Reviews for Clunebeg Lodge
Review 1:Our host Gillian was wonderful. We were warmly welcomed and provided with a superb home cooked meal (even though the restaurant was closed). This lady knows how to make guests feel comfortable and provides space to truly relax. Great room & large communal living area for guests. Lovely location & fantastic advice on local sightseeing options. Sad to leave.
Review 2:Clunebeg Lodge is the perfect little place. Booked very last minute yet welcomed with open arms (literally) and an abundance of information about the loch and town. Lovely owner, lovely rooms and facilities. Very much recommend
Review 3:Staff seemed to be looking forward to the end of the season. Didn't go out of their way to be helpful.
Review 4:Quiet. It was a place to sleep between days of exploring. Easy access to Loch Ness and Glen Affirc.
Review 5:Nothing. All was pretty good.
Review 6:Very friendly atmosphere, very good location. Good size room with clean bathroom. And Wi-fi available in the room :D Got courtesy continental breakfast when leaving. And the box of fresh, farm eggs :D
Review 7:We were lucky enough to stay in a suite of the main house at Clunebeg Lodge. It was lovely, just what my family needed. Kids enjoyed the jacuzzi bath and also going out to speak to the owners dog. Will definitely be booking here again
Review 8:Location - it is central for exploring Loch Ness and handy when one is wanting to eat out The setting of the Lodge is beautiful I wish I was a good walker because the walking trails were very close by
Review 9:We were only staying for one night but would definitely go back for a longer stay. Our hosts were very warm and welcoming and the accommodation was ideal with breakfast and dinner availability (veggie requests well catered for).
Review 10:Bathroom and Kettle would benefit from update, staff sometimes stressed (one person for cooking + check-in/out etc.)
Review 11:Very friendly staff, location remote/quiet but also in walking distance to Drumnadrochit centre, spacious room
Review 12:Wonderful place tucked away in bush land. Delightful welcome from our host Gillian where nothing was a problem. Gillian was very welcoming, helpful and informative. Would welcome the chance to stay at such a comfortable place again!
Review 13:The dirt track to the property was of concern as I had the fear of dropping my large touring motorcycle on the loose surface.
Review 14:Lovely location and nice facilities.
Review 15:Bathroom is a little pokey, but shower was lovely and hot.
Review 16:Lovely host. Breakfast was very nice. Beautiful views all around, and gorgeous walk around the property takes about an hour.
Review 17:The only bad experience was the mattress was too firm for us.kinda used to it by third night.
Review 18:A good location for day trips ,we stayed 3 nights. The highland cattle were in the field next to the lodge,we took good photos of them .
Review 19:The location is very quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy Loch Ness area. It's up a one-lane dirt road, but it's a manageable drive. Our twin room was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was nicely prepared.
Review 20:Our room backed on to the common area - this meant that we could not sleep until the guests in the common room had gone to bed. Not very restful - very noisy!!!
Review 21:There was not much spare space in the room or ensuite but it was adequate for our purposes of an overnight stay.
Review 22:Located up a private unmade access track from the village, so in a quiet and secluded location. Visually the exterior of the lodge building is not the best, but it is located in a great position for quiet relaxation. Our room and ensuite in the annexe were spotlessly clean. The landlady was very friendly. We ate in the village so cannot comment on the food offering during the evening, however, the cooked breakfast was fine.
Review 23:I have no idea where the good reviews come from, we thought we werestaying in a well rated 3/4 star B&B, in fact it is a coupleof portacabins, some of which, hilariously are filled with the framesof 4 poster beds????? The idea that you may get some peace through acardboard wall is ridiculous, the food is ridiculously expensive(though well cooked) the 'two terraces' amount to the oddchair on a small paved area and there is a big long screed in thehotel info about how much you have to pay if you take s picture homewith you. Appalling- if it weren't for the staff we would havechecked out instantly. Don't stay here, stay at Fifflera down growroad - possibly for less ££££.
