bed & pillows, it felt like sleeping o a cloud.

Review 11:Unfortunately morning disturbed by building works. Shower was very weak in pressure and blinds in bathroom were broken so couldn't enjoy the view from the bath

Review 12:Beautiful hotel and gardens, the bar area and restaurant were good.

Review 13:Shame there wasn't a shelf in the bathroom for our toiletries etc. Clearly a lot of money spent on the bathroom - high quality fixings etc - but ended up putting our toiletry bags on the floor as no shelf above or near the sink.

Review 14:Very helpful staff. Very good quality fixtures and fittings. Best bed I've slept in at an hotel - great sleep!

Review 15:Professional receptionist who dealt with us both when we arrived and also when we left the hotel. We had to call the hotel on our way as the main road had been closed so we were about two hours later than our stated planned time to arrive. Very helpful and arranged to move our table time in the restaurant. The meal in the evening was outstanding in both the quality of the food and the variety of choice on the menu. The service was excellent and not intrusive. Breakfast was also to a high standard, order taken by waiter and not food left on buffet style hotplates. The room was outstanding in quality and cleanliness as was the rest of the hotel. We visit the Plymouth area 4 or 5 times a year and will use this hotel again if they have rooms available on the dates that we need to be in that area.

Review 16:I love really good strong coffee and did not find the coffee great, however it in no way spoiled the stay

Review 17:lovely quiet location and such friendly staff

Review 18:We stayed in St Maurice room which is on the ground floor. It's close to the kitchens which are noisy and there was other more general noise - staff etc and footfall from the floor above.

Review 19:Location, scenery, comfort of room and beautiful bathroom.

Review 20:No "ordinary" teabags in room (made do with Earl Grey but this wouldn't be everyones cup of tea!) Water in shower was not very hot. Road gets a bit noisy early in the morning.

Review 21:Room was very clean, spacious and comfy. Food in restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced.

Review 22:One horrible night thanks to a very noisy, inconsiderate wedding party.

Review 23:Two days of peace in great comfort with friendly, helpful staff and excellent meals.

Review 24:Nothing negative.

Review 25:Facilities, service, staff, cleanliness and food were all of a very high standard. The hotel was on the day of my visit immaculate and the service and staff were attentive and extremely efficient

Review 26:Difficult when other reviews talk of excellence, because I was very disapointed. After a long journey to get there I could get a cup of tea but nothing to eat, no cream tea! The lounge was the bar & not very comfortable at all. Bathroom blind broken so would not open, could not open any window to get fresh air. Strange green spot lights in the garden illuminating my room. Ordered mousaka with Greek salad from room service what arrive was mince (no aubergine) with a cheese topping covered with gravy & served with rock hard parsnip, carrot & cauliflower; inedible. The creme brulee was servrd with chocolate ice cream which quickly melted. Breakfast was served in a room with windows that you could not see out of, jazzy music blaring out. Miserable staff had not finnished laying out breakfast. Stained table cloth. Butter, marmalade, sauces came in cheap sachets not what you would expect in an 4 star hotel. such

Review 27:Cleanliness was of a high standard.Receptionist was very nice. Bedroom well equipped & lovely comfy bed.

Review 28:Small thing - finding a suitable power point for the kettle without having to put it on the floor. Noticed in the morning when we opened the curtains that there was one behind the desk, hidden by the curtains!!

Review 29:My 94 year old mother wanted sea-bass, but not with the accompaniments as described, she wanted chips and the very friendly waiter told her there was no problem. We were a table of six and each of us had a lovely meal. We have stayed here many times before and would have stayed more often had there been vacancies

Review 30:Nothing at all....

Review 31:Absolutely Beautiful Hotel, with wonderful Bar, Restaurant and the rooms are just perfect. Very comfortable beds, old school mini-bar etc. very well stocked bar and incredible food. Breakfast was wonderful......

Review 32:Having to leave only after a one night stay, we intend to return for a longer stay.

Review 33:Staff extremely friendly and helpful, comfortable room with excellent facilities.

Review 34:and in our room within minutes. Loved the setting, the bathroom large with a large tub and free standing shower. Breakfast was lovely, and we especially loved the attention we received from the management helping us with the travel plans to south cornwall. We traveled 3 weeks and the Elizabeth House was one of our favorites..

Review 35:Breakfast not up to quality of eve meals. Poor quality sausages. Smoked haddock raw in the middle! No decaf tea. Bathroom needed three new bulbs on arrival which meant we couldn't relax until maintenance had been. Plus only 1 bathrobe, this was sorted quickly by receptionist. Mini bar had some drinks but only 1 beer, in room for 2! Nowhere to place toiletries near the double sink, this would be a great addition!