Review 24:The staff who, in fact, made it, without them it would have beenmiserable.
Review 25:Difficult to find in the late evening - GPS told us a different route, there were signs but in the dark we missed them.
Review 26:Staying in a really old building with heaps of history but in style.
Review 27:Excellent visit, lovely lady couldn't do enough for you, very tasty evening meal, beautiful location, our suite was great with lovely views. Would definitely stay here again
Review 28:One has to pay before staying, which for instance implies to decide wether one is having breakfast beforehand. If for any reason you cannot get to the breakfast, do not expect your money back.
Review 29:The cows, which you can find close to the hotel.
Review 30:The room needs serious upgrading: the bathroom floor appears to have suffered water damage and is squishy & uneven. Corners are cut by not providing shower soaps, and the hand soap is watered down. The chef, although a character, was not a good enough cook to pull off the dinners that were being offered. Breakfast was fine, however. The other helper was a young fellow who did not know how to make a bed.
Review 31:Host and staff were very congenial, very friendly and flexible. My wife had a migraine and could not make breakfast, host was very concerned and provided me with a bacon sandwich to take to the room while I cared for my wife
Review 32:The surrounding of the B&B is very good and close with the nature. And the hostess is so kind. Our children like to play with the funny sheep dog.
Review 33:We stayed in the family room and found it to be pleasant however an extractor fan in the bathroom would have been a bonus
Review 34:The location was excellent with wonderful views
Review 35:Wifi is only available in the main hotel, which is a short walk from the apartment. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.
Review 36:This little place is off the road, but the owners are great. We stayed at the apartment which was great value for the money. Breakfast was not included in our rate.
Review 37:Accommodation dated and entrance to get to our room was not inviting. Tea bags loose in pot and no milk. Could see cob webs.
Review 38:Close to Loch Ness. Comfy beds.
Review 39:Really friendly and warm welcome ! Lovely with the children. They were sad to leave, because of the welcome and the situation, in the earth of the nature.
Review 40:The staff were friendly and very helpful. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was working in the bar the night of our stay. She was extremely nice and even gave me a hug when we left the hotel!
Review 41:The location and thickness of the walls made it hit and miss in the rooms for wifi and TV signal
Review 42:Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely family who own the business. The food was good and plenty to fill you up including take out menu and eve meals with specials at reasonable rates. Excellent walks from the outside the restaurant with breathtaking views and lots of wildlife to see.
Review 43:We would like to have a little bit of sunshine...
Review 44:This is a perfect location for a real schotland stay. No much luxury but authentic schotisch. The people were very nice and helpfull. We loved the place because it was not in the center of the city.
Review 45:Nothing!
Review 46:Very nice. Friendly owners. The food was very good. The beds were very comfy and the spa bath was great. A very nice stay overall and would come back again.
Review 47:The mattresses is too soft.
Review 48:Nice breakfast, nice and warm ly,my family love the scenery view of the surroundings, and even we can use the radiator to dry our clothes, which is important to family with child.
Review 49:The road up to the property wasn't great especially for motorbikes. The breakfast although well cooked was sparse and you had to ask for juice etc
Review 50:Liked pretty much everything except the 2 points on previous section
Review 51:Certainly not worth the 70 pounds we were charged to stay there.
Review 52:This property is located in a very quiet valley which was great...unless you wanted to go somewhere for dinner! The facilities were adequate to our needs but not what I expected for what we paid...a bit expensive for what we received. Breakfast was ok but would have been better if the guy serving us had explained that there were options available!! And this was all before a staff member barged into our room while we were dressing to leave...and didn't apologise!!
Review 53:Everything! We were made so welcome by Gillian and her staff we felt like part of her extended family. We were a group of 12 people and Gillian really went out her way to make sure everyone was happy.
Review 54:Atmosphere, felt very much like a business. Had lounge area in the dining area so you have to eat your meal whilst others watch tv.
Review 55:Friendly service Free wifi Had all amenities
Review 56:We had difficulty finding it and we were in a separate building from our (older) children. Their building didn't have Wifi (which was good for them really!). No liquor licence.
Review 57:The food was very good and the staff very friendly
Review 58:The owner was really nice and allowed us to check in really early which was really helpful to us. The location was really lovely and the breakfast was awesome. Also our room had an amazing bathroom. Loved it ^^ Thanks a lot <3
Review 59:The serviettes used for meals were too thin and very small. There should have been orange juice offered \and also brown bread for breakfast and staff should be more easily identified with a badge or corporate T shirt. Place settings should always have the dessert spoon above the dessert fork.
Review 60:It was conveniently situated near Loch Ness and all the other Glens in that area.
Review 61:Great location just up the hill from most of the other hotels and B&Bs with a great view and friendly staff. There's also a walking trail nearby and a common room. We only stayed 2 nights but I would have preferred to stay at least a week as we felt right at home and there's so much to see and do in the area.
Review 62:the peaceful location and fabulous room, being right on the Great Glen walk was the best. Within minutes of arriving we saw an eagle catch a mouse, then that evening watched wild deer in the forest behind the lodge. My sons loved playing with Jack the border collie too!
Review 63:A bit difficult to find, look for the small alley next tot the petrol station if you are using SatNav.
Review 64:Whilst the SatNav took us to small community nearby, the resident thereat actually led us by car back to the small alley leading to the lodge. The owner Gillian gave us valuable information and map to explore this wonderful area. The room was neat, cosy and food was excellent. For 70 pounds with breakfast is supervalue. You stay away from the noisy environment. Morning walk before breakfast was superb.
Review 65:There was nothing at this lovely lodge which we didn't enjoy!
Review 66:Everything. From the friendliness of the Hostess, to the accommodations, to the food, this is an amazing place to rest and recreate. We had such fun with our hostess, Jillian Daley; and our breakfast, cooked by their singing cook, was amazing. It was also fun to just sit in the Lodge, watch TV together while sitting on their comfy sofas and visit with each other and with the staff of the Lodge. We will definitely be back!!!
Review 67:It was a bit tricky to get to but once you're there its a great place to stay!
Review 68:The staff was great and friendly, very helpful and made you feel right at home! Extremely accommodating. And the food was delicious. The cook was funny, friendly and loved to sing. Also there are highland cows right in the back. Got some really nice pictures after dinner.
Review 69:Came on motorbikes with German friends, very welcoming and fabulous food from the scottish chef. Our German friends said the beef burger was the best they tasted throughout their holiday!
Review 70:It was a lovely homely place, very welcoming. All the staff were very friendly and Gillian as very accommodating. Chefs food was excellent, everyone who was there on both nights were lovely, felt like a little family night in and we would go back.
Review 71:The staff were all friendly and helpful. The meals were good and filling and the whole place had a great atmosphere. Great breakfast with the cook singing while he was cooking
Review 72:Very lovely landlady. Wonderful surroundings. Tasty home made dinner (try the beef ale pie). Ideal to visit Inverness and Loch Ness. Friendly living room.
Review 73:We could not stay any longer.
Review 74:The location was excellent for our holiday. There was a short walk (1hour) around the estate with great views. Silent countryside accommodation in the half way to the village and castle. Safe place with children. Very close to the horse stable where you can book pony trekking tours. Highland cattle was close enough to see easily and photographed. They serve also gluten free food!!! The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 75:The entry smelled of grease, the quality of the bedding was poor, the handbasin was cracked, the lino in the bathroom was old, the shower was ordinary; nothing like the photos of the bathrooms in the gallery. The breakfast was the most average we had; this "lodge" also has cheap accommodation and the owners should concentrate on this market. For those visitors it would be good value
Review 76:The fact we were only staying 1 night!
Review 77:We were made to feel very welcome by Jillian and quickly settled into out room. The estate setting is quite lovely with its own highland cows grazing on site. The hospitality and food was excellent.