Review 36:Comfortable bed. Spacious room and bathroom. Good quality fixtures and fittings. Excellent dinner both nights. Friendly staff. Quiet location but still accesible. We would return and the suggestions are in the hope that management take note to improve, this is a lovely place to stay.

Review 37:Our room (Mayflower) could have done with a proper shelf in the bathroom, a coffee table and some drawers. Generally, just more places to put the things you bring with you.

Review 38:Just a great place to chill out. Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the whole experience.

Review 39:We liked everything but perhaps a pool might have been a nice idea for those staying longer.

Review 40:Fantastic rooms Really helpful staff Lovely setting No expense spared with the furnishings Breakfast excellent

Review 41:The house is beautiful; you feel like in a family house; beautiful garden with squirrels approaching the dining room to find some nuts….The entire staff is perfect; very good breakfast with croissants which could be parisian ones! We will come back. Denis and Françoise from France

Review 42:If I had to say something I would like to have seen more floral display in the gardens, but that was probably down to the time of the year. There really was nothing to dislike.

Review 43:Everything! Our party ranged from grandparents to young adults and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. All have said they would love to go back - shame weekends for the next 2 years are booked!!

Review 44:Can't critize, couldn't find fault.

Review 45:We've stayed here many times before , the staff and owners are lovely, food excellent and the rooms are modern, clean everything you need. The beds are so comfortable, can wait to go back

Review 46:I must say what a fantastic hotel, my Husband and I was very impressed with the room. We had lunch at the hotel and it was 5 star. We will be looking to book again.

Review 47:Our bedroom was directly over the kitchin so didn't appreciate being woken by delivery vans at 6am.Slight lack of amenities in the room i.e.mirrors,toiletry space in bathroom

Review 48:The area was ideal for visiting plymouth. The view from the hotel. The food was excellent. Lovely comfortable bed.

Review 49:Wine list good but they know how to charge. We returned to this hotel but were given a smaller room, which was disappointing.

Review 50:Dinner was most enjoyable, good choice of dishes and amuse bouche a nice touch. Breakfast also excellent. Not much by way of facilities but pleasant location away from the much noisier venues of Plymouth. Bar is a genuine zinc, good atmosphere.

Review 51:Breakfast was OK but fruit selection could have been wider and just one sausage in the full English seemed a bit stingy whilst the black pudding was thin and felt undercooked

Review 52:Nice room and lovely en-suite

Review 53:Beautiful surroundings very helpful polite staff our room and bathroom were absolutely lovely couldn't have asked for more. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was out of this world would highly recommend!

Review 54:Having to carry our suitcase up the stairway.

Review 55:Loved the historic hotel from the bedrooms to the bar and dinning room. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly and contributed to us having a very pleasant stay.

Review 56:No air conditioning - was hot and had to sleep with windows open, allowing in some traffic noise. Lovely staff, but only response was "No problem" - even when I was reporting a problem! I found this profoundly irritating :(

Review 57:Warm atmosphere. Very helpful staff. Cosy décor. Excellent restaurant. Sheltered location. Lovely gardens. Ample parking. All in all, a great place :)

Review 115:Great room, wifi excellent and great food.

Review 116:One tiny drawback would be the carpet on the main stairs which needs replacing/cleaning.

Review 117:Gorgeous grounds, convenient parking, lovely room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Helpful and pleasant staff, reasonably priced dinner and drinks, excellent food and fab breakfast.

Review 118:shower water took some time to warm up.

Review 119:A great independent hotel near Plymouth and the key Devon beaches. Nice feel to the hotel with good food. bedrooms are just right with extra bits to ensure a good nights sleep. away from the noise to Plymouth

Review 120:One of the best hotels I have had the pleasure to stay in. My room was very spacious and the bed was amazing. The bathroom was top notch too with a great shower and a roll top bath. The hotel has a popular restaurant and the meal I had there was excellent and good value for money. Will definitely stay there again and look forward to it.

Review 121:Lighting in dining room poor. Shower in our bathroom was rather small, which meant that the taps in it got in the way, & the doors opening outwards dripped water all over the floor on exiting. There was plenty of room for a more comfortable alternative. There was also nowhere to put toothbrushes & toiletries around the hand basin, and very little shelf space elsewhere in the room either. No toilet roll holder. Uncomfortable room.

Review 122:Food...quallity & choice. Location. Beds/bedroom. Staff.

The Fine Print

On weekends, breakfast is served from 8am until 10am.