Review 78:We asked for some camomile and received it in a coffee pot. We had to pay £3 for coffee tasting tea ! In addition, the walls are so thin that if you are expecting a quiet night, it's definitely not the place to stay.
Review 79:Clunebeg Lodge is really great with beautiful rooms and facilities, but Clunebeg house where the family rooms are located is "under construction". If you are prepared to walk past a septic tank and building works to get to your room and be waken up at 6am due to some strange loud waterpump noises (two days in a row) your stay should be fine. Breakfast is not included in roomrate of the house accommodation, but it is included in lodge accommodation, which we found a bit strange, especially as we booked a room in the Lodge as well. Breakfast however was very nice and supper was also good. Wifi is only available in the Lodge, but not in the House rooms.
Review 80:Location is beautiful. The Lodge part of the accommodation is really great, but should you book into Clunebeg House, that's a different story. The staff however was really friendly, it makes it very difficult to give the bad bits of the review.
Review 81:The shower was the most complicated thing I've ever come across. We really could've used step-by-step instructions rather than calling the manager all the way back up. The towel rack literally fell out of the wall and made a terrible racket when the towel was simply pulled off it. WiFi was only available directly in the restaurant/main building. Our windows were sealed shut for safety purposes so I could see this being a hindrance if it were any warmer than what we encountered.
Review 82:There were very few choices in the area within our budget... this one fit the bill. It was very quiet and we enjoyed the wildlife trails. The host was very friendly.
Review 83:The lounge has 3 seater leather couch that was the second bed but also contained bunk beds. To get to bathroom you have to go through main bedroom and all doors and floors creaked, loudly. No catering facilities what so ever except normal jug/tea/coffee which was placed in main bedroom. Apartment/flat was in the middle of a building site. There was a door to the rest of the rest of the building which I was told was locked but it only locked from the other side so in theory anybody could enter at any time! Better to have an ajoining door that locks from both sides!
Review 84:Outstanding Bathroom, but out of place.
Review 85:First impressions were not favourable, looked very tired and 'budget'. My bathroom had no heating and the shower went hot and cold at 30 second intervals. Never the less for the inconvenience I got a free dinner and the staff were apologetic and supportive hence the reasonable markings
Review 86:Delightful Spanish waiter, very attentive and couldn't be more helpful. Great breakfast and very clean.
Review 87:All just very unprofessional, staff and owner looking scruffy and one member of staff smelling of b.o bedroom dirty, shower either scolding hot or freezing cold, towel rail kept falling off, lights not working, tea tray dirty, carpet stained and had not been hoovered.
Review 88:Not really anything
Review 89:Gillian and her staff were very friendly, keen to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The food was tasty and homey, also enjoyed our conversations about the haggis running wild around the countryside......
Review 90:In general the property is great, although it takes some time to get to it did not disappoint.
Review 91:The host's cheerful disposition is definitely a bonus to our trip. In addition it really helps that the onsite dining provided serves quality food that is not too expensive!
Review 92:Wifi access in the room located at the main house was non-existent--only available in the common area of the lodge.
Review 93:You'll never find a more welcoming hostess and a location closer to Urqhard Castle. Accommodations were most cozy and the breakfast delightful.
Review 94:Entry to the house through a construction site, not very nice smell of the room, enough at our home then:-(
Review 95:Very friendly staff, nice place in the countryside but far from the village.
Review 96:The only minor issue: rooms were a bit cold on arrival (the weekend was very cold), but the heaters worked well and solved the problem quite quickly.
Review 97:Location ~1 km away from the main road, which is an advantage, because the surrounding is really wonderful and quiet. Watch out when driving - you can meet some funny shaggy cows on the road :) A very friendly owner Gillian (I hope I haven't mispronounced the name), warm welcome and farewell. Nice, clean room with tea&coffee facilities and excellent Wi-Fi. Generous breakfast with unlimited tea/coffee/juice/water/toasts/jam and - additionally - a big choice of "main" meals. You won't be hungry for sure.
Review 98:We had the deluxe family room in the main house. It was very spacious and the beds were super comfy. We enjoyed our stay and the hostess was very welcoming however I dont know her name as ahe didnt introduce herself. We had dinner on the Saturday evening and our only complaint would be that the food available was limited. There was no steak or any of the specials available. We had the lasagne which was delicious and there was plenty of it to feed us hungry travellers.
Review 99:There is quite a long distance from the lodge to the main road which can be a nice walk if I had stayed for a longer time. The WiFi also failed to work in the end suite.
Review 100:I liked the lodge that I found quite big. I liked also the large bathroom and to have a comfortable bed after long hours on the road. The scenery was also quite good.
Review 101:The bathroom could have been cleaner.
Review 102:Views are amazing, the lady who runs the lodge is lovely. Wee town just down the road, beautiful scenery, lovely drives.
Review 103:Rooms a bit smelly, stains on carpet, limited dinner options and as limited staff service slow, shower was poor but bath ok. Didn't have licence to serve Alcohol and when I booked I was sure it said breakfast included but had to pay extra
Review 104:Owner was friendly, had a good sleep, comfy bed
Review 105:The hosts were very very friendly and kind. They made our stay very pleasant. The room and bathroom were very new, fresh & clean. The food was excellent. Absolutely recommendable.
Review 106:The location is not good. It's too far away from the town and the bus station. And the signal is poor.
Review 107:The owner is a really nice couple. And the house is comfortable.
Review 108:We only stayed at Clunebeg a Lodge for one night. We arrived quite late and it was no problem at all for the owner - she was lovely and very accommodating. Unfortunately we didn't have time for exploring the beautiful area around the cottage, as we had to move on to our next location - I would have loved to have spent a couple more nights there.
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:Biggest bed I ever saw in B&B in my life, and quite comfortable too. Spacious room. No problems with wifi, hot water or any other amenities. Good food. Beautiful location on the side of the hill.
Review 111:Absolutely nothing :)
Review 112:Staff were incredibly friendly. Told us about things to do in and around the area. Room was lovely and comfy. View was fantastic. They even went out of their way to find us a champagne bucket.
Review 113:room cold needed some heating in bathroom tv reception very poor but don't know if anything can be done due to location
Review 114:Friendly host. nice breakfast
Review 115:I personally would of liked to see a bit more spit and polish in the bathroom but all in all was very clean :)
Review 116:We loved the location of clunebeg lodge, even though locating it was difficult it was worth the adventure! We recieved a lovely welcome, tour and we were also told of local things to do which was very good! We stayed in a lovely family room in the house, which exceeded our expectations. Nice clean place, Great value for money and will definitely be visiting again.
Review 117:The mattress on the bed was quite thin and you could feel the springs which gave a restless sleep. The sink in the bathroom could have been in the corner as you had to squeeze passed it to get to the toilet and it was cracked in several places. Tv was quite small and to far up the wall got a neck ache looking up all the time. We decided to eat our evening meal there had the pie chips and veg the pie was cold and had several bits of grissle in it.
Review 118:The location it was quiet and well away from the main road which gave us a clear sky at night.
Review 119:Calling it a B & B and restaurant is a bit misleading. We thought it would be a separate licenced restaurant but in fact it's just the dining room for guests in the middle of the B & B & lacks atmosphere. Also not being informed until we arrived that we would have to pay with cash caused a bit of a worry.
Review 120:Very good breakfast. Serving breakfast early for the marathon runners was much appreciated. The peaceful, pretty location away from the village was a bonus and if we'd had more time it would have been an ideal place to stay to explore the area further.
Review 121:The lodge is in a rural location ,safe for children to play. Host was very friendly and helpful. My son left his teddy and will forward it on. Accomidation suitable for families two bed areas, good value for money.
Review 122:Was disappointed that staff didn't contact us to let us know credit system was down, we were only informed on arrival and end up having to drive back to Inverness to get cash to pay the:(
Review 123:Good location to get picked up for lochness marathon:)
